Yes. My experience is that if you do the data mapping you usually find that it's pretty simple (especially with Microsoft's Nav) As long as you do a template to upload, you just pull it and do it monthly

Thanks for the input!!! I think the idea of asking for the data dump might help. I worked through it a bit more with the consultants and so I'm getting closer to where we need to be.

It's a silly exercise really because ultimately I am sure our data mapping is going to be very simple from our CRM to our accounting system. We are taking in high level data, not every detail. But, I have to nail this down because I have to get the consultants to give us a smaller range of potentially billable hours in order to get this SOW done and signed.

I love my life........

Swim was good, definitely needed that!

Carol, not quite learning new tasks but really implementing what I have learned so far in a very from the pan to the fire kind of way. One of our clients ramping up their busy season (health insurance open enrollment time!) And they've been assigned to me. So it's a lot all at once.

Heather, I'm sorry that all of that sounded like the teacher in peanuts to me, hopefully Jon and Carol's feedback is helpful :)

Kourtney...How are the new meds working? Is it work or just general blahs?

Pat, yes, we want to know where you are!

Heather - I have a couple of suggestions (I'm sure everyone is surprised at that lol.

1. Try an export file for QB as a CSV if possible, then bring it into Excel. Preferably one module area at a time. That will give you the input files for Nav.

2. Ask the current company to give you a back end load dump of each table for ...say the past month. This will give you the table structure...or rather the Nav people if that's not your area. (You could send me the data once you get it and I can do the file structure if you want)

If both of those don't work, let me know what they say as to "why" they can't do either of those, that will give me insight as to other suggestions to try. But either of these, if they work, will get the data you need.

Jon - Haha - YES do the feathers thing. I will probably be joining that at the end of this week.

Jen - Is it because you're learning new things?

Hi gang!

GIGO Carol. I still wrestle with leftover data. Aggravating as heck. Good job on the tiles!

Look at taking Mike in as time together Kourtney. We all need more of that.

If the Y and schools closed for rain it sounds like you could step out your door for a swim Pat. Where are you? There's a nasty one down from us on the east coast but the local weather guy (*cough* never wrong *cough*) insists it will veer off before the weekend.

Whew, that's a load, Heather. Not that I'm one of the smart ones but can you negotiate them doing a trial run on a dummy integration database without impacting allotted hours? On their dime? With observation (don't take their word "It went great report")That kind of software is hugely expensive and a failure to integrate is catastrophic. How can you not have access if it's critical to not only your Division but the entire company? Someone was asleep at that switch. It sounds like he's sending you in circles because he doesn't understand the process and, hate to say it, looking for a scapegoat? I believe you said this is a private company, possibly going public? No board to oversee and advise the process with the pressures on an IPO. If I'm incorrect perhaps the fast growth has overwhelmed him and he's focusing on that aspect as opposed to running what he has. I'd tread very carefully.

Edit: Oh yeah, me. Busted butt head down with only a couple of items of stupidity (!) today. Unfortunately one of them was above me and rather than call him on it I was thinking I learned long ago to the fight the battles I could win. This wasn't one of them. Things like that throw me off my game though so it took a while to ramp back up while thinking duck feathers, duck feathers...

OK smart team members, maybe you can help me with this and give me something reasonably intelligent to say about this and bring it to conclusion.

We have a clinic management system called Sycle. In it we track all patient interactions, appointments, invoices, devices purchased and dispensed to patients, payments received, etc. This is a web based service. We have a special instance of this built for us since we have a lot more clinics that the average user of this software. So, we have ODBC access as part of our subscription. With me so far?

OK, we are trying to get quotes on implementing a new accounting system. The customer info as noted above and the purchasing of items for sale are all items of data that have to come in from Sycle and go into, say, Dynamics GP (only way to get revenue and COGS info). The GP consultant gave us a huge range of hours for integration in the quote because they are just not sure how Sycle tables are set up and how they will map them to GP. My boss wants a smaller range so therefore I am supposed to reach out to Sycle and have them provide documentation on the tables so the consultants can see that before they begin integration and therefore be able to be more accurate in the actual hours they think the integration work will take on their side.

Well, I've asked several contacts at Sycle if they have documentation on the ODBC set up and they say they don't. Someone gave me a lot of detail like "the invoice info comes from 5 different tables in Sycle" and then blah blah details on that. So that seemed promising, but still, no documentation on what fields are in what tables. The other contact said, "well you have access so you should be able to see it", but I don't know how to see it and perhaps my security profile doesn't allow it. He's going to try to get me training, but he also suggested I reach out to my boss to see if he can show me the access. My boss is the one who sent me off to Sycle to get the damn documentation in the first place.

First, I feel like the boss is sending me in circles when he already has this. But regardless of that.......

Second, does it make any sense that the consultants are asking for specs on the ODBC and the DB provider says they don't have specs? How do they not have specs? This Sycle program has a built in integration for QuickBooks since the vast majority of the users have one or two clinics and therefore use QB as their accounting system.

Any insight from my computer savvy friends would be highly appreciated.

So much rain here that the YMCA closed along with all the school districts. So no swim today

Hi folks,

I dreamt of work all night and feel like I had no away time to mentally recoup. Add on to that a couple problems this morning and all I can do is my best to muddle through. Ugh

Swim tonight will be needed to clear my head

Hey ladies and gents,

I'm feeling off today. Just sad. Not really sure why, but I'd much rather go home than be here today. Trying to push through it.

I didn't get to swim this morning b/c Mike had a 6am meeting and needed to get to work for it (we have one car). Lame. I have a feeling swimming would've helped out my mood this morning.

Not much else to say. Hopefully I'll be back later feeling better.

Yep, we double posted. I even checked one more time before I hit post lol

I'm ridiculously excited that my husband has cut and laid a bunch of the edge tiles because it means we'll be able to finish the job this weekend. I'm going into work early again this morning to wrestle with bad data to try to make sense out of it. I'm trying really hard not to feel frustrated.

That means I'll do a shorter walk this morning so I'll walk to the store this evening. That's a nice three mile.

What are you guys up to?
