Meg, that is actually my plan. I have a freezer full of veggie steamers and things like boneless pork chops, boneless chicken breasts, ground beef. I should be okay. I have ready to eat breakfast options, plus eggs and other items. I just need to figure out what I have in order to make things like my healthy weight loss cabbage soup, snacks, and other items. I think I should be okay with everything I have so far.

I'm tired of living on the sidelines...I'm ready to get into the race!!!!!

Brenda - One of the things I do is to find a protein and a veg at least for each meal. So if you can go through your fridge and freezer and find one of each that should help you at least get a few meals going off of what you have. For instance, if you have ground beef and frozen green beans, defrost the ground beef, either break it up as it cooks and season it with onion (fresh if you have it or powder if you don't), salt, pepper. Drain it, measure out 6 oz and serve it with cooked green beans and a starch (rice or noodles) if desired for a dinner. Then you can have ground beef with the rest of the green beans for lunch the next day. It's pretty basic but it clears out something and helps you last until the 13th.

My suggestion would be to look at what you have and figure out a protein and veggie for each meal and write them down by day for the next two weeks and see how far you can make it on what you have.

I do not use a tracker. I track my calorie, time and minutes with the gym machine & lower the amount of calories burned by walking. I find all trackers online to overestimate calories burned. If I burned the amount they say I would lose up to 10 pounds a week.
I plan my diet & exercise for 7 days & update every 2-3 and shop from the grocery list all sites list. I plan menus with my budget & what I have on hand to save money. I eat 55% carbs,27% fat and and 18% protein, the amount of the new government standards with less red meat and more fish, chicken and various beans for protein.. I try to have lots of potassium for my health and take certain vitamins to help my kidney disease,
If you want recipes try ,allrecipes.com and join for free, you can adjust all recipes before using to the correct amount of servings and they have a low calorie recipe section with every recipe having a picture as well as grocery lists..

I know that we have the nutrition tracker here on SP, but I was wondering what type of tools (templates, printouts, or apps) do you use for menu planning? I want to go through my freezer and refrigerator today to see what kind of menu I can come up with before making a grocery list. I only have $55 left on my SNAP card, plus a $25 Kroger gift card to last me until next Friday the 13th. I have a lot of food in the fridge and freezer, but am at a lost at how to put it all together neatly, efficiently, and economically. Help? Anyone? I actually posted the same question on my Living Simply Sassy Classy's Facebook page, and no one has commented yet. So, I thought I'd come here.

After reading a few articles about the validity of these electronic trackers I decided to cease wearing mine. I also read (sorry if anyone who believes this) that they also have not been found to appreciably help in losing weight and/or improving your level of fitness.

A very exciting day and so much to look forward to. I'm trying to figure out how I will track my walking exercise. I wear a Fitbit, and previously I was only looking at the number of steps and number of miles. I just discovered that the minutes are only track the "active" minutes, meaning exerting more energy. Not the whole walking minutes. So, where as it tracked 40 something minutes, I actually walked more than double that. But not all were strenuous. So now I need to track another way and forget the fitbit. Or what?

You're welcome, Earnie. I was excited to find mine last night. I was anxious because I never received them in summer & fall 2016. Whew!

Hope I'm not too annoying with these links I am sharing. Just tell me if I am. I find them helpful & hope some of you do as well. This one looks at some foods that we sometimes think are "bad" & is from livestrong.org.

IRISHEI, post your goals on your Spark page and/or a blog, if you wish. No, you don’t have to pick a word for the challenge. That’s just a topic of conversation in our chat thread the past few days.

Chele (FISKER) I hope you don’t stress too much! Just take it slow and don’t worry about it if you’re unable to fulfill all challenge suggestions.

Pam (PJPEGG), you should have received a link to your team in your team invite. Maybe there is a forum there for a Rookie school.

OLDEROWL, this team and the mini-challenges listed at the bottom are probably the only ‘test-flight’ you’ll get. Just be sure to read all the rules on both this page and on your team page and, if you still have questions, Spark mail a team leader. They are all awesome and usually pretty quick to answer.

I’m spending the day sewing and cooking. It’s kind of a dreary looking day so far.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
HAPPY YEAR OF THE ROOSTER!

Maribeth, I love and agree with your post that 2017 is going to be amazing!

Speaking of that, the dog and I walked a mile and a third in the fog and mist this morning. The dishwasher is going, I'm finishing a cup of coffee, and now off to get ready for Church.

My word of the year will have to be DETERMINED!

We have a few changes lined up for this year and we must be determined! We want to sell our house. And we want to move to USA!! In the meantime, I'm determined to stay on the healthy lifestyle path and determined to lose 10 lbs!

2017 let's do this!

Some wonderful words for the New Year. I've been thinking about a word, and thought about "think", but wanted something with a little more "umph" to it, so I will choose a good old-fashioned word: ponder.

My word for 2017 is Peace.

The Serenity prayer comes to mind too---but so much more than that.

This year I will strive to find peace in all that comes my way. My heart and mind are full--and I cannot fully convey my thoughts-- peace is something I think we all need a little more of. I hope to pin it down more specifically in 2017!

first 5% challenge. loved reading everyone's word of the year. Mine will be kindness. I wish everyone showed others more kindness every day, so I will be aware on my own kindness each and every day.
When do we start posting on the team pages and where do I find the Rookies?

Wishing everyone a blessed new year. I am inspired by your "word" for the year. I am reading about brokeness & rising Strong in books by authors Ann Voskamp & Brene Brown. My words for the year are broken & boundaries. I am in the midst of adjusting to change as we have spent the last couple of years supporting & caring for my Dad as he battled cancer & heart issues & left us for heaven in late November. We now transition to supporting my Mom & continuing to seek to live a healthy life in a multigeneration home. I find this season of life with my own physical health challengies to be both exciting & a bit stressful. I am seeking a balanced way forward in 2017. Smiles Barb

Last day of the year! Is there anything you need to do before 2016 is over? 2016 wasn't a terrible year, but wasn't spectacular either. I'm banking on 2017 being a stellar year! I'm spending today wrapping up plans for the challenge, setting my morning and evening schedules, and making meal plans. emoticon
