My DS and the kids drove out to Ft. Snelling Cemetery today to see if the headstone for my mom and dad was up yet and it was! I took pictures and will share them when I get back. The stone turned out wonderfully! I am so pleased and happy that I was able to do this for my parents.

Afterwards we took the kids to McDonald's for lunch and then to the park. It was a nice day. Tomorrow my son goes into work at noon tomorrow so he'll be here in the morning. My DIL stayed home from work today. Not really sure what is wrong. I asked if she was going to work tomorrow and my DS said he wasn't sure, so I'm not sure what she has.

I will figure out something for the kids and I to do tomorrow - maybe walk down to the local park.

Leslie - I'm glad your housekeeper and you got everything disconnected correctly and that everything is working! That's a great feeling when it's all done with! LOL
My DH will be starting Metformin for his diabetes, so no insulin. I think he should be able to regulate his blood sugar with the meds alone. His brother takes insulin ( a lot of it) but he is an alcoholic and drinks excessively!

Kate - My DS did seem to think the headstone at the cemetery was recently set - he said the ground right at the bottom of the stone was still soft. So, it was probably set fairly recently and I just haven't been notified yet.
I'm glad your DGS slept in - Dakota also slept until almost 8:30am!! That is quite late for her. The kids went to bed early tonight since they did not get a nap today with us being gone. And Ryan only got out of bed twice!! I know he was tired!
Our nice weather is going to get a bit more humid over the next couple of days down here in the city. I think we will still have nice weather when I get back up to the cabin on Saturday.

Hope you have a great day!

You were right, MEMA - my housekeeper was here yesterday and that's why I didn't post. We had quite a job disconnecting my old answering machine, and making sure my phone, modem, and Lifeline receiver were all still plugged into the 2 phone ports in the wall behind the computer desk which we had to pull out to get back there to untangle all the wires! Everything is working!
I'm glad you were able to spend time with your friend yesterday, and you got to your DS's house all right. I'm glad Dakota is feeling better!
Is your DH on oral medication for diabetes? I hope that will work well for him so he won't need to be on insulin.
That's good news that a statin reduces one's risk of heart attack; I take one too.
Our temps are good right now too, mid- to upper-70s, and finally today the humidity is lower. It was awful yesterday - by the time I had stripped the bed, sorted the laundry, and taken out the garbage, my face was dripping with sweat, and my bangs were soaked.

Kate - Oh, pears with cottage cheese sound lovely! I'll have to try that too. Thanks!
Wow, your DS has a LOT of family and friends to invite! I hope it won't be difficult for them to decide where to get married, and who to have perform the ceremony. My DS and his DW decided to have a non-denominational ceremony at the chapel on the Middlebury campus. Her family is Catholic and very religious (attending daily Mass), and my DS's family is mostly Jewish, and less religious.
I'm sorry about the numbness and tingling in your leg. I'm glad you've found out what is going on. Do you know when you'll start PT? Have you started using that medication? I hope it helps. My spine is very twisted from scoliosis, and bent from kyphosis, so I mostly ignore numbness and tingling, but if it were waking me up at night I'd want to do something about it too.
I'm sorry you forgot your Monday meeting. I got a kick out of my housekeeper yesterday - I guess she'd been rattled by the answering machine ordeal, plus the high humidity, and forgot to take my recycling down, and also forgot to change my calendar for me. I have 3 separate bags for recycling, and I can really only carry 2 at a time, because I need my other hand for either my cane, or the railing in the hall; I'll take down 2 today and 1 tomorrow. I'll also see if I can do the calendar. I have to get up on a step stool, and lean across my secretary desk to reach the wall where the calendar hangs. If I can't do it safely, I'll just prop it up on the top of the desk.
I'm glad you were able to take care of your DGS last night to help out your DD. I'm happy to hear he got more sleep! I'm sure he needed it.

I hope you're both having good days!

Leslie - hope you had a good day reading.

Mema – nice that you can have a day w/ your DS home from work.

I had heard that it is usually 6 months before the ground settles enough to put up a headstone. Maybe it depends on the type of ground?

DD asked us to keep DGS overnight b/c she had a doctor’s appt. in Boston this morning and it saves her having to drive out here to drop him off and then go back into the city. Fortunately we got him to bed early and he slept a bit late so I think he’s catching up on sleep. I’ll have to get up quickly to make him a lunch for camp as well as the 2 snacks I normally make for him.

One more hot day and we’ll have some better weather for a few days. We’re on track to have a record breaking hot July. I think Thursday I’ll be able to open the windows overnight and cool the house off. I’m so grateful for air conditioning in our bedroom, the living room and the family room. I have cool places to sleep and to hang out during the day.

I had a very good visit with my friend today- we had a lot of catching up to do. Then I went to my DS's house. The kids were home with one of the other grandma's. Dakota was feeling pretty good. She's been on her medication for a few days so it was kicking in.

Not sure what we will do tomorrow. It is actually my DS's day off, so we'll all be home together. I may ask him if we can drive over to Ft. Snelling. I don't know if the headstone is up yet. I'm supposed to get notification when it's there, but it's been about 6 weeks.

Leslie - I'm not sure if this was your housecleaning day, but maybe that is why you didn't post. Hope you had a good day!

Kate - I hope you do get the nicer weather - we have really had some great days! And quite a few in a row now.
Wow - that is quite a list for the wedding! I think usually now, everything takes a year to get all your reservations and everything that goes in planning a wedding. A wedding dress itself takes a long time to get. But if a couple is going smaller, it seems like things can happen faster.
Sorry to hear about your numbness and tingling, but it sounds like you doing everything you can right now.
Sorry you missed your meeting, but I know being so busy I've forgotten things like that, too.

Hope you both have a great day!

Mema – Safe traveling today as you go to visit your friend. Hope you have a lovely time w/ your DS and his family. Poor Dakota. Strep is so painful but at least it can usually be wiped out quickly by antibiotics.

Leslie – I prefer my cottage cheese w/ pears. LOL

We’re also getting hot and muggy. I hope the nicer weather that Mema is getting will move this way.

My DS said it would be nice to be married around Christmas when he was telling me about his plans to propose. He also said that he listed his friends and family and got up to around 200 guests!! Whew! I don’t think Christmas is possible. I think there is going to be a lot of talking going on over the next months about what/where/ and when. There is also the discussion of Catholic vs. Protestant. I don’t know much about the Catholic church but I think they have lots of requirements to get married in that church. Neither my DS or his GF is religious but all four of us parents are. We’ll have to see what her parents think about who performs the ceremony.

I’ve been having some numbness and tingling in the outer side of my left leg for quite a while. It was happening more often so I talked w/ my PC about it this spring. She sent me for an MRI and they sent me to a spine specialist. As I expected, there is some narrowing of the spinal canal and the opening for the L4 nerve on the left side caused by osteo arthritis and general age-related degeneration. And also as I expected, the best treatment at this point is exercise. He’s going to refer me to a PT who specializes in lower spine and also is familiar w/ yoga. He says she’ll have a couple of sessions w/ me and help me focus my exercise routine so I’m doing what will help support the spine and not do further damage. He also is having me try a nerve calming medicine at night to see if that helps me not wake up so often b/c my leg is bothering me.

I rarely miss my OA meetings but yesterday after getting home from my appointment, I took DGS to camp and went to the pharmacy for my medications then came home and caught up on my posting. I totally forgot my Monday meeting.

I did some cleaning today and some packing for going to see my DS. I have also started my list of clothes and things that I need down there for my winter trip. I will bring some things along this trip and more later.

DH went to the dr. - he's got a prescription for his diabetes. The doctor is checking on getting him an appointment for his colonoscopy and endoscopy (he gets acid in his throat sometimes during the night and wakes up coughing terribly). He also did a risk assessment for heart attack and his risk over the next 10 years is 38%; however, the doctor said if he goes on a statin (even though is cholesterol is good), it will lower his risk to 23%! DH is going to check with his BIL who happens to be a doctor, but will probably do that. I guess the statin "cleans" out your arteries and that's why it helps lower your risk for heart attack.

Tomorrow I will leave bright and early and head to see my girlfriend first. Then when I get over to DS's house I will watch Dakota alone for awhile. My DIL has to take Ryan to a Kindergarten thing at school. They prefer not to have siblings along, but I also found out Dakota has strep - poor thing. DIL stayed home with her today. One of the other grandma's will be with her tomorrow until I get there.

Leslie - I love cottage cheese with peaches! DH did like his dinner. His b-day was pretty low key, the way he likes it. So far, though none of his kids have called him. They may call tonight.
We're headed for a very nice week now - temps in the 70's to low 80's - low humidity and dew point and then lows at night in the 50's and 60's. Today was a beautiful day.

Kate - emoticon on your son's engagement! And what a great picture!! His fiance is a very pretty lady!!
As far as trying to hurry the food along - up here, there is usually only 1 cook and not much that can be done even if she would have said something - that's the unfortunate thing about this tiny town. Normally, they don't go out to eat up here and so she also had no idea it was going to be like that. Under normal circumstances, I'm sure she would have said something. She did say the boys were busy with some sort of game (like a pin-ball machine) that they were playing, so they weren't fussing. This is very much a tourist town in the summer and especially on the week-ends.
I'm glad to hear your DGS is handling the situation pretty well with his mom and dad. I'm sure it's still going to be hard.

I will try and post while I'm at my DS's. I should be able to. I'm bringing along my laptop and can do it after the kids go to bed. With my laptop I have a keyboard, so it's much easier to type than trying to post with just my phone!

Have a great day!!

Kate - I hope your appointment went well.
I'm eager to hear the news about the proposal, and how the family dinner was last night.

Mema -I'm sorry DH's daughter and family didn't get there until so late. It's too bad they had to wait so long to eat, but I guess going to a bar for food isn't ideal, especially on a Saturday night! Too bad there weren't other options.
I'm glad you had a good visit after church, and they were able to leave during a bit of a break in the heavy rain.
Wow - more photos! I don't blame you for not wanting to do more albums.
I don't think the show You sounds really appealing to me. I've been watching a show called Mr. Selfridge about a guy who opened a big department store in London in 1909, and now in the second season the first WW is just starting in 1914. I have been enjoying it. I also have more of Queen of the South to watch. I don't seem to be enjoying the third season as much as I liked the first two. I will finish it though.
I did enjoy the class this morning, thanks.
I hope your DH is having a happy birthday, and I hope you both enjoy the sausage and beans. I'll be having cottage cheese with peaches tonight.
It's muggy and hazy today and there could be thunderstorms this afternoon. Tomorrow and Wednesday are supposed to be nicer days.
I'm off to do my afternoon reading!

I hope you're both having good days.

I have an early morning appointment down in Boston. I’m just going to say "Hi" and then get myself up and dressed. I’ll be back later to post more.

Later:

Mema – That’s really late for small children to be up and waiting to be fed. I’m surprised that your DH’s daughter didn’t speak w/ the waitstaff and get the food moving along. DGS called me that night b/c he was hungry and wanting DD to make some food. She just wanted to get him into bed. He had eaten here but that was at 5:30 so he was ready to eat again 4 hours later.

Leslie – that sounds like a fun movie.

I haven't had a chance to down load and look over the photos from our vacation trip. I'll have to do that over the next few days. So far we've been busy w/ DGS here on Saturday and the engagement celebration yesterday.

Here is one of the engagement photos from yesterday. From what DS and GF shared, it was a magical moment. He proposed half way through "their song". All the people around him were clapping and cheering. Since it was a small venue, the singer noticed and gave them a congratulatory shout out.

DGS seems to be taking things in stride w/ his Dad moving out. DD thinks things will be better w/ just the 2 of them. I hope so. DGS will need to be enrolled in the before school program as well as the after care.

We had a nice visit with DH's daughter. They didn't get in last night until close to 10:30 pm. They had decided to stop at one of the bars that serve food at about 7:00 pm and waited over 2 hours for their food! They didn't realize that on a Saturday night, food isn't the priority at 7 pm. emoticon And there are only a couple places that actually have a regular menu, so they were stuck.

So, after church today when we got home, that's when we had our visit. It started raining about 1:00 and rained most of the rest of the day. I think we got quite a bit of rain, too - there were times it was coming down pretty hard. DH's daughter and family left around 3:30, when there was a bit of a break in the rain.

I found that I have a bunch of photos up here - not NEARLY as many as I had in TX, but enough that I will be sorting thru these. I'm not exactly sure why these were up here and the rest in TX, maybe I'll figure it out as I'm going thru them. But no more photo albums! LOL Any photos I think DS may want, I'll put into a bag! Ha Ha!

Leslie - I finished watching a 1 season show called "You" - about this guy who falls in love with this gal and thinks she's his perfect match, but ends up having to kill off some of her friends that don't like him in order to keep her to himself. It was interesting and a lot of the time, there was conversation like he was "thinking out loud". There was only one season and it looks like it could continue, but not sure I would watch it unless there was nothing else. And no one in this show was anyone I recognized.
Have fun at your exercise class!

Kate - Thank you for the b-day wishes for DH! He's not a big b-day person. I asked him if he wanted any special dinner tomorrow and he wants polish sausage and beans! Pretty easy for me!
Well, I'm very curious to hear how it all went with your DS and his proposal!!
I agree with Leslie - the whale watching sounds very cool. But I know what you mean about having children along - now you see it, now you don't. That would be hard. But glad that they were able to see the fin whales skimming the ocean. That would be pretty neat.
Did you ever find out why DGS was still up at 10 pm and calling you? Hope it didn't get too late for him tonight with the celebration.

Have a great day!

emoticon

Mema - I'm not surprised you were getting tired out!
I'm glad you enjoyed the anniversary dinner too. That prime rib sounds amazing.
What time did DH's daughter and family finally get there?
I'm glad you're looking forward to your getaway this week.
Your DH is still young, to me! I hope he has a very happy birthday tomorrow.
I haven't been out at all this weekend, but I'll be out tomorrow for the exercise class so I'll need to check for messages when I get back.

Kate - The whale watching sounds incredible - I would love to do that.
I love greens, and radishes, and green beans! I worked a few summers at a Del Monte green bean canning plant in Wisconsin. I have fond memories of that job.
I'm glad you got peaches too. I ordered some with my last bunch of groceries and loved them.
I'm sorry your DGS is staying up so late at night. I hope he'll get back on track this week.
How exciting that your DS is proposing today - I hope she says yes! Nice that you'll have a family gathering later.

I watched a movie last night called Something Borrowed. The only actor whose name I recognized was Kate Hudson. I especially loved the little dance routine she did with the other female lead, who reminded me a lot of Valerie Bertinelli. (sp?)
I got up maybe a little too early this morning, but felt rested. I'll go to bed early tonight.

I hope you both are having good days!

Mema – Happy B’day to your DH. You’ve been so busy that I’m sure a few days away w/ your friend will be restful.

Whale watching as an adult is fascinating. With young children it can difficult b/c you are in the boat for so long (3-4 hours) and only see whales for a short part of that time. “Look, there’s one! Oh, it’s gone now!” But fortunately the two fin whales were near the surface and came up a number of times so everyone got a chance to see them. They are huge so you can see the head and then the back sliding above the water for a fairly long time.

Glad you were able to plot an alternate route home from your trip and not sit in the traffic.

Leslie – nice that your sleep is back on schedule and your answering machine is set up.

Our veggie share was still a lot of greens but also some radishes, onions and green beans. The fruit is still running late this season. We got blueberries again and the first peaches of the season.

It’s so good to be back into an almost normal schedule today. DD came to pick up DGS around 7 last night. I told her he was really tired out and hadn’t been sleeping very well. I suggested an early bed time. I got a call from DGS at 10PM that woke me up. He still wasn’t in bed. Sigh! They’re going to be up late tonight, too. We’re having a family gathering w/ the in laws-to-be after DS proposes this afternoon. I think the poor kid is going to be totally fried on Monday when he goes back to camp.

I apologize for not posting last night. I was just tired out. This is getting to be too much, even for me!!
Last night we met up with DH's friends for the fish fry. That was good and we had a real nice visit.
Tonight, we went to my cousin's 40th wedding anniversary dinner - prime rib!! I have never gotten such a huge piece of meat! It was at least 2" thick! Both nights we were at the casino for the events, but 2 different casinos.
DH's daughter and family are supposed to be coming up tonight. They are looking at some land to possibly buy and for right now, they can clear a part of it so they could put their tent up there and stay. They were doing that all day and then supposed to come here to sleep. But they haven't shown up yet and it's almost 8:30 pm. They have 2 boys and the youngest is 5 years old, I would think it should be getting close to his bed time.
I will be glad to get away for a few days come Tuesday!!
Monday is my DH's b-day - 71 years!! He also has his appt. with his dr. His blood sugar was still high when he got his results last week, so I'm guessing the doc will put him on some sort of medication.

Leslie - I'm so glad you are getting back on a regular sleep schedule.
I'm sure remembering to check your phone for messages will take a bit of getting used to. You could leave yourself a note next to the phone as a reminder. That would be hard if there is no blinking light.

Kate - Your trip back home sounded very nice - a good way to end the whole week for you and your DGS.
I'm sure you are pretty tired out, too! That can be a long week with an active boy!
I'm sorry about your DD and her partner - it is always hard on the kids. If they can work together as far as visits and things, I think it makes it a bit easier - there's not as much tension for the child to see or "feel". But sometimes that's not always possible. It wasn't for my DH, but after my divorce, my ex and I were always very civil and eventually got along great! Even now, we still get along well.

Hope you have a relaxing Sunday!

I'm very sorry to hear that your DD and partner are splitting up. I'm sure that will be very tough for your DGS. How will it work for the times his dad had been taking care of him? Does your DGS know anything about this, or will it be a total surprise for him? I'm sure it will be a shock.

I'm glad you were able to pick up your fruits and veggies yesterday. What did you get? I really love the summer fruits - peaches, plums, cherries...

I'm sure it will be nice for you to relax tomorrow without having to watch out for DGS.

I slept well again last night, so I guess I'm finally back on track.

I hope you're both having good days.

We did a round-a-bout trip home. We finished the last part of the tour at 10 and swung clockwise around Boston to the north west for a lunch stop and then an afternoon at a children’s discovery center. After that, we swung to the north and picked up our farm share of veggies and fruit that we usually get locally on Thursday. The only place we could pick up on Friday instead was about 15 miles north of our town.

DGS spent the night w/ us at DD’s request. She’ll pick him up tonight. There’s trouble waiting at home for him. DD’s partner is supposed to be moving out yesterday and today. DD didn’t want DGS home while that happens. IDK. It’s going to be rough for him to come home and find his daddy gone. Their partnership has been pretty bad for a long time but DGS loves them both and this will be hard on him.

I have scanned all the posts but haven't really had time and attention to comment. I'll try to get caught up tomorrow. It will be nice to be back on a regular schedule and not have half my attention on DGS all the time.

Kate - I hope you're having, or had a safe trip home! I'm glad you've enjoyed your experiences. I'm sure your DGS appreciated the trip too.

Mema - how fortunate that you had seen the horrible traffic heading north, so you were able to use an alternate route coming home. And, it's great that it was more scenic too.

I did finally have a good sleep last night, and feel so much better today! I hope that will continue.

My answering service on the phone is set up now. I think I'll like it, but I don't have a phone with a light to blink when I have messages, so I'll have to check each time I've been out.

I'm glad your friend will be there for you to visit on Tuesday! And I hope you have a wonderful time with your friends at the casino and Fish Fry today.

It's sunny and warm here today, but a bit hazy. I have the fan on now, and I'm comfortable with that.

I just wrote a very long email to a friend I hadn't written to since before the wedding, so there was a lot to say and now I feel all 'talked out'. Can't think of other news anyway.

I hope you're both having good days.

Just a quick check in this morning. We have breakfast and one quick tour this morning. I have to get everything packed so we can check out immediately after the tour. It’s been a lovely trip.

Our trip to the Twin Cities went well, although the traffic on I-35 going North (and we were going South) was horrendous due to construction, so we took another route home which was a nicer route - much more scenic and very little traffic.

Tomorrow I will do some laundry and then we will meet up with DH's friends at the casino for the Fish Fry and catching up.

Leslie - I'm sorry you are having such a hard time sleeping. I do hope you can get back "in sync".
I talked with my friend tonight and she will be home next Tuesday, so I will stop and see her and we can catch up, too!
We had a nice breeze all day today - actually sometimes it was pretty windy - while driving. But once we got home, it was lovely - the breeze was coming off the lake right into my bedroom!
Sorry about your answering machine, but I hope having the service on your phone works out better.
I think I am one of those "occasional" smokers. I can go days w/out it - especially if I'm around people who don't smoke, then it doesn't seem to bother me. But I do enjoy it when I do and keeping track of it helps me to know exactly how much I am smoking.

Kate - The whale watching sounds fascinating! I've never been to a place to have that opportunity. I was out in the Gulf of Mexico and saw dolphins, but that was it. They were fun to watch.
Your trip is certainly sounding like a wonderful experience! I think your DGS will have a lot of great memories!
I think you're right about some people having addictive personalities and some don't. I know I fall into that category of addiction.

Have a fun Friday!

Mema - I'm glad you're done with changing passwords - I'm sure that was an enormous pain!
I hope that young man at the meeting had his eyes, and ears, opened! I get a kick out of that expression 'poor me, poor me, pour me a drink', hahaha! I know I've been there too. I hope he'll continue to come to that meeting so you'll be able to see if he's getting the message.
I hope the MRI goes well today, and I hope your DH will get the results soon. I'm glad your thyroid result is WNL (within normal limits), and your doctor has ordered the med for the next year!
I had a hard time getting to sleep again last night, so had to take half of one pill; then I woke up about an hour too early, so it wasn't a great night. I hope my sleep will get back to normal soon.
I like maple syrup, either the 'real' stuff or the stuff from the store. The real syrup gets mouldy quickly if not refrigerated.
It's sunny here today, and the temp is gradually getting higher again. It's about 80 today, which is fine with me.
I'm sorry your grandkids won't be coming to your place, but it's good you'll get to see them. Visiting with your friend the day before sounds like a great idea - I hope it all works out.

My old answering machine just quit working yesterday, so I've ordered the answering service on my phone. It's supposed to be functional within 24 hours, so I'll check it out tomorrow morning. I may need Lou's help (housekeeper) to remove the answering machine and make sure the phone is still working properly. She'll be here on Tuesday.

Kate - how exciting that the whale watch went well! I'm glad you saw two types of whales. Were there very many, or just one of each? I'm glad the combination of Dramamine and Pepsi worked so that your DGS got to see the whales without being seasick.
I'm glad the half of the sleeping tablet is helping you to sleep. I think I may be dealing a bit with the manic side of my bipolar disorder, after getting so anxious about the wedding. I've increased my anti-psychotic dose a bit, and took half of a pill when I realized I wasn't falling asleep. I think I'll just take that tonight before I go to bed. I don't want to need to do that too long.
All those ocean critters sound fascinating!
I'm glad your DS learned his lesson after losing his license for 2 years! I have never figured out how people smoke 'occasionally' - it was certainly all or nothing for me!

I hope you're both having good days today!

The whale watch went well and we saw two different types of whales. DGS wasn’t sea sick w/ the Dramamine but it was putting him to sleep. DH suggested we give him a Pepsi. He drank one glass and asked for second cup full. The combo of caffeine and sugar woke him up and he got to see the whales.

We had free time in the afternoon and he spend 3 hours in the pool w/ some of the other little boys.

Leslie – hope you are able to get back to a good sleep schedule. I’ve been using ½ a sleeping tablet each night so I can sleep here in the hotel.

From the ocean, they dredged a sea urchin, a crab and a sea star. Those they took to the institute to run some tests. At the tide pool, they returned all the critters to the water.

Mema – glad you got your passwords changed. There is so much junk going on in the cyber world.

My DS had a drunk driving accident just 6 weeks after he got his license and was ordered to AA meetings. I don’t think he got much out of them but losing his license for 2 years was certainly effective in teaching him never to drive while drinking. I don’t think either my DS or DD have the “addictive-type” personality. Both of them will sometimes drink and sometimes smoke but neither make a habit of it.

We get the pure maple syrup and that’s all I ever use. Don’t like the stuff you get at restaurants that is just colored corn syrup.

Well, I think I have everything changed that I need to change as far as passwords and such. So, now I'll just keep an eye on my junk email to see if anything else pops up! I certainly hope not. This was scary. The 2 emails I received (which we didn't even open), but I could see the first part of the message and the subject, which was "I seen you" and the the beginning of the text was something like - I've been able to see your passwords - xxxxxxx and your computer is infected w/a virus..... The password was correct except the numbers and the letters were turned around - so it wasn't it exactly, but very close!!

I went to my meeting today, it was smaller than usual, but it turned out to be a very good meeting. One young man (I'd say he's mid 20's) and has been "ordered" to attend so many meetings, was complaining that he didn't feel like he was being treated better and things just didn't seem to be going the way he wanted them to go in spite of coming to meetings - WELL - pretty much everyone who shared after him made some comment about not having expectations of other people just because we're not drinking anymore and to be grateful for everything you do have. Helping someone else for the sake of helping then w/out the expectation of anything in return, gets us out of our heads and that self-pity, poor me, poor me, pour me a drink....mentality. Hopefully, he got the message. I tend to worry when I see young people here that have been mandated, thinking this may be their first time they got "caught" and so they don't think they have a problem and they just bide their time.
In TX, I have seen a few people start out that way, but after awhile they actually get it. I hope this young man does too. I haven't seen that up here, yet.

Tomorrow, we'll head to the Twin Cities for DH's MRI. We don't have to leave early, his appt. is at 3:15 pm. And that's all we have to do.

I got my test results back and my Thyroid number is back in normal range, so I don't have to do anything other than keep taking my medication the way my dr. told me to 8 weeks ago. I sent her an email asking her if there was anything I needed to do and she responded right away that I was "good to go" and she actually submitted a brand new prescription to my mail order pharmacy for the next year!

Leslie - I did sleep better myself, too. And I woke up at 5:00 am! Very unusual for me. I stayed up for a couple of hours, but then I got tired again and fell back to sleep for another hour and a half.
Your meal sounds delicious!! I tend to use my oven on cool days, too. I made pancakes and bacon for supper tonight because one of our friends from church brought a bottle of Pure Maple syrup that his friends make and we usually buy one from him every year and we just got it last Sunday. Actually, I don't really care for it as much - probably because I never had it and I'm so used to the store bought stuff. But DH likes to get a bottle each year. Whatever we don't use up we give to his kids.
It was a bit warmer today, but supposed to be cooler tomorrow. We've really had a nice stretch of days here.
I'll be going to the Twin Cities next week to take care of the kids Wed/Thur/Fri. They aren't coming here. And I may stop and see my friend on Tuesday before going to my DS's place. We've been calling each other and missing phone calls, so I left her a message about coming down.
Glad you got to your exercise class and that it went fast! Nice!

Kate - Wow - you had a little exciting adventure yesterday!
Kind of scary about the tornado warning and it touching down close to you. Good thing you were inside anyway.
Having lunch on the beach sounds nice! It really sounds like the kids are having a wonderful adventure in learning! Plus the added bonus of it being fun! LOL

Have a great day!

I finally slept about 7 hours last night, after taking two extra medications. I hope I can sleep without aids tonight!
I made it to the exercise class this morning - it really went fast!
I have already had my big meal of the day, hot Italian sausages with potatoes, and red and green peppers. I forgot to add onion, but it was pretty good, and I have enough for 2 more meals. This will be the coolest day of the week, so I was glad I was using the oven today!

Mema - I'm glad your appointment went quickly yesterday, and hope the test results will all be good.
I'm glad you enjoyed your Chinese food, and got home early.
Wow, how awful that someone got one of your passwords! What made you realize that it was a problem with the password? I'm very glad there were no extra charges on your account or on your credit card! I keep getting scam calls saying they are calling about an unusual $600 charge on my Visa card. I just hang up on them, and keep an eye on my Visa balance to be sure there actually are not any unusual charges. That was a lot of work for you, changing your passwords, etc.!
I really hope you had a better sleep last night.

Kate - glad you got back from the boat trip when you did! It does sound like a lot of watery times! What sort of sea creatures do they dredge up, and do they return them to the water after they've been examined?
I'm really sorry your DGS was seasick, so it is good that the trip wasn't longer. I'm glad he enjoyed the critters.
It's certainly fortunate that it wasn't your motel the tornado took the roof from!
It all sounds like a great adventure!

I hope you're both having good days today.

We had a soggy adventure yesterday. We drove through bits of rain to get to the boat and went out to use the undersea camera and dredge up sea creatures. The captain said there was storm coming in so we’d have to head back earlier than originally planned. DGS turned out to be sea sick so I was glad we headed back sooner. As it was, we had just set foot on the dock when the first lightning struck. The heavens opened and it poured as we ran across the parking lot and into the marine institute. Soggy and dripping, we had time to see the creatures they had picked up and a few others from earlier trips. DGS revived as soon as he was on steady ground and enjoyed all the critters.

(While we were there, we all got emergency warnings of a tornado. They are very rare around here and no one seemed to think we needed to do anything since we were already in a secure building. We later found out that it had touched down not that far away and lifted the roof off a motel.)

Then we went to lunch and afterwards to the beach. Fortunately the rain stopped and the skies brightened a bit so the kids had fun in the water for about half an hour. Then we walked down to beach to a place we could cut across to a salt marsh. The kids were all into the water again hunting for living thing. They caught several types of snails, fish and crabs.

Finally back to the hotel for showers, dinner and back into the pool for all the kids. They certainly got all forms of wet yesterday.

We were in and out of the doctor's office quite quickly this morning, so that was good. I should be able to go into my account with them and review my blood test tomorrow some time. And if it looks off, I'll have to make an appointment with my dr.

We did do good on shopping today, too. I think we were home by 3:30! My Egg Fu Yung was delicious.

I had a terrible time getting to sleep last night and then when I did, I kept waking up, so I was tired. When we got home, I checked my email and it looked like someone had gotten a hold of one of my passwords (same letter and numbers, but switched around), and it was on my Walmart account, so I cancelled that whole account because my credit card is on file there. Luckily, there were no extra charges. It was that type of email where they want to ransome you for money! It's a big scam, but scary! Then I called my cc and cancelled my card and I'll be getting a new one. And again, no extra charges. But then, I had to go and change all my passwords on any account that I've set up where I may have purchased something. So that was a very long process. And then, I eliminated a lot of "subscriptions" for emails that I really never look at anymore. So I am tired out, and I'm going to bed.

Leslie - hope you will get a better night's rest, as well.

Kate - your trip sounds very interesting!

I'll write more tomorrow.

I was so exhausted yesterday afternoon that I had to start getting ready for bed at 5:30, and was probably asleep by about 6 PM, but I kept waking up during the evening, and by 1 AM I finally got up and made my bed. I've tried to have a nap, and I guess I did doze a bit, but I was mostly awake. No doubt I'll have to go to bed early again tonight. I really hope I'll have the energy to get to the class tomorrow! I'm getting a little tired of this.

Mema - How wonderful that you have your flights all booked to be with your family over the Christmas vacation! That will be wonderful, and the price sounded very good to me! (I spent almost that much, well more with the tip, to take the taxi home Saturday afternoon.)
I'm glad you had nice weather for doing yard work.
Enjoy your Egg Fu Yung today! I love almost all Chinese food.
I'm happy for you that your DS and the kids will be there next week. I know you'll have a wonderful time!
Yes, Saturday was certainly an unusual day for me. As much as I loved seeing everyone, I really felt 'all peopled out'. I wish it weren't taking so long to bounce back.

Kate - It sounds as if your time there is very educational! I imagine that writing with a quill and ink would be rather tiresome, always having to dip for ink. I used a fountain pen in school and loved that.
I'm sure the talk by the member of the Wampanoag tribe was fascinating. I'm sure the arrival of the Europeans was quite devastating to their way of life.
I'm glad your DGS had a veggie burger! I'm fussy about how eggs are cooked too - I don't like runny yolks at all. Most people would consider my eggs overdone! I'm sorry he doesn't tolerate dairy well.
I'm glad he's making friends, and interesting that he's drawn to the boys a little older than he is. One of my great-nephews is so tall, I think he's at least as tall as I am and he's just 10! I'm sorry one of the younger boys seems to be having a hard time. Who is he there with, one grandparent or two? I'm glad he is enjoying himself at least some of the time.
Oh dear, I can imagine that it would be a little disruptive to have the boys all running around the lobby. Are there places outside for them to run?
I'm sure the ride on the scientific boat would be quite interesting - what are they studying/monitoring? I hope it hasn't been raining too hard.

I hope you're both enjoying your days!

We had a lovely first day. The historic reproduction village of Plimoth and the Native American village were both interesting. And we also had a lesson in how to use a quill and ink to write in the morning and a talk by a member of the Wampanoag tribe in the afternoon about what their lives were like before the Europeans arrived. We had lunch at the guest center there. After dinner back here in the hotel all the kids were in the pool again.

They did give DGS pasta w/ plain tomato sauce for dinner but he had a veggie burger for lunch so he got some protein for the day. He will eat eggs although he’s fussy about how they’re cooked. He is becoming lactose intolerant so dairy is less of an option. He’ll get stomach issues if he eats too much cheese.

DGS seems to be making friends w/ all the kids but is particularly drawn to the 2 kids going into 5th grade. One is 10 and the other will be 10 next month but DGS who is 8 is already taller than both of them. There are 2 boys who are 7 and another 8 yr old. Those 3 seem to be hanging together as a group. One of the 7 yr olds seems to be having a bit of a tough time. I’ve seen him curled up crying a few times. But in between those times, he seems to be having fun w/ the boys.

I had to pull DGS apart last night and speak to him b/c they had been running around the lobby and the management had "spoken to" the tour guides. Groups of small boys can quickly get out of hand.

Today we’re headed out on a scientific boat from Woods’ Hole and then for a shore walk. Unfortunately it’s raining but that’s only to be expected around here. We rarely get 5 nice days in a row.

Leslie – I can understand being more tired the second day. That seems to happen to me.

Mema – nice that you have your winter plans all set and could get a good price on the flight. Hope your busy day goes well.

It was a nice day today and I got some cleaning done and then did some yard work. We have rock pathways and the rocks seem to "find a way" into the grass, so I raked them back into the pathway. Then I went around and picked up all the large sticks in the yard. We had one big branch that broke off in the front yard. I ended up getting in a lot of steps!

Tomorrow morning we go get our blood work done then head into Rice Lake. I won't have to cook tomorrow as we will eat at the Chinese buffet place. And it will be early afternoon, so they will have the Egg Fu Yung that I like so well. emoticon

I am going to see my son and the kiddos next week!! I haven't been down to their house since early June, but they were up once and then I saw Dakota at the shower for my niece and then again both kids at the wedding. But it will be fun to have them to myself for 3 days.

Then I booked my flight for this winter. I'm actually flying into Minneapolis Dec. 23rd and will leave on Jan. 5th, so I will be up there for Christmas which will be fun and I will also be there for my DS's birthday, which I haven't been around for for years! The kids will be on Christmas break, so then my DS won't have to pay for day care since I will be there. When I asked him about coming up those days I told him that I didn't want to interfere with any of their Christmas obligations (they usually have a LOT) and he said, Well, since you know everyone so well, you'll probably be able to come along! That was awfully nice of him, but I'll see when I get up there. I'm hoping to be able to fly up at this time for the next few years since they both will be in school now this fall. I also got a pretty good price - $316.60 for everything - my baggage and seat both ways!

Leslie - I suppose it can take a couple of days to get rested up - that was an awfully busy day for you. I'm sorry you missed your exercise, but it was probably good to rest.
We don't usually see my DH's friends in TX - Austin is a 6 hour drive from our place. They came down to the valley several years ago, but now they have been coming up to this area for their vacation every year to get away from the heat down there.
I'm glad you will have a nice cool evening - we will here as well.

Kate - I'm glad your DGS was able to get to the pool twice and the second time with his "friends". My DS was always making a "friend" at places. Especially when we would go camping with my mom and dad.
That is funny and sad about the waitress suggesting chicken for a vegetarian entree! I hope he can get some better choices for the rest of the week.
Enjoy your time!

Have a great Tuesday!

I seem to be more exhausted today than I was yesterday! I had to skip the exercise class this morning. I hope I'll be able to go on Wednesday. We have a new instructor for the summer, starting today. He's a young guy, a student, so I'll look forward to meeting him Wednesday. I don't know who will take his place in the fall.

Mema - I'm glad you had a relaxing day yesterday. It's good that you'll both have the blood tests done tomorrow.
You do have a lot going on this week! I envy the fish fry you'll go to on Friday. I've never known a place other than Wisconsin, where those are such a 'big deal', and all the ones I went to were wonderful! Do you ever see those friends in TX?
I don't know why my clothes weren't fitting well. It was the same outfit I wore for the day I spent with my DS in Toronto last year. I haven't lost weight, but my shape must be changing. My legs must be shorter because the pants were too long, and I had to roll the waistband over. My blouse kept hanging off my right shoulder, exposing my bra strap. My sister-in-law kindly did a bit of an adjustment on that...
It's supposed to go down to 51 here tonight - that will be great!

Kate - I'm sorry you have a poor internet connection where you are!
How was the orientation meeting? Was it before or during dinner? I'm glad the boys all made friends quickly! I'm really sorry that waitress has such a poor understanding of what vegetarians do and don't eat! I hope there will be more selections for your DGS while you're there. What he had for dinner actually sounded pretty good, but no protein... Does he eat cheese or eggs?
What are the activities for today?

I hope you're both having good days!

The internet connection is very sluggish. It takes forever to load each page of the SP site, so I’m going to keep this post short in case it doesn’t up load at all.

I took DGS to the pool after we arrived in Plymouth and had a fun time for about an hour before we had to shower and change for the orientation meeting. The group is a nice size. 12 kids and 17 grandparents. The tour organizers had arranged for the kids to sit at a separate table. The 6 boys at one end and the 6 girls at the other. By the time dinner was over, the boys all knew each other and were ready to go to the pool again. DH took him the second time while I had a little down time in the hotel room.

For dinner they had a buffet which was very good for me, but no accommodations for DGS’s vegetarian meal. I asked the waitress and she looked like she had never heard of such a thing. First she said, “There is salad and vegetables.” And when I asked about an entrée she suggested chicken!!??!! So he had rice, salad and mixed summer squash for is dinner.

Leslie – I’m glad you were able to go and had a good time at the wedding. Nice that so many people were there and able to help you get around. Hope you recover from all the unusual activity.

Mema – sounds like you have a busy week coming up. Hope all the medicals stuff comes out well.

We had another very nice day. I did a few things around the house, but had a pretty relaxing day. This week will be a bit busy. Tuesday DH and I are going in for some blood tests - he's FINALLY getting his glucose and AIC tested and I'm going back for a thyroid check. I had adjusted my medication about 8 weeks ago, so we'll see if it's back in the normal range. DH has an appt. with his doctor next Monday to see the results of his blood work. After our appts. this Tuesday, we'll go to Rice Lake. He needs to pick up some stuff and I need to buy a gift card.

Wednesday is my meeting day. Thursday we'll drive to the Twin Cities for DH to get an MRI on his neck. When he had his lower back surgery last summer, his doctor asked him to get that checked again since it had been quite awhile, just to make sure there isn't anything new showing up.

Friday, DH has some friends that we are meeting at the casino for the fish fry dinner. He went to High School with this guy and he and his wife live in Austin, TX now. Then on Saturday afternoon we're going to my cousin's 40th Wedding Anniversary. They are having a dinner and then a concert afterwards so I wanted to get them a gift card to a restaurant to put in their card that we give them.

Leslie - Oh, I'm so glad you had a wonderful time! I'm sorry about your clothes not fitting properly. I'm sure everyone was just happy to see you. A lot of relatives there for you to visit with - that was great.
That's too bad about the elevator not working, but it sounds like you had a lot of help throughout the day.
That was a lot of money for the cabs, but nice that your sister pitched in.
I'm sure you were exhausted by the time you got home.
It's been a few years since I was at the MOA (Mall of America), but it seems like it keeps growing - not sure if it's retail stores but a lot of restaurants and other "things" to do there.

Kate - I hope you are having a great time on your trip. Great idea to bring along the snacks for DGS.
It's going down to 51 degrees here tonight, so that will be great. I have both of my windows opened up. The slight breeze is coming out of the North, but where I sleep faces South. I'm sure it will still be very comfortable sleeping tonight.
I hope you are having good weather for your trip. I will be eager to hear all about it!

Happy Monday!

Well, I survived the wedding, and I'm very glad I went!

I'm so glad to be home again! Everything did go well yesterday. The cars I was in and the church were all air-conditioned. I am unhappy about the clothes I was wearing - everything was really too big and baggy, and I felt like a slob. It was so good to see everyone though. My sister was gorgeous - her dress and hair were so lovely. Unfortunately I thought the eye makeup was a little overdone, but otherwise she was beautiful, and I'd never seen Bob in a suit before - very handsome!

It was wonderful to see my sister-in-law (brother's widow) and all my nieces and one nephew, who helped me walk out from my pew in the church. He was so sweet. I also loved seeing all my great-nephews and one great-niece. My sister's youngest is apparently still not speaking to her. He wasn't there. He also has a baby boy, so I haven't met him yet.

The people who drove me down to the wedding were very kind. There was an elevator in the church but it wasn't working right, and Lynn (who had driven me down) and I were both getting claustrophobic - it was a small, narrow elevator. I said I would do the stairs, but about halfway up the first flight, my legs just wouldn't push me up any more, and Lynn and her husband each took one arm and helped to boost me up one step at a time. I've never felt like such an invalid! I was certainly grateful for their help though.

I had an awful time getting dressed in the morning because of the heat and humidity. My clothes were all sticking to me, and wouldn't get into the right position.

The cab ride home was interesting - the guy didn't have a clue about directions or geography! I told him to just stay on Highway 6, but he kept mentioning going through cities which were NOT on our way, so I was a little worried. At one point when we got to Owen Sound, I suggested where to turn (to avoid construction) but he told me never mind, the GPS would tell him. But then he got lost, so I had to tell him where to turn, and turn again, to get to my building. He was really nice though, and I gave him a good tip, which he was very pleased with. I spent $410 for the cabs yesterday! I'm very glad that Marion gave in and helped me out with $200.

I had to send emails, or messages on FB, to a lot of people today, to thank them for help, or to just say how good it was to see them. It was a good day, but I was glad to get home!

There was a lovely lunch at the church after the wedding, but I was right - no alcohol there, which was fine with me. We all drank lemonade or water. I sat with my sister-in-law, Carrie, and her 2 daughters, Casey and Sam, and Marion's daughter Stephanie joined us too, and so did Marion when she finally had a chance to sit down.

There were great hymns at the church - the last one was 'Morning Has Broken'. It really was a lovely wedding service. Marion's voice broke a couple of times during the vows. I just wanted to give her a hug, but she was hanging on to Bob's hands. They make a good couple. His daughter was one of the bridesmaids - very pretty - and his son was best man. He is a big man - the son; Bob is very slender. I sat in the front row with one of Carrie's daughters and Marion's son Broder who was so helpful to me.

I'm very glad I was able to go, but very relieved it's over now! I don't plan to do much today. I had a lot of cherries for dinner last night, and also a handful of ripe olives, and some Triscuits with melted cheese. I do have the hot Italian sausages I ordered with my groceries on Friday, but I'm not sure if I'll have the ambition to cook them tonight. I don't have a lot of energy today. They may have to wait until tomorrow. I can easily just eat more fruit and maybe a frozen dinner.

Mema - I'm sorry about your tornado watch! I remember those from my years in Wisconsin. I know what you mean about not feeling well because of the heat. It is finally a little cooler here today, and definitely less humid. I can't imagine wearing pants and sweatshirt though! I've stayed in my nightie all day. I just had no energy to dress or to do much.
I agree that it's sad to see so many stores closing at the mall. Both of the 'big' stores which anchored our mall, Sears and Zeller's (like Target) have closed. I've heard of the Mall of America. Have you been there lately?

Kate - by now you'll be on your way to your vacation with your DGS. I really hope you all have a wonderful time there! I hope your DGS will like the food. Will you all be eating vegetarian meals while you're there?
I was fine while sitting in all 3 cars yesterday, but really stiffened up while sitting for so long, and it took me a few minutes to emerge from the cars each time!
I hope you got some good veggies this month. Good for you for getting them into the freezer! I hope you all have a wonderful time this week!

I hope you're both having lovely Sundays!

Leslie – hope you enjoyed the wedding and that the long drive wasn’t too uncomfortable.

Mema – we’re getting that one cool day on Tuesday – low 70’s for the high and rain off and on. I like it when it cools down at night. I’ll leave all the windows cracked open a bit on the second floor so the house is able to cool down in the nighttime.

We’re almost all packed up. Just a few last minute things to put in the suitcases when we get home from church today. I told my DD we would pick up DGS 1 – 2 PM on the way south to Plymouth.

I worked in the kitchen all afternoon getting the veggies from the farm share processed and put in the freezer. This morning I want to pack up some raw veggies and snacks to bring with us. I’m not sure if the tour people will provide snacky things for the kids and I’m not sure if DGS will like the veggie entrees they make for the meals. Hope it all works out.

Well, what a difference a day makes! I had on pants and a light sweatshirt today! It was in the low 60's this morning and cloudy and rainy off and on. Late this afternoon, the sun came out and it was lovely. This week now our low temps will be in the upper 50's - that will be great sleeping weather.

I basically relaxed most of the day. I did do some burning in the afternoon. DH gave me all the cardboard from the riding lawn mower to burn, but that was about it.

Leslie - I hope you had a lovely time at the wedding. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Kate - I think you're right about heat exhaustion. I felt much better today.
I haven't been to a mall in a long time myself. But I think with so much online shopping these days, those stores can't compete. I think the last time I was at a mall was the Mall of America and that is huge!
I hope you are all ready for your trip tomorrow. Have a great time!

Enjoy your Sunday!

Leslie – hope all goes wonderfully well on your trip and you have a great time at the wedding. I guess pretty much all of the North American continent is feeling the heat.

Mema – that does sound like a bit of heat exhaustion. Make sure you’re well hydrated. We’re hoping for some of that rain but not until Monday.

We had a really nice time yesterday w/ DGS. The mini golf place was pretty and shady so we weren’t too broiled. DH and DGS had ice cream that was included in the Groupon.

After that we went to the mall where the movie theater is. I hadn’t been to that mall in years and it’s sad to see it’s almost empty. At least half the stores are boarded over. There weren’t many places to eat even in the food court. We ended up at Panera although DGS doesn’t like their food. We got him a muffin and a fruit cup. We saw Toy Story 4 and it was good although the “dummies” were creepy and a bit scary.

Today is going to be terribly hot. I have a meeting and a few errands this morning but then I’ll stay home, do laundry and get things packed for our trip tomorrow.

I got my shopping done today. Went a little early so I could avoid the heat, but it was still ungodly hot. We got a nice rain storm after I got home - was supposed to be severe t-storms, but all we got was a little bit of thunder and kind of a down burst of rain, no wind or anything like that. We were under a tornado watch.

I think the heat got to me today because I'm not feeling well. Upset stomach and exhausted, so I'm going to bed after I post this.

Leslie - ENJOY your day tomorrow at your sister's wedding. I will be eager to hear all about it when you get back. I hope it all goes well.
I'm glad you got your forms completed for your bus pass and I hope you get it w/in the 2 week time frame.
I'm sorry it was so humid for you today. Do you have any cold packs in your freezer? I've done that before or just taken ice cubes in a plastic bag and put them on my wrists and the back of my neck.

Kate - That pool looks great!! I'm sure your DGS will have a ball playing and swimming around in there! My 2 little munchkins would love it!
That is cool about the hotel being built on the original settlement.
I can see where you keeping a key to your daughter's car at your place is much more practical. I hope she decides to take you up on your offer of coming over to your house for a day or two. Having a/c makes such a huge difference - even in my mood!
How did you do in mini golf? And did your DGS enjoy the movie?

Have a good day - we're supposed to cool off now - tomorrow's high is 76!! emoticon

Mema - I'm glad your DS's surgery is done. I have a spot on my upper back that formed an abscess a year or two ago, and had it lanced by my doctor. Now it seems to be 'growing' again. I would rather not have surgery on it. Kate is right, deep breathing will help him get rid of the anesthesia, and so will coughing.
I'm glad you're having a day to yourself today! I'm sorry your DH has been 'testy'.
My former OT came this morning and completed the forms for the bus pass. She will mail or fax them today so I should have the pass within 2 weeks. If I don't have it by then, I'm supposed to call whoever issues the passes.
While she was here and I wasn't in front of the fan, I started dripping with sweat. It is feeling like over 100 today with the humidity.
It's funny how directions can be given in rural areas!

Kate - thanks for the photos of the hotel. It looks like a nice place. I'm sure your DGS will love the pool!
It's good that you can't lock your keys in the car!
It sounds as if you have a full day planned for today!
We are in the same heat wave I guess. Tomorrow is also supposed to be brutal, but Sunday will be a little cooler. I hope the church tomorrow will have a/c! That would be great for your DD and family if they could stay at your place for a couple of days. I'm sure the cats would also appreciate the cooler air.

I'll post again on Sunday I hope. I hope all the travelling goes well tomorrow. I hope your trip will go well on Sunday, Kate!

Leslie – nice that your pedicure worked out so well w/ someone to talk with and a speedy ride home.

Hope all goes well on your trip to the wedding this weekend. And that you have a lovely time.

The hotel is fairly good sized. It’s actually built on the same site where the original settlement was. The restored village we’ll see has been built outside where the current town of Plymouth is. Here are some photos from their website. They’ve made the pool into a tiny water park so I think DGS will have fun there in the evenings.

Mema – I had a friend who had the same type of surgery for a recurring cyst. Hope your DS feels better today. Deep breathing can help getting the anesthesia out, too.

Sorry your DH is testy. Dealing w/ your siblings can certainly push your buttons.

The new car we have won’t let you lock your keys in the car. The locks are disabled unless you have your key outside the car with you. Of course you can lock them if you’re in the car driving. We always keep DD’s spare key b/c this has happened before a number of times. She used to keep one at her apartment but that meant we had to drive there to pick it up first.

I had a busy day yesterday getting everything set for our trip – canceling the paper, mail, house cleaners, etc. I got the laundry started, too, because I knew today would be busy.

We’re giving DGS a day off from the camp. We’re headed out to mini golf in the morning. Then we’ll head to the mall for some walking around and lunch. We have tickets to see Toy Story 4 in the afternoon.

We’re headed into a brutal heat wave for the next 3 days. I suggested that DD move her family and her cats here for a day or so. She’s in a 3rd floor (top floor) apartment w/ only one small window a/c to keep her bedroom a bit cooler. I’m not sure it’s going to do much when the temperature gets to 100.

She said she'll think about it. Her friend has planned an outdoor BBQ on Saturday afternoon and she thinks she has to attend. But she might bring her cats over and stay the night.

I got a lot done today. Did my laundry and cleaned the house. Thank goodness we have the air on because it was very humid today and no breeze.

I don't think I mentioned this, but my DS had surgery today. Not anything major and they sent him home today. He often would get cysts on his lower back (almost like a boil), he would have to go and have them lanced and then it would go away for a few months, but come back. He said they were really painful and this last time when he went to urgent care, the dr. there didn't want to lance it for some reason (he's always had it done that way before at urgent care), so he ended up at his doctor's office and his doctor said he could actually do surgery on it and get rid of it for good. He said there are "roots" beneath his skin that never get lanced and so it keeps coming back. So he had that done today. All went well, except he's feeling a bit nauseous from the anesthesia - this is his first surgery as an adult. When he was about 5 or 6 he had his adenoids out and tubes put into his ears. I told him to drink water and try and move about to get the anesthesia out of his body. And if he was still feeling bad in the morning to call his doctor.

Tomorrow I will go to Rice Lake for shopping. Will be nice to go there by myself! LOL DH has been e-mailing with his sister finishing up the Trust issues from their dad and also talking about the upcoming memorial service we will have for his dad up here and so he's a little "testy". He's not real close with his siblings (1 brother and 2 sisters) and they all want to give him "suggestions" that end up making much more work than is needed or wanting to do things that just are impossible to do. So it will be nice to get away for the day!

Leslie - So glad your ride came early for you! And nice that you were able to chat with the woman next to you about your similar work.
I just finished Bad Blood this afternoon. It ended alright.
I hope you can get all your things done that you have in your calendar. And I hope you have a lovely time at your sister's wedding. And as far as the ride - we can only control ourselves, so we just have to leave the rest to our HP. But I do hope you get there in time! emoticon

Kate - I guess the septic guy said he was at another job before us. And he told DH that his truck was almost full after he pumped our tank, so he must have been at another place. Our septic would not fill his truck. When DH called on Monday, he told the gal, We live next to so-n-so. I asked him why he told her that and he said Because everyone knows him. He was Fire Chief of our town for a long time. I thought that was kind of funny when you're giving directions to someone.
Your Wed meeting sounds like a well attended one, too. I know what you mean about spreading out meetings. Up here I was going on Weds. and Sats. But I dropped the Sat. meeting because too many times we have the kids here and it's a 45 min. drive to and back, so that takes up a lot of the day.
Good thing you had the extra car key for your DD. A couple of our cars have the keypad on the outside so we don't have to worry about that. But I ALWAYS double check that I have my keys when driving my Saturn because otherwise I'm outta luck - and usually quite a ways from home, so DH would not be too happy with me! LOL

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm so glad your septic tank is now working properly - I hope it will continue to do so! Too bad it took them so long to get there, with you wondering if they were actually coming.
I'm glad you got to your meeting, and got your errands done too. How wonderful that your DH made ham and bean soup - that sounds delicious!
We're getting hotter weather, and it's supposed to be humid but doesn't seem bad so far today. Tomorrow it's supposed to feel like 106 degrees with the humidity. Saturday is supposed to be hot too.
I'll just leave the driving up to the people I'll be riding with, and hope that they know better than I do how long it will take to get there. I only know of one way to get there, but maybe they know another, using more back roads.
I like reading a few books at the same time. One of the books is a collection of essays, and the other two are novels, but very different, so I can enjoy them all.
I did take one of the books with me this morning in case I had to wait a while for the ride, but she came for me fairly quickly so I was home before 11 with my pretty toes. The woman beside me who was also getting a pedicure, liked my colour so much that she decided to get the same one. She was also a retired nurse, so we exchanged some 'war stories' - that was fun!
I watched one episode of Bad Blood out of curiosity, and will continue with it when I finish with Queen of the South. I'm in season 3 now.

Kate - Neither of my husbands was a romantic either. In both cases, we had been living together, and just sort of decided to get married. There was no 'popping the question'.
My housekeeper is truly wonderful, and I'm very grateful for her! She may be getting divorced and getting another job, and I was worried about losing her, but she assured me she'd keep her cleaning clients - just the day and time might change as she consolidates things to be more efficient. That's fine with me, as long as she'll keep coming!
Will it be a very big hotel that you'll be in with your DGS?
I'm sorry your DD locked herself out of her car. She's very fortunate to have you to rely on for help. After I did that once, I started carrying my spare key in my purse or fanny pack, so I was always OK.
I would also not do well in Florida - it's the humidity that gets to me. I do love the heat. I just have my fan on today and feel perfectly comfortable.

I will have a busy day tomorrow - I have lots of entries in my calendar! I hope I'll be able to post here, but I won't be able to on Saturday because of the wedding.

I hope you're both having good days, and coping with the heat.

Mema – how nice that the septic company came and fixed the problem. Maybe they got lost on the way? I don’t think I mentioned that when our new fridge was delivered last month they said they were on their way and then didn’t show up for the longest time. We’re only two miles from the shop so I was wondering what happened. The driver called to say that he couldn’t locate the house. Turned out they had programmed the GPS at the right address in the wrong town.

My meeting yesterday had 12 people, too. When it’s not summer time, we usually have 18-20.

I love the 3 meetings I go to b/c I can walk to them. If Monday closes, I may switch to a Tuesday meeting although I’d rather have them spread through the week than Tuesday and Wednesday. I’ll have to go on-line and see what others are available in the area.

My DH is a great guy and a wonderful husband but doesn’t have a romantic bone in his body. He just simply asked me if I’d marry him while we were sitting in a dorm room. Ah, well.

Leslie – enjoy your pedicure even though you might have to wait for the bus. At least we all know how you’ll spend your waiting time – w/a good book.

Your housekeeper sounds like a lovely woman. She is so willing to do what you need done.

The trip w/ DGS will be Sunday afternoon until Friday morning. There is breakfast and a walking tour in the morning then we’re free to check out of the hotel and get some lunch before heading home.

Yesterday, DD was hosting a work event at a water park just north of us. She called mid-morning to say she had just gotten out of her car and locked the keys inside. DH drove up to bring her the spare key that we keep. I was going out to lunch w/ my friend so I had to walk. What a hot miserable day. I would not do well in a place like Florida. Today won’t be as hot since we have the tattered remnants of hurricane Barry coming through but then we’re headed into a heat wave. They’re saying we may hit a new record high temperature on Saturday. I’m glad we can mostly stay inside.

We got a call from the septic company at 8:00 am (right when they open). The gal talked to my DH, apologized for not getting to us on Tuesday and said someone was on their way. Well, 2 1/2 hours later they arrived! It should have only taken 30 minutes! But, at least he came. He pumped out our septic, the lift station and flushed everything. He did see that there was blockage at the point the pipe that runs from the house INTO the septic and he was able to clear that. So, for now everything is working the way it should! emoticon
DH is not going to worry about the other issue right now unless it becomes a problem.

Went to my meeting, there were 12 of us there and it almost seemed empty considering all the people we have been having. Got my errands done while I was in town and came home and DH had made ham and bean soup last night with our Instant Pot and so we had that for supper! Nice!

Tomorrow I will clean and try and get some laundry done. I think I will be going to Rice Lake on Friday for shopping.

We're supposed to be getting rain tonight, but it hasn't started yet. We've got 2 more days of 87 degree weather and then on Sat. the high is only 79!! Can't wait for that.

Leslie - thank you for the compliment on my dress. What a coincidence that my niece's husband looks a bit like your last husband. His name is Sal de la Rosa!
I do hope you won't be late for your sister's wedding. Is there a way to find out the route they are taking and then check on MapQuest or Google Maps just to be sure? That would be terrible if you arrived late. I'm guessing it might not be a very large crowd?
I've never been one who could read multiple books at a time. I have to read one and then start the next one when I'm finished. My DH reads a lot of psychology-type books and many times he just starts in the middle and then jumps around. Even if I do read that type I have to start at the beginning.
I'm just about at the end of Season 2 of Bad Blood. I don't think there is another season so I hope it either ends good or that there will be another season. Although this is based in part on a true story, so it may be the end. It has been VERY good!
I'm so glad your housekeeper is such a good help to you. When I was cleaning houses, I had 2 women that I cleaned for that I would help out a lot of times in ways that didn't always involve cleaning. They were very appreciative.
I do hope you won't have to wait too long for your ride home after your pedicure - but I'm sure you'll have a book with you to pass the time if you do have to wait!

Kate - I hope you won't have to close your meeting, but it's not practical to keep it open if no one is coming. Is there another option for you on Mondays?
I was telling DH this afternoon that it's wonderful that he knows how to do pretty much anything, but there comes a time when it's more practical to call someone, over trying to do it himself. He did agree, but I know he doesn't like that. I said, "Well, I'll just let your body beat up on your body!" We laughed, but he gets it. He knows he has to be careful because of his shoulder and back - having those 2 surgeries so recently. And I will say, for the most part he is very careful, but he still does way more than he should.
Your DS does sound like a romantic!! How nice that will be for his fiance. I think most women would like a romantic proposal. I never got that with either husband! LOL

Have a Thankful Thursday!!

Mema - great photos! You really looked lovely and it was good to see everyone. Your niece's dress was pretty. My nieces all had strapless gowns, which I didn't think were very flattering. Very funny about her DH's 'gangster' look! He actually looks a bit like my last husband, who was not Hispanic, but had relatively long dark hair, and wore sunglasses most of the time because of his epilepsy.
I think all the food sounded wonderful! I love tacos, and would certainly have enjoyed the ribs, shrimp, etc.! The brunch sounded amazing too!
I am a little worried that we'll be late to the wedding on Saturday. I would have thought it was a 3 1/2 hour drive from here, and therefore about 3 hours from where I'm meeting the friends. We're meeting at 7:45 and the wedding is at 10:30!
I'm sorry the septic guy didn't come yesterday. I hope he'll be there today, and I hope it won't involve the extensive work your DH thinks it might.
I did do a bit of reading yesterday afternoon - I have 3 books on the go again, and the library just sent an email this morning that another book I had requested is available now. When my volunteer returns from their family trip to Nova Scotia, I'll ask her to pick it up for me.

Kate - I'm glad that picking up your DGS for your trip on Sunday afternoon, will really be 'on the way'! It's good that you won't have to drive very far. What sort of sleeping accommodations will you have? Will you be gone for a week? I've forgotten when you said you'd be back.
It wasn't quite as hot and humid yesterday as had been predicted, so I don't think Lou suffered too much. Today seems about the same - it was warm in the exercise class. Friday it's supposed to be really hot and humid. I haven't heard yet what the weather will be like on Saturday for the wedding. If it's hot, I hope the church has a/c!
That is a great story about you having to hide your car and your DGS when your DS and GF came! I hope she'll like the ring he chooses. How does he know the size? I think most teens have a talent for fooling parents!
That will be a very romantic way to propose to his GF! I hope she'll be surprised, and of course hope she says 'yes'!
My housekeeper is such a wonderful help! Instead of having her mop the floors yesterday, I asked her to go to the ATM for me and get out more cash to be sure I'll have enough for the cabs on Saturday. She also brought me the ice cream bar I had requested - it was a delicious treat! She also cleaned off the outside of the George Foreman grill and then took it out to the bench for me. It was gone by this morning - that didn't surprise me!
I'm very sorry that meeting might have to close by September. Is there another one you could attend?

Tomorrow morning I'll have my pedicure at 8:30 which is great, but the bus may not be able to pick me up afterward until noon. She said to call when I'm done and maybe I could be picked up earlier. I kind of doubt it though, because the bus almost always does trips downtown or to the east side, and I'll be on the west side now that the spa has moved from downtown. So, if I don't post tomorrow, you'll know I got back late.

I hope you're both having good days!

Leslie – hope you had a lovely day w/ your housekeeper there. It’s nice that you’re friendly with her.

Mema – enjoy your meeting. My Monday morning meeting had only 2 again. I think it’s going to have to close up by September unless a few regulars start coming again.

Hope the septic guy shows up today and can easily locate and fix the problem. I’m like your DH. I hate paying for someone to do something that I could/should do myself. My DH is much more practical. He’ll ask me, “But will you actually do it?” And then suggest paying someone.

My DS is so romantic. He’s planning a proposal and keeping it a surprise by calling the outing an early birthday surprise. There is a song that both he and his GF agreed is “their song”. He’s booked tickets to an afternoon concert by that artist on the last Sunday of the month. He’s going to hire a limo to take them to the concert and he’ll propose at some point in the afternoon. After the concert, he’s arranged to meet up in the evening w/ us and her parents to celebrate as a family.

Well, I'm terribly disappointed - the septic guy never showed up and DH never bothered to call before they closed!! So another day we wait. When it was getting to be the afternoon I asked him if he knew if they were coming and he said they told him they were, but up here you can't always count on that. I told him to call them, but he never did!! Oh, I should say he did call AFTER they were closed and left a message! They better come tomorrow. I don't know why he's taking this so casually. That's not usually like him. But he told me yesterday that he thinks there is a broken seal on one of the pipes that's close to coming into the house. And that means that he will have to cut a hole in the mud room floor to expose the decking, then cut those deck boards to get to the ground, then shovel out the dirt so he can fix the pipe - and he's not looking forward to having to do that. Although, he told me that right now, if the pipes and drains all get cleared, that wouldn't cause a back-up again. I know he's had a lot going on and can tend to feel overwhelmed, but most of that is brought on by himself, because he doesn't like to pay someone to do something that he knows he can do. The only problem is that things are starting to pile up that need tending to and he can't work fast enough any longer. And his DS is not a lot of help. As a matter of fact, my DS will offer to help much more than his DS.

Tomorrow is my meeting and I'll stop at the local shops while I'm there. I do have to go to Rice Lake or Superior one of these days for more groceries other than just odds and ends from the local spots in town.

Kate - I guess my sister and niece did not want chicken as it can get dry, but I do agree with you about the different choices they had. I didn't have any of the ribs, but those at my table said they were very good.
With your DS being the youngest, usually they tend to have more expectations of other people (like doing favors and things for them), but it seems like he's the opposite of that. Sometimes birth order personalities switch. The oldest child is like the 3rd adult in the house because they only have adults to mimic. When the next child comes along, they have that older brother or sister to mimic so they are more child-like. But those are just patterns that are generalized.
That is funny about you having to hide your DGS and car from the girlfriend! When does your DS plan on proposing? How exciting!!

Leslie - I hope it wasn't too humid for your housekeeper today. And I hope you had a good visit with her.
Hope you were able to read as well.

Happy Wednesday!

Mema – nice photos. I can really see how nicely the “gather” shapes your dress. LOL about the “gangster” look.

The menus for the meals sound unusual but very nice choices. Much better than the usual steak or chicken options.

My DD is 22 months older than my DS. She tended to try to ‘mother’ him when they were younger.

Leslie – I had my fan on last night b/c it got down into the low 60’s. I agree that 40’s is too cold for a blowing fan.

It’s about 55 miles (about 75 minutes) from home to Plymouth. And where DD and DGS live in Boston is almost directly on the route. We’ll take a few mile detour to pick him up on Sunday afternoon.

Have a nice visit w/ your housekeeper today. Too bad she has to work even on hot humid days.

Funny story. My DS called me yesterday afternoon to say that he was driving down to Boston to put a down payment on an engagement ring. He was then going to pick up his GF from work down there. He didn't want her to know why he was down there so he thought up a ruse. He told her that our car was in the shop and he got drafted to pick up DGS from camp and drive him to DD's house in East Boston. I had to laugh b/c DGS was actually spending the night here. So we had to hide the car and the boy when DS and GF came to pick up the dogs. I think it's a good sign that he's so awkward about thinking up ways to fool his GF. He was much better at fooling me when he was a teen.

It was hot and sticky today! And we had some rain, but it didn't seem to cool things off too much.

So, here are a few quick pictures - like I said, I didn't take a lot because I will probably order some later.

This is me and my sister - after the wedding - she was in the receiving line.

DH and me - he wasn't looking at the camera for some reason! And he was sitting in front of a window, so there was a bit of a reflection.

My niece and my sister

This is her now husband - he's Hispanic and has really long hair (which is usually very curly and he keeps it in a pony tail), but for the wedding he had it straightened and my sister was saying that when he does that and puts on sun glasses and a suit he looks like a gangster! So we had to take the picture! He has a serious look on his face, but he was laughing afterwards!

This was a memory table "in memory of the grandparents who have passed away". The ring bearer's pillow on the table was my mom's!

This last picture was taken at the reception, so it was a bit dark and I didn't put my flash on, but it is of my son on the right, Tara - my niece on the left and then my cousin and her husband. DS and niece were the ring bearer and flower girl at my cousin's wedding back in 1991!

Friday night, the groom's dinner was a taco bar! It was delicious!! The food for the wedding was bbq ribs, fried shrimp, smashed red potatoes, green beans and carrots, salad and rolls. Then on Sunday for the brunch there was yogurt with all kinds of toppings to make a "sundae", petite cinnamon rolls, scrambled eggs, roasted, chopped potatoes, bacon, sausage and French toast! That was yummy! We left about 12:45 and got home at 6:00 pm. So, it sounds like Gift Openings must be a mid-west thing. Not everyone is invited, usually the bridal party and family.

I really didn't do too much since it was so hot today! Had a nice relaxing day.

Leslie - Temps in the 40's at night sounds WONDERFUL right now! DH did turn on our a/c, but it has a hard time getting up to my room. For some reason it just doesn't blow hard enough. DH has shut off other vents in other rooms to force more air so that helps a bit. It does get cool, just not as cool as the downstairs.
That movie you watched sounds like something I would watch. I like drama's best, but then throw in a comedy once in awhile.
I'm glad things are getting into place for you to get to the wedding. The timing does sound like it will be close, but hopefully it will all work out.
Glad your DS and his wife will have a little time to themselves!

Kate - Kids' personalities are interesting - who is older - your DD or DS?
Last night I went to bed at 9:00 (very early for me), I did wake up about 1:30, but went back to sleep and didn't wake up until 6:00 am. So it was a good sleep. But I feel drained today because of how hot and humid it was. DH didn't turn the a/c on until late this afternoon!
Oh, your trip sounds wonderful! Is DGS getting excited for it? I hope you have great weather!

Well, DH wants to watch a DVD movie we got a couple of weeks ago - Vice. About past Vice President Cheney.

Oh, and the septic guy is coming tomorrow! Hallelujah!!! I sure hope he finds the problem.

Enjoy your day!

Mema - welcome back! I'm glad it all went well, but sorry the trip was longer than you thought it would be.
I'll enjoy seeing the photos!

Kate - I don't have a/c, so I sometimes have my fan on and sometimes not. It got down into the 40s last night, so my fan was off!
How exciting that you'll be off with your DGS next week! I'm sure you're all looking forward to that. How long is the drive to where you'll be staying?

Today is a pretty quiet day for me. I went to the exercise class this morning, and have been trying to catch up with online messages. I've added a lot more books to my TBR list - I'd need about 3 lifetimes to read everything I'd like!
It's not terribly hot today, but tomorrow is supposed to be in the 90s and humid. I could do without the humidity. My poor housekeeper will be here to work tomorrow. Don't worry if I don't post then.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – I keep track of the hourly forecasts and if the temps are going to drop into the 60’s I’ll open the windows and start the fan. If it stays in the 70’s, I keep the a/c on all night.

Nice that your DS and his wife can have some R&R while their boys are at camp.

I heard about that movie Ben is Back. I think I might have watched trailers for it or maybe the first part of the movie. Not my kind of thing. I like comedies and happy endings.

Mema – welcome back. Glad the wedding went well. Hope you got a good night’s sleep after your long day.

This is a normal summer week w/ DGS and the dogs. Next week we'll be off on our 'grandparents' adventure w/ DGS and the dogs will be in doggy daycare.

Hello! We're back! But I am exhausted, so I'm just going to keep this post brief and will write more tomorrow. Everything went very well, but it did seem like not as many of their (the bride and groom) friends attended. Danced almost all night long!

I've got a couple of pictures I can post tomorrow as well. I didn't take a lot as I know I will be able to order some from the photographer if I want a few.

Anyway, I think I'm about ready for bed! It was a 5 hour drive for us - I didn't think it would take that long, but it just did. We only stopped once going there and coming home.

Have a great day!

Kate - I'm sorry about the hot muggy nights you've had. It's been going down to about 60 here, and I sleep with my little fan blowing on me. I haven't had to use my daytime fan much. It's just comfortable for me. By Tuesday it will be about 90 according to the forecast, so I'll be using my fan that day I'm sure.

I watched a movie last night called Ben is Back, about a young male addict who comes home from rehab for Christmas. He OD-d and his mother, Julia Roberts, tried to resuscitate him - it wasn't very clear at the end of the film if she was successful. It was a good movie, but sad and tense.

I had a very nice long conversation with my DS yesterday. Today they will drop both boys off at camp, then carry on to Quebec City for a few days of R&R. He was really looking forward to that! He was very glad I'm able to go to the wedding. I'm sorry he and his DW will not be able to get to the wedding too.

I'm having a nice quiet day today. I finished one book yesterday, but still have 2 others I'm working on, so I'll be reading soon.

Mema - I hope the brunch was good. I've never attended gift openings either!
Wishing you a safe trip home this afternoon.

I hope both of your days are going well.

Leslie – I’m so glad the plans are coming together for you to be at the wedding. Your sister’s fiancé sounds like a really nice guy.

We’re continuing to be hot here but the nights are supposed to cool off tonight and tomorrow night. I’ll get to turn off the a/c and open all the windows to air the house out those nights. I hate the hot, sticky nights we’ve been having.

Mema - have a safe drive home this afternoon. Hope the wedding was a lot of fun.

I've heard a lot of people talk about the morning after gift openings. Must be a mid-west kind of thing. We don't have any tradition like that around here.

Kate - it's wonderful that your DS is so appreciative of your help! I'm sorry your DD seems to take you a little more for granted.
My sister's fiancé called me again this morning and gave me the time and location to meet the friends who will be giving me the ride to the wedding! It was wonderful to hear from him again. It seems to be easier to talk to him than to my sister. Almost right after that, I got an email from the woman who will be giving me a ride, so now I have her email address and phone number. We had a bit of confusion, and I had to point out that I had said I do Not do texts. Unless either of us has a big problem, I don't anticipate us having to communicate again. They will pick me up at 7:45, and the wedding is at 10:30. I think that's cutting it very close, but it's not up to me. Now I have to arrange for a taxi to get me there, and another one to bring me home.
It seems pretty cool again here today, and that's OK with me, as long as it isn't cold!

Mema - I hope everything goes well at the wedding today!

Have a great day!

Leslie - one of the nice things about DS is that he’s always very appreciative and thanks me regularly for keeping the dogs. When he asks for anything he always starts out by saying he’s OK if we have to say no b/c we already do a lot for him. I really notice it b/c DD will be nice the first time she asks me to do a favor but if I say yes, she will just assume I will continue to do things w/o her even asking. Very different personalities on those 2 kids.

I’m so glad things are working out for you to be able to get to your sister’s wedding.

Mema – hope you’re having a good time at the wedding today.

I have a Bible study this morning and then a meeting. We'll run some errands this afternoon I think. It's still hot out but the humidity is suppose to be lower.

Mema - I guess you're on the road now - I hope you have a good and safe trip!
You will be attending a lot of events over the next couple of days. I hope everything goes smoothly. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.
Thanks for the info re: air conditioners, but I really have no desire for one in my apartment. I often have to turn my fan off because it's getting too cool for me, and I only run it on the lowest speed. I love heat, but I do appreciate the air conditioners where we exercise.

I just had a very nice surprise - my sister sent me an e-transfer of money, about half the costs of the 2 taxis I'll be taking that day! When I asked before if she would be willing to split the cost with me, she claimed poverty and made it very clear she would NOT help me, so this really astonished me! I have sent a brief thank you.
I don't have Bob's cell number. If I haven't heard from those people by Tuesday, I will ask Marion for their email address.

Kate - It's very cloudy here today and seems a lot cooler than it was yesterday. I don't think we've had any rain though.
I'm glad you were able to say no to your DS about watching the dogs for the weekend. They already get a lot of help from you!

I've got my portion of the paperwork for the bus pass filled out, so now I have to wait until the OT comes next Friday.

I hope your days are going well.

Leslie – nice of Bob to call you up about the ride. Hope you can get the friends’ contact information so you can arrange things directly w/ them.

Nice that your hair cut and pedicure timing is working out well, too.

I can’t imagine exercising w/o air conditioning on the really hot days. It’s hard enough to just move around.

Mema – have a safe trip and a lovely time at the wedding.

The storms came through last night and it’s raining today. But it didn’t really cool things off. It will still be 90 tomorrow. At least it will be a bit less humid. My DS and his GF are going away for a romantic weekend and asked us to watch the dogs. I decided I needed a break and said no.

Well, I did as much as I could today - most of my stuff has to wait until tomorrow morning. Putting the pop and things in the cooler, packing my make-up, curling iron, blow dryer, that kind of stuff, so I'll get up early and get everything ready.

We'll probably leave around 9:30 am tomorrow. Technically, check-in time is 3:00 pm, but I know sometimes they let us in earlier if the room is ready. The groom's dinner is at 6:30 tomorrow night and the wedding itself is at 3:00 pm on Saturday. Then the brunch on Sunday at 11:00 with the gift opening afterwards I'm assuming. Then we'll try and get out of there as quickly as possible since we have our long ride home.

This will be my last post until Sunday - then I can let you know how everything went. I'm looking forward to it. I hope everything goes well!

Leslie - I hope once our septic tank is cleared it will be done for a LONG time, too! LOL As I'm sure my DH is, too!
I'm glad your sister's fiance called you to let you know you could still get your ride. Are you able to call Bob directly to get the email address?
I'm glad your exercise room is nicely air conditioned! Have you ever checked Amazon for portable air conditioners? There are quite a few and less than $50! And some with a lot of good reviews, too. They are quite small, so I'm guessing not too heavy for you.
Here is the name of one I found that has 586 reviews, 4 stars and is $39.99:

Dr.fasting Air Cooler, Mini Portable Air Conditioner Fan Noiseless Evaporative Air Humidifier, Personal Space Air Conditioner, Mini Cooler,3 Gear Speed, Office Cooler Humidifier & Purifier
If you copy and paste this description into your Amazon site, you should be able to see it. I tried to copy and paste the web address, but it wouldn't do it for some reason. I have trouble with that on this website. I can do it in an email and it works fine.

Kate - I've noticed the same thing in the 2 different spellings - the use of "ou" vs. "o".
There are regulations that have to be followed for septic tanks, so I'm wondering if your DS's needed to be replaced because of new regulations that have gone into effect since it was first put in. You don't have to change anything if you are the original owner, but once the home is going to be for sale, it would then have to be upgraded. I suppose similar to wiring, plumbing, etc. When we put in a new well several years ago, our pump was in the house, but that law had changed, so the new pump needed to be outside, which meant DH had to build a "shelter" for it so it was not out in all the weather elements. Even though we weren't selling, we had to follow the new laws since it was a whole new well.
Glad to hear that the boy and his parents were spoken to. I hope it is over, too. I'm sure your DGS is eager for it to be over as well. So hurtful to him.

Enjoy your Friday!

Mema - That was a big meeting! Good definitions of acceptance and serenity. I remember the Grapevine magazines from meetings.
I won't be ordering groceries again until next week, but I have had cherries on the list since you mentioned them before! I'm really looking forward to those.
I'm sorry you need more help with the septic situation, but once it's fixed, I hope it will stay good for a long time.
Some of the spellings I use are British, which is actually the 'correct' way of spelling things in Canada, but I think a lot of Canadians are like me and use some British and some American spellings. I never write realise for example, always realize.
My phone rang yesterday and I just had a feeling it was Bob, my sister's fiance, and I was right. I guess my sister is just tired of me. Bob was very nice and said he was sure I could still get the ride to the wedding with their friends. He tried again to get me to agree to stay down there, but I said it was just out of the question, so he didn't put more pressure on me than that which I appreciated.
You sound well prepared for food to have in your room this weekend. The brunch on Sunday sounds good. What time is the wedding on Saturday?

Kate - I'm not sure if I've mentioned that our community room now has 2 of the portable air conditioners, so it's much more comfortable to have our exercise classes there, and it's great for those of us without air conditioners to be able to just go downstairs to cool off if the heat gets extreme!
I hope that boy has learned his lesson and will no longer be cruel to your DGS. I hope it is over, as I'm sure your DGS does, and you and your DD and her partner too!
I forgot to ask Bob when I talked to him yesterday if I could get the email address for the people I will be riding with. I would like us to agree on where we'll meet, and at what time.
My hairdresser just left a short while ago, so I've had my hair cut. It was due for a cut anyway, but the timing is good for going to the wedding too. I'll be having my pedicure next week. It was also time for that anyway.

It was in the mid-70s when I got up this morning, but the temp is staying steady. There may be storms today.

I hope you're both having good days!

Leslie – it is funny how our American English and British/Canadian English have drifted so far apart in spelling. I notice it most in all the words where British spelling uses ou where we use just o, like honour/honor or humour/humor.

Nice that you could get to exercise class even on the warm day.

And the fajitas sound tasty.

Hope your sister gets over her snit and communicates w/ you.

Mema – I do love that Acceptance and Serenity example. It’s so true.

Nice that you know in advance to bring your own breakfast and snacks. Fruit and boiled eggs is probably a lot healthier than what you’d get if the did have a breakfast included.
I’ve also been enjoying the cherries. They’ve been very good this year.

Hope the clog in the septic tank can be located and removed quickly. I’ve never had a septic tank but my DS has one at his new house. The sellers had to install a brand new one as a condition of the sale.

I've told my DD to wait and see how things go now that the boy and his parents have been spoken to and the counselors are all aware of the problem. I hope this is the end of it. I know that my DGS just wants it all to be over.

We had a great meeting today - there were 19 people and the topic was acceptance, peace and serenity. One guy said he read this in the Grapevine magazine (it's the AA magazine published monthly). "When you are standing in the check-out line for 10 items or less and you count the items in the cart in front of you and they have more than 10, but you're OK with it, that's acceptance; when you are standing in that same line and don't bother counting the items, THAT'S SERENITY!" I thought that was such a great explanation!

I had a few errands to run as well - my usual. I bought more cherries - ate the last bag last week. They were so good and I didn't have a bad one in the whole bag - about 2 lbs. or so. I will take some with me this week-end.

DH thinks there is a clog either in the pipe that goes right into the septic tank or going out of the septic into the lift station. We have an "extra" tank before the drain field. He thinks that because when he used the power root cutter last night, he really didn't get much out of it. So, he's going to have to call the people who cleaned our septic tank out 2 years ago to come and take a look. Sigh! They will have to take the cement cap off (which weighs about 120 lbs.!) of the septic tank outside and look inside! (whew - wouldn't want that job! LOL)

Leslie - I've noticed different spellings on some words you write. I'm wondering why the difference???? Do you know?
Did you hear back from your sister?
I've got snacks and I'll bring my fruit, boiled eggs and pop and water with us this weekend. We really only would need breakfast on Sat. morning. Sunday we'll be having a brunch - that won't be until about 11:00 or 12:00, so we can have a quick snack of fruit or something to tide us over.
I thought I remembered you said you saw 2 seasons of Good Girls - I'll go back and double check, but they were only listing 1 season when I was currently watching. I started Bad Blood - about the Montreal Mafia - it's pretty good already and I've only watched 2 episodes.
That is a long trip to your sister's wedding - DH and I will have a 4 1/2 to 5 hour drive to my niece's wedding.
That's too bad about your bus pass expiring earlier than you expected, but hopefully you'll get the approval quickly.
Your fajitas sound delish!!

Kate - That is just awful what happened to your DGS! And you are absolutely correct that EVERYTHING needs to be written down exactly as it was said. Your DGS needs to know that type of behavior will not be tolerated and the boy who said those things also needs to know that his behavior is not acceptable!
I'm sure it does break your heart - it breaks my heart, too!! I hope you get it resolved. Really needs to be corrected.
I think you're right about hotel restaurants being expensive. I'm glad I called ahead so at least I can bring some things myself. DH was very surprised, too!

Have a great day!

Mema - your dress really looks pretty. You are very handy, making that alteration and your jewelry too! (The Canadian/British spelling is jewellery, but I don't like it - I pick and choose how to spell things I guess.)
I'm sorry your DH has to do so much work clearing the roots from that pipe.
When I stayed at a Hyatt hotel last year with my son, there was also no continental breakfast, and the room was $200/night. There was also no fridge... I'm sure the hotel restaurant would be expensive.
I did see 2 seasons of Good Girls! I'm sorry you didn't get both.

I'm still waiting to hear from my sister. I sent an email yesterday morning and a PM on Facebook this morning, but have had no response. I'm not sure if she's being passive-aggressive and deliberately making me wait since I'm not going along with what she had planned. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive each way. Obviously, our relationship is not the best. We're rarely 'on the same wavelength'.

Kate - that is absolutely awful about your DGS being subjected to racial slurs! I agree with you that the whole thing needs to be documented, verbatim. I certainly hope the nastiness won't be repeated, but if it is, I agree that the offender needs to be expelled. That is inexcusable.
I'm sorry your kids also had some hard times. Kids can really be cruel.
I had thought my buss pass expired in August but the date is July 26! I hope I won't be needing the bus until I have the new pass. I will be having my pedicure next week, but the pass will still be OK then. I don't think it takes long to get the approval.

I went to the exercise class today; it's a pretty warm day. And I've finally had the fajitas - delicious, and I have leftovers!

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – I remember seeing a FB video from Lululemon showing how to “gather” their tops and dresses and they were doing it w/ rubber bands. Very clever. And it really looks nice to have more shape to the dress.

Good idea to bring something along for breakfast at the hotel. Most of the restaurants inside hotels are very expensive.

Hope your DH is able to get all those roots out of the pipes. When we bought this house there were some nasty weedy trees in the front yard that put roots into the pipes out to the sewer and we had to have them cleared. Since we removed those trees there hasn’t been an issue. It took us several years of pulling up volunteer trees the grew up out of the remaining roots until we were entirely clear of those trees.

Leslie – sounds like you’re busy w/ all the transportation issues. Hope you're able to arrange a ride for the wedding and get your forms done for the bus. My DD has special toll passes and parking stickers that need to be renewed on an annual basis and she’s always scrambling to get them done at the last minute. Of course the state offices are always too busy to answer the phone and their hours are inconvenient for people w/ full time jobs.

I couldn’t sleep last night. My mind was spinning. We're dealing w/ a situation here. Some kid at camp made some really nasty racial remarks to my DGS. It's been reported and they're aware of it but the asst. director who wrote it up really 'sanitized' the incident just saying that "hurtful things were said". That's not at all the point. The report is a legal document and needs to be accurate and thorough. The words said need to be reported verbatim. And there was a second incident witnessed by the counselors and labeled as “mean things”. The counselor needs to be named and again the exact words need to be reported. This is the kind of thing that could well result in the child being expelled from the program if it’s repeated and the documentation needs to be clear.

Meanwhile - it just breaks my heart to see my wonderful boy going through this kind of nastiness. There were hard things said to my Korean kids, it's even worse for my half black grandson.

I was busy today getting things ready for this weekend - deciding what I'm going to wear for the groom's dinner, gift opening, etc. I also made myself a necklace for one of the tops that I'm wearing for the groom's dinner. I've made jewelry before (nothing fancy) just earrings, bracelets and necklaces and I just needed something for this one top. Turned out nice. Then I was trying on my new dress for the wedding and even though it fits me nicely, I decided to try and "gather" it in the middle to give it a bit more definition. Well, here's the result! I think it turned out great!

I gathered it first with a rubber band and when I found the right spot and it looked good, then I just sewed it together at that spot. It definitely made a huge difference. It just isn't quite as boxy as it was. Gives my figure a bit more definition!

Then DH had to go into town and rent a root cutter for the pipe that goes to our septic tank. It got plugged again, so he figures there were more roots down there that he couldn't get at the first time. They may be farther in, so this machine has like a 50' range! Hopefully that will take care of it for good!

Tomorrow is my meeting and I will need to pick up a few things at the stores while I'm there. I just called the Marriott Hotel that we are staying at for the wedding this weekend and they do NOT have a continental breakfast! I'm a bit surprised at that. Especially for the price of the rooms - ours are $119/night and that was discounted!! I think I will boil some eggs and bring those along for us. We have a mini frig in our room. And maybe I'll pick up some muffins or something else. She did say they have "The Bistro" in their lobby, but I'm guessing that it will be a bit on the pricey side.

Leslie - I hope you can still get your ride to the wedding and taking a cab back is a lot cheaper than what you were looking at. How long of a ride is it?
Nice that a woman will come out to help you with the forms for your bus pass.
I finished Good Girls - I do hope they have another season. I thought there were 2 seasons for some reason, but only 1. I really enjoyed it!

Kate - Isn't that a great feeling to fit into your "old" clothes again? How fun!
Both of your options for your brush sound equally challenging! LOL Good luck with what you decide to do!
Your garden sounds like it's all growing good. Your rhubarb does sound like it's huge!! My sister has some huge stalks at her house as well. She was showing me them when I was there for the shower.

It's raining a nice rain here right now - but we don't really need anymore rain at this time. Although it is helping to take some of the mugginess out of the air.

Have a great day!!

I have sent an email to my sister to see if that ride to the wedding is still available, but haven't heard from her yet. If I just take a cab back from there, it will be $287 + tip. I can't confirm the cab until I know how I'll get down there. Some people were still calling me back this morning. I also realized I have to renew my bus pass to ride on the mobility bus! I've called the OT who helped me with the forms the last time and she called back too, and will come Friday of next week.
It's always something.

Mema - I'm glad you had a good stretch of time to yourself. I'm glad you've got the mower, and your DH will be able to put it together.
It sounds as if you were getting a lot of enjoyment out of the line dancing.. I remember that song!
Your dress sounds lovely! I'm glad it fits.

Kate - How wonderful that the clothes which were too small fit you now! It's like having a whole new wardrobe! Great that you still like them too.
I'm sorry you have a dilemma about what to do with the branches. I hope you can decide which way to go soon.
Those rhubarb stalks sound huge! Good luck cutting out the pea vines without hurting the cucumber.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – oh my, that’s a lot of money. Could you catch the ride w/ your sister’s friends on the way there and just pay for the way home? It would still be a lot but not as much.

The bird show sounds fantastic. Glad you could see so many different types up close.

Mema – the dress sounds lovely. Nice that you could get it on line. I do hate going clothes shopping. I’ve lost enough weight this year that I am “shopping” in the duffle bags of “too small” clothes that I stored away 4 or 5 years ago. I only saved the things I really liked so it’s nice to go through them and see that most of them fit again and I still like them.

We used to be able to get a burn permit and dispose of the branches that way but they banned burning b/c of the damage to air quality and the danger of fire.

Our town has a big composting center where they process the yard waste and turn it into compost. I need to go and buy a community sticker to use it. I’ve done it in the past – both dropped things off and picked up compost. The town picks up yard waste a couple of times in the spring and 4 or 5 times in the fall. I’m wondering which is easier – taking out the car seat, folding down the backseats in my SUV, lining it w/ a drop cloth and packing in the branches? Or buying a bunch of big paper yard waste bags, cutting the branches up, packing them in bags and hauling them into the side of the garage to wait for fall?

DGS goes to YMCA camp from 9 to 4 so he’s just here for an hour or so in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. It’s much better for us all if he’s busy and active during the day instead of getting bored sitting around here.

I have picked all of my snap peas and need to cut out the pea vines. They are firmly emeshed w/ the fence and the cucumber vine has attached itself to the fence and to the pea plants so I'll have to be careful. I can't just pull up the pea plants. I did my last harvesting of the rhubarb plant. I let it spend the rest of the summer growing and nourishing itself. I've got enough rhubarb stored in the freezer for smoothies for the next year. All the rain really made it grow. Some of the stalks were 2 feet long and an inch and a half across.

DH left about 12:30 this afternoon and didn't get back until about 8:00, so it was a nice long day for me. He got hung up at Walmart - they were trying to find the lawn mower and it took them awhile. I don't think they knew how big the box was supposed to be. It's in a large crate, but DH will still have to put most of it together himself. WM would do it, but it would cost $100 or so and he knows how to do stuff like that. And it's not like we need it right away, so he can take his time.

I did laundry and got all of my ironing done today. Plus I was practicing the line dance to "Boot Scootin' Boogie" by Brooks and Dunn. On our reply card for the wedding, there was a place that asked what song we would like played at the reception and I picked that one! So I needed to practice up! LOL It was a bit different than when I learned it years ago, but it was easy enough to catch on and learn.

I ordered a dress from Amazon and it came today! It fits, too! I wasn't sure how that would be. I think I will wear that one to the wedding. It's a royal blue chiffon - comes to my knees and the sleeves are 3/4 and they are split down but not fitted at the bottom. It's actually quite flattering. I have pearls and gold and crystal earrings and watch to wear with it. The other white dress w/lavender flowers and the shrug is pretty, but I just felt like it wasn't quite dressy enough for my niece's wedding.

Leslie - Holy cow! - that's a lot of money to go to a wedding! You do have a decision to make. I think you just have to be OK with whatever decision you make.
The event at the library sounds like it was great! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It would be very interesting to see those birds up close like that.

Kate - My DGD Ireland has 2 American Girl dolls. She loves those, too. My niece got one from my mom years ago. I played with Barbie's when I was a child, so this is rather fun for me again!
I hope you are able to get rid of your huge brush pile. We have a HUGE pile of pine tree branches that DH trimmed from a bunch of trees that we need to burn. We burned some this past weekend, but we've got a ton more to burn.
Hope you were able to get to your meeting. Did DGS stay with your DH while you were at your meeting today?
Do you usually plan out all of your meals?

Enjoy your Tuesday!

I am all tangled up in phone calls. I've left several messages and have had a couple of calls back. It is looking like it's going to cost over $400 for the round trip ride, and one company is insisting on $550 + tip, so that would be over $600. I really don't want to totally wipe out my savings. It will be a hard choice to make, and maybe my sister was right when she said "I guess you just can't come to the wedding."
The event at the library was wonderful! There were 3 people, a guy and 2 young women, talking about the birds and 'showing' one at a time. I was in the front row so had a great close-up view of them. I got pictures of the first 2, but then the camera in my phone was pointing at me instead of 'out', and I couldn't remember how to get it back the other way, so I got a little frustrated with myself. I was going to try turning the phone off and on again, but by then the battery was dead...
The birds they brought, and walked through the audience, were 2 falcons: an American Kestrel, and a Gyrfalcon (very big!); one hawk, a broad winged one they described as a 'lazy hawk'; and 2 owls, a Great Grey and a Long-Eared Owl. They were all fabulous birds. I liked the owls best!

Mema - I'm glad you can get more Barbie clothes at a reasonable price. Barbies came along too late for me, but I liked the 'baby' type dolls.
How nice that you'll have some time to yourself today. That will be nice after your busy weekend!
I'm really sorry about the parts of fireworks that were landing on your deck, and around the property! That sounds dangerous. The town fireworks here are set off over the water, but I hate to think what they do to the fish and to the water.

Kate - I'm glad your DH got so much work done, but sorry it is now work for you! Does your community pick up yard waste, or have a place you can take it to?
We have a big dumpster here this week for us to dispose of large items, but I can't think of anything I need to get rid of now. This is the first time in 2 or 3 years that we've had a dumpster. We used to have them every year.
It sounds like a busy day for you, with your meeting, as well as having DGS and the dogs!
Good luck with the menu planning. My plans got a little messed up. When I went to the fridge yesterday to get out the peppers for fajitas, I saw that the fresh mushrooms would not last another day. I had planned to use them today in a sort of omelette, but ended up having that last night instead. I don't know that I'll have the energy to do the fajitas tonight. They may wait until tomorrow, and I could just heat up a tin of Amy's soup for tonight...

I keep getting more quotes, but it's looking like it would cost at least $500 + tip, and I may sleep on it, but think it's just not realistic for me to pay that.

I hope your days are going well.

Leslie – have fun seeing the birds. I’ve seen shows like that before and I’m always amazed at them. Hope your phone calls are successful.

I didn’t hear anything from DD about the rain so I expect everything was OK.

DH did get all the stuff coming over the fence cut down. He did even more than I thought he would so I have a big brush pile to get rid of. Not sure what to do w/ it all.

Mema – my DD was never interested in dolls. I did get her an American Girl doll but the only time it got taken out was when she had another girl over to play. My DD was into critters – all sorts of animals. Stuffed ones were acceptable but she really wanted live ones and ended up w/ a huge number of pets over the years.

Enjoy your day to yourself. It’s sometimes nice to have the house all to yourself.

That’s kind of scary about the bits of fireworks dropping everywhere.

We’re not far from the New Hampshire border so people do buy fireworks and bring them back illegally. I do hear some bangs around the neighborhood sometimes but not as many as I did years ago. There was one house fire and one apartment building fire caused by illegal fireworks this year. I used to love the fireworks we set off as kids and had a lot of fun but, of course, we weren’t aware of all the dangers.

I have DGS and the dogs coming today and I'll go to an OA meeting. I do need to do some more menu planning for the week to come.

Another beautiful day here. Step-son and family left about 4:00 this afternoon. They will get home about 8:00. For about an hour before they left, I played Barbie's with Finlee (4 yo) and Ireland (10 yo). I decided I need to order more Barbie doll clothes, so I've been checking Amazon. Original Barbie clothes are kind of expensive, but there were 3 items of 2 sets of clothes and accessories for $8 each, but another vendor I can get 10 clothing items and 10 pairs of shoes for $10 and the ratings are good. I'll probably get all of those.

Tomorrow DH is going into Rice Lake by himself to pick up some roofing materials he ordered for our shed and pick up the riding lawn mower. I am going to stay home!! I'm actually excited to have the time to myself.

Leslie - so the 2 little one's I was "babysitting" are Zachary who's 2 1/2 and then Finlee who's 4.
I guess the laws around here are you can purchase the fireworks in WI, but they say you aren't supposed to light them off in WI! And in our little town, we have one police officer who covers a large area so he's not looking for any locals who are lighting fireworks. I went out onto our front deck for a bit to watch the "show" and then something hard hit our deck. I got a flash light to see what it was and it was part of the fireworks. It looked like a small 2" cylinder of cement (it wasn't cement, but it was quite hard). It would hurt you if you got hit with it!! And then today, I found another piece in our yard. In between the lighting of the fireworks, I could literally hear pieces dropping in the woods. And I know there was a lot dropping into the lake as well. DH says a lot of the fireworks people buy around here come from other countries and are probably filled with lead based materials because they aren't regulated like they are in the United States. So all of that is going into our lake. As much as they are pretty to watch, doesn't seem like it's too good for the environment. That's my venting for the day! LOL
Yes, my niece is getting married on the 13th. Which I thought was an odd day, but none of my business!
This evening was VERY peaceful! Everyone went home. On our way home from church, we have to make a left hand turn out of the parking lot and we had to turn right instead because of all the traffic that was heading back to the Twin Cities. Even trying to turn right, we had to wait a long time. So, I'm sure the freeway was jammed!
Sounds like you have a lot of options with 9 people you can call! I hope one of those works out for you.
I hope you have a wonderful time at your big bird exhibit! What types of birds will you see?

Kate - WI also has laws against "back yard" fireworks, but I guess you can apply for a permit, I'm guessing our neighbor didn't have one, but I don't know for sure. He's kind of "flighty" and young, so that's my guess and not originally from up in this area. And as I was saying with our little tiny town, it's tough to find a cop! I did tell DH thank goodness for all the rain we had for 2 days, because the worse thing up here is fire! We have a volunteer fire department, but basically, when they come, they just try to keep the fire from spreading to the neighbor's. I was getting a bit worried when I could hear all the "remnants" of the fireworks falling into the woods between us and those who were lighting off the fireworks. I would much rather have the local officials enforce the laws. Right in our little "downtown", they have a large display every year, so it's not like people have to travel to another town to see fireworks.
I hope your DH was able to get the yard work done for you.

Have a wonderful day!

Mema - I'm glad you had a beautiful day! How great to be able to babysit from your bedroom. How old are the two little kids?
I'm not sure what the laws are here around fireworks. The city puts on the big display, but I do sometimes hear a few others going off.
The wedding is July 20. I have 9 phone numbers to call for rides, and if the people I call can't do it, maybe they can give me another number... I pray I'll find someone.
Is your niece getting married on the 13th?
I hope your peace and quiet will be starting soon!
I'm glad you'll get your riding mower tomorrow.

Kate - I understand about Friday not being an official day off. I remember having to work the day after Thanksgiving, when a lot of people had that Friday off. (When I lived in the US; our Thanksgiving is a Monday holiday here.)
You got a lot of rain! Was your DD's car all right?
I hope your DH will be able to do the yard work today.

I'm having a quiet day. I will be reading of course. Tomorrow I'll be going to the library for that big bird exhibit - I'm really looking forward to that! When I get home I'll be making all those phone calls.
It's sunny today and probably mid-70s. I don't need the fan on; it's just comfortable.
I'm looking forward to my fajitas tonight.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – although it wasn’t an official day off, many people took Friday as a vacation day. When I took DGS to camp, they said he was the 5th person in their group to arrive. It’s usually about 20 in his group.

Hope the phone calls work out and you find a ride.

Mema – nice arrangement to be able to “watch” the step-grandkids from your own home.

Massachusetts has a strict law against private use of fireworks so we only get the big town displays, not individuals setting them off all over the place.

We got almost an inch of rain. The storms came through yesterday in the late afternoon and it poured. This morning is clear and dry and cooler – low 70’s. Just perfect in my book. The yard work that I had asked DH to do on 4th of July got postponed due to the nasty hot, humid weather so perhaps he’ll have time this afternoon when we get back from church.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

We had a beautiful day today. DH's other 2 kids and their families came down to visit. They are staying with their aunt down the road (DH's ex-sister-in-law). So we had a nice visit with everyone and saw all the grand kids.

I'm babysitting right now - from my bedroom. The 2 youngest are asleep out in the bunkhouse and I have their monitor right next to me. Their dad went down to the neighbor's with the older kids to watch the fireworks. Nice to be able to do what I want in my house and still be able to watch that the kids are asleep. And all I have to do is text my step-son if they wake up and fuss or I can go out there, too.

Tonight everyone is doing their fireworks, so it's quite loud here. Amazing that the little one's can sleep thru that. Literally the fireworks are just down the road.

Leslie - hope you are able to find a ride to the wedding. When is it again? I don't remember if you said. This coming weekend is my niece's wedding, so we will be gone for the entire weekend. Thank goodness I don't work anymore! I would be tired on Monday if I had to go to work.
In my neck of the woods, if the 4th fell on a weekday, the only way to have the day after off is to take it off. Most places I knew were open the next day.

Kate - Did you get a lot of rain? Our humidity dropped quite a bit after all of our rains.
Hope you DD got her car parked up the street.

Church tomorrow and then the kids will leave sometime in the afternoon. And it will be nice to have the peace and quiet once again with all the "weekenders" going home!

On Monday, we're going into Rice Lake to pick up my riding lawn mower! DH ordered it before and it arrived at the store damaged, so he had to re-order it again.

Have a peaceful day!

Mema - I'm glad you are enjoying Good Girls.
That Southwest Chicken does sound very good, but it sounds more fitting for a crowd such as you have.
You have really had a lot of rain! I'm glad you were able to have a few marshmallows in between.
You're having ham and scalloped potatoes, while I had (last night, and will have more tonight) ham and Swiss cheese sandwiches on pumpernickel - very good, but I should have got pickles too. I also have coleslaw, so it makes a good meal! I'll probably have the fajitas tomorrow.

Kate - I'll be making the calls on Monday to try to get a ride to the wedding. I really hope I can find a way to get there and back.
I hope your DD will be able to park on higher ground for tonight!
I'm surprised yesterday was a typical weekday for your family. I guess I thought more people would have the day off.

I hope you're both having good days!

Leslie – that’s funny that they sent you the ingredients for the flavored hummus instead of the premixed ones. I love fajitas.

I do hope something will work out for you to get to the wedding. But I’m glad you’re accepting that it may not and it’s OK as long as you make the effort.

Mema – your Southwest Chicken sounds good.

The rain coming in our area this evening is supposed to be heavy. I warned DD to move her car up the street when she parks this afternoon so it’s not in the lowest part of the street.

It’s been hot and increasingly humid here all week. They are predicting storms this afternoon or evening and then it will be much nicer tomorrow and Monday.

Yesterday was a typical week day for us. DD, DS and DH were all working. I took DGS to camp and went to spin class. I picked up DGS after camp and DD came to have dinner w/ us and take him home.

We had on and off rain most of the day today so it wasn't very nice. We did make a fire for marshmallows, and were able to make some, but then it started raining again and so we all decided to come inside for the evening.

Tomorrow it should stop raining! Over the last 2 days, our rain gauge shows 3 1/2"! We're also going to make a ham and scalloped potatoes for everyone for dinner. Nice that it's only Saturday tomorrow! Feels like it should be Sunday.

Leslie - I'm enjoying Good Girls a LOT!! It is a funny show - I love it!
We did have quite a few fireworks last night and I guess the neighbors down the road from us were supposed to shoot theirs off tonight, but I think they will wait until tomorrow. They did a few, but with the rain and it was still light out, so we didn't see much.
That's rather humorous about your hummus! My DIL ordered banana's from Walmart one time, asking for 1 lb. - they gave her 1 banana!! I'm glad you are going to get the correct things. Oh, fajita's sound yummy!! I made a Southwest Chicken last night for dinner. chopped up chicken, black beans, onions, garlic, diced tomatoes, cumin, corn all mixed together and we put it into tortillas like a taco.

Kate - Sorry to hear you didn't sleep well - I hate when that happens to me. Throws me off for the next day it seems.
You must be right about the King Charles - Georgia does seem pretty laid back. She is cute and cuddly.
It felt like today should have been Sunday to me, too. Especially with the kids here. They usually get here on Friday night, but this time it was Thursday night, so everything seems a day early.

Have a great day!

Mema - We are having very humid weather too. I'm glad the rain relieved the mugginess there. We may get rain or thunderstorms later.
What fun to have a puppy there!
I need to make some calls to see who can give me a ride to the wedding, and for how much. My son just meant I should pay the full cost, rather than sharing the cost with my sister. I wouldn't have asked for my sister's help if she hadn't offered to pay for the cab for me to meet her friends if I had gone with them. Oh well. I'll just have to do it.
Did you have a lot of fireworks?
Are you enjoying Good Girls? I thought it was fun.

Kate - If I can't find a ride to the wedding, I'll just have to miss it. As long as I really make the effort, I won't feel bad if it doesn't work out. There are no buses. Even if there were, I don't think I could climb into one. I know some buses 'kneel' but once on the first step, the next one is a big one.
I'm sorry you didn't sleep well. I understand the feeling that the days of the week are off, because of the holiday.

Yesterday when I ordered groceries, I asked for 2 containers of hummus, one red pepper and one garlic. My intention was to get flavoured hummus, but I got 2 plain ones, plus an actual red pepper, and a large garlic bulb! We are making the exchange today. I will keep the red pepper; I may make fajitas this weekend.

I hope you're both having good days!

Mema - even though the cherries were at the farm stand – they’re not local cherries. We don’t grow many cherries around here. We’ll have local peaches and other stone fruit that will be ripening in late July and on into September.

I had a friend who got a King Charles when her kids were little because it was the breed that was the most laid back and mellow. She didn’t want a dog that needed a lot of exercise.

We’re going to get that cooling off rain here on Saturday. Until then we’re hot and muggy.

Leslie – hope you are able to work something out so you can go to the wedding. And if not, that you are comfortable w/ the decision. Is there any long distance bus route that would take you close?

Ugh! I didn’t sleep at all well last night. And the mid-week holiday has thrown off my sense of time. Half of my brain keeps thinking it should be Sunday since yesterday seemed like Saturday.

I did my laundry and cleaned my house before the kids got here. But it was sooooo humid today, it was unbelievable! Then around 1:00 it started to rain and it didn't stop until 6:30! We got over 2" of rain! After it started raining, it did cool off and the mugginess went away.

The kids brought up their new puppy - the King Charles ...... - Georgia's her name. She looks like a little floor mop! She is cute and not all hyper for only being 4 months old.

Leslie - Whatever you decide to do for your sister's wedding, I would just be sure you'll have no regrets - either way. That's the way I would look at it. But what did your son mean when he said you should just pay the full cost of getting to the wedding?
I'm glad you are having a nice day. Our rain is done for today. There's a chance of storms tomorrow off and on and then on Sat/Sun it should be dry.

Kate - I love those days where I don't have anything to do!! Seems like this summer, I haven't had too many of them!
I bet your cherries are delicious!! We don't have farm stands that sell those - we've got strawberries and other fruits and veggies, but I don't think I've ever seen cherries. I'll be eating those now almost every day until I can't get them anymore.

Time to watch Good Girls on Netflix now. I'm wondering if we'll hear/see a lot of fireworks tonight considering how wet it is still and now the mosquitoes are out in full force. Most of the "celebrations" are being held on Saturday.

Enjoy your day!

Mema - I'm glad you got a new blow dryer! That burning smell sounds potentially dangerous.
Great that you had so many at your meeting!
Oh, I love cherries! I ordered groceries today but forgot to ask if they had cherries yet. I'll put them on my list for next time, for sure.
Good for you for cutting the grass in the heat and humidity.
I'm sure you'll enjoy Good Girls! I was sad to see it end. I don't seem to be able to watch more than one episode/night of Queen of the South. It's a little too exciting for me, but I do like it a lot!
I just talked to my son. He called me because of the holiday. He thinks I should just bite the bullet and pay the full cost of getting to my sister's wedding. I'll need to call around to see who would be willing to drive me and how much it will be. I expect it to cost at least $200, and possibly as much as $300. That will put a huge dent in my little savings account, and will take a long time to recover from. It's hard for me to save money from my small income of about $1600/month. Besides my rent, I am paying a LOT toward credit card debt every month, so I don't have a lot of 'wiggle room'. I do want to be at my sister's wedding, of course. I hope I'll be able to work it out.

Kate - I'm very happy you're enjoying having nothing that has to be done today! I remember loving that feeling too.
With the mammogram, for me the lateral view is the only one that is not almost impossible for me to do. I have had good and bad techs. I had one horrible one who grabbed my head and tried to force it into position. Thank goodness that wasn't very recent, as my kyphosis has progressed.

We are having a lovely day. It's supposed to be about 80 and it's sunny.

I hope you are each having a wonderful day.

I'm sitting here enjoying the thought that I don't have a single thing I "have to do" today. No dogs, no DGS, no shopping trips or appointments. Nice!

Mema – nice to pick up extra people at a meeting. I see that sometimes at our holiday meetings. Although sometimes we get fewer people.

I got cherries at the farm stand on Tuesday. Love them.

I’ve never tried a sun parasol but I almost always wear a hat to keep the sun off my face.

Leslie – sorry things didn’t work out w/ your sister. Hope you can regain your equilibrium after the argument. I hate having people mad at me and having voices raised at me makes me feel shaky, too, even though I don’t have anxiety disorder. Good for you – standing up for what you need!

I was thinking when I had the mammogram of what you posted after yours. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to get positioned correctly. Although I’ve found the technicians who do the tests are very skilled at it.

Another busy day. I did sleep very well last night, so that was good. I had to stop at Dollar General on my way to my meeting. I think my blow dryer is getting ready to conk out on me. It's VERY old and yesterday and today when I was drying my hair, I can smell a burning smell. So I got a new one.

We had 19 people at our meeting today!! I think because of the holiday. Several people I have not seen before, so that was good and the topic was RELAPSE! How appropriate with the holiday tomorrow.

On my way home, I stopped at the local grocery store to get bing cherries. They had them on sale and I just love them!! And then made a quick stop at the gas station/convenience store for their items that were on sale.

Then I did get my grass cut - but it was hot today!! It got up to 88 here today and was a bit muggy. Luckily, there was a nice breeze coming off the lake, so that helped a lot!

Tomorrow I will clean and get my laundry done. DH's son and family will be here sometime late afternoon or evening for the weekend. I'd like to have all my stuff done by then.

Leslie - I was thinking your housekeeper was there yesterday when I didn't see your post.
I'm just about finished with Queen and then I'm going to switch to Good Girls - I need something a little lighter or at least w/some humor for awhile!
I'm glad you were able to see all the fireworks from your bed! How great! We'll have fireworks all around the lake that we can see, plus one of the neighbors 3 houses down usually has a HUGE display!
I'm so sorry you had such a bad conversation with your sister. I know the feeling well! I'm sorry you will miss the wedding. My sister has a very hard time empathizing with people and if she has never gone thru what someone else is going thru, she has no sympathy if she doesn't see it. And as we get older, it is harder to do things by ourselves - especially when all of it will be new to us. And you being an introvert can make it even harder!! Since I'm an extrovert, I think it's sometimes easier since we like to be around people no matter if we know them or not. It's better when we DO know them, but we can make the best of it even w/out knowing someone. Maybe it will still work out somehow for you - I hope it does, but if not, you take care of YOU! That's the important thing.

Kate - I don't usually mind going shopping at all, but for some reason yesterday I was just wore out. I went to bed early and slept in a bit this morning.
I can take more heat if the humidity is low. Do you ever use an umbrella if you're walking in the sun? I see that often in TX and it seems like it might be cooler than having a hat on????? I don't wear hats well at all.
I love your visual for weight loss!! I did that once with paper clips. Kept adding one (making a chain) for each pound I lost. Visuals are good.

Happy 4th of July!!

My apologies for not posting yesterday - my housekeeper was here, and by the time she leaves, at around 1 PM, I have the laundry to put away, and then I'm pretty much worn out for the day.
I decided not to call my sister, but I sent an email this morning, explaining that I'm going to need a ride back after the wedding. She'll probably call me. I don't always trust myself to stand up to her. However, I am certain that if I go to the wedding, I need to come back here afterward.
We did have the fireworks Monday night. I wasn't able to stay up but woke up when they started, and discovered I had the perfect view while sitting up in bed!

Mema - sorry it was hot and muggy in Duluth, but glad you did the things you had planned to do.
The prizes you bought for Dakota sound great! I'm sure she'll like those suncatchers.
Nice that you'll have company for your holiday weekend.
I hope you have a good meeting today and are able to get your grass cut.
I finished the second season of Good Girls last night, and that was the end of it, at least for now. I am only at about episode 4 of the second season of Queen of the South; I thought I was farther along with that.

Kate - I'm sure you will enjoy your holiday weekend too!
The mammogram machine you had sounds like the one here, where my face is also rammed up against the plastic. Since I have kyphosis, it's VERY difficult to keep my head out of the picture. My neck hurt for 6 weeks after I had mine. I talked to my doctor about maybe having an ultrasound next year, but she said that most people stop having mammograms at 74, and since it will be 10 years since I had the cancer, she thinks that I can discontinue the mammograms if I choose to do that. I will need to be more diligent about self-exams though.
I also hate humidity! And shopping. I get in and out of stores as quickly as possible. I'm sorry you have to be on foot in the heat today!
I really love your visual for your weight loss - what a great idea! You really are doing very well; good for you.

Well, my sister has already called me. She first tried to say I was 'confused' about the situation which is laughable. I'm not confused at all. She got angrier and angrier as we talked. She ended up saying "I guess you can't come then". We're obviously both disappointed. I get very stressed when someone is angry at me, so I'm feeling a little shaky now. I know she doesn't know what it's like to have anxiety disorder, as well as bipolar disorder. I used to be able to do more things comfortably, but now I feel the need to stay in my comfort zone. If I had a spouse, partner, or friend to go with, it would be different, but I just can't do that alone.

I hope your days are going well.

Leslie – did you have a chance to talk w/ your sister about the wedding transportation?

Mema – I opted for strength training. When I dropped off DGS at camp, I would have had to wait half an hour for the yoga class and wanted to just get my exercise and leave. I was out of there by the time the yoga class would have been half way through.

I find shopping trips wear me out. I hate humidity more than any other kind of weather.

DH needs to take the car again today to go to the company office. I’ll be on foot going places. It’s going to be near 90 degrees which is a lot hotter than I like but at least it won’t be as humid. Lots of sunscreen and a hat!!

Years ago I made myself a "visual" for tracking my weight loss. I hadn't kept up w/ it but decided to "up-date" it. The photo on the left is what it looked like when I made it. All those pounds to lose. The photo on the right is where I am today. More than three fourths of the pounds moved into the 'forever gone' vase.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

It was a long day today. Left about 9:30 and got home at 6:00. And for some reason I was extremely tired when we got home. It was in the upper 80's and muggy up in Duluth!!!! That's a bit unusual for them. But we got the tires and our shopping done.

Tomorrow I have my meeting and if it doesn't rain, I'd like to get the grass cut.

Kate - That makes sense about the sudden downpour of rain with the sewers.
I'm glad that the new mammo machine wasn't as painful. And maybe the fact that you lost weight makes a difference???
What did you decide to do at the gym today?

Leslie - hope you had an enjoyable day.

I think I will get ready for bed.

Happy Wednesday!!

Mema – that does sound like a nice sleep in day.

Enjoy your trip today. Hope you get all your shopping done quickly. Nice to have company coming for the holiday.

There are sewers and drains, it was just too much rain all at once for the system to handle it all. That kind of downpour is pretty rare in our area. We tend more to having 3-4 days of off and on rain rather than quick storms.

Leslie – hope things work out for the transportation to and from the wedding.

I think we'll spend our 4th of July holiday like you spent yours - nice and quiet.

Yesterday I went for my mammogram. They have a new machine. It didn’t seem quite so painfully pinchy as the old one but I had to stand w/ my face rammed up against the plastic shield. Awkward. After she took the first image, she asked if I had lost weight. I wonder if she had last year’s there on the screen for comparison?

I’m headed to the gym this morning. Last week my DH had the car or I had appointments so I didn’t get any real exercise. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll go to yoga class or just do my strength training.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

I did sleep in today! Although I first woke up about 7 am, checked my email and a few things. Then I thought I would just rest for a bit - the next thing I knew it was 10 am!! It was cloudy and rainy, so it was nice to stay in bed.

Tomorrow DH and I are going up to Duluth. He's getting the new tires put on the truck. Then we will also get some shopping done for the upcoming 4th of July weekend. DH's son and family will be here and then DH's oldest daughter and her 2 boys are coming up on Sat/Sun. But they may stay down at her aunt's house. They have a cabin just down the road from us. So that will actually work out well for us.

Leslie - I bought 3 prizes for Dakota (just in case she won all the games!). I bought her a 300 piece puzzle, 2 Minnie Mouse sun catchers she can paint and the last prize was 3 crocheted head bands and 2 lip balms. She ended up with the sun catchers when she chose her prize for winning the game.
I've forgotten about Good Girls - I definitely want to watch that one.
Happy Canada Day!! emoticon I hope they were able to have the fireworks show!
I hope you can get everything all straight with your sister tomorrow for her wedding.

Kate - Wow, that was a lot of rain at one time. Are there enough drainage sewers in her neighborhood? Sounds like they might need more or maybe they got clogged???? I'm glad her car started for her.
I like low 80's and sun and a breeze for my perfect weather! And low humidity. (not asking too much, huh? LOL)
Glad you avoided the hail that was coming down.

We're going to watch Creed II from Netflix DVD now.

Have a great day!!

Mema - I'm so glad you had such a good time, and that you and your sister have truly made up!
I'm happy the shower went well, and Dakota won one of the games - what did she win?
I'm glad your niece was doing so well following her surgery. I'm sure she appreciated your efforts.
The food sounded wonderful. Too bad you didn't get in for a swim, but I understand just being tired out.
Glad you missed the storms on your way home.
My sister finally sent me the names of the people, but didn't give me their email address. She gave mine to them, but she said they are trying to figure out a place for us to meet. I already know where I'd like it to be. If I had a way to contact them, we could have sorted all this out already.
I am enjoying Queen of the South still. I am in season 2, but I forget which episode - I think it's about 10 or 12. It's an exciting show!
I'll have to check out Bad Blood when I'm done with this one. I'm also still watching Good Girls.
It's our Canada Day holiday today. There maybe rain and storms later - I hope the fireworks won't be rained out!

Kate - I like the temp a little warmer, mid to upper 70s suits me! I'm sorry about your storms. I'm glad you didn't get caught in the hail!
Wow that was a lot of rain at your DD's place. I imagine that if her car started all right, it's OK, but I hope she won't have problems with it.
Thank you for the Canada Day wishes!

I'm just having a quiet day which is lovely. I will contact my sister tomorrow about how I might get to the wedding. She can be quite aggressive about things she wants, so I may have to stand my ground.

Enjoy your Monday!

Pat - I also meant to thank you for the threads!

Pat - Thanks for setting up our new threads!

Mema – so happy that things worked out so well w/ your sister. What fun that your DGD won one of the games. I bet that made her day – to win a “grown up” game.

And it sounds like even the weather cooperated and didn’t get too hot and muggy. All those thunder storms end up coming here.

Hope you had a lovely long sleep in this morning. It’s always nice to be back home in your own bed.

Leslie – hope the alternative plan works out for you. Sunny and low 70’s is my idea of perfect weather.

We had storms all weekend long w/ thunder and sudden downpours. I went out to do some shopping on Saturday. I came back to the car to go to a different store and they were reporting hail 5-10 miles west of us heading our way so I went home instead.

DD called in a panic b/c her neighborhood had a sudden drenching (1.6 inches in one big storm). The water in the streets was up over the curb and the sidewalks were covered. The little park/playground next to her house was covered w/ water, too. She was panicked that her car would be ruined. Fortunately it did start again the next day so I guess it’s OK. DH told her to be sure and get it checked out but I’m not sure she’ll find time to do that unless it has problems.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.
