Busy, busy weekend, but it was fun! I left my house at 6:30 am on Friday morning. It was pretty foggy out, but after a couple of hours it was fine. I got to my sister's house about 11:00 am (I had to make a couple of stops before). When she came out to see me, we gave each other a big hug. I told her how sorry I was and she said she knew, but it's over now so not to worry. And so everything was good!

I helped her out and on Saturday, the shower went well. My DGD, Dakota was there and she won one of the games! I was so happy for her. It was "musical bouquet" - like musical chairs except you pass a bouquet of flowers around and when the music stops, whoever has the flowers in their hands is out.

My niece was feeling pretty good after having her surgery (gall bladder removed) on Monday. She "laid low" most of the weekend, but enjoyed the shower. Her and her fiance stayed over the whole weekend, too.

We had a ton of food!! Partly because a few people cancelled out at the last minute. We served Fruited Chicken Salad, Croissants, Fruit salad (the one I made with the vanilla yogurt - everyone raved about it again), deviled eggs, veggies and dip and chips. And then cake for dessert.

But I am glad to be home and back in my own bed. I had brought my swim suit, but it never really got as hot and muggy as they were predicting! So we never did go in the lake. I think we were all so tired out that even if it had been hot, we would have just stayed in the A/C house! LOL

Had a good drive home - bad t-storms went thru early in the morning at my sister's house and then went thru at my house, but when I left today (1:00) everything was done, so I had a good drive home.

Leslie - Your potential compromise sounds like a good idea - I hope that can get worked out for you. I don't blame you for not wanting to hang around afterwards w/people you don't know and for several days!
Where are you on Queen of the South? I'm on Season 3, Episode 6. There are 13 episodes and then it's done. I just found another show I'm going to start watching - Bad Blood, it's about the Mob in Montreal! Looks good. Only 2 seasons. I will finish Queen of the South first.

Kate - You're right about making amends and what a difference it can make. And I was surprised that my sister accepted my amends and really moved on. That's not typical for her. But I am very glad and grateful - we really had a wonderful weekend together!
I remember you talking about that friend of yours you met when your kids were in the nursery together. That is so neat you have remained friends for all these years. I hope you had a good lunch and chat.
Sorry to hear that your MRI showed the arthritis. I hope you can get relief thru exercise alone. That would be great.

I plan on sleeping in tomorrow! Now I'm going to watch a couple of episodes of my show on Netflix!
I can't believe it will be July tomorrow!! Where is this summer going??????

Have a great Monday!

Kate - I haven't spoken to my sister yet (don't want to disturb her holiday weekend) but I think I've come up with a potential compromise. If the people driving me to the wedding are coming back up north afterward and are willing to give me a ride back too, I could go to the wedding, and just avoid being away for the next 3 days, and the drinking. I really would love to be at the wedding; it's the aftermath I don't want to participate in.

We are having a beautiful day, sunny and low 70s. The storms from the west may be here tomorrow though.

I'm trying to catch up with reading this afternoon. I hope your day is going well.

Leslie – of course you have to do what’s best for yourself. If the 12 Step way has taught me anything, it’s that we don’t know anyone else’s path. Each person has to find their own way to gain and keep sobriety. All that the rest of us can do is just make suggestions and then cheer them on no matter what they choose to do. And losing your sobriety over attending a wedding would be awful. Not at all what your sister would want.

Mema - hope you are having a wonderful time at the shower.

Mema- I am so glad you got there safely! And that you and your sister had a good hug!

Kate - I'm glad you got your results right away. I hope you will find some exercises to do.
How great that you will have, or have had brunch with an old friend!

I have reached a decision - I couldn't sleep last night and ended up taking 3 doses of my anxiety med. (Each dose is a small amount.) I went online to a site I've been on over 12 years, and posted about my dilemma. There was a lot of active discussion, about the level of my anxiety, (which I think would have me crying myself to sleep at night)and the fact that I'm not worried about smoking, but am worried about losing my sobriety. Everyone ended up saying the same thing - that my first priority has to be self-care. One woman suggested that maybe I could watch via webcam, and that sounds like a good possibility to me.
If it were just the wedding, and I lived relatively close, of course I would go, but in this situation there is just too much going on for my social anxiety to cope with. And I do NOT want to lose my sobriety! If my friend could have come so that it would have been a day trip, that would have been wonderful. But the idea of being there, essentially alone, with no possibility of escape for 3 days and 3 nights is just too much.
I know you think I should have gone, but you are not experiencing this level of high anxiety, so I just have to do what I'm able to do.

I hope you're both having good days - I hope the shower is great!

Leslie – I woke up to thunderstorms this morning. Yesterday was really hot!

I’ve already got the results for the MRI. It’s basically the kind of progressive arthritic changes that comes w/ age. I asked to see a spinal specialist to see if they can find some type of treatment – even just specific exercises – that can slow the progression.

I hope you do gather the courage to brave the trip. I expect you’ll regret missing the wedding if you let your fears rule you. At least, I know that’s how I would feel.

Mema – so glad! Doesn’t it make a big difference when we can make our amends and clear things up quickly?

Today I'm having brunch w/ an old friend. We met when our children were in the church nursery and have kept up a pattern of having lunch or breakfast together every few months.

Just a quick note to let you know that when I got to my sister's house, we gave each other a big hug and both of us teared up! So it was good!!

And it has been a good day. My niece is here as well. But it's been a long day, so I need to get to sleep.

Have a great day!

Mema - I hope you had a better sleep last night, and I wish you a safe trip, with no really heavy rain.
Thank you for your support re: all my anxieties!
You're right, the Lifeline is very loud when it beeps! It really makes me nervous. If it happens again, I will ask for a new 'necklace'.
I hope the shower will be excellent, and you and your sister have a good hug.

Kate - When will you get the results from your MRI? I have been having more trouble with a leg or my hand 'going to sleep' as I age, but it never lasts long.
I'm glad the 2 mini fridges are gone. If someone took the broken one, they will be disappointed! That was really nice to get the gift card for the ice cream place as a thank you for the other one.
Thank you too for your support re: all my concerns. I haven't written to my sister yet. I am thinking that I just don't want to be there that long on my own and with no transportation. I am considering finding out if the people I'll be riding with are returning up this way following the wedding, so maybe I can get a ride back with them too. I am still hoping they don't have a van or SUV.
Or, I could rent a car, in theory at least. I do still have my license but I haven't driven in over a year and I'm afraid I may not have the confidence to do a lot of highway driving, and to a place I don't know. I'm not sure I'd even be comfortable driving around here. I thought I could rent the car a day early and do some practice driving around here first.
Or, I could just decide not to go. I'm sure I probably am just too set in my ways. The idea of meeting a lot of strangers terrifies me.
I want to calm down a little more before I decide what to do.

We have been getting quite a bit of rain, and there may still be some thunderstorms. It doesn't feel as hot yet as it was supposed to be.

I hope you're both doing well.

Mema – I will use sleeping pills in just that kind of situation – where I have had one restless night and really need to have a good sleep for the next night. Hope it worked for you.

Have a wonderful trip today. And a great time at the shower. Saying another prayer for you and yourr sister as you meet again for the first time since the internment.

Leslie – Sorry you can’t read in the car. I get “sea sick” if I try to read in a car.

I think as we get older, “adventure” loses it’s attraction. I think especially when you’re used to living alone. I know it took me a while to get used to having my DS show up w/ the dogs four days/week and I have to adjust every summer when DGS is being dropped off every day. It’s probably good for me to have those interruptions to keep me from getting too set in my ways.

I expect it will all work out well and you’ll be glad you had the opportunity to be at your sister’s wedding. Try some slow deep breaths to signal your body to relax when your mind starts whirling.

The MRI - I have been having an issue w/ the outer side of my left leg going tingly and then numb when I stand for any length of time or when I roll on my left side at night. I’ve seen an orthopedic specialist and he agreed that it’s probably a nerve being pinched. I tried exercises to stretch out the hip area and that didn’t do any good. So they’re looking at the spine now to see what’s going on. Hopefully they will get some information that will allow them to plan a treatment even if it’s just a better set of exercises.

We got rid of the two mini fridges – the one we borrowed that broke during defrosting and the replacement we bought. The broken one went out on the street w/ the trash and was gone. Not sure if someone scavenged it or the trashmen took it. The friends we borrowed it from didn’t want the replacement and suggested we give it to one of the families in the church that has a child heading to college. So we offered it and it was accepted w/ pleasure. We delivered it last night and the mom gave us a gift card to the local ice cream place as a thank you. We'll need to plan a trip w/ DGS next week sometime.

Oh, I had a hard time getting to sleep last night, but I forced myself to get up at 7:00 this morning (fell asleep about 3 am). I want to be tired enough so I don't have that same problem tonight! I think just too much on my mind. I may take one of my sleeping pills early so I fall asleep at a decent time. Tomorrow will be a very busy day. On my way to my sister's house I need to stop at the bank, then Sam's Club and then Walmart. That will be 2 hours into my drive, so a nice break. Then about an hour and half left until I get to my sister's.

We were supposed to get some strong t-storms this morning, so I quickly put my gifts and prizes and some hanging clothes out in the car before the rain. Well, we ended up getting just a bit of rain - no t-storms. We are supposed to get more rain tonight, so I'll see how that turns out. But then, it will be hot over the next few days!

So, just a reminder, I probably won't be posting tomorrow or Saturday for sure and depending on how tired I am on Sunday, I may skip. But I'll try and post on Sunday night.

Leslie - I'm sorry you can't read in a car - there are a lot of people who can't. I also like to watch the scenery. If I do nap, it's usually for 20-25 minutes and then I wake up. I think that's a great idea to ask your sister your questions. The more info you have should help alleviate some of your anxiety. No worries about "dumping" - I've done it, too! We all need to vent sometimes, so don't worry about that! You can do that anytime, as far as I'm concerned! emoticon
I'm sorry you're having such a time with your Lifeline. They really didn't give you a very good explanation. I wonder if you could ask for a replacement since it's so startling. I can imagine it would be - especially when you're not expecting it. If I remember correctly, it's a pretty loud sound! You could explain that when that happens, it may very well turn into an emergency! LOL

Kate - Sorry to hear about your low attendance at one of your meetings and then possibly closing it. But, if so few people show up and if there are other meetings available, then it makes sense. I found out that my club has started an Al-Anon meeting 1x/week. They used to have one every week, then 2 of the gals kind of got into a fight so they closed the meeting. My DH would attend there, so I did tell him it was starting up again.
Good thing you had extra clothes for your DGS! Long sleeves and pants probably would be a tad warm for 80 degrees - especially for a boy.
I'm curious, too about what your MRI is for? My DH has to have one on his neck this year. He had surgery on that 9 years ago (a laminectomy??) and last summer when he had his back operation, his surgeon (a neuro surgeon) suggested he have one just to make sure everything is OK.

Hope you both have a great weekend!!

Mema - Wow, that was a good deal at the store that is closing!
It's good to have a big meeting like that. You've been doing a lot of work around the house too.
I can read in other modes of transportation, but reading in a car just doesn't work for me. I like to watch the scenery and daydream when I'm a passenger.
My Lifeline has started beeping for no reason 4 times now. I do check in once a month, and if I forget, they will 'beep' me, but there's a reason for that. Yesterday morning I was just walking to the bathroom - I was not touching the button, and I didn't bump into anything. The time before, I was in the shower, and my back was turned to the spray and didn't touch the button. The other 2 times happened in the same day - one time I was just sitting, and the other time I was getting something out of my closet. Each time it happens, it's really startling, so it gets me a little upset. I've complained about it, and they just tell me it's 'sensitive', but that doesn't explain anything to me.
Having your water shut off without notice, especially around dinner time, would be very inconvenient too!
I have taken that MBTI, and know my first 2 letters are IN, but can't remember the last 2. I know it was a rare combination, so it may be the same as your DH!

Kate - As far as I know, I'll just be in the car with a couple on the way to the wedding. Now I'm worrying if it might be a van or SUV which I often have an awful time climbing into.
I'll paste what I wrote to a friend earlier - some of which is not new to this thread, but will show you how nervous I'm getting about the whole thing:
Marion has friends from Markdale (about half an hour south of here) and I'll be able to get a ride with them, but I'll need to take a cab to meet them in Markdale. Marion will reimburse me for the cab. I would have loved to say 'forget it', but I've spent $836 at the dentist's office this month, so I will need the money back. I am starting to get nervous. I don't know the people I'll be riding with at all, and I am worried that they aren't good drivers, and how it will be to ride with people I don't know for that long, at least 3 hours. After the wedding, I will apparently be staying at the house across the road from Marion and Bob' house. I've never been there, and don't know how many, if any, other people will be there, and I probably won't know them either. The wedding will be on Saturday, and Marion and Bob will drive me home on Tuesday. As an introvert, I'm worried about how many people there will be, and what we'll be doing for those days. I will bring books along of course, so I'll read when I can. I hope I won't be sharing a room with anyone - I get up at about 4 AM and go to bed by 8 PM, so I wouldn't be a desirable roommate, although I would of course try to be considerate, and leave the room to read in the living room until someone else is up. I hope there wouldn't be people sleeping in the living room too. I'm worried that the bed I might be sleeping in will be too high for me to get into. I am so worried about so many things. I wish I could just teleport to the wedding, and back home again. I know I should think of this as an adventure, but can't seem to get into that frame of mind. I'm sorry for all the whining! I am happy I'll be able to be at the wedding, but wish I didn't have to be away for so long.
I think part of it is that I'll feel trapped without my own transportation to leave when I want to.
I think I need to write a list of questions to my sister, so I'll know more about what to expect. I just hope she'll answer everything. I'm sure she has no idea of the agony I'm getting myself into.
I'm very sorry about the low attendance at your Monday meeting, and that it might have to close.
It's a good thing you have extra clothes for your DGS! It's also about 80 degrees here today. Tomorrow it will be feeling like 96! I wanted heat, LOL.
What is your MRI for? I didn't know you had an appointment for one.
I'm all for a placid life! I had years of drama when I was younger, and now I just get exhausted easily.

Sorry for dumping all my concerns here! I'm going to make that list of questions for my sister.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – it’s hard to do w/o water. The only time we’ve had the water shut off is when they’ve been doing plumbing work in the house so we know in advance that it will be shut off. It sounds like yours was an unplanned repair.

LOL about the beer bottle in the septic. I wonder how on earth you could get one down there? Perhaps one of the workman while it was being built?

It does sound a bit nerve wracking to be stuck w/ a bunch of unknown people for a number of hours. I think Mema’s suggestion of bringing a book would be useful.

I’ve had a number of people in my life who are talkers: my mom, my daughter, a good friend. I’ve learned to listen w/o feeling that I need to really interact. I figured out that they really don’t need me to be an “active listener”. They just need a warm body to be present while they talk things through.

Mema – sounds like you got some good bargains.

I’ve done the Myers-Briggs but I don’t remember all my “types”. I do know that my DH and I had almost identical profiles.

How nice to have a good full meeting. My Monday morning meeting is suffering from low attendance. I was talking w/ one of the other regular attenders and we agreed that it would probably have to close at the end of August unless more people started coming regularly.

DGS spent the night. Didn’t know he was going to until his mom dropped him off yesterday morning. He had packed himself a bag of clothes – long pants and a long sleeved shirt – and it’s going to be 80 degrees. Fortunately I have extra clothes here. I realized last night that I would have to make him a lunch for today as well as snacks so I was scrambling a little to find food. I need to get to the store again today to restock fresh things.

DH has to go spend today at the company office like he has the last 2 days. But I need the car to get to an MRI so he’s going to be calling an uber. I had to call last night and change my house cleaners’ day, too, since we had originally planned for him to be here to let them in this afternoon. Unexpected busy time. Makes me realize how placid my life normally is when I have extra things thrown at me.

Kind of a busy day today. When I went into town for my meeting I stopped by Family Dollar because that store is closing and Dollar Tree is going to move in so they are selling EVERYTHING. It is all 70% off unless the item is $1 or less. Well, I got $21 worth of things for $7! That was a pretty good deal.

Our meeting was full! I think there 16 of us altogether! When I got home I cleaned the bathrooms and did some vacuuming. Tomorrow I will do laundry and finish my packing since I will leave bright and early on Friday morning.

Leslie - hopefully you'll have nice weather for your sister's wedding and maybe you can sit outside if there are a lot of people in the house that you're staying at. And I'm sure people will want to visit while you're driving thinking they are being polite - maybe you could bring along a book to read in the car. I'm sure it is a little nerve racking when there are so many unknowns.
My mom's Life Alert would beep if she hadn't checked in with the company once/month. She always marked it on her calendar and would call them. But if she forgot, it would beep - but I think someone came on the line and asked if she was alright. Did you ever figure out why yours was beeping?
We get our water shut off occasionally in TX w/out notice! And it usually happens during "working hours" not early in the morning or late at night. And the worse part is not knowing how long it will be off. Several times it has happened around dinner time! I'm glad yours wasn't anything in your apartment.

Kate - If you are at all familiar with Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), my DH is an INFJ - Introvert, iNtuitive, Feeler, Judger. I'm an ESFP - Extrovert, Sensor, Feeler, Perceiver. DH's type is one of the rarest - only 1% of the people are his type. For me it's 11% of the population.
Your day sounds lovely - walking around town, having the day to yourself. I like some time by myself, too. Probably just not as much as you and Leslie (or my DH)! LOL

Enjoy your Thursday!!

Mema - I'm glad you've figured out what you need to take with you. I usually write out a list for when I'm going to be away from home.
I'm really sorry about your septic problems! We had to deal with those in one place we lived, and finally found that someone who lived there before us had somehow got a beer bottle into the system and it was pretty much plugging the pipe! Once that was removed, everything ran smoothly.
It's great that your DH is so handy, and he certainly did a lot of work building the cabin!
I hope you enjoy your meeting today! I'm glad you had such a lovely day yesterday. We're getting it today, but it is a little humid here.
I'm more like your DH. I am organized in my head, but don't always look organized!
I also find being with people, especially a lot of people, or for a long time, draining. That's why I'm a little concerned about spending those few days across the road from my sister after her wedding next month. Since I won't be staying at her house, I suppose it will be full of people, and I don't know how many of us will be staying in the neighbours' house... I think just not knowing what to expect is making me nervous, and I'll also be driving to the wedding with people I haven't met before. I hope they won't be talking for the entire 3+ hour drive. If they do, I'll be exhausted by the time we get to the wedding!
I hope you and your sister can have a big hug!

Kate - Your DH being handy with computers sounds very helpful too! I haven't had many problems lately, but it's very frustrating when I do.
I am obviously an introvert too!
That was a very long day for your DH and your DGS! How nice that you didn't have the dogs, and had the day all to yourself. I'm sure you enjoyed the Bible study, and lunch with your friend.

I had a strange start for the day. As I was walking to the bathroom when I got up, my Lifeline started beeping for no reason. It annoys me when that happens. The previous time it happened when I was in the shower. It's very loud. Then, when I flushed, the tank didn't refill with water. I was able to wash my hands, so I thought it was a problem with the toilet and filled out a maintenance request and took it downstairs to the box for the requests. When I was coming back up, I saw the note by the elevators saying that the water was shut off to all apartments. This was all between 4:30 and 4:45 AM. A couple of hours later, one of the guys knocked on my door. I told him I had seen the note after asking for help. He was trying to get hold of plumbers. Apparently there was a leak somewhere.
I had a bottle of water in the fridge so I was able to make my cup of coffee. I went to the exercise class, and when that was done, the water was back on. Thank goodness!

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – oh, my! Clogged septic pipes! Ugh!

Your DH does sound like a really handyman w/ all he does on the house and the vehicles. Mine is good on anything w/ computers but not the other stuff.

Enjoy your meeting and picking up last minute things.

Your description of being energized or drained by people is classic extrovert and introvert. I'm like your DH. I like people but find them draining and need time alone to recover.

Leslie – I find the magnesium very helpful for restless legs, too.

Glad you’re getting some warmer weather finally. We’ve got some mugginess, too.

Yesterday DH left w/ DGS at 8 and got back after 5. So they both had long days - DH digging through boxes of old files and DGS at camp with extended hours pre and post. DS called and said he wasn't bringing the dogs so I had the day totally to myself. I sat in bed for an hour and played computer solitare then got up for a leisurely shower. After that, I got out my big rainbow umbrella and walked all over town doing errands, met my friend for lunch and Bible study. Then walked home and got some things done before dinner.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

I did figure out what clothes I am taking to my sister's and got some other toiletry items organized today. I was doing that while DH was unplugging the drain to our septic tank! Ugh!!! Our toilets were slowing down over the last couple of days and plunging them stopped working. He found some roots from some small plants had gotten in between the seal of the steel pipe and the plastic pipe that goes from the house to the septic tank! But, oh, man the smell was terrible - only in the basement - literally smelled like sh*t!! LOL But he's the one who put in all the piping and plumbing, so he knew where to start. He did say if he couldn't have found the clog, he would have called a plumber, but he can fix most things. He built everything in this cabin except for laying the cement block for the basement - but he did all the framing, sheetrocking, mudding, taping, electrical, plumbing - literally everthing!

Yesterday, he put new struts on my small Saturn. He's pretty handy to have around, I will say that! LOL

Tomorrow I have my meeting that I've missed for 2 weeks now and will go into town a bit early to stop at Dollar General to pick up a couple of things that I need for the shower.

We had an absolutely beautiful day here - sunny and warm, low humidity. Right after supper, though we had a stray shower, but it only lasted about 10 minutes.

Leslie - Yes, I do try to be organized. I think part of it is because my DH is organized in his head, but everything around him is unorganized and it can drive me batty!! LOL
And yes, my DH will stay home while I'm gone. He likes his alone time. He needs it more than I do. For him, people tend to drain him, where for me people energize me. He knows that about himself and me, so usually when I want to go somewhere (like to my DS's or visiting someone else) - he's like - Go, have fun!! But he comes to other functions when I tell him he needs to.
I'm glad you are feeling better today.
I also take 2000 IU's of Vitamin D everyday. I started taking it because of my sister having breast and ovarian cancers. My doctor said, it's not proven, but it can help in prevention.
I will get RLS occasionally, but if I exercise, it seems to keep it away.

Kate - I have been emailing back and forth with my sister on little things about the shower and it really does seem like "it's over and done with" as she stated in her email. But I did tell DH, that I'm sure when I see her, I will start crying. Just thinking about that, brings tears to my eyes. I so never wanted to hurt her - I know it isn't ALL my fault, but I do accept 75% + of the blame. So, thank you for the prayer - that always helps!
I am still a milk drinker - I love it! I only recently cut back a bit and have water with my evening meal. It seems like I'm hearing more and more people who are lactose intolerant. Good thing there are alternatives for so many people.
I hope you had a nice lunch and Bible study today. I hope the rain didn't interfere too much.

Have a great day!

Mema - glad you were able to post yesterday!
It's great that you have everything wrapped for your niece's shower Saturday. You're always so organized!
I also hope your niece will be feeling OK following the surgery, but I agree that the surgery is minimally invasive these days.
Is your DH staying home while you're away? I guess a shower would not be an appealing event for most guys.
How nice that your sister is on a lake, so you'll be able to swim when it's so hot.
Thanks for letting me know about that movie. I'll wait until it's available for streaming.
As Kate mentioned, molasses is a good source of iron. I'm always a little anemic when I have my blood checked, but it hasn't been enough that my doctor has done anything about it. I was feeling so weak, and even having trouble reading (!), so I took a big spoonful of the molasses yesterday, and a small one this morning, and do feel quite a bit better! I eat very little meat.

Kate - thanks for the suggestion about vitamin D. I take 2000 iu every day, but did take an extra one today. I also had eggs for dinner last night, so I think they helped too.
I haven't been a milk drinker since my early 20s, but I do have yogurt and cheese, and also half & half, every day, so I do get calcium from dairy, and also take a calcium/magnesium/vitamin D3 every night - it keeps me from having RLS during the night.
I guess your DD's family doesn't eat together a lot with those schedules!
I hope you have a good lunch with your friend!

We're finally getting a little warmer weather; tomorrow there will even be a humidex! It won't really be that hot (under 80 I think), but I should be able to dispense with my hoodie for the day.

I hope your days are going well.

Mema – the surgical techniques are so minimally invasive these days, the recovery can be quite quick. I hope she feels great for the shower. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Saying a little prayer that things go well w/ your sister and she remembers that she wanted to put aside her resentments during the shower and wedding.

There are lots of good vegetable sources of calcium: beans, seeds and the dark green leafy veggies. We think of milk first b/c of the massive advertising by the dairy industry. Except for white northern Europeans, most people can’t drink milk after they leave childhood. My kids became lactose intolerant by the time they were DGS’s age and he is showing signs of that, too. I don’t think he’ll be tolerating dairy much longer.

Leslie – with their different schedules, I don’t think they eat together very often. DD has to leave for work early so her BF gets DGS ready for school and takes him. Then he works from around noon until late at night. DD picks up DGS and makes dinner and puts him to bed.

If extra iron from the molasses doesn’t help, you may need more vitamin D. I know that most of us in the north country are low on it b/c of the lack of sunlight. Good food sources are fish like salmon, herring or tuna. Egg yolks and mushrooms are good sources, too.

DH needs the car to go up to the company office today so he’ll be doing the drop off and pick up at camp today. I’ll be home all day except for walking over to the church to meet w/ my friend for Bible study and lunch together. It’s going to be a rainy day but that’s OK since it won’t be cold.

I'm going to try and give this a shot this afternoon! I hope it was just the website.

Saturday night I had a terrible time falling asleep, so after church on Sunday I just went up to my bedroom and watched Netflix for most of the day. It was cloudy and on and off rain, so it was a good day for that. After supper, I wrapped all my prizes and gift for my niece's shower that is coming up this Saturday.

I got an email from my sister last night, that my niece is having her gall bladder out this morning! But she (my niece) said the shower is still on!! My DIL had her gall bladder out when Dakota was only 5 weeks old and I went down for a week to babysit while she recovered - fortunately, it is a fast recovery for a surgery.

I will start to get my stuff organized for packing for my sister's house. I will leave bright and early on Friday morning - it's a 3 1/2 hour drive for me. And then I will come back on Sunday. So, if you don't see a post from me for Friday and Saturday, you'll know why. It's going to be close to 90 degrees for those days and my sister lives on a lake, so I'm sure we'll go swimming at some point. Plus they have a boat so we'll probably go out in that, too!

Today it's been raining more than yesterday, but we do need the rain now. I'm just puttering around the house today.

Leslie - Unfortunately, A Star is Born is a DVD - not available on instant watch - yet. Maybe later on. I had Murder Mystery marked as a movie I wanted to watch, but maybe I won't waste my time.
I'm sorry you've been so exhausted the last couple of days. What does molasses do? Maybe I'll keep that in mind next time I feel so drained.

Kate - A gift card for your new pastor and wife is a good idea that Leslie had. I did that for my niece, but I wrapped the card in a large box with boxes inside that I put plastic flower planters inside. I bought her a gift card from Menard's (similar to Home Depot or Lowe's), so she has to open those before getting to the gift card!
For me personally I don't think I could be vegetarian - I think I love my meat too much! LOL Does DGS get enough protein from other things? I always worry that my grands get enough calcium since they weren't big milk drinkers, but when my DS was here last week, he seemed to be pushing more milk. They had taken the kids for their yearly check-up and I'm wondering if the doctor said something.
Nice that you will be helping out with snacks for your DGS (and your DD). I'm sure she appreciates that.

Well, I think whatever was going on either w/my computer or the website seems to be fixed. I was getting a big frustrated. I thought afterwards, I could have posted from my phone, but it's so much slower than with my computer and keyboard.

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm sorry you had trouble with the site - I hope I'll be able to post this.

Kate - It makes sense that your DD and her partner settled on vegetarianism for your DGS. Meals at their house must be a little complicated though!
It's wonderful that your DD is only going to provide the lunches while your DGS is going to camp. That must be a nice break for her, and it's good of you!
The early 60s is when I was in nursing school, so I remember it well too. I'll see if I can get Blast from the Past - it sounds good.
Good luck with all your meal planning and shopping! At least you have your fridge now.

I am still exhausted today. I'm always a bit anemic, but maybe I'm more so now. Of course I was feeling fine when I saw my doctor last week... I had to stay in this morning and not go to the exercise class. I don't feel sleepy, just totally drained. I'll take some molasses today and see if that helps.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – the site was very sluggish for me this morning – also getting the ‘unresponsive’ message. I had to close and reopen the site. They must be doing something on the SP site.

Leslie – I can understand why you got tired out w/ all the extra activity. Nice that you were able to pare down your shopping list so far. I loved “Blast from the Past”. I think b/c I can remember the early 60's so well. And the story was really sweet as well.

DGS’s dad is a vegan. Has been all his life as part of his family’s religious beliefs. DD tried vegetarianism in her teens but went back to eating meat. So when DGS was born they came to a compromise on how they let him eat. No meats or fish, but eggs and dairy are allowed.

My DD likes her marshmallows a bit burnt – but not too charred – like when the top just barely catches fire and gets blown out right away.

Today is the first day of summer camp. DD will be dropping DGS off here for some breakfast w/ Grandma before I drive him over to the YMCA camp. Then I really need to do some serious meal planning and shopping. DGS and DD will be having dinners here all summer long. And I told DD I would pack DGS’s morning and afternoon snacks so she only has to make his lunch.

OK, so this is the 3rd time in trying to post tonight. I don't know if it's my computer or the site, but I get so far and then it tells me the site is unresponsive, so I'm not going to type much tonight and will try again tomorrow. Sorry about that!

I have a new hard drive, so I'm not sure what is going on.

Have a good day!

My apologies for not posting yesterday. I'm not used to being so busy during a week, and it really seemed to catch up with me yesterday and I needed a couple of naps. I also ordered groceries and got my bill down to $100.97, including the $7 for the shopping and the delivery! I was impressed. However, I'll have to add several things I didn't get this time to my next shopping list.
The $800+ for the dentist, included the $203 I had paid for the cleaning and X-rays earlier in the month. My next scheduled appointment will be in March of next year. I go every 9 months for the cleaning.

Mema - I'm glad you've been having good weather! It's lovely here today, and supposedly in the mid-70s but I'm still cool enough that I'm wearing a hoodie.
Thanks for the tip on A Star is Born. Is that on Netflix? I watched Murder Mystery last night, with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, but it was disappointing - too disjointed. Somebody else recommended Blast From the Past, but I'm not sure if it's on Netflix. I'll be continuing to watch Queen of the South too - I'm enjoying it, thanks!
I'm really sorry about the cost for the tires you'll need for the truck! You are spending a lot on tires this year, but they should last a long time.
I'm glad you got your Egg Foo Yung, and how great to see the black bear just sitting on the roadside!

Kate - That's really a shame that TMJ is excluded from your DD's policy, but what a wonderful doctor she has, who has figured out a way to help! I know how frustrating it is to be just barely over the limit for receiving assistance.
I'm so glad you finally have your new fridge. It's great that you knew right away where to put things. The last time I got a new fridge, it was completely different from the one I'd had before, and I was shuffling things around in it for a few days. I'm sure the college student will be very happy to get the little fridge from you.
Will your DD be bringing your DGS to you in the mornings? I think it's wonderful that you'll be giving him breakfast and taking him to camp, then picking him up and giving him dinner! Does he take a lunch with him too? Has he been vegetarian all his life?
I'm really happy that you and DGS had such a wonderful time at the trampoline park! Good for you for jumping too, and doing a somersault. I can't imagine doing anything on it at all!
I'm glad you had a good late Father's Day! I'm glad the showers were very brief. Too bad I wasn't there to eat the burnt marshmallows - or is there someone in your family who also likes them? I always stick mine right into the flames until they catch on fire, and take a little time blowing them out - I love them like that!
I'm sure your pastor and his wife will be able to think of something they need - diapers are certainly always welcome - or a gift card to a store that sells baby stuff. Will you be attending the shower?

I'm off to do some reading. I was even so tired yesterday that I could hardly concentrate on a book.

I hope you're both having good days!

Mema – the insurance companies negotiate separate contracts with each employer for their health insurance. So the co-pays, deductibles, coverage, etc. can be very different depending on what company you work. Last year my DH and DD both had “United Health Care” but my DH’s coverage was much better and cheaper than my DD’s b/c his company is bigger and negotiated better terms.

Glad you got your Chinese food at the lunch prices. How cool to see a bear on your way home.

Leslie – hope you had a nice warm day finally.

The cookout was very nice. It was mostly sunny w/ some passing clouds blowing over. There were a couple of tiny showers that dropped a few raindrops and then ended in 10-15 minutes. We just sat through the first one.

DS’s GF had all the fixings for s’mores so we made some after lunch. DGS was excited to toast his own marshmallows but he kept looking around rather than paying attention to the stick and he ended up burning two of them.

Today after church there is a baby shower for our new pastor and his wife. They’re expecting their first child in September. I kept putting off getting a gift so I don’t have one. DH suggested we just tell them to look over their stuff and see what else they might need and let us know.

Well, DH and I went into town today. All went well and I did get my Egg Fu Yung at the Chinese buffet! We got there still in time for the lunch prices at 3:00. Dinner prices start at 3:30.

On the way home, we came around a curve and saw a big black bear just sitting on the side of the road! As we passed her, she scooted back into the woods. But it was pretty cool!

I was tired out, though all day today and I thought I slept well. I do have a swollen gland below my left ear, so that could be part of it. I'll take more ibuprofen before going to bed tonight.

My desktop computer is acting up. Not turning on all the way. I'll have to let DH know.

Kate - it's nice that you already know where things should go in your new frig.
I had no idea that insurance didn't cover TMJ. I wonder why??? But how wonderful of her doctor to figure out a solution for her. Very nice!
Weren't you brave on the trampoline! LOL Sounds like it was fun for both of you!
Glad that the weather turned out nice for your cook out and delayed celebration.
I've also had marshmallows fall off my roasting stick!

Leslie - hope you had a nice day!

Enjoy your Sunday!

Mema – have fun doing your shopping today. Hope you get your Egg Foo Yung. My mom used to make that for us when I was growing up.

I was wondering if you would take the two kids together. I expect having his big sister there would help w/ “missing” his parents. The first few times we took DGS he would cry when he talked to his mom in the evenings but was otherwise just fine being w/ us.

Nice to be back into a normal schedule. I’ll have to be starting up my “normal” summer schedule which is making breakfast for DGS and taking him to camp and picking him up in the afternoons for dinner here. I’ll need to do some meal planning and shopping over the next few days so I have vegetarian options.

Wow! I never thought about those big trucks needed two extra tires.

We use to have some hooded towels for DGS but they were small sized for toddlers. I finally had to toss them b/c they were worn out. These ones are beach towel size.

Leslie – glad you got your dental work done. That’s quite a list of things done. Glad you didn’t need to be numb on both sides. That’s a lot of money to spend on dental work. Hope you’re able to stretch your grocery money.

I did get my new fridge – it’s practically a clone of the older one so I already know where everything needs to go. I put all the new stuff I bought in there but haven’t emptied out the little one yet b/c I’ve been busy. I’ll do that this weekend and take the little one outside to let it defrost. We’re giving it to a collage student to use in the fall.

I need to empty out my tiny stand-alone freezer, too. I had that on my list of things to do before the big fridge failed so I was letting it empty out. That’s the only reason I had room in there to move the stuff from the fridge’s freezer into the little freezer.

The appointment for DD was kind of surprising. She's had this issue w/ her jaw dislocating and causing a lot of pain and further damage to that joint. Her company health insurance has a specific exclusion for treatment of TMJ (that's the joint that makes your jaw move) so she hasn't been able to get any treatment for it. Her PCP suggested going through neurology since she's got nerve damage there. The doctor said there wasn’t really any way she could diagnose it to get around the exclusion. She was surprised that a health insurance policy could make that kind of exclusion. And DD explained that she makes just a few hundred dollars a year too much to qualify for any additional policy through the state system. It’s such a frustration. Her only options are really to quit work and go on the state health plan or to find a new job that would have better health insurance.

When we were walking out to the car, the doctor called w/ an idea. They had discussed Botox injections in the muscles around the jaw which would help but not ‘indicated’ for her condition. The doctor said that she would list ‘chronic headaches’ in DD’s chart and she would go and get training to be able to do the shots correctly for DD’s condition. Then – anytime there was extra Botox available from someone else’s shots – she could call DD and do the shots for her. She can’t order Botox specifically for DD’s condition but she is allowed to use any left overs that way b/c it has a very short shelf life. I thought that was so great of her to go so far and above the call of duty.

After I drove DD back to her apartment to get her car and go to work, DGS and I came home. We went to the trampoline park and had a blast. I was the only adult out there jumping. We jumped and ran across the multiple trampolines. Some of the kids were doing tricks so I encouraged DGS to try some cartwheels. And I did a somersault. I thought about trying a cartwheel but was a bit too self-conscious. I haven’t done one since I was 50.

Today we’re celebrating a delayed Father’s Day. DS is having a cookout at his house. DD and DGS will come over, too. Fortunately the rain has ended and it should be a lovely dry, warm day.

Smores and marshmallows! The town birthday party was DGS’s first experience w/ smores and he loved them. Now he’s asking for more. I wonder if DS has any of the fixings left at his house from the last cookout he had? I’ll have to remember to ask. I always liked to toast mine a long time, very carefully so they were just barely brown but totally melted through. I had to be careful that they didn’t fall off the stick b/c they were so soft.

Kate - I hope everything went well with the driving this morning and then at your DD's appointment. I hope you were able to give moral support for your DD with her doctor. It is hard for some to speak up about what is going on or not going on with them and so it can be helpful to have someone along who can speak up if needed.

Leslie - I'm actually not a big fan of s'mores myself - I really prefer just to roast the marshmallows. But my DS was the only that wanted a s'more and told me I didn't need to bring all the stuff down if it was just for him, so I had one as well. My DGS and DGD had brownies instead of s'mores!
Wow - that's a lot of money you needed to spend on dental work! But I'm sure you're glad it's done now.
We've been having some nice weather the last few days. Pretty nice days, some sun/some clouds and cool evenings. We're supposed to get rain now over the next couple of days. We actually could use some rain now - the grass could use it.

I just finished watching "A Star is Born" - the newest re-make with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. It was very good I thought. I loved the re-make with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, but this one was good, too. I do like quite a few songs of Lady Gaga and she really did do a good job in the movie. I watched it up in my BR - DH wasn't too interested in it. LOL

I did get my laundry done today and my ironing - although this week I didn't have too much to iron. It was mainly some new items I ordered from Blair that I washed and those needed ironing. 3 t-shirts and 2 pair of dress pants.

DH found out that he needs to order new tires for the truck we have up here. It's a 1995 Dodge Diesel 1-ton dually pick-up and so 6 new tires for that is going to be $1138.00!!! Holy moly!! I guess the tires on there have over 75K miles on them and one was pretty bad. We have had to get a lot of tires on vehicles this year! We used to drive that truck back and forth to TX, but as it was getting older, there were a few repairs that needed to be done and so DH didn't want to take any chances of being on the road with it any longer. Besides, it has over 250K miles on it! But I guess diesel engines can go 350K or more. He does want to keep the truck if he needs to pick up lumber or any other big items - like we'll use it to pick up the riding lawn mower that he ordered, so things like that. But he was not very thrilled to have to order those tires with the cost so high. I don't blame him.

We were going to take the truck into Rice Lake tomorrow, but now we'll take one of our other cars.

Have a great day!!

Kate - I hope you were able to miss the worst of the traffic today. Did you go in with your DD for her appointment? It sounds as if she's lacking assertiveness about her health! If you were there, I hope you were able to speak up for her!
I hope your weekend will be great. How's your new fridge??

Mema - I understand your being glad to not have commitments - this has been a busy week for me, with appointments, so I'm happy to have a day 'off' today! You have been very busy too!
You got a lot of things done yesterday! I'm glad you talked to your aunt, and she was so supportive. It's good to have such a long chat with someone you like.
I'm glad you'll be going to the Chinese buffet in Rice Lake. I like Egg Foo Yung too, but haven't had it for a long time!
I'm sorry you don't like the black marshmallows like I do, lol. I really don't care for s'mores, but I do love those marshmallows!
I'm very glad to have that dental work over with! I have spent $836 this month, which leaves me a little short for groceries which I will order tomorrow. I will just get the things I really need for the next 2 weeks. I will highlight those things on my list for tomorrow, and try to keep the bill under $125. If necessary, I will order more groceries next week when I'll have my pension, but I hope I can wait my usual 2 weeks between orders.
It will be great for you to have your grandkids visiting this summer! I hope that goes well.
It is sunny here today, but still cool, in the 60s. It's supposed to be about 70 tomorrow, and even warmer on Sunday. I hope that will happen! I'm tired of all the cool weather. How is it in WI now?

I hope you're both having good days!

Checking in quickly this morning before driving into Boston to take DD to her specialist appointment. She tends to lose all her forcefulness when faced w/ a doctor and sit quietly and say things like “I’m fine.” I’m hoping we can get to the appointment before the worst of the traffic builds up.

I slept in a bit, but didn't get out of bed right away. It was nice to just lay there and check my phone! I've got about a week now with no appointments or anything, so I'm looking forward to just my "regular" schedule here at home. I've missed my Wed. meeting 2 times now, so I'm eager to get back to that, too.

I did get some things done today. Cleaned up around the house a bit, ironed my laundry from last week and then mowed the yard. That's always a big job. But now it looks so nice! And I called one of my aunt's today - actually she's the wife of my mom's brother, but she was also at the Ft. Snelling fiasco. So I told her my sister and I made amends. She was very glad about that and that I called to let her know. She said she did think my sister should also apologize but didn't think that would be coming. I told her I thought she was right. But I ended up talking with her for over an hour! Whew! That was a long time. She tends to chat on and on.

Tomorrow I'll do laundry and then on Saturday, DH and I are going to go shopping in Rice Lake. This time we'll eat at the Chinese buffet - we haven't been there in awhile and he loves that place. If we make it for their lunch, then they have Egg Foo Yung and that's my favorite, so we'll see.

Leslie - Yes, we made s'mores after our hot dog cook-out! One of my grand-daughter's on DH's side loves her marshmallows like you do! I want mine all nice and toasted brown - not black. I always give her a hard time about that! LOL
I had never heard of the BP standard of 100 + your age. Interesting. But I do think you're right about if the bottom number is good, it's not as serious.
I'm glad you didn't have to have your whole mouth numbed up - that would have been awful. But you did have a lot of work done. I'm glad you were able to get it all done in one appointment.
I'm glad you are enjoying Queen of the South - yes, it is very fast paced! And quite a bit of twists and turns, too!

Kate - This summer I will still just take Dakota by herself. I think Ryan would miss mommy and daddy too much yet. Next year I think I will take them both together first, then have him by himself and see how that goes.
Nice that you could get in a walk before your appointment. That "linear park" sounds very nice.
Those towels are great!! When I was selling Avon, they had some hooded towels for kids - the hoods were made up like cats or dogs or frogs and things. They were cute. And wonderful for kids. I'm sure your DGS will love those!
Were you able to get outside with your DGS today? I'm sure he'll enjoy the trampoline park tomorrow!
I hope your DD's appointment goes well tomorrow for her and I hope your rush hour traffic is not too bad!
Looked like you were pretty excited to get your frig today!!

Happy Friday!

Going to watch another episode of Queen of the South now.

Mema - good to hear from you, and I'm glad you had such a good time with your family. The hot dog cookout sounded wonderful - I used to love those! Did you roast marshmallows too? I love to let them catch fire, so they're black on the outside, and all melty inside.
There used to be an idea, years ago, that the top number (systolic) of one's BP should be 100 + one's age. By that standard, my BP is fine. As long as the bottom number (diastolic) was so good, I'm just not concerned. I was getting a little tired of sitting in the waiting room for so long, and felt as if I was melting into the chair! She took my BP near the end of my visit, so I don't think it was 'white coat syndrome'.
I survived the dental appointment this morning. I did get there early, but had to fill out a new health history form, which took a while because of all the meds I'm on, and by the time I was done, the dental assistant came and got me, also early. I had had a large filling fall out on the lower left, and I did need freezing before he worked on that tooth. On the right side, I had a broken upper tooth which he patched up, and a crown fell off a tooth on the lower right, so that just needed to be glued on again. I didn't need any freezing on the right side. The freezing is finally out of the left side - it was hard to drink from my water bottle, with my 'fat lip'!
I started watching Queen of the South last night - it is really fast-paced! I enjoyed it. Thanks for the tip! I was sorry Rectify was done though.
Did you sleep in today? You've had a lot going on since you've been back to WI!

Kate - I hope you've got your new fridge now! I'm sure that is very exciting, and I hope it works very well for you! I'm very happy for you!
I'm glad you were able to go for a walk while you waited for your appointment. I wish I could still do that. My doctor's office is right next to the harbour, and there are wide walkways along the shore.
I'm glad you got your shopping done, but that's too bad your DGS wasn't pleased about it. 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'!
Those towels are fantastic!
I'm sorry you have no transportation today. You probably needed to be home for the delivery of the fridge anyway.
I'm sorry you'll need to participate in rush hour tomorrow morning!
Is your DGS spending tonight or tomorrow night with you?

It's been raining all day here, and it's cool. The weekend is supposed to be nice, so I'm looking forward to that!

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – glad you had a good visit w/ your DS and kids. Will you have both of them stay w/ you on their own this summer? Or just Dakota?

Leslie – sorry your BP was so high but I’m glad the doctor wasn’t too concerned. Like Mema said, a lot of people do show up w/ high BP at the start of an appointment.

Hope your dentist appointment goes well. I don’t think I’ve ever had both sides done at once.

When my DH had to drop me off for my Dr. appt. on Tuesday I had an extra hour and a half to wait so I took a walk on the town’s “linear park”. It’s about 30 feet wide and 1.3 miles long. Just a nice path w/ trees, grass, and old-timey street lights along it. Occasionally a wider spot w/ a few benches. I still checked in for the appt. early and she called me in 15 minutes early so I was just finishing up when DH and DGS arrived to pick me up.

I did get my shopping done on the way home after picking up DGS. He wasn’t very pleased but it was short trip.

I have friend on another Spark Team who has a crafting business. Last winter she posted photos of towels w/ hoods for kids. They had faces like Harry Potter on the hood. I asked DGS if he’d like some and he said he wanted towels like rainbows and with a sun wearing “shades” instead of a face. I placed a special order w/ her and she just finished them. He swims every day at summer camp so these will be great.

DH has to go into the company office today so I'll be here w/ DGS and the dogs w/ no transportation. We'll go walking if the rain isn't too bad. They were talking about downpours. Trampoline park will have to wait for tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow my DD wants me to accompany her to a specialist appt. It's at 8 in the morning so I'll be up and out of here around 6 to pick her up and get her there. Ugh! Morning rush hour!

MY NEW FRIDGE IS COMING THIS MORNING.

It was a busy couple of days, but it was nice to have them here. Also nice when they leave, so I can rest up for the next time! emoticon It was too chilly to swim, but we did other things. And last night we had our hot dog cook-out by the fire and they loved that.

Leslie - I'm wondering if your BP went up with just the bus ride and waiting to get in to the doctor. I've heard also, people have "white coat" syndrome. Their BP goes up when they first get into the office, but then lowers after they've talked with the dr.
I'm sorry you'll have another appointment tomorrow. I don't think I've ever had both sides of my mouth numbed up, either. What is the dentist doing?

Kate - Up here, I mostly have to do exercise videos - like walking videos, just up in my BR. On the days I have laundry to do, I get quite a bit of exercise from going up and down the stairs to the basement and then from the first floor to second floor where my BR is. And mowing the lawn is a lot of exercise. Although, DH finally did order the new riding lawn mower. It will be in at the end of the month. I will try it out, but I'll continue to walk as long as I can.
You did have a lot of driving the other day going all across Boston. We had that same thing happen to us with our GPS when we were going down to stay with DH's daughter before the Ft. Snelling ceremony. It was telling us to turn when the road was closed due to construction. We were downtown Minneapolis at about rush hour time, so we were going in circles a couple of times trying to get to the right road!
I'm so glad it all went well for your DGS. That's probably good in two ways - if he ever would have to have another similar type procedure, he won't be scared and it took care of his pain so he felt good afterwards. That's funny how he said he felt like he was free! It's so interesting to listen to how kids talk sometimes.
I hope you have a good time with your sleep over with your DGS. Both my grands talked about coming to the "cabin" on their own. Dakota remembers last year and told me how much fun it was! That warmed my heart.

I think I will sleep in tomorrow! Or at least have a good night's sleep back in my own bed! LOL

Have a great day!

Sorry for not posting yesterday. It was the day my housekeeper was here, and I'm feeling a little frazzled today because I just got home from my doctor's appointment. My BP was 170/67. She wasn't concerned about the 170 - she said that if she changed medication, it might end up being too low, which could make me dizzy and put me at risk for falls.
I had to take the bus at 9:40 for my appointment which was at 11:10, but I didn't get in until about 11:30. I got quite a bit of reading done!
Tomorrow morning I need to take the 9:00 bus to the dentist for a later appointment, and I'm sure it will be a lengthy appointment. He's going to be working on both sides of my mouth - I've never had both sides frozen simultaneously before...

Mema - I hope you were having a good time with the kids yesterday!
I'm glad your BP was so good! And I'm glad you won't need meds!
It's good to know you don't have to bet a whole dollar at a crack!
My DS usually does speak at the conferences he attends. I forgot to ask what his topic is this time.

Kate - Wow, a 35-pound loss is wonderful! Congratulations.
I'm glad the oral surgery for your DGS went well! I'm glad it was a baby tooth.
You were doing a lot of driving around yesterday! I'm glad you didn't have to worry about the dogs too.
I'm sorry about all of the construction, and your GPS not being up-to-date with all the road closures. I hope the driving today goes well. Can you do the shopping on the way home? I'm sorry about the predicted rainy weather for the next two days. It's supposed to start raining here at any time, and continue overnight and maybe tomorrow too. Friday and the weekend are supposed to be nice.
Your DGS is lucky to have you providing such good entertainment!

I hope you're both having good days.

We did well on our driving adventures yesterday. The biggest hassle was the road construction going on just about everywhere. There was one point when the GPS was telling us to turn left and the next 3 streets were closed due to construction. The 4th street was one way toward us. Fortunately we were in a part of the town where there was a grid pattern so turning on the 5th street worked out. Very little of our part of the country uses a grid pattern so that’s not always the case.

Today we will be doing another mid-day run to Boston to pick up DGS when school lets out – his last day. I’ll need to go grocery shopping sometime today b/c I don’t have anything to cook for dinner tonight. Then Thursday and Friday he’ll be here all day. I promised him a sleep over and a trip to the trampoline park. I was hoping to do the trampoline tomorrow but DH may need the car that day. Too bad the weather is supposed to be rainy both days so the park won’t be an option. Summer camp starts on Monday.

Thanks for the compliments on the photo. I took it b/c it shows my new blue framed glasses. When they came the first time, the line for the bifocal was in the wrong place and I had to send them back to be re-made. They finally came back a week or so ago. I looked back at my records and the old photo was from summer 2016. I was about 35 pounds heavier then. Maybe when I get to my goal, I’ll take another one. LOL. I hate selfies.

Leslie – nice that you got a good chat w/ your DS. Hope he has a great time in Spain.

How great that your sister has arranged for you to be able to get to her wedding. And you get to spend a few days w/ her, as well.

Mema – great news that you’re bringing down your BP on your own. I take fish oil b/c it’s supposed to help w/ depression and blood triglycerides. I hadn’t heard it could help blood pressure, too.

What kind of exercise do you do when you’re so isolated up there? I don’t think you have a gym or fitness center close to you.

Have a great time w/ your family.

DGS did very well w/ the procedure. We were out of there in less than an hour. He told me afterwards that he felt like he was “free”. He had been worrying so much about having the tooth out. And he was surprised how quickly the “stinky gas” knocked him out. It was a baby molar they took out. The adult tooth was coming in crooked and not coming right down the same track as the baby tooth. So the roots weren’t dissolving like they usually do for baby teeth.

Today we’ll drive south of Boston to pick up something for DD and then DH will drop me at a doctor’s appointment just north of Boston. While I’m there, he will drive cross town to East Boston to pick up DGS after school. They have early release today and there is no after school program. Then they will come back and pick me up from the doctor’s office and we’ll head home. I figure there is going to be at least 2 ½ hours of driving all together. I just hope the traffic isn’t too bad. At least we’ll avoid the worst of the rush hours morning and evening.

I told DS last week that it would be better if he puts the dogs in day care today. So this week they will be here Wed - Friday instead of their usual Mon - Thursday.

Went to my dr. appt. this morning and when the nurse took my BP it was 132/62!! emoticon It had been slowly coming down since I first went so no medication needed. She said I could add Fish Oil. I had been taking it, but DH's dr. said it wasn't proven any more to help with joints so I stopped taking it, but I did find it's good for BP, so I'll start that again. She said for me to just keep taking my BP at home once every 2 weeks and monitor it. And she said to exercise. So good news!

I was moving today - after I got home I made a pan of brownies, fried up some bacon for my egg bake that I made for tomorrow, tidied up my bedroom a bit and put up the cot, changed sheets on my bed and just seemed like I was busy all afternoon. Lots of clean up in the kitchen between all the cooking.

I probably won't post tomorrow night with the kids here. My computer is in my BR and so it will be hard for me to post before they go to bed. But I'll be back on Wednesday!

Leslie - I'll have to see if I can get Heartland - I think I've seen ads for it and it does look good. I've also thought about Good Girls - I like the women actors they have on there and it looks like it could be a "fun" one to watch.
Oh, and even tho' you put a dollar bill or a five dollar bill in the machine, you don't have to bet the whole thing. I'm always on machines where I can start with a nickel and go up from there! No, I could not bet dollars at a time either!
I hope your DS had a good flight over to Spain and a good conference. Is he speaking?
How nice that you will be able to go to your sister's wedding!!

Kate - How is DGS? I hope everything went well with his surgery. Poor little guy!
Your DGS's camp sounds like it's a fun place for the kids. Nice that they offer that.
I'm sure it was easier for you w/out the dogs today.
I thought you looked much thinner in your new picture, too! Good for you!

Have a great day!

Mema - Glad your internet is working again! I'm fortunate here that I very rarely have any problems.
How great that your DS will be coming with the kids for a couple of days! I guess however they like to use the room is the right way for them. It's good of you to give up your room.
I hope your appointment with your doctor goes well. I agree with Kate that you need to let her know what you want to try before starting any medication. It's your body, and you make the final decisions about treatment.
I'm glad you had a good visit with DH's daughter and family. One of my grandsons also roared through all the Harry Potter books - I don't remember how old he was at the time, but I love it when kids are readers. I always give my DGSs books for their birthdays, and at Christmas I send an Amazon gift card for the family, so they can choose their own gifts.
I'll have to see if I can get Queen of the South on Netflix. It does sound interesting. I'm sorry Rectify hasn't grabbed you yet. I'm in season 4, which I think is the last season. I think each season is better than the one before. The one I watched a couple of nights ago had me in tears. I've also been watching Good Girls, which is sort of silly, but fun, and I've watched a couple of episodes of High Seas, which I'm on the fence about. I've also been watching Shtisel, which takes place in Jerusalem, and that one has sub-titles, but I'm enjoying it. It's about an ultra-Orthodox Jewish family. And, once a week I usually watch an episode of Heartland. I think I'm in season 10 of that. It's a Canadian show, which takes place in Alberta, about a horse farm, and the family who live there. It's pretty good.
As I said, I haven't gambled since I was last in Vegas in 1990, so it may all be paper money there too. I'd hate to be betting $1 on each try at the slots, and you're right about the fun of hearing all the coins when you have a win! I'm sure it is cleaner and safer with the paper money, but gambling really isn't all that appealing to me. I do remember how filthy my hands would get at the slots!
I'm glad you were able to talk to your DS yesterday. Mine called me back too so we had a good chat. He was going to be leaving for Spain this morning for a week there at a conference.

Kate - how is your DGS? That sounds very painful. Is it a 'baby' tooth he's having extracted? I hope the bleeding stops quickly, and I'm sure you know that he shouldn't use straws to drink with following the extraction. Is he having a lot of pain?
Oh, I noticed your new photo earlier this morning - I like it! Have you continued to lose weight? Your face looks thinner in this picture!
I'm really sorry your DGS didn't like the outdoor Y camp, but where he's going sounds like a lot of fun too! I would also have chosen the STEM track. It sounds good. I am so looking forward to seeing the big birds at the library, in less than a month! I still have to arrange for my bus ride to get there.
I don't think that I've mentioned talking to my sister about getting to her wedding in July. She has friends who live about half an hour south of here who will be going. I will need to take a taxi to meet them that morning. My sister will reimburse me for the taxi fare. I will have to spend 3 nights down there until my sister and her new husband will be driving me home, so I'm very glad I'll be able to go.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – glad your internet is up and running again. How nice that you’ll have your DS and grand kids there for a few days.

You know you don’t “have to” take medication if you decide to work on life style a bit longer. You can just tell the doctor you want to do that.

Our church service is at 10:45 from Labor day to mid June. The Sunday school classes meet at 9:30. My DH goes over early b/c the music practice is during that hour. I usually take my time, have a leisurely breakfast and read the Sunday paper before going over around 10:30.

Leslie – there is an outdoor Y camp here, too. It’s out at a lake and is a typical summer camp w/ archery and things like that. DGS went there one week in his first year of camp, but he says the lake has “weeds and fish” and the bathrooms are stinky. LOL! That’s what happens when you’re raised by a neat freak like my DD.

The camp he goes to uses the rooms that the preschool and afterschool programs use during the school year. They spend time in the gym, outdoors and in the pool every day but they also do projects in the rooms. There are 3 “tracks”: arts and crafts, sports, and STEM. (Science, technology, engineering and math) He does the last one. They have a different topic each week – weather, dinosaurs, bridge building, outer space, etc.

Today, DGS has his oral surgery to remove an impacted tooth w/ an abscess. DD will drop him off first thing and then I'll take him to the surgery. The rest of the day will be caring for him. Not sure how much pain he'll be in.

DS said he's working from home today so he's going to keep the dogs home w/ him. That will make it an easier day for me. I can just concentrate on DGS.

Not sure what was going on with our internet last night. DH is pretty good about getting it back for us, but he said it must have been something on the other end. It came back in the middle of the night, I guess. I do have a limited amount of data on my phone, but I like to save that in case of an emergency and I have to check something.

I had 2 busy days doing cleaning, laundry, picking up large pine branches that DH trimmed, and then getting my room ready because my DS and the 2 grands are coming up tomorrow night thru Wednesday. I give them my room (double bed) and then a cot. Usually DS ends up on the cot! LOL I've told him to have both the kids sleep feet to feet on the cot and then he could have the bed, but he says it's easier his way. Up to him, I guess!

Tomorrow I have my dr. appt. about my BP - seems like the last several days now, it's been going down a bit. Not sure why, but I'm glad about that. Hopefully she'll be in agreement about the exercising and healthier eating so I can hold off on any meds.

DH's daughter and family stopped over for a bit today. We had a nice visit. The one grandson who's 9 is on his last book of seven of the Harry Potter series - the books he's reading are about 300 pages each and they are large hard cover books!! He absolutely loves reading, so I'm very glad about that. His mom says he'll sit down for 3 hours and just read. She says, she actually has to tell him to go outside and play! They go to the library often at their house.

Leslie - I started watching "Queen of the South" on Netflix. It's about a woman who becomes a drug lord. Quite interesting so far. The setting goes between Mexico and Texas (Dallas). I had started watching Rectify - I was on season 2 episode 4, but never got back to it. It was a bit odd in parts to me, but interesting I thought. I may have to go back and see if I can get into it again.
I'm not sure about Vegas, but all the casinos around here now don't accept change. Paper money only or if you win and collect your winnings, they issue a ticket and then you can cash that in for cash or put it into the next machine. I will say this, it's much cleaner on your hands! I remember my hands getting so dirty from handling all those coins! It's not as much fun as when you would hear all the clanking of coins coming out when you won, but I suppose it's cleaner and probably safer, too. No one is walking around with buckets of money!
I texted my DS this morning to have a Happy Father's Day and then I did talk with him this evening. He called me on his way home from his meeting. He had a nice, quiet day. He said they took the kids to a local carnival and I guess there was a parade going down the main part of town, so the carnival itself was pretty empty, so no long lines for rides for the kids. He said it was actually pretty nice.

Kate - That is great that any produce not picked up goes to the food pantry. So it's not getting wasted or thrown away.
Our church up here starts at 9:30 year round and the one in TX starts at 9:00 year round, but because of the farther distance up here, we end up leaving about the same time for the whole year. That helps when I forget what time the services are when we are going back and forth! LOL
It was supposed to be cool and possible rain here today, but turned out to be a nice day, actually. Only in the low 70's, but nicer than was predicted, so that was good.
So sorry to hear about your DGS's tooth! Ouch! That must be painful. I hope it all goes well tomorrow for him. And nice that he can be there with you - hopefully he'll feel much better.

Enjoy your Monday!

Mema - sorry about your internet troubles yesterday. Glad you got it back.

Kate - My kids used to go to a 'Y' camp for a couple of weeks in the summer. They would be picked up by bus in town and driven out to the camp on a lake. They would have one overnight there. They really loved it. They had lots of sports and one summer I gave permission for my daughter to take riding lessons there. I'm glad your DGS's camp will be so convenient for you!

This will be a quiet day for me. I tried to call my son to wish him Happy Father's Day, but had to leave a message. I know he's going to Spain for a speaking engagement, but I'm not sure when he was going to be leaving for that.

I hope you both have good days!

Our internet was down last night and DH couldn't get it fixed, so we thought it must have been on the other end. I couldn't post last night but will today! Sorry about that.

Leslie - the summer camp is at the YMCA. It's about a 5 min drive and I can stay and exercise after I drop him off so it's really convenient.

Early church today so I have to get moving quicker than I usually do on Sunday.

Mema - your gambling sounds a lot like mine. I don't go to any casinos around here, but when I'm in Las Vegas, I usually have about $50 in quarters for the slots. I've never had a big win, but enough small ones that I can keep going for a couple of hours with the $50. I don't think I've been there since 1990 when I got an annulment from a disastrous 'marriage' that wasn't legal.
I'm very glad that your sister has accepted your amends, but it does sound as if she has more resentments!
That possible job for your step-daughter sounds very good, but she also has an excellent attitude about it. I'm sure it will work out the way it's supposed to.
We're getting more rain today, and it's cool, but our heat has not been cut off yet. Maybe that will happen Monday.
I'm not sure if I told you about a wonderful show on Netflix called Rectify. It's about a man who spent about 20 years on Death Row, and how he adjusts, or doesn't, when he's released. I really love it!

Kate - I'm sorry that you missed your chance at getting the produce, but you're right to be happy it goes to others who can use it!
We're getting a rainy day today. I don't need the long johns yet.
It's good of you to keep the dogs for your DS today.
I like the earlier church services too, so it doesn't cut into the day so much.
I'm really sorry about your DGS's abscessed tooth. That sounds painful. I'm glad it will be dealt with on Monday. Does he have antibiotics?
I'm glad you'll soon be on the summer schedule. Is his camp close to you?

I hope you both have good days.

Mema – so glad that your sister accepted your amends. Although it sounds like she’s still carrying a lot of a grudge. At least she’s called a truce for the shower and wedding so it will be more comfortable for the family.

Best wishes for your step DD. That does sound like an exciting possibility for a job. It’s nice, too, that she’s OK either way.

If someone forgets to pick up their produce at the delivery site, it’s donated to the local food pantry so I didn’t get mine this week but some people in need got something nice added to their bags. It doesn’t go to waste.

Leslie – I just packed up my long johns for the summer. I am still keeping my long sleeve shirts out just in case we have some more chilly days.

Nice that you got a sunny day when you were expecting rain.

We’re having lovely warm sunny weather today. We’ll have DGS here for a bit longer after his swim lesson this morning and my DS is dropping off the dogs b/c he and his GF have out of town friends visiting and they’re spending the day in Boston. This is the final weekend of the town’s birthday celebration. There will be lots of stuff going on in the afternoon and fireworks tonight.

Sunday - Father's day - will be a bit rainy. The kids are going to do something w/ DH on the following weekend so it will just be an ordinary day. Our church switches to their summer schedule meeting at 9:30. It's nice to be done early during the summer. They used to do this b/c it got so hot later in the day and none of the churches were air conditioned. Now it's just out of habit but people do like to be free for most of the day on Sunday.

DGS has an abscessed tooth. It’s been drained twice but isn’t healing. DD took him to see the oral surgeon yesterday but they ran late and couldn’t do the surgery. It’s re-scheduled for Monday morning. DD will drop him off on her way to work and I’ll take him to the procedure. He’ll be here all day recovering.

Then Tuesday and Wednesday are his last two days of school and he has early release so we’ll be picking him up from school those days. Thursday and Friday he’ll be here just hanging out. Summer camp starts next Monday so we’ll be back on our usual summer schedule. DD drops him off, we feed him breakfast, take him to camp, pick him up and feed him dinner and then hand him back to DD.

I did get my house cleaned today. That was my exercise since I was scrubbing bathrooms and floors and then my DH took me to the casino for the Fish Fry and a little bit of gambling. I started out with $21.00 and came home with $13.00 for an hour and a half of gambling, so that wasn't too bad! I wasn't betting a lot at a time, but kept winning here and there.

Tomorrow I will get my laundry done. And on Sunday, DH's daughter and family will come over. She's being interviewed for Director of Water and Sewer for the city of Minneapolis! That's a big job! She's the one who has her PhD in Civil Engineering and Master's in Environmental Engineering or maybe it's the other way around - hard for me to remember. So that's exciting for her. I guess the 3 month process is down to her and one other person. If she is offered the job, she said she will take it. She was told about the job by a friend who had the job previously and this woman said DD would be perfect for it. So it wasn't like she was looking to get a new job. But she's good either way.

I did get an email back from my sister and she accepted my apology, but she gave me a long laundry list of things she has been mad at me for since about 10 years ago. She's carrying a lot of baggage and I feel badly for her. But the main thing is she said this issue is over and done and didn't want it to interfere with her daughter's upcoming shower and wedding.

Leslie - I'm glad you have a heavy wool blanket that you can use "just in case". I'm sure it is very warm. Last fall when we stayed here a little bit later, I was wearing the bottoms of long johns! My DH was keeping the house on the "cool-ish" side to save on propane and it was a cool, rainy fall.
We had rain most of the morning here, but then the sun came out. It wasn't as warm, though today.
I hope you got in some good reading!

Kate - emoticon for the link to the article on BP. I got a lot of good info from it!
Were you able to pick up your produce today?

Hope you both have a great Saturday!

Mema - I'm glad your BP measurements are so close to the ones the nurse got. Working with diet (reducing sodium) and exercise can really help to get or maintain a healthy BP. I hope your doctor will be willing to let you try that before you go on medication.
I've also never collected grass seed to use. I hope that will be successful for you.
P & G was also a factory in Hamilton, Ontario. It may have had a union later on, but not in the 50s. My dad was in management.
I don't have an electric blanket, but I do have a good heavy wool blanket that I use in the winter, so if it's cold after the heat is turned off, I'll put that on my bed. It was in the low 40s here this morning, and the high temp will be in low 60s. I may also be wearing long johns, the full set!

Kate - I'm sorry you forgot your produce! I hope you can get it today.
I did check into getting dental insurance, but the cost was prohibitive. In a normal year, I spend $200 -300 on dental care, but this year is obviously more expensive. It's still less than the cost of the insurance though.

I hope you're both having good days! I've just been trying to catch up with emails, and soon I will be reading. The sun is out, but it was supposed to rain!

Mema – I never tried harvesting seeds from grass and reusing it.

Good to know that your BP machine is accurate and matches the nurses’ tests. I hope you can get yours down w/o medications. I’ve had a lot of friends who really didn’t like the side effects of the medications.

Exercise is certainly one of the best ways to lower blood pressure naturally and there are some other things you can try, too.

Leslie – we’ve been talking about whether we should pay extra for dental insurance after my DH retires. He says it will cost about $1000/ per year and the maximum benefit is only $2000. I told him that since I have used the maximum every year for the last 3 years, it probably makes sense for me to get it even if he doesn’t. Or maybe I’ll get it every other year and have any major work done on those years. LOL.

I felt very foolish last night when I realized I hadn't gone out to pick up the veggie delivery. It was pouring rain and I had the dogs in and out a couple of times but just totally forgot I was supposed to go out to the library and the CSA pick-up.

Went for my BP check and compared the nurse's results with my home machine and they were pretty close. The nurse said I had a good unit and said to continue to take my pressure at home. It was still a bit high, but she said it wasn't in the dangerous category. She said to make an appt. with my dr., so I have that on Monday morning. I am going to ask her if I can start an exercise program and anything else she might suggest before going on any medication. The nurse seemed to think if my dr. was going to put me on anything, that it would be a very low dose of "something", so if that is the case I'd like to see if I can do something myself first and continue monitoring my BP at home and then come back to see her in 2, 3, 4 weeks or whatever time frame she would want. I was doing well in exercising, but the last year I kind of fell away from it (other than the Zumba I did last winter) and just haven't gotten back to it. But with my BP being high, it will give me the motivation to start again.

Our grass is "going to seed" in spots, so I stripped a bunch of the seeds to keep and dry out and then use them on some of the bare spots in the yard. The soil up here is mostly sand, so it's hard sometimes to get grass seed to grow and since this grass is growing and seeding I can use those seeds to replant. So I did that for an hour today. Got in some exercise plus the fresh air!

Tomorrow I will probably clean and/or do laundry. DH's son and family were supposed to come up this weekend, but they had to change their plans, but DH's middle daughter is going to stop by sometime this weekend.

Leslie - My DS was impressed by the amount of time it took for all of those photos. I'm also very glad he appreciated it.
The Gillette plant in St. Paul that my DH worked at did have a union because it was basically a factory with shipping, warehousing, line work, mechanics, etc. so they were unionized, but DH worked very well with the union stewards.
I hope once your heat is turned off, it stays warm for you. Do you have an electric blanket or a down comforter for your bed if it gets too chilly? It got down to 40 degrees here last night. DH turned the heat on, but I don't think it actually went on during the night. Today was a lovely day - sunny and about 70 degrees here.

Kate - Glad you had a good time at your cook-out. I know when someone actually points out a time frame of many years, it's sometimes hard to believe it's been that long! Does make one feel old "er". LOL
What type of produce did you get from the farm?

Happy Friday!

Mema - welcome back! I'm really glad you had such a good time with your family, and also with your DIL's family! I wasn't surprised you weren't posting here - kids are wonderful but can be quite exhausting. I'm glad you had such fun with them for those 2 days.
I'm really glad your DS is so happy with the photo albums! I'm sure he was impressed with all your work. I hope I can get to my photos by the fall or winter. I first need to gather them up from all the places they are, in shoeboxes, drawers, my trunk, and sort of all over my bedroom.
I'm sorry you weren't able to get a picture of that wreath, but I'm glad you went, and your DS went too.
I'm glad you'll be getting your BP checked today, and you probably will be seeing your doctor if it's been elevated.
Thank you for the condolences. A lot of my exhaustion came from getting up at 12:30 AM that day, so it was a long day. I hope your niece had a happy birthday!
My dad worked for Procter & Gamble from the time he returned from WWII until he died in 1968. It always treated its employees very well! The employees there didn't need a union because they were being treated so well. You're very lucky to have dental coverage! I am having an expensive month at my dentist, over $200 last week for the cleaning and X-rays, and I go back next week for 3 repairs, so that will probably be around $300.

Kate - I'm glad you enjoyed the cookout with some 'old' friends. 50 years ago I was getting ready to give birth to my DS!
I hope your time at the gym was good today!
I wonder what produce you'll get today? Where do you have to go to pick it up? I know you'll be glad to have your fridge next week!

It was very rainy here all morning but now it's just cloudy. It's still nice and warm in my apartment, but I'll have to see how it will be when the heat gets shut off Saturday.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – glad you had a great time w/ the grandkids and w/ your DS. I can imagine all that activity left you tired out at night.

Too bad you didn’t get a photo of the flowers.

It’s nice that all your work on the photos was so much appreciated.

Leslie – glad you’re feeling better. Nice that you have some warm weather and a new book. A hug is always best delivered in person – glad you got one from your library volunteer.

We had a nice time last night at the cookout w/ friends. It was good catching up w/ people we knew back in our 20’s. Someone got to talking about time spent in different areas and I realized that my DH came to the Boston area 50 years ago this September and I came a year later. Woah! Made me feel old all of a sudden. Ah, well! I'll head to the gym today for heavy weights and strength training. That always makes me feel better.

Today is the day for our first fresh produce pick up from the farm. They sent out an email saying that the first week will be rather small because the crops are ripening slowly due to the rainy spring. That will work out well for us being w/o a fridge. By the time everything starts to ripen in a few weeks we’ll be able to deal w/ it.

So sorry I was AWOL for a few days. I had really planned on posting - brought my tablet with me, but by the time the evening came and I visited with my DS and DIL, I was bushed and just wanted to go to bed! But we had a ball - me and the kids. Sunday evening my DS and family were invited to my DIL's aunts house for a b-day celebration so I went along with them. I know my DIL's mom and aunt and her family pretty well now. I jokingly told them I see more of them than my own relatives! They all laughed - it was a fun evening. DS had a graduation open house to go to, so he met me, DIL and kids over at the aunt's house. Monday was really a nice day, so we went to a new park and they had a good time. Tuesday was cooler so we stayed home and played.

When I was driving down on Sunday, I stopped at Ft. Snelling to take a picture of the wreath - the rain did hold off, but the flowers were not there. So, I'm guessing my sister took them home with her. That was too bad because they were beautiful and it would have been nice to get a picture. I did get a picture of the temporary marker anyway. And I was able to say my good-bye to my mom and dad because I wasn't able to at the service on Friday. My DS also stopped at Ft. Snelling on Sunday, it was after me since he was at that open house. I thought that was very thoughtful of him to do that.

He also loved all the pictures that I did for him. I gave them to him on Monday evening. He didn't go thru ALL of the albums, but quite a few and DIL was also looking at different albums. So he appreciated all the time I put into it. That evening for supper, he made me a walleye dinner - it was VERY good!

Tomorrow I go back to the clinic to get my BP checked - I got my own machine and have been taking my BP over the last few days and it's still high. I'm sure I will have to make an appt. with my dr. after tomorrow.

Leslie - emoticon I am so sorry for your loss - my niece's birthday is on the 11th. I'm sure that was an exhausting day for you.
I'm glad you were having a warm day finally! I hope it continue's for you!
I could stand to lose a good 10 lbs. myself, but I'd be happy with 5-7, but I haven't been trying too hard to do that, so I guess I can't complain. But I do know I'll have to get back to exercising soon. I just haven't put my mind to it. Maybe it's just been too busy since we got home.

Kate - When your DH retire's, will they offer healthcare to him or both of you? My DH was able to get health insurance from his company when he retired and when Proctor and Gamble bought Gillette, then he was able to get me on his policy as well. He's got Medicare, too and so that is his primary, but United Healthcare is his secondary. And ours also includes dental, which most companies don't provide, so we are very fortunate.
I'm sorry you have such a long wait on your new frig. That's good that you can suspend your meat delivery.

Hope you both have a great day!

emoticon

Mema - I know you're having a good day with the kids!

Kate - it's cleared up here, but cooler again.

This is the anniversary of my daughter's death, so I'll be brief. My son called earlier - it was very good to hear from him.

I'm sorry you'll end up paying more for health insurance. I am so grateful I don't have to pay anything here. Has your DH decided when he'll retire?

Now I just want to get on the couch with my books.

Enjoy the day!

Mema – have fun w/ the grandkids.

Leslie – we got rain overnight and it’s still raining right now but they say it should clear out before the end of the day. I did get more weeding done yesterday afternoon while the weather was good.

Nice that you can get to your exercise classes. Hope your reading time goes well. I ordered the last two books for our summer trip from the interlibrary loan.

We spent a few hours last evening listening to an informational meeting about Medicare. It seems clear we'll be spending more on health insurance once DH retires. I'm so grateful we've always worked for companies that provided good health care as part of their benefits.

Mema - I hope you're enjoying your time with your grandkids!

Kate - I understand people wanting to be out to enjoy the spring weather! It was lovely here yesterday, but raining today. It's still warm though, so I appreciate that.

The meat you get sounds very good. I like the fact that its is ethical and sustainable. I don't know if there's a place like that around here, but because I eat so little meat, and also have little freezer space, I'm sure it wouldn't be worthwhile for me. The stew I made yesterday, with half a pound of stewing beef, will last me another 2 or 3 meals - it's mostly vegetables.

I still have the same 10-15 pounds to lose, but I haven't been making much effort to cut back on things. I'm sure I eat too many carbs, but there's not much I want to eliminate, if anything. Oh well, at least I'm not gaining any more.

I went to the exercise class this morning, and I've been trying to catch up to things online, but I'm eager to get to my books soon!

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – glad you finally got some nice warm weather.

I think the traffic was just bad b/c there are so many things going on in June – graduations, weddings, students moving in and out of the city. Of course the weather was so lovely after such a rainy spring that a lot of people were itching to get out to the shore, mountains, or lakes.

I get my meat delivered once a month from a New England farmers co-op. All locally, ethically, sustainably grown. I read “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” by Michael Pollen and realized that since I want to keep eating meat, I needed to change the type I bought as well as cutting down on the amount we eat. It’s a lot more expensive than factory farmed meat, but we have the ability to pay for it and I like the idea that we’re supporting local farmers who are trying to do this food thing the right way.

Mema – hope you have a lovely time w/ your grandkids. I’m glad you got all your amends made before you left so you can let go of the upset and focus on the present moments – precious ones.

Weight was the same for me as last week. Not surprising after eating out 3 times over the weekend. We’ll be eating out again tonight. We have an informational meeting on Medicare options – just in case DH decides to retire sometime soon. It’s right through dinner time so we’ll be picking up something quick across the street from the medical building where the meeting is being held.

I do need to go out and pick up some fresh veggies and fruit at the grocery today.

Mema - I'm glad you've made your amends. I hope your sister and niece will accept them graciously. It's good that your DH thought they were good; it's always great to get another opinion.
Getting a picture today of the wreath and marker will be good too. I hope you have good weather for doing that today.
It's actually 25C here today, finally; I think that's about mid-70s which is what I've been waiting for! I hope it will stay warm now.
I'm sure your DS will appreciate all those pictures!
I'm so happy for you that you'll be spending time with Dakota and Ryan, for 2 full days!

Kate - I only have one dress, a summery floral print, with big flowers. I wore it to my wedding in 2001; I got it in 1991 for my son's graduation from Brown, but I think those are the only two occasions I've worn it. I also have a black jumper that I've worn a few times for funerals.
I'm sure I've read something by Gerald Jampolsky - the name is very familiar. Enjoy your mystery series.
I'm sorry your DGS was tired and quiet, and didn't have much of an appetite yesterday. I love taco salads!
What was going on there yesterday that caused the traffic to be so bad? I would also rather be driving slowly through towns, than creeping along the highway.
How nice that you went out to dinner last night! And the cookout after church today sounds good too. Did you need to bring something for that?
I'm glad you have a date for delivery of your new fridge, and I'm glad you were able to postpone delivery of the meat. I forget what meat you have delivered? I'm sure you'll be able to use up what you have in your little freezer.
I am just having a quiet day, and hope to do lots of reading this afternoon. I may even have a glass of iced tea this afternoon, for the first time this spring!

I hope your days are going well!

Leslie – I wear pants a lot more than dresses now but it’s nice to occasionally change things up. I think I own about 6 dresses – most of them for summer.

I’m reading through an old mystery series by Charlotte MacLeod. She has a couple of different series w/ different characters. And I’m reading “Love is Letting Go of Fear” by Gerald Jampolsky. A friend recommended it.

Sorry about the time you felt so hurt by your grandsons being more interested in your sister. Our feelings can be intense even when our minds tell us that no one is doing anything wrong.

Mema – hope your sister can find her way through to forgiving you and letting it go. Hope you are able to get a good photo of the flowers and send it to her. Meanwhile, enjoy your time w/ your grandkids. That should raise your spirits.

DGS was tired and quiet yesterday. After swim class he said he wasn’t very hungry so he just had a snack from the vending machine instead of going out to lunch. After I dropped him off at home, I was hungry so I stopped and got a taco salad at Wendy’s.

The traffic was simply insane everywhere yesterday so I skipped the highway and just meandered through all the little towns to get home. It’s not any shorter timewise but I’d rather be driving slowly through towns than creeping slowly along the highway. I stopped on the way home to pick up a few things at the grocery store so it was almost 4 by the time I got home. I just played some computer games until the meeting was over.

I told DH that it would be a good idea to go out to dinner b/c we would both be tired from our long day. I’m glad I did. It was a nice evening out for us both. Today after church there is a cookout in honor of all the graduates so I don’t need to make lunch today either.

They called about delivering the new fridge. They suggested the 18th or 19th but both of those days are half days for DGS and we have to drive into Boston to pick him up early. So we’ll be getting the new fridge on the 20th.

Meanwhile I had to postpone my monthly delivery of meat so we’re using up what ever I can find in my little freezer. Time to get creative.

I made my amends to my sister and my niece (by email). I haven't heard anything, but I wasn't expecting to, either. That's all I can do for now. I blind copied my DH on the emails and he said they were very good - thorough inventory, honesty, amends w/out expectation. My sister has never had any type of counseling or gone to any type of 12 step program (she has a severe eating disorder as well as her daughter), so I know this must be extremely hard for both of them.

I'm going to stop at Ft. Snelling Cemetery on my way to my DS's house tomorrow. They have a temporary marker for my mom and dad and the wreath of flowers that my sister bought will also be there. I want to get a picture of that for sure. Although it's supposed to rain most of the day tomorrow, so I'll have to see if I can get a decent picture.

I got my laundry done and I'm also bringing down all the boxes of pictures for my DS. I will give those to him as a sort of Father's Day gift.

Leslie - thank you for sharing your story. I think I felt worse today about what happened yesterday than I did yesterday. Maybe it just sunk in a little more.
I'm very excited to be able to spend a couple of full days with Dakota and Ryan. It will be my first "real" visit since we got back.
I'm glad you are having a nice day and some warmer weather, finally! It's hot here today and it was yesterday as well. But tomorrow with the rain, it will cool off a bit.

Kate - I'm with you as far as woven fabrics vs. knits and so many things (dresses) are being made from knits and they just seem too clingy to me.
What type of parade were your DGS and DD going to?
Did you end up finding something else to do or did you just go home and read?

I hope you both enjoy your Sunday!

Mema - I'm so sorry that your time at Ft. Snelling was marred by your sister's bad behaviour. I do understand her feeling passed over and upset, but sorry she made a public display of being unhappy. I know I've been upset with my sister. One of the last times I visited my DS and his family, my sister kindly drove me there, which I appreciated, but then she was entertaining my grandsons with her iPad, and generally being a big hit with them. At dinner one night we were there, one of my grandsons asked if he could sit next to her at dinner, which broke my heart. Obviously, no one did anything 'wrong', but I did feel very hurt, and it was all I could do not to burst into tears. I didn't want to create a scene though. I do understand your sister's feelings, but sorry she foisted her hurt feelings on others!
I'm sure it all ended up being hard on you too.
I'm glad you'll be going back to be with your grandkids for a couple of days! I'm sure that will be a good time for all of you.

Kate - Yes, I was very glad to have a book with me yesterday! I usually do have one with me. I never mind waiting as long as I can read.
I hardly ever wear dresses any more, but I think they are pretty. I have black dress pants, and also a nice pair of white pants for summer.
I'm glad you got a lot of weeding done!
Since you need to return your DGS earlier today, I hope you'll enjoy your reading time. What are you reading? I am reading 2 books: Outside Looking In by TC Boyle, and The Beginner's Goodbye by Anne Tyler. I had never read anything by Boyle before, but this book is quite fascinating, about the early days of 'research' into the use of LSD. I have read a lot of books by Anne Tyler, and have liked them all - this is no exception!
It's another beautiful day, and it's about 70, so I'm enjoying that!

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – glad you got all your errands and shopping done so quickly. Good thing you had a book w/ you to read while you waited. I’ll bring my iPad w/ me today so I can read while DGS swims.

Hope you get some warm weather soon.

Yes, a shirtwaist or shirtdress. I like clothes in woven fabrics and so much of what is out there are knits. It’s nice to find something like that dress.

Mema – so sorry that there was drama at the end of the service after everything had gone so well.

I can see that it would be hard for your sister to feel so completely ignored at her parents’ committal service. In spite of her poor behavior – you know you owe lots of amends to everyone there. One of the great things about the 12 step way of life is we can quickly realize when we’re wrong and work to set things right as far as we can. Hope you can quickly get your side of the street cleaned up.

Had a good spin class and then picked up a few things at the grocery for dinner. Got a fair amount of weeding done around the house but there is more to do. And I’ll need to go back and do some more work on the part I did first – more weeds. We didn’t have more mulch put down this spring b/c we changed landscaping companies. We do need more.

Today my DH will be hosting our church leadership here at the house all day so I’ll be taking DGS to his swim lesson and then driving him back home. My DD wanted him back as soon as possible b/c they're going to a parade so we won't be taking our time over lunch. I’ll probably come back home in the afternoon and read up in our bedroom unless I can think of something else to do.

It's been a busy couple of days and then there was a big drama at the end today.

We got to DH's daughter's house about 5 pm on Thursday and had a wonderful visit. Little Josie took to me almost right away. I don't get to see her much so I wasn't sure if she would be a bit shy. It didn't take her long to warm up to me so that was fun!

We (DH and I) left the daughter's house with plenty of time this morning and got to Ft. Snelling Cemetery about 45 minutes early, which was OK. My sister and her family and then 2 of my aunts and 1 uncle were there, too. My DS got there early as well. So we all headed up to the "assembly area" and then met up with my other aunt. All of that went well, we were brought to the Committal shelter. I sat at the end of the bench because I was going to be given the flag (which I had already from when my father passed away). My sister sat right next to me. The Honor Guard was first and fired off the 3 rounds, then Taps was played, then the presentation of the flag, plus I received a Certificate signed by the President and a pouch with 3 bullets in it. And afterwards, the funeral attendant gave me a pouch with all the spent shells in it. I gave one to my aunts and my uncle and my DS. Those last 3 items were a surprise to me. The minister did his piece and then it was over. And with that, my sister got up and stormed off! Two of my aunts went over to see what was wrong, and my sister was all upset because she was not acknowledged at all. And she made quite a scene about it. I walked over to where she was and sincerely apologized and she said everything is always about me. She was mad because I never introduced her to the Ft. Snelling representative that was directing us. He had my name because I made all the arrangements and had all the paperwork. When I was giving him the paperwork, she was visiting. I know I was concerned with all the arrangements because I was the one who set everything up and so I was responsible for everything. And Ft. Snelling holds 30 services like we had every day out there except Sundays, so they are on a very strict and tight schedule.

So, I know I was wrong that I didn't introduce her and I feel horrible about that. I did apologize right to her and it was a very emotional day for everyone. But the person I feel the most empathy for is my niece. She was very upset (I think with her mom) and crying. I hugged her and told her how sorry I was and she just didn't know what was going on. And she's the one who is getting married in July and I'm giving her a shower at the end of this month at my sister's house!

My sister and her family were not coming to lunch with us as they had a graduation to go to right after this service. When we were waiting at the restaurant to be seated I apologized to my aunts and uncle. They were all very understanding. I did call my one aunt who goes to TX every winter (and she and I go to the MN State Fair together) when DH and I got home and told her how badly I felt. She said I didn't have anything to feel badly about. She said she thought what my sister did was very inappropriate - not that she couldn't feel badly about not being recognized, but the way in which she acted afterwards.

I also know that when these services take place out at Ft. Snelling, they always give the flag and things to 1 person only - mainly because it's simpler that way - that person who is to receive the items always sits at the right end on the bench so there's no doubt who gets what.

The worse part is that this is what is going to be remembered anytime I (or anyone who was out there) thinks about when they remember today. This was the final piece, the final good-bye. I will send my sister an email because I know I can't speak with her right now - she'll still be very angry and may say things she will regret. And I know there is nothing I can "do" to fix it - there is no do-over. And I feel so badly about that. My aunt did tell me that my sister should have either taken me aside and said something or just left and called me or anything else except to make such a scene. My sister was actually yelling.

I am exhausted mentally and physically right now, so I'm going to try and get some sleep. Sorry to 'dump' all of this on you.

I've got laundry to do tomorrow and some cleaning because after church on Sunday I head back to the cities to my DS's house to watch Dakota and Ryan Monday and Tuesday. My DS also called me tonight to see how I was.

I am going to stop by Ft. Snelling on my way to my DS's house on Sunday. I have the place where they have buried my mom and dad and they have a temporary marker there right now. The marble head stone will be placed in 6-8 weeks. My sister had ordered a beautiful wreath for the service and it will be placed at my parent's grave site, so I want to take a picture of it.

Hope you both have a good Saturday -

emoticon

Mema - I hope everything is going smoothly today!

Kate - That dress looks very pretty. I wore a lot of 'shirtwaist' dresses in the 50s and 60s, and they looked a lot like your dress.
I'm glad you like your haircut.
Too bad your veggies will probably be there before the fridge, but you're right that there probably won't be a lot of the new produce yet.
I'm sorry it was muggy and hot there yesterday. I am hoping for those days! I'm glad it will be nice for you to work outside today. It's very pretty here, but still not really warm.
I went out with my friend from my exercise class this morning. I got to the post office so I could get a stamp and send a form back for Social Security. She went to her bank while I was doing that, and then we went to Walmart. I'm a pretty fast shopper, and didn't need much today, so it was a good thing I had brought a book along to read while I waited. She wanted to go to another place, so I just read again while she did that. She refused any money, and it was too early for lunch when we were done. It was a good morning. Now I have lots of things to catch up with around here, but they will probably wait until tomorrow.
I hope your spin class went well today!
I hope that meeting works out OK with you not having a full-size fridge!

I hope the day is going well for both of you!

Mema – how did everything go? Are you headed home today?

Leslie – good to hear from you again.

I do like my new haircut. It’s never much different – just shortened up.

The new dress is white w/ a grey pin stripe. I found a pic of the same dress on line. Mine is several sizes larger - LOL

Our first box of veggies will come next Thursday. It’s not very likely that we’ll have our fridge by then. (fingers crossed) I told my DH that the first few weeks tend to be smaller amounts b/c not much is ready yet. We’ll eat what we can and take the rest to my DD or give it to my DS. There may be some berries and there will be some storage apples from last fall. We can eat the berries right away and the apples will keep well w/o the fridge.

Off to spin class this morning. Then I have some more work to do weeding around the house. I should have gone out yesterday but it was so muggy and hot. Today should be much nicer. Mid 70's, sunny and dry.

Tomorrow the leadership team from our church is having an all day meeting at our house so I need to do some tidying. DH already warned the lady doing the food that we have no fridge space.

My apologies for not posting for a couple of days. Tuesday my housekeeper was here and I almost never can post that day. Yesterday I was out for my dental appointment for a couple of hours, so I didn't send any emails.
It was rainy and chilly yesterday but today is gorgeous - sunny, but still cool, in the mid-60s. It's supposed to be a little warmer for the weekend, so I hope that forecast is correct!

Mema - I'm sorry you were feeling tired and crabby. I hope you sleep well at night, and take rests when you can. You're always sounding like a real 'going concern', rushing from one thing to the next. Remember HALT (hungry, angry, lonely, tired) and take care of the issues as they arise.
I'm glad your DH's appointment went well, and you got to all the stores you needed to get to.
It sounds like a great idea to go to DH's daughter's for tonight so you won't have to rush tomorrow morning. The tuna macaroni salad sounds like a good idea. I hope you find something you love at the bakery. I've ordered my meds and groceries today, and ordered a loaf of pumpernickel from the store's bakery - it's good!
How nice that you'll be seeing the little girl, Josie.
My DS wants my younger DGS to get into an exchange program so he can go to France for 6-8 weeks to be with a French family. They would also be hosting a boy from France. The whole family (my DS's family) lived in France for a year about 4 years ago. My older grandson went to a French school and became fluent quite quickly, but the younger boy went to an international school where a lot of English was spoken. They will be spending another year in France in 2 or 3 years, so my DGS will need to be speaking French because he'll be at the high school level then. I hope this exchange program will work well for him. Everyone else in my DS's family is fluent in French, and they do have 'French nights' now and then, but Luke would actually learn better if he were just thrust into the situation for a few weeks.

Kate - I'm really sorry about all the fridge problems! I hope the new one you've ordered won't take too long to get there. They are so expensive!
I really love lilacs too, all colours!
We've had so much cool weather, I am really ready for heat. And the heat in our building will be shut off on June 15th, so I hope it's warmer by then! I'm praying for God to turn up the heat.
When will you get your first box of veggies? I hope you'll have your fridge by then!
Were you happy with your haircut? Mine that I was afraid was too short already looks fine. The new situation for your hairdresser sounds like a good idea!
I also don't like pants with no front pockets. I'm glad you did find a pair of shorts, and also crop pants. The dress sounds very nice - I like flared skirts. What colour is it? Your hats sound good too! I have a 'straw' coloured straw hat, and also a navy straw hat that I got for my son's graduation from Brown, years ago, but I've hardly worn it since then. I don't do the gardening you do though. The one you got that can be easily packed sounds like a great idea.

I hope your days are going well, and I hope you have a good drive today, Mema!

Mema – that’s really early for your meeting. I was about 15 minutes early for mine and discovered the two who were supposed to set up chairs weren’t there so I did that. The speaker arrived at about the same time I got there. She used to be a regular at that meeting but moved farther away and goes to different meetings now.

Hope all goes well on the trip and at Ft. Snelling.

Leslie - how are you? busy w/ paperwork?

I went out yesterday for a haircut. My hairdresser is renting a new spot. She has just one small room w/ a hair washing station and a cutting chair. It’s in a whole shared suite of mini salons. There’s a shared lobby and about 2 dozen small rooms that are rented by individual practitioners – hair dressers, massage, estheticians, and all sorts of others. I guess it gives her more independence to be on her own and yet it saves the cost of renting a whole place.

Afterwards I stopped at Marshalls to get some new shorts. It was frustrating to find that most of them I picked to try on had no front pockets. They were cut and seamed as if there was a pocket but there wasn’t one. I did find one pair I got and a pair of nice green crop pants as well. Both of them in the next smaller size than last summer. I spotted a summer dress on the clearance rack that was an even smaller size but it was cut w/ a flared skirt so I decided to try it on and it’s perfect.

And then I spotted the hats and bought two new hats as well. I’ve been wearing my only one – a black straw – and now I have white straw that’s cut like a baseball cap w/ a really extended brim and a dark blue and white one that wraps up into a cylinder for easy packing.

Busy day today. Before my meeting I colored my hair this morning. Nothing new, just freshened up the color. Went into town for my meeting and ran a couple of errands. Again I was early for the meeting - got there about 12:15 for the 1:00 meeting. Luckily one of the guys was there to open up and make coffee so I helped him out.

After that, came home and started getting my stuff ready for the overnight at DH's daughter's house. We will leave here tomorrow just after lunch. DH offered me to make a cold tuna macaroni salad to bring for dinner tomorrow night so I got that done tonight. Will check it in the morning and give it a stir and probably need to add more Miracle Whip. We have a cooler to keep it cold. There is a specialty bakery in the cities we haven't been to in a long time, so we'll stop by there on our way to DH's daughter's house so we can have that with the tuna salad. They usually have a lot of different types of bread that you don't find in stores.

I probably won't post tomorrow night as we'll be visiting. The daughter and her husband have a little girl - Josie, so I'm eager to see her!! She's was just 2 years the end of February.

We'll be back to the cabin on Friday evening and I'll try and post something then.

Kate - Hope you had a good hair cut. Did you find out why your stylist moved? Will you stay with her?
Oh, that's too bad about the mini frig!

Leslie - hope you are having a good day!

Have a Thankful Thursday!

Leslie – I think yesterday was your cleaning day, right? I know that’s always a full day for you.

Mema – I have a meeting today, too. I hope the speaker is a good one.

Staying overnight before the trip to Ft. Snelling does sound more relaxed. My DH has started doing something similar when he’s on business trips and he has a morning flight back home. He’ll drive to the airport he’s leaving from, turn in the rental car and spend the night at the airport hotel. That way all he needs to do in the morning before his flight is catch a shuttle bus.

I have a hair cut this afternoon. This is w/ my regular person in her new salon. It will be interesting to ask why she moved.

One more hiccup in the fridge saga. The little mini fridge was freezing everything. I thought it might be b/c the whole freezer section was a mass of ice. We carrried it outside to defrost and I think I did something a bit too much w/ the hair dryer b/c it stopped working entirely. So - we went out and bought a new mini. We'll give that new one back to our friends as a replacement when we get our new fridge.

I just did some odds and ends around the house today. I didn't really have the energy to do much.

Tomorrow is my meeting and I'll stop by a couple of stores in town before hand. I'm looking for a few things I didn't get yesterday.

We may be going to DH's daughter's house on Thursday evening to stay with her so we won't be so rushed on Friday. He wanted to leave from our house to go to Ft. Snelling on Friday morning. That would mean leaving here at 7:00 am to guarantee we get there in plenty of time (we need to be there no later than 10:45 am). It's a 2 1/2 hour drive and you never know what we might run into. So that would be much better if we could be down there the night before. And much easier on my nerves. We could effectively leave the daughter's house at 10:00 am and be there by 10:20-10:25 easily.

Kate - You're right about working the steps. I did tell my DH that I was feeling tired and crabby. I didn't crab at him at all - but certainly felt like it at times! LOL He was appreciative that I told him how I was feeling.
Wow - you have had a LOT of rain! I'm like you in that I would rather have cooler weather vs. hot weather or be chilly rather than hot.
I'm glad you've ordered your new frig; I hope you don't have to wait too long for it.

Leslie - Hoping you have had a good day reading and/or catching up on your correspondence. I know you have a boat load!! I don't think I could keep up like you do.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Mema – sounds like you were tired out from your trip to your DS’s and therefore a bit cranky. I know I get that way. I’ve found that working the 12 Steps has made me much more aware of how my own reactions can make a situation worse.

I’m glad that the dr. appt. went well for your DH and you got all the shopping done afterwards.

I have 3 lilac bushes and they are all shades of purple but range from a fairly reddish purple to a much bluer purple – if that makes any sense.

Leslie – the sales guy at the shop was telling us that due to environmental issues the type of coolant is different now and they have to use a lot more electronics to manage the cooling to keep the energy usage down. Both of those changes make the fridges less reliable. Sigh!

Every time we have a chilly spell here, the weather reporters talk about the “cold Canadian air”. I’d really rather be chilly than hot – as long as it’s not cold and wet, too. We had 46 days of rain in April and May.

So we had the repair guy look at the fridge and his diagnosis was the same as mine – either a coolant leak or a busted compressor. In either case, the repair would be more than the cost of a replacement. Since I like a simple fridge w/ no extras like a water dispenser or ice machine, we’ll get a new one for under $1200.

Purchased a new one last night but it has to be shipped in from Ohio so the delivery date is a bit uncertain. Turned out there wasn’t any place that could guarantee delivery in anything less than 1 - 2 week so we went w/ our local appliance shop.

Meanwhile, the tiny fridge we borrowed won’t hold much beyond the lunch meat and milk so I’ll be shopping for veggies every day or two since there is no place to store them.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

Oh, it was a long day today. I think because I was a bit tired and a lot of little things DH was doing while we were driving today were driving me crazy! He can't hear the turn signal sound on cars and so he's always leaving them on and I have to constantly remind him to turn them off. And we left way early and I thought we were going to stop at one of the stores on the way down since we had an hour before his appt., but instead he just drove around by the doctor's office and said if I saw a Dollar Tree we could stop! So we wasted an hour on doing nothing. I was just not in the best mood I guess. But really everything went well at his appt. so that was good. And we got to all the stores we needed to get to on the way home. So, it was just me, I know that.

Tomorrow I don't have anything special planned and I'm glad about that. Being gone for 2 days, then home one day (Sunday) and then gone again all day today was a little much.

Leslie - I'm glad your library volunteer made it today for you. What kind of exchange program is your DGS going to participate in? And where are they going to spend another year that he needs to brush up on his French?
I'm glad you at least had a sunny day. I hope it warms up soon for you. Our day was warm and sunny, with low humidity and dew point so that made it comfortable.

Kate - I think you are exactly right calling it "providence". It is fun to see how God works in our lives sometimes.
Oh, we have pollen here, too! Loads of it, every day. We have to leave one of our cars outside because the other 2 go in the garage and it has a yellow haze from the pollen.
Did you find out if your frig can be fixed? Nice that you at least had that small frig for some things. Small is better than nothing!
All of our lilacs are in full bloom right now. While driving today I saw white lilacs, lavender lilacs and deep purple lilacs. I love the smell of them. We have one bush right next to our deck off the kitchen and it has a few blooms on it. It's been slow in blooming, so maybe now each year we'll get more.

Have a great day!

Mema - It's wonderful that you can get that ramp from your neighbours!
That's odd that the riding mowers almost all have brake pedals you can't reach!
I'm sorry you'll have a long day at the Twin Cities today for your DH's appointment.
I hope he will be getting his blood sugar checked again soon. It's great that he has lost some weight, and is both eating better and more active.
My library volunteer didn't make it yesterday. A little after noon today, I sent a brief email to let her know I'll be here for the rest of today and tomorrow. As soon as I sent it, there was an email from her letting me know she'd be here by 3 today! I felt a little silly.

Kate - I'm glad a friend loaned you a small fridge to use until your repair guy comes. I hope he'll be there today! I've had 3 occasions of a fridge quitting on me. The first 2 times it was repaired, but replaced the last time, and this fridge has been fine. The odd thing was, the original fridge that was here when I moved in was perfect, but they gave us all new energy efficient fridges a few years ago, and that was the one that kept breaking down.

And, now my volunteer has been here! She gave me the info my son had wanted about an exchange program for my grandson to participate in to brush up on his French before they spend another year there.

It's a beautiful sunny day, but still chilly, in the 50s.

I hope your days are going well.

Mema – what a nice “coincidence” that your neighbors are getting rid of a ramp just as you need one. Or should we call it providence?

We get lots of “tree junk”, too. But it’s from the maple trees. And a layer of yellow pollen all over everything.

Have a good day on your trip to Twin Cities. Perhaps you can do some nice things as well as your DH’s appointment.

Leslie – it’s tough when the losses pile up in one month.

Did you library volunteer come by?

DH cleaned out all the dust from the coils and looked to see if he could find anything wrong w/ the fridge. It is definitely broken somehow. Either there was a coolant leak or the compressor motor is gone. A friend lent us a tiny dorm sized fridge so we have a place to keep a few things cold while we’re waiting for the repair guy. Then we’ll see if it can be fixed or if it needs to be replaced.

Today is going to be a lovely day outside – sunny and high 60’s. I’m going to try to finish weeding the mulch around the house. All the lilacs have stopped blooming so I need to look them over and see if they need a bit of pruning to reshape them.

After church today, I walked down the road 3 houses as our next door neighbor's son and wife just bought the cabin there and they are basically re-doing most every room in the place. So, I got a "walk-thru" from the wife. It is knotty pine on the inside (which looks very warm and cozy to me, especially for up here in a cabin). And they are putting on front and back decks and new patio doors, some windows. It will be very nice when they are finished. He's still working, but will retire in 3-5 years - he's only 49! And his wife has never worked. They have 2 daughters who are in middle school and high school.

Oh, and here's a "coincidence". A few days after we got back up here, I mentioned to DH that he should get a ramp for the 2 steps that go up to our back deck. It's always clumsy for him getting his rollator up and down those steps. He said it was a great idea and would figure out what he needed and build one. Well, it just so happens that these kids who are re-doing the cabin 3 houses down, tore off a ramp. DH went over to look at their work on Saturday and when he was getting ready to leave, the wife said it might be easier for him to exit out the back as there is a ramp (DH was using his cane). She told him they would be tearing it off because they are putting on a new deck. He asked what they were going to do with the ramp and she said they would either burn it or throw it. When she asked why, DH told her what he was looking at doing at our place and she told him he could have it! So, they will bring it down sometime this week. DH will have to make a few minor adjustments to it, so it fits with our deck, but how crazy is that how that worked out? emoticon

Then I mowed a patch of our lawn that DH wanted done. It's over the septic tank. He wants to see if the rest of the grass starts to go to seed before I mow. Last week when we were in town, we looked at some riding lawn mowers and I found out something that I never knew. Most of them have a brake pedal towards the front of the mower so you can stop. I cannot reach that pedal on almost all of them! Then we looked at a rear-motor mower and that one the pedal was a bit closer. Even moving the seat forward I still couldn't reach on most of the mowers. I also liked the rear-motor because it seems like I can see what's in front of me much better. I think he will be ordering that one (that I can reach) once it's back in stock. I know at some point I'm probably going to need the riding mower, but I'll keep walking as long as I can.

I swept off our front deck today, too. We have white oak trees and black oak trees all over our yard and the black oak trees throw off these seed "strings" in the spring and they just get all over everything! That will keep going until the trees are fully leafed out. Very messy stuff!

Tomorrow we are headed to the Twin Cities once again for DH's annual neurology appointment. It's basically a routine appt., but he has to see his dr. every year. So that will be a long day, too.

Leslie - I'm sorry this month is not a good one for you.
My DH told me he does NOT have an appt. yet. When he emailed his dr. up here from TX with the numbers of his blood sugar, the dr. told him to change his diet, try to lose some weight and have it checked again in a few weeks. He wanted to make sure it wasn't a fluke that it jumped so much. And DH has lost weight and is eating better. Plus he's much more active up here than down in TX. He has more buildings on the land to walk back and forth to. He said he will get that appointment in the next week or two.
Did your library volunteer make it over?
I'm glad you had a quiet day.

Kate - When I was at my DS's Friday, both Dakota and Ryan asked if they could wake me up on Saturday morning? They usually get up early, but because of the recital they didn't get to bed until almost 11 pm. So I was up before them on Saturday! It can be hard for kids to be quiet in the mornings. Dakota is pretty good, but Ryan who is 5 has a much harder time.
There was a brief thunderstorm that went thru the Twin Cities on Friday night. There was a lot of lightning around, and when it finally did rain, it didn't last too long. Or at least I don't think it did because that was the time I was going to bed and I think I fell asleep in about 10 minutes!
I hope you were able to keep most of your food cold until you can get your frig looked at. We have an extra frig out in the "bunkhouse" where DH's son and family stay so we could always move our stuff out there if something happened to our frig. The year we had a bad storm go thru up here, we were w/out electricity for 2 weeks. Luckily, DH's parents were here as well and he had a generator that we shared with them so we were able to keep most everything we had.

Enjoy your Monday!

Mema - What great pictures! Your grandkids are both very cute, and it's good to see your DS and DIL too. I think it's wonderful that he gets flowers for Dakota! I'm glad you enjoyed the recitals, and that teacher does sound great.
I'm glad you won't have long to wait to see the kids again!
Your DH was very kind to have dinner ready for you.
I'm sorry about all the construction on your drive. It's like that here too. Next year will be very bad in town because they will be replacing the bridge on the main east/west street!
I'm glad to hear your DH has an appt. with his doctor - the sooner the better. That blood sugar was quite high.
I took shorthand when I was 21, at a Speedwriting school in San Francisco, and then in New York City. My first husband wanted me to learn it so I could take dictation. I was the office manager when we had our own company. I was very speedy at the shorthand, but I'm still a slow typist, even after all these years.
This is a hard month for me, aside from my daughter's death - there were other family deaths in this month, including my mother.

Kate - oh no, sorry your fridge isn't working properly! I hope you can get someone there tomorrow.
I'm sure it is hard for your DGS to stay quiet when he wakes up so early. Maybe he'll start sleeping in when he's a teen.
You had great choices of electives in school. Aside from Latin, the only other one I can think of was geography... We didn't have semesters. The courses all went for the entire year, so the final exams covered a LOT of material!
We finally have a sunny day, and it's a little warmer than the forecast predicted - it's about 60 rather than 50.
How exciting that your DS and his GF are looking at engagement rings!

I'm hoping my library volunteer will be here today. Otherwise I'm having a quiet day.
I hope you're both having good days!

Thanks for the new threads Pat.

Leslie – DGS does really try to stay still and quiet when he wakes up early but he is only 8 so it’s hard.

My high school had really great electives that were half a semester long so I took extra ones instead of study halls. I had a couple of English electives like poetry and Shakespeare’s plays and a couple of science electives like studies of radiation and aeronautics.

I can imagine it’s hard to remember losing your DD. I do like that song “Always on my Mind”.

Mema – glad the recital was good. And nice that your DH had dinner waiting for you when you got home.

It’s prime construction time around here, too. Roads are being fixed all over the place and a lot of water mains are being worked on in our town and the neighboring towns so we have big sections of the town roads being torn up.

Nice that you can be there to watch your grand kids in the break between school and day care. I expect the teachers and custodians have a fair amount of work to do to get all the school stuff cleared out and stored away for the summer. I know my friend that used to be a teacher always had a couple of days of at the end of the school year and again at the beginning of the next year to work on her class room.

We're scheduled for scattered thunderstorms tonight. When I was going to bed last night, I thought I heard thunder but it kept going on and on and I realized there was a fireworks show somewhere.

DS told us at lunch yesterday that he and his GF are looking at engagement rings. He was a bit shocked at the price of them. He said he told his GF the price of a ring would cover a bathroom remodeling for their house.

I realized when I was cooking dinner last night that the things in the fridge weren’t as cold as they should be. The freezer stuff was all melting. Yikes! I moved everything I could into the small stand alone freezer. Don’t know if we’ll be able to get it looked at until Monday. DH left a message on the answering machine at the repair place.

Meanwhile, DH bought a big bag of ice and we’re keeping the inside of the fridge cool w/ ice.
