My apologies for not posting much for the past few days - it's been a busy week for me. I got the good news from the pulmonologist Wednesday that I do not have that lung disease after all. And he ordered a new inhaler, which will replace two of the ones I've used for years.
Thursday I went to the dentist, and he repaired my broken tooth, which was expensive, but it's good not to have the sharp edges cutting into my cheek!
Yesterday I saw my doctor. She didn't seem concerned about my swollen legs - just told me I should be wearing support hose, which I hate - they're so hard to get on! And I need to keep my legs elevated more. I knew that, but when I'm online, it's hard to raise my legs under the desk. I have been keeping them up when I'm reading. I had the support hose on today, but for some reason they were really hurting my heels, so I've just taken them off, and that wasn't easy either.
Sorry for being repetitive!

Mema - I'm sorry the vendor fair was a disappointment! The key ring with flashlight sounds like a good thing to have. I'm glad you had a visit with your neighbour.
Yes, Guelph is in Ontario, about 2 1/2 hours south of here by car.
What kind of bread do you usually get at the outlet? I love interesting breads!
I'm glad your DS had such a good appointment with the nutritionist. I'm glad he knows the ranges to stay in for different types of food.
I'm glad there were 7 people at Zumba. It's too bad that not everyone comes at one time, but it sounds like it's going well anyway.
Sorry you need to wash windows. We got new windows instead of having them washed! They hadn't been washed for 3 or 4 years and really needed it!
I'm very glad to hear that your DH got good news, finally! I hope the results of the chest X-ray and blood work will all be good too.
I'm happy that your cough is finally going away!

Kate - I love that dress you posted! Did you order it, or are you looking around for more possibilities?
I'm happy to have leftovers the next day. I don't do well with putting things I've cooked into the freezer - they end up in the garbage eventually. I was very glad to be having chicken and broccoli 3 days in a row this past week!
That's a funny quote about the MIL wearing beige and keeping quiet! I certainly kept quiet. My DS and his wife paid for everything themselves, so it certainly wouldn't have been my place to make any sort of disparaging comments, but I really liked everything they did.
I'm glad you've now got the yarn you need for Santa's face.
I had the support hose on today but for some reason it was really hurting my left heel, so I've taken it off. I'm setting my timer for one and 1/2 hours - for being online, then reading with my feet up. It works all right on the weekend, but I'll have to work it out during the week too.
I'm glad you just need to show up for the bridal shower at the end of the month. Did you and the bride's mother go together on a gift? I remember that that was a possibility, but don't remember if you'd decided on something.

I hope you're both having very good days!

Leslie – elevation and support hose seem like a good treatment for swollen legs, but rather disruptive to normal activities. Hope it’s helpful in bringing the swelling down.

Mema – emoticon Hooray for a good result for your DH. And, yes, I guess the lungs are often the first place a melanoma metastasizes so a lung x-ray is a good thing.

Nice that you’re getting a good bunch for Zumba. Slower and easier steps would be good for me. LOL

A lot of the Catholic churches around here have Saturday afternoon services but none of the protestant churches. It does seem like a nice option.

The bridal shower is Feb 29th and the bridal attendants are doing all of the planning and work so I just have to show up.

I did laundry today and then went up for Zumba. We had 7 of us there today. We have a couple of "regulars" and then we've had new people off and on. I was telling DH on our golf cart ride tonight that I think there have been 10-12 people that have come - just not all at once. I also got to try out one of my new songs and routine's. The gals seem to like it and it's a slower song and pretty easy steps to follow.

Tomorrow I have to go up to church and set up for communion for tomorrow's service. Jan/Feb we have a service on Sat. at 4 pm and Feb. is my month. Then in the afternoon, I'll have to go back after church and get it re-set for Sunday's service. I also have to pick up a Rx at Walmart and then I am going to wash windows!! Ugh, but it needs to be done badly. So it will turn out to be a busy day. And I need to get to bed a little earlier than I have been. I've been staying up until about midnight and then not getting up until about 9 am. I'd like to get an earlier start to my day - especially tomorrow.

Oh, and the Dr. who did the surgery on DH in San Antonio called here today about 4:45 pm. First of all he said, DH is clear!! emoticon That was good news. He does want him to see the dermatologist that we saw in the first place so she can look at the incision and then he's also ordering a chest x-ray and some blood work. I asked what the chest x-ray was for and he said, it's pretty standard to have that done after someone has had melonoma. Just double check, I guess that it hasn't spread there. Maybe that's a common place for it to go???? I don't know, but DH is going to do all of what he says. But nothing like waiting until the very last minute to call! 4:45 pm on a Friday! Sheesh! At least it was good news.

Leslie - I was once asked to help put on support hose for a guy who lived down here. His wife just could not do it herself because of some health problems she had. He couldn't do it himself because I think he was about 375 lbs.!! I actually had to look online, I think I went to you tube to see how to do it. It is a tough job! I hope you get the hang of it.
I hope keeping your feet elevated helps - seems like it should.
Did everything go alright for your dentist appointment?
Sorry you couldn't get to the lab today, but if you can go next week, maybe you won't have such a busy week next week!

Kate - I agree with you about sticking to a part healthy diet, than not sticking to a strict diet. I think it will take DS awhile, but hopefully he'll get used to eating better (I actually call it normal) and make better choices. If he starts to see some results and isn't feeling hungry all the time that will help. I told him also that in the evening when I'm watching TV that's when I think I feel hungry. I said if I don't feel like eating an apple, then it's not hunger, but a craving. It's because I'm bored, but I don't want to get up and do something because I'm watching a show! That seemed to make sense to him.
When is the bridal shower going to be? Are you involved in that in any way - like games, prizes, decorations or food?

Enjoy your Saturday!

Another brief note today - I left my apartment at 9:40 this morning and just got back! I saw my doctor about my swollen legs and I need to keep my legs elevated more, which I really can't do here at the desk. I'll start wearing support hose too - I hate it. It's so hard to get on.
She ordered blood work, but I didn't have enough money to pay for the bus to make 2 trips - one to the lab and one home. And I was also hungry, and in need of a pain pill. I'll get to the lab next week. I'll see her again in March.

Sorry - I need to go and get my feet up now. I should be able to get caught up tomorrow.

Leslie – what very good news about your lungs. Hope the dentist appointment went well.

Mema – I’ve heard the same quote about keeping quiet and wearing beige. Actually the MOB is wearing something like beige although she called it champagne.

Nice that your DH called just at the right time to be able to get the bread. All this waiting for results must be very stressful.

Hope the new Zumba routine goes well.

I think most nutritionists have given up telling people what they shouldn’t eat. A lot of people won’t stick to that kind of diet even though they know it’s what’s best for their health. And since they can’t stick to it, they give up. Having a plan that is more achievable, encourages people to really try doing to it. And a part way healthy diet is better than a perfect plan that you won’t do.

I decided that the yarn I had for Santa's face was too dark a pink so I bought a new ball of yarn. I didn't have the car on Tuesday or Wednesday so I couldn't continue until I had that. I have to un-knit a few rows and switch it over the pink. Then I really need to get working if I want it done by the bridal shower. I'm really slow at knitting.

I did a few errands today. While DH was at Bible study I ran to the bread outlet store and their shelves were bare! When I asked the girl where all the bread was she told me their truck hadn't come yet - it comes in the afternoon. So that was a disappointment. DH called me to let me know he stopped at Walmart after Bible study and if I needed anything. I said, Yes, bread! LOL So he got one.

Then this afternoon, I burned a bunch of paper! Mostly DH's dad's stuff from when he passed away. We have a milk carton crate that was full. I burned half of that today! Maybe I can burn the rest tomorrow.

My DS called me tonight to tell me about his appointment with the nutritionist. He was very pleased on how it went. He thought she would tell him all the stuff he can't eat. Instead, she focused on more of a portion controlled diet and then gave him ranges to stay w/in for his carbs, protein and fat. He said last night he was able to have 2 taco's (they made them at home) and was still in his range for carbs! He was excited about that. I told him after awhile, he'll know by heart how many carbs, etc. most of the food that he eats has. Just like I'm very familiar with how many calories a lot of food has because that's what I tend to watch. Although, lately not as much as I should... emoticon

DH also put the last 2 songs on my MP3 player for Zumba. I have the steps down for one of the songs and am working on the last song. So tomorrow, I'll be able to show the gals the new song! I'm excited about that. I think I will work on that tonight.

Leslie - Woo Hoo! Great news from your pulmonologist!! I'm so happy for you. I hope your dental appointment goes well, too!

Kate - DH and I just finished up a bunch of left overs I had in the frig for supper tonight. He's pretty good about having them for supper. And depending on what it is, I may have something for lunch the next day. My DS was always good at taking left overs to work with him for lunch instead of eating out.
I did feel much better today. I was coughing a bit last night, so I am continuing to take my ibuprofen if I need it, but my cough does seem to be getting better. I have 2 more days of my antibiotic. Keeping my fingers crossed!
DH called the cancer center yesterday and today and still has not heard back from them. He's getting kind of frustrated and I don't blame him. I'm sure he'll call again tomorrow and will probably be a bit more forceful. He's even told them that there is medication that he needs to get back on, so he needs those results ASAP.
I LOVE the dress you posted! It's beautiful. That would be lovely! I like the navy and burgundy colors, too. Hope the guys get black shoes! emoticon Since you are the mother of the groom, I have a cute story to tell you. When I was first getting married, I was 19 years old. My future MIL was talking to my mom about dresses and she said to my mom, "Well, I was once told that since I'm the mother-in-law, I'm supposed to wear beige and keep my mouth shut!" We laughed when we heard that and she was telling it like a joke, too! I was the "mother-in-law" when my DS got married, but I wore bronze! LOL They were doing most of the planning themselves anyway, so I wasn't as involved!

Have a great day!

Just a brief note today - I need to get busy cleaning my mouth prior to my dental appointment.

I got excellent news at the pulmonologist's office yesterday - I do NOT have that interstitial lung disease after all! I was very happy to hear that! He asked if I'd been having any problems with colds or coughs and I said I haven't had anything at all since I had the pneumonia in 2009! I hope I haven't jinxed myself by saying that!
I'm very glad your cough is improving Mema.

I need to go and floss and brush now. emoticon

I hope your days are going well.

Leslie – glad you were able to make it to exercise class again.

How was the pulmonologist appointment? Did he have any thing helpful to suggest?

Sounds like your week continues to be very busy w/ your appointments every day.

The mini vacation with your DS is something to look forward to. Queen’s suite sounds lovely.

I like to cook extra for left overs but I don’t like eating them the next day. I put things away in the freezer and have them the next week.

Mema – antibiotics can certainly make your stomach upset. Good that they are helping the cough. Hope you feel better today.

Hope your DH gets the results soon and that they are good. I never thought about all the complications of not being able to take regular medications while having surgery and waiting for results.

Gloucester is about 35 – 40 miles from Boston and about as far from our home.

DS and his groomsmen will be wearing navy blue suits and the bridesmaids will be wearing burgundy. The mother of the bride is wearing a long champagne colored dress w/ lace overlay.

I am thinking I want navy with some kind of print over the top that has pink or burgundy in it. I still need to hit the stores and try things on. I can’t quite picture clothes until I have them on. Or at least – I do picture things in my mind and then find they don’t look at all like that picture when I try them on. I spotted this dress on line as a possibility. Although I’d probably stitch up the slit.

The vendor fair was OK - nothing special. There were about 35 businesses there, but most of them were not of interest to me. Assisted Living facilities, new garage doors, a glass and window place, funeral home, med-vac helicopter, hospitals, hearing aid business, travel agency and they all had little "give aways". A lot of pens, key ring w/a flash light, can coolers, fabric shopping bags, and an assortment of other little things. It was nice to go to. And it was nice to visit with my neighbor. She still works (from home) so I don't see her too often.

I wasn't feeling all that good today. A bit of an upset stomach, but my cough is much, much better. So I just rested the rest of the day. I think it's a little side effect of the antibiotic, but not serious.

Tomorrow I don't have anything going on, so if I'm still feeling a bit under the weather, I can rest again.

DH's incision is starting to itch now. A couple of times, he's squeezed his eye shut to try to alleviate the itching and it's pulled a bit on the incision and a couple of drops of blood came out. We haven't heard yet from the skin cancer center with results of the testing. DH called today to see if they knew anything yet. Hopefully, I'll either get a call or text tomorrow. That would be nice. One of the reasons for him knowing is because he hasn't been able to take ibuprofen now in over a week and he takes that everyday for pain. Plus the other medication that he had to stop taking for 14 days, he hasn't gone back on that either in case we need to go back up there. So I do hope we'll hear something tomorrow. The surgeon seemed pretty confident that this should be the only trip we needed to make, but we never saw him afterwards and I know he wouldn't know right then.

Leslie - DH was going to say something about 'getting hit in the face by me', but didn't really get the chance to, I guess.
Yes, the antibiotic seems to be working well on my cough! I'm glad about that!
How did your appointment go with the pulmonologist? You'll be busy with appointments the rest of this week. I hope all the appointments go well for you.
Is Guelph in Canada? I've never heard of it. And yes, the "Queen Suite" does sound pretty fancy! Sounds like a nice place.

Kate - I didn't realize Gloucester was that far away from Boston, so nice that everything will be close up there. I see what you mean about having to make a lot of turns just to get to a place. Lots of roads!!
I'm curious, too as to what color of dress you might be thinking of? And what color are the bridesmaids dresses going to be? Have those been picked out already? And will DGS be wearing a tux? What color are those going to be? At my niece's wedding this past summer, the guys wore navy blue tuxes, but then they were all given brown shoes to wear. My thought would have been black. The girls dresses were purple (those were the 2 colors throughout the wedding venue).

Happy Thursday!

emoticon

Mema - thanks for the photo of your DH. Was he teased at all about your Irish temper when the other people saw him? I hope he continues to heal well.
I'm very glad you saw your doctor about the cough. I hope the antibiotic is just what you've needed. Have you noticed any improvement yet?
I hope you and your friend enjoy the fair at the clubhouse today. Let me know about what 'goodies' were being offered!
I'm very happy to hear that your DS is taking the diagnosis seriously, and that he's seeing a nutritionist today. He should get lots of good info there. I'm glad he and his DW will be doing meal planning together, so that when one of them does the ordering of groceries, they'll be getting good foods.
Yes, my housekeeper was here yesterday. She didn't talk my ear off this time, as she did the previous time, but we did keep up a steady conversation as we usually do. Thankfully, I wasn't totally exhausted when she left, and made it to the exercise class this morning.
The dinner your DH made sounded excellent!

This afternoon I'll finally be seeing the pulmonologist. The appointment isn't until 4 PM. I much prefer morning appointments, but the referral for this one was sent November 13th, so I was not in a position to request a different time! I'm curious about what he will say.
Tomorrow I'll be seeing the dentist, also in the afternoon, but a little earlier, and Friday I'll see my doctor about my still swollen leg.

Kate - Interesting to see the map of Gloucester. Is that very far from where you live? I'm glad the places you'll need to be are fairly close together, although the driving does sound a little complicated!
Some of my friends have really loved the book that was a disappointment for me. I was reading some reviews on Goodreads, and the majority were giving it 5 stars, but there were quite a few who shared my opinion too. I did give it 3 stars, only because the nature writing was excellent. I don't mind some romance as part of a story, but it's not a genre I really care for. I like mysteries, but my favourites seem to go under the heading Literary Fiction, usually a sort of 'slice-of-life' story. I do like stories that have or could have actually happened.
I don't mind cooking when I know it will produce leftovers for another day or two - I don't like having to cook something different every day. Last night I cooked a chicken breast, a yam, and a bunch of broccoli, and now I'll have leftovers for tonight and tomorrow which is good since I'll be out both afternoons.
Have you thought what colour you want your dress for the wedding to be? When my DS got married, I truly could not afford a new dress and wore a pale aqua knee length 2-piece dress that I had worn to his graduation. The mother of the bride was in a long black slim dress. I felt underdressed, but there wasn't a choice.

My DS has booked rooms for us at a B&B in Guelph for the one night I'll be seeing him and his family in April. I will be in something called the Queen Suite, which is on the ground floor. I certainly don't need a suite, but it sounds very nice.

I hope you're both having good days!

Leslie – hope you had a good day w/ your housekeeper and got some reading time.

Mema – it’s called a Z-pac up here, too. Hope it makes a difference.

Glad your DS is taking the diagnosis seriously and is really interested in trying to change his eating habit. It’s not easy to do.

Have fun at the vendor fair. I like walking around fairs like that and seeing all the new ideas people have come up with. It’s more fun that shopping.

I’m glad things are close for the wedding b/c that town is ancient and the streets are a maze. From the church down to the restaurant is 0.4 miles and it’s a 5-6 minute drive with 6 or 7 turns.

Bible study went well at church, but I had to leave a few minutes early to pick up DH for my doctor appointment. My doctor said my lungs sounded fine, she wanted to try an antibiotic first before trying anything else. It's Azithromycin - 6 pills. I took 2 today and then take 1 for the next 4 days. People down here also refer to it as a Z-pac.

DH made dinner tonight. Pork ribs, potatoes and carrots in the Crock-Pot. It was very good!

And DS called me tonight! He was on his way to go fishing up in Northern MN at Mille Lacs lake. He was meeting a friend up at the friends "ice castle" to help him get it ready for another friend and his kids for this weekend. DS has tomorrow off so if he gets home late, he doesn't have to go to work. He does; however have an appointment with a nutritionist tomorrow. We talked about the questions he wants to ask her. He really doesn't know much about eating healthy. It does seem like he's taking this pretty seriously, which I'm glad about.

Tomorrow I'll go with my friend to the vendor fair up at the clubhouse.

Leslie - not sure if this was your housekeeper day or if you had an appointment. Either way, hope you had a good day!

Kate - the rehearsal dinner at the restaurant on the harbor sounds wonderful! I love being somewhere close to water. I loved going to South Padre Island just this past Dec and eating outside right next to the water. I liked your map, too. Looks like everything will be pretty close so not too much driving around.
I also get a bit tired of figuring out meals, but DH is good about suggesting something when I ask.
When I was talking with my DS tonight I mentioned about he and DW figuring out the groceries and he said they are going to work on basically incorporating his eating habits into meals they can all eat, so that sounded encouraging.
Did you get all your errands finished?
What did you decide about Santa's face?

Have a great day!

Leslie – so sorry your stomach acted up and you had to miss your exercise class. I’m glad you were well enough to get some things done around the house during that time.

How disappointing that the long awaited book is not that great. I do like romance and fantasy but my true love is mysteries. I know a few authors who include a bit of romance or fantasy into a mystery and those are just my style.

The rehearsal dinner will be in a restaurant right on the harbor just down the hill from the church. The wedding reception will be in a dedicated venue – all they do is big functions like weddings. And the hotel we’ll all stay at is owned by the same company as the reception venue.

Here's a map of the seaside town where the wedding will be. The church is up on a hill, the reception is up to the top right and the hotel on the lower left. The restaurant where well have the rehearsal dinner is right along the same street between the two - a bit closer to the hotel than the venue.

Mema – it sounds like you’re settling into your routine now w/ leading Bible Study and sharing the Zumba teaching.

I find planning meals to be quite a chore. I can never think what to cook. And my DH doesn’t help w/ that unless I ask him – and sometimes it’s like pulling teeth to get him to think of meals. Perhaps your DS can make a regular time to sit down and help his wife plan out a menu for the week and put together a shopping list so the right ingredients will be on hand each night.

Nice to have someone along on a doctor’s appointment that can ask pertinent question. Hope it goes well and the doctor is able to give you something else to quiet the cough.

That’s quite a big incision on your DH’s forehead. I can understand all the swelling. LOL on his telling his friends about your “Irish temper”. Hope he doesn’t tell them you threw something at him.

The dress for the wedding will be long and formal. DF’s mom has hers already. And we’re all wearing flat shoes which I’m so grateful to know. I don’t like heels – they make my feet hurt after an hour or two and I don’t want to have sore feet at the wedding.

Yesterday was a quiet day home w/ the dogs. I did run out to look for new swim suits for DGS but ended up ordering them on line when I got home. He needs more than one for camp in the summer b/c he will be swimming every day.

DH says he needs to be up in the company office two days this week so I’ll be doing my errands on foot this morning and then knitting the stocking this afternoon. I’m a bit uncertain about the yarn I have for Santa’s face. I may need to undo a few rows and choose a lighter pink for the face.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

Bible study went well this morning - it was weird being the leader once again. It's been 2 or 3 years??? It's nice that now I don't have to worry about next week! I think I will like this switching every week.

There were 6 of us at Zumba today! Nice. My DH will go to his meeting tonight and I'm going to steam the tile floors while he's gone.

Tomorrow I'll go to Bible study at church, come home and pick up DH and go to the doctor for my cough. I like to bring him along because down here, there's a tendency to run tests that aren't necessarily needed and he's better at asking why than me in that type of situation. I do think she (my doctor) might want a chest x-ray, but that will be OK. I've been taking 400 mg. of ibuprofen every 4 hours and that has seemed to help, but if I go beyond that, then my cough seems to come back. It seemed like it was getting better and I backed off the ibuprofen, but then it seemed to come back again.

Leslie - My DH did take his bandage off and I was surprised that it looked as good as it did. I was expecting the worst! The doctor did have to put in a small skin graft. It's called a graft flap - basically he cut extra skin on his forehead to "flap" over where the deep excision was taken. That's the gray looking spot. I did take a picture - he wanted to show his kids. The incision is about 2 1/2 inches long. He said that last week at his meeting something came up about my "Irish" temper and DH kiddingly said something about me punching him - now he said tonight he'll have some "explaining" to do! He didn't tell them last week he was going for this surgery! LOL

You can see where the fluid is under his eye - he's been putting ice on that and eventually it will be absorbed into his body.
I was off on the vendor fair having food - that was Taste of the Valley that had all the food. I guess this one will be businesses, but they do give away little "goodies" - like can coolers, etc. I haven't gone to this before, so I will let you know how it is.
My DH loves the late 50's and 60's music - but he's a drummer, and that was the kind of music his band played. I like it, too - I was just too young at that time. Born in 1960 - but listened to some of that in the 70's.
I'm hoping to talk with my DS this week to see how he's doing with the medication, food and exercise. He does know how to cook pretty well, he's just never really done the shopping and now, DIL does most of it from her phone and then goes and picks it up. I'm going to stress how important this is for his kids - they're not overweight, but more and more children are being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes from ages 10-18!! That is so sad!
Sorry your stomach was acting up, but at least you got something done - like you said it was not all lost!
That's too bad that after waiting so long for your book, that it's just not as good as you hoped.

Kate - You're right that both my DS and DIL work - she has more "regular" hours. He goes in very early but doesn't get home until about 6:00 or 6:30, so she does most of the cooking. She's home by 5:00. She's not a meal planner, though. That's why they end up going out so much. When I went up for Christmas, she knew I was going to be there for dinner that Monday. My DS was picking me up and we both would be there in time. When we got there, she said - Well, I forgot to plan something for supper! That just kind of boggles my mind.
When you do go dress shopping, do you think you are going to look for something long or short? I ended up with a fancy short dress for my DS's wedding - but my shoes were what I really liked. They were a bronze color and covered in bronze sequins! They were so cool! I loved them! They did have a 3.5" heel, which I hadn't worn in a long time!
That will be a big wedding for sure. Even the rehearsal dinner is going to be large! When you have to include spouses, the numbers just add up!

Time for me to get dinner started! Have a wonderful day!

Mema - I hope the Bible study is going well today!
Has your DH taken off the bandage yet? Heads are indeed very vascular, so I'm not surprised about the bruising and possible black eye. I hope no one gets the impression that it was caused by you! Ha. emoticon
You'll have a busy day again with Zumba this afternoon. I hope all your 'regulars' will be there today.
That Vendor Fair sounds very interesting. Are the food samples all from packaged foods? I'll be looking forward to hearing some examples of things you're able to taste there.
I know what you mean about the current 'crop' of music. I am definitely too old for it. The radio station I listen to plays music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. For me, they could leave off the 90s, and include the 60s, and even the late 50s. (Buddy Holly was one of my favourites!)
I'm glad you also liked Molly's Game. I think the premise for Designated Survivor is amazing!
I agree with Kate about the idea that your DS will need to play a bigger role in the shopping and meal prep. He really does need to take this seriously.

Kate - I understand putting off buying a dress until you lose the weight you want. I hope it won't take too long to lose it so you aren't in a panic at the last minute.
I've had cellulitis in the past. I'm not sure if that's what this is. I am glad I'll get in to see the doctor this week.
I'm glad your DGS will have another year of camp after this one. I hope something else will pop up for him to do after that!
That will be a big wedding! And the rehearsal dinner will be big too! Is the function room for that dinner in a hotel? You may have said, but I've forgotten if you did.

I was all set to go to the exercise class this morning - had my name card (with medical info) and glasses on and was about to head out the door with my walker, oxygen, and water bottle, when my stomach started misbehaving so I ended up missing the class. I did get a couple of chores done during that time, so all was not lost!

Now I'm disappointed in that book. I haven't finished it yet, but although the descriptions of nature are wonderful, the story itself is just too unbelievable and it all seems very predictable. Romance is really not my genre! And neither is fantasy! Oh well, I'll finish it, probably today or tomorrow, and it will be able to be returned to the library with my next batch of books to go back, which is much earlier that it's due, and the next person on the waiting list can have it.

I hope you're both having good days!

Mema – sounds like a day of rest is just what you needed.

I expect the doctor was right about all those blood vessels in the face and scalp making bleeding and bruising more likely.

The Vendor Fair sounds like fun – although not something a food addict like myself should attend. The wedding venue food tasting is going to be enough of a challenge.

As far as your DS goes, he may need to take on more of the responsibility for food buying and prep if he wants to make the necessary changes. They’re both working right? And it does seem that the women mostly get stuck w/ the food prep kind of by default even when it’s something a man could do just as well.

I haven’t gone dress shopping yet for the wedding. I put on about 10 pounds over the fall months and I’d like to take that back off before I look for a dress. It really makes a difference in how things fit.

Leslie – good that you have an appointment w/ your doctor about the leg swelling. Glad it’s not oozing anymore. I once got cellulitis from poison ivy and had swelling an oozing on my leg – really an awful feeling.

Glad you had a good day of rest after your busy week. And you’ll have a busy week again w/ your dentist and doctor appointments.

I watched the first few weeks of Designated Survivor and then switched to watching a different show. I should go back and watch the other episodes. It seemed like a good show.

The camp has two levels – kids going into K-2 and kids going into grade 3-5. He’s in the older group for the second year. Next year is the last year he’ll be eligible for the camp so I’m not sure what we’ll do after that.

The wedding will have a bit more than 200 people. The rehearsal dinner will have about 40-50 with all the attendants, their spouses, both families and out of town family guests. That’s why we need a function room instead of just going to a regular restaurant.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

I really did have a "day of rest" today. But I did work on my Bible study for tomorrow. It's my turn to lead. We'll still meet at my friends house.

DH did wake up with a swollen eye - he told me when he looked in the mirror and saw his eye, he knew I was right! He did put ice on it, and it's helped a little. Tomorrow he's going to take off the bandage. He could have today, but he felt it would be better to leave it one more day. It's looking like he's getting a black eye - there is some bruising on his eyelid and around. I will be curious to see what it looks like when he takes the bandage off.

I also have Zumba tomorrow afternoon. I got a call from my neighbor (the one's we had over last week). She wanted me to go up to the clubhouse on Wed. to a Vendor Fair. Basically, there are all kinds of vendors (mainly food) offering free samples. We went several years ago - although our husband's did not like it at all. There was too much standing. So this year, it will be just me and my friend, Debi. It should be fun. Zumba will be cancelled that day since it's from 2p-4p and Zumba's at 3p.

I'm actually watching the Grammy's while I'm posting this. I'm typing during the commercials. I do like to watch the performances. Some of the music, though is really weird! Must be that I'm getting old! LOL

Leslie - My DH didn't even dress himself when he was in recovery - once they woke him up, the nurse started dressing him!
I saw Molly's Game, too. I thought it was very good! And I started watching Designated Survivor when it first came on TV, but then for some reason I stopped. Maybe I had so many shows I was already watching, that I didn't need another one. But now that we have a Hulu subscription, I can see all my shows the very next day or whenever I want to watch them if I miss them on the night they're on.
So sorry to hear that both of your legs are swollen, I do hope when you see your doctor they can figure it out for you.

Kate - It would have been nice if DH would have had the time so he could dress himself like your DS. Oh, well - it's over and done.
I know what you mean about my DS's wife taking the diabetes diagnosis seriously - unfortunately, she's the one who does all the grocery shopping and wants to get fast food often. But I hope DS insists - since it's for his (and the whole family's) health.
Glad the restaurant for the rehearsal dinner seems good!
Beautiful church! Thanks for posting the pictures. Do you have your dress yet?

Have a good day!

Mema - it's good to hear from you - welcome back!
That does seem like an awful rush to get your DS out after the surgery! I'm sorry he's had some bleeding. Does he have bruising today? Even if you don't have to go back to get stitches out, it wouldn't hurt to get in to see your own doctor just for reassurance that all is well. I hope that the report you'll get this week will be good!
I'm very sorry to hear your DS has type 2 diabetes, but it's true that he could reverse that by eating very well. It sounds as if the whole family could use some improvement in their diets, and maybe that would help to keep his DW and kids from also getting diabetes.
I'm sorry the traffic was so awful in San Antonio. I didn't realize how big it is!
I don't blame you for skipping church this morning. You've had a stressful few days.
Good idea to see your doctor about your cough. A chest X-ray might be in order. I'm sorry the cough has lingered so long.
That Mongolian grill sounds like a great experience! I would like to try that. I'm glad it was close to your hotel.
My leg is still swollen - they both are actually. I'll be glad to see my doctor on Friday. The left leg is still sore, but at least the leaking stopped. You're right - when it rains it pours!
Yes I'm about 1/4 of the way through that book where they moved me up to first place on the waiting list. I am really enjoying it.
I watched a good movie last night - Molly's Game about a woman who took over a high stakes poker game and became addicted to alcohol and drugs. Jessica Chastain was Molly; Kevin Costner was her father, and Idris Elba was her attorney. It's apparently a true story.
And I'm watching a good series: Designated Survivor with Kiefer Sutherland.

Kate - Sorry your DS was also rushed out of the hospital following his surgery. It has happened to me too.
I'm glad DF didn't consider strapless gowns, and good for her for covering up a bit more of the cleavage. I know what you mean about some trashy looking wedding dresses.
I did have a lovely day of rest yesterday, thanks. I have done a little more today, but I still took time to do a bit of reading earlier because I've been up for many hours already.
DGS's camp does sound good. I hope he'll enjoy it again this year. Is it divided into different age groups, or just one group for all? Too bad he wasn't able to use the iPad yesterday, but he obviously survived the ordeal of being bored!
I'm glad you like the room for the rehearsal dinner, and it's great that you can choose the menus. How many will be at the rehearsal dinner and at the wedding?
The church does look very nice. I'm glad your DGS will be taking part as ring bearer, and how sweet that there will be a flower girl - she may need some help up the aisle.

I hope you're both having good days!

Mema – that’s good news about the surgery. Hope the tissue results are good, too.

They certainly do rush you out after day surgery. I remember when I flew out to take care of my DS after his tonsillectomy. I arrived at the recovery room just as he was regaining consciousness and we were out of there as soon as he could get up and dressed.

Hope you can get your cough treated – although my experience w/ that is you just have to wait it out.

Sorry to hear about your DS’s diagnosis. I do hope he takes is seriously and changes his life style. I guess he needs his wife to take it seriously, too.

Leslie – DF didn’t even look at strapless gowns and she’s having them take a bit of fabric to fill in the space in the cleavage a bit more, too. Nice to see some modesty in a bride. Some of the wedding dresses I’ve seen on TV are so trashy looking.

Hope you had a lovely day of rest yesterday.

DGS will be at the same camp as the last 3 years. He is in the science and engineering track so they rotate through each week with a different theme like outer space, weather, animals, etc. And they swim every day and have gym or outdoor games, too.

Yesterday DH had forgotten to charge up the iPad so DGS just had to be bored w/ all the adult conversation at the restaurant. We had a lovely lunch there after we met w/ the catering woman. The function room is lovely and they are very accommodating to allow us to tailor the menus to our choices. I'm still feeling a bit out of my depth planning such a big dinner. Their rehearsal dinner is going to be about the size of my wedding.

We stopped by to see the nearby church where the ceremony will be. It’s a lovely place. The wedding is Friday, June 12th. DGS will be the ring bearer and DF’s niece will be the flower girl. She’s very young so I’m not sure how well that will go.

We're back!! Good to be home. The surgery went fine - the doctor actually thought the area was so small that it should not be any problem going forward. He's pretty certain he took enough tissue. But they will call next week sometime with results once the tissue is tested.

I'm used to Minneapolis traffic, but boy, oh boy is San Antonio traffic busy!! I guess it's like 3x the size of Mpls. and we were in the heart of it, just on the NW side. Luckily, when I had to drive us back to the hotel on Thursday, it was about 11:30 and we had back roads we could take, so it was not a problem.

One thing they did, which I wasn't too comfortable with. Steve went in to surgery at 10:10 am. They said it would take about 45 mins. and then they would come and get me and bring me to recovery. They came and got me about 11:00 am and by 11:25, we were in the car! When I first walked into the recovery room and saw Steve, he was OUT like a light! The nurse had a hard time waking him up, but once he was awake, they started dressing him and got a wheelchair, gave him a bottle of apple juice and we were gone! I thought that was a bit rushed. When we got back, Steve rested and slept off and on for a good 3+ hours. When he got up, he didn't do much of anything, but about 5 pm, he started bleeding underneath his bandage. We were told if it were to start bleeding, to put gauze over it and keep pressure on it for 20 mins. minimum. If that didn't stop it, try again. DH did do that - and had to do it twice. I know there is still blood beneath the bandage, it had stopped bleeding, but we are not to take that off until tomorrow. And tonight at dinner, I noticed that around the outside of his eye, he's getting black and blue and it's swelling. I think that's the blood settling underneath the skin. I told him I thought he might not be able to open his eye tomorrow. He thought that was silly - we'll see. They did say he might get bruising around his eye because the head itself is very vascular and with the surgery, it may bruise. But I don't know if getting him up right away didn't give his body enough time to like "settle down" and stabilize or what. He's got dissolving stitches, so he doesn't even have to go back to the dr. down here for removal. I hope it looks better tomorrow. He ended up driving us home today since it had been 24 hours since his surgery and that's what he was told. I know he was fine for that or otherwise I would have insisted on driving. Today, San Antonio was not nearly as busy as during the week.

I'm skipping church tomorrow even though I could go. I'm pretty tired just from all the stress of the last 3 days.

I also made an appointment for myself for Tuesday with my doctor about my cough - it's just not going away and maybe she can give me something stronger or see if there's something else going on!

Oh, and I don't think I told you, I got a call from DS on Tuesday, he was at the doctor for one thing and found out he has Type 2 diabetes! He was pretty bummed out over it - he's only 36, which is pretty young. But I told him it's very manageable and the doctor even told him if he starts eating better and exercising, he could possibly get off the medication he put him on. Actually, I think of this as a good wake-up call for the whole family. Their kids (my grand kids) are terrible eaters and eat a ton of sugary foods every day. It's going to be a whole lifestyle change for the family - if he takes this seriously - which I hope he does!

Leslie - We ended up eating at HuHot Mongolian Grill - it was an all you can eat place, but it's the kind of place where you fill your bowl(s) with frozen meat, fresh veggies and then make your own concoction of sauce from about 10 different flavors and then give it to a cook who puts it on this huge round flat "grill" and cooks it up for you. They can put 5-6 people's food on this thing at once. I've eaten at a place like this in MN several years ago and I loved it! This was very good, too. The all you can eat came with a salad and white rice. And it was less than a mile from our hotel!
So sorry to hear you broke another tooth, but glad you can get in pretty quickly. And how is your leg? Glad you've got that appointment, too! When it rains, it pours, huh?
I'm glad you had more of a restful day today! Next week will be very busy for you.
Were you able to start on your book? Is that the one where they moved you up on the list or a different book?

Kate - Love the photo's of the dress! The bodice sounds beautiful and I love the bottom with the points! Thank you for sharing those!
That t-shirt your DS and DF got your DGS does sound very cute! That is wonderful they are having him be the ring bearer - do they have a flower girl, too? Is the wedding in April? For some reason that seems to ring a bell.
Does sound like you'll be busy getting your 2 bedrooms finished, but won't it be nice to have them all "new"? LOL
Are you going to be doing something special on your vacation to NH? Nice that you will be bringing your DGS with you.

I think I will relax now and watch some TV. I made a frozen pizza for dinner tonight - quick and easy. We always get DiGiorno supreme.

Have a great day!

Good morning!

Lovely photos, Kate! I'm happy to see a bodice with straps. I don't think strapless gowns are very flattering for most people. DF looks really pretty in that dress! Thanks for posting them.

That does sound like a lot of work for those two rooms! I have forgotten when the wedding will be. I hope you can get all that work done in time. Do you know who will be staying with you?

Thanks for the tip on another tea to look for! It sounds good. I did get the Constant Comment in time for my cup of tea yesterday. I couldn't believe the huge amount of bubble wrap it came in! I also drink Twining's Lemon & Ginger, and chai tea. It's wonderful to have a variety!

I'm sorry your DGS may be bored today as you check out the room for the rehearsal dinner. I'm sure the iPad would make him happy!

Will DGS be at the same summer camp this year? Will there be any new activities that you know of? I hope they won't have snow days to make up at the end of school this year! Where in NH do you go for vacation? I used to visit my first husband in Durham where he taught at UNH and I was still a student nurse in Montreal.

This is finally a day in which I have no appointments, and no phone calls I must make! I will be trying to catch up online, and reading of course. I'll finally start the book I waited for since August!

Mema - I hope all is well following the surgery, and you have a safe drive home today.

I hope the day is good for you both.

Mema – hoping all went well and you get a good report on the histology.

Leslie – we always used to drink Constant Comment tea but have switched to a spicy herbal tea instead. Celestial Seasonings “Bengal Spice”.

We’ll be having the rooms re-painted and papered. They’re both were done about 30 years ago and show the wear and tear. Plus, one of them was my DD’s bedroom and she did a lot of “decorating” of the doors. And then I need to buy new beds for one and a new mattress for the other. And bedding as well.

They’re not the best photos - my phone is not great at photos but it will give you an idea. The design on the bodice is all made of flat white sequins. The second photo shows the bottom hem w/ it’s points. The veil has the same edging as the layers on the skirt although you can’t see much of it.

Today we’ll meet up w/ DS and DF to check out the restaurant function room where we’ll have the rehearsal dinner. We’ll have DGS with us so he’ll be a bit bored but that’s OK. Maybe DH will bring the iPad along?

Yesterday I signed DGS up for summer camp. I realized that there will be a week between the end of school and the start of camp so we booked a week of vacation in NH. Of course, if they get a lot of snow days they will have make-up days that week. Hope not. I remember one year, he finished school in the middle of our vacation week so we drove back home to pick him up and he spent the second half the week on vacation with us.

In the evening, I suddenly realized that vacation will be after the wedding. I’ve been thinking of the wedding as being far in the future for so long.

Mema - thinking of you and DH.

Kate - I'm looking forward to seeing the wedding dress when you are able to post a photo. I'm glad she'll be able to dance, and sit too! Both are important activities on the wedding day!

That was very nice of your DS and DF to ask DGS to be the ring bearer, and that shirt sounds like a great idea!

It sounds like things are moving along. I hope you'll all like the place for the rehearsal dinner. And the food tasting next weekend sounds wonderful. Will there be a lot of work involved to get your bedrooms ready for guests?

I hope your MOPS meeting is/was good today! Did you need to take food or anything today?

I got to the bank this morning and got my papers all set for Housing. I can stick them in an envelope and put them through the mail slot downstairs. After I got home, I called in my grocery order so I won't have to worry about that next week. It's a small order this time, so shouldn't be too pricey. emoticon

I ordered Constant Comment tea online because I can't get it from the store and I've received an email that it's on the truck for delivery today. They sent an email yesterday to say it would come today - I was a little afraid that it would arrive when I was out this morning, but now I'm not going anywhere. I hope it might be here in time for my tea this afternoon.

I hope all is well with both of you!

Mema – praying that all goes well today w/ the surgery.

Leslie – glad the tooth wasn’t sensitive w/o it’s crown – but OH DEAR! another tooth broken.

Sorry that your leg is causing more problems, too. Good that you were able to get an earlier appointment due to a cancellation. It does sound like next week is going to be a marathon of appointments.

I still have to pull the photos from my phone and see if I got a good one of the wedding dress. It’s quite pretty and a bit out of the ordinary. And DF says the best thing is she can dance and she can sit down in it. LOL

I forgot to mention that DS and DF got DGS a special t-shirt for Christmas that says “Ring Security” to ask him to be the ring bearer.

They’re in the second round of planning for the wedding. This weekend we’re going with them to check out the place for the rehearsal dinner. Next weekend we’ll join the bride’s parents for a food tasting for the wedding. The end of February is the Bridal shower. And I have a couple bedrooms that need to be done over to accommodate out of town wedding guests.

Today I have my meeting of MOPS - where I'm one of the facilitators . I missed the first meeting this month b/c we had my grandson with us still.

Mema - I guess you are on your way to San Antonio for your DH's surgery tomorrow. I hope you have a safe trip, going both ways, and I hope all goes well with the surgery! I hope you like the hotel too.
Fortunately, my tooth wasn't sensitive without the crown. It was glued back in place on Tuesday, then yesterday I was sucking on a Hall's cough drop because the dentist told me to stop chewing gum (which I've been doing since I stopped smoking). Anyway, I happened to bite down on the cough drop and broke another tooth! I should have waited to see my dentist - he could have repaired both things at one appointment. Oh well, I'll see him next Thursday.
You sound very organized, as usual! I'm glad you're taking food along with you.

Kate - That is funny about the couples where both people were named Chris. It made me think of my DS's cousin Aaron who married a woman named Erin!
I'm so glad you had a good lunch with DF's mother! I also appreciate chatty people since I can be quite shy at times. How nice that you were also invited to the dress fitting!
I'm glad the guy was coming to fix your bed. That sounds quite luxurious - no wonder you can enjoy your morning coffee in bed!

I was exhausted yesterday! I was too angry about the broken tooth yesterday to call for another appointment. On Tuesday I not only went to the dentist in the afternoon, but spent a good chunk of the morning at the ER. My left leg was more swollen, discoloured, and leaking clear fluid. They ruled out a clot and said to follow up with my doctor.
I started trying to get an appointment for that yesterday online, but the first 2 dates I was given were the only 2 dates in February that I couldn't go. I continued this morning and have an appointment for next Friday because there was a cancellation.
I've also called the dentist today, and then I had to arrange for buses for both of those days next week.
I'll be out at appointments Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday next week, and my housekeeper will be here Tuesday, so it will be a busy week for me!
I also need to get appointments soon for my haircut and pedicure. Everything seems to happen at once!
And I'll need to order groceries next week too - not sure what day to do that. I don't get paid until next Wednesday, but I'll be out every day from then to the end of the week, so might not be home for the delivery, or I wouldn't be able to order early enough. They do have delivery on Saturday, but they have come as late as 9 PM that day, which is past my bedtime...

Sorry this is all about me, me... I'm not used to having so many busy days in a row.
I hope your days, and your drive, are going well!

Mema – safe traveling! I’ll say a prayer that the surgery goes well and the margins are clear.

The lunch went well. I’m about 3 yrs. older than DF’s mom. (Her name is Katherine, too, but she goes by Kathi) She’s quite chatty – which is nice b/c I never have to figure out what to talk about. She's also a woman of strong Christian faith but they're Catholic so the vocabulary is different.

I had seen the dress when DF went for the first round of dress trials but at that time, it wasn’t one of the top picks. She went back again for a second round w/ just her mom and decided that it was the right one. I’ll see if one of my photos came out well enough to post.

The bed frame is attached to the raising and lowering mechanisms but it also has hinges at the hip level and knee level where it bends as it’s raised and lowered. They were just heavy plastic hinges and had started to break after years of use. The bed would still go up and down b/c the motorized parts were still attached well but I was careful to get out of the bed before I changed the position so I wasn’t putting any stress on the hinges so the pieces stayed in the right position. When my DH’s hinges broke, the whole top part of the frame slipped about 3 inches out of position when it raised. He had to put it down and leave it flat until the man came out to fix it.

Leslie – Hi. Hope you got a good night’s sleep and are feeling more rested after you busy days.

It's going to look like we're leaving for a week! Especially because we're taking groceries with us, but it will be good to have those things there. And I know I've packed more than we will probably eat, but we can always bring it home.

I also did my ironing and some more packing. Most of the packing will have to get done in the morning.

We had a new gal at Zumba today! But there were only 6 of us altogether. Seems people come in and out. I suppose sometimes it's hard to commit to 3x/week. Anyway, it was fun.

Leslie - I'm sorry you were rather worn out today. Hopefully you got rested up! And it sounds as if everything went well at the dentist????? Hope so anyway.

Kate - How was your lunch? My DIL's mom wanted to get together with me while I was up in MN, but it just never seemed to work out. She was going to drive over, but the holidays being in the middle of the week, kind of screwed things up. It is nice to get to know "the other side" better. Are you close to the same age? My DIL's mom and I are either exactly the same or just one year apart.
Had you seen the wedding dress DF had picked out? Or was this going to be your first time seeing her in it? It's wonderful that she is including you!
Did you get your bed hinges adjusted? Were you having trouble getting it to go up and down or was it making noise when you tried to adjust it?

I'll try and let you know how the surgery goes on Friday - We're supposed to be there at 9:00 am, surgery at 10:00 am, be done in about an hour and a half, then recovery. They said total would be about 5 hours.

Have a wonderful day!

Mema – yes, that’s the song. It is lovely isn’t it.

Hope all goes well today for you to get all the last minute things done for your trip tomorrow.

Good to plan to be there early and do a “dry run”. It’s always nice to figure out where you’re going when you’re not stressed about the arrival time.

Leslie – how are you after your busy day? Was the dentist able to reinstall the crown?

Today I’m headed out to meet DF’s mother for lunch. I figured it would be good to get to know her and form some stronger connections since we going to be “family” and we live so close together. Our parents lived half way cross the country from each other and rarely saw each other. DF’s wedding dress has arrived and she has the first fitting this afternoon so she invited me to come and see the finished dress. It worked out so well that we would already be together before the fitting. I’m so happy that DF is including me in all these events.

Meanwhile, our adjustable bed frame has needed some repair of the hinges for months. The repair guy had just had knee surgery when I called him last fall so he’s finally able to get up and down to do the work. And today is the first day he can come. When he came and repaired DH’s side of the bed a year ago, I wasn’t home and the same thing is happening this time. LOL.

We had a good Bible study at church today and then I did my errands. Got back home about 1:00 and finished my laundry. I have a little bit of ironing to do, I'll probably do that tomorrow. And I have Zumba one more time before we leave. I'll have to finish my packing tomorrow as well. I think we're looking to leave around 10:00 on Thursday. That will put us up there by 3:00 so plenty of time to check in and get settled and then get something to eat and also take a "dry run" up to the Cancer Center. I probably won't post Thur/Fri and depending on when we get home on Saturday, I may be pretty tired out from driving. But I'll be able to post on Sunday.

Kate - I clicked on the youtube link and it was playing the song "I Choose Love" with the sheet music on the screen. Is that correct? It is a beautiful song - I love the melody (and the lyrics). Seems like it was very appropriate for MLK Day. And if that is the song, probably good because it did seem like a simple song, but again, beautiful melody.

Leslie - I hope everything went well for your dental appointment and all your arrangements for transportation. I'm sure you were glad to get back home.

Have a great day!

Leslie - LOL on the aunt and uncle both named Leslie. I have known two couples where both of them were “Chris”. In both cases the wife started using her full name Christine just to avoid confusion.

Sorry about your tooth. Hope the dentist can re-install it w/o any further work. Sounds like your day is going to be busy tomorrow, too.

Mema – nice that you had a bigger turn out for Zumba.

The Bible Study sounds good. I remember doing a different one a long time ago that was also focused on all the women in the Bible.

The singing turned out quite well. The director had chosen a fairly simple song since the people from different churches only had one rehearsal session together. This is the song they sang. I know that Youtube links don’t always work here on SP so you may need to copy and paste the link if you want to hear it.

I got all the things done I needed to. Went to Bible study, DH and I got our pictures taken and we had 7 at Zumba this afternoon!

I'm going to start on some laundry tonight while DH is at his meeting. I may have to finish tomorrow, but I do need to get it done.

Tomorrow morning I'll go to Bible study at church, then I need to run some errands and pick up some things for our trip up to San Antonio. I may skip my meeting.

Oh, and I watched the 9-1-1 Lone Star show last night, but I think I will take a pass on it. Just not as good as the first 9-1-1. It seems like so many shows now have to have a gay couple on (men) and this one did as well and also had a transgender man. And it's not that I'm against that, but I just don't need it in every show I watch, you know? And I didn't think the chemistry between Rob Lowe and Live Tyler was very good. I like both of them, but it just didn't work for me. I don't really need another show to watch anyway! LOL

Leslie - My DH would be open to me helping him and we have done that in the past, but right now he's working on it alone mainly because he just "dumped" all the stuff in the garage and he's running out of room out there! I tend to let him keep piling up stuff in "his" spaces until he can't stand it anymore! LOL My house is in good shape right now, so I'm happy to let him contend with his stuff out in the garage.
The book we are using in Bible study right now is called "Golden Fruit" - living the fruit of the Spirit through the best times of your life. It is specifically a woman's small group Bible study. We ordered the books thru Amazon. And each chapter focuses on one of the women of the Bible. The chapters are like this - The Love of Ruth, The Joy of Elizabeth, The Peace of Hannah and so on. It's been a good study. Now this next week is my week.
I'm so sorry to hear about your tooth. Is it sensitive w/out the crown? I know my DH had that happen to him and he had to be careful eating because of the pain. I'm glad you are able to get in tomorrow. You did have a busy morning making all the arrangements for the appointment and getting the Rx as well. I hope it will all get finished for you tomorrow and you don't have to go back.

Kate - Yes, it was good that we had Zumba after pictures - I'm usually a sweaty mess afterwards.
Your pork chop dinner does sound very good! We're having chicken leg quarters baked in the oven with left over salad from last night. My DH bought a Spring mix salad and there was quite a bit more in there than we expected.
How did all the singing go for MLK day? Sounds like it would be a fun event.
Do you know if your DD and DGS did anything special on their day off?
I hope the DF's new job works out for her. Nice that she will be able to work from home more often.

Enjoy your day!

Mema - I'm sorry the vote at church was to support the new pastor, even with your fairly small congregation. It's surprising that so many people voted for that choice. I guess the new pastor will have to get a different visa in order to get paid for what he does.
I'm glad your DH got his 'things' out of the living room. Would he allow you to help him decide what to do with the things?
It sounds as if you had a good time visiting with your friends.
Today does sound busy for you with the Bible study, photos, and Zumba! I know that would be too much for me in one day. What books are you using for the Bible study?
My sister's first husband had a brother named Leslie (also called Les) so their kids have both an Uncle Leslie and an Aunt Leslie! I have a friend with a daughter named Tara too.

Kate - Wasn't John Wayne's original name Marion? There are, or were, also male Beverly's and Evelyn's which always seemed like women's names to me!
The meal you had for the birthday lunch sounded very good! The pork chop I cooked over the weekend was also breaded with half and half bread crumbs and Parmesan. I gather yours was all Parmesan - that sounds tasty! I can't imagine eating more than one pork chop at a meal.
We are getting very cold weather too (0 F this morning) but it will be warming up a bit over the next few days.
I'm glad you'll be observing the MLK holiday today by being present for the music and speeches. It's good that your DD can spend the day with your DGS.
I hope DF will enjoy her new job!

I had a crown or cap pop off a tooth yesterday and fortunately I did not swallow it, so I called the dentists' office today for an appointment. My dentist is all booked up this week but I can see one of his colleagues tomorrow to glue that back in place. Then I had to arrange for my new prescription to be sent to my pharmacy and for the Rx to be delivered this afternoon. Then I had to arrange for the bus to pick me up tomorrow - I'll have to go early, but that's fine; I can read while I wait. I am grateful I can get the bus rather than having to take a cab. Next I'll have to transfer money from one account to the one I can access with my debit card. Quite a flurry of activity! (I need the medication prior to all dental work - it's an antibiotic, to prevent infection in my bypass grafts.)
I had been at the exercise class this morning before I started the calls, and in the middle of them, my son called! I was also expecting my library volunteer to bring me 3 books from the library! She came after the calls, thank goodness. It was a busy morning for me.

I hope your days are going well.

Mema – that does seem to be a big load for a small congregation to carry. I guess your pastor has a different vision for the church than you have. And it seems that the majority of the congregation agrees with him. Our leadership team has spent the last year and a half working on our vision of what/where/how the church should grow and those plans are just starting to roll out this year.

Sounds like you’re going to have a busy day again today w/ the Bible study, photos and Zumba. Good thing the Zumba is after the photos.

Leslie – the only Leslie I knew was a girl so I was surprised the first time I heard it applied to a man. Like Marion – I think of that as a girl’s name.

Sorry you had to trash that salmon but it didn’t sound good.

For the birthday lunch I chose a regular dinner entrée since I wasn’t sure what I’d be able to eat at the Chinese buffet. I had parmesan crusted pork loin chops with mashed sweet potato and broccolini. It was quite nice. The pork had a sauce of dark cherries. I asked for a box and took one of the pork chops and half of the sweet potatoes home for lunch on Sunday.

We got about 4-5 inches of light fluffy snow and then it was relatively warm yesterday (low 40’s) which make the cleaning up easy. The rest of the week is forecast to be very cold and dry.

Today part of our church choir is joining w/ singers from other churches for the MLK day celebrations. We’ll be going over to the high school for music and speeches later this morning.

We usually have DGS here on holidays but DD said she thinks she has this one off so they are planning on having a day off together. That will be good for them both b/c she wasn’t able to spend much time at all w/ him on his birthday or at our little party on Saturday.

DF is starting her new job today working for her parents at their restaurant. She’ll be managing the catering department and working on the books. This week will be mostly training. We’re not sure what this will mean as far as the dogs are concerned. They’ve been coming to my house 4 days/week but it will probably be less b/c she will be working from home more often.

There was a lot of discussion again this morning at church regarding getting this new pastor. I think I asked the most questions. Everything this young man is going to do is focused on all Spanish speaking people and yet we're being told that this is not going to divide our church. "Down the road" we'll eventually have 2 services, but that's not our focus. It just seems to me that it is. He's starting a Spanish-speaking Bible study next month. And I'm not against the Hispanic population at all, but there is a HUGE Winter Texan population down here that he is completely ignoring and yet when we've seen a few new people, they have been Winter Texans. The vast majority of the Hispanic population down here is Catholic - it's like that has been bread into them for generations. Anyway, the vote passed to add this pastor to our budget and support him going to seminary as well as supporting him to live (he currently cannot get work because he doesn't have the right Visa). There were 33 ballots cast this morning - those were the voting members present at church - so that tells you how large (or rather how small) our church is and yet we now have 1 FT minister, 1 Deacon and now going to totally support another minister. Just doesn't make sense to me. But it's done and I hope it succeeds.

By the time we got home today it was after 12:00. Thankfully, I really didn't have much to do. My DH finally got all of his dad's "things" out of the living room! He still has not gone thru everything, but I told him this stuff had to be out of the living room. He just doesn't know what to do with stuff.

Our friends came over at 5:00 and we ate at 6:00 - it was great and we all had a really nice time visiting. I think they left about 7:30, so not too late.

I have Bible study in the morning. This is the first one of my women's group here at Alamo Country Club. We were supposed to start last week, but with the woman's husband passing away, we postponed it until tomorrow. Next week will be my week. I haven't even opened the book. We're finishing up a book from last winter. Then we'll have to decide what to do next.

DH and I are getting our pictures taken tomorrow at 1:00 for the directory here at Alamo Country Club. They are putting together a new directory - a paper directory as well as online. We haven't had our picture taken here in about 12-14 years! So we're definitely over due. Then I have Zumba at 3:00. I was going to try and do laundry tomorrow, but that may have to wait.

Leslie - Just recently, I found out a gentleman here in our club is named Leslie - everyone always called him Les and we all thought it was short for Lester. That is the first male Leslie I've ever met. I always felt Leslie was a woman's name. Sorry you got teased a lot because of it. I have heard of Leslie Howard - he was in Gone With the Wind - the very first movie I ever saw in a theater with my parents and it had an intermission! I was fascinated! And my sister named her daughter (Tara) after the plantation name in that movie.
I'm going to watch the new 9-1-1 Lone Star show - it's on tonight. I watch the other 9-1-1 show and I like that. This one has Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler in it. I hope it's good.

Kate - I did rest last night. I watched a 48 Hours show and another murder mystery show on TV. Both were interesting.
I guess I never knew Lox were/was salmon. I had always heard of Lox and bagels, but I didn't realize it was salmon! Hmmmm.....interesting.
I like the variations of the parents names for your middle names. My married name the first time around was unusual, too so I think that's another reason we came up with Daniel James. This time around I have a good old-fashioned Scandinavian! I was glad to have something "common".
I'm glad your DS and DF had a good time. I hear my DS also talk about getting "old". I always tell him - Just wait!
Sorry to hear that DF is having pain with her hip.
I'm glad you had a good meal at the Chinese restaurant and got home early. Did you end up with a lot of snow?

Have a good day!

Mema - you did have a busy day yesterday! I hope you had a very relaxing evening. I usually watch a movie on Saturday, but by the time I got finished with cooking and eating, I was late getting to my laptop so I just watched a couple of episodes of Grace & Frankie.
I hope everything was OK this morning with your voting at church. Did you get the results right away or are there absentee ballots coming in too?
I'm sure you'll have plenty of choices of places to eat in San Antonio!
No, I never did get dressed yesterday, and haven't today either! I don't expect to see anyone, so don't see the need. I just pulled on a pair of stretchy pants and have my big night shirt (T-shirt) on with a hoodie on top because it's a little chilly in here today.
Our kids do have 2 middle names. That was their father's idea. I thought it was pretentious, but he insisted. Of course when our son was born, I liked being able to use the names of both my father and brother who had so recently died. I didn't want either of those to be his first name since the deaths were fairly recent.
My name, obviously, is Leslie Jean. The Jean did double duty - it was the name of both my father's mother, and my mother's sister. My mother had apparently got the idea for the name Leslie from the actor Leslie Howard, a man. And when I was growing up, it was more of a boy's name so I got a lot of teasing, and didn't like my name then, but it's fine now. My siblings, Peter Douglas, John Thompson, Marion Graham, all got names from various relatives. Thompson was my mum's maiden name.
I like the name Leann! I met a girl with that name when I was about 10, and I was jealous - I wanted a name like that which sounded 'girly'! My sister and I both gave our daughters our middle names as their middle names too. I like your grandkids' names!
Great that you're both married to Steves!

Kate - I wanted to ask for lox, but was afraid the woman taking my order wouldn't know what I meant. Apparently lox is not necessarily synonymous with smoked salmon - there are different ways of preparing them, as you saw in New Brunswick. I didn't realize that. The colour has really been putting me off, and the salmon seems unusually slimy which is also disturbing, so I ended up throwing it out this morning - an expensive mistake. I may just get the flavoured cream cheese in future.
Interesting about the name Ruby. There is a Ruby in my exercise class; she is in her 80s. I've been hearing about a lot of people naming pets Ruby lately!
I'm glad your DS had a good time out on his birthday! I'm glad they didn't have to be outside a lot on that cold night. Oh my, thinking they are getting old at their ages!
How great that you had such a good day of celebrations yesterday. I'm sure your DGS liked being able to choose his own cake. What sort of food did you have at the lunch? I'm sorry DF has had trouble with her hip.
I'm glad you had the Chinese buffet for dinner and that the food was better quality. And it's good that you got home before the snow was too deep. Are you getting more snow today? I'm not sure how many inches we got yesterday but we're getting a couple more this afternoon. It's cold too; this is more like January.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – “tedious sex” LOL I know exactly what you mean.

I also thought that salmon were all pinkish or reddish. Interesting that it’s white. One of the stores we went into up in New Brunswick had all different kinds of preparations of salmon – hot smoked, cold smoked, and lox.

Mema – that sounds like a really busy day. How was your evening? Did you rest? Those uncommon names can be great or you can hate them. I like Leann although I guess you had to deal w/ different people mis-spelling it.

We have variations of our parent's names for our middle names. Mom was Maria my sister and I have Mary and Marie. My dad was Alvin and my brothers had middle names Alvin and Albert.

I also love the name Ruby and I’ve heard it used more often in recent times. When we were naming our daughter it was almost out of use in this country. I figured w/ our unusual last name, the kids would need really easy first names.

DS said they had a fun time out on Friday night for his real birthday. It was a really cold night. Fortunately they took an uber downtown and the restaurant, comedy club, and the bar where they had a night cap were all really close together so they only had to scurry from one to the other. They were laughing about how they ended up being so tired and going to bed as soon as they got home. Saying they were getting old and not able to stay up late at night like they used to do. LOL

We had a lovely day of celebrations. DGS had some time here in the morning playing on the computer and he did some reading w/ DH. We went to Whole Foods and let DGS pick out the cake he wanted. Then we met up w/ DS and DF for a really nice lunch and came back to the house for presents and cake. I passed on the cake. DF did, too. I think she’s trying to lose a few pounds before the wedding. She’s had a lot of trouble w/ her hip over the last 2 years and the inactivity has caused a bit of weight gain.

In the evening, when DD called to say she was done w/ the class she was teaching, we met her at the Chinese buffet near her work. It didn’t have all the things that DGS likes on the buffet near his house but the food was better quality. I was glad we made that change in restaurants b/c it meant we ate early and got home before the snow was too deep. Even so, we chose back roads b/c there was so much blowing snow and poor visibility.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

Busy day today. I did 2 loads of laundry, cleaned my DH's bathroom, dusted the LR, DR and kitchen (I have a glass baker's rack) and cut up my pineapple. Brought that up at 12:30 and helped out until 1:15. Then had to go back up at 2:00 to help plate the bars and fruit. After the service which was at 3:00, I stayed and helped clean up after everyone ate. Got home at 5:30!

But I don't have anything else to do tonight so I can rest for the evening! emoticon

I'm not sure what tomorrow's going to bring with our vote and all. But I do need to steam the tile in the kitchen and living room. I'll have time to do that before our company comes. And I have to make the potato soup, but that's pretty easy.

Leslie - The filet of salmon sounds much easier to handle. I don't have a lot of salmon myself, but I guess I always think of it as "salmon" colored, too.
I guess parts of MN have been really bad with blowing snow.
I was looking around our hotel up in San Antonio and the Luby's my DH was talking about is across the street from the cancer center that we're going to, not across from the hotel. That's about 3 miles away. The area that we are going to is a HUGE area of all kinds of medical centers, hospitals, clinics, etc! Blocks and blocks of them. My DH will be driving up on Thursday, so I'm sure we'll find someplace to eat.
I'm glad you were having a lazy day today! Did you ever get dressed?
Did you give your children 2 middle names? My godfather named me (my first name). My parents gave me my middle name - Leann Doreen - I hated my name as a child. No one I knew had either name. I always felt like I had an odd name. I'm not named after anyone. Neither is my sister. My ex and I named our son after 2 uncles - Daniel and James. And Dakota and Ryan each have their mom and dad's middle names as their middle names - Dakota Lynn and Ryan James. I like that.

Kate - Happy b-day to your DS and DGS! I hope you had a fun day today. Did your DS enjoy the comedy club and dinner?
I like the name Ruby, but everyone's tastes are different and sometimes it just doesn't seem like that will fit. I don't know if I've mentioned this or not, but my DH's name is Steve, too! It's actually Steven, but no one calls him that.

Have a great day! Time to relax now!

I don't know what I was thinking when I said 'the whole salmon' - I have seen them and they are huge! I think I meant a whole fillet - it was about 8 inches long and 4 inches wide, and almost an inch thick in the middle, but tapers off toward the edges. Now that I've thawed it, it actually is in thin slices, but for some reason it's kind of disturbing me that it's white rather than what I think of as salmon-coloured. It tasted all right when I had it on a bagel this morning. I think the package was $12.99. Definitely a rare treat!

We are having a heavy snow event, and the wind will pick up and blow the snow all over. Travel is not advised.

Mema - you certainly do find things to keep busy with! Nice that there will be a light meal after the service this afternoon.
At Luby's, I imagine you could go back if you want to pay more! Usually restaurants are kind of in bunches, so no doubt there will be other choices.

Kate - I hope your DS enjoyed the evening DF had planned for him!
The grain free bread sounds interesting! I'm glad you were able to cross some things off your to-do list. I am being lazy today and haven't got dressed.
I recently finished watching the Bodyguard, a British show which didn't last long, and had a bit of tedious sex in a couple of the episodes, but otherwise I enjoyed it. Last night I finished another British show, Line of Duty.
My daughter's name came from 3 of 4 great-grandmothers, with some modifications: Kate became Catherine, Jean was fine, and Sophie became Sophia. My son's name begins with E to honour his grandfather, and his other two names came from my dad and my younger brother who had both died in the 15 months between my daughter's birth and his. So he is Erik John Malcolm.
Enjoy the birthday celebrations today, and happy birthday to both of the guys!

Mema – Sounds like a busy weekend for you. Hope the vote goes well and there isn’t any dissension in the church afterwards.

DF said she was taking him out to dinner in the North End in Boston (Italian section) and then had tickets to a comedy club.

I split up my day yesterday w/ making some grain free bread for the freezer (made w/ nuts and eggs) and doing some knitting on the stocking. I also got some things crossed off my to-do list.

Leslie – I like the British shows I watch – mostly mysteries.

A whole smoked salmon is huge and it certainly would cost more than $150. I think around here, it’s about $15/lb.

My brother is named after our great-grandfather and I’m named after our great-grandmother. I wanted to follow that custom so my DS is named his great-grandfather. But the choices of great-grandmother names were Ruby, Theodosia, Ida and Gertrude. None of those seemed appropriate so she’s named after my DH’s sister.

I was busier today. Did some cleaning - my bath, my bedroom, vacuumed the dining room. Tomorrow I have to go up to the clubhouse to drop off my fruit, but then I was asked to help with a couple of other things. The service is at 3:00 and then a light supper afterwards. I will try and get some more cleaning done tomorrow maybe before the service. And I would like to do laundry on Sunday before our neighbors come over. I can always finish that on Monday.

Leslie - Wow - that would be a lot of salmon if they gave you the whole fish!
DH and I will probably go out to eat on Thursday once we get settled in our hotel room. He said there's a Luby's across the street. That's kind of a buffet, but you go thru a line and ask for what you want and then pay for that - no going back. I've eaten there once before and it was OK. I'm going to look myself to see what else is around the place. I also thought about ordering a pizza to be delivered. That could be an option.

Kate - I'm curious as to what your DS's fiance planned for his b-day? Wasn't she going to do something tonight?
You will have a busy day tomorrow - celebrating twice - once at lunch and again at dinner! How fun! LOL
Did you end up doing some cooking ahead with your "day off"?
I texted my DS about how much snow they have - he just replied they have a good amount! I'm pretty sure he has to work tomorrow, so he was probably getting ready for bed. He was having trouble with his snowblower; I hope he got it fixed.

Have a wonderful day!

Mema - good for you, doing nothing other than taking a nap! Your stuffed pepper hotdish sounds wonderful with the peppers in strips. I love peppers!
Your hotel next week with the kitchenette sounds like a great idea, and it's good that you won't have to keep eating out for every meal! And I can understand not really wanting to drive in an unfamiliar city. You could order pizza or something, but bringing your own good food sounds great!
Having your neighbours over on Sunday sounds like a good idea. And the potato soup sounds wonderful.
I hope the vote at church goes the way you want!
Yes, I have all the 'basic' channels from the US and Canada, but don't have any 'extras' such as Fox. I hardly ever watch TV; I just watch the shows I want from Netflix online. My laptop screen is about the same size as my 13" TV, so I'm happy to just sit in my desk chair to watch shows. I'm sorry you don't watch a lot of British shows; I find them quite entertaining.
My grocery bill was higher than I had anticipated because I asked for smoked salmon (to put on bagels and cream cheese) but I think what I've got is a whole smoked fish! I haven't opened the package yet.

Kate - how wonderful to have a list with only produce or dairy! Since I only order every 2 weeks, there are inevitably other items on my lists. Because of the salmon, my bill was almost $150, which is less than the last two bills, but not by a lot.
How great that your DH always makes sure your 'bigger' stocking is filled! Thanks for telling me your kids' names. I like them! One of my brothers was named Peter, and now he has a grandson named that too. I had guessed what your DH's name was because there were enough letters showing on his stocking.
Happy birthday to your DS and DGS! Your plans for celebrating sound good.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – I had to go out for groceries yesterday and realized I had nothing on my list that wasn’t produce or dairy. Everything had to go in the fridge when I got home. Mine was a lower bill than usual, too.

My DH would always say that about my stocking – it might not match but it’s bigger. He always makes sure there is a lot in it, too. My MIL made it for me in the span of time when she had lost the pattern. Then my DH’s sister married into a family that had the same stockings so the pattern was available again and MIL knit them for my kids and their cousins and my DGS (her only great grandchild). The names on them wrap around so you can’t see the whole name. On the left is my DS Peter, next is my DD Susan, and then my DH Steve.

Mema – a day of nothing but a nap sounds like a good break in your busy schedule.

That bitter wind and cold that your DS was having arrived yesterday afternoon. I could hear the wind every time I woke up in the night and it’s not going to get above 20 degrees today. In fact, it’s going to be pretty chilly for the next few days.

Yum, potato soup! Sounds like a fun evening planned.

I love having a space to do a bit of cooking when I’m in a hotel. I often bring food with me to avoid having to eat a lot of meals in restaurants. Or if I do, I’ll bring back a “doggy bag” to have the next day.

I think I don't have anything planned for today. I know my DH has a dentist appointment. I might do some 'cooking ahead' and get some meals in the freezer.

Tomorrow will be busy b/c we’ll have DGS here all day. And we’ll be celebrating 2 birthdays. Both my DS and my DGS have birthdays today. We’ll go out w/ DS, DF and DGS for lunch and perhaps bowling afterwards. And DGS asked for a trip to a Chinese buffet so we’ll do that for dinner when my DD can come.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

I did absolutely nothing today! Oh, I did take a nap! emoticon And I fixed dinner - we had stuffed pepper hotdish - I kind of made up the recipe myself. Instead of putting the rice/hamburger mixture into the peppers and baking them, I cut the peppers up into strips and put the whole mixture in a large skillet and simmer it until the peppers are just cooked. So that was pretty good and we had quite a bit left over. We're staying at a hotel that has a kitchenette in it next week and so I put the left overs in the freezer and told DH we could possibly bring that with us and just heat it up for our dinner the night after his surgery. We've got a frig and microwave and stove top so we'll bring up most of the food we'll need rather than trying to find places to eat. Besides, after the surgery, DH can't drive and I don't think I would feel comfortable driving in the middle of San Antonio! I think we'll go out for dinner the night before, but then eat the rest of our meals at the hotel.

Tomorrow I will do laundry and clean up a bit. DH wants to have our neighbors over on Sunday night for potato soup and just to have a get together. They had him over while I was up in MN over the holidays. They're fun and easy people to have over. It's going to get chilly here on Sunday - the high is only going to be in the upper 50's! So, the soup should be good.

I'm the reader in church on Sunday and we have a voter's meeting after church. It's going to be on voting on adding this young man to our budget and have him go thru this Hispanic ministry course. We're actually going to take a closed vote on it! That's how contentious it is! But that is mainly coming from the pastor. He wants this guy as his "side-kick" basically. Oh, well. God will handle the outcome - all I can do is vote "no" for me.

Leslie - Actually, I'm kind of glad there won't be Zumba tomorrow. After today, I don't feel like going. I just felt like I couldn't get going today.
I did see that Good Girls is going to be on NBC - do you have that up in Canada? I'm not a big fan of British shows, but will watch one once in awhile.
Hope you got all the groceries you needed! Nice to have a lower bill this time. I keep telling my DH that we're set on meat so don't buy anymore! He has a habit of doing that if he sees something on sale!

Kate - I think sometimes we don't realize how tiring it can be just sitting waiting for someone. So, I'm very glad we'll be staying the extra day next week for the surgery.
Nice that your SIL has the yarn to send you and yes, I think you should make one for yourself! My mom crocheted stockings for us - but it was when we were a bit older, but they were all the same. She decorated her tree and living room in blue and silver, so the stockings were blue and white.
Thanks for showing us the picture! I love it!
You must have had decent weather that you could walk to your meeting. They had dangerous wind chills at my DS's place today and they are under a Winter Storm Warning for quite a bit of snow over the week-end.
That is funny about the woman thinking her stockings were so special and then finding out so many other's had them. But as kids, we don't know those things - probably good!

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm glad your hymn meeting went well, and there have been no more changes being made!
I'm glad your DH's surgery has been scheduled, and that it will be soon. I agree that you're wise to be staying there for the night after he has the surgery. It will be a benefit for you both.
I'm sorry your Zumba class is cancelled for tomorrow.
Your two pineapples sound like a wonderful contribution, especially if others are also bringing fruit.
Yes, I was glad to be able to be the listener for my housekeeper, who really is and has been dealing with a lot.
I forgot to say what room my gifts were supposed to be for at the shower - the dining room. I had written a poem which my sister loved. About the dish cloths, I mentioned cleaning up spills, and for the candles and/or holders I must have said something about seeing what you were doing. I was very glad to have had the ring, and the crystal flutes, to pass along.
I'm happy to hear there will be another season of Good Girls. I am watching season 6 of Line of Duty, a British show I enjoy. The Bodyguard was great but there were only 6 episodes and only 1 season.

Kate - Yes, it was exhausting being the listener on Tuesday, and it really took me yesterday to recover. I was only saying 'wow' - I knew she just needed to get it all out and wasn't looking for solutions from me. I'm glad you understand from the experiences with your DD.
I'm glad your stocking is coming along well. How great that your SIL is sending Angora yarn for the beard on the stocking. I like the photo of the stockings! Yours might not match but it looks bigger! emoticon What are your kids' names? How interesting that it was such a popular pattern for stockings in the 50s!

Today we were supposed to be getting a lot of nasty weather, but it seems to be all to our west and south, so that's fine - I'm sure the kids are enjoying another day off school in the affected area. All the kids were off yesterday because there was a one-day strike by all the public school teachers in our district. They are protesting the changes our idiotic premier (equivalent to governor) of Ontario decreed, such as larger class sizes.

I have not accomplished much today, other than ordering groceries, so I'm just waiting for them to come. And I sometimes get a call with a question about the order. I am not getting meat this time, so I expect a lower bill than I've had the previous two times I've ordered.

I hope you're both having good days, and you're enjoying your 'day off', Mema!

Mema – nice to have a day when you don’t have anything planned. Hope you can enjoy it.

It’s good that your DH has his surgery scheduled. I hope it all goes smoothly. I think it’s a good idea to spend the night and drive home rested. All that getting up early, getting to the hospital and then waiting around (probably in an uncomfortable chair) can be tiring.

Leslie – my DD is a person who has to talk things out to unload them. It’s exhausting being a listener for a person like that. But I figured out I don’t need to do anything except “say wow” and that makes it easier. When she was younger I thought I had to help or give advice, but that’s not what she needs.

How wonderful that you could pass on a family heirloom ring for the engagement and Champagne flutes for the wedding.

Yesterday I walked to my meetings since DH took the car for his once a week trip to the company office. In the afternoon I worked on the stocking. It’s coming out pretty well. There is a Santa face w/ a fuzzy beard knit from Angora yarn. My SIL offered to send me some that she had left over from the last batch of stockings. The tracking says it will be here early next week so I’ll have to take a break if I get to that point in the pattern before the yarn arrives.

Thanks for the encouragement about giving the stocking. Here's an old photo of our family stockings. You can see that my DS and DD have stockings that match DH's. DGS now has one, too. I'm the only one in the family that doesn't have a matching stocking. Maybe I'll make one for myself??

Oh, a funny thing happened when I went to the yarn store. A woman was there working on a knitting project. She saw the stocking I pulled out and asked if it had been knitted in the 50’s. I told her it was a newer one but it matched my DH’s that had been knitted in the 50’s. She said she and her siblings all had those stockings and they thought they were so special. It wasn’t until they were older that they realized how many people in that generation had stocking from that pattern.

Our hymn meeting went well this morning and there is no longer any "unauthorized" changes being made! Well, at least for the winter - 3 of us on the committee leave for the summer, so we'll see if anything happens after that. We've asked the other 2 members to keep track.

Then when I got home, my DH had received a call from the doctor's office up in San Antonio and they can get him in next Friday for his surgery to remove the skin cancer! So, we'll leave here next Thursday and stay for 2 nights. They told him he would be all done the same day and we could go back home, but I will have to drive and I told my DH that after getting up early to get to the hospital, sit there and wait (they said the whole thing will take about 5 hours) I did NOT want to have to drive 4 1/2 hours home myself. He can't drive for 24 hours. He agreed. And besides, IF anything would happen afterwards (stitches open up or something like that) I would rather be up there.

In the afternoon I went up for Zumba. The gal who said she would be back today did come up, but said she had a terrible cold and so she went back home, but said she would be there on Monday. Our class is cancelled for this Friday because of another function. There were 4 of us today. Still OK - I would like more, but I'm happy with whoever we get.

Tomorrow I don't have anything planned as of now! I'm glad! It's been a busy week so far. emoticon

Leslie - I really do enjoy the Zumba so it's not much of an effort for me, but I know what you mean.
I'm going to buy 2 pineapples and cut them up. With the other ladies bringing fruit, that should be plenty. But I'm not always sure, either on stuff like that.
My friend that called last night is in WI - she's from the meeting that I go to up there.
It's nice that you could be the "listening ear" for your housekeeper. I like the phrase you used when you said she needed to "unload all the emotionally charged stuff" - that perfectly describes how I feel at different times. Sounds like she's dealing with a lot.
I loved the idea of buying a gift for a certain room and then writing something to describe the room as a clue. The ring you gave your DS for his fiance sounds beautiful! What a wonderful heirloom.
I hope your back feels better!
Oh, and I just heard they announced Season 3 of Good Girls is supposed to start in Feb! It might not be on Netflix then, but at least I know they are going to have another season. I finished up watching the 2nd season last night.

Kate - It can be nice sometimes to switch things up - meeting your friend for morning coffee since you can't do lunch right now. But I'm sure you'll be glad to get back to your favorite Thai place for lunch!
I like that "prequel" reference - but it makes sense! LOL

Have a wonderful day!

Mema - You really put a lot of effort into the Zumba! I'm glad you like it so much, and that another woman also came on Monday; I also hope she'll be there today.
I'm very happy that you no longer have the coughing fits.
When I'm asked to bring food to an event, I never know how much to bring. How much fruit will you be taking to the memorial service? I'm glad each of the women in the group will be bringing some.
It's great that your DH lost the weight he wanted to! Plus a little! I'm glad his stomach is not still being upset.
I agree that the people at the library treated me very well by agreeing among themselves to put me in the #1 position for that book - I hadn't asked for that. I was just curious about how I could have gone backward!
I'm sorry you've lost trees and plants when it's cold down there.
How nice that you had good weather and could go on an evening golf cart ride with your DH.
I hope your hymn meeting went well this morning, and, like Kate, I hope there's been no more arbitrary changing of the hymns you had selected.
I'm glad you heard from your friend from WI. (Or MN?) It is surprising when someone you've been thinking of calls! I've experienced that too.

Yes, my housekeeper was here yesterday, and REALLY talked my ear off! Her grandpa had died recently, and one of his sons, her uncle, is now alone in the house which is evidently starting to fall apart but he is refusing to do anything about it! She kept giving me one example after another about his speech and behaviour. I think he sounds mentally ill or has Asperger's, or both.
She needed to unload all the emotionally charged stuff here because she knew she wouldn't be able to with her next client. As I said to her, I don't think I've said 'wow' so many times in a day in at least 40 years. I'm very glad he's not my relative.

Kate - My goodness - going from record heat to snow sounds amazing!
The woman at the library told me I should never have had to wait so long for that book, but I won't be waiting much longer!
Your idea of the stocking for your DF's shower sounds perfect! I like Mema's idea too of family recipes. I had given my DS a notebook of recipes when he first started living on his own. For my DIL's shower, which was the afternoon before the wedding, I was at my most broke, and really could afford nothing. We had each been assigned a room that the gift would apply to, and were to write something - poem, funny anecdote, riddle - about the gift to give her a clue, and she had to guess which room the gift represented. I think I gave a couple of candle holders, and a couple of dish cloths I had knit. At least I had been able to provide my DS with a lovely ring (sapphire and 2 diamonds) which I had inherited from my grandmother, so that was the engagement ring, and for the wedding I had brought 2 gorgeous crystal champagne flutes that had been used at my grandmother's wedding (other grandmother).
Is it just you and your friend in the Bible study? Your plan sounds good. I'm sorry you've both been missing out on your favourite Thai place for lunches this month!

It was my intention to go to the exercise class this morning, but I think I was still overtired from all the talking yesterday, and my back was bothering me, so I decided to stay in.

I hope you're both having good days!

Yesterday I met w/ my friend for Bible Study. We usually meet at lunch time and eat at our favorite Thai place but she has conflicts every Tuesday noon all month so we met for morning coffee instead. The church will be doing a sermon series on the books of Kings later this year so the two of us are doing 1st and 2nd Samuel as a kind of background study. (a prequel? LOL)

Leslie - hope your day w/ your housekeeper was nice and not too tiring.

Mema – the recipe card file sounds lovely, too. When my DS left for college, I made him a “cookbook” with all his favorite recipes in it.

Hope you get all the hymns picked out. I guess you got the “hymn switching” stopped.

Nice to get a call from someone in your northern meeting. I do find those coincidences happen.

That makes sense that they would have the memorial service soon while the out of town family is there.

Went to Bible study this morning, the bread store outlet and Dollar Tree, then my meeting. Tonight after supper, DH and I went on a golf cart ride. It was a nice night.
Tomorrow morning I have a Hymn committee meeting. Hopefully we'll get the next 4 months covered. I think we were through March. So if we can complete April-July, then we'll meet one more time before the winter is over and cover Aug-Nov.
Then I will have Zumba in the afternoon.

I also got a call from one of the ladies from my meeting up North. It was really nice to talk with her. I had just been thinking about her yesterday! So, that was a "coincidence".

Leslie - I'm assuming your housekeeper was at your place today, so you must have had a busy morning. I know how she can wear you out sometimes. Hope you were able to rest up in the afternoon.

Kate - There were a couple of gals who came to the Zumba class last year that I thought would certainly be back this year, but I haven't seen them. I'm hoping we'll get more new comers. And also word of mouth helps a lot, once someone has been to a class. So I do hope that new gal from Monday comes back tomorrow.
I guess I've seen memorial services both right away and weeks or months later. I'm thinking it must just depend on all the circumstances of the families. And now with cremation, it's not a necessity to do something right away. But I do know this woman's 2 daughters were flying in, so it may be because they live out of state and were down here now that they wanted to do something sooner rather than later.
I think that's a wonderful idea of a Christmas stocking to match the rest of the family for your new DIL! One of the things I did for my DIL was purchase a photo album that would hold 4 x 6 photos, but I filled it with hand written recipe cards of recipes that my DS always liked. I color coded the cards somewhat, too. I just bought regular index cards, but a bunch of different colors. Just a thought.

Time to watch the last episode of Good Girls and then New Amsterdam's new season starts tonight!

Have a great day!

Mema – nice that your class is attracting newcomers.

Those coughs can linger for quite a while. Glad you’re not getting “fits” anymore.

It’s good that your Bible Study group is helping by providing food for the memorial service. That’s pretty quick to have a service. They usually seem to be at least a few weeks after a death.

Leslie – we did hit record highs on both weekend days. And then yesterday it was snowing.

I’m glad you got bumped up to number one for the book. That certainly was strange that your number changed in the wrong direction. You’ve certainly been waiting a long time for that book.

I’ve been thinking for a long time what I should get for a bridal shower gift for DF. Her mom suggested we do something special and personal together but then she decided just to go together w/ her MIL to get them the pots and pans they need. But the thought stayed w/ me. I was taking down the stockings and it occurred to me that I could knit one for her to match all the rest of our family. That would be kind of symbolic I think. I went out on Sunday to look for yarn and couldn’t find the colors. Then, yesterday I went to a specialty shop and she took one look at the stocking I brought w/ me and knew exactly what I wanted. I started on it yesterday but I think I may need to switch to smaller needles. I hate to have to pull out what I’ve done but it looks a bit bigger than DS’s stocking.

I did just a little bit of cleaning today. Mostly I worked on a new routine for Zumba. I think I have it down, but I'll practice more before doing it up at the clubhouse. Probably next week. And I have one more routine to figure out and then I should be set for the rest of the winter. That will be 4 new routines. We had just 4 of us today, but then a woman came and joined who was in a painting class in one of the rooms off the main clubhouse. She had to go and check on her painting and then came back once more. She said she'll come on Wednesday. I don't know who she is, I was leading at the time, so I couldn't talk to her. Hopefully I'll see her Wednesday.

Tomorrow is Bible study at church, I'll run a couple of errands and then go to my meeting. My cough is getting better. I haven't been having the "fits" like I was.

The gal who is leading the Bible study here at the club called me and asked if I would bring some cut-up fruit for the Memorial service on Saturday. The gal who lost her husband is going to have a service at our clubhouse. Each one of us women in the Bible study will bring up fruit and the widow's daughter is going to use it on a cheese tray.

Leslie - My DH had wanted to lose about 20 lbs. and I think he lost 25 or so. So it was weight that he had wanted to lose. Mainly it was because the Metformin he takes for his diabetes tends to upset his stomach (that is a side affect). It's gotten better now, but in the beginning it was pretty bad, so he just didn't eat as much.
That is strange what happened at the library, but how nice that now your #1 on the list! That was awfully nice of her to do that for you.

Kate - We've lost plants and trees down here because of the snow we had! In 2004 when we had snow on Christmas Eve and the morning of Christmas Day, the valley lost a lot of plants and trees. Especially the papaya trees for some reason. They must be very sensitive. And quite a few palm trees were killed, too. So similar result as your peaches, but different temperatures.
Oh, and trust me, I had been talking to my DH for quite some time about going thru his closet! LOL I was surprised that he actually did it!
So sorry to hear about the 2 women in your OA group losing their husbands. It is sad.

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm glad your attic is well organized now, and the boxes are all up there too.
Did your DH want to lose all the weight he's lost? Good for him for going through his closets and giving away all those shirts!
I'm very sorry to hear about the woman from your Bible study losing her husband. I'm sure she appreciated your call.
It's great that there will be a memorial service for your aunt in MN. I hope it will be while you're there.
You are very dedicated to the Zumba - that's great, and I'm sure the others appreciate your enthusiasm for it! It sounds like you and the other leader have it worked out very well.
I think you're right about Good Girls, now that you mention it. I did check to see if I had any new episodes, but there aren't any.
I'm glad you have Wanted in your queue - I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Yes, it was a cozy feeling being in my warm apartment while the ice was hitting the windows!

Kate - I'm sorry about the year there were so few local peaches after the peach trees began budding too early and were then killed off. Did you set another record temperature yesterday? It's warming up a bit here, and chunks of ice and snow are falling from higher windowsills - it keeps surprising me.
I'm sorry for the women in your OA group who have recently lost their husbands. So far, only two of my friends have been widowed, one of them a very long time ago - her DH died young of brain cancer.

I've just had an odd experience with the library. I had requested a book in August, Delia Owens' Where the Crawdads Sing. It's a very popular book. Some time later I checked my library account, and I was #14 in line for it; a couple of months ago I was #8, but yesterday I was #9!! I couldn't figure out why that would be so I called the library. I was passed on to someone higher up, and she couldn't figure it out either, but said she'd call me back. She did call not long afterward, and nobody could figure out how that happened, so they have put me in the #1 position! I'll get the next copy that is returned to the library, so I was very appreciative, and the woman I was talking to was very apologetic. I'm glad I called!

I hope your days are going well.

Leslie – I have been woken up in past storms with the ice hitting the windows. Last weekend we had a lot of wind, too, but it didn’t matter w/ the warm temperatures.

Those warm ups do confuse the plants. I remember a few years ago there was a longer warm up in February and all the peach trees started to bud. Of course, it didn’t last and the flowers were killed. There were almost no local peaches that summer.

Mema – nice that your DH used the time alone to go through his closet. Mine won’t even think of things like that unless I remind him. He will throw out the most worn shirts and pants when we buy new things.

Sounds like you and the other Zumba teacher have worked out a good division of labor.

I hope the memorial service for your aunt will take place after you’re back north so you can go. It makes sense to have the service in a place where family and friends can attend.

So sorry for the woman in your study who lost her DH. In the past 2 years, two of the women from my OA group have lost their husbands. Very sad.

I did get my Christmas boxes back up in the attic today. And I did some re-arranging up there as well. I didn't have to do too much - last winter I went through almost everything that is up there when I was working on my DS's picture inventory! It's pretty organized up there right now.

I do need to iron a table cloth for my dining room table, but DH has a bunch of pants sitting there that he is going to have tailored. He's lost quite a bit of weight (from last summer) and so a lot of his clothes are too big.He just has to figure out another place to put them! + While I was in MN, he went thru his closet and gave away 20+ dress shirts and golf shirts!! That was amazing for him!

I was supposed to have Bible study with the small group of ladies here where we live, but my friend who is leading it called to tell me it was cancelled. One of the women in our small group lost her husband last night. He had been sick and had cancer. I called her tonight to tell her how sorry I was to hear. I told her I didn't want to stop over with my cold and cough. Even though I know I'm not contagious, I wouldn't want to take any chances.

But I will have Zumba tomorrow, so I will go to that. And maybe do some other cleaning, too.

I talked with my aunt tonight and she told me my cousin (the one who just lost her mom) is going to have some type of Memorial service for her mom this summer up in MN. Her mom had just recently been going to FL and staying with her daughter and her DH the past few years, so she really hadn't had the chance to get to know a lot of people down there. And all the rest of the family are in MN. I was glad to hear that, so I hope we'll be back up North when that happens.

Leslie - I did rest some today, too. After I finished up in the attic. I worked on a new Zumba routine also. Not finished yet, but close to it.
I remember the movie, The Post - I don't believe we ever watched it, though. Glad you enjoyed it. I thought you had already seen the second season of Good Girls last year. I thought I remember you talking about it, but at the time I could only get the first season here in the states.
Oh, I went to search for Wanted on Netflix tonight and I already had it in my queue, so somewhere along the line, I must have seen it and thought it looked good!
Sounds like you had quite a night of weather last night. I love to listen to the rain or storms or the blowing of snow at night when I'm nice and warm tucked in bed! LOL

Kate - Those warm temperature's you were having I'm sure brought out a lot of people. That would happen in MN too when the temps would get into the 50's, people felt like it was spring outside!
Nice to be able to open your windows to let in some of the fresh air - especially when your house has probably been pretty closed up for a couple of months. DH even likes to do that down here if we've had the air conditioning on for several weeks - the minute we get a bit of a cool down he'll "air" out the house.
The Zumba/Cardio Dance class is split up. I usually will start and do 4-6 songs and then the other leader does the last part of the class - usually 3 - 4 songs. It's worked out well, so far. And on the days that I haven't been able to make it, she'll just do more of her own songs.

Enjoy your Monday! I think I'll watch one or 2 more episodes of Good Girls and go to bed!

Mema - I'm glad you got some rest, and maybe you can get more rest today since you went to church yesterday afternoon. I'm glad you had your pictures taken.
I hope you finish up with your Christmas boxes today.
Oh, I'll have to see if I can also get Good Girls. I really enjoyed the first season. I think you might get a kick out of Wanted too when you're able to get to it.
I watched a really good movie last night, The Post, with Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. (I hadn't seen him in ages and almost didn't recognize him!) The movie was about the Washington Post publishing the Pentagon papers. Quite fascinating!
Good for you with the Zumba! That sounds like a lot of exercise to me.
I'm glad you were going to be comfortable sleeping without air conditioning last night.

We really had vicious winds all night long, from before I went to bed to after I got up. There was freezing rain/ice pellets/snow all night too - I could hear it hitting the windows, even my bedroom window which is at the back of the balcony, and that is enclosed on 3 sides. The window must be a good 6' from the open side. There is snow on that window sill, and a little drift, several inches deep, below the window. The temperature dropped like crazy, but it's 16 F now which isn't too bad. I wouldn't want to go out - I'm sure everything is slippery.

Kate - I'm glad you got all your things done. I'm sure the people will appreciate the receipts today.
I'm sorry there was so much traffic yesterday, but good weather in winter does do that!
I saw your post with your super warm temps! And even setting a record yesterday. It sure didn't get that warm here, but it sounds lovely. It would be confusing for the flora and fauna!
I am almost ready to start my 4th little notebook. It's interesting to look back - sometimes a particular book just jumps out at me and I want to read it ASAP.

I'm all caught up with emails except for 2 more about books. I must have gone through at least a dozen emails about books already this morning, including one put out by the BBC - they had some very interesting selections of important books from the past, several of which I had already read, and others I've meant to read so it was a great reminder. I'm off to read now!

I hope you're both having good days.

We got everything done that needed to be done in good time. I did my running around town errands before my meeting and still had time to print out the annual giving receipts for those who want them. I’ll be handing many of them out this morning before church. The drive into Boston was pretty slow due to a lot of traffic. I think everyone saw the lovely weather in the forecast and decided to head out to do things.

I think I’m going to open up some windows this afternoon to let the fresh air in. It’s supposed to be mid 60’s again today. Really strange for January.

Leslie – keeping all those book suggestions written down in a notebook is a good idea. I will see books and think “that would be interesting” and then not remember it later on.

Mema – Zumba 3/ week sounds like some good exercise for you. Will you try leading it on all three days or split it w/ the other teacher.

I didn't get a lot done today - I did go to Walmart this morning, but then came home and rested. DH and I went to church this afternoon. January and February our church offers a 4:00 pm Saturday service, so we decided to go today. And we also had our pictures taken before the service for a new church directory we are putting together. DH and I haven't had our picture taken together for quite a few years now, so it will be nice to have a current picture. The gal who was taking the pictures mentioned she would also take individual pictures of us and DH commented that he was glad about that since with the passing of his parents recently, he didn't have a picture of himself that I would be able to use at the funeral if he passed away! LOL

Tomorrow I will finish putting my Christmas boxes back up in the attic. I told DH that I was going to do that, so he knows he will have to help. emoticon

Leslie - I went to Netflix to search the show Wanted, but saw that I can now get the 2nd season of Good Girls and so I started watching that! I think I watched like 5 episodes tonight! Love that show. But I will still check out Wanted at some point.
Yes, I'm trying to do the Zumba 3x/week. That's when it's scheduled and the other gal has been there all 3 days. I've had to miss, but hopefully I'll be able to keep up the 3x now.
We're supposed to go down to 46 tonight, so I have my bedroom window open. The humidity and dew points are very low, so it will be comfortable sleeping tonight w/out air conditioning on and it's not windy anymore!

Kate - Every so often I sort through my Christmas decorations and figure out if there are things I can give away. After my mom passed, she had a few decorations that I kept for her to decorate her room at John Knox and I kept those for myself now.
I hope you don't end up with a bad February! I was talking with my DS tonight and he said the temp up there today dropped like a lead balloon! He said it was like +1 this evening.
I'm also familiar with temps affected by the ocean. When my mom was in Brownsville, I would check her temperature against ours - we're about 65 miles inland, so when the temps got cold by us, it was always a bit warmer by her and vice versa.
I hope you managed to get everything done that you needed to today.

Happy Sunday!

Mema - I'm sorry you have to wait for your DH to help you with getting things to and from the attic, but it is great that you do have the help so hopefully you won't hurt yourself again.
I'm sorry the weather affects his body. It can do that to me too. Today is bad - the temperature has dropped from about 40 to 30 this morning, and it was pouring rain, but now it's supposed to be freezing rain and power outages are a definite possibility. If I don't write tomorrow, that will probably be why!
I'm glad you had a new person at Zumba. I hope she'll come back too. It sounds as if you are doing the 3 times/week now.
I'm glad the coughing spells are less often now. I hope you won't lose your voice. I think I have had laryngitis many years ago. It would be difficult now since most of my speaking is over the phone!
I hope you liked the movie. Last weekend I watched Victoria and Abdul, about Queen Victoria, and her teacher from India, which was based on fact and quite fascinating. I don't know if you've had a chance to check out Wanted, the Australian series I mentioned before. It's about 2 very different women who were in the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up having to go on the run. I really enjoyed it. Now I'm watching the Bodyguard which is a British series.
I'm sorry it would be so difficult to get to your aunt's funeral. I know about difficult places to get to - it's difficult to fly here, and also to where my DS lives.

Kate - That sounds wise, combining partly empty boxes of decorations.
I think it's amazing that my body seems to have compensated pretty well for all the problems I have with my spine!
I'm not entirely caught up online yet, but all that's left are a few emails about books that I like to read to get more ideas of books to read. I have almost filled 3 little notebooks with the names of books and their authors. It would be enough for 2 or 3 lifetimes. I just look through when I make my lists for my volunteer and pick out whatever grabs my attention at the time.
No doubt the person you were talking to is right that February will be brutal!
You do have a busy day! I hope you can do everything you want without stress.
I know about the moderating effects of being on the water which is where I live. When I first moved in here in 2005, I could see a bit of Georgian Bay, but now the trees have grown too tall. I'm only on the second floor, but my upstairs neighbours have spectacular views!

Because of the falling temp and the high winds, I had to close my windows a while ago - it was just getting too chilly in here. It looks as if the wind has calmed down now. I'll at least open my bedroom window a bit by tonight.

I hope your days are going well.

Mema – I’m always picking and choosing things from different boxes of decorations. But this year I combined the things from the half empty boxes and put those back in the attic after I decorated.

Nice to hear that you’re on the mend and able to do the Zumba w/ only minor coughing fits.

Leslie – I have a tiny twist and a bend in my lumbar spine that is causing the leg numbness. I can’t imagine how your nerves manage w/ all the distortion.

Glad you’re getting caught up on the on-line stuff.

I was telling someone about our fairly mild weather and their response was “That means February will be brutal. LOL

We have a full day today. Both of us have meetings this morning and then we have an errand down in Boston this afternoon. And laundry in between. The outdoor decorations need to come in. Fortunately the weather is going to cooperate w/ record warmth – low 60’s in Boston so it should be upper 50’s here. We're away from the ocean so we tend to be a bit colder in the winter and warmer in the summer.

I had to wait awhile for DH before I could hand him down the cases from the attic. He was pretty stiff today - we had sustained winds here of 30-35 mph all day long with gusts up into the 40's and low 50's! The weather can sometimes wreak havoc on his body. So I didn't get started as early as I wanted. I did get most of my stuff put away, but I have to look in a couple of cases still in the attic because I picked around at all the decorations. And ended up taking something from one case and something from another. But I left those cases up in the attic. I can figure that out up there. I will need DH to hand up the cases to me now once I'm finished, but that might take awhile, too! Sigh! That's why I was always doing it myself, so I didn't have to wait on him. Oh, well - then I hurt myself, so I shouldn't complain! LOL

We had a new gal at Zumba today! There were 6 of us altogether. I think she enjoyed it, so I hope she will come back on Monday. It went well and I really didn't cough too much. I get small "fits" of coughing, but those are getting to be further and further apart, so I'm hoping I'm on the mend. Although, my voice sounds terrible. Almost sounds like I'm losing it, but that has never happened to me before.

DH and I are going to watch a Netflix DVD together. I can't remember what the name of the movie is, but I'll let you know if it was good or not. I know it has to do with gangsters from the 1920's I think.

Leslie - I doubt I would go to the funeral unless my aunt from Brownsville wants to go and I could maybe go with her. But to fly from here to FL is really not an easy flight for some reason. Maybe where my aunt was living - Boynton Beach - North of Ft. Lauderdale and South of W. Palm Beach on the Atlantic side of the state.
My DS has had a few days of single digit temperatures with wind chills in the minus zero, but otherwise, they have had a relatively nice winter so far, too.
I hope you got caught up with all your online stuff and got to read.

Kate - That's too bad about the swim instructor being so boring - and especially when you work with kids I would want them to be a bit more engaging. I hope you can find a better instructor. It's nice that your DGS is such a good swimmer. Last summer, my DIL enrolled Dakota and Ryan in swim classes. I wonder if she will do the same this summer. I hope so. I think it's wonderful for kids.
How nice to have had a great visit with your friend! I think I remember you mentioning she was having some difficulties. I'm sure she appreciated the "break" by having lunch.
I heard you were in for some pretty warm temps coming up!

Have a great day!

Mema - Thank you so much for the recipe! You're right that it would be easy to cut in half and that's what I would do. I'll wait until I have hamburger buns to try it.
I'm very sorry to hear about your aunt. I'm sure it's very sad for your remaining aunt. Will you go to the funeral?
Good idea to be sure your DH is around for when you are getting things down from the attic! I certainly hope you won't be hurting yourself. It sounds like you already did quite a bit yesterday.
Thanks for checking out what our temp was yesterday. I forgot to do that before I started writing. Today it's +6 C, which I know makes it in the low to mid 40s. We're getting drizzle, but tonight we are expecting heavy rain.
No doubt you or Kate are right about the leg pain I have. My whole back is a mess with the scoliosis and kyphosis. Several years ago I had a 45 degree rotation of my thoracic spine, and I know it's worse now - my right breast is almost under my right arm.

Kate - I am very relieved I don't need more surgery! I'm sure there isn't a spine specialist in town. I will just keep walking, as I'm able.
I'm sorry the instructor for DGS swim class was so boring. I do hope you'll be able to find another instructor for him.
I'm glad you and your friend enjoyed each other's company so much. I'm glad she was able to take a break from her difficult situation.
I guess we are having the January thaw too, but other than yesterday, we've had very little cold weather yet. All the winter sports enthusiasts are unhappy!

I have spent most of the day online so far, but I'm finally getting caught up, so hope I can get up to date by tomorrow! I have done a bit of tidying. I'm waiting for my delivery from the pharmacy, and then I'll take out the garbage. Otherwise, I'll be reading of course.

I hope your days are going well.

Leslie – glad your appointment went speedily even though it meant a wait for the bus.

What great news that your circulation in your legs is adequate.

I would guess the pain must be from some nerve getting pinched somewhere when you walk. Like the numbness and tingling in my leg when I stood still. A spine specialist may have some answers for you.

DGS was in the highest level swim class for kids. He found the lessons boring – probably b/c the instructor he had is extremely boring and doesn’t interact well. I had the same instructor when I took adult lessons years ago so I know. I’m looking for some other person to re-ignite his love of swimming instead of just giving him drills to do. However – the email I sent came back as undeliverable and the phone call message I left has been unanswered. I guess I’ll have to go to the Y office and see if I can get it done in person.

Mema – sorry about your aunts. It must be hard for your Texas aunt lose another sibling.

Wise move to wait for help and not risk re-injuring your wrist.

I had a lovely lunch w/ my “oldest” friend yesterday. We put 2 hours on the parking meter and we had to rush to get back to the car. This is the friend I went Christmas tree shopping with in November. She’s got such a hard living situation that going out to lunch is a mini-vacation for her.

It was bitter cold yesterday but we’re having our January “thaw” this weekend. They’re talking about possibly breaking the record high temps of 61 for these date. But honestly there isn’t any snow left to thaw. We’ve been having more rain storms than snow storms this year.

I did my laundry today instead of the decorations. DH had Bible study in the morning, some errands to run and then his Investor's Club meeting in the afternoon. I want to make sure he's around so I can hand him down the cases that are up in the attic. I don't hurt my wrist again. I'm hoping we can do it tomorrow. And I also got my ironing done, too!

I did take out batteries of the decorations that use them and kind of gathered some things up and put them on the dining room table. That's where all my decorations go when I'm putting them all away. That frees up the end tables and things so I can clean those (we have glass tops on the end tables) and put back the things I had to take off.

It was pretty windy here today and going to be like that for the next couple of days.

I got some bad news from my aunt who lives down here in Brownsville. My other aunt (her sister) is not doing well. She is in Florida with her daughter. I guess she's fallen a couple of times, is in the hospital in the ICU. Her blood pressure was real low, too. There were only 3 girls in my mom's family, the rest were boys (6 of them). Three of them are gone along with my mom. If and when this aunt of mine goes, I know my other aunt is going to take it hard.

Actually, I just got a call from my DS - he told me he just saw on FB that my aunt passed away. Well, she is in a much better place - I know she was pretty frail when I saw her this summer at the burial for my mom and dad. I'm so grateful that she was able to make it up for that.

Leslie - I'm so glad your appointment went well, but I'm sorry they can't seem to find out why you have the pain. Could it have anything to do with your kyphosis? If your spine is curved, could that put more pressure or stress on your hips, which would put more pressure or stress on your legs, causing pain after you've been walking awhile? If your joints and/or muscles are not all lined up properly, I would think that would be hard on your legs??????

Here's my recipe for Sloppy Joe's -
1 lb. hamburger
1/2 cup finely chopped celery
1 cup ketchup
1 /4 cup water
2 T. brown sugar
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. yellow mustard
1/2 tsp. each - garlic powder and onion powder

Cook the hamburger and celery until no longer pink and celery is softened; drain grease. Stir in rest of ingredients and bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 30-40 minutes.

My recipe is a bit zippier and just a bit sweeter than DH's was. And you could easily cut it in half.
Sorry it was so cold there this morning. -13 C is +8 F - so that is cold. I'm glad you didn't have to be out in it much.

Kate - Nice that you had a quiet day to yourself!
Have you decided what to do for the 2 b-days? Do you know what the DF has planned?
I'm also wondering what type of swim lessons were you checking into? I never had lessons, but we always had a pool, so I guess I was more or less self-taught. Although, I'm a much better underwater swimmer than top of the water swimmer.

Have a good day!

Mema - I'm glad taking down the church decorations went well. Good luck taking down yours tomorrow! I was just thinking I didn't have any of that to do, but I still have my cards displayed, and my Christmas angel is still out, so I hope to take care of those things tomorrow. I want to keep one of the cards which is a drawing by my 7-year old great nephew! I just love it.
I'm glad Zumba went well, and seems to have helped your cough.
My appointment went well. I got taken in for the testing right away, and that took about an hour, and then I saw the doctor almost right after that. He said my circulation seems to be good, and doesn't have any other explanation for why I have such pain when trying to walk. He just told me to keep walking! I do walk as much as I can, but have to stop about every 30 feet to stop the pain in my legs. Oh well, I'm glad I do have legs and am very grateful an amputation is not in my near future!
How do you make sloppy joes? I used to make them a lot for the kids but haven't had them for years, and don't remember how I did them...

Kate - I'm glad you had a quiet day with the dogs! I am also good at ignoring to-do lists! Usually I'm busy reading when I'm not doing other things - is that perhaps what you were doing?
I'm glad you checked on swim lessons for DGS - is that to learn different strokes? He must know how to swim after all the times he's been to the pool.
What will you be doing for the birthday celebrations? Nice that you can do it on a Saturday.
You're right that I'm glad I won't need to cook anything today, since I have more of the chicken and the last of the broccoli. I have been having mango chutney with the chicken, which is nicely spicy and livens up the food.

It was really cold here this morning (-13 C. whatever that is in F.) but it's supposed to be warming up this afternoon. I didn't need to be out much since the bus is door-to-door service.
After I got through with my appointments so speedily this morning, I had to wait about 45 minutes for the bus to come home. There were 2 other people waiting for it too, both in wheelchairs, and the daughter of one of those women came too. I was glad to get home because I think I forgot to have breakfast this morning!

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – hope your appointment is good and you have a plan that will help your leg issues.

I guess if you come home exhausted from that appointment it will be a good thing to have that chicken breast waiting for you.

Mema – nice that your Zumba exercise helped clear out your lungs. Glad you had a better turn out for the class.

Good to get the decorations put away. That has been on my list since Saturday but hasn’t happened yet.

I had a quiet day w/ the dogs yesterday. DH was off at the company office. I walked to a morning meeting and then came home and proceeded to ignore many of the things on my to-do list. I did get a few done like calling the Y to check on private swim lessons for DGS and planning what we’ll do for DS’s and DGS’s birthday celebration. DF has a surprise evening on the town planned for that Friday night (the actual birthday) so we’re free to do a family thing for everyone on Saturday.

I had a good turnout for taking down the church decorations this morning. I think we were all finished in about an hour and a half! That was nice!
I came home and tried to lay down to rest up before Zumba, but that's when I would start coughing a lot! So, there was no resting. I did go up for Zumba and thought I would just see how it went. Actually, it went really well! There were 5 of us altogether - not bad for the new year!
Tonight all 3 of my "Chicago" shows start up again - Med, Fire and PD! I'm looking forward to watching those tonight.
I think I'm starting to feel better - it seems that I haven't really coughed near as much since coming back from Zumba.
Tomorrow I may do laundry and then on Friday I have to take down MY Christmas decorations!

Leslie - I hope everything goes well for you at your appointment tomorrow. I hope it's not too strenuous for you!
Hope you enjoyed your chicken tonight! Your baked potato and broccoli sounds good! We just had some left over sloppy joe's that my DH made while I was gone. Not as good as my recipe! LOL
I hope you don't get the freezing rain we had while I was up in MN - that was terrible!

Kate - Thank you for the AABB explanation. I have substituted the word food in place of alcohol sometimes when I'm reading literature. There have been times when it seems my addiction gets centered around food. But, yes, the after affects are much different.
There's something nice about having a hot meal when it's cold outside. I think I enjoyed my hot meals in MN much more than I do in TX!

Have a Thankful Thursday!

Mema - I'm sorry your cough has been lingering; I hope it's better today.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Bible study, and that pizza sounds good.
You've probably got all the church decorations down by now. The fruit and pastries sound good.
I hope the Zumba won't be too much for you this afternoon.
My back hurts every day, but some days are worse than others - yesterday was bad. I went to the exercise class this morning and feel pretty good today.
I'll be taking the bus at 7:20 tomorrow morning for an early appointment with the vascular surgeon. They do tests on my legs before I'll see him. I'm not sure when I'll get back, so I may not be up to writing tomorrow.
Apparently Quitnet is shutting down because they can't afford to run it any more. I wish they'd asked us if we'd be willing to pay an annual fee of $20 or something. I'm sure most of us would have done that. It's still running today, so I don't know when it will end.

Kate - I'm sure you're right about there being many recipes for kimchi. The one I have now doesn't have that slightly sour tang I was expecting.
Thanks for explaining AABB - that makes sense. You're right that the after effects of the binges would be very different from alcoholism to compulsive eating.
The salads you had for lunch sounded good, but I'm sure Thai food is more appropriate in winter!

I cooked a chicken breast last night, but got so filled up with half a baked potato and quite a lot of steamed broccoli, that I couldn't eat any of the chicken! It's quite a large breast, so I've divided it into 3 portions, and will be eating it all week I guess!

We're supposed to get rain on Friday with a high temp in the low 40s, then freezing rain on Saturday with high of about 28. Tomorrow sounds calm and around the freezing mark for my expedition.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – hope you don’t overdo the Zumba and start a coughing fit. Glad you were able to rest most of yesterday.

Leslie – nice that the snow will be over by the time you need to go out. Sorry your back is hurting again. I hope it’s better by tomorrow for your jaunt.

Kimchi is a national dish in Korea and I expect there are a number of different recipes from all over the country. Kind of like chili or BBQ here in the US – all different styles.

AABB – Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book – the group reads two paragraphs at a time and discusses them. The symptoms of the disease of compulsive eating aren’t that much different than alcoholism (although the aftereffects of a binge or spree are).

My friend and I went to a local cafe that does breakfast and lunch. We had different salads - both w/ chicken on them. They were very good although I would rather have the hot food from the Thai place especially in the winter.

I was able to go to Bible study this morning even though I'm still coughing, but not contagious anymore. It was a good study. I came home and basically rested the rest of the afternoon. We had a frozen DiGiorno pizza. Those are pretty tasty - I don't have to "doctor" them up at all. We always get the supreme.

Tomorrow morning I have to be back at church bright and early as we are taking down the Christmas decorations and I have to bring fruit and donuts or pastries which I will need to pick up on my way to church. Then I will have Zumba in the afternoon. I may have to take it kind of easy so I don't end up coughing too much.

Leslie - I'm sorry to hear your back is bothering you a lot. I hope after resting, it's feeling better today.
I do hope you will be able to connect with the friends you want on FB once your Quitnet site is closed for good. Do you know why it's shutting down?

Kate - Boy, 50's in January - that is pretty mild!
I'm curious, too about an AABB meeting???
Where did you and your friend end up eating lunch yesterday?

Have a wonderful day!

Mema - I'm glad your flight home was mostly all right, but that does sound painful with your ears - I'm glad you got them cleared!
I don't blame you for skipping Zumba yesterday. I hope you'll feel up to it on Wednesday.
I understand why you would feel that you should be at the Bible study since it's 'your' topic. However, if you're not feeling well, I hope you'll stay home and rest. If you do go, skipping the meeting sounds wise.
There is one site I had wanted to join to stay with some of my quitting friends, but it's only available to those in the U.S. There is another site a lot of people are going to, but the guy who set it up was a bully to one of my friends, so that doesn't appeal to me. There are at least a couple of groups on Facebook, so I think I'll just stay there. In the meantime, the Quitnet site is still going today! After all the good byes, I kind of wish it would end now. I could delete my account, but am too curious about what will happen.
We have had little bits of snow, but tonight and tomorrow there are supposed to be snow squalls. I'm glad that will be done by Thursday when I'll be going out. Your weather sounded lovely!
I'm glad you and DH were able to catch up with each other!
I'm glad the surgery won't be too far off for him, but it's too bad about the med he has to get off.

Kate - Nice that your DH remembered a card. I never really celebrated anniversaries with spouses/partners, other than having a meal out which was a real treat for me.
I'm glad you got back to the gym. What were you doing there?
What is AABB? 25 people sounds like a good group for an online meeting.
It sounds as if you're having a busy day today! I hope you find another good restaurant for lunch. I love Thai food too!
I had another bowl of the kimchi last night. I like it better now than I did at first, but it doesn't really taste at all like the kimchi I've had before.

My back is hurting a lot today. I have one more friend to write to, and then I'll be on my couch with a pillow behind my back so I can read.

I hope your days are going well!

Leslie – yes, DH did remember a card for me. But a year or two ago, he forgot and I remembered. After all these years, we’re pretty relaxed about it.

We had some light snow on Sunday night and Monday morning but not enough to stick on anything but the grass. It’s supposed to be back up to 50 by the end of the week. Amazingly mild for January.

Glad you were able to get back to your exercise class. I was back at the gym, too, for the first time since Christmas break (except for taking DGS to the pool.)

Mema – sorry your ears were so stopped up. I know my DH always takes a good decongestant when he has to fly when he’s sick. I do that trick of holding my nose and blowing.

Good idea to ration out your time and effort and just do the most important things when you’re not feeling well. Hope you do recover quickly.

Glad your DH has a date for his surgery. Too bad he has to wait for the drug to clear his system.

I did an AABB online meeting yesterday. My Monday meeting closed up at the end of November and I found this one. It’s a really good meeting w/ about 25 people on line.

Today I’ll do yoga class, have a conference call w/ my program buddies and then lunch w/ my friend from church. Our favorite Thai restaurant is closed for a few weeks while the owners go back to visit family in Thailand so I’m not sure where we’ll eat.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

My flight was delayed by 35 minutes, but we landed only 10 minutes later than we were supposed to, so we must have had a good tail wind. I did cough some on the flight, but it was pretty noisy in there that I don't think most people noticed! The only bad thing was I had some trouble while we were descending that I couldn't get my ears to pop. Finally, I held my nose closed and really blew and they finally popped! It was getting painful.

It was good to sleep in my own bed! I'm still pretty miserable, but I know I'm on the mend. I did pass on going up for Zumba today. I called the other leader and told her I would be there on Wednesday!

I've got Bible study tomorrow morning at church that I really need to be at. Mainly because I was the one who gave the topic to the Pastor! We're going to discuss topical issues of today. The series is entitled - "Got Questions?". So I really feel like I need to be there. I think I will skip my meeting and just come home so I don't wear myself out.

Leslie - I'm glad you got to exercise this morning.
I'm sorry your Quitnet site is closing down. I hope you'll find another site where your friends are gathering so you can still connect with them. Is there a way to find out where people are going once the site is closed? I'm sure that must be frustrating to not know exactly when the site is shutting down. The "week of Jan. 5th" seems awfully vague.
Did you end up getting some snow today? It was actually a very nice day here today. I think the temp was in the mid 70's, low humidity and a slight breeze. It will be cooler tomorrow, but I'm fine with that.

Kate - Happy "Belated" Anniversary!! I'm glad you had a good dinner. I've never had swordfish either. I'm not a huge fan of fish - I like certain kinds. My DS did fix me the walleye he had in his freezer on Saturday night before I left up there. It was good!
I think my DH would be the same way with me if I forgot a card, but I'm usually not the one who forgets things like that. Every month I give him a list of the kids' or grand kids' b-days for the month and then he does go out and buys cards.
I know my DH likes to get his receipt from the church - I think just to reconcile his records against the church's records for our offerings. Make sure they match.

I think I will watch something on Hulu or Netflix and go to bed early tonight. Last night it was midnight before I got to bed. I unpacked all my stuff and of course DH and I did quite a bit of catching up on everything that happened over the last 2 weeks. We don't talk much while I'm gone, maybe email once or twice if there is something urgent, so we had a lot to talk about last night.

Oh, and he did get a call back from the doctor's office regarding his melanoma. Looks like we'll be going to San Antonio around the end of January. They had thought they could get him in earlier, but because of a certain drug he takes, he has to be off of it for 14 days before having general anesthesia, so the end of January was the next available option. Looking like Jan. 30th.

Have a great day!

Mema - I hope your trip home went well, and you are feeling better!

Kate - emoticon to you and your DH. 47 years is a wonderful accomplishment! I'm sorry you forgot a card. Did he get one for you?

I know what swordfish looks like, but I don't think I eat enough fish to worry about the mercury content. I'd like to try it some time. The only fish I ever didn't like was turbot - it seemed too fatty or something.

The Quitnet group at FB has not been very busy, and I don't see a big rush there this morning. I was at the Quitnet site when I got up today at around 4, and was there almost 2 hours I think! There were so many messages from so many people it was hard to keep up! Then I did some other things, and got all ready for the class, intending to spend the last half hour of the Q's existence there, but I could no longer get into the site. I got a message from a friend a short time ago that the site is still going, and indeed it is. I've noticed that in their message to us which originally said they would shut the site down today at 9 AM, they have changed it to 'the week of January 5th', so I don't know when it will finally be done!

I'm glad you've got the church paperwork all sorted. I'm sure that was a relief.

The exercise class was fine today - it was good to be back. It was tiring today since I hadn't been exercising over the holidays.

It's another grey day and we're supposed to get snow.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – swordfish is one of those big predator fish that tend to be high in mercury so I rarely have it but it’s quite tasty.

I hope you find the Quitnet group on FB is a good group. I find a lot of FB groups are too big and busy for my taste. Did you get all the things copied that you wanted to save?

Mema – hope you had a comfortable trip back home w/o too much coughing on the plane.

I got all my paperwork and computer stuff done on Saturday so we were all set to get our collections recorded after church on Sunday. The only thing I have left to do is print out and deliver the tax receipt letters for 2019. A lot of people don’t need them anymore w/ the new tax system but a lot of people just like to have them anyway.

I ran out to do a bit of grocery shopping before church and I meant to stop and buy an anniversary card, too, but I forgot. Sigh! 47 years and no anniversary card for my wonderful husband. Good thing he knows me so well and still loves me.

Mema - I'm really sorry you were still feeling so miserable. I hope your travel will go well today! I'm sure you and your DH will be happy to see each other!
I'm glad you were able to get together with your friend.

Kate - I'm glad you had such a good meal. Swordfish sounds good, but I don't think I've ever had it.

There is a Quitnet group on Facebook, and I'm a member of that. I expect it will be a lot more active when the Quitnet site closes tomorrow morning. I won't be able to linger as the site closes at 9 since I'll be leaving then for my exercise class. I hope I won't be teary!

I can imagine the bangs from the lightning!

I need to get back to Quitnet to finish copying things I had saved that I still want to keep. Today will be the last day for that.

I hope all is well with both of you today!

Mema – sorry you’re so sick. Have a safe trip back home.

Leslie – the other team I’m on here on Spark People used to be on another site. When that closed down we migrated here as a group. Not all the people came over but a good number of them.

I do a weekly calendar also – I keep it on the kitchen table so I look at it at breakfast time.

The big sparks do cause loud bangs but because they’re so close you don’t get the “rolling” echoes that we hear w/ real lightening. The presenter has big protecting ear muffs they wear before they start the sparks and they warn people to cover their ears.

We had a lovely, quiet anniversary dinner. We'd only been to that restaurant once before - years ago - but it was as good as I remembered. I had swordfish and it was perfectly cooked.

I went to bed early last night and had a pretty good night's sleep, but I'm still pretty miserable.

Had a nice visit with my friend this morning over breakfast. Came back and took a nap.

DS and family went with their neighbors and all went bowling. Gave me some time to myself. I've got most of my stuff packed. I'm not looking forward to flying with this cold. The cold itself is not the worst thing it's this cough that I have. I don't want to be doing that around people and I'm sure they are not going to like hearing my cough. I have cough drops that I will bring with me.

I'm doing this from my phone so it's hard to respond to your posts. I will probably not post tomorrow because I land in Harlingen at 8:05 PM and by the time I get my luggage and we leave, it will probably be after 10 PM by the time we get home.

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm really sorry about your chest cold! I hope the NyQuil and Vicks help you. Is it tomorrow you fly back? I don't think it would be a very pleasant trip if you are sick!
I hope you slept well and are feeling better today.

Kate - I am actually getting used to the new mouse, but I did look up 'mouse settings' out of curiosity. It looked like I had to click a link to another site, but I wasn't comfortable doing that.

That lightning display must be amazing - is there thunder to go with it? I'm glad you all had a good time there.

I was also having a hard time with figuring out what day of the week it was, but by now, I'm starting to get ready (mentally) for the exercise class on Monday, so I think I've caught up to myself! I also got my new weekly appointment calendar sorted out yesterday, so that helped to tune me in also.

I'm sure there is a lot of work for you to do re: the church collections at the end of the year, and getting set up for the new year.

How wonderful that you'll go out tonight to celebrate your anniversary. I love seafood! Congrats on 47 years on Monday!

The site I've been on since 2007 for quitting smoking is shutting down, so I've been going through posts I'd saved to see if there are any I want to copy down. I spent an hour on that this morning, and plan to spend another hour tomorrow. The site will close Monday morning at 9. I'll miss all the people I've been chatting with for all these years. People are scattering to different sites. I've been spending about the first hour of every day there, so I'll be changing my routine.

There's a tiny bit of blue sky today, and it's still a little above freezing!

I hope you're both having good days, and I hope you're feeling better today, Mema!

Leslie – we did have a nice time at the museum. Ours has “the world’s largest air insulated Van De Graaff generator” so they do a very impressive lightning display.

There is usually a way to change the settings on the mouse if you want to try. You find the place on your computer that allows you to search the computer (not your internet search). On my computer it is an icon that looks like a little magnifying glass in the task bar. Click on that and type in “mouse settings”.

Mema – so sorry you’ve caught a cold. I have a friend who rubs Vicks on her feet and puts socks on before bed when she has a cold. Hope you’re well enough to enjoy your visit w/ your friend.

These last two weeks with the holidays, DGS being here and DH being off work have been lacking in my normal cues as to what day of the week it is. I keep stopping to think - what day is this?

DGS spent the night again and today I will be busy. I have all the year end things to do for my “job” as church collector. The computer program that tracks the individual giving has to be rolled over to a new year and new recording forms have to be printed to use this Sunday. I have to set up a new notebook for storing the forms for this next quarter.

Monday is our anniversary – 47 years! Yikes! We’re going to go out for dinner at a nice seafood restaurant this evening to celebrate.

I'm just going to make this short. My cough has turned into a full blown chest cold. emoticon I bought myself some NyQuil and Vick's vapor cream ( like the rub, only not greasy). So I'm going to go to bed early tonight.
I do have to meet my friend for breakfast in the morning.
I do like my hair cut. I'm going to try to grow it out more. The gal suggested I try a "bob" with it shorter in the back and then tapering longer to the front. So I'll have to let it grow.
I think I'm going to try and go to bed. emoticon

Have a great day!

Mema - That does sound like quite an amazing experience in The Void! I'm glad your DS and you both enjoyed it, and it was great you could do it together.
How is your DIL today? I don't know what sort of relationship the two of you have, but maybe you could discuss the visiting and visiting over Christmas and see how she feels about it. I'm sure it would be hard for her to say anything negative about your visit though.
I'm sorry you're getting a cough. I hope it won't develop into anything more. Flying with a cold could be miserable!
I hope you'll be happy with your haircut today. Are you still going toward that style you showed us a while back?
Nice that Dakota knows you like to sleep in!
I know - I shouldn't complain about my DS calling late; I should be, and am very, grateful that he calls! The problem for me is that I don't know what sort of mood I'll be in at the end of the day. I might be relaxed and happy, or I might be overtired and tense and just anxious to be in bed. Our conversation was not as pleasant as usual because I was definitely overtired. We had a disagreement about something minor, but I felt put down. We have emailed back and forth since then, and all is well.

Kate - It sounds a wee bit complicated to have the dogs and the cleaners on the same day, but it's great that they finished early yesterday. I'm glad you and DGS had the pool almost to yourselves!
I wonder if the Science Museum there is similar to the one in Toronto. There are a lot of interactive exhibits. I remember taking my kids to it when they were 7 and 8 and we all loved it. The part I remember best was the exhibit on static electricity, with all of our hair standing on end - it was quite funny. I'm sure you'll have a great time today!
I decided today was ordering day, so after I ordered meds and groceries, I ordered the new mouse and called the delivery service to pick it up for me. It took me some time to find the antenna for it, then I had to take the paper from the end of the battery so it would make a connection, and then I had to wait for my laptop to recognize the new device, and finally I realized it was in the 'off' position - once I turned it on, it worked right away. The wheel almost spins too quickly! I am still getting used to it.

I also used my Amazon gift card and ordered a book for my DGS's birthday in 10 days, and as long as I was there, I ordered a couple of books for me too! I have no clue when I'll read all these books.

It's another grey day and just a little bit above freezing. I don't think there will be any very cold weather any time soon. I hope it will be mild when I go out for my appointments too.

I hope you're both having good days!

Mema – glad it was such a good experience. It sounds fairly intense.

Sorry your DIL doesn’t seem well. I’m storing up info from all the other people about MILs and DILs since I’m going to have one for the first time.

One of the dogs is very nervous around strangers and can nip so we keep them shut up in one room and then move them outside to the dog run when the cleaners are ready to do that one room.

Leslie – my mouse has a rechargeable battery so from time to time I have to attach it to the computer w/ a cord and let it recharge. It reminds me of the days when I didn’t have a wireless mouse.

I wondered why it was UTC instead of CUT but it might be b/c a lot of the romance languages tend to put the qualifiers at the end – Noun and then Adjectives.

Nice to have new books to read. Too bad about your volunteer’s marriage situation. You’re right that the holidays always seem to make problems at home seem worse.

Yesterday the house cleaners came a bit early so the afternoon was free. After DH got back from his dentist appointment, DGS and I headed over to the pool. Since the local kids were back in school already, the pool was empty except for one older woman doing water walking at the end. We tried to stay out of her way as much as possible. Today we’ll take DGS to the Science Museum and make a day of it. He’s going to spend the night, too.

Well, it was an awesome experience this morning at The Void! It's hard to describe other than you actually feel like you are in a Star Wars episode and when you look at your fellow participants, they all look like Stormtroopers! We had another couple with us and that turned out to be great! At several points in the experience we have to "shoot" at the "bad" stormtroopers with our laser guns and they were shooting back at us and we would feel a slight buzz/shock when we were hit! It was weird! My DS wasn't sure what to expect and afterwards said it was one of the coolest experiences he's had. So I was very glad we went together.

When we got home my DIL was home from work - I guess she wasn't feeling well. Not sure if she will go to work tomorrow or not. I'm thinking she will. I've developed a cough that I think I got from my DGS. It's upper respiratory and a dry cough. I've taken some ibuprofen for it and have been sucking on cough drops.

Tomorrow I'll get my haircut and come home and wait for the kids to get home from school. Oh I have to tell you a cute story. Tonight when Dakota was getting ready for bed she asked if I would come in and rub her back. I told her I would for a minute or two. While I was doing that I mentioned if I didn't happen to see her in the morning before school, I would be here when she and Ryan got off the bus in the afternoon. She said to me, Oh, I know you like to sleep in, so that's Ok if I don't see you in the morning. I just had to laugh!

Leslie- I'm sure you're right about my DIL and having me around. Even though I've been coming up here in the winter for 6 years and for the same amount of time, she's had more time off because of the holidays, so we've had more time together. And this is the first time I have been here for Christmas. I'm not sure I'll do that again, but I'll see when the kids start their vacation and go from there. You made a good point, though - it got me thinking.
Sorry about your DS calling so close to your bedtime. Maybe time got away from him, but he still wanted to call.
So sorry to hear about your library volunteer and her husband being separated. I think this time of the year there is a lot of high emotions with people - always so much to do and not enough time to do it all.

Kate - I hope you had a good day with everything you had going on. What do you do with the dogs when the housekeepers are there?
The science museum sounds like it will be a fun place foe your DGS. Enjoy!

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm sorry your DS didn't catch anything, but I'm glad he enjoyed the time out there.
That is curious that your DIL would bathe the kids and have them in pj's, then go out to eat.
If she's been moody, maybe it is wearing on her having a visitor, even though you're doing a lot to help out. I know that when my MIL used to visit, a few days were plenty for me. Some people are more open to having people around than others. Have you stayed that long before this time? I know you won't be there much longer.
I hope the haircut will be a good one for that price. I pay $20, for just the cut, but she comes here to do it, and I truly appreciate that!
I'm sorry you didn't make it to midnight New Year's eve - you were so close!

Kate - My mouse does have a battery, and I just changed that about a week ago when the mouse was starting to annoy me, but it didn't help. After reading your post, I also cleaned it, but that didn't help either. I didn't order one yet; I've decided to do all my ordering tomorrow.
Our snow seems to be melting again. It's a little above freezing.
Thanks for the info on UTC! But why isn't it called CUT?
You'll be having a busy day today, with DGS, the dogs, the house cleaners, your conference call and DH's dental appointment! My grandsons had to go back to school today and weren't very happy about it. The kids here are off until Monday like your DGS.
I'm sure DGS will enjoy the science museum tomorrow!

I talked to my DS last evening. I had told him when I called earlier in the day that I'd be up until 7 (it takes me a while to get ready for bed - it's usually closer to 8 when I get there), so he called at about 5 minutes to 7! I was so tired I had stopped a show I was watching on Netflix, so I wasn't really in the mood to be talkative then. I don't know why he waits until so late to call - he knows I'm up very early, so he could also call in the morning, before the day gets busy, and it was a holiday yesterday...

My library volunteer was here this morning to bring me another 3 books the library was holding for me. I asked about her holidays and she became tearful and told me she and her husband needed 'some space', so they are separated now. It's such a hard time of year for all that to be taking place. She is such a sweet person. I gave her tissues and we had a hug. I got caught up in the emotion and forgot to give her the milk chocolate truffles a friend sent me. Oh well, they'll keep until the next time she comes.

I hope you're both having good days, and you enjoyed The Void, Mema!

Mema – have a fun time at your virtual experience. I’m glad your DS had a good time even though he didn’t catch any fish.

I use a mouse with my laptop, too. I hate the touch pad – I often end up accidently moving something when I’m typing and my wrist brushes it. I have to hit the function button to disable the touch pad every time I turn my lap top on.

Hope you like your haircut. $45 is pretty standard for haircuts around here.

Leslie – I don’t mind the rain instead of snow as long as the temps stay warm enough that it doesn’t get icy.

Is your mouse a battery powered one? It might need new batteries or to be recharged. Or it might just need a good cleaning of the bottom surfaces.

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the basis for civil time today. This 24-hour time standard is kept using highly precise atomic clocks combined with the Earth's rotation. The world's timing centers have agreed to keep their time scales closely synchronized - or coordinated - therefore the name Coordinated Universal Time.

Our day of rest is over and we'll be back to a more normal schedule today. DGS and the dogs will be here. The housecleaners will be here, too. I have a conference call this morning and DH has a dental appointment so we're not doing anything special w/ DGS. Tomorrow we'll take him to the science museum. A lot of the suburban schools are back in session today so we thought it might be slightly less crowded than earlier in the week.

Well, DS didn't have any luck with his fishing, but he loves the sport of it. His buddy caught a 19" walleye, but had to throw it back. The guidelines are very strict up here on what you can keep. I thought DIL was going to make supper tonight because she gave the kids their bath at 2:30 in the afternoon and then put them in their pj's! But once DS got home we ended up going out for pizza - the place we went has fantastic pizza, but it just didn't make sense to me. She, DIL seemed a bit moody off and on today. I don't know if she was mad that DS went fishing or what. Oh, well NOMB (none of my business).
It is 9:00 and everyone is in bed! I'm just not used to going to bed that early. But it does give me the chance to post!
The kids will be at school tomorrow and Friday and will take the bus home so they will be home by 2:30. On Friday, I'm getting my haircut from DIL's neighbor. She's supposed to be very good and for $45, I hope she is! I either spend $15 in WI or $11 in TX! But those haircuts don't include a shampoo, scalp massage and style.

Leslie- After pizza tonight, we came home and had the Buckeye pie. I had a very small piece - it was delicious, but you and Kate were right - it was VERY rich.
I was having trouble with my mouse, too and ended up just getting a new one. I also use a mouse for my laptop. I have never really gotten used to using the pad on the laptop. I also end up getting frustrated.

Kate- I did manage to stay up until 11:50 last night, so I never made the new year.
I'm glad your DGS found another boy to play with at the trampoline park. Ryan has so much more energy than Dakota. He basically runs everywhere he goes - in the house or outside!
Sounds like your DD was going to have a nice New Year's, too at the Korean grocery.

I think I will do some reading downstairs in my bed and try to go to sleep a little bit early. I will be up fairly early to see the kids off to school, and then DS and I will leave for the MOA (Mall of America) by 8:30 am. We have a reservation for 10:00 am.

Have a great day!

Mema - It sounds like you and the grandkids are being very active!
The Void you will be going to with your DS does sound quite fascinating.
I hope the furnace is working well now.
Making the jewelry with Dakota sounds like a lot of fun. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you all to go to Applebee's, but Taco Bell does sound like a fun alternative.
I hope your DS is having a happy birthday and enjoying the ice fishing.
That Buckeye pie sounds VERY rich!
I did have a very good time with my housekeeper yesterday. She helped me out with a few things I hadn't been able to do, so I really appreciated that.

Kate - I'm sorry you were getting rain. We have more snow on the ground now but it doesn't really look like a lot.
I was aware of the lactose intolerance in other races. It must be hard to avoid cheese, ice cream, and other things. I don't drink milk at all, but use half & half in my coffee.
I'm glad your DD was safe on the roads. I don't blame you for not wanting to go out again in the sleet and ice.
It's great that you and your friends celebrate the New Year on Greenwich Mean Time! (I need to look up what UTC stands for.) I should do that too. I was in bed by 8 last night.
It sounds like you and your DGS had a wonderful time at the trampoline park!
I envy your DD being able to go to a big Korean grocery!

I hope I haven't missed anything important. My mouse is not working very well - I can't scroll with it, and it's hard to get it to move pages up or down with the bar on the right. I'll see if I can order a new one tomorrow and get the delivery service to bring it to me. I know I should be able to use the pad on the laptop, but I get way too frustrated with that!

Happy New Year to you both and I hope you're having good days.

I took DGS to the trampoline park yesterday afternoon. He loves the dodge ball court that has trampolines and really soft balls to throw at each other. Fortunately he found a boy about his size who had the same love and skill level. They spent most of the hour doing that while I peacefully jumped. He was hot, sweaty and tired out when we left.

We dropped DGS off at DD's office and drove over to our friend's house. We had a lovely time w/ them and their two adult daughters. We toasted in the New Year on UTC (what we used to call Greenwich Mean Time) and were home in bed before the new year arrived here in Boston. LOL.

DD was planning to take DGS to the big Korean grocery store after she finished work. They have a small food court w/ all kinds of foods that they both love. And then spend the gift certificate I gave her on specialty groceries.

Mema – jewelry making sounds like fun.

I have a friend who does that light and music sync at their house. It’s amazing to see. They live stream it during the Christmas season.

I’ve seen recipes for Buckeyes which are a kind of peanut butter and chocolate cookie/candy so the pie must be similar. Sounds very rich.

Leslie – hope you had a good day w/ your housekeeper.
