Do any of you have this prob. You decide you are going to get healthy and lose weight and you get a good start and then wham! Something tries to get in your way. This morning my knee was in bad shape so I was going to do the chair exercises-Now the stomach bug hit, can't stay out of bathroom. On the positive side, guess I'll show a loss tomorrow : ) As Scarlett O'Hara said " After all Tomorrow is another day"- So I'll be doing double duty exercise the rest of the week. Got to get on track and help the team We got to get our air miles up. We can do this!

They work pretty good and I broke a sweat so it means my heart was pumping. Was able to walk at oceanfront today. Will just have to alternate workouts.

I can definitely relate to your foot-I somehow tweaked my bad knee and that's not good. Got up this morning and couldn't hardly walk. Got the ice/pain med going-but going to try those seated exercises today. As the song says "ain't nobody gonna break my stride". I was down 1 lb today. Gonna hit Dubai looking good and ready to explore the sites.

MaryAlice, that's definitely what I want to avoid! I used to do low-carb to lose large amounts of weight very quickly, but one day I was curious and tracked calories as well and I was only consuming 800 a day, even when exercising!

Thanks to SparkPeople and another site, I put in my weight and activity level and found that my calories per day range from 1480-1800. If I've exercised, I'll consume more (I do my best to increase proteins and healthy fats especially)... But thanks to cycles of eating low carb, I'm still not used to this LOL! But I LOVE not feeling hungry and weak! And I've only been tracking proper calories for just over a month now, as opposed to just carbs, but I'm already feeling and seeing a difference and so are people in my household!

Note: I'm not bashing low-carb options, this is just better for me personally!

You can call me Tee. I am the leader of Outdoor Women spark team. One of my new friends on my team, vanella, suggested that I join this Challenge. I had considered it earlier. I guess that I needed that little nudge! I love to be outdors, but it has been very windy lately. Today, though, my spouse and I will climb up and continue building our roof. My wife and I have been homesteading here in west Texas for nearly 7 years. Five of those years were spent in limbo, as the Veterans Administration cut our income by a third. But that is behind us now. We need to complete our roof by July when the rainy season starts. Meanwhile we are in the windy season, loosing valuable construction time as the wind blows. I use, Farm Work: general, as a favorite entry on the fitness tracker!

I'm excited for this challenge to start! My only concern is the 2nd weekend. We'll be traveling and I'll be mostly dependent on what my MIL cooks or has in the house. Also, I know Saturday will be super-busy; but the dog will most likely need to take a walk so I can still get my exercise in.

Mary, The number of calories you consume is based on your size and how active you are. Remember if you have increased your activity you need more calories. They figure you burn 100 calories more a mile taking a walk then you do sitting and watching TV the same leant of time.

Your body is strange. If you don't feed it, goes into starvation mode and stops doing some things to save calories. It doesn't understand this weight lose thing.

Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday!

I'm really excited for this challenge. When I lost weight in the past, a challenge similar to this one (not on SP) made me feel super competitive and motivated and I lost a chunk of weight. The very idea of being down to 185 pounds by early June makes me want to dance on the spot! It's been seven years since I was that small emoticon

SparkPeople is recommending I consume between 1480-1830 calories to lose weight at my size, and even though I've been tracking calories instead of carbs for over a month now, I'm still struggling with the idea of eating MORE to lose weight!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all! I feel so good about this challenge already that I will probably sign up for the next one as well. Now I'm off to finish cleaning and grab a healthy snack!

Paula, Mom says I opened the back gate and went for a walk when I was 2. I've been walking ever since. But I've helped many people start walking.

You shouldn't push so hard, but I think you figured that out. I tell people if you have a tracker, up your steps 500 steps every time you can met your goal three or four days in a row. That is days you walk in a row. If you are doing time add 5 to 10 minutes at a time. There will be people that can add more at a time and there will be even more people that after they add this about 3 or 4 times the additional just comes and brings friends without them thinking about it.

The main thing is don't hurt yourself. A good pair of walking shoes is a must. I can't tell you which brand because they don't say it but different brands are made for different ways people walk. You have to find the one that works for you. Also the surface make a big difference. If you can find a packed dirt trail it is easier on your feet. Concert and marble are the hardest, and they want to put concert everywhere. A good place to find a packed dirt track is a high school track. Most of them will let the public on them, at least around here, but are very restrictive as to when.

Looking forward to this challenge, I would like to feel healthier, and not get so winded when tying shoes, walking etc. My main goal is to keep my blood sugars in a normal range.
Good luck everyone, going to make this a fun challenge, see what I am capable of achieving.

Hi Everyone,

I am very excited about the challenge for many reasons. I had dinner with my step-day today and he has been going to the local recreation center and working on building his muscles around and for his knees. He had a replacement in November he did excellent to the point you wouldn't even know he had it done. He started the exercises to build up for the surgery about 2 months prior so that helped a ton. I had double knee replacement surgery in late April 2014 and was not given the option or knowledge of such exercises.

Dennis ( stepdad) asked me to join him at the rec center when I was able to do so. The time that he goes I am working with my teenage son's school work. I am excited to be able to do it every other week this is when my DH comes off his week on work. He is a 7 on 7 off hospital worker.

I also will be working on cutting my sugar intake by a third.

I have started being a lot more active which feels great. Just need to not push so hard to go farther. I have been ending up in a huge amount of pain the next day in my legs. So scaling back some on the distance I was walking. I was shooting for a mile every other day. Previously I had only been able to walk our local park for about 15 minutes with a few breaks. Now I have scaled back to .33 miles a day every other day to avoid pain the next day.

Good luck on achieving all our goals that we have set for ourselves and the 5% Spring Challenge. Go Champions !

Thank you to all our leaders for all the hard work that they put in so that we can all enjoy the challenge. You all do awesome work and make it fun to get to a more healthy lifestyle.

Hello! I hope everybody's week is off to a good start!
I'm catching up on some posts here. Albums, what fun! We remodeled our basement over the winter so it's more enjoyable to work out & hang out down there. We hooked up the old turntable that hasn't been used for for quite a few years. It's great to be able to go back in time.
We saw America 2 weeks ago, it was an amazing concert!

You will see 3 tabs. Select "COMMUNITY." You will see a blue button that reads "SPARK TEAMS." Select that button.

A list of all your teams will appear. To the right is a grid and you need to be sure "Display on Spark Page," which is the 4th column has a checkmark. If not, if you click on it, it will.

When you next go to your SparkPage, the team should appear under your Spark teams.

The teams are private so don't show on your spark page. I get to the team by the drop down menu on the right side of the start page

How do we get to the Challenge Teams? This main one shows up on my list of teams on my sparkpage, but the one I have been assigned to does not, I guess because it is private. How do I find it? Thanks!

My parents said the only music worth listening to was the classics. So I don't know much till the 80's and I don't like it. DH likes the 40s, maybe because that is when his father was popular and Dh grew up with so many of the singers.

before we downsized DH digitized all our 33's & 45 (there were lots).
then we sold the valuable ones to a re-sale shop. Amazingly, the 45 record case was also worth some good $$. It was very hard - since the album covers & flyers were so interesting, too.

But, now we're able to listen to our old music off itunes on so many different media (ipod, shuffle, apple watch; sonos house speaker)... without needing all that space!

I had some really good vinyl before I moved 13 years ago. Had to lighten the load so gave it away and have regretted it ever since.

Wish it was as easy to lighten the load in the weight department. It's just not something you can leave by the side of the road, so guess I'll just have to keep doing the walking, toning, and eating a bit less food for now. This team will help me keep on track.

Have a great one.

I still have most of my LPs & 45s from 60s-70s. They are just taking up space but hate to get rid of them. We still have a turntable, so hubby gets them out sometimes and we go back to our younger selves. '60s music best ever.

I inherited a bunch of vinyl, but this summer while we were getting rid stuff we invited a guy from a country museum over to see if he wanted some things and he took almost all the records.

Joyce and Lisa, I also have vinyl records. Our player needs some work so I don't get to play them. I have 33's and I have 78's from my parents collection. I love it that my kids own own players and enjoy the oldies.

I used to drink only ice wateror cold soda. Then when I was a teenager my brothers and I hiked the grand canyon on a hot summer day. It is not like a mountain where you get to climb down after going up. The hardest part is at the end. I was so thirsty at the end of the hike, I became grateful for warm water or anything wet! Water has been my favorite drink at any temp since that day over 40 years ago!!

That's emoticon Joyce! I don't have nearly that many 33s but I still have a lot of my 45s. I don't listen to them very often. They tend to stick together so they take more monitoring.

I keep my water bottle full of ice and water. I find it hard to drink water at room temp. I have a Thermos non-sweat water bottle, hold 18 oz. fill it up in the morning and take it everywhere I go, refilling as it gets close to empty. If you keep it with you, don't try to force it, you will be surprised how much you'll drink in a day. And the more you drink, the less you'll want other beverages. I've been off track for quite a while, and was drinking Diet Coke, most of the day and might get 1 water bottle in a day. I started SparkPeople this week, now I'm drinking 2-3 bottles of water, and 1-2 glasses of Diet Coke. Hope this helps

Yes Lisa, I still have a record player and over 300 331/3 record albums, I don't have anymore of my 45's or 78's. I love them, some old songs you don't hear any more.
