Today was a quieter day. I did take the kids to Dollar Tree and Walmart. Then when Ryan was napping I helped Dakota make some earrings and a bracelet from a kit she got for Christmas. Then we were all going to go out to Applebee's for dinner, but there was not a parking place at all in the parking lot! 5:30 on New Year's Eve - so probably not the best idea! LOL It was going to be an early celebration for DS's b-day. We ended up going to Taco Bell, which was very close and the kids were more excited about anyway.

Did I tell you about the light display we went to after having our burgers last Saturday? It was over a million lights all in sync with music. We drove the car around a half mile area. We actually drove thru it 3 times because there were so many different displays to see. The kids loved it and we all did, too!

Tomorrow, my DS is going ice fishing for awhile. He's getting up at 4 am to be over to his friends by 5 am. They do have about a 2 hour drive North to get to the lake. He loves to fish so that's something he gets to do on his b-day for awhile.

My DIL is going to make him a "Buckeye" pie. I guess it's kind of like a huge Reese's peanut butter cup!

Kate- I've watched a short preview video of the virtual reality venue and I'm pretty sure it's going to be great.
So far so good on the furnace. We'll know more in a couple of days. That's how long it took in between failure's the last time. But I do think this time it's fixed for good.
My grandkids would also play all day on the computer if we let them, too.
I usually watch the ball drop in Times Square every New Year's, but not this year. I'll have to be up early when the kids get up.
I hope you had fun celebrating with your friends.

Leslie - I hope you enjoyed your time with your housekeeper.

Happy New Year!

Mema – that virtual reality venue sounds cool. Hope you enjoy it and it lives up to expectations.

Did the furnace man get the heat working correctly? Not good weather to be w/o heat.

Playing out in the snow sounds like fun. That’s the only thing that makes me wish it was snow and not rain we’re having.

Leslie – it’s not uncommon for people of other races to become lactose intolerant as they age. Our ability to drink milk as adults is a genetic mutation in white Europeans.

DGS will happily play on the computer all day if we let him. I just need to be sure he takes breaks to get some physical activity and to do some reading.

DD did get here safely yesterday morning although she said they passed a number of accidents on the way. DGS spent the night.

Today I’m planning to get him out to the trampoline park. That was planned for yesterday but I went out just across town to the grocery store in the morning and the sleet and ice were so bad I decided we wouldn’t go out again. DH and DGS had a Nerf gun fight and a "snowball" fight to get them moving.

We are meeting w/ friends for a New Year’s Eve dinner so we’ll drop off DGS at DD’s office around 4:30 on the way. They celebrate on Greenwich Mean Time - 5 hours earlier - so we'll be toasting the New Year at 7PM. emoticon emoticon

Hello again! The kids and I just got back in from sledding in their backyard. First I shoveled the driveway again. Hopefully the kids should sleep good tonight after being outside twice today. And they played hard both times.

I'm not sure if my DS and DIL are going to do anything for New Year's Eve or not, but I told them if they wanted to do something, they might as well take advantage of having me here. Although, my DIL did mention about all of us going out to eat for my DS's b-day since it's the next day.

On Thursday, my DS has the day off and he and I are going to the Mall of America to experience The Void. It's a new virtual reality venue that opened up and it sounds really cool! It will be like being in a Star Wars scene. It's only 15 minutes long, but we're both excited to try I

Leslie - We were having some high winds here too. But my DS lives out in the country and is up high, so the wind really blows.
I'm pretty sure the furnace should be fixed now. There was an issue of the unit was not quite leveled (because of the house settling, it's only 7 years old) and so there was a drain where water is supposed to drain and it wasn't always doing that and that is what was causing the intermittent problem. I don't quite understand it all, but when the service guy explained it,it made sense. LOL

Kate- I hope you don't get the bad weather we had here - it was terrible.
Sounds like you'll be kept busy with your DGS. They certainly have a lot of energy.
I hope your housekeepers do a good job for you. My DIL took all her Christmas decorations yesterday. I'll have that job to do when I get back home.

My DGD is wanting me to play with her before she has to go to bed, so I'll try to post again tomorrow.

Happy New Year's Eve!

Kate - our freezing rain warning has now been cancelled, but the wind warning continues, with gusts up to 55 mph. Tomorrow we're supposed to get snow. I guess winter is returning! I hope your DD is doing all right driving.

I'm glad your DGS does eat dairy and eggs, which gives a few more options in his diet, but it's too bad he's becoming lactose intolerant.

I'm glad your cleaners will also be there this week. I also have some things I need to organize before my housekeeper gets here. I don't want to take down my cards yet though, so I'll recycle them in a few more days.

I'm sure that between you and your DGS, you'll think of things for him to do this week. New Year's Day would be tough though since things are apt to be closed for the holiday. I hope you can get to your meeting and then enjoy either the swimming or trampoline!

Mema - good to hear from you again!
I'm very sorry there have been some problems with the furnace, and how frustrating that it's intermittent! I do hope it's been fixed today!

I guess you're getting the snow now that's supposed to be here tomorrow. I'm sorry your DS had to go to work on the day of the freezing rain - that was an extra long commute for him!
I'm glad you cancelled the plans with your friend.

I hope you'll enjoy playing outside with the kids. I hope the wind won't be too rough. 30 degrees is a pretty good temp for being outside.

It's funny that in most ways, I do have a sweet tooth, but sweetening veggies doesn't usually appeal to me, other than glazed carrots - I do like those, or did - haven't made them for a long time! Obviously you're in good company with the marshmallows or the brown sugar - a lot of people love those!

I hope you'll enjoy Wanted. I think there are 3 seasons.

I've just taken care of a few things around here this morning, and soon I'll be reading.

I hope you're both having good days!

I thought I should try to get caught up with both of you. There is a furnace man here right now fixing my DS's furnace. Sigh! It went out the day after Christmas, but DS didn't know to try and get the "code" (blinking light) off the furnace which helps the repair company. The guy came out and did a bunch of tests and checking and it seemed tobe ok, until this morning. I knew about codes from my DH, but didn't even think about it. So it was an intermittent problem, which is the worst kind. Last night when it went out, DS got the code and the repair man has been able to fix it. At least that's what I hope he's doing!

It's snowing to beat the band here today! Looks like light, fluffy stuff. We got all that freezing rain on Sat. morning! My DS had to work that day and it took him over 2 hours to get to work. Normally, he does have about a 50-55 minute drive, but he said it was just terrible. Luckily, I cancelled my plans with my friend. We are going to meet for breakfast this Sat.

I'm sure the kids are going to want to play outside! It's not too cold out. 30 degrees, but it is windy.

Kate- I hope your DD is very careful driving. There were reports of over 300 accidents in a 5 hour period here in the Twin Cities.
I hope you have fun with your DGS swimming or playing on the trampoline.
I love the PJ's of your DS and DF and dogs! Very cute!
I'm the gal who loves to top my sweet potatoes with marshmallows or the caramel in the restaurant or I make a brown sugar/melted butter and pecan topping. I guess I go all in for the sweet.

Leslie - I will check out Wanted on Netflix. Thanks!
I'm glad you won't have to be going out if it's icy. I'm so glad I stayed home.

Sorry, but I have to cut this short. The furnace guy is finishing up. I finally got my laptop out so it will be a little easier to post.

Have a great day!

Mema - glad you're having a nice vacation time w/ your DS and family.

Leslie – there are warnings up all around here about freezing rain and ice today and tomorrow. I worry about DD driving in this weather although she drives mostly on major highways which will be treated.

DGS does eat dairy and eggs so it’s the spinach and cheese pizza I was mentioning. He’s becoming more and more lactose intolerant as he get older so we’re having to watch how much cheese he eats.

Glad you have your housekeeper coming this week. I have my cleaners coming on Thursday. I need to go around the house and tidy up the bits and pieces that are still out from Christmas. Some of DGS’s toys need to be packed away and the puzzle that I got for DH is still on the end of the dining table.

This is another week of having my DGS here. I'm not sure about New Year's Day. My DD has lots of paperwork deadlines so she may be working that day, too. I think we'll be heading out for swimming or trampoline sometime today. I do have a meeting I should be at just after lunch but the rest of the day is free.

Mema - I hope the burgers at that restaurant were as good as advertised!

Kate - I love all the pajamas, for DS, DF, and all the dogs!! emoticon

I really love those pizzas too, and I've also been known to eat a whole one for a meal when I've been very hungry. I haven't seen a plain spinach one, just spinach with provolone. Does your DGS avoid cheese too?

Your DH must really have a sweet tooth to have the brown sugar on his sweet potatoes! I also remember buying canned yams when I was much younger, and think I have had the 'candied' ones, but now I just always bake a fresh yam and eat it in two sittings.

I'm glad you are enjoying the quiet over the weekend. I forget what activities you have planned for your DGS for this week.

I am enjoying my quiet day too! My housekeeper will be here on Tuesday, so that will break up the week a bit for me. I'll be her only client that day; I asked if she wanted the day off, but she said she wanted to come, so I'll be happy to see her.

We have a freezing rain warning for this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow morning at least. I'm glad I have no plans to be out then.

I hope you're both having very good days.

Mema - Hi.

Leslie – those are my favorite pizzas. Although they have changed the name on them here in the states. They now call them Virtuoso. I get the spinach one for DGS. He’ll eat the whole pizza.

It never occurred to me that there would still be any ice harvesting being done. I thought it was only a thing of the past. But of course, the Amish would need ice since they don’t use electricity.

There is a steak restaurant we go to that has baked sweet potatoes as one of their sides. They always ask if you want it w/ cinnamon and brown sugar and my DH always says yes. And if you buy canned yams, you have to be careful that you don’t get the “candied” ones. My mom used to buy canned yams so that’s the only ones I ate growing up.

We had a quiet day. I went to a meeting in the morning and we did all the laundry. Today is church and then another quiet day. We'll have DGS all of next week (except maybe New Years Day) so I'm cherishing the quiet.

The MOB got everyone in her family matching PJs to wear on Christmas morning. DS and DF wore them when they came over here. Even the dogs got matching ones.

Mema - it's great to hear from you! It sounds like you're having a wonderful time, and seeing a lot of people!
I'm sorry some of the people are overdoing it with the gifts for the kids. There isn't anything you can do or say about it though, unfortunately.
I'm sorry you aren't able to get together with your friend today due to bad weather, but I hope the other date you've picked will work out for you.
When you get back to watching Netflix, you might want to check out Wanted, an Australian show with lots of suspense - I am really enjoying it!

Kate - I agree that squash doesn't need to be any sweeter than what it is by itself. And I've never been subjected to the yam casseroles with marshmallows, but I never want to try them either. I just like my usual toppings, butter, salt, pepper. I've never heard of adding sugar to yams! That sounds dreadful.
I'm glad your DGS has that book to listen to. Good for him! The audio players sound great.
The electric train displays sound like quite something! My dad had a set of very small train parts (cars and engines) and a narrow track. The only place he could set it up was on our dining room table, so it couldn't stay up long.
A friend on another site has been posting a few photos of the Amish harvesting ice in Maine. The photos are quite amazing, and the gorgeous work horses stand patiently, waiting to haul the load of ice. That's amazing that the ice that is harvested near you goes all over the world! And that Queen Victoria wanted only that ice!

Another quiet day for me. I had half of a frozen pizza last night (Dr. Oetker Ristorante, thin crust) - it was delicious and I'll have the rest tonight.

I hope you're both having good days today.

Mema – nice to hear from you. I’m glad you’re having fun. It does sound like you’re packing a lot into your visit.

Leslie – I’ve tried maple in butternut squash but it doesn’t really need anymore sweetening in my opinion. But then, I also find the idea of putting sugar on yams makes it much too sweet.

The library doesn’t really have anything going on this holiday. But we did get the museum pass for our trip yesterday. And we checked out a couple of books to read. DGS had been asking for Tuck Everlasting. Thier copy of the book was checked out but they had a little audio player of the book so he’s been listening to that. He’s already on chapter 7. I’d never seen the little players – it’s smaller than the size of a pack of cigarettes w/ some simple controls and a place to plug in headphones.

We had a nice lunch out w/ DGS and then visited the little museum. They have a number of amazing electric trains set up in all different sizes and landscapes – even one set in the mountains w/ the winter Olympics portrayed – ski jumps, hockey rinks, etc.

And their special exhibit was on ice harvesting. I had pointed out the big lake in the town as we drove by and then reminded him over lunch of the opening scenes of Frozen where they are harvesting ice. It was nice when we got there to see they were actually playing that scene followed up by films of the actual ice harvesting on the lake. I hadn’t realized that the ice from that lake was sent around the world – as far as China and New Zealand – and that it was so pure that Queen Victoria would only use that ice in her beverages.

Hello, hello!

It's been a busy time since I've arrived, but also a lot of fun.

My flight was delayed leaving TX for some reason and so instead of getting in at 2:30, it was almost 3:30. That did not help as far as traffic. We ran into a bit of it driving to DS's home. The kids arrived with my DIL just shortly after we did so it really did work out in the end. They were just as excited as I was!

Christmas Eve, DIL's family came over. We had brisket, cheesy potatoes, macaroni and cheese, rolls and salad. It was all good. They ( DIL's mom and husband) spend a fortune on gifts! With so many grandparents, the kids don't need all those presents. But none of my business.

Christmas day we went to church and then over to my DS's step mom's house for lunch. She had ham, prime rib, sweet potatoes, cheesy potatoes, 2 kinds of salads and rolls. Then pumpkin pie and French silk pie for dessert! But she has 2 sons from her first marriage and they have families, so she had a houseful! Again, she spent way too much on presents for all the kids (sons, DIL'S and grandkids). I did enjoy seeing everyone there, too.

Thursday, DS and DIL had to work, so I was with the kids all day. DS had today off, so we stayed up last night until almost midnight talking. Today he had a couple of errands to run in the morning and then when he got home, we all ate lunch and then we drove over to Ft. Snelling Nat'l Cemetery to see my mom and dad's headstone and the wreath that was put up. It still looks good! But it's about an hour's drive over there from his house. So that took up the rest of the afternoon.

Then tonight, my ex-husband (DS's dad) and his 3rd wife came over to give Dakota and Ryan their Christmas gifts. They did not go over board, which was nice to see. We all visited about 3 hours. It was a nice evening.

I was supposed to meet my girlfriend for breakfast tomorrow morning, but we're supposed to be getting a wintry mix of freezing rain and snow. I did not want to drive in that so we are going to get together next Saturday. Tomorrow, late afternoon DS and all of us are going to eat at The Lion's Tap restaurant for dinner - they have some of the best burgers around and then we're going to a place where we can see all kinds of Christmas lights and displays. Hopefully the weather will lighten up by then.

Kate - sounds like your holiday was very nice.

Leslie - I'm glad you talked with your DS and your sister.

Time for bed, but I wanted to post something.

Have a great day!

Kate - I'm sure it was good to get out yesterday! I really miss being able to get out for walks. I agree too that it's important for your DGS to use some energy outside.

I know that is a tiny bit of maple syrup - I'm not sure I could even pour 1 tsp. from the bottle! Maybe I'll try it. I love syrup on breakfast foods (pancakes, etc.) but usually don't care for it on other things. However I once got a package of maple bacon, by mistake, and did like that. One year I cooked Thanksgiving dinner for my boyfriend and his family, and he insisted that I add maple syrup to the squash - I didn't care for that. I just like butter, salt, pepper - and lemon juice on most green veggies -.

It sounds as if you have some good plans for your DGS during his break. Have you checked with the library to see if they are offering any good programs? I hope you enjoy the museum today!

It's grey and drizzly here and our snow is gone now. Do you have any left?

I'm just having another quiet day with lots of reading this afternoon. I hope your day goes very well.

Mema - hi!

Leslie – the tiny bit of maple syrup was good on the sprouts and especially nice on the carrots. Not really enough to make them too sweet – but enough to enhance their natural sweetness.

The speaker is about 8 or 9 inches tall and about 6 inches on each side – easy enough to move around wherever I want music.

We had a quiet day. DGS didn’t get dropped off until around 10. We walked out to do all the errands late in the morning. Walked to a restaurant for lunch and then to the post office, town hall to pay the water bill and then the library. It did us all good to get out and move. DGS loves being on the computer at our house so I have to make sure we get out and use up some of his energy. Today we have a trip planned to a small town family museum. It’s not one we’ve been to before but a friend said it was nice.

Next week we promised him a trip to the trampoline park and to the Museum of Science. Probably we’ll go swimming one of the days, too.

Mema - I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, being with your DS and the kids!

Kate - it sounds like you had a very good day too. Thanks for the tip on roasting the sprouts - sounds very good, although I might not use the maple syrup, but I LOVE the balsamic flavour.
I'm glad your whole dinner turned out well, and I'm glad you were all able to be together. Poor DS and DF, heading off for another big meal!

That speaker you were given sounds perfect! I assume it's small if you'll be moving it around the house with you. My stereo also died, but I have a 'boombox' to use and it's making some odd noises at times, so I hope it isn't also on the way out!

I'm sorry your DD only had one day off. We have Boxing Day here, and I think it's great as a day to unwind, but it's also a huge shopping day, similar to Black Friday in the US. I am certainly not going anywhere today!

What sort of activities will your DGS be participating in over his holidays? It sounds good that you won't have the dogs as well this week.

I hope you are having a very good day!

Mema - hope your holiday was lovely.

Leslie – nice that your sister called and chatted as well as your son. Glad you’re enjoying some special music today. It sounds like a lovely peaceful day.

My DH got me a speaker that I can move around the house that will play music that we have stored on the computer as well as radio stations. I’ve missed having music around since our stereo system died. The computers we have now don’t even have a CD player.

I always liked Brussels Sprouts but they’re even better roasted. I used a bit different recipe this time. I mixed 1 tsp each of balsamic vinegar and maple syrup into a couple of tablespoons of the oil. I put that in a plastic bag with the veggies and shook them all up to coat them. That little bit of extra flavor was really nice. The whole dinner turned out quite nicely and we had left overs in the evening for supper.

DS and DF only stayed a few hours. Her family was doing an early dinner at 3 or 4. Way too much to eat so close to our dinner. LOL DD and DGS were here until suppertime. DD will be dropping DGS off again this morning since she only had the one day off from work. DS took the whole week off so he won't be bringing the dogs over this week at all.

Mema - thinking of you and wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Kate - I'm glad you enjoyed the seafood at the party - it sounded good!

Are the different religious traditions causing any difficulties for your DS and DF?

Your ham dinner for today sounds very tasty. I love roasted veggies. When I was talking to my DS not long ago, we both said how we hadn't liked Brussels sprouts when we were younger, but love them now, and agreed that roasting makes the difference; previously we'd just had them boiled, I guess.

I'm glad you were able to take DGS to the pool yesterday, so you could have a good time together there. The tacos for dinner sounded wonderful! And how great that both your kids came to church with you of their own volition.

I hope your DD got everything wrapped!

I am picturing you having your dinner now. I will have mine a little later today.

My sister did call quite early this morning and we had a fairly lengthy chat. She and her DH were going to be very busy both today and tomorrow, visiting family members from both sides, and friends too! I don't envy her one bit.

My son called a while ago, and we must have talked for at least half an hour. They are looking forward to having their brisket in another hour or two. It was wonderful to have such a long and relaxed conversation with him!

I have quite a few classical CD's which I have been playing today, starting with Handel's Messiah. I like the music. The radio just plays music today - no people's voices, and it's mostly Christmas music of course. I've been listening to that for the past month and needed a change today.

I am off to read in a few minutes. I'm having a lovely Christmas Day; I'm sure you are too.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Mema - have a great Christmas w/ your grandkids.

Leslie – hope you have a lovely dinner today. Will you have any phone calls w/ family?

I also went for the seafood at the Christmas party. It was excellent. And yes, DS’s DF is Catholic so DS is having to learn a whole bunch of new traditions.

I sometime do a reprise of Thanksgiving dinner on Christmas and I’ve once or twice done a roast beef. This year I opted for “easy”. I’m putting a ham in the oven and I’ll do some oven roasted veggies and potatoes (plain and sweet). I’ll make a salad ahead of time and steam some green beans at the last minute.

We had a quiet morning yesterday and then I took DGS out to the pool to have some fun time together. When we got back I made some dessert (chocolate almond cream pie) for Christmas dinner and made tacos for dinner. DS came over at 5 for dinner with us. DD came directly to church at 6 PM. I was so happy that both of the kids came to church w/ us without being asked.

After the service, we came back to the house. DS stayed just long enough to pick up the dogs. I had thought that DD and DGS would spend the night but she had left all her Christmas gifts at home – unwrapped. So I packed up some tacos for her and gave her a roll of wrapping paper and they headed home. All in all a very quiet Christmas Eve.

Today they will all come back sometime in the late morning today. We’ll open gifts and have an early dinner (probably about 1 PM.)

Kate - Thanks for the Hanukkah wishes! I don't actually celebrate it - I can't be lighting candles any more anyway, (I know there are electric menorahs) and I also don't know the prayers to say when lighting each candle. I wasn't raised in a Jewish home, so really don't know a lot about 'being' Jewish.

The steak salad was yummy! I bet your shaved steak is too. I had my chicken/yam/broccoli dinner last night and it was delicious, although I really only ate the veggies. I think I'll have the rest of the chicken with more of the salad, but that won't be until Thursday probably because I want the rest of the broccoli and yam today. Tomorrow I want that turkey dinner.

Do you have a traditional meal for Christmas Eve? Thank you for telling me more about the party. The food sounded wonderful, and that was a lot of people! I definitely would have gone for the seafood. It's perfect that they have a restaurant! Good for your DGS, avoiding the chicken in his meal. Does he ever express a desire to eat meat? I'm glad your DH was comfortable with the singing.

I can picture the grocery store being mobbed! I'm glad people were in the spirit of the season and being friendly.

I'm glad your DGS spent the night with you. And great that your DD and DS will be with you later. It sounds like he and DF have worked out how to spread themselves around in both families for the holidays. Is DF's family Catholic? You mentioned the children's mass...

It is a pretty grey day here, and just barely above freezing today, so we do still have some snow on the ground - on the grass at least. How is your snow holding up? It's supposed to be warmer tomorrow again.

I hope everything goes well for you today, and I'm thinking of Mema, enjoying her family!

Mema – safe traveling!

Leslie – your steak salad sounds yummy. I have some shaved steak left over from dinner last night that I will have for lunch.

Glad you found someone who could use all the candles.

I meant to wish you a happy Hanukkah on Sunday but forgot.

DH sings in our church choir and is one of the song leaders so he’s used to singing in public. He thought about bringing a kazoo to be creative but decided just to sing it straight.

I didn’t count the people there at the party but they have 3 big rooms that were all full of people. Maybe 50 - 60 people?

Since DF parents own a restaurant – they have an easy catering option. It was a buffet and there was a lot of different food. A salad made w/ kale and arugula, a potato dish, roasted mixed veggies, and 3 main courses. Shrimp and scallops cooked w/ cherry tomatoes and basil, creamed chicken and broccoli on pasta, and meat loaf w/ gravy. DGS took the pasta and broccoli – avoiding the chicken chunks.

Yesterday I went out to the grocery store in the morning. It was mobbed. I have never seen such a crowd except the day before a snow storm is predicted. Fortunately people seem to be taking it philosophically instead of stressing out. There were a lot of conversations going on between people in the lines. When I got home, DGS and DH had been doing some things together. And after lunch the two of them went out to get stocking stuffers. DGS spent the night w/ us, too, so he’s tucked up beside me playing on the iPad while I post.

DD will come here for dinner and the candle light service today. DS will join us, too. His DF will go to the children’s mass w/ her family. Tomorrow, they will both go to her family early in the morning to watch the little kids open gifts. Then, they will come here for lunch and gift exchanges here.

Mema - I hope the travels all go well today, and I'm glad your DS will be meeting your flight. Does he have time off from work, besides just Christmas Day?
That sounded like a busy service yesterday, with the 3 baptisms! I don't blame you for choosing not to go to the flea market afterward.
I'm glad you didn't mind the long lines at Walmart. The lines there were already long in mid-November here, so I can imagine how they might have been yesterday. Does your store have the self checkouts? Ours does, but I refuse to use it!
Your dinner sounded good, and how great that your DH made the chicken legs! I sliced up what was left of my steak (quite a bit!) and added it to the bowl of salad I'd only eaten a bit of. I had creamy Caesar dressing with it - very tasty.
I'm glad you enjoyed the movie you watched with your DH. I watched a sort of fun movie Saturday night, called Father Figures. It was a little raunchy in parts, but I enjoyed it. One of the actors was also in Wedding Crashers which I really enjoyed a few years ago.
I hope you'll have the chance to get together with your friend on the weekend.
We're also having unusually warm weather, above freezing, and the day after Christmas (Boxing Day for us) it's even supposed to rain! I'm glad you won't be freezing there, and I hope you enjoy playing in the snow with the kids.
I don't talk to my grandsons very often, but we do talk on their birthdays, and usually on Christmas too. They're usually busy, but if they're handy to the phone, we do talk. Once in a while I also talk to my DIL, but they never answer their home phone because of so many robocalls, so my DS calls me back when he has time.
They'll be home for Christmas. I'm not sure if my DIL will be going to church. My son is Jewish, so obviously he won't go. They will be cooking a brisket, which sounds wonderful to me! It sounds as if your DH will be keeping busy over Christmas. I'm sure he'll miss you, but no doubt he's happy for you having this opportunity to be with your grandkids for the holiday.
I do hope you have a very happy Christmas, and don't worry about posting while you're busy visiting. It is wonderful getting to know you too!

Kate - I'm so glad you survived the party, and now it's in the past! I'm sorry you had a headache from the noise by the end. I'm not a party person either, so I admire you for going, and staying! I'm sure your DS was very happy you were there; he must know your feelings about parties.
I'm glad all the singing went well, and how great that a 3-year old started it off! How did your DH feel about doing his part in the 12 Days of Christmas?
Good for you for avoiding the appetizers. I would be more apt to devour them than the sweet desserts. I do understand about the sugar addiction though - I have a sweet tooth at times, but after a big meal, I usually can't eat dessert. What was the main course of the meal? How many people were there? Was it a buffet?
We are also thinking we may not be having a white Christmas. It will be cooler tomorrow, about 34, but Christmas Day it will be at least 40. You have more snow than we do, so it sounds as if you may be in luck.

Yesterday I packed all my candles, candle holders, incense, incense holder, lighters and matches into a bag and put a note on the bulletin board downstairs. In the afternoon a woman called and then came right away and took the bag, so now I can relax and not be afraid I'll light something by mistake when I have the oxygen on. I would hate to cause a fire like the one we had a couple of months ago.

I hope you're having good days!

Mema – have a safe trip today and have fun w/ your DS and his family.

Leslie – glad you had a good conversation w/ your DS.

Our weather is going to be warm the next few days so it’s possible all the snow will melt before Wednesday and we’ll have a brown Christmas. There’s about 6 inches of snow right now.

I survived the party although my head was aching by the end from all the noise. It really was a good party – I’m just not a party person. The songs came off well. The 3 yr old started us off by singing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”. He did a very good job. And then we did a few sing along songs before the 12 Days of Christmas – so it was different than DF’s mom had planned, but it went well.

I just drank lots of water and stayed away from the appetizers. But after dinner, DGS asked me if I could take him over to the dessert table and I caved in and ate several of the sweets. Sigh! My sugar addiction is really whipping me this holiday.

We ended up not going to the flea market. Neither one of us was really up for it, so that was OK. We had 3 baptism's in church today! All from the same family - two young girls (about 2 & 3) and a young boy (14). We had cake afterwards, so church went long because of the baptism's and then the fellowship afterwards, we didn't feel like going back out. I had to run to Walmart and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be. The lines were long in the check-out, but I didn't mind.

I did a bit of tidying up and finished off my packing. We'll head out for the airport about 9 am tomorrow morning. It takes about 40-45 minutes to get to the airport and my flight leaves at 11:25 am and arrives in Mpls. at 2:30 pm. My DS will be there to pick me up.

DH even made part of the dinner tonight. We had chicken legs that he put on the grill to get some of the grease off and then put them into the crock pot with chicken wing sauce - like you would get at a restaurant - the orange colored sauce. I made us a salad and that was our supper.

We watched a Netflix DVD - "Serenity" with Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway. It was good, but very different. So a nice way to spend the last evening with DH.

I may not get a chance to post tomorrow - even if the kids go to bed early, I'll probably be wrapping presents!

I also talked with my friend who's up in MN and we're planning on getting together over next weekend sometime. Maybe just for lunch or something. Otherwise, I'll just be at DS's the whole time.

Leslie - Actually, the weather in MN while I'm there is going to be pretty decent. So, I'm glad it won't be bitterly cold. I had some of that last year. This way, I'll get to have the kids play outside and maybe we'll make snowmen or forts or something fun! The warmer temps makes the snow sticky, which would be good for snowmen and forts.
So glad to hear you had a nice chat with your DS. Do you also talk with your grandsons? What will their plans be for Christmas? My DH will go to church Christmas Eve (4:00 pm) and then over to his cousin's for the evening. Then he will get up and go to church Christmas Day and come home. I'm sure he will here from his 3 kids sometime during the day.

Kate - When I get up to my DS's, because I'm not used to the cold weather, I will even sleep with socks on my feet. I don't normally like anything on my feet when I'm sleeping, but my feet always seem to be cold there. I also put Vaseline on my feet before going to bed so they don't get so rough. And then I need the socks on over that!
I agree with Leslie - I'm sure your DGS will love the remote control car!
And I like all the sweetness from the cocoa and marshmallows, too! But your brewed chocolate beans sound interesting and good.
It does sound like DF really gets into the fun of the holiday! Years ago, my family and my mom's brother and his family would get together ahead of Christmas and do a lip syncing. Each family (like my sister and her family; me and my DS; my mom and dad; my aunt and uncle, etc.) each do their own songs. No one ever knew what the other family had planned and some years it was just a riot! We would dress up as the characters of the song or the people singing the song - one year my cousin and her husband did Sonny and Cher's "I Got You, Babe". She had a long black wig and then her husband knelt on the floor next to her! It was cute. Then we all exchanged gifts afterwards. We would draw names ahead of time. We always had a great time. It's fun if everyone gets into it! I hope it all went well for the DF and all her planning! And I hope you enjoyed the party - even though that's not really your thing! LOL

I'll try to post, but if you don't see anything for a couple of days you'll know it's just busy, busy, busy. Merry Christmas to both of you!! I wish you both good health and a wonderful New Year! It has truly been a blessing getting to know both of you!!

Mema - I'm sorry about all the wet weather which kept you from the flea market yesterday. I hope you'll have a chance to go today. I'm glad you got your laundry done.
I also like flavoured teas; my favourites are lemon/ginger, chai, and licorice spice.
I'm really sorry you need to go to Walmart today. I hope it won't take 'forever' to get out of the store!
Once again, the rib eye steak I had, which looked small, was quite thick and I could only eat about half of it last night. I'll probably finish it tonight with the salad I also couldn't finish, and then I'll have the chicken dinner tomorrow.
If it's cold there, it's preparing you for the weather in Minnesota! Is it tomorrow you're going? I wish you safe travels, and I know you'll have a wonderful time while you're there, and being with your grandkids on Christmas especially!

Kate - The remote control car for your DGS sounds great!
That party today sounds like quite something! Your DS's future MIL does sound very organized. Does your DH mind singing about the '8 maids'? I know something like that would make me feel very self-conscious, but it does sound as if it could be fun if the participants get into the spirit. All her instructions are quite amazing! I do hope you're able to enjoy yourselves there, and enjoy meeting the extended family too. It sounds as if it will be a large group.
I've never had brewed chocolate beans, but that sounds lovely! I've only ever had the sweet stuff, but I would love to try an alternative.
Your ham dinner sounds very good. Have you decided what to give your DGS instead of the ham?

It's sunny here right now, and about 40 degrees. I'm still hoping all the snow won't melt before Christmas. I had a very good conversation with my DS this morning so that made me happy.

I hope you're both having good days, and best wishes for the party, Kate! I'll be thinking of you.

Mema – too bad about the flea market and the rain. Hope you get over there today. Is it Monday you’re leaving? Have a lovely trip.

I’m a nightgown gal. I don’t like things wrapping around my legs like PJ pants do.

My SIL sent a gift for DGS that arrived yesterday. It was in a bag so I peeked at it. It’s a remote control car. I had been looking at them and I’m glad I didn’t get one. I know he’ll enjoy playing w/ that.

Leslie – sounds like you’ll be having your special holiday meals early – which is just fine. I’m going to cook a ham for Christmas dinner (eaten early – 1PM) That reminds me that I have to get some vegetarian alternative for DGS.

I’ve been making the brewed chocolate beans on occasion instead of tea. Gives me that lovely chocolate taste w/o all the sugar. Sounds like you like the sweet stuff w/ the marshmallows.

This evening is the DF’s parents’ big Christmas party. The party starts at 4 w/ dinner around 5:30. But we’ve been asked to come a few hours early to meet the extended family. We’ve already met DF’s siblings during the summer when they came out to celebrate her birthday and the engagement.

She’s planning to have everyone singing after dinner starting w/ the 12 Days of Christmas. She’s got people assigned to every “day”. DH is singing day 8 - maids a milking. She’s so organized and has the whole thing choreographed. Here’s what she wrote as instructions:

"Here is the final line up! As I said, I have some festive headbands for people to wear. (I even have some Rudolph noses!!) Fun to get into the spirit of it! If you have your own Christmas hat, scarf or whatever to bring feel free! Also, I’d LOVE to video tape it if you don’t mind? Something I can share with you all.

Just so that I don’t have to bring you all together beforehand and to keep it a surprise for everyone, here is what we will do:
1. Around 6:45ish just sit or stand wherever you wish around the living room area (you can be standing in the hall area behind the living room too) just be chatting with people as you would normally do. I will go around quietly and give you your card.
2. I will get people’s attention that we will be having a sing-a-long. I will start the song: “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…..”
3. Each person from where they are will get up and sing as they are walking to the fireplace “a partridge in a pear tree” and then stand in front of the fireplace and hold up their sign.
4. As each person gets to the fireplace, then those there will continue on down the line saying their “number”. Be creative, use body movements (for example with calling birds you can act like you are calling some birds or something) Get the idea. Using voice inflections etc. is good. Just be as creative as you can. (for Aiden I am going to cut five strips of gold paper and link them together like five rings that he can hold) Don’t worry if you can’t think of anything in particular, I know it’s last minute and some of these are hard. Just have fun!!"

We didn't go to the flea market today because it's been raining off and on for 2 days and the parking over at the place is mostly in the grass with dirt for roads, so it would just be a big muddy mess over there. It's supposed to be clear tomorrow, so we may go then. I did my laundry today instead. I've got just a few things to iron and I'll do that when I'm finished posting here.

It was a little bit cooler here today than it was yesterday, but to look outside, it just looked down right cold!

Leslie - I've got all sorts of pj's - t-shirts, regular pj's and nightgowns - I wear them all at some point. I like the pj's when it's cold outside because I like something on my legs. A lot of times I find them on sale so that helps.
I love hot chocolate on cold days, too! I've got some packets that I just mix with water that I think I'll take with me to my DS's house. I was drinking hot tea for awhile, but got away from that. I like the flavored kind the best.
That does seem awfully late for a deliver of groceries, but I suppose so close to Christmas, they must have been very busy. I do have to go to Walmart sometime tomorrow and not looking forward to it. I'm sure it will be a mad house in there!
Your dinners for the weekend sound delicious!

Kate - I love how that Yankee swap works, sounds like fun! There's a game where you WANT to be last! LOL
I know what you mean about feeling "blah" about the gifts you bought. Years ago when we would buy gifts, I always tried to find something "special" about the gifts I bought. I actually would shop all year long - looking especially if I was at an arts and craft sale or a special fair or just some smaller, intimate shops in town. Or I made up my gifts. One year I took the hymn "Beautiful Savior" and copied it out of the hymnal - the whole page itself. I then copied that onto a piece of paper that had yellow roses as a decorative border (she loved yellow roses like her mother did), matted it and put it into a very pretty silver frame and gave it to my mom for Christmas one year. She loved it so much it brought tears to her eyes. That was always her favorite hymn. I love finding or getting the perfect gift for someone. But now, with all the kids and grand kids, we just give the family money. Except that I do buy for Dakota and Ryan because I was always going up close after Christmas.
I saw the Indoor Snowball game at the stores! What fun!
I hope everything went well at your party meeting all the new people!

Enjoy your day!

Mema - How great that there were 2 more women for Zumba! I bet you'll get more after the holidays.
I used to have a big problem when I was in my 50s of my head sweating. A friend finally suggested that I take Dong Quai, which I got at a health shop, and it was like a miracle. My head was so bad that I had an awful time trying to get my hair dry after washing it.
I'm so glad you had a good time at the musical performance! How great that your cousin and his wife were there too. 75 people sounds like a wonderful crowd. I'm happy for you that you got your dose of people!
I hope you get to the flea market today and get more of the T-shirts you like. That sounds like a wonderful price. Quite a few years ago, I got a lot of oversized T-shirts in different colours, and I've used them as nightshirts ever since. I'd kind of like a pair of pj's for a change, but don't feel as if I can justify that when I have so many shirts to wear to bed!

Kate - Good for you for going to the party. I can understand why you think it's necessary to do, and that it's stressful, but of course the people who will be there will all like you. As you said, they are all predisposed to like you because of how much they like your DS. Will there be a meal, or will it be a between-meals event?
I do enjoy my tea in the afternoon, but if it's really chilly, I have hot chocolate. I forgot to order marshmallows with my groceries yesterday. I also forgot chocolate syrup for the French Vanilla ice cream I bought. It's been a few years since I bought ice cream, but now I may wait to have it until I shop next time and have the syrup. And I forgot to order a box of clementines too! It's not like me to forget so many things. I've already got my next list started. The store was so busy yesterday that my groceries weren't delivered until after 6 PM. They no longer carry marinated artichoke hearts, which I love to put in salads.
The Yankee swap sounds like fun!
I'm sorry you're not thrilled with the gifts you're giving this year. I'm sure they will all be appreciated, and the Indoor Snowballs sound like fun!

Since the vegetables I ordered yesterday would not still be fresh for Christmas, I decided to treat myself with good meals this weekend. Tonight I'll be having a small steak, fresh mushrooms, and a salad, and tomorrow I'll bake a chicken breast, and have it with half a baked yam, and steamed broccoli. I'm looking forward to both meals! On Christmas, I'll have a Swanson's turkey dinner - I had that for the American Thanksgiving and was quite impressed. And with that, I won't have to cook on the holiday. emoticon

I hope you're having good days!

Leslie – yes, I’ll go to the party. We’re kind of on “exhibit” as the parents of the guy their daughter is going to marry. My mind keeps bringing up thoughts - “What if they don’t like me?” I have to keep telling myself that I just need to focus on being kind to everyone I meet and not focus on myself. And, truthfully, everyone we’ve met in her family are nice people and they all are predisposed to like us b/c they all really like my DS. But you're right, it's a stressful obligation rather than something I'm looking forward to attending.

I love my cups of tea in the chilly afternoons.

Mema – glad you had more people for Zumba.

The Christmas performance sounds lovely and what a nice thing to be able to catch up w/ your cousin there. Glad you got your “dose” of people time. LOL.

A Yankee swap works like this. Everyone brings a gift – probably like your white elephant gifts – and everyone pick a number out of a hat. The gifts are chosen from the table and opened in order by the numbers. As each person opens their gift, they can either keep it or swap w/ someone who has already opened theirs. A gift that is really popular might get swapped around a number of times. Everyone hopes to be the last one so they can have their choice of all the gifts. The earlier numbers end up w/ whatever they open or what other people swap them for. It can be a lot of fun if people get into the spirit - calling out "Here, take this one." or "No, don't take mine away."

The Christmas brunch w/the MOPS group was fun and then I went straight out to do my errands. I think I’ve gotten everything I need.

I spent the afternoon wrapping gifts and they’re all under the tree. I’m feeling less than excited about them. Nothing really special came to mind this year so the gifts are all pretty "blah" in my mind. DGS has clothes, books, a money counting coin jar and one bath toy that I think he’ll like. DS and DF got just what they asked for and no surprises. I got DD a down comforter that I think she’ll like. Poor DH – I couldn’t think of a single thing so he’s getting a puzzle and handkerchiefs. Sigh! I do love giving gifts that people really love. That's my favorite part of Christmas. And there aren't any of those under the tree. The only thing that I think may be a surprise hit is the Indoor Snowballs for the guys.

I did some cleaning today and then went up for Zumba. We had 2 additional gals join us today! That was nice.

Once I got home, I had to shower again! I just sweat so much doing Zumba. Seems like once my head starts sweating, it never stops. We had left over's for dinner and then went up for the musical performance. It was very good. The woman who was doing it used Christmas Carols for some of her songs in the performance, but changed the words to a couple of them to fit her play and then she had the audience sing along on 3 or 4 other carols. That was nice. My cousin and his wife were there. They have a mobile home in a park not far from our place. The wife has been coming over here for line dancing on Tuesdays. And she knows several people who live here, too. And she also knows the gal who was giving the performance. So it was a chance to catch up with them.

There were probably 75 people who attended - that was pretty good. We visited for quite a while after the performance. I got my "dose" of people! LOL

Tomorrow, DH mentioned he wanted to go to the flea market in the next town over. It's indoor and outdoor and we've gone there many, many times. But haven't been yet this year. They sell short sleeve t-shirts that I wear for just working around the house that I really like. They are shorter, too (which is nice for me) and only $5.50 each! I could use more of those.

I will do laundry one last time on Sunday so that's done for DH. I probably won't post at all on Monday (since that is my travel day) and we'll see how busy it is over Christmas. But I am bringing my small laptop, so I will be able to post.

Leslie - I'm sure your neighbor or her granddaughter will love the chocolate! And, so sometimes the direct approach is just the best way to let someone know what you want or like.

Kate - When we were still up north for the winters, it seemed like if the buses weren't running, then schools would be closed, too. But here's the weird thing, last year my DS had his kids at the "day care" (Kids Care) at the school during breaks, the summer, etc. So, when they cancelled school, they must have still opened it up for the parent's to bring the kids there for day care! I'll have to try and remember to ask my DS about that. And maybe there weren't that many who attended there for day care, so it's not like the whole school would show up anyway. It is nice that your DD has you for those types of situations. If you're not able to take your DGS, does she have a back-up for him?
Hope you enjoy your "company" of the dogs! That's cute.
How was the Christmas brunch? And is a "Yankee" swap just a gift exchange? We've had Christmas party's at a church function or something and they tell everyone to bring a "white elephant" gift - a gift anyone can use. Sometimes it can be a funny gift, but depending on the type of party and the guests that are involved.
The big Christmas party at DF's parents house sounds like fun to me!! But I'm an extrovert, so people energize me! My DH is the opposite, but usually a pretty good sport for me. He knows I need a dose of people every so often! I hope you had a good time.

Enjoy your day!

Mema - Enjoy that performance tonight. I hope Zumba goes well too.
I'm glad things are moving along for your DH's surgery!
I will probably give the chocolate to my neighbour whose car we ended up sitting in the day of the fire. I think her granddaughter is still staying with her. We won't have the exercise class again until after all the holidays. I have 'hinted' about liking dark chocolate, but they and I are like Kate - I also need the direct approach, and apparently my DS and DIL do too.

Kate - I've sent an email to my DS to let him know the package is here, thanked them for everything, and did say I just don't eat milk chocolate. They sent dark chocolate last Christmas, so I thought they had picked up on the hints, but I guess not.
It sounds as if you'll be busy over the weekend! I hope you enjoy having the dogs for company!
That party on Sunday sounds stressful, but are you going to it? I hope you'll be able to enjoy it!

I've got to go and get my tea. I hope you're both having good days!

Mema – Hope you get some people there for Zumba today. The performance sounds lovely. What a talented woman to write and perform her own music.

It sounds like things are moving on the surgery for your DH. The waiting is always hard when there is something serious that needs to be dealt with.

And your suggestion of telling them about loving dark chocolate is one of the types of “hinting” that I totally miss when people use that on me. I much prefer the direct approach.

Leslie – when our school busses don’t run, the schools are closed, too. And, yes, parents scramble for childcare. My DD is lucky that she can drop DGS off here on her way to work.

I’m sure if you’re gracious about thanking them for the thought and taking time to send a gift, they’ll be able to hear the preference for dark chocolate w/o feeling judged.

Today is the Christmas brunch for the MOPS group and then I need to do a bit of grocery shopping and wrap Christmas gifts. Tomorrow, DH will be out to rehearse w/ the church choir for their musical on Sunday. They’ll have the choir Christmas party and Yankee swap after rehearsal. I have a meeting in the morning but then I’ll be home finishing up the wrapping. DS asked if he could bring the dogs over for the day on Saturday and overnight so I’ll have company. LOL.

Sunday is the big traditional Christmas party at DF’s parents’ house. We’ve been invited to come early to meet all the rest of their family before the other guests arrive. It sounds like a fun party but, honestly, I’m not much of a party person and meeting a bunch of people I don’t know is stressful. Oh, well! New family – new traditions.

DH had Bible study this morning, so I colored my hair. I have always done it at home and I wanted to get it done before going to my DS's. I just did a few odds and ends, nothing special today. I did get my ironing finished. DH even made dinner. He made fajita's in the crock pot for us. They were very good.

Tomorrow, I have Zumba one last time. Then tomorrow evening, we'll go up to the clubhouse for a performance of "Mary's Christmas Story". There is a gal here who performs musical plays from the Bible. She writes all her own music and lyrics. That should be a nice evening.

Leslie - My DH did call the surgeon's office today up in San Antonio. They asked him to call the dermatologist down here and give them a verbal release of all of his records. Once they get those and review them, they (the surgeon's office) will call DH and start the scheduling process. They told him to expect a call back in 7-10 days. The dermatologist office said they would call DH back w/in 24-48 hours to let him know they have faxed everything up to the surgeon. So it's a bit of a waiting game for now. I'm kind of thinking we may be up there for a week possibly. But it's so hard to tell right now.
Thank you for the offer of the chocolate! I'm sure someone in your building would appreciate it. What about your exercise leader?
I'm not really watching anything in particular - mainly because I'll be leaving so soon. And all my favorite TV shows are on hiatus for now.
Instead of telling your DS that you don't like milk chocolate, you could mention how much you love dark chocolate and that there are health benefits to eating that over milk chocolate.

Kate - I hadn't thought about all those New Year's resolutions people make, so hopefully a lot of them will include exercise! LOL
That's too bad DF was in tears over the whole holiday thing. At least you know she's trying to do right by everyone. And you telling her not to stress over it, I'm sure helped her feel better.
I'm glad you were able to get your stuff done in spite of having to change your plans and not go to the mall. That's too bad your DD got there so much later, but sounds like everything worked out anyway.

Enjoy your day!

Mema - Good for you for steaming all the tile floors! You always keep so busy!
I'm glad you had a good time at Zumba. It certainly works out well that you like to lead and the other woman prefers to follow!
I'm glad your DH has made a decision about which doctor to go to. Has he made the appointment yet? Will he have to see that doctor ahead of the surgery?
I wish I could give you the milk chocolate!
When they cancel the buses here, the schools are usually still open, so parents can take their kids there. That helps a lot of people who would otherwise have to scramble for child care.
I finished watching Bad Blood, and went back to season 6 of The Blacklist. Are you watching anything now, or waiting until your return?

Kate - I know you're right about just telling my DS and DIL that milk chocolate is 'out' for me. I just don't like to be a complainer. And I hate to seem as if I might be passing any sort of judgment on my DIL, who I'm sure does the shopping.
I'm very sorry your DS's DF was getting so stressed about the holiday plans. I hope they can get everything worked out.
We have also have had very cold temps yesterday and today, but it's supposed to be above freezing by the weekend.
I'm sorry you had to rearrange your plans, but it sounds as if you got the most important things done. It's too bad your DD came so late to pick up your DGS.

I hope you're both having good days!

Mema – I’m sure when January arrives, there will be people ready to exercise. All those New Year’s resolutions to get back in shape. LOL.

And the situation w/ DF is that this is the first time the whole family will be together for Christmas since the older siblings got married. So it is kind of a special time w/ all the little nieces and nephews there together for the first time at Christmas. The mother of the bride is excited to revive all the “little kid” traditions that they used to have. DS tells me that DF was in tears b/c she wants to do all the right things for both families. I told him we love her and don’t want her to stress out about this.

Leslie – sorry you got milk chocolate instead of dark. The best way to let someone know is just to tell them. That’s what my DGS did when he decided he didn’t like the dark chocolate anymore. At least you have the home made goodies from your housekeeper to enjoy.

Too bad your class was cancelled. Our storm didn’t drop much snow but there was a lot of sleet. The main roads were all treated but I had to be careful on our driveway b/c of the ice.

Today and tomorrow are supposed to be really cold for this time of year – high temps in the low twenties and windchills below zero. I’m debating w/ myself about going to the gym.

DH got home from his office at 3:30 but DGS didn’t arrive until just before 4:30. And DD said she’d be picking him up at 7:30 and she wanted him showered, teeth brushed and in his PJ’s so he could go straight to bed as soon as they got home. I figured that w/ all that to do and the traffic this time of year, it wasn’t going to be possible to go and wander around the mall. So I had to quickly rearrange our plans. We went out to Marshall’s and let him pick out gifts for his mom and dad. He even had some money in his pocket so he contributed his own money toward the gifts. Then we went to a local chain restaurant that he likes for his dinner. We got home, got him all ready for an early bed time and then waited. DD finally got here about 8:40. We could have gone to the mall after all. Oh, well. At least we got done what we needed to do even if it wasn’t as much fun as I hoped.

DH had to go over to church today to work on our electronic sign that we have outside. He and the president of the congregation put up the different graphics. So while he was gone, I steamed all the tile floors (kitchen, living room, entryway and bathrooms). That job is done now until I get back! I still need to do some other cleaning. I also got some things together for my suitcase.

It was just me and the other leader at Zumba today, but that was ok. The other leader LOVES to exercise - she bikes and swims and does the Zumba - a lot of times all 3 in the same day! She did tell me that she's very appreciative that I am helping out. She said she's better at following than leading. I don't mind leading at all. I've got one more session on Friday, then that will be it for me until I get back. Then hopefully, we'll get more people attending the classes. I'm sure we will.

Thank you both for your kind words regarding DH's melanoma. He knows we'll go up to San Antonio. He researched both doctors now and feels more comfortable with the one in San Antonio. Even though that is much farther away (4 hours vs. 2.5). Now he just needs to call them and get all the information. Tonight we were talking and I happened to mention that if he needs a skin graft, he'll most likely be put under general anesthesia. At least I was. Anyway, he takes an MAOI drug that does NOT mix with general anesthesia, so he needs to stop taking it 2 weeks before getting surgery like that. I told him, they probably won't even know if he will need a skin graft until they remove the cancer, so he's going to stop taking that drug now to be safe.

Leslie - Glad you had a nice time with your housekeeper and how nice that she brought you some goodies!
As far as milk chocolate - I would gladly take it off your hands! LOL And mixed with caramel - mmmm, mmmmm!
I used to give my mom one of those calendars every year with pictures of my DS and his family. She just loved it! I would try and put clever captions under the pictures of some of them.
With all the school buses cancelled because of your snow storm, did that also mean the schools were closed?
I hope whoever took your bag of clothing needed it, too!

Kate - I'm hoping that because the size of the cancer that it hasn't spread, but really we won't know for sure on that. Even when they remove it, they take extra "good" tissue to be safe, but if any of the cells "fell off" they can spread. At least that's what I read. But when DH explained what the doctor said, it almost sounded like it was a small cluster meaning all of it together. I hope anyway.
Does the DF have her brother and sister here every year for the holidays? If not, that would help, but if they come every year, then that can cause some stress if she's not willing to compromise a bit. I know with my DS and his family and all the parents divorced and re-married and my ex-husband being married 3 times, they have to juggle family time, too. One of the things I told my DS is that now that he has his own family, he and his DW need to figure out what they're willing and not willing to do. It can get touchy. And you're the soon to be mother-in-law (just like I am) so it seems like we have to be the one's who are a bit more understanding??? emoticon At least I haven't had to deal with that type of drama being that we've been in TX for so many Christmases. Hope it all works out.
That is too bad about your DGS missing his Christmas party at school. Sounds like he's getting more into or excited about Christmas? Dakota had to miss out on a field trip because she was sick - she was very disappointed, too.
Your plan about going to the mall for dinner and shopping sounds like a good idea. Were you able to make that happen?

Have a great day!

emoticon

Mema - I'm very sorry about your DH's melanoma. I do hope he's able to get it taken care of very soon. It is fortunate for him that you know exactly what he's going through!
I can imagine why you were starting to look forward to the holidays being over - you've been so busy!
I'm very glad your wrist is doing so much better.
I hope your Zumba goes well today. You sound so dedicated, working out new routines to new music.
I've finished watching Virgin River. I haven't finished with Bad Blood yet, so guess I'll go back to that tonight. I don't 'love' it, but I am curious to see what will happen next with the twins.
I did have a good time with my housekeeper yesterday, and she brought me a few homemade goodies which I always enjoy. I gave her the extra money I always give her for the holidays.
I'm glad the kids received their Santa letters. I can imagine what a thrill that is for them!
Your stuffed peppers sounded very good.

Kate - We got quite a snowstorm overnight and this morning and all school buses were cancelled. Our exercise class was also cancelled. And, there was a pickup of used clothing for the Diabetes Society today, so I took a bag down before 8 AM as instructed - my bag was the only one there. With all the bad weather, I thought I should pick the bag up by about 11, but it was gone! After that, I got a call saying they had changed the pickup day to the 23rd, so I told the woman someone had picked it up. I hope whoever took it enjoys the bras and undies (wrong sizes for me), and there was a very nice sweater in there too.
I'm sorry it didn't work out for you to have the water aerobics. I hope you're recovering from lifting those weights!
The kids here will also have the whole 2 weeks off for the holidays, and our exercise classes will also resume in January. You'll see a lot of your DGS. I'm sorry he's disappointed about missing the Christmas party this afternoon.
I'm sorry about the drama with your DS and his DF regarding how to do everything over the holidays. It seems to me that there needs to be a bit of give and take on both sides - your DS shouldn't have to give up everything!
It's good of you to help out your DD with her shopping! I hope it works out for going to dinner and shopping.

I got a box from my DS and his family today. There are a few small wrapped gifts, and I'm sure one of them is the annual calendar with family photos - I love that and get to appreciate it all year long.
One of the gifts is unwrapped - a bag of Ghirardelli squares of milk chocolate with caramel. Unfortunately, I just can't eat milk chocolate, unless it's in small doses, as in the coating of chocolate bars I like. I raved last year about how much I appreciated the dark chocolate they sent - I thought that would be a hint. I really appreciate the thought, but I'll have to find someone to pass them on to... I'm really not sure what to say to let them know I just don't eat milk chocolate...

I hope you're both having good days!

Mema – glad the grandkids were so excited about their Santa letters. I did a personalized book for DGS when he was younger.

So sorry for the cancer diagnosis for your DH. Melanoma is a nasty one. Hope they get it all out and there isn’t any spread.

Leslie – hope your day went well.

We’re dealing w/ a bit of Christmas drama here w/ DS and his DF. Her brother and sister are here from out of town for the holiday and she wants to spend time w/ them and her little nieces and nephews. Apparently they have lots of special traditions for the little kids on holidays. And she wants to be there for them all. DS wants to be here w/ us for our holidays – although we don’t have a lot of traditions other than being together. It’s causing them some stress trying to work it out. I’m trying to be understanding and let her have the time w/ her family. I did suggest to DS that next year they can plan for more time w/ us. Everyone wants to do what’s right and will make everyone happy. It’s just not possible to be in two places at once.

DGS will be here this evening. DD has a late afternoon dentist appointment for a broken tooth followed by an evening meeting. She’s going to pick DGS up after school and bring him here. He’s very disappointed b/c today is the Christmas party at his afterschool program and he’ll miss it. DD also asked me yesterday if I could do some of her Christmas shopping – gifts for DS and DF. She told me what she wanted to me to get and what she could spend. I’m not sure it’s possible but I’ll try. DH is going up to the company office today so I won’t have the car and I can’t go out tomorrow either. That’s really leaving it too late. I suggested to DH that all three of us head out to the mall for dinner and then shopping. I can look for the gifts DD wants me to get and DH can take DGS shopping for a gift for his mom.

I just finished a video call with my DS and Dakota and Ryan. The kids received their "Santa" letters today. I have them sent to them every year. In the letter, I can have a personal paragraph inserted and it's so much fun to see their faces when it says something personal just for them in the letter. Their eyes get so big! I love it! Six more days and I'll be there!

I had Bible study this morning, ran some errands and then went to my meeting. DH had bought some green peppers last night, so I made stuffed green peppers for supper tonight. They were really good. I had leftover rice/hamburger mix in the freezer, so I really didn't have to do too much in preparation! It was chilly today and going to be chilly tomorrow - I think I will make meatloaf tomorrow night. And the only thing I have to do tomorrow is Zumba. But I will probably do some packing and/or cleaning and/or ironing.

DH and I got some bad news. Last week he and I went to the dermatologist - I go every year for a skin check since I had skin cancer many years ago. DH asked me to make an appointment for him, too. He had a couple things he wanted the doctor to check. One was a very small mole just above his right eye. He thought it was a beauty mark. He thinks he's had it a long time. Well, I don't think he's had that as long as he thinks because the doctor excised it and had it analyzed. It came back as malignant melanoma. But it's very, very small. Like the size of a grain of sand. The doctor gave us the names of 2 very good doctors who are experts in the Mohs procedure of removal. That's exactly what I had done when my NON-malignant skin cancer was removed above my left eye. One of the doctor's is in San Antonio and the other one in Corpus Christie. DH is going to look up both doctors and see which one he wants and then has to call w/in 1 week to make an appointment. The dermatologist said he needed to get in to have this removed w/in a month. She (the dermatologist) said it was serious, but can be taken care of easily. So that was difficult to hear, especially with me leaving for 2 weeks. But everything that DH is going to have to go thru (even with a possibility of a skin graft) I have already done, so in a way, that's a relief to me. This may sound weird, but God does work in mysterious ways!

Leslie - I hope you had a nice visit with your housekeeper today and that she didn't tire you out too much.

Kate - I heard that the Boston area was supposed to get kind of a nasty wintry mix. What did you end up with? I haven't even heard on the news today.
I hope your sore muscles loosen up for you.
Dakota and Ryan start their Christmas break on the 23rd when I fly in, but then go back to school for 2 days on Jan. 2nd and 3rd! Seems kind of a waste to me, but I know the schools are required to have so many school days and last winter they ended up with a lot of snow days because of the bitterly cold weather. I will probably need the break by then! LOL You'll be busy with DGS for those 2 weeks! I may go over and see my friend for a night after the kids go back to school. I fly back to TX on Sunday, the 5th.

Have a good day!

Mema – I’m glad that your wrist is recovering so nicely. Keeping a brace on is a good idea. I remember when my DH broke his elbow, they gave him a sling to wear only when he was out in public so people would not bump into him as much.

I've once in a great while asked DH to sleep down the hall in our DS's old room. More often, I get up and go down there but I don't sleep well in a different bed.

I think a lot of smaller churches have Bi-vocational pastors. Our assistant pastor is also a professor at a local state college. She went to seminary in her late 30’s or early 40’s and has been working for our church for 10-12 years. She’s the one I meet w/ for Bible Study and lunch twice a month.

Leslie – hope you have a nice day w/ your housekeeper there. And that you caught up on things so you don’t feel ‘behind’.

I went to the Y yesterday w/ my swim suit. I was hoping for the good water aerobics instructor but she wasn’t there. The one I don’t like was teaching the class. (I like her as a person but I don’t like the way she teaches the class.) So I decided to do strength training instead. It’s the first time I’ve done the whole heavy lifting routine in about a month and I can feel it this morning.

I have a few errands to run today but we’re expecting snow and a wintery mix all day. Not sure if I’ll go out again after yoga class. I do need to go to the post office and get gas in the car. A lot of the schools are closed today b/c of the storm but not our town and not Boston. We do always check b/c DD will drop DGS off here if the schools are closed but she has to work.

I was checking the calendar to see if DGS had a half day on Christmas Eve like they often do and realized that the schedule this year is to have the entire week off both Christmas week and New Year’s week. DGS will be here every day for those two weeks.

I'm starting to feel like I'm looking forward to the holidays being over! Too much going on. This morning I met with my friend about sharing the Bible study. We visited for an hour. When I got home, I needed to run to Walmart and Dollar Tree. I was home for about an hour after that and then had Zumba. And tonight I'm finishing my laundry that I didn't get done yesterday.

Tomorrow I have Bible study, I will run to Dollar General and a different Dollar Tree, go to my meeting and come home!

My wrist is really feeling good, but there is still a sore "spot" on top. Probably where the actual sprain or injury occurred. I'm still being careful, but I am actually typing on my keyboard tonight and not doing "hunt and peck"! LOL I bought myself a soft sided wrist band - basically to keep me aware of my injury and also to let other people (more when I'm in the airport and traveling) that I have an injured wrist.

Leslie - I know about that "feeling behind" feeling. I'm feeling that today.
We had one person at Zumba today besides myself and the other instructor, but that was OK. I think it's just too busy for everyone. Hopefully after the first of the year, we'll get more "regulars". We did have another gal that was supposed to come but her husband has Alzheimer's and he was having a difficult day, so she needed to stay with him. She really does enjoy the class, too. So, hopefully she'll be there on Wed. I introduced one of my new songs today. The other 2 gals seemed to like it. I'm going to work on a slower song - more of a cool down type of song and then another faster one.
It was our Pastor's idea of having a Hispanic Pastor and we actually post-poned voting on that part at our voter's meeting last week. We're supposed to vote on this program next month, but there are so many unanswered questions about it.
Now I would have never caught anything like you did on Virgin River about 50 cc's of something, but you being a nurse would know right away. That's funny.
I hope you have a nice visit with your housekeeper tomorrow, but I hope she doesn't wear you out too much! LOL

Kate - When you mentioned about having a part-time Pastor I mentioned that to DH, but he didn't think this program that the church is using would allow a part-time person. But it made me think anyway.
I've never had the need to use one of those coin machines before - it would be nice to have the option of a gift card!
Is it possible for either you or your DH to sleep in another bed just while he has his cold? Before I got my CPAP machine, my poor DH was constantly getting woken up by my snoring and finally I would go and sleep in another bedroom so he could get some sleep. So I know that must be miserable for you.
Glad you got some of your gifts in the mail. I ordered 2 gift cards for DS and DIL. I got the one from DS and the one for DIL said it shipped, but it's been a week and is still not here so I'm getting nervous. And there was no tracking available for gift cards - from either place. So I hope that arrives soon!

Enjoy your day!

I'm way behind with things today, so need to just be brief.

Mema - you did have a very full day yesterday! I hope the Zumba goes well today.

Kate - sorry your DH has a cold. And I'm sorry his snoring is keeping you from sleeping well.
I love using gift bags - they are so much easier!

I may not post tomorrow - my housekeeper will be here.

I hope you both have good days!

Mema – your Sunday doesn’t sound at all like a day of rest, but still fun. I do love singing carols.

Hope you get a good number of people there for the Zumba class today.

Leslie – your French toast w/ raisin bread sounds lovely.

Hope your exercise class is good today.

We’ve got snow in the forecast for Tuesday. 3-5 inches.

My DH has a cold and it’s making him snore like a buzz saw. I haven’t been able to sleep well unless I take some medication and I don’t like doing that very often. I’m exhausted and grumpy and I’ve been eating sugary treats which always makes me more depressed. So – today I’m off all sugar, at least for this day, and hopefully for the rest of the week.

On a positive note, I did get a bit more shopping done and some more of the gifts ordered have arrived. It’s time to start wrapping gifts to go under the tree. The town has stopped taking wrapping paper as re-cycling so I’ll be doing mostly gift bags. That’s always quicker and easier than paper.

It turned out to be too busy of a day. When we got to church, I had forgotten that I signed up to go caroling with a group over to a nursing home, so after Bible study I got a ride with some people and we went over there. After caroling, they fed us. I got home at 2:15 in the afternoon. I did a few loads of laundry, then made an early dinner as we were going over to our friends at 7:00 pm. We ended up staying there until 10:30 and I am tired out. We did have a very nice time, but I wasn't expecting to stay so long. I also have a headache, so I'm not going to post much tonight.

Tomorrow morning I'm meeting with my co-Bible study leader at her house at 10 am. Then I have to be up at the clubhouse for the 3 pm Zumba class.

I need to go to bed, so I'll post more tomorrow.

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm very glad you were feeling better last night, and that your wrist is also much better!
I'm sorry about the situation at your church. Whose idea was it to have the Hispanic pastor there? Was it voted on? That does sound like an awful burden for a small congregation!
Going to friends after dinner later today sounds good.
I just love pizza. I don't have it very often, so when I do, I like it at any time of day!
I got a kick out of something on Virgin River last night. When Mel and Jack were trading 'war stories', she said it took '50cc of Haldol and 2 guards to get a patient off' her, but 50 cc would put someone directly in their coffin!
I do like the show though, and hope there will be more than one season. The actor who played the rough guy, who came at Mel and Jack with a gun when they had the flat tire, was one of the stars of the show Intelligence that I had just watched.
I had hoped to watch Love, Actually last night, but Netflix doesn't have it this year. I was disappointed - I've been watching it every December.
I've got a bit done this morning, but will plan to do the rest tomorrow after the exercise class.
The crockpot meal your DH made sounded wonderful!
Your plans for your trip all sound good!

Kate - I'm sure my luck would be like yours in that plastic wrap game!
The last time I went to the coin machine here, there was no option of a gift card - that sounds good. I'd probably be like your DGS and want to take the cash right away though.
I made my French toast this morning with raisin bread - very tasty!
It's snowing now, and has been off and on all morning, but it isn't terribly cold.
Tonight I have a chicken breast to cook, but haven't decided what to have with it yet.

I hope your days are going well!

Mema – that’s a small congregation to support two full time pastors. Our congregation is a bit bigger (about 120 and all year round) and we only have one full time pastor and one part time.

I hope your wrist continues to heal up and is good for your trip up north.

I’ve played the plastic wrap game a few time and never seem to get to the part that has the stuff. Just my luck I guess. Everyone else has their hands filled w/ trinkets and candies and I’ve had almost nothing.

Leslie – our coin machines also deduct a percentage unless you get it as a gift card. I remember taking my DGS down to one w/ about $27 dollars in change. He had the choice of getting an Amazon gift card for the whole amount or a smaller amount in cash right away. He didn’t want to wait to order something so he took the cash even w/ the percentage off.

There are some things like my nut flour bread or waffles that I make enough servings for 5-6 meals and freeze them. Then I can pull them out and put them in the toaster oven for a quick meal.

Well I'm still dragging a bit, but do feel better. I really didn't do much of anything today. But that was okay. Just trying to get better all around! LOL

My wrist is feeling significantly better, but I'm still trying to be careful with it. At least I can do a decent job of curling my hair now! emoticon That was really starting to bother me.

Tomorrow we have church and will stay for Bible study afterwards. Last Sunday at our voter's meeting the Pastor got an earful that I don't think he was expecting. He has found this young man (37 yrs) and feels he is the perfect candidate for our congregation to become a Pastor, but it's under this new program. The man is Hispanic and our Pastor thinks he (the kid) will be able to bring all kinds of Hispanic people to our church. We have 2 other churches in the valley who have significantly larger congregations than ours with Hispanic pastors and they cannot get new Hispanic members. Part of the reason is we're Lutheran. Most of the Hispanic population down here are Catholic. But the problem our church sees is this special program that this young man is taking means that once he finishes his online Seminary courses, which we are all praying for, he cannot be called to any other church at all. He is ours to support financially for the rest of his working life. And right now he can't even get a job because he's on a visitors Visa. He's a Mexican national. We already have one Pastor, one Deacon, we don't see the need for another Pastor. We average 100 people per week on Sunday in the winter and 30 people per week during the summer. That was the big issue last week and I don't think our Pastor was ready for the discussion against his idea. I was pretty vocal during the meeting with questions and concerns. I haven't seen Pastor now since last week.

Then tomorrow night we've been invited over to some friends after dinner. They moved into a different house here in our club and we haven't seen it yet. So that will be fun.

Leslie - I have never been one who could eat pizza for breakfast. I don't know why, but it just never appealed to me.
Isn't that funny that we're both watching Virgin River. I finished it and I hope they will have more episodes.
My house needs a good tidying up since I haven't been able to do anything for a week! And I'm not sure when I will be able to.

Kate - I also get tired of making the same recipes it seems. I'll ask DH sometimes what he wants. That helps. Tonight he made pork ribs with potatoes and carrots in the Crock-Pot for dinner. It was delicious, but I couldn't eat a lot of it.
Sorry to hear about your vertigo coming on again. Hope your maneuvers help.
I've got to get out this week now to get some little things for the kids for their stockings. I got them each a large Lego set and I saw at Dollar Tree that they are selling small packages of blocks in different colors and then some packages are like tree parts or fences. So I might pick up a few of those. Dakota also loves nail polish.
I fly to the Twin Cities on Monday, the 23rd, so yes I'll be there for Christmas! I've been invited to go over to DS's step mom's for Christmas lunch. I've gotten along with her ever since my divorce. My DS was 2 at the time so it's been a long time! He will turn 36 on New Year's Day! On Christmas Eve, DS and DIL are having her mom and her mom's husband and DIL's brother and fiance for dinner.
Right now the temperature when I arrive is going to be in the upper 20's, so that is not bad for up there.
We did that plastic wrap ball game at our church last year. I didn't go, but everyone who was there said it was a blast!

I think I will find something to watch on my computer now.

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm very sorry about the headache and gas pains - that sounds very unpleasant! I hope you are feeling better today.

Kate - it sounds as if your DD and I could happily share pizzas! When my DS was in high school, we'd order pizzas with half anchovies so I could have those.

I have not done the tidying yet - guess that will now wait until tomorrow morning. I felt guiltier this morning about not having written to a couple of people, so I did that, and also tidied my email inbox again. One of these days maybe I'll feel on top of everything at once! emoticon

Sorry about my confusion re: that bank - it sounded like something that would appeal to an adult too, so I guess that's why I thought it was for your DH. I'm sure your DGS will love it! I have a cache pot that used to hold an ugly pot for a plant, but now I use it for loose change. There's a coin counting machine at one of the groceries in town, so every now and then I take the pot there and dump it in. I mostly use my debit card, so really don't gather much change any more. That machine deducts a certain percentage for the store of course, but it's good to get bills in place of lots and lots of coins.

I hope you won't get floods! It's just cloudy here, and a little above freezing, but there is supposed to be more snow tomorrow.

Good for you for cooking ahead. I'm not at all good at doing that, but I do usually plan meals with leftovers so I don't have to cook every day.

The ball for your MOPs meeting sounds interesting, and what you're taking to put into it sounds great!

I'm off to read now, after I toss out some paper I need to recycle.

I hope you're both having good days, and you are feeling better, Mema!

Sorry about not posting yesterday. Right before dinner I got this pounding headache and severe gas pains. Every once in a while these gas pains I get are up high on my stomach. Like right below my bra line. It lasted all night and I still have my headache. Instead of Tums, I take pills with Simethicone - it's just over the counter, but it took a long time to work.

I'll try and write more later tonight.

Leslie – my DD is the only one who likes anchovies and hot peppers on her pizza so she was never able to have them unless she was getting a small pizza for herself.

Hope you had a good rest and are able to get your tidying done today.

The change counting bank is for my DGS. He has a couple of jars of coins at home and one here, too. My DH doesn’t carry change b/c he’s home all the time and rarely shops. When he does get change, he puts it on his dresser and I either grab it to use for shopping or I put it in DGS jar.

Mema – hope your wrist is improving w/ the anti-inflammatories and cream.

Will you be spending Christmas in the Twin Cities?

It’s pouring rain here. They’re warning about floods w/ all the rain and the melting snow. But I’m glad it’s not more snow.

I did some cooking ahead yesterday – a big chicken breast to slice for my DH’s sandwiches and some nut flour bread for my breakfasts. And I did a bit more shopping.

The MOPs meeting next week will be our Christmas party and we’re doing a plastic wrap ball game. Each of the group facilitators was asked to bring small items to put into it. I got some small packs of chocolate covered dried blueberries and a pack of really small nail polishes. I’ll give them to the leader tomorrow at church so she can make the ball.

Mema - it's good to see a post from you! I hope it wasn't too painful to write.
I am also drinking a LOT of water today after getting the pizza last night. It has anchovies, mushrooms, and hot banana peppers. I had 3 pieces last night, and 2 for breakfast, and I'll have the last 3 for dinner tonight. It was a wonderful change.
I have also started watching Virgin River! I'm enjoying it too. I've only watched 2 or 3 episodes so far.

Kate - We are also getting some milder weather today and tomorrow, but it will be colder again on Sunday.
I'm thinking of going back to cookbooks I haven't looked at in a long time to remind myself of recipes I used to love. I definitely need to shake things up and not rely so heavily on frozen dinners, which are also very salty.
The Intelligence I watched was from 2005-7. I guess since it was that long ago, there aren't going to be more episodes.
I'm sorry about the vertigo in the yoga class. I hope those maneuvers will help.
I'm glad you have a few things now for under the tree. The goose down comforter sounds really luxurious! I'm sure your DD will love that and the card for the Korean grocery. I finally ordered the Amazon gift card for my DS and family. I liked Mema's idea of PJ's. Maybe your DGS would like those, and your DH too if he wears them. That bank that counts the change for your DH sounds like fun!

I'm just planning to read this afternoon, but tomorrow morning I must get busy tidying things up!

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – hope your wrist recovers from using it all afternoon and that it stops hurting. I guess it’s good news that there isn’t anything broken – although a broken bone often heals faster than a sprain. The times I’ve gotten Rx ibuprofen – it’s just a bigger dose. Last time my DH needed that dose, the doctor just said to take 3-4 of the OTC tablets instead.

What a good idea to have the site open on your computer to read while typing on your phone.

Our weather is variable b/c we get two different sources – either we get the cold coming from the north and west (Canada and the mid west) or we get warmer and often wetter weather coming up along the coast. When the two patterns collide the cold turns the wet into a big Nor’easter snow storm. This weekend we’ll have just the storm w/o the cold so it will pour rain.

Leslie – I get that same “tired of all the things I usually eat” feeling. I will go back through my food journal that I keep for my food sponsor and look for things I haven’t had in a while and switch to those.

Hope your pizza is really great and you enjoy it.

I was thinking there was only one season of “Intelligence” and it turns out there was a second show w/ the same name that only lasted one season. The first one (the Canadian one) was in 2005 - 7. The second show w/ the same name was in 2014.

I went to my second yoga class this week and I could tell I am having a bit of vertigo again. Not badly, but when we changed position while on the mat my head was spinning. I stayed in child’s pose while they did tree pose. I’m going to have to do those Epley maneuvers again for the next few days.

I did go out shopping in the afternoon and picked up some small items to go under the tree. DS and DF are doing their wedding registry and I suggested they pick something they would like to have now rather than in 6 months and I would get it for Christmas. They asked for a blender and I ordered it on line. I found the one I wanted on Google Shop with free 2 day shipping and a $20 off coupon. Nice.

I also bought a really nice decorative box w/ a lid. I’ll label it the “Winter Emergency Kit” and I’m filling it w/ cough and cold supplies – OTC meds, cough drops, tissues, immunity tablets, etc. The goose down comforter for DD arrived and with the Korean Grocery store gift card, she’s all done. I’ve got a few small things for DGS but nothing really nice yet. And nothing for DH except a puzzle.

DH and I were out running errands all afternoon and now my hand is a bit more swollen than it was this morning. But I think that's from the up and down in general from running errands and then the pizza buffet! I'm sure there's a lot of salt/sodium in that food. I'll have to drink a lot of water tonight. The pain is better, but I still cannot use it. I'm glad the pain seems to be subsiding. For awhile it was almost unbearable at times. It would throb constantly! I was counting down minutes so I could take my next dose of ibuprofen. I was taking the OTC, but now I have the Rx. I'm not sure if that's much different.

Leslie- I hope you enjoyed your pizza! I did enjoy mine. While we were there, 2 bus loads of kids came in. The first was a soccer team and then a baseball team. Their uniforms didn't look like the local area.
I watched a show on Netflix, only one season but it was good - Virgin River. A very quaint show - good though. I hope they produce more episodes.
I add vanilla to my French toast, too!
I'm glad you enjoyed your substitute exercise instructor!

Kate - I like your idea of making the French toast in the waffle maker! Sounds good! I'll have to try that. We don't have a waffle maker here in Texas, but we do in Wisconsin. It actually has a scene from the movie Frozen on it. The waffles come out with a snowflake pattern on one side. We got it just before Dakota started coming to the cabin by herself. Then DH got another one that has Spider Man on it, I think. I haven't had that one out yet. That's for when Ryan comes up. They are smaller waffle makers than normal.
I remember you talking about your weather last winter and there were days when it was pretty warm there. In MN now and WI, they won't see warm temperatures for a while. They were just having some record cold temps this week. Below zero temps and below zero wind chills. Also quite a bit more snow, too.
Glad you are having a slower week this week.
I've ordered some gift cards for DS and DIL, and then a couple of Lego gifts for the kids. Those all went up to my DS's house. I've also ordered PJ's for them, but had to have those delivered here. There was something else in the order that I needed myself. But pajamas are easy to pack.

I don't have anything planned for tomorrow. Can't really do much anyway! LOL I'm really trying to follow all the instructions with the ibuprofen, the ice, and the cream. I want this to heal as quickly as possible, but I know I will have to be very careful when I'm up North.

I found it is easier right now to do this from my phone. But I have the website open on my desktop so I can respond to your posts. I can't see all of them on my phone. It's still hard to type. It ends up hurting my wrist moving my fingers typing.

Enjoy your day!

Mema - I hope the new medication is helpful, and I'm very glad to hear that nothing is broken! Enjoy your pizza buffet tonight. I am suddenly tired of all the things I usually eat, so I'm planning to order pizza tonight - haven't done that in a long time! I hope you'll be able to write later.

Kate - that breakfast casserole sounds very good!
I've been thinking lately of one thing I really miss from Wisconsin - hard rolls. The crust is really hard but the bread inside is soft - they are very tasty. We used to have them a lot on Sunday mornings, with shaved ham and Swiss cheese. All the rolls here have soft crusts and are pretty boring.

It's clear here today and by tomorrow is supposed to be above freezing.

I finished watching a good show on Netflix last night. It was a Canadian show called Intelligence. There were only 2 seasons of it, but it was great.

I expect a quiet day today, with lots of reading this afternoon. I'm glad you're having a breather this week, Kate!

I hope you're both having good days.

I heard back from the doctor yesterday and he said there were no broken bones, but some calcification on my wrist. I got a prescription for 600 mg of ibuprofen to take every 6 hours and a gel to rub on my wrist for swelling , diclofanec. This morning it feels better but I haven't gotten out of bed yet. DH is taking me out to the pizza buffet place for dinner so I don't have to cook 😋.
Hopefully I'll be able to post more tonight (I'm doing this from my phone), so there's not a lot of typing. Google fills in a lot of the words! Anyway if my wrist feels better I'll post tonight.
Have a great day!

Leslie – glad you were feeling well enough to get to your exercise class and to eat your lovely dinner.

I like the idea of adding vanilla to the French Toast. I made a breakfast casserole like that w/ slices of French bread soaked in egg, milk and vanilla and then baked.

We do get into these roller coaster patterns where the weather slides from cold and clear into warmer and wet. The cycles seem to last about a week. I can remember one summer where it rained every weekend. This last summer, we had mostly sunny weekends w/ rain in the middle of the week. I kind of hope if we end up in that kind of cycle that the snow will hit on the weekends when my DD doesn’t have to drive.

Mema – hope you heal up quickly. But I have heard the same thing – sprains take a long time to heal. I’m glad you went to see the doctor to have it checked out.

This week is a bit of a breather after the busy concert and grandson weekend. I hope to get some shopping done today. We'll be really busy starting the Friday before Christmas w/ church events and parties.

Mema - I'm glad you went to the doctor, and I do hope you'll be healed before your trip!

Kate - it makes sense to put the gift cards in stockings, unless you disguise them by putting them in boxes. I understand about having something to unwrap. My DIL usually does send me some little things to unwrap - socks or candy, but I just send them the gift card. That bank you got for your DH sounds excellent!

I don't have a waffle grill. I'm perfectly happy with French toast 'as is'. I add vanilla to the egg/milk mixture. I'm looking forward to having it soon.

I was feeling well enough to have and enjoy the pork chop last night, and I got to the exercise class this morning. Our regular instructor wasn't there, but we had a replacement. She was quite funny.

We have been getting quite a lot of snow today and at times I can hardly see across the street. It's supposed to be a little above freezing for the next couple of days - strange weather. It sounds like yours is being unusual too!

I hope you're both having good days.

Just want to let you know I went to the doctor yesterday. He took x-rays and blood. I'm supposed to get a call from him this morning with the results. I'm praying this is something that will heal quickly. I've been reading that sprains or a pulled tendon can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to months to heal.
I leave for the Twin Cities in a week and a half!
Have a great day!

Leslie – gift cards are usually something I get and put in the stockings. It’s nice to have something to wrap and put under the tree.

DGS just shrugs when people ask what he wants for Christmas. I did pick up a bank yesterday that counts the change as you put it in. I think he’ll like that.

I got this idea from a friend – soak the bread in the egg and milk like you’re making French toast – but then cook it in the waffle grill. DGS really likes that although he doesn’t like French toast.

Hope your tummy is feeling better and the pain in your shoulder doesn’t keep you from your exercise class.

Mema – hope your wrist is improving.

Yesterday it was near record high temp. I was out with just a sweater. But the cold came swooping in and we got a couple of inches of snow overnight. It won’t get above freezing temp until the end of the week.

Mema - I hope your wrist will start feeling better very soon, but RICE sounds good. If it doesn't start improving though, I'd get to your doctor for another opinion.

Kate - I thought you were avoiding most flour which is why I didn't think you would have had pancakes too. They are easy enough to make with the mix! I haven't had them for a long time. I have been craving French toast though - maybe this weekend.

I gave my poor stomach a break last night and had scrambled eggs with toasted raisin bread and honey. I hope I'll be OK to have the pork chop and squash tonight. My shoulder blade is still hurting, but I will go to the class tomorrow anyway and just be careful with it.

I can imagine how hard it is to find things for gifts when people won't give you any clues. Does anyone need hats, scarves, or gloves? Surely DGS has some things he'd like! Have you asked him? Does anyone have hobbies, or like to eat out? Gift certificates are handy! I've given my family gift cards to Amazon or LL Bean. Then they can pick what they like. I'm sure you'll think of good things! I gave up sending gifts a few years ago and just send a gift card for Amazon for the family. I should actually do that today so I won't have to think about it any more.

We are getting quite a bit of snow today, and it's windy. We'll keep getting snow all day, tonight and tomorrow too, so we should end up with quite a lot of it. I'm sure the kids will be hoping for a snow day tomorrow. If it's really bad, our class could be cancelled too - the instructor comes from out of town.

I hope you're both having good days, and I really hope your wrist is getting better, Mema.

Mema – hope you can figure out what’s causing the pain and deal w/ it. Or that the RICE helps it.

Leslie – they were talking about the rain ending w/ a bit of snow late today. I hope not.

Sorry you’re not feeling well w/ the shoulder and your stomach.

And yes, the pancakes were just for DGS. DH had already eaten and I’m trying to avoid things made w/ flour. They’re easy enough to make w/ the mix – just add milk and eggs.

I was thinking this morning that I have nothing to go under the tree. I have ordered one gift each for DD, DGS and DH that will arrive this week. Other than that – nothing. Not even any ideas of what to get. I sent out an email asking for ideas and haven’t gotten any responses.

i am sorry, but it's still hard to type, so i may be off for a couple of days. doing this the old "hunt and peck" method takes a long time. i have been doing R-I-C-E, rest, ice, compress and elevate. i know it;s not broken, but it might be sprained. although i never heard a "pop" and it seemed to come on quickly, but not immediately. anyway, i'll still be reading the posts, but if you don't see anything from me, this is why. luckily, it's my right hand and i'm left handed.

Mema - I'm so sorry about your wrist still hurting. That sounds very painful.
I'm really glad the carolling went well!
I hope you were able to get up early today for the nurses. That sounds good to get the blood drawn there.
I hope your wrist will feel better today.

Kate - We are also getting a lot of rain today which I'm glad is not snow. The temp is supposed to be dropping by tonight and then the rain will change to snow and we could have 6" by tomorrow. I don't need to go out this week, so it really won't be bothering me.
I can't imagine not writing to anyone! I write to 4 people every day, and the others as often as I can manage it. I always feel a little stressed about being behind with answering people. I don't send any Christmas cards. I give one to one of my neighbours here, the one who has my key and is my emergency contact for Lifeline to call.
How good of you to make blueberry pancakes for your DGS! I sort of assume you didn't have any yourself, but I could be wrong.
How lucky that you got the one pair of boots in the next size for your DGS!
I'm sorry you were so tired last night. I have also been too tired to have dinner.
I hope you slept well and feel rested today.

I had to miss my exercise class again this morning. My right shoulder blade started hurting again last night and is still bad today, and besides that, I've had a very upset tummy so I've been taking Imodium all morning - I think I had 4 doses. At least I don't have any other appointments this week so I don't have to worry about missing anything else, and I hope I'll be OK for the class on Wednesday.

I hope your days are going well, and that your wrist is better, Mema!

Mema – so sorry about your continued wrist pain. Ouch!

Leslie – we’re expecting rain today and tomorrow but very mild temperatures – in the mid to upper 50’s. I'm so glad for the warmth b/c if it was colder we'd be getting a foot of snow.

I don’t write to anyone. I keep track of my on-line friends but most of the people I used to write Christmas cards to have just dropped off my radar.

Glad you have a less busy week and can rest up.

DGS asked for blueberry pancakes for breakfast yesterday. We had time so I made him a stack. Then we headed to church. He would rather sit w/ us than go down to Children’s Church w/ the other kids but he’s bored sitting w/ us. The new pastor we have gives longer sermons than the man he replaced.

After church DH took DGS home with him when he went home and ate lunch and changed into his concert outfit while I was doing my collection counting. They came back to the church just as I was finishing up so DGS waited a bit for me while DH walked over to sing. We didn’t buy tickets for the second concert so DGS and I went home and I made lunch for the 2 of us and then I took him out to buy new boots. I am glad we went b/c there was only one pair in the next size up. At least he’ll have something to wear all winter long since he’s almost outgrown the other ones he was wearing.

I dropped him off at home around 3:30 so I was able to get back home before it got dark. DH went out w/ the other singers for dinner so he got home a bit before 8. I was so tired last night I didn’t even cook dinner.

We were at church until 2 pm today! I can tell you more later, but my wrist is really hurting. It is very hard to type. I think I pulled or tore a tendon on top. I;m wearing my wrist brace, but that does not help for typing. I'll try and write more tomorrow.

Caroling was fun and so many appreciate it.

I've got to get up early tomorrow - we have some nurses coming from the local hospital and you can have your blood drawn and get the results a few days later. They have done this for several years, but I was always able to get it done myself. But I thought ld try this.

Have a good day.

Mema - You always seem to be getting so much done - I feel like a sloth next to you! I'm glad you're so on top of all the Zumba! That sounds like a lot of work you're putting in for those classes. Is it a volunteer position? For all the work you're doing, it sounds as if you should be getting paid!
I had to laugh. I write to 15-20 people, and do my best at trying to keep up with everyone. One guy I write to usually takes MONTHS to get around to answering me, but yesterday it was one month and a day since he wrote to me and I hadn't answered him yet. He said it's over a month so he sent another note yesterday to find out if I'm OK!! I have just finished writing to him - hope he's satisfied now!
That movie does sound interesting! I was a huge Beatles fan. I watched Marriage Story - it was interesting enough that I watched the whole thing, but I think maybe it should have been called Divorce Story because it seemed to be more about that. I know I had read something about it lately but can't remember what.
I'm sorry about your wrist! I'm glad the brace is at least a bit of help.
I hope your voters' meeting at church goes well! Enjoy the carolling this evening!

Kate - I'm glad you were able to sleep in this morning! It's too bad that DF and her grandma missed the concert last night, but I'm glad the rest of you enjoyed it! That's funny that you told DGS he wasn't allowed to wake up until 7 - he did pretty well! Good luck getting him new boots if that's what you decide to do. It's very hard to keep kids in clothes that fit when they grow so quickly.
I've had pretty quiet days this weekend, and even had a nap this morning after getting up too early. I'm still tired, but there isn't much going on this week, so I should get back to normal.

It's cloudy today, and a little above freezing, but I haven't seen any rain, so that's good.
I am debating about whether I have the energy to cook a good dinner, or maybe have a frozen dinner, and cook tomorrow after another day of rest. I can tell I'm tired because my eyes keep losing focus and I have to concentrate to see things clearly.

I hope your days are going well.

Ahh! Slept in nicely after the late night at DH’s chorus concert.

It was a really nice time although DF decided to stay home b/c her hip surgery is still bothering her. And her Grandma had twisted a knee and stayed home, too. The DS, MOB, DGS and I had a good time listening to the singing. We got there 10 min. before the concert and didn’t get very good seats but enjoyed listening anyway. It was 10:30 before we turned out the lights last night – way past bed time for all of us. I told DGS that he couldn’t get up at his usual 5:30 – he wasn’t allowed to wake up until 7. LOL He actually slept until 6:40.

Today we’ll head to church and then DGS and I will hang out for the afternoon while DH sings in the second concert. I should take DGS out to get new winter boots. The old ones “pinch”. They’re not really old but he’s growing so fast.

Leslie – hope you get a chance to rest after the busy week you had.

I had tried a lot of the ideas for toe fungus but mine was fairly deep rooted and wouldn’t go away. This is actually the 3rd time I’ve used the pills for it. This time they gave me 2 cycle of the medication so I’m hoping I’ll finally get rid of it.

Mema – that does sound like an interesting movie. I’ll ask DH if he can find it and put it on our DVR.

Hope your wrist heals up. I know what a bother wearing a wrist brace can be. I had tendonitis on the back of my wrist once and wore a brace for 2 months. I finally had to get a cortisone shot to get rid of the pain.

I did my laundry today and I also got my ironing done, too! Woo Hoo! I worked on one of my Zumba songs. DH recorded the songs for me on an old Mp3 player that I can use up at the clubhouse, but one of the songs was a bit longer than I had practiced with. He used a different song than I was using because the sound was better on his, but his version was different. So I got that all figured out. Then I practiced my whole routine. I've got about 8 more songs that I can make up routine's for down the road. Right now, I have 6 songs that I can use.

DH and I watched a Netflix DVD - Yesterday. Here's what it says -

" Jack Malik is a struggling singer-songwriter in an English seaside town whose dreams of fame are rapidly fading, despite the fierce devotion and support of his childhood best friend, Ellie. After a freak bus accident during a mysterious global blackout, Jack wakes up to discover that The Beatles have never existed. Performing songs by the greatest band in history to a world that has never heard them, Jack becomes on overnight sensation with a little help from his agent."

It was an excellent movie!! We both loved it! If you get the chance to see it, it is so good. Especially if you were a fan of the Beatles.

Then I hurt my wrist bone (the top of it) somehow in the last couple of days. I have an old brace that I finally got out today to wear. It was from when I had carpal tunnel in my wrist. It stabilizes my wrist. That seems to help. I'll take ibuprofen before I go to bed and see if that helps, too. But I've had to take it off to type and anytime I wash my hands, so it's a bit of a hassle, but it does seem to help.

Tomorrow is church, I'm the reader tomorrow. Then our voter's meeting - hope it all goes well. Then we'll eat an early dinner and I'll pick up my neighbor in my golf cart for caroling tomorrow evening. Looking forward to that.

Leslie - I will put my Christmas cards in the mail tomorrow, so they go out first thing on Monday. I could have gotten them in the mail today, but I didn't get up to the mailbox at our clubhouse in time.
What movie did you end up watching?

Kate - The soup you made does sound like it would be attractive with the red and green lentils. I'm not a fan of curry, otherwise it sounds good! I'm sure your DD will love it!
I do do a lot of fussing with my hair everyday. I put in the mousse, blow it dry, then add some texturizer to it and then curl it. Then I also have to spray it, or else it will fall flat. So, if I could get by with a short bob, I probably would! LOL
Wow, you did have a short night last night. Were you able to get in a nap before your long day today? I hope everyone enjoyed the concert!

Have a great day!

Mema - good for you for getting all your cards done! And by now you've probably mailed them too.
I'm glad you enjoyed the open house at DH's cousins' house.
I also hope the rain we're supposed to get tomorrow won't freeze - that would be bad. I've heard of freezing fog, but don't think I've actually experienced it. We do get fog here quite often.

Kate - thank you very much for the link to the AA meetings! I've bookmarked it. I think the email meetings sound the best to me, so there wouldn't be the pressure of having to type quickly.
That lentil soup mix you made sounds very attractive, with the red and green lentils. It sounds as if it will be very tasty, adding the coconut milk! I'm sure your DD will appreciate that.
My hair is cut in layers. I think the curl I have gives it some lift.
For your toenail fungus, have you tried soaking your toes in original Listerine (the brownish one)? I soaked mine for about 15 minutes, and the fungus cleared right up and hasn't returned. I've heard that some pharmacies are keeping that Listerine behind the counter so you have to ask for it. I guess that's because of the alcohol content.
You're right about the bind your DD and I are in, making just slightly 'too much' for some things. It's very frustrating.
I'm very sorry you're so tired. And that you won't be able to go to bed early tonight. Could you have a nap? I'm sure the concert will be enjoyable at least, and I'm glad your DGS will be there for it too. Sorry DF won't be able to attend, but great that her mum and grandmother will be there!

It was rather a busy week for me, so I'm tired too, but I do plan to go to bed early. This is my 'movie night'. I like to watch Love Actually in December, but think I'll save that for next week.

I hope you're both having great days!

Mema - We made soup mixes in our jars. The leader had two recipes we could choose from – Coconut Curried Lentil or Chicken Noodle. I chose the lentil soup. It has both green and red lentils so it makes an attractive jar. And yes, you dump the jar in a pan and add water to cook it. The coconut curry soup also needs a can of coconut milk. I’ll give mine to my DD along w/ a can of coconut milk to make it with.

I have also been told that layers give lift to hair. But if I don’t use mousse, the layers just lay close so close to my head that I don’t like the look. At least a long bob looks OK even w/o lift.

We’ve had a lot of that melt and refreeze. Every morning this week, the news people have been warning of slippery roads.

Leslie – we had snow flurries most of the day yesterday but less than in inch accumulated.

I glanced at the AA website and they have a very different set up for finding meetings. They have a special intergroup for on line meetings. This is the website for on line meetings. I think if you select audio/visual you could browse the meeting available. Although you might find some “email” meetings that would work, too, since they are not in real time.
aa-intergroup.org/directory.php

I did get some polish on my toe nails but it’s a very pale pinky taupe – almost the same color as my toes so it’s not at all noticeable. I’m working on getting rid of some toe fungus on two of the nails and they look really nasty w/o polish.

I don’t like the size of my ears so I always have my hair cut to cover them up. LOL.

My DD gets caught in the same kind of catch – she makes just a tiny bit more than the ceiling for some services. Of course since she then has to pay full price for the services – she ends up w/ less money than if she earned a bit less and could get them. Sigh.

Oh, I’m so tired. Last night, DH had the final rehearsal for the chorus concerts this weekend. He told me that the people were going out for snacks afterwards and I couldn’t seem to settle down to sleep. Even after he finally got home at midnight, I couldn’t fall asleep until almost 2 and then I was awake again before 5. UGH! And it will be a long day. DGS is getting dropped off around 9 this morning for the weekend and we’ll be going out to the concert tonight w/ DS and his future MIL and GrandMIL. DF had surgery on her hip last Monday and doesn’t feel recovered enough to go out for that. I don’t think we’ll be home until well after 10. Past my bedtime as well as DGS’s.

I had to run to Walmart today to pick up my pictures of Dakota and Ryan that I put into my Christmas cards. Now my cards are all done and I'll get them in the mail tomorrow.

This afternoon we went over to DH's cousins for their Open House. It was fun and about 10 or 12 people were there, so she had a good turnout. We stayed for about an hour and a half.

Tomorrow I will do laundry!

Leslie - That is kind of neat that my friend only lives 3 hours from you. I've never visited her up in Canada. I only see her down here.
I hope if you get the rain on Sunday that it doesn't freeze. I remember when that would happen up North. It would be warm during the day - or at least above freezing - but once that sun went down so did the temperatures and then everything would freeze. I was reading yesterday, I think it was, that there was fog up by my son's place and they were saying that the fog was freezing and to be careful driving! I guess it was freezing onto the road - I have never heard of that before. We have had 2 very foggy mornings down here, but partly because it was pretty humid overnight.

Kate - We're doing the caroling this Sunday evening. And then next Sunday after church, we're going over to a care center to carol over there (that will be church people). This Sunday is here at the place we live. Sorry if I didn't make that more clear.
My hair dresser once told me that with fine hair (which is what I have also) that layers actually give it lift. I do use mousse in my hair as well before I dry it.
What kind of food jar did you make in MOPS. I've seen those before, but never really understood what you did with them. Is it made that you just dump the whole thing in and then add any wet ingredients to it?

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm glad it worked out well for you and the other leader to be the only ones there on Wednesday. I hope people will see the sign on the bulletin board, so you'll have a bigger turnout from now on.
How nice that the gal didn't charge you for the copies of your Christmas newsletter.
I have seen photos of other sand sculptures, and it really is jaw-dropping what people are able to do!
St. Mary's, Ontario is only about a 3-hour drive from here!
I can't take Ibuprofen, nor any NSAIDS, or aspirin - I break out in many huge bruises. I take my Percocet every day anyway for my severe back pain, so it helps this too. It doesn't hurt to take a deep breath any more, but I still have to be careful how I move my right arm. I do plan to be at the class on Monday.
Yes, in many ways I've been closer to my cousin than I've been to my sister, I'm sure because my cousin and I are so close in age, and my sister and I are almost 13 years apart.
I do appreciate the longer sleeps with the oxygen!
Glad you're done with your decorating!
I hope you enjoy the open house this afternoon. Stuffed jalapenos sound wonderful to me - I love them, any way they're served!
You will have a busy day Sunday! I'm glad your neighbour will be going with you for carolling.
Yes, the bus took me too and from the bank. I'm always so appreciative when I see the bus coming for me! I should have the coins and cash I need for 2-3 months. However, I'm sure I'll soon need to go back to the bank to get all the paperwork filled out for Housing, so they can adjust my rent if necessary. Right now it's the highest it's ever been, so I hope it won't go any higher. It shouldn't fluctuate by much because my income is pretty stable, other than little cost of living adjustments.
Apparently there is now dental coverage for low income seniors, who make $19,900/year or less, and of course I make slightly over $20 k. So I'll just have to keep going with extractions as necessary. I pray I won't lose any front teeth!

Kate - I'm glad you're happy with your haircut. I always like mine too, even though it's the same every time. When you find a style that works, why change??
I hope you were also happy with your pedicure. Do you get polish in winter? I'll wait until April or May to get it again.
I've never heard of Zoom, but I imagine I could find it on my laptop. How do you know when there is a meeting? It would be good for me to be able to talk rather than type! I'm sure there must be AA meetings too.
I hope your MOPS program went well today. What was the food today?
I also have very fine hair, and do have bangs, and a 'pixie' cut, with ears exposed. Now that my hair is so short, I no longer need to be adding various hair products. The odd thing about my hair is that the right side is curly and the left side is straight - my poor hairdresser!
That community chorus sounds very good.
I have not been taking the oxygen when I go out, other than to the exercise class. My little trips involve very little exertion. If I were to bring the oxygen, I would need to bring the walker to carry it, but when I don't have it, I'm fine with the cane. Sometimes my breathlessness comes on very suddenly, for no apparent reason, so there's no way to predict when that will be. It's more apt to happen at home. It's obviously associated with anxiety, so if I take my med for that, I'm OK.

We had a lot of snow flurries this morning, and now there is some blue sky! By Sunday, it could be 40, with rain.

I hope you're both having good days.

I have my MOPS program this morning. We’re making a Christmas craft – some kind of food packed in jars. I’m not in charge so I don’t know what it is. I’ve done cookie ingredients in a jar and I’ve seen soup in a jar. All of us facilitators are supposed to bring measuring cups and spoons so I put mine by my purse so I don’t forget.

Mema – Sounds like your week is continuing to be very busy. Did you have fun caroling?

I just finished growing out bangs. I most often have them – either straight down or swept off to the side. Even w/o the bangs, my hair usually comes down across my forehead more than the photo shows. My hair is so fine that I don’t get volume unless I have a perm or use mousse.

The community chorus does a couple of performances during the year. They did some caroling at the tree lighting ceremony and they will do a Christmas concert this weekend – Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Then there will be a bit of a break over the holidays before they start rehearsing for the spring season. There will be another concert in May.

Leslie – hope your trip to the bank is not as tiring as the trip out to get your toes done. Do you take your oxygen w/ you on your trips? It must be difficult getting used to hauling that around w/ you.

I did get some cleaning done today and I was able to put up the rest of the Christmas decorations that I wanted. Glad that is done. DH has to hang the lights outside - not sure when that will get done.

Tomorrow, we'll go to DH's cousins house for an open house. It's from 4-6. DH made stuffed jalapenos to bring down there. Everyone loves them, but I'm not a big fan of jalapenos to begin with. I guess they are not hot.

Sunday we have our Congregational Voter's meeting after service. I read this Sunday, too. And then I have caroling in the evening. My neighbor is going to ride along with me in my golf cart, so it should be fun! Then we're all invited over to someone's house afterwards - usually for something to eat - mostly sweets and snacks. We have chili in the freezer, so I told DH we would have that for supper and eat early. We carol from about 6:30 - 8:00.

Leslie - Sounds like your back is not much better. Hope you are feeling better soon. Glad you were able to get out for your pedicure. Did you arrange for the bus to pick you up? Do you have to go far for that?
Hope you are feeling better tomorrow!

Kate - Have you ever had bangs? I could see you with bangs and the sides cut at an angle towards your face. And layers with the rest for some volume.
It was kind of nice only having the 2 of us at Zumba the other day because I did find out I have to do some re-arranging of moves in one of my new songs.
You mentioned your DH was rehearsing with the community choir - do they give a lot of performances around town?

Happy Friday!

Hi - just a brief note today - it must be pedicure day! I had mine this morning too, and by the time I got back, too much of the day had gone by.
I need to get to the couch with a pillow behind my back.

I hope your days are going well. I will be going out to the bank tomorrow, but that will be earlier, so I hope I'll be able to write more of a post then.

The haircut is nice – but it’s just the same as before only shorter. Sometimes I think about doing some drastic type of change but I know this style suits me.

I have an appointment for a pedicure this morning so it will be nice to have my toes are cute again.

Mema – sorry you didn’t have a chance to teach a bigger Zumba class – but it does sound like fun to have just the two of you there trying out your routine.

Have a nice time today getting your decorations unpacked and set up.

Leslie – so sorry about your cousin’s lymphoma getting worse and her poor prognosis. Good that her sons can be with her on her last Christmas.

And I’m sorry about the pulled muscle in your back. Hope it’s feeling better today.

The meeting I attended is on Zoom – so you can watch and listen in if you want while people share. Or you can turn on the camera on your computer and let yourself be seen and heard as well. About half of the people were visible on camera and the others were just listening in.

Of course, my meetings are OA rather than AA. I expect AA has them, too.

I had a lazy morning - practiced my Zumba for a little bit before meeting up with the other leader ahead of the class. Unfortunately it was only she and I, but that worked out OK and we had a longer class than usual! She's going to post a sign on the bulletin board so everyone knows. There was an article in the newsletter, but people tend to forget. And it's also a very busy time for people.

I won't be able to make the class on Friday, but next week I should be there Mon and Fri. I have my annual dermatology check next Wed.

Before I met up with the other leader, I had to get some copies of my Christmas newsletter printed with my Christmas letter paper from the office in the clubhouse. I had 30 copies and usually it's about 2 cents per copy, but the gal didn't charge me anything! She just said, "Merry Christmas"! That was a very nice surprise!

DH and I took a golf cart ride around tonight after supper and looked to see who had Christmas lights up. There really are a fair amount of people who decorate. When I got home I went up in the attic and got down the cases with the rest of my Christmas stuff in them. DH has Bible study in the morning and I will do some cleaning and then put up my stuff. He still has stuff in the living room, but now he'll get moving on it! LOL

Leslie - South Padre Island has "Sand Castle Days" in October. You can "google" SPI Sand Castle Days and you can see short videos - they are amazing what people do.
My friend lives in St. Marys, Ontario.
I'm so sorry you pulled a muscle in your back. That must be painful. I hope it doesn't last long, either. Ibuprofen will help with the swelling muscle.
I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin. I hope they do keep her comfortable. I have a cousin that I was very close to - we were 2 years apart but when we were younger (kids and then young adults), we were more like sisters. It sounds like you have some good memories to hang onto. I'm glad her sons will be with her.
I'm so glad to hear you are sleeping so much better! I was so surprised at how much better I felt after getting my CPAP and realizing how poorly my sleep was w/out it! I hope that happens for you, too!

Kate - Glad you had sort of a quiet day.
I hope you like your haircut! Having those IPads do come in handy when you have young children and need to do something like getting your haircut.
Will your DD now have a Christmas tree since she's not with DGS's dad any longer? Or celebrate a bit more?
Nice that you had help with the candy canes from DGS!

Have a great day!

Mema - those sand sculptures look amazing! I'm sorry there were so many people at the meal, but once you were able to sit down, it sounded great to be near the water. I'm really glad you had such a wonderful time.
You seem to be having a few busy days! My housekeeper was here yesterday, and was here longer than usual, so I didn't get a chance to post anything.
I'm glad you got to see your old friend from Canada - where in Canada?
It's good that you and your DH agreed on what is best for your church.
There are only automatic doors to get in and out of the building, not to get in and out of the apartments or community room. My doorstop worked well to get in and out of here.
I am grateful to not be supporting a car any more, but it is frustrating when I have several things I need to get done. I hope my friend Diane can take me out again in January or February so I can take care of a few things! I have to keep lists going.
I didn't get to the exercise class this morning after all. When I was just finishing getting dressed, I pulled a muscle in my back, so it hurts to move my right arm much, or to take a deep breath. I went down to let them know I couldn't stay. I hope that pain won't last long. I've ordered groceries, so I'll have to be careful putting them away.
Good luck with your class today - I'm sure it will go well!

Kate - I'm really excited that I will be getting the kimchee! Thanks again for the tip.
I'm glad your online meeting was good. I have thought of trying online meetings, but I'm so slow at typing that I'm sure the topic would change before I could make a comment.
Your porch basket really sounds very nice!
I'm glad you've been able to see DGS on his snow day. The teachers here are on a one-day strike today, so there's no school.
I'm glad you were able to keep your hair appointment, and got the candy canes for the tree.
I am definitely sleeping longer with the oxygen! I set my alarm for days I have something to do in the morning, and usually I am up long before it goes off, but now it is waking me. And I'm not ever waking up gasping for air.

I got some bad news yesterday morning. My cousin, who is a month and a day younger than I, has had lymphoma, but I had thought she was getting better. Her brother wrote to me to let me know she is very sick and there is nothing more they can do, other than trying to keep her comfortable. The doctor's guess is that she may have 2-3 months. I have been remembering all the giggling we used to do. We haven't been keeping in touch well lately, but I will be very sad to know she's no longer in the world. She lives near one of her sons now in Los Angeles, and her other son from NC will be going to LA for a lengthy visit at Christmas. It's sad to think it will be her last Christmas.

I hope you are both having good days.

Mema – hope the hymns are all set now and they don’t get changed again.

Sorry it was so crowded at the restaurant. Sounds like they got more people than they bargained for in their planning. Those sand sculptures are impressive.

Leslie – my house cleaners do the mopping last thing, too. They mop the back stairs as they leave.

Are you sleeping better w/ the oxygen?

We had a quiet day yesterday. I had planned to go out to lunch and Bible Study w/ my friend but she cancelled b/c of the snow. They wanted to wait for the snow to stop before shoveling out. It was supposed to stop around noon but DH went out and ran the snowblower around 10 so DD could get into the driveway. DD’s work had a delayed start so she dropped off DGS at 11 and I made an early lunch for us all. DH had a work meeting starting at 11:30.

It was still snowing pretty much all day but very light snow. I kept my 2:30 hair cut appointment and took DGS w/ me. He brought the iPad and played some games while he was waiting. Then we went to Target to pick up a few things – including some candy canes for the tree. DGS helped me hang them. After dinner, DH went out to the rehearsal for the community chorus. DD came to pick up DGS at 7:30.

Another busy day. Bible study in the morning, then met with the Pastor about the hymns. I think we finally have that all straightened out. (fingers crossed) emoticon

I did come home after that and rested for a short bit - didn't fall asleep. I was on my phone playing games, but laying down! LOL

We left for South Padre Island about 3:45. It takes about an hour and 15 minutes to get there from our house. We met DH's cousins there. All the Marines were lined up outside taking the toys from everyone. Then you got a wristband so they knew you would get the free buffet. But there were a LOT of people there and we did end up standing in line for an hour. DH was not too happy about that, but once we got our food and sat down, he was fine. But standing that long is really hard for him. His cousin apologized over and over. They had never waited this long before. But we sat at a table right by the water - it was dark by the time we got out there, but it was beautiful to see the lights of the causeway. Afterwards, there was a large tent set up outside and we walked thru it. They had "sand castles" inside, but all of Christmas themes. I've got the pictures, these are all made completely out of sand! And then the picture of the restaurant, you can see the outdoor deck and that's where we were sitting. We were almost straight out from the building that sits back, but next to the railing. It was a great evening!

We got home about 9:00 and we're both tired out. Tomorrow I don't have to be anywhere until 2:30 in the afternoon. I'm going to meet up with the other Cardio Dance instructor ahead of our class. The class is about 45 minutes long.

Leslie - I believe your housekeeper was here today, so I'm sure you were tired out! Hope you had a restful afternoon.

Kate - I'm afraid kimchee doesn't sound too appealing to me. I'm not a spicy eater, either.
Glad you didn't have to go out into the snow on Monday. How much snow did you end up with now? I bet your DGS was excited about having a snow day! Did he have his boots and heavy jacket?

Have a happy day!

Mema – kimchee is a kind of Korean pickled vegetables. It’s frequently made of Asian cabbage but can be other types of veggies, too. It tends to be extremely spicy.

Nice to catch up w/ old friends at the meeting. We have two churches here about 2 blocks apart that host a lot of the 12 Step meetings. Nice that your DH stayed w/ you for your meeting this time.

Leslie – I had a very easy day yesterday, too. The meeting I was going to on Mondays closed the end of November and I was glad I didn’t have to go out in the snow to get there. I went to an on-line meeting instead for the first time. It was good.

Glad you thought about the lantern for power outages. I don’t think I would have put together the problem w/ candles and oxygen until too late.

I have my Christmas greenery until Epiphany and then I put up a snow covered wreath and a snow girl on the little table. I switch to something springy around Easter time – depending on the weather and the timing of Easter.

The snow is still falling. It fell lightly all day yesterday and then heavier overnight. We got another 4 inches or so on top of the earlier 4 and it’s scheduled to keep snowing until noon. The Boston public schools are canceled today so DD asked if she can drop DGS off on her way to work. Hope she makes him bring his heavy coat and boots.

It was a long and busy day today. I did do my ironing while DH was meeting with the 2 guys from church. They had a long and productive meeting. DH told me all about when he got home. I did have a chance to rest for about 20 minutes before we had to leave for the cook-out, but didn't sleep. The cook-out was nice. We left there and went to the potluck for the AA/Al-anon. I got to see an old friend from Canada there! It was wonderful to see her. I hadn't seen or talked with her for 3 years. We used to get together with my sponsor (from Iowa) down here. There was an AA meeting after the potluck at 8:00 pm. There were 50 people who attended the potluck and most of them stayed for the meeting. There were some who went over to the Al-Anon meeting at 8:00. That's the meeting my DH usually goes to. It's at another church just a few blocks away, but he stayed for the AA meeting. We got home about 10:00 pm.

I've got Bible study in the morning and then a brief meeting with the Pastor and hymn committee right after. The secretary seems to be injecting himself into our business again.
I'll skip my usual AA meeting tomorrow since we'll be going to the island in the afternoon/evening.

Leslie - Hopefully the issue at church will get resolved properly. It's not really what we prefer, but what is best for the church itself. But we agree with what should be done!
I'm sorry you had such a hard time with your walker getting in and out of exercise. There isn't a button you can push for a handicap access?
I'm sure it is hard only being able to do one errand a day when you have multiple things to get done. But, on the other side of the coin, you don't have the expense of a car! emoticon
Hope you get the timing all figured out for your week with groceries and housekeeper. I wouldn't want the delivery of groceries coming either with your nice clean floor (that may even still be wet)!
I'm too tired to look it up right now - what is kimchee?

Kate - Your basket by your door sounds like what I did for my mom when she was in the Assisted Living. I put a small table right outside her door and then decorated it for all the holidays and the different seasons! She thought it was always so festive looking! Most of the things I got at Dollar Tree, so the cost was minimal for me to do that for her.
I hope you don't end up with too much snow to shovel and plow!

I am very tired so I'm going to bed now.

Enjoy your day!

emoticon

Mema - I'm sorry there's a complicated issue at church; I hope it will all be resolved the way you and your DH would prefer.
I'm sorry yesterday turned out to be so busy for you. I just did a lot of reading, and had leftovers to heat up for dinner, so it was a very easy day for me!
I'm glad you're having a couple of nice days. We got ice pellets and then snow yesterday, but not a lot. The driving was bad yesterday but apparently fine today.
I don't think I was in unions when I was in the US, but when I've worked in nursing or in social services in Ontario I have been in unions. I never got involved with any meetings or voting though.
I did take the oxygen to the exercise class this morning. I carried it in my walker. I found my doorstop to hold the door open while I tried to get out and in with the walker. It was hard enough to try to get in and out with my cane. I am getting used to sleeping with it now.
It's really quite annoying to only be able to do one errand in a day. If I still had my car, I could be doing the banking and the pedicure on the same day, but when I have to arrange for the bus to take me each way, I can really only go to one destination a day.

Kate - Thanks for telling me I could order kimchee from Amazon - as soon as I read that, I went right there and did that! I also ordered a lantern/flashlight in case the power is out - I won't be able to use candles any more. My order is supposed to be here Friday. I hope it won't come while I'm out.
I'm glad you weren't stuck in checkout lines at the stores you went to.
That basket on your porch sounds very nice. What is the next season you'll decorate for, or do you mean seasons of the year?
I have a friend on another site I visit who also lives near Boston, but her daughter does have a snow day today.

I am still trying to sort out my week. I can order the groceries after my exercise class on Wednesday. I had thought of ordering them tomorrow, but my housekeeper will be here and I wouldn't want them being delivered until after she is finished. Mopping the floor is the last thing she does in here; after that she goes downstairs to fold the laundry.

I hope you're both having good days today!

Mema – the crowds at the stores weren’t as bad as I feared although there was a lot of traffic. And we didn’t have to stand in check out lines. Either we didn’t get anything at most of the places, or we were just picking up things ordered on line.

Hope things work out well w/ whatever issue is going on at your church.

Leslie – if you get to craving kimchee – you can always order it from Amazon. LOL.

The basket for the front porch is filled w/ Christmas greenery (artificial) w/ a Christmas ribbon. I have a tiny table by the front door and I have a different things that I put out there for each season.

We've got about 4-6 inches of snow out there. The first few flakes started falling during the tree lighting yesterday afternoon. The storm is going to be here for the next 30 hours so I don't know what we'll end up with. Depends on how close the storm travels and how much rain we get. They're not expecting much more than 2-3 inches in Boston so the schools are open. Some of the towns west and north of us are closed b/c they're expecting more than a foot of snow.

It was a busy day today - I wasn't expecting that. After church I started on laundry, then I had to make a run to Walmart. And on a Sunday afternoon, it's not the best option, but there were some things we needed. Then DH wanted to talk with me on and off during the day which then got me behind in my laundry. We have a voter's meeting at church next Sunday and there's an issue he's very concerned about. He's been talking with the president of our congregation and is going to meet with him and the Senior Elder of our church tomorrow morning. It's a complicated issue, so I won't burden you with trying to explain it. Which I probably wouldn't do a very good job, anyway.

I also worked some on my hymns today.

I don't have anything going on tomorrow until the afternoon! Yea!

Leslie - You're right about interrupted sleep when there's something I have to get up early for! Usually it's something out of the ordinary - so I must end up with a lot on my mind.
Today was a pretty nice day. It was a bit humid this morning, but when we got home from church, the humidity was way down. Tomorrow's supposed to be nice, too.
I'm glad you enjoyed The Irishman. The Teamster's are still a big union here in the states, but I think a lot of the unions have lost some of their strength. Maybe because working conditions are not like they used to be???? I belonged to the Communication Workers of America when I worked at the newspaper - we had great pay and benefits. But the one thing I found there, is people started to think they were indispensable and the company couldn't possibly function w/out them. And that's where I think unions can get themselves in trouble. But that's my only experience. My father was a union man working for the railroad.
Did you end up with a lot of snow? Boy, it sounds like the Midwest got hit hard in a lot of places. One of the major freeways up by the Duluth, MN area was closed for awhile because of the snow!
You will also have a busy week! I hope it doesn't wear you out too much. Will you bring your portable oxygen with you to exercise? Are you getting more used to sleeping with it?

Kate - I hadn't thought about having different people helping each year with decorating, so you're right about having the pictures there for people to look at. We do have a few new one's here and there. Thank you! I think I will keep doing that.
You had a busy day, too. Even out shopping on Thanksgiving weekend! Was it crazy busy?
Sounds like where you live is affected by a lot of different things as far as the weather goes. How much snow did you end up with? Or maybe you didn't get any at all? Even watching the national news and the weather, it looked like it could go either way.

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm sorry you had such an interrupted sleep Friday night - I don't like those. And they do seem to happen when it's important to be up early the next morning!
I'm glad the decorating went well and the pictures were helpful.
Wow, you had a hot day at 90, but 74 sounds perfect.
You will have a busy week! I will also have a busy week, with exercise classes two days, housekeeper Tuesday, pedicure Thursday and bank on Friday. I will also need to order meds and groceries either Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm with your DH - I'd rather not have so much going on in one week.
I watched 2 1/2 hours of The Irishman last night - loved it! I'll watch the rest tonight. I certainly remember Jimmy Hoffa well. The Teamsters were/are? a huge union. Enjoy catching up with your shows on Netflix during the break from the TV shows.
We've had a lot of ice pellets this morning but now it's turned to snow. It's about 22.

Kate - I was glad to see your post from yesterday.
You did well with the decorating! How frustrating that some of the lighted garlands worked inside but not outside. Glad you've found what you needed at the dollar store and Lowes, and you now have spares.
Your tree with homemade ornaments sounds wonderful! I always used to hang candy canes on the tree too. What is the basket you put on your porch?
You've certainly been doing a lot of running around to look for the things you've needed!
The kimchee sounds good - I love it. One of the convenience stores near me is owned by Koreans and I used to buy it there, but now without my car, I don't really have a way to get there.
I hope the storm won't be too bad where you are, although I understand your DGS hoping for a snow day! I hope you won't have a major blizzard.

I'm having a quiet day today, with which I'm very happy, and very glad I don't need to go out in the bad weather.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – glad the oxygen mask worked better the second night.

I think you’re getting the storm that is headed our way. Some of our storms come up the coast and some come across from the upper mid-west and Canada.

Interesting to be able to say “I met so-and-so before he was famous.”

Mema – one of the ladies on my other SP group said she and her family watched The Irishman on Friday. She really liked it.

I hate those nights where I wake up in the middle of the night and then can’t get back to sleep. Hope you slept better last night. Your week sounds really jam packed.

The pictures of where and how things are decorated sounds like a good idea. Especially when you have a group working on decorating and perhaps different people each year.

I brought our my advent wreath and then realized I didn’t have the purple and pink candles for it. While we were out looking for garlands and bows, we also looked for the candles at Walmart, the dollar store and Home Goods – no luck. I looked on line for them and found them at Joanne’s fabric so I ordered a couple sets for store pick up.

So then we went out for errands yesterday. I picked up the new garlands at Lowes. Picked up the candles at Joann’s, stopped at the Korean grocery store for some kimchee and bought a gift certificate for DD. She loves to shop there. After that we stopped at Trader Joe’s and bought a few things I can only get there. And then a stop at BJ’s Gas to fill up the tank and get a can full for the snow blower. The storm is supposed to hit here this afternoon and the snow predictions are all over the place – depends on how close the center gets to land. Could be anything from a major blizzard to some snow washed away by rain.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.
