We have snow coming down sideways. I was raining this morning at 3. I don't know when it turned to snow. It was before I got up. We still went to church. I was able to do my regular things. But I had no Sunday School class. That's rare that all the kids were gone today.

Our church is having a Big Game Party this afternoon, weather permitting. There might be a number of calls made about an hour or so before it starts. In the past, Super Bowl commercials have been so bad, including beer commercials, that its our policy that the picture and sound is turned off during the commercials and that's when those that wish to get refreshments that they can do so without missing anything. I usually go for the social part of it. I don't usually watch the game.

We're supposed to get a big snow storm this weekend. Yesterday's shopping trip to Zootown tired me out. I slept 9 hours straight last night. I slept in to 7. I rarely sleep that late. Not much planned, other church tomorrow, planned for this weekend. That's just as well with snow coming.

Friday! I get my hair done this morning. Then off to Zootown for stocking and visit someone who is in the hospital. Temperature is now 28 degrees. It'll get warmer as the day progresses.

Its warmed up a lot since yesterday. Its 33 now. I'm glad its warmer now. I have a pot roast in the crockpot. I start PT this afternoon. I'm doing a lot better now than I was, but I still have a little of that nagging pain in my hip. So I'm not sure what to expect. In 2 weeks, when I see the doctor for my foot, I will kick that boot off for good! I'll wear shoes on both feet. No open toed sandal. lol

I was able to make it to TOPS this morning! I turtled (stayed the same). On the way to TOPS, we were listening to the radio. They had a trivia question and I had a guess, so I called it in and won. I didn't hear what the prize was. But I'll expect it in the mail within a few days. Its a Christian book or CD. The question is Just in time for the Super Bowl, something grew to a record size of 6;3 pounds (I think that was the size). What was it? My thought went to Super Bowl foods. Then I thought of chips and dip …. it had to be the avocado. Sure enough!

We are cold, but not the frigid cold that is gripping the country. We were 11 above this morning but its up to 24 now. Eastern Montana is different though. But that is normal. Western Montana is usually milder and don't have the wind.

Good morning

I'm paying for the extra walking I did yesterday. Hopefully if I take it easy today, I'll be able to go to church tomorrow. I'll mostly sit today. I'll watch tv this afternoon, listen to the radio this morning. And I have a "can't set it down" book I'm reading. It's 550 pages and I'm about a quarter way through.

I've done some of those exercises. and Thanks!

I got into a stress tizzy this morning and I feel it now. I walked around the house for over an hour when my husband and I were on the phone with a member of our church. There is such a power struggle in our church now and I don't know what's going to happen. Its hard to deal with. After the call, I prayed to God to handle this situation. Now the hard part is to leave it to Him. My husband is a natural peacemaker, he's caught in the middle, and he's so frustrated now.

My hip is telling on me now. Its not as painful at it was on Wednesday, but its more than now. I'm fine as long as I sit on the couch or sit here at the computer.

I use ones they taught me in PT after I had the bad car accident, or ones they taught me in other PT classes after that when it is acting up. But I have tried others I have found by just googling Sciatica exercises for pain relief when I wasn't in pain just to try some out.

What works best for me is to lay on the bed on my back and bring my legs up so my knees are folded up towards my chest. Kind of like you are going to do the bicycle exercise in bed. But bring your legs close to your chest. Then put your hands on your knees to draw them in closer to your chest. So you are kind of curled up in a ball or fetal position. Then rock back and forth on your back toward the head board and toward the foot of the bed. Then you can roll a little side to side too.

Rolling on a foam roller can help work the kink out too.

Lifting your your knees off of your chest and back into a kind of sitting position while still lying on your back and then rolling the hips a little side to side can help too.

Another one is to stand next to a sturdy but tall table like a diner table. Put your hands on the table and step back parallel to the table. You can stand with your feet together, and your back bent a little so that you are resting your weight on your hands on the table. And then give you hips a slow and steady twist to one side and then back to center, and then to the other side and back to center. Or you can put your legs kind of like doing a lunge of one leg is closer when doing the twisting and then switch to the other leg. But if it hurts too much you might just want to wait and let the soaking help you. Or alternate with heat and cold on the spot, or for me I just like the heat, not the cold. Sometimes I will just lay on my stomach or my side and put a heating pad on my back on low. Or put it on low and lean against it in a chair or couch. But be careful not to get it too hot, or to lay all your weight on it too long as I have heard you can end up over heating your skin and maybe even getting a burn like issue from it. Especially if you fall a slept on it. And if you have high blood pressure I have heard that it, just like hot tubs or such can raise your pressure, especially if done too hot or too long.

I tried some of the YouTube videos for sciatic pain. I didn't do very many because they hurt so much and left me hurting. I decided not to do that again.

But this morning I feel so much better. I was able to fix my breakfast and take a shower. I hate sponge bathes, but sometimes that's all you can do. The last shower I had was Saturday and it hurt so much standing and getting in & out of tub, then back to bed.

Did the YouTube exercises help? I don't know. But I feel so much better this morning. I might try them again today.

Soak in a tub, do yoga like gentle stretches. You can google and find stretches for sciatic. I think that is my issue too. Only I am just use to it being just on the left side. I have been letting the warm water hit it in the shower to loosen it up and doing the same stretches that I learned to do for my left side for it. It is helping me, and time too is helping. All my best to you always.

Its just as I thought, my sciatic nerve is the culprit. It was probably caused from uneven walking. I can't get into PT until next week because they are booked solid. Too many people are slipping on ice. Winter in Montana!

All my best to you!

My right lower back started bugging me toward the end of last week. Not sure what I did or when. I don't usually have issues with it there, it is usually my left lower side from my sciatic that bothers me on and off from an old car accident. Or my upper right side obliques from my scoliosis. It was making it hard to get up and down and slow to move. But I kept at it. I had lots of bookkeeping to get down last week and this week, so I just took it easier trying to get up and down and moving around. Luckily it seems to be getting better little by little each day.

Our new tax company is getting all moved in and seems off to a good start. I was in and off of the office all last week. Worked Monday morning, Wed afternoon and Friday morning in the office and the rest of the time I was working at home on bookkeeping. I was even doing bookkeeping this weekend and Monday.

I was expecting my boss back today, but now he is not coming in until the end of the week. So since he wasn't coming in today after all he told me to only work half day in the office. I get to work on bookkeeping at home again this week and only go in when clients need me. So I will go in sometime tomorrow to get sales tax info from one client when he makes his way down to us. Friday I might end up going in to see the boss, and or to run a payroll. Then next week I will probably start having to spend more time in the office during the day time.

I hope all is going well with you all! Take care

My hip isn't any better this morning. I'm toying with going to Urgent Care at the Bone and Joint. It won't be until this afternoon. The roads are nasty right now.

My husband just brought my 2nd cup of coffee. I told him "It's nice to to have a maid " He laughed. He knows how much I hate being like this. But at least we can laugh a little.

Im not going to make it for Sunday School. My hip stared to hurt yesterday, to the point that it's hard to walk more than 10 to 20 steps without sitting or laying down for half hour or more. Even then I'm dragging my foot. Robert had to finish my breakfast and bring it to me. I hate being like this! I'm not sure if it's because of my lopsided walk or what. For now, I'm loading up on Aleve. I'll try to go to church. This is NOT a good Sunday to miss!

Good Morning!

I think I've decided to do the blog. I will also put a disclaimer on it for the pictures. There is only 1 picture, maybe 2 pictures, that I would think would bother anyone. The first picture was right after all the bandages were taken off. It showed all the stitches and swollen foot. The second picture was of the Xray of my foot just before the pin was taken out. Those are the only 2 that might bother some people.

This is another snowy day. There is a travel advisory. Good day to stay home and stay warm! I washed my hair this morning. I like clean hair, but I don't like to take the time to wash it, dry it, and style it. I like low maintenance. But I'd rather do it on Friday than Saturday.

7STIGGYMT - It could all depend on the livelyhood of the people looking at your blog. I am a retired nurse and I love to look at healing wounds. I would even be interested in treatment, care and if the wound is not healing. That just shows why I got into my profession.

Good morning!

To answer your question, that is a toss up, some might be really squeamish about the pictures, maybe in the title of the blog a warning about them. Then the squeamish people don't have to look if they don't want to. While others might find it educational. I hadn't thought about taking pictures of my skin cancer surgery scar until people kept asking me about it. But there wasn't really much to be squeamish about with it really, just a row of stitches on one side of my face. And now it just blended in with my smile line so you can't even notice it.

It is supposed to rain all day and evening here in Escondido, CA. Glad I get to work from home to doing bookkeeping. And luckily it should be clearer after today. We need the rain, but I would prefer it overnight so I don't get drenched trying to run to work and running errands. And don't like it so heavy that it is hard to see where you are driving.

Keep warm and have a great day and weekend.

Good morning!

Dealing with people on the job can be very difficult. Hang in there and log in when you get the chance. Do the best that you can and remember I said a few days ago, Life Happens!

I'm happy that that pin is OUT! That foot feels so much lighter, which is weird because that pin was really light. I have a question. I've taken picture my foot through different stages of healing. I've toyed with doing a blog with pictures of the different stages. I've seen reactions of friends that have seen or chose NOT to see the picture. Some really like to see the pictures and others don't want to see the pictures at all. Do you think I should do this blog or not? If I do, I might wait until after my next doctor appointment which is Feb. 13. This will be the last appointment before surgery on the other foot.

I looked out early this morning and saw just a dusting of snow. My thought was that's not 2-4 inches. My next thought was its early and we're in a storm warning all day today and into tomorrow. Well, its snowing now. We just might get the predicted or maybe more. We are at 3000 feet … at 4,000 feet they expect 5-11 inches. So we could get more.

I hope you heal well and fast!

I was supposed to run payroll for one company today. They needed changes made to most of their employee's pay rates too. And then another company wanted to add a new employee to their account but wanted his pay period different than their other employee on payroll. And she wanted me to email her a copy of everything before putting it in the mail too. So I finished that, and then she was complaining that there was too much money being held out in taxes. So I told her if she didn't want so much taxes took out that she shouldn't have told me to put him claiming zero for State and Federal, that we should have put him at claiming one for himself, since he is single. So I deleted out the first and ran it again that way. But she was still unhappy about all the taxes being taken out. And wanted me to explain to her what each deduction was for so she could hopefully explain it to the employee.

So what should have been a fast in and out of the office took hours to do two payrolls and take care of a few other things in the office, go to the post office and make a bank deposit.

We have a new tax professional moving into the office too with his wife/partner in the business. So he was already there when I got there and had moved lots of boxes of files and such around on us. And was asking me lots of questions too. I will be glad when the boss gets back from Chicago next week and we can figure out more where all of their files are supposed to be stored and what we are going to do with ours that won't fit into our cabinets too. We have such a small office as it is, so having two more people move in with lots of files will be interesting.

The previous company that we had move in with us for a short time didn't bring much over and were not in the office much. Even though there was two of them also. So it wasn't much of a deal that they were there.

I am getting a lot of walking in with work and errands and logging it on paper, I just don't seem to find time to get it logged into SP or the teams any more right now. I dig get over 4.5 miles in with work today and about the same yesterday, Monday was almost 8 miles with all the errands and such I had to do that day.

Have a great evening!

That's ok ... Life happens!

I saw the doctor this afternoon. He took the pin out. I still habe to wear the "open toes sandal for another month, but I can take the clunky toe guard off in 2 weeks. I can go to the pool when the hole where the pin came out heals .

It was beautiful clear day on Zootown today, butt our valley is socked in and so dreary. That's normal for January in our valley. It could stay this way for weeks at a time. It's good to get out at least once a week.

Sorry I have just been swamped with work lately, so I haven't been able to get in here as much.

I got drenched Monday a couple of times loading and unloading, and then reloading and unloading stuff into my truck for work. Then I had to go up to the northeast part of Escondido to see a client and the rain decided to come down harder just as I got on the freeway. It was hard to see in front of me, so I just kept my distance from the other vehicles and went slower to where I was going. I was glad to get back home and change clothes. I had to do work from home for several hours after that too.

Yesterday I had to go into work for a bit and run some more errands for work, but luckily I didn't have to bring a lot with me that time. And I timed it just right so it was just light showers or not raining at all. Then I came home and worked several more hours again on bookkeeping and such.

Another rainy day here. I am waiting for more info to add a new employee to one of my pay roll accounts before going into work for a short bit today. I need to run to payroll accounts and then come back home and work on bookkeeping again.

All my best to you always

Good morning!

1 more day until I get the pin out …. that's tomorrow! Then I find out what I can and can't do for awhile longer. And how soon, it will be when I can get the other foot done. The other foot isn't near as bad as the one I got done first. I 've been really protective of that foot, especially when there is a lot of people around. It becomes an instinct.

Its another cold (25 degrees) foggy day in western Montana. I'll take my friend, Mary, to the dentist this afternoon. I think she's just getting her teeth cleaned, so it shouldn't take too long plus about an hour and half travel time.

Good morning everyone!

2 days, thats day after tomorrow, I get the pin out!

It's another cloudy foggy day. All our snow has melted. We're supposed to get a snow storm later this week. As long as it's after Wednesday, I won't complain too much. I watched a funny video on facebook this morning. It showed people who could barely stand up on icy streets or driveways and they trying to get in their cars or getting ice off Windows. In some cases, the car was even sliding on the ice. I thought, If it's that slick, you don't need to drive! Stay home and stay safe!

Good afternoon!

3 days until I get the pin out!

Yesterday, when I walked to the store, the roads and sidewalks has a thin layer of ice. It was hard to walk on. I told the people in the store that they needed to get some de-icer out on their sidewalks. I don't know if they did or not. I told them when I got to the store and when I left. So they were told twice.

Today, I taught Sunday School, then we attended the Worship Service. After that we went out to lunch. Now a quiet afternoon at home. That's our normal Sunday.

Good morning everyone!

4 days until I get the pin out.

Foggy again today. I have no plans for the day, except walking to the store to get eggs. While at the store, I walk around the perimeter of the store, plus down some aisles for other things. It's a way to get more steps in and not as boring as walking in the house. It works to call a friend and walk while I'm on the phone.

Good Morning!

5 more days until I get the pin out! Its getting close!

Today is a beautiful sunny day according to the weather report. In reality, Its very foggy here and will probably stay this way for several days. This is normal every winter for this valley. I've seen it many times that its so dreary here and we go to Zootown, just 40 miles away and its a beautiful clear day. It can get very depressing knowing that we're going home to dreariness.

Good Morning!

6 days until I get this pin out! I'm thankful that this has gone smoothly. The doctor had warned me that if I got infection around that pin, that he would have to remove it earlier than ideal. So here I am, less than a week and no infection. Praise the LORD!

I don't know how soon I'll be able to get out and do a speed walk. I'm ready for that and I know I'll have to work up to it. I don't know if the doctor will prescribe PT. I'm hoping he does. I want to get moving. For now, I do a LOT of walking around the house. Its definitely NOT a cardio. But I'm moving. Its not a natural walk. I walk with a limp, mainly because of the pin. I can't bend the front part of the foot.

I hope you aren't getting tired of hearing about my foot. But the gal that I know who had the surgery a year ago said, "Your life is centered around your foot" That's true. I was asked last night at church if I'll be able to go to the pool soon. I think she missed it. I know I do!

Good Morning!

7 days (a week from today) I'll get the pin out.

I went to TOPS this morning. One of the thing some of our chapter does, we arrive about half hour early and walk. Usually around the parking lot, but it was a little icy, so we walked around inside the building. I had a one pound gain. UGH! I didn't need that after the Christmas weight. Oh well, I have something to work on this week. There is a LOT less Christmas goodies left in the house.

I found a way to get extra steps in. I call a friend in the evening and walk around the house while we are talking. Its good for 20 minutes or longer. Tonight, we have church, so I won't call her because she'll be there too. I'm really ready to get out and get a good cardio walk, but I can't until this foot is healed more.

What surgery did you have?

I had a terrible fall before Christmas and broke my left arm in many pieces.

I had surgery 2 weeks ago....trying to keep up with house work alone has been tough.

Folding clothes has been a night mare!

Good Morning!

8 days until I get my pin out! I said that to my husband last night and he said "I thought your appointment was on the 19th" I said, "That's on a Saturday" He checked the calendar and found out my appointment is a week from tomorrow on the 16th. Waiting an additional 3 days would be awful lol

I have a few errands to run in a neighboring town today. I'd rather stay home. But at least the road should be good. It just takes at least an hour or more out of the day. I'm so ready for Spring!

Jokingly, I say have some surgery. My husband started doing the dishes (a job I've always disliked) after I had surgery. I know that's not a good option.

If you figure something out, let me know. My husband sits at the computer most of the day. His attitude is that he's retired, so he doesn't have to do anything. I asked him when do I get to retire.

Appreciated the SparkMail encouraging participation. I'm doing a few things I learned from Flylady, but I'm not doing near enough.

The biggest thing discouraging me is my messy, messy husband. Seems like I could spend every waking minute of every day following behind him to contain his messes. Any suggestions?

ood morning everyone!

9 days until I get the pin out, that single digit now!

I've been rubbing the oil from a Vitamin E pill on my incision. It's supposed to help with the healing. I massage it for 10 minutes. I do that 3 times a day. It feels good to have the foot out in the open air. I have a bandaid on the end of the toe to protect the pin from snagging on socks. I take the bandaid every morning and leave it off for an hour or 2, depending on how soon I massage the foot. I also enjoy my first (of 2) cup of coffee during this time.

I don't have much planned for the day. I'll walk down to the grocery store later, mainly to get out. It snow less than an inch last night and I woke up this morning to the sound or snow plows. Really? Less than an inch! They probably need a little gravel more, but rarely spread that. The roads can get really slick, especially at intersections. When it gets really bad, I sprinkle a little kitty litter where I cross the street to get the mail. It provides traction. If you ever use kitty litter for thus, use the cheap old fashioned non-clumping kink. The clumping kind turns to slick slime that sticks to your shoes and tracks in your house. It's nasty.

Good afternoon!

10 days until I get the pin out!

Today, was like most Sundays. I taught Sunday School. The lesson today was a comparison between Jesus and David. They had several similarities. After that, was the Worship Service. Our annual church meeting is on the last Sunday of this month. As secretary, I have a few things to get ready for it. I'm pretty much up to date though.

After church, we went out to eat. I came home and relaxed a few minutes while I listened to one of my favorite radio programs. I slept through it. grrrr but then I probably needed it. I better quit here so I can go message my foot with Vitamin E. I do that 3 times a day most days.

Good Morning!

11 days until I get the pin out!

With shopping, according to my downloaded pedometer, I had over 11,000 steps in 110 minutes. That's the most I've done since surgery. I can't do the real cardio walking, but its still something. We bought a new heater for our bathroom. Hubby is working on that now. The old one quit and its cold in the bathroom in the mornings for my shower. I'll be glad that will be fixed now. The heater quit working a month ago. My husband kept putting it off. Finally, I told him he either gets one or I'll buy a space heater that we really don't have room for in the bathroom. No more excuses! I'll have a warm room to take a shower tomorrow morning. lol

Good morning everyone! 12 days until I get the pin out.

My husband's glasses are ready to be picked up, so we're going to Zootown today. An elderly , low-income friend is going with us, so that she gets some first of the month shopping done. I wish she would eat better, but living alone she does easy, like frozen meat pies and tv dinners. She knows her prices too and is very frugal. It might be a long day! But we'll enjoy it.

Good morning!

13 days until I get rid of this pin! Count down has begun! I'm hoping that my doctor prescribes PT to get my strength back and to help my gait. For now, I massage the incision with Vitamin E. I watch TV in the afternoon without my boot and sock. At night I wear a lighter sock to protect that pin. I have a Band-Aid over the end of the toe to protect that pin. It all gets old! 13 more days!

Depending which weather source you look at, we're either going to have a snow/rain storm or maybe not. It amazes me how they can differ so much. But then they make educated guesses. In the end, God is in control!

Good morning! 14 day until I get the pin out!

I went to TOPS this morning. 2 pound gain UGH! but its been a 2 pound loss since last week when we didn't have a meeting. So that a good thing. Christmas is hard. Way too many tempting foods! That's past now. It can only get better. We have one member that lost nearly 30 pounds in a very short time. She's been sick and that explains the weight loss. I told her that if under normal circumstances, she lost way too much too fast. She admits that this is not the best way to lose. You can't help it when you're sick. She has been seeing her doctor and her doctor doesn't want her to lose any more weight. She's going to have an endoscopy as soon as it can be scheduled.

Happy New Year!

I would really love to get out and do a good power walk, but my foot just isn't ready for that. It will be awhile before I can. It takes about 5 minutes to walk a block to the store. Before surgery, I could walk to the store and back, plus walking the perimeter of the store and down some aisles in less than 10 minutes. I'm planning on going to the grocery store today, but I have to figure out something I need. I feel so cooped up right now. I'm supposed to get the pin out of my foot on the 16th. Then I'm hoping I can do more. For now, I rub Vitamin E on most of the incisions. There is one little spot that isn't quite ready for it. Maybe by the end on the week.

Today is a short day for me. We stayed at church New Year's Eve party and prayed the new year in. So I slept in until 8:30. I'm usually up between 6 and 6:30. It's when I wake up with no alarm clock. Tomorrow, I'll be back to normal, at least with going to bed and waking up on my usual times.

Our church has a New Year's Eve party tonight. There will be lots of left over Christmas goodies to eat. Just what I need! Not! There will be games and visiting. Then, just before midnight, we'll form a circle and pray in the New Year. I like the idea of praying in the new year, but for the rest of it, I'd rather stay home and go to bed. Somewhere along the way, I turned into an old buddy buddy. lol

It 15 degrees out this morning. I guess I should be thankful it's not below 0. It's supposed to be colder for a few days. I get rid of the pin and the boot on January 16. I'll start the count down.

We'll go to church in a little while. All our snow melted yesterday when the temperature got up to the low 40s. It's raining this morning. Out typical Sunday is Sunday School, church, eating out, the n relaxing the rest of the day. But we are flexible enough that we change plans easily. I wonder what today will bring.

Yesterday I saw the gal that had the same surgery I had. Hers was about a year ago. Mine was 24 days ago. She commented on how her life was centered on her boot. I can relate to that. Like me, she got the worst foot taken care of first. My husband thinks I should wait until next winter to get the other foot taken care of. I'm thinking about getting it done as soon as I can, which is in March. I don't want it to get any worse than it is.
