Yeah, "He started it" about a VP? He's on the VERY short list. I'd write him up and get ready to ship him out! Losing the accounting manager is always such a hassle. Do you have anyone that you can promote up to that position, or is it a "replace all" kind of job?

Jon - How much longer do you think you'll continue working? My husband is doing that debate. He's 64 and he's just not sure what he wants to be when he grows up.

WOO HOO Goriana! That is so awesome! No colds!

Hi gang!

Why wouldn't you provide stellar leadership? You and Carol keep this mottley little cres involved. We're glad you're getting back into it, you've had a really great streak for most of this year.

Wait, what? Some accounting Mgr trashed talked the VP Ops with "He started it"? Short gone list. I understand not leaving yourself short staffed but he goes on the screaming "NOW HR dammit!" replacement ads. Building your own team with the end goal of having people who have been there-done that for years. Look for those who'll be there after you leave (at retirement). Go for it, you'll never regret it but you know that.

Carol, your're very fortunate to walk into a solid core.

The above is kind of how I'm approaching the time left before I end a work life that started at nine on my Grandfathers Christmas tree farm. Everything I do has morphed from "How do I protect the Company" to include "How do I leave this place better than when I got here?". A series of off server emails with the owner this weekend suggest I have made a difference and I want those policies and procedures to survive. A good circuit session this AM with the usual stationary bike and heavy resistance bands. I need to do more core work.

Mostly it's exhausting because our systems are inadequate for our situation, our staff is immature and not the best, and I'm doing everything I can to do improve everything at once. Put that way, it sounds like I'm being the crazy one. I think maybe I'm still just adjusting.

I'm more introverted too, and my job demands constant interaction with people all over the organization right now.

I had to have a conversation with my AP manager yesterday to tell him not to have any more emotional outbursts. He literally said "well Javier started it". I was dumbstruck. Javier is the VP of Operations. I've never in my life had someone at work say "well he started it". I felt like I was dealing with an 8 year old. Truth is, this guy isn't too bad at his job when he can focus, but he's so emotional. He actually is scaring some of the people here with his outbursts. I really need him to stay in place since my Accounting Manager just quit. I think fundamentally these folks have never worked at the pace and level of excellence that I demand, and so some are leaving. Which actually is good. I just don't want them all to leave at once. :)

Fundamentally this job is going to be good for me. Once I get the systems and people in place, it will not be so draining. In fact, it's pretty good right now. I think maybe I just need a nice holiday weekend!!! Oh yes, it's coming up!!

Heather - why is leading exhausting? Do you have difficult employees? Just remember that you are the leader...therefore you can put someone else in charge of the touchy-feely stuff. That's what I do since I'm an introvert.

I didn't have to designate a lead person here because everyone here is very professional. Two of my A/P people and my cost accountant have been here for over 20 years and all but three have been here over 10 years.

Back to normal today after the big board meeting yesterday. It was a good meeting and we had all our ducks in a row. Walk at lunch today! I sure missed it yesterday and I didn't get home until after dark so I didn't get any exercise yesterday : (

Good Morning! Off to a great start here in my office. Hahahaha!! Being a leader is tough work, but I'm trying to rise to the occasion at every moment and provide stellar leadership. Between you and me, that can be exhausting. :)

Workouts are getting better again! I'm so happy to be focused again.

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day!!!
