Welcome Zipitup! I love RI!

I'm jealous of the ocean swims! I just moved further north and I'm now on the ocean over the hill from San Francisco, with icy cold water, home of the ruptures and the great whites. Closest pool is 25 miles but 45 minute drive (sigh).

Jen - There are definitely software programs designed to do that. If you ever want me to research it for you, let me know.

Lots of rain Jon? I guess it is getting to that time of year. It will be interesting for me to live where it rains more. Having the owner's son in your merry band is excellent.

You're only about 40 watery miles away from the end of this big old sandbar. Agreed on the so much nicer. Ocean? You around Point Judith?

That's a pretty good all around workout Zipitup. D o you have a local pool? I'm also a salt water swimmer but have no access (40 miles ?) to a pool offseason. The Atlantic is a pretty long shoreline (grin) where along it are you swimming?

Hand printing in the digital age, Jen? That sounds almost medieval except for the fact that a former co-worker and school chum back to Kindergarden has caligraphy down to an art form seen to be belived. There has to be a place in the digital world for hand made.

Hello
I have been biking over to meet a friend and go swim in the Atlantic. The bike ride is about 1.5 each way. We were in there for 25. I also walked 6 miles.
I keep thinking I will join the pool as it is late October but am really enjoying the ocean instead.

Hi folks :)

I had to go back and catch up the past few days, lots of job talk! I've been super busy the past few days, fighting for my lunch break kind of busy. Jon, you mentioned if there was anyone else that seemed to feel the same and yes - it does seem like management is trying to steer the ship out of burn out land. But from what I can gather, it's a newish push, and while they mean well I can't tell if it'll be effective. It could be too little too late in a field that has rapidly digitized. We hand write history cards and print job tickets, it seems odd to me that there isn't a tech based system for job tracking that doesn't require print outs.

We shall see... In the mean time, I need some exercise! Gotta adjust that balance again

Hi gang!

"Work hard, stop bitching all the time, and just get it done so we can feel good about the work product then go home and enjoy other parts of our life." Perfect. Keep the ones who "get it" and let the dead wood, as Carol put it, fire themselves. I'm sure Carol remembers as I do that payroll "manager". Don't sweat it, you are are a positive person, First homecoming? Awww, so sweet. Let's see a photo or two of Sydney's first (?) formal. Follow-up - how did that mean girl thing shake out?

lol, Carol, my little group of insurgents consists of me and the GM (owners' son so a very valuable ally) so I understand completely overcoming the inertia of "We've always done it this way". There's a 30 year + difference in ages between us but we have the same outlook in where to take this place.

Still struggling under the weight of the upcoming show but better this year (see the comment about insurgents above) with slow change taking hold. A Brother-In-Arms is back from his Florida transfer long enough to work the show preparedness and the show itself. Always good to see one who believes in working hard and laughing at the absurdities. Lots of rain today into tomorrow so tomorrow looks like another indoor work-out day (sigh).

Yep! I always say I never fire anyone...they always fire themselves.

My staff (with the exception of one - who is currently working on firing himself) is awesome. I have no bickering, no in-fighting. They are mostly smart, professional and hard workers. It's a pretty awesome staff. ...management, however, is a different story altogether. There's a core group of us who have agreed to band together and make this place hum. We'll see if we can change the culture.

YAY for Friday! I haven't seen my hubby for three weeks and we're both really feeling it! I don't think we'll do that again! Here comes a weekend of building!

Good Morning!! Happy Friday!! I'm so happy it's Friday!!! I have a great plan to get all of my work done so I can leave and have a nice weekend.

My work philosophy is starting to filter down to the people who work for me. Work hard, stop bitching all the time, and just get it done so we can feel good about the work product then go home and enjoy other parts of our life. There is a tremendous amount of complaining that I'm starting to get wind of. That just drains the energy to get stuff done. I can change that!!! My attitude will influence those that work for me.

I've also made it extremely clear that if someone new isn't working out (which one new person here isn't very well) that we need to cut her loose and start with a new person. That seems to be surprising to these folks. Maybe that idea will light a fire under two of the managers that work directly for me so they understand I don't have a lot of patience for sub-par work. Anyone here remember that horrible payroll manager that worked for me for three long years and that messed up completely the payroll implementation two years ago? Well, that's not ever happening again to me!! :)

So, going to have a good day, and a fun weekend of working around the house and getting kid to homecoming dance.

I'm working hard to keep my positivity. Everyone says I'm a very positive person. I do try because well, I prefer to be around positive not negative people.

OK, enough chatting!!! Time to work!!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day!!!
