Ran a couple of errands before heading to my meeting. We had 17 people at the meeting today! That's good, but there are not very many winter Texans that go to this meeting, but there are quite a few "white" people. Most are Hispanic.

I have 4 boxes (the large Priority mail boxes from the Post Office) filled with albums. I think I will mail those up to DS's house. I think I will be able to put the rest in my case to go home. Now that I finished that project, I really want to get them up to my DS.

It was super windy here today! It was hazy from the smoke from Mexico, but I didn't notice any bad smell. Also, if there was anything bad in the air, I didn't notice it, but I don't have any respiratory issues either.

I decided I will finish up the rest of my cleaning tomorrow before our neighbors come over. There's not much to do. DH is going to cook the spiral ham in the crock pot - we'll see how that turns out. We don't usually buy spiral hams because they can have the tendency to dry out, but this one he bought and we got a free turkey with it! So hopefully the crock pot will keep it moist.

Leslie - I'm glad you had sunshine today.
I'm sorry to hear about the flooding East of you. There was some flooding in the Twin Cities a couple of weeks back. I'll be curious to see how high our lake is when we get back. It has been at record height for the past several years. The bottom step to the lake was nearly underwater last year.

Kate - The peach colored roses are beautiful and are opening up nicely.
I love the "feel" of spring in the air. And it seems like even though we will be home mid-May, we may still "feel" like early spring - it's not warming up too fast up there. You know, we've been coming down here to TX long enough now that I can "see" the change in seasons here, but because nothing freezes here there isn't that freshness that comes along with spring like it does up North. I miss that. Everything starts blooming again, so you know spring is coming just not the same way. It is different. There are leaves that fall off some of the trees down here in the fall and pretty much anything that blooms becomes dormant for the winter and then in the spring it comes back to life.

Happy Wednesday!

Mema - congratulations on finishing with the pictures! You really have a lot to pass on to your DS. I also have old pictures of my grandparents, parents, and us kids when we were very young. I'll be glad when I get everything organized, but at the rate I'm going, and with all the other projects I've been trying to work on, the pictures may have to wait until the fall/winter. As long as I do get to them, I'll be happy.
I also remember the days of nothing being open on Sundays. I think the salon I go to for pedicures is closed Sundays and Mondays. It's a small enterprise, but they offer a lot of services. We also used to go for rides on Sunday afternoons.
I'm glad it all worked out with the car, and I certainly don't blame your DH for opting to pay the bigger tax!
I don't care for so much cool weather either. I'm looking forward to more heat!
That's awful about so much smoke coming from Mexico. I do have COPD and asthma, so it would be hard for me there.

Kate - is the Kindle app something you pay for? I am thinking that for the cost of the Kindle, and then for the books, I might just make a list of the books I can't get from the library, and get them at either the used book store in town, or at the book sale. The prices at the library book sales here vary - the 'like new' hardcover books might be $5, paperbacks are less, and on the last day or two of the sale, one can fill up a whole bag with books, and only pay $2 for the works.
I had been quite sure that as long as I can connect to the internet, there had to be a way to get books to the Kindle without WiFi. I don't own a tablet, and really have no desire for one. I could see the benefit of the Kindle for travelling, but I don't do much of that any more, and really like to hold books in my hands.
You and your DH had an excellent plan for the airport! I'm glad everything went smoothly.
Your garden sounds wonderful! I envy the asparagus you have. When I've ordered it from the store, they have sent horribly skinny spears. They have been tasteless. Next time I'll ask them to only send it if it's bigger. I love rhubarb too. When we had a garden, we grew regular peas in pods, because I love eating raw peas! I don't eat them cooked, but my partner liked those. I do get snap peas from the store now, but may order some pea pods soon! I also hope I can get artichokes soon. I love those too. And, green beans... I could go on and on!

We actually have sun today, but rain is returning tonight. Flooding is really bad east of here, in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick. There are a lot of our military personnel deployed to help with sandbagging, or whatever needs to be done.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema Ė the flowers are lovely. Such a lovely shade for roses Ė kind of peachy colored.

Hooray for being done w/ the photos. Thatís an incredible accomplishment.

Hope the air isnít too bad w/ the smoke.

Glad the car transfer went smoothly after all the delays you had w/ the death certificate. Sounds like paying the sales tax was worth it just to get it done.

Leslie Ė nice that you have someone to talk you through the procedure to get books on a new device. I have the kindle app on my laptop as well as my tablet so I can read any of my books from either place. I have WiFi on both devices. I would guess that you could use a cable to connect the tablet device to the computer to move things there.

When our library has book sales, they are normally only about a dollar each.

We had a little bit different plan for the airport this time. When DH left to the airport last Monday, he went on the express bus. He bought a round trip ticket and gave me the return half. So when I arrived, I took the express bus back and he picked me up at the bus terminal. That saved both of us a trip into Boston during rush hour on sequential Mondays. Since I was leaving very early Thursday morning and DH was coming home Thursday evening, I drove into the airport and left the car in the parking garage there. I texted him the location so he could find it.

The video clip of the speaker wasnít the best one to see what he actually does. It was amazing to watch him take one woman after another, help them hone in on what they really wanted to change in their lives and help them to develop a statement that encapsulated the desire. Then taking the pill was just a symbol of making that decision to change. I could see changes in their faces and posture as they came to that point and made the shift.

It was so lovely to come home and sleep in my own bed. Even though we're expecting a lot of rain, it's so obvious that spring is here. My rhubarb is growing w/ stems about 5-6 inches long. My asparagus is coming up w/ lovely fat spears. The lettuce seeds have started to sprout. I did some 'hoeing' to keep down the weeds and planted my snap peas. It's a bit late for them but I hadn't gotten around to ordering seeds until that last push before I left. I hope the weather doesn't turn hot too quickly b/c peas like cooler weather.

emoticon I'm finished with DS's pictures!!!!! That was a big job, but I'm so glad it's done. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to get all these albums up North. I know I won't have room in the car this year to take all of them, so I may mail up a couple of boxes and then pack the left overs in my case of stuff I take back. DH is taking extra stuff this year, so my space is limited. I would love to give them to him for Father's Day.

I do have a 3 ring binder with page protectors in it that I'm putting in all DS's school pictures, my 8 x 10 confirmation picture as well as my baby picture and my 1 yr. picture - all 8 x 10. Then I have 8 x 10's of my maternal grandparents wedding picture, my maternal great-grandparents wedding picture and my paternal grandparents wedding picture as well as some other very old pictures of family. My mom was very good about keeping some of the old, old pictures. That is half way done, so I will finish that up tomorrow.

I also did some cleaning today. I will clean DH's bathroom tomorrow and maybe do some laundry. I also have my meeting tomorrow.

Kate - I'm sorry you had such a bumpy ride. That "bing-bong" sound can be annoying. I hope you were able to get rested up.

Leslie - The salon where I go to get my hair cut is closed on Saturdays because the owners are 7th Day Adventists and I guess they have church on Saturday. But up North, I go to Great Clips and they are open on Sunday, too. I do remember when I was quite young when none of the stores were open on Sundays. I wish, sometimes it was still like that. I remember my sister and I would ask my dad if he would take us for a ride "out to the country" on Sundays.
I'm glad to hear about the woman who said she will help you with setting up your kindle!
DH did have a pretty easy time getting the title transferred on the car, but he was there for about 2 hours! He had all the correct paperwork, so I was glad about that. There was one little hitch - in TX if a car is an inheritance there is a $10 gift tax that you pay, otherwise you pay sales tax on the sale price of the car. He had planned on paying the $10, but the lady said that one of the papers that was signed by the executor of the state (his sister) needed to be notarized (even though she had signed it) because she wasn't present. Well, instead of leaving the DMV and getting this paper notarized and then coming back and waiting in line again, the State of TX also has what is called "saleable value" or something like that. It's the lowest sale price on a car that is acceptable to the State and so you pay the sales tax (6.75%) on that price. He decided to do that instead, so he paid $70 in sales tax instead of the $10 gift tax. He said it was worth it just so he wouldn't have to go back again. So that is complete, too! He will receive the new title in the mail. And it will be forwarded if we're gone before it comes.

I talked with my aunt who is back in St. Paul, MN and she said it's been chilly there. She's not liking the cool weather for the end of April. We're supposed to be hazy now and our air quality is going to be compromised tomorrow and maybe the next day because of Mexico burning off their sugar cane. They don't have the restrictions we do in the US and if it's too windy, they don't burn here, (they want the smoke to rise up out into the atmosphere instead of blowing across the country) but in Mexico they still burn in spite of the wind, so all the smoke is coming our way. They are saying if you have any respiratory problems to not stay outdoors for long periods of time over the next couple of days. I don't have any problems and neither does DH, so that's good.

Have a good Tuesday!

Kate - I'm sorry you had a rough flight home! Welcome back though.

Mema - you and the flowers are lovely! The purple flowers are a nice touch!
I'm surprised you got your hair cut on Sunday.
It's great that you're almost done with your pictures! You've really worked hard on those.
Don't worry about the techy question I asked. I asked it in a book group on Facebook, and after about 30 people telling me I needed WiFi to download books, one woman finally said I do not need it, and she would be happy to walk me through setting it up! I'm immensely grateful to her. We are also now friends on FB.
I hope your DH has an easy time getting the car into his name.
Your ham dinner on Wednesday sounds good! It will be fun to be with good friends.
I'm glad you also enjoyed that movie!

We had some sun first thing this morning, but it has been cloudy since then, and staying cool - it's about 40. I hope it will warm up soon.

I hope you are both having good days, and I hope you are getting some good rest, Kate!

I'm home again. The red-eye was a really bumpy ride. There was a constant repeat of the bing-bong, "Please fasten your seat belts". I'm exhausted and a bit spacey. I'll post more tomorrow.

It all went well at church today. DH said I did very well in my reading. Came home and worked on pictures for a bit and then got my hair cut for one last time down here. The rest of the day I just kind of took it easy. Here are the pictures of the flowers I brought to church in memory of my mom and I wore purple, too (her favorite color)!

Tomorrow I need to go to Walmart to pick up a prescription I dropped off on Friday. And I will probably work more on my pictures! I am almost done believe it or not! LOL I think DH is going to the MVD to see about getting the car transferred into his name.

We are having some neighbors over for dinner on Wednesday. I have a ham I want to use before we leave. It will just be one couple. But they are good friends so it will be fun. I'll probably be cleaning on Tuesday!

Leslie - I'm sorry, but I'm not "tech-y" at all. Do you have Best Buy in Canada? I know you can call them and they might be able to help you out or maybe a Barnes & Noble book store???? They should definitely have information on Kindle. Maybe Kate knows more.
The book sale at the library sounds like something right up your alley!
I saw that movie Going In Style - it was really funny! I loved it - I'm glad you enjoyed it, too.

Kate - I've also watched part of the video link - he is very interesting. I'm planning on watching the whole thing.
I think S. Padre Island tends to be cloudier in the morning here, too and then the clouds/fog burns off after a few hours.
I hope you have a very safe trip back home and I hope you were able to sleep or at least rest on the plane.

Enjoy your Monday!

I have a dilemma - I don't know if either of you would know the answer to this. I have been thinking of getting a Kindle to get books less expensively, now that I can't get all the books I want from the library due to the cancellation of the interlibrary loan program. I do not have WiFi. My laptop is connected to a modem. Everyone is telling me on Facebook that I need WiFi to download books to the Kindle, but I'm sure there must be a way to connect the Kindle to the laptop and download them so I don't have to figure out how to get somewhere there is WiFi I can use. Would either of you know about that? I am not at all tech savvy, but I would think that as long as I'm connected to the internet, I should be able to do that.
Sorry; this has been bothering me this morning!

Mema - you are really doing a lot of work on the pictures! I know it will be wonderful when you finally get to the end! I'm sorry you had to redo some of them.
Your beef enchiladas sound heavenly! I will be having half a chicken breast tonight with a large spinach salad. If I'm hungry I'll have potatoes too.
I'm glad that the guy's resignation from the position at the club won't be very disruptive.
We don't have Goodwill here, and getting to the Sally Ann (Salvation Army) is not easy for me. The library does have a wonderful book sale every fall. I may see if I can go to that with my friend this year. Those books are not at all expensive either.

Kate - thanks for the link. I watched part of his talk - interesting guy!
I'm glad you've been having such a wonderful time. I guess you're flying home tonight. I wish you a safe trip! Will your DH meet you at the airport when you get home? I hope you can sleep on the long flight.

Oh, I almost forgot - I watched a fun movie on Netflix last night about 3 elderly men who rob a bank. Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Alan Arkin are in it. emoticon It's called Going In Style.

It's sunny here today, but still cold. I'm not sure if it got up to 40 even.
I hope you're both enjoying your Sundays.

Mema Ė our church also has officers w/ different length terms. And those with longer terms are overlapping so not everyone goes off a board at the same time.

Glad youíre getting through the photos. Iím not sure I could date all of mine if I went through them.

The mornings on the beach are overcast and a bit windy. The sun doesnít burn through the clouds until late morning.

Leslie Ė this is a retreat for another diet related group that deals w/ the emotional/spiritual issues that fuel the overeating. A lot of what we cover is the types of things you do when working the 12 steps but more intensively.

Some of the women here are from Alberta and they were showing pictures from home of the snow there.

I've had a great time on this retreat. Yesterday we had a special guest. Here's a link to him.

I slept in a bit today and then basically worked on my pictures all day. I ended up having to take some pictures out of 3 albums and re-do them because I realized I had some dates wrong and 3 of those albums would only hold a 3 x 5 picture and I had some 4 x 6 ones to put in. I did have to cut some of the 4 x 6 prints to fit into the 3 x 5 sleeves. It didn't take away from the pictures at all so that was good. But that took some time getting it all straightened out. My DS didn't change a whole lot from age 13 to 14 and there were no dates on some of the photos so I got some of those mixed up.

I made beef enchilada's for supper tonight and they were good!

Oh, and on DH's Investor's Club - the guy just resigned from being president, but will stay in the club. There is a limit of 30 members and I think they have 27 right now. And thru the summer the club doesn't meet because so many of the members go North, so as far as being w/out a president, it won't matter much. My DH is mainly the one in charge of what they invest in, so he keeps a close eye on that thru the summer and if something major happens, he will email the other officers and get a vote if he needs to sell or buy something. So in the fall, they will have to elect another president and they have other offices that will be up for election as well. I think different positions have different terms so they are not electing a whole new set of officers each year or every other year. I think there are 1, 2 and 3 year terms on the different officer positions.

That is how it works for our Board of Directors in the whole Alamo Country Club so at our annual homeowners meeting we are not electing a new board each year. It's usually 1-3 positions up for election.

Leslie - I'm pretty sure the Twin Cities lucked out as far as snow went. It looked like it was further South. DH's son and family who live in La Crosse, WI looked like they were going to get it.
I'm glad the library you use is one of the biggest in your area for you so you do get a nice selection of books to read. Do you ever look at Goodwill or Salvation Army for books? They are usually very cheap if you were interested in buying.

Kate - Nice that you found those shoes for yourself from your MIL. My MIL had 2 small leather snap cases with dominoes in them that I got! I'm going to bring them to the cabin.
I hope you had a nice dinner with your friends.
Walking on the beach sounds lovely - was it very windy? South Padre Island can be quite windy down there oftentimes.

Have a lovely Sunday!

Mema - that movie sounded good, but after watching What We Had a week or two ago, I don't think I want to watch one on 'loss' again so soon. I will see if I can find something funny for tonight.
I'm sure you have been dealing with a lot of memories while going through your pictures. I think that's part of what makes it hard for me to really get going with mine.
I'm sorry about the anniversary of your mother's death. Anniversaries are hard. It's good that you'll be taking the flowers to church.
I'm sorry that things got unpleasant at the club your DH is in! Did the president leave the club, or just the position? Is it a big group?
I decided to hold off on ordering the Chinese food. I wanted to wait to order it until after my groceries were delivered, but they didn't come until almost 6 PM! I had already had some cheddar melted on Triscuits, so that ended up being my dinner.
There was snow on the grass when I got up today. The grass was completely covered, but the pavement was bare. It's staying in the 30s today, and it's fairly windy. I'm glad I won't be out today. Do you know if the Twin Cities got snow too?

Kate - I remember you going on the retreat last year too, but I forget - is it an OA event, or a church event, or something else?
It sounds like you've been getting to know quite a few of the people there. Do you know where you're going out for dinner tonight?
I'm glad you got the sandals from your MIL. Great inheritance!
For now the interlibrary loans are done here. I hope we can get it back, but I think it's doubtful. I am really unhappy about it. Oh well, I'm grateful for the books I can get, and I'm glad our library is the biggest one in this area, so it does have a large collection.

I hope you're both having good days!

We had our breakfast together and then meetings all day long. Most of us had lunch together by the pool. I walked alone on the beach in the morning before breakfast and w/ a bunch of ladies after the meetings. We broke up into smaller groups for dinner. I ate w/ two of the newer members of the group and got to know them a bit better. Half of them are women I knew last year, the other half are new.

Today will be a repeat of breakfast and meetings all day. I have some leftovers in my fridge for lunch so Iíll just buy a salad at the snack shop to go w/ them. Weíre all going out to dinner together tonight so that will be fun.

Mema Ė itís funny the things that give us memories. After my MIL died and we were staying in her room, I saw a pair of almost new Teva sandals on her shelf that were exactly what I had been looking for. I asked my SIL and she said that both she and the other SIL wore a bigger size so if they fit me Ė take them. I wore them yesterday for the first time and told one of the women that they were my ďinheritanceĒ. That was a joke, but I certainly was remembering her as I wore them.

Hope the anniversary of your momís passing is not too difficult for you. Losing a mom is so hard.

What happens w/ the investorís club now? Is there someone to take over as the new president?

Leslie Ė hope you donít get snow. Weíre having a lot of rain in Boston, too. I got a news story saying that it will rain 11 of the next 14 days. Iím going to go out and get as much sunshine as I can while Iím here in CA.

I use the interlibrary loan, too. That would be a shame if they stopped it. Hope you find others to join your outcry so they back down.

DH and I watched a Netflix DVD tonight - "Nostalgia" was the name. It was kind of a slow moving movie, but very touching! The story was about people who have lost - an aged man (losing his youth), a widowed woman who lost her home to a fire (she was elderly, too) and then a middle age couple who lost their college aged daughter. But the movie focused on the "things" we accumulate that we end up giving away or selling, but we always have the memories. It reminded me so much of what I have been thru these last years and now these past few weeks going thru all my pictures - what memories I've enjoyed and "re-lived' just looking at them.

I also went to the store this morning and bought 2 bouquets of flowers for church on Sunday. It will be the 1 year anniversary of my mother's passing so I signed up to bring the flowers in memory of her.

DH's "situation" with his Investor's club resulted in the President of the club resigning after all the officers voted against his request. They are a regular partnership with elected officers and by-laws and such. So, that's unfortunate that he did that, but he was asking for an exception to one of their rules that the rest of the officers didn't agree with, but he was being quite pig-headed and pushy about it.

Leslie - What did you decide on your dinner - did you eat in or order in?
Thanks for telling me about the quitnet.com site. I'll take a look at it.
Oh, no - not more snow for you!! Although I did see that the Twin Cities was going to be on the edge of slushy rain/snow over the weekend, but if there was any snow it would probably melt once it hit the ground.
I'm so sorry to hear about your library program being cancelled. I hope your phone call helped and hopefully there were others who called, too. I hope it changes back for you.

Kate - To the left of the first picture of the pool, there is a large canopy covered area for shade. I'm like you, not much for sitting in the sun too much.
The platform in the middle of the pool is stationary and has 2 steps to get up to it. I suppose it's also for sitting/laying in the sun.
Your place for breakfast looks heavenly! And the view is absolutely gorgeous!
Sorry you had a hectic drive to the airport. I don't use our GPS at all (for me there's never been a need), but I probably should learn because my sense of direction is terrible. When we're supposed to turn Right, I want to turn Left and vice versa. So I usually tell DH IF he asks me, to go the opposite of what I think! LOL
How nice that you were able to have dinner with some other women. And taking a long soak in the bathtub sounds lovely. I have an oval tub in my bath and will often soak in it.
I hope the rest of your retreat goes well!

Enjoy your Saturday!!

Wow, there are so many posts since my last one, I thought maybe I'd missed another day!

Mema, I'm sorry your DH is having some issues with his Investors' Club. I'm glad I'm not dealing with those.
I'm glad you liked your dinner at Olive Garden. I am thinking I may order my Chinese food tonight, then it would last all weekend. Thanks for your congrats on my year of being smoke free. I think you are doing well too. When you might be ready to quit, there's a great site, quitnet.com with lots of great support.
We did have a lovely day yesterday, but it started raining early this morning, and really poured for a few hours - I'm glad it wasn't snow, but there's still a risk of flooding around here. We're safe where this building is, but some roads are closed, or have standing water on them. Glad I'm not driving these days. We could get snow tonight! I hope there won't be much.
The pool looks lovely!

Kate - I'm sorry for your difficulty driving to the airport, but I'm like you - I never really feel lost because I can head in the right direction and sooner or later meet up with a street or highway I know.
I'm sure it's odd getting used to the time change, and you'll be there for such a short time.
Thanks to you too for the congrats.
Iced Mauve sounds pretty too!
I'm glad you met up with some of the other ladies so you could have dinner together. Your soak in that tub sounded very luxurious! How nice that you're near the beach too.

I've ordered my groceries today, so I'll see when they get here before I decide about ordering the Chinese food. I may decide to wait until next week because I'll have some fresh things I'll be needing to use from my groceries.
I had a disappointment, or really a shock last night. I had sent my library volunteer the list of the books I wanted. She couldn't bring one, nor order it, because it isn't in our library's collection. We used to be able to get books like that through the interlibrary loan program, but with the new budget cuts, that program has been cancelled. I am really quite horrified. I've been using that program once or twice a month for ages. I just can't afford to buy all the books I want that my library doesn't have. I have called my MPP (Member of the Provincial Parliament) to express my displeasure, and I have posted on Facebook. Someone in Saskatchewan told me that their provincial government tried that a couple of years ago, but there was such an outcry, the government backed down. I'd like to think we could do that here, but our premier (equivalent to governor) is extremely stubborn, and I can't imagine him backing off from anything he has decreed.

Sorry for the rant! I hope you're both having good days.

I had a bit of a hectic time yesterday morning since the usual route to the airport was closed. My GPS took me off the highway into the downtown business area and then promptly lost me. I could tell from the directions and streets it showed that it no longer could locate me. I decided just to go by my sense of direction - go north and east - until I recognized where I was and found airport signs.

I packed up my breakfast at home and took it with me and I was glad of that since there wasn't any place open at the airport except the coffee stand. Fortunately I did have time to stand in that long line and get my morning coffee before the flight boarded.

I met up w/ 3 of the other ladies in the lobby while I was checking out the restaurant menu so we ate together. After dinner it was already quite late Boston time so I headed back to my room. There is a very deep soaking tub so I had a nice soak and then used the body lotion from the hotel and went to bed feeling very pampered.

Today the meetings start w/ breakfast at 8. The beach is a 5 minute walk from here so I think I might head over there for a nice walk in the sand before we start.

Here's where we're meeting for breakfast.

Mema - nice pool. Is that a float platform in the middle?

I always look for shady places around a pool since I don't sit in the sun. I don't see any in your photo.

Wanted to show you the pictures of our pool down here! It was a beautiful evening and another couple that I know showed up so we chatted a bit. They are from MN.

Hi ladies,

I had a long trip but it went well. Iím all off schedule w/ the time change. I think Iíll get some dinner and then take a bath and go to bed early. Well, early on CA time but late for Boston time.

Mema Ė Olive Garden is nice although Iím not eating bread now so itís a temptation.

We donít ask about topics to discuss at our meetings. One meeting has a different speaker each week, the other two have readings that we use as the basis for the discussion.

Leslie Ė congrats on one year w/o cigarettes. That's an accomplishment.

I got my toe nails done w/ Iced Mauve.

Had a pretty quiet day today. DH is dealing with an issue with the Investor's Club that he has been talking to me about. It's just a personal thing between some members but he has been emailing and talking on the phone and then talking with me about it to get my opinion. It's almost like High School! People placing personalities over principles! emoticon

Anyway, we just got home from Olive Garden. It was very good. We went for their early dining dinner special. We both got salad, bread sticks and I got the lasagna and DH got the eggplant Parmesan. We did bring back a small box of left overs.

I am going to go up to the pool tonight, when it gets a bit darker outside! Don't want anyone to see me up there - Ha! But I do love swimming up there at night. Something about being outside looking up at the stars. Plus there usually is no one up there, so I have the whole thing to myself. A nice bit of serenity!

I did work on my lists for going up North. I have my overnight bag list, my list of stuff I need to bring back to WI, printed off a copy of my list of the food I have in WI - that kind of stuff. So not a very busy day at all. I do have to unload the dishwasher. I'll do that when I'm finished posting.

Leslie - yes, it was strange not to see the post from Kate this morning. That is one of the things I check on my phone every morning.
Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary of not smoking!!! emoticon I have still maintained my 8 or less cigarettes/day. Usually I'm less, I would say 5 out of 7 days it's less than 8. So I figure I'm doing well. Especially since I don't want to quit yet.
I chuckled at the name of your toenail polish! Cute name.
I think I've heard of that show Rake - maybe my DH has watched it.
I hope you had a lovely day of sunny weather. Ours was nice, too. Although it was 96, the humidity was low. That makes such a difference.
Glad you and Kate were able to make the connection on FB to be friends.

Kate - Hope you are having a great time at your retreat. Will look forward to hearing about it when you can.

Happy Friday!!

Mema - it is odd to not have Kate's post here today.
I'm glad you like your new rugs for your bathroom. It sounds like a pretty room.
Lucky you, going to Olive Garden tonight! I will be ordering Chinese food for myself soon. I had promised myself I would get it for a treat when it was a year since my very last cigarette, but I forgot on Tuesday which was the day. I had some chicken thawed anyway, so needed to cook that. I may order it over the weekend.
I had my pedicure this morning, and now have lovely rosy toenails! The colour is called Rose at Dawn, Broke by Noon! I get a kick out of that. emoticon
The show I've been watching on Netflix, now that I've finished with Blacklist, is Rake which is about an Australian lawyer who gets into all sorts of scrapes. It's quite funny at times, but also has a heart. I am enjoying it. There is quite a lot of foul language which may offend you. Thank you for telling me about Frontier.
We are having a gorgeous day today, sunny and in the 60s, but tomorrow will be in the 40s again, with rain. I guess that's spring...
I hope you're having a good day!

Kate - I hope your trip is going well, and I'm glad we're finally friends on Facebook.

Well, I did get my house cleaned while my DH ran his errands and I also worked a little bit on my pictures. I had ordered 2 new bathroom rugs (the memory foam kind) and those came today! Very nice, I'm going to like them. They are pink! My bathroom is pink and yellow.

Tomorrow DH is taking me to Olive Garden for their Early Dining special! That will be nice!

Nothing else really exciting happened today, so not much to report I guess. That's OK - don't need anything "exciting" in our lives right now! LOL

Leslie - I know what you mean about having a clean place. I always love it once my house is all cleaned!
I'm glad you were able to get to your exercise class. I haven't done anything since Zumba stopped. I do need to get back to doing something.
I hope your weather does warm up for you. We're supposed to get some rain overnight, but not sure it will happen. We have one weather man who loves to predict rain for some reason. Usually it never happens. So we'll see.
I'm glad you are getting your pedicure - I'll be getting mine one of these days along with a hair cut before we leave.
I have been watching a series on Netflix in between my other regular TV shows - Frontier. It's about the early fur traders. It's not a documentary at all. It's pretty good.

Kate - I hope you had a safe trip to San Diego - I hope the weather is nice for you. I think their weather is pretty good year round.
I'm not sure how often my DS will visit the grave, but I'm sure he will and since my dad was in the service, I just felt it was fitting to put both my mom and dad there. I was only at one committal service out there, but I loved it and I know that probably sounds weird, but I like that cemetery. Another weird statement, it feels "right" to me to have them out there and I am awed and humbled when I see all those white marble stones. The cemetery is right across the street from the Mpls. Airport, so I see it often. I know that I will go out there when I go to the cities and I'm sure there will be times when my DS will go with me and my DIL's grandfather is buried there, too.
At our meetings, we also have a written out "script" and several readings we do, so leading the meeting is not hard at all. The only thing people don't like about leading is that the question is asked if anyone has a topic they wish to discuss and if no one says anything, then it's up to the leader to decide. And people don't like to have to pick the topic, I guess. Generally, there is one gal who leads, but she is gone now for several weeks. Up North, there is one leader for each particular meeting. If that person has to miss for some reason, someone else will fill in or if one person has been leading a meeting for a long time, they will ask if someone else wants to take over.
Sorry about your perennials not doing so well. I am surprised to hear about your asparagus and rhubarb! That is way early for MN/WI yet. One of the reasons we used to like to leave TX in April is because everything is still bare and we can get the yard cleaned up before things "start growing" once again. But with our parents over the last several years, that was not an option, so our yard has suffered a bit.
I will miss seeing your post first thing in the morning, too! But will look forward to it in the evening if you have had a chance.

Enjoy your day!

Sorry for not posting yesterday - my housekeeper was here, and we spend so much time talking that I have a lot less time to be online. It was good to have her here, and have a clean apartment again!

Mema - you really have a LOT of pictures! I have a lot too, and dread going through them, but will need to start on those after I finish a couple of other projects I'm working on now.
How great that that pastor will do the service at Ft. Snelling; I'm sure that was a huge relief for you.
I hope your aunt will be able to be there too.
I'm glad you have a date set for leaving.
I'm happy for you that you were able to talk to your DS and the kids. I'm sure they do miss you.
I'm sorry you were having a hard time getting to sleep Monday night. You had a lot on your mind.
I'm like you when working through things; I do a lot of sorting first, then deal with the specifics after that.

Kate - you must be busy packing today. I hope you'll enjoy your retreat, and I'm glad you'll have a long flight on the way back so you might be able to sleep fairly well.
I'm very sorry I trashed your friend request - I obviously didn't realize it was you. I don't even remember doing it. I get a lot of requests from people I don't know, so I guess I'm a little quick on the trigger. Maybe I can get help at Facebook. I actually need to look again and see if I'm able to find you there.
I guess you're having your pedicure today; I'll be having mine tomorrow. I'm looking forward to no longer having nude nails!
I'll miss your post tomorrow morning, but it will be good to hear from you when you can write.
I'm sorry you're disappointed in the plants for your butterfly garden. Good luck getting rid of the weeds.
Have a good and safe trip tomorrow!

I went to the exercise class this morning - that was good. We had a lot of rain yesterday, and today it's much cooler, but supposed to warm up to the 60s again tomorrow.

I hope your days are going well!

Mema Ė sorry about the sleepless night. Iíve been falling asleep early but waking up at about 4 AM.

Hope you can come up w/ some good wording for the plaque for the graves. My parents just have names and dates. Is your DS likely to visit the grave often? I only visited my dadís grave a few times when my mom asked me to go w/ her. Iíve never been back since my momís funeral.

In our OA meetings there is a written script for the leader so anyone can do it and we rotate all the time. Do your meetings work the same way?

My lunch w/ my friend is every other week but weíve missed a lot of weeks this winter/spring for a variety of reasons so itís kind of fallen off my radar. I donít automatically think of it when I think about what I'm doing on Tuesdays.

I wonít be posting tomorrow morning b/c Iíll be flying. Iíll drop by later in the afternoon. Today is a busy day getting things done around here. I need to get to the grocery store to stock up for my DH when he gets home. The fridge is pretty bare right now b/c I've been using things up.

Itís supposed to be nice weather so Iíd like to do a bit in the garden if I have time. My asparagus has started to sprout and my rhubarb is 6-8 inches tall. It looks like the loam we put down last fall has weed seeds so Iím going to have to do a lot of hoe work to keep them all from growing. Iíd like to do a lot of that early in the spring before I start planting my flower and veggies seeds. Iím disappointed in the new perennials I planted last fall for my butterfly garden. I can see only one or two of them showing green growth.

Oh, I had a terrible time trying to get to sleep last night. I think I finally fell asleep about 4 am! I think I had too much on my mind after making those phone calls to my aunts. There is paperwork I have to have filled out for that day at the cemetery and part of it is what do I want on the marble marker for my mom and dad. They will engrave both sides. They allow 15 spaces and 2 lines of print. So I was thinking about that. I want to include Wife, Mom, Mema, Grandma and then Husband, Dad, Papa, Grandpa. But I had wanted to include Loving or Loved or something, but I think that's too many letters. The reason I want to include Mema and Papa is because that is what my DS called my mom and dad and he was much closer to them than my niece who called my mom and dad Grandma and Grandpa. So I was counting out letters and spaces while I was in bed last night trying to figure that out. I guess I'm just going to have to go with the names only, which will be OK. I really want the Mema and Papa on there for sure. My DS would call my mom often and just check in. My niece never called her.

So I did go to my meeting and ended up leading it. We talked about growth and change. It was a good meeting. I've got 2 more now and then we'll be on our way. I also spoke with my sponsor on the way over to the meeting (she's back in Iowa).

When I came home, I just did a few odds and ends, nothing special. Tomorrow my DH has some errands to run, so I will get the house cleaned. I will say, he is working on the dining room table, but there's still a mess on it. He tends to take too much time examining everything and if something should need polishing (like a wooded box or pocket knife that was his dad's) he stops and does that kind of stuff. I don't work like that at all. I tend to sort things out into piles and then decide what I need to do with each pile.

Kate - I'm guessing by the time I finish with all of the photos for my DS I will probably have about 50-60 albums. They are small albums - 4 x 6 size, but they do hold 100 photos, so yes, it is a lot of photos. But then he will always have them.
I know the grand kids are busy all winter, but I think they do miss me. I don't video call with them as often as I would like. My DS will usually call me when he is driving home from some place. They live so far out, that it's usually a good 1/2 hour to 45 minute drive, so we get a chance to have a nice chat.
That was lucky that the rain held off for you! Nice how that works out sometimes! emoticon
If I don't put all my appointments or reminders in my phone, I know I would end up probably doing something similar to what you did with the lunch and pedicure. Which reminds me, I want to get a pedicure before we head back to WI. I just go to Walmart, there is a salon place inside the store (totally separate from Walmart), but they do a wonderful job for $25 (including a leg massage and warm stone rub) and the Walmart's up North don't have those, so I would have to go to a regular salon and have paid a lot more.
I hope you have a lovely time on your retreat!

Leslie - I'm sure you are catching up on all your correspondence and getting in some good reading time! Hope all is well.

Have a wonderful day!

emoticon

Mema Ė how great that you found a pastor to do the committal service that knew both our parents. Hope your aunt can heal up quickly so she can be back north in time.

May 13th will be here before you know it.

Wow! 36 albums!! Thatís a lot of photos.

Glad that you got a chance to talk w/ your DS and grandkids. They must miss you all winter long even though you visit them.

Leslie Ė I donít see the option to send a friend request so I think you must have trashed it. Iíll send a private message so youíll have my contact info and can send me a request.

Hope you had a good day reading.

Nice that you had a good talk w/ your DS, too.

Yesterday poured rain all afternoon. I had to run into Boston to get something for my DD. I was glad the rain held off. It started just as I got back in my car.

Today will be yoga class. I missed my classes last week w/ the school vacation. It will be good to be back. I double booked myself for today. I scheduled a pedicure at the same time I was supposed to be meeting a friend for lunch. Fortunately the nail place was able to move my appt. to Wednesday. Sheesh! Itís not like I have a lot of things scheduled and I had to put both of them in the same time slot.

Tomorrow I am packing for a womenís retreat in San Diego. Iíll be leaving here on Thursday morning. The retreat is Friday Ė Sunday. Iíll take the red-eye home so Iíll be here Monday morning. I hope I can sleep on the plane. Last time, I had to switch planes in the middle of the country so I didnít have a chance to settle. This time Iíll switch in LA so the second flight will be ďall nightĒ.

Got my laundry done today and worked on pictures again! I also had to call 2 of my aunts about coming to the committal service this June for my mom and dad. They both said they should be able to come. My one aunt is in Florida and is having some back issues, and had to cancel her flight back to MN that was scheduled for this Saturday. But she's pretty sure she should be back by June. Oh, and not sure if I told you both, but I did get a hold of the pastor that knew both my mom and dad and he said he will do the service at Ft. Snelling. So everything is coming together so far! Yea!

Tomorrow I have my meeting, no church Bible study, so I don't have to worry about being up in time for that! LOL

We have a date when we will be leaving here - May 13th! So 3 more weeks, but they will go fast, I'm sure. I guess it will give me more time to finish my pictures. I still have quite a few to do. I'm not sure how I will get them all back up North. So far I have 36 albums (100 photo's in each) filled up and have quite a few more years to go! When it's all done, it will be a very nice gift for my DS.

Leslie - I was able to talk with my DS yesterday. He called me while they were all driving home from DIL's aunt's house. So I asked to video call with the kids instead. It was so fun to see them. They both wanted to know when we were coming back home. emoticon I miss them both a lot!
I'm sorry there was no exercise class for you. Today is not a holiday for us.
Were you able to get in a lot of reading?
It's nice that you are able to correspond with so many people.

Kate - Your fruit salad sounds like it was a big hit at church! I always find it nice when I don't have much to bring back home with me. That was how my egg bake was. I think I had 3 servings left of that, too. I ended up eating 2 of them, and DH ate the other one.
I'm glad you all had a nice brunch together.
And how nice that your DH's return is the same day you are leaving so the car situation will work out nicely. Although, you won't see each other for a time longer. How long is your retreat and where is it?

Hope you have a terrific Tuesday!!

Mema - I'm glad you had a pretty relaxing day yesterday. The service yesterday morning sounded wonderful.
I'm glad the breakfast was good and there was plenty of food.
Were you able to talk with your DS yesterday? It sounds as if they were having a very busy day! I was glad I had picked a good time to call mine yesterday, just before they returned from brunch so he called right back, which surprised me when the phone rang so soon after I had called!
I don't play games online. I correspond with a LOT of people, and get a lot of newsletters and things I am interested in reading.
I'm glad Walmart wasn't terribly busy. When I go on my own, I always go very early too, and it isn't too bad, but when I go with someone else, it's always later, and much busier!

Kate - I will watch for your friend request at FB. I just hope that if I did see the previous request from you, I might have marked it as spam, in which case you won't be able to send another request. I hope I didn't do that, but when I get requests from people I don't think I know, and there are no mutual friends, I usually just delete them. I hope we'll get it sorted out soon!
I'm glad you had a chance to talk to your sister.
It's great that your DGS laughed at himself for walking past the basket.
I'm very happy you were all able to be together for the brunch.
I'm glad it will work out for you to leave the car at the airport on Thursday, and for your DH to pick up your DGS on Friday.
How long will you be gone for your retreat? Is that the one you mentioned in San Diego, after which you had hoped to have a vacation?

It's a holiday again here today, so no exercise class. I am looking forward to reading this afternoon.
I hope you both have good days!

Mema Ė sounds like you had a nice holiday. The Son-Rise service sounds interesting. Hope your DS had a chance to call. My sister called while we were at the restaurant but I didn't get to my phone before she hung up. I called her back in the evening for a little chat.

I ďhidĒ the basket but not all the individual treats. It only took him a few minutes to find it. But it was funny b/c he walked past it the first time and then came back. He was laughing at himself for doing that.

My fruit salad was almost finished off. There was only about 2 servings left.

Leslie Ė I did find you on FB before so Iíll send another request. I am there w/ my name Katherine Botzko with Kate in parentheses.

Glad you got your books. I had a couple books delivered during school vacation week for DGS.

Nice that you got to talk w/ your DS on Easter.

I did see your posts on the April Goodies. Thatís a quicker way place to just check in than here on the chat.

We had a lovely brunch at a restaurant w/ the two kids, DGS and DSís GF. It made for a very relaxing afternoon. The morning was a bit hectic w/ the early church service and the breakfast beforehand. I got all my fruit cut up and mixed in good time to head over w/ DH. He had to be there a bit early for choir rehearsal so I got some stuff done in the church office, too.

Iím taking DH to the airport express bus this morning for a flight to Austin. Heíll be coming home on Thursday evening. Iíll be headed out to a womenís retreat on Thursday morning so Iíll drive to the airport and leave the car for him to pick up. DD is working late on Friday so DH will pick up DGS from school on Friday and keep him until Saturday afternoon. Nice ďguysĒ time for them.

I had a pretty laid back day today. My morning was busy, but the rest of the day I just relaxed! It was nice. I went to the SON-rise service at 7 and then DH came for the 8:00 service. Our SON-rise service started outside in front of the church and we carried a small cross and a candle into church. Right before we entered the church (all the lights were still off) we lit the candle and then proceeded down the aisle of church until the candle was at the front. Then all the lights of the sanctuary were turned on. It was rather unique. I've never been to anything like that before. There were readings outside and then we sang a hymn after we were all inside (and the lights were on! ). Then some responsive readings and we were finished.......it was actually like a pause before continuing with the next service. That service was more of a regular service.

Our breakfast was very good. We had plenty of food for everyone, plus some! I'm not sure when I'll talk with my DS. They were going to his step-mom's house at 11:30 and then come home so DGS could nap, then off to DIL's aunt and uncle's house at 4:00, so they were going to have a busy day. I texted him last night and said if he had time, to give me a call. It was going to be easier for him to call me than vice versa since we were just going to be home relaxing.

Leslie - I have a friend who cut way back on her online time, too. It certainly can take up a good portion of your time if you're not careful. I've had that happen to me plenty of times - usually I'm playing games on my phone and before I know it, an hour or longer has gone by.
I'm glad you were able to talk with your son today. Hopefully I'll be able to do the same.
When I went to Walmart yesterday (Sat.), it wasn't nearly as busy as I thought it was going to be. I was there about 8:30 in the morning, so I think that helped, plus so many of the winter Texans are gone now. But this is also the week all the wealthy Mexicans come up from Mexico and spend the week here. Many of them have places out on S. Padre Island - so sometimes that can make places busier.
My DH did say I looked nice in my dress - he didn't see me until he got to church later.

Kate - I agree with Leslie, your fruit salad does sound delicious. We only had one person bring fruit for our breakfast and there wasn't a whole lot of it either. I was surprised.
I hope you had a lovely lunch! And having it at a nicer place for your DD is a bonus, I think!
Were you going to hide the Easter basket for your DGS? I remember doing that for my DS so many years ago! As I've been going thru my pictures each year has pictures of dyeing Easter eggs - fond memories!

Enjoy the rest of today and have a wonderful Monday!

Happy Easter to you both!
My apologies for not posting for a couple of days. Sometimes I get impatient with all the time I spend online, and just get away from my laptop for a couple of days. I have not been doing anything exciting other than reading, and today I talked to my son on the phone.

Mema - I'm glad your DH finally got the death certificates!
You have done a lot of work with the pictures.
That service on Good Friday did sound emotional.
I imagine Walmart was busy when you went yesterday.
I'm sure that being gone for 6 months was a very long time for your sister.
I'm sure you looked lovely this morning in that pretty dress.

Kate - I tried to look you up on Facebook but couldn't find you. What is your full name there, and is there a photo of you? If you want to try me again, I am Leslie Crerar, and I think the photo is the same as the one here.
My package of books came from Amazon - it must have come on Thursday, but I didn't hear a knock on the door. I just happened to notice Friday night when I got up to the john that the light from the hall seemed to be partially blocked at the bottom of my door, so I was surprised that the box was there. I'm glad nobody else decided to help themselves!
I'm sorry your pastor lost his mom - that was very young!
You had a busy day yesterday!
I would love to attend a Passover Seder, but don't know anyone here who might invite me, and it's not something I'd be able to do on my own. I guess I am having an Easter dinner of sorts - I will be cooking a chicken leg, and I'm not sure what I'll have with it.
I hope you enjoy the lunch at the restaurant today! That sounds like a special treat.
Your fruit salad sounded very good!
I'm sure your DGS will like the basket you put together for him.

I hope you are both having a very happy day!

Leslie Ė hope youíre having a nice weekend. Do you celebrate Passover at all? or Easter?

Mema Ė Iíll skip the sunrise service in the rain. Weíll have breakfast at the church and then Easter service at 9:30. After the service I have the offering to count and record so it will be noon before Iím done.

We have reservations at a very high end restaurant for lunch at 12:45. All the moderately priced places were filled up by the time we got our act together. Itís OK. We never did get a date set to take our DD out for her birthday dinner so this will count for that as well.

I need to get up soon and put the fruit salad together. I didnít want it to sit around for long so Iím doing it this morning. The berries and grapes wonít take long but I need to cut up the melon, pineapple and other fruit.

I did buy stuff yesterday to put together a basked for DGS. One chocolate bunny and a few candy eggs and a couple of bags of snacky type things. Also a Pez dispenser and a pad of paper w/ some colored pens to write or draw.

Went to Walmart this morning to get the few items I needed for my egg bake. Then stopped at the post office to mail a package to my sister - it's her b-day next Thursday. So she should have that on Tuesday. They left Florida last week-end so they are back in MN. She said being gone 6 months is too long for them. They only left a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. So I'm curious as to what they will do next year. This is only their first year being gone this long, but they were at the same place when they went down there last year. I think it makes a difference when you're just in an RV park where people come and go every year and you never know who your neighbor is going to be. Plus, she said she misses her church friends.

Where we are, it's like a small community. And we've been down here long enough now that we have our church, friends, and daily activities.

After I got home I put some more pictures into albums and got my egg bake ready for tomorrow. I will bake it at the church since I will be there 2 hours before we eat.

I will have to be up at 5:00 am tomorrow!! Whew! That's early for me. I'm hoping to be in bed by 10:00 pm. After our service(s), we'll have our breakfast and then come home. We're not having anyone over since the relatives that were here are all gone now (some literally, some just back up North). emoticon

Kate - You did have a busy day today. Glad you didn't have to do any cooking on top of all you had going. Where will you go out for lunch? Years ago, my family would all go out for breakfast after our Sunrise Service. We would meet my mom's youngest sister and her family at the Pannekoeken Huis. The restaurant has a Dutch theme (duh!) and it was always good! No longer there.
Where is your DH off to this trip?
We're going to have beautiful weather, although it will be a bit windy. Today was another gorgeous day! I was sitting outside and there was a South breeze, low humidity and the temperature was 85 - absolutely perfect! Tomorrow should be the same, but more wind.

Leslie - What are your plans for Easter? Hope you had a good Saturday.

Happy Easter! emoticon

Mema Ė I remember having a service like that on Good Friday years ago. It was very solemn and emotional. This year the church was open for prayer and meditation for several hours but I didnít get a chance to go over.

Weíre having rain and mid 60ís this weekend. Too bad for the outdoor sunrise service.

I have a whole long list of stuff to get done. First thing this morning is Bible Study and then an OA meeting. Tomorrow we will be out most of the day. There will be a breakfast at the church and Iím bringing some kind of fruit mix so I have to go to the grocery store today. Theyíre doing special music, too, so DH will be busy this morning practicing. After church we have reservations to take the family out to lunch. Then I need to get DH packed up for a trip first thing Monday morning so all the laundry needs to be done today.

Worked some more on my pictures today and will do more after I post this.

We had a Tenebrae Service for Good Friday today (our service was at 3:00 pm). At the end when all the lights are off, we softly said the Lord's Prayer and then we heard the slamming of the book - our pastor was sobbing up at the altar. It was very emotional for him. We didn't have this type of service last year. I suppose it's one of those things like a sad movie where you know the ending turns out good, but it's still sad. I had to focus on something else - I'm terrible if someone else is crying I will, too.

Tomorrow morning I will go to Walmart and pick up the few items I need for my egg bake for Easter and I need to iron my shrug that I'll wear for Easter. I'm going to wear that white/purple dress I got for my niece's wedding.

Kate - It would be nice to be able to leave in April, but that will be wishful thinking, I'm afraid. My DH is still going thru stuff from his dad's house that is sitting on my DR table! I'm resigned to the fact that we'll probably leave the 2nd week of May.
Wow - that is so young for your pastor's mom to pass away! Sounds like there must have been some other underlying condition that they were treating.
Sorry your DGS had such a restless night. Hopefully you'll get a better night's sleep tonight.

Leslie - There is a St. Vincent de Paul in Rice Lake - up in WI. But there is also a very nice Goodwill in the same town, so I tend to go there to drop off my stuff. I should go over to that store this summer and see what kinds of things they have or would need.
I hope you and Kate become "friends" on FB, so then, yes, she can let me know if/when you pass - BUT I surely hope it's not for a LONG, LONG time!
I was talking with my son a couple of days ago and while we were on the phone, he mentioned it was pouring rain there. But I think tomorrow they will be in the low 70's for a high. That will be nice for them.

Well - better get back to my pictures - actually it has been quite fun to look at all the old pictures of when my DS was so little!

Happy Saturday!

Mema Ė hooray for finally getting the death certificates. Hope the rest of the transfer details work out w/ out delays. You might still be able to leave Texas in April.

Youíve really been working hard this last week. Enjoy your day today.

Leslie Ė my last name is Botzko if you want to send a friend request.

Thatís a long break for the postal workers. (Ours only get Sunday off.) The mailboxes will be stuffed on Tuesday.

Nice that youíre getting two new books. Sounds like a nice relaxing day.

We went to church last night for Maundy Thursday service. DGS spent the night w/ us so he came along and helped hand out bulletins at the door.

I donít think I mentioned that our new pastor lost his mom recently. She had taken a bad fall three Sundays ago and broken her arm and leg and had a concussion. She didnít seem to be responding to treatments very well so he flew home two Sundays ago. She died on that Monday so he had time to see her but not much more. She was only 64 so it was quite surprising. Anyway Ė yesterday was his first time back in the church and every one wanted to comfort him and his wife.

We got to bed late and then DGS had a very restless night and kept waking me up. Iím really tired today.

I have been putting pictures into albums all day (actually re-organizing the albums I had put together several years ago) after getting all the cases organized up in the attic. I am tired out.

DH did get the death certificates - but the woman whom he had an appt. with was unable to meet with him, so the assistant had to help him. Whatever! At least he has them.

But I'll write more tomorrow. I'm going to bed.

Have a Good Friday!

Mema - your mention of Maundy Thursday reminds me of the priests washing parishioners' feet. I was always in church for this evening and also the Good Friday service tomorrow.
It's a good thing your DH called about the death certificates. I hope he has them now!
I think Goodwill is also a wonderful charity. The one that brought us a box of food one time when we were destitute and truly hungry was St. Vincent de Paul, and I would donate to them now, but they aren't here.
I also hope I'll be around for quite a while! If Kate is on FB, she will be able to let you know if there is a post about my demise!
Our spring has mostly not been very nice this year. We have a heavy rainfall warning for today, tonight, and tomorrow. I don't need to be out, so it isn't a problem for me.

Kate - if you sent me a friend request, I either haven't seen it, or deleted it in error. What is your last name? I will try to send you a friend request.
I had a feeling that the smallest dog may have been the most difficult to walk. I'm glad they had a good run together, and waited for you to catch up.
What are you and DGS doing today? Getting him into bed after tonight's service sounds like a great idea.
I ordered some things from the pharmacy today, but now there will be a 4-day weekend, with holidays both tomorrow and Easter Monday. We never have mail delivery on Saturday, so the postal workers will have 4 days off!

It's a pretty quiet day for me. I'm just getting into 2 new books, so I'm looking forward to reading, and having my tea and cookies.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema Ė Iím impressed you got all the photos finished. It gives me hope that I may get to mine someday.

You guessed correctly about the trampoline park. Everyone gets a wrist band of the color that shows how much time they bought and when they need to stop jumping. DGS really wears himself out.

Leslie Ė I am on Facebook although I usually only check in on two or three closed groups that Iím part of. I rarely check my home page. I sent you a friend request anyway.

Usually we let DGS walk the biggest dog b/c he doesnít pull. Yesterday half way through the walk, he asked if he could switch to the smallest one. (And yes, she is the biggest puller.) He ran w/ her and she trotted alongside him so it worked well. They would stop and rest to let us catch up.

We had a nice day yesterday even w/ the early start. DGS enjoyed his trampoline time.

Today heís going to be here a bit later b/c my DDís first client canceled. But heís going to stay the night b/c she has a late meeting tonight. Not sure what weíll do today. Supposed to be raining this morning.

We have Maundy Thursday service at 7 tonight and then weíll head straight home to get DGS into bed.

I've finished sorting all the pictures, now I will start work on getting my DS's pictures into photo albums for him! emoticon There were a lot of pictures that had no dates on them - or maybe there was a month and day on the processing envelope, but no year, so I would have to compare pictures to see where I thought they would go! It was tough to remember how old he was in the years from about 5-8! Especially since he is 35 years old now - that was quite awhile ago! LOL

DH called the funeral home this morning - he was promised yesterday that the death certificates would be there for him to pick up at 8:00 am today!! He told them he would wait until 10:00 just to be sure. He thought he should call first just to be sure and.....guess what - he was told the courier hadn't come back to the office yet. He asked the gal to call him as soon as the guy arrived. She assured him she would. He finally received a call at 5:30 pm!! The death certificates are there. But too late to go and pick them up. So, he's FINALLY going to go and pick them up tomorrow morning. I'll believe it when he comes thru the door with them in hand. He was told Tuesday, then first thing today, but now can't get them until tomorrow. Almost another whole week wasted!

He has Bible study in the morning and then will head over to the funeral home. I'll be putting up my cases that have all been re-packed into the attic.

We have our Maundy Thursday service at 4:00 and then Good Friday service at 3:00.

This afternoon I had a headache off and on - I did take my headache pills and they helped, but I think I will go to bed early tonight.

Leslie - We have Salvation Army here, too and my DH actually prefers to give them the donation, but the closest store is about 10 miles away and Goodwill is about 1 mile. I've told him if he really wants to give to Salvation Army, he's more than welcome to drop off the things himself! After that, he's OK with Goodwill! LOL
I, too have tossed out about 3 garbage bags of pictures that I know my DS will not want! The one's I have kept for myself mostly have me in them when I was a baby, child, teenager and then some of my mom and dad. When I'm gone, he can decide what to keep of those.
Unfortunately, I'm not on any social media sites - sometimes I would like to be, but other times I'm very glad I'm not. SP is the only "social" site I'm on. I do hope you stick around for a long time, yet! Maybe there would be a way for your DS to close your SP account and if we tried to send you a private email it would tell us your account is closed????? Just a thought.

Kate - Glad you were able to meet your DD so she could give you the "hand off" of DGS! And she was able to make it to court, too! I'm sure that was a huge deal.
I'm glad you were able to all get out for a walk in the nice weather. I do miss the nice spring days up North. But hopefully after this year, now we'll be able to leave the 2nd or 3rd week of April and still have some of those days to enjoy.
How was the play?
And did DGS enjoy the trampoline park? What exactly is that? A place with all kinds of trampolines and you get so much time or how does it work?

Enjoy your day!

Mema - I'm glad you made it to the Bible study yesterday, and got to Goodwill too. The place everyone seems to take things here is the Salvation Army. I emptied out a tote box full of sweaters, and donated all but 4 of them. I don't think we have another charity shop here.
You have done a LOT with the pictures! I found some photo albums I had never used, so when I get to the pictures, I'll have to decide what to put where. I don't want to leave it all to my son or my sister if I can help it. I know that the one day I did go through pictures, I tossed out a garbage bag full that were photos no one else would have been interested in.
I hope the death cert. is there today!
The woman who fell in our class on Monday was not there today, but I hope she's all right!
I do love my howling wolf figurine - the surface is not smooth, but rough as in the coat of the wolf. It's about 7" tall. I have it in a bookcase where I can see it when I look up. I can imagine the Huskies howling too!
I don't think there will be a service after I'm gone - I'm leaving it up to my son to decide. It won't make any difference to me. If there is a service with a song, the one I would love is 'All Things Bright and Beautiful". That would suit my life and my loves.

I wondered if either of you are on Facebook? If not, I don't know how you would know if and when I croak. My son will be posting there. My name is Leslie Crerar there if you are on the site, and if you are, I apologize for all my political posts if you are very conservative - I'm not!

Kate - yes, the mammogram was tough. One of these years I'm going to have to insist on having an ultrasound instead. My poor neck is still sore.
That group sounds perfect for you and DGS - he'll fit right in to the age group. I hope he'll love it!
How great that you were able to help out your DD yesterday by meeting her at the gas station! I can imagine that she was getting stressed about being late, and you were stressed about meeting her! I'm glad she made it to her court date.
How great to have 3 people to walk the 3 dogs! Did your DGS take the smallest one, or is that the biggest puller??
I'm glad your DGS has 2 activities he wanted to do for today. I hope he enjoyed the play, and has fun at the trampoline park.
It's sunny and chilly here today too, but it's supposed to warm up more as the week goes on. I think there may be rain tomorrow.

I hope your days are going well!

Mema Ė nice that you woke up in time to catch the last Bible Study. And youíre certainly getting a lot done w/ your organizing.

Everytime I think of those boxes of photos on my bookshelf, I shudder. I know now why my mom never got around to doing hers.

Leslie Ė mammograms are painful enough w/o having to deal w/ spine issues at the same time. I canít imagine how hard it is for you to get into position.

It was sad to see the photos of Notre Dame burning. I have been there twice although not for services.

Iím not sure how big the group going to Plymouth Plantation will be. It was billed as ďsmall groupĒ. The review from last year were very positive about the kids having fun and making friends. The kids will all be 7 Ė 10 years old and DGS is 8.

The day started off w/ a bang yesterday. DD called to say that there had been an accident ahead of her in the tunnel and she was running 20 minutes late and she needed gas in her car. I suggested that I meet her at the gas station just off the highway so she wouldnít have to drive all the way to our house and back. I rushed to get some clothes on and got there just as she was paying for her gas and she was able to make it to her court date.

There was enough clear weather that we all took the dogs for a walk. Nice to have 3 people and 3 dogs. Usually itís just me trying to keep the 3 from tangling their leashes and getting pulled along.

DGS wanted to go to the trampoline park yesterday but there werenít any openings. I bought a ticket for today so weíll do that this afternoon. This morning there is a play at the library so DH is taking him to that. Itís going to be good weather Ė sunny but chilly Ė so we may walk up to the library.

Busy day again today. I forgot once again about Bible study this morning at church, but woke up in time to get ready and get there. It was the last one for the Lent season, so I'm glad I made it. Then I dropped off the stuff in my trunk for Goodwill and came home. I went thru the last case of stuff that I had from the attic!!

But now, I need to go thru my DS's pictures and get them in date order and then see what I have duplicates of in all those small photo albums. For right now, I put all of my pictures in cases to be put back up in the attic. I'll tackle those at another time (or my DS can when I'm dead! LOL)

Then I took the couple to the airport and came home and rested. I didn't sleep well at all last night, so I was tired. I didn't get my phone call made to the Pastor, but I will do that in the morning.

DH got a call from the funeral home - death cert. NOT in today!! But she assured DH they would be there tomorrow. We'll see....... emoticon

Leslie - sorry to hear about the woman falling in your exercise class, but glad that she seemed OK.
I bet that was hard for you during your mammogram - sometimes I even have a hard time getting and staying in the awkward positions they put you in!
Your wolf figurine sounds lovely - and I know what you mean about it "howling". My sister had 2 Huskies years ago and they would howl occasionally.
Well, you are making progress on your papers - a little bit at a time, it all adds up!
That sounds wonderful about you writing quotes for your grandsons - what a neat idea! When I was driving the people to the airport, the gal said she's been going thru some of her stuff and picking out things she wants at her funeral - things she wants to be remembered for. I thought that was a cool idea, too. She's not sick or anything - just thinking ahead!

Kate - I just looked up the Road Scholar - what a neat website! I had never heard of that before. I'm going to do more looking around on it. That would be an interesting way to take a trip - like your mom did and you also.
Well, you had an early start to your day with DGS coming early and your DS dropping off the dogs early. Hope it all went well and you found something interesting to do with your DGS.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I had the exercise class in the morning and went for my mammogram in the afternoon, so there wasn't a lot of time for the computer.
A woman fell during our class, but seemed to be OK. That's the first time I've seen that.
And the mammogram was an awful ordeal because of the kyphosis - trying to keep my head out of the way is almost impossible. My neck is still sore today. I did get a call from my doctor's office this morning to let me know that all was well with the mammogram, so at least that was good news, and I won't have to repeat it for a year.

Mema - I'm glad you had such lovely weather!
I don't think I could bear to watch Adrift; I'd be very tense throughout the whole thing. I understand why you might not want to watch What We Had.
That Wolf Center sounds wonderful! I have also loved wolves for a long time. I 'adopted' one when I was working in TX, and when I left that job, my good friend there gave me a beautiful wolf figurine - it's white, and apparently howling. I love it.
You have been making wonderful progress with your pictures! I only worked on mine for one day and that was quite a while ago. I seem to always be busy with something - right now I've been working my way through the papers with the data protection roller so they can be recycled. I have lots more to do. When I get through with this big basket of papers, I'll be going through old tax forms and getting rid of the ones I don't have to keep.
I have also been writing out quotes for my grandsons. I got small notebooks for each of them, and am writing out quotes I had saved for myself, but I have other junk in the notebook I've been using, so after I copy the quotes, I'll toss my notebook. I hope they'll enjoy these after I'm gone.
It's nice of you to take the people to the airport. Good for you for planning other errands before and after the trip to the airport. I hope you can get it all done.
I'm sorry you've had some difficulty finding a pastor. Kate had some good ideas. I'm sure it will all get worked out well.

Kate - I have heard of Elderhostel before, but have never participated in it. The trip to Cape Cod sounds good. Do you know if there will be a big group? The whale watching trip sounds especially exciting. It sounds like your mom had some great adventures!
Your riverboat cruise in Germany and France also sounded wonderful, and I know the tides at the Bay of Fundy are quite amazing.
Did you get to Paris when you were in France? I am so sad about the awful fire at Notre Dame! I attended Mass there the Sunday I was in Paris, a long time ago.
I'm glad your DD had yesterday off. I'm sure she needed it!
I hope your long busy day goes well today! Too bad you won't be able to go to the park.

I hope everything is going well for both of you today.

Leslie - hope you had a good day.

Mema Ė my mom was an avid Elderhosteler for decades. Itís nice b/c you see places and learn about them at the same time. A lot of the early ones were at college campuses during school breaks where they would visit local sites and have educational lectures in the class rooms to go along w/ the visits. Now they use hotels instead. In later years, she went on tours to places like Hawaii, India, New Zealand and Tasmania. When I turned 50, I started going on some. Iíve been to a few local day trip ones, but also on a river boat cruise of the Rhine river through Germany and France. This fall, DH and I will be going up to the Bay of Fundy w/ a Road Scholar group.

Hope you can find someone to do the committal service. I know sometimes there are services at our church for people who have been away from the church for so long that very few people remember them. Do you know any of your parents old friends who would have a pastor they could recommend?

Youíre doing an amazing job getting though all those photos. I hate the thought of even starting on mine. Hope you can get through all your errands on the airport trip. That would make a very productive day if you do.

DD says sheís dropping DGS off at early (7:30) so she can be in a court an hour away from here by 9. DS says heís dropping the dogs off early b/c heís having A/C put into his house and theyíre starting today. Going to be a long, busy day. And itís going to be cold and windy, too. So we wonít be heading to the park like I hoped.

Well, I think I have gone thru every case that I needed to in the attic......but, my work is not done yet. I've got one last case to sort and then figure out what will need to go back up. I went thru a ton more pictures today and also sorted more knick knacks that I can give away tomorrow. I'm feeling really good about all the stuff I have gone thru! There's still a lot of work, but I'm making headway. Oh, and I also found 25 small (4x6) photo albums that I had put pictures into for my son from the year he was born thru his 4th birthday. Seems like a lot of pictures for just 4 years - yes, that's a lot of pictures! But that is what my family did - take pictures. At least I'm feeling like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! This will be a HUGE project completed before we head back to WI.

I have to bring DH's cousin and wife to the airport as they are flying back to the Twin Cities tomorrow, so I'll stop at Goodwill before picking them up. They live just down the block from us, but that way the car should be nice and cool (even tho' it's in the garage, it still gets hot).

If the death cert. are in of my FIL's, I will stop and pick those up on my way back from the airport. I will be driving right by the exit to the place. Hopefully, they will be there!

Don't know if I mentioned this or not, but I tried calling the Pastor who did my mom's memorial service to come out to the committal, but he has taken another call on the East side of WI, so he can't make it. I then put in a call to the previous Pastor (he was there when my father and mother were alive, but my dad never really went to church much) - I left a message at the church, no return call. So last Tuesday, I called again. I did get to speak with him and told him what I was looking for. He was on his way to pick up his daughter, would check on the date and call me back. I haven't heard back. He didn't seem to remember my parents, but it was awhile ago and they were older and not real active other than my mom attending services in the summers. I'm not sure if he's forgotten to call me back or doesn't want to do this. But I probably should call him back, right?

I put in a call to Ft. Snelling to see if they had any clergy on staff there, but they don't.

Kate - yes, the movie was sad, but there was a bit of a happy ending. It was amazing what that young woman went thru for 40 some days at sea!
Your Cape Cod trip sounds absolutely delightful!! I've never heard of Elderhostel or Road Scholar before. What a great trip for grandparents and grandchildren.
I did hear on the news that it was a soggy morning for the marathon.

Leslie - hope you had a nice day - reading, relaxing or catching up on things!

Have a wonderful day!

Mema Ė how nice to have a Ďperfectí day and the chance to sit out and enjoy it between loads of laundry.

I read a bit of the story behind that movie Adrift. Too sad and heartbreaking for me. I like happy endings not tragedies.

I hadnít thought of using a chiminea for burning papers. Those are allowed around here. My DS had a big patio put in last summer and has one.

Leslie Ė the Catholic churches here do the same thing w/ the ashes. Lots of people w/ smudgy foreheads on Ash Wednesday.

Thatís a scary story about the burn barrel having oil in it. Glad it didnít set anything on fire.

The trip to Cape Cod is with a group called Road Scholar (used to be Elderhostel) and itís designed for grandparents and grandkids. So it will be the two of us and DGS. Weíll visit the Plymouth Plantation restoration village and Indian settlement and then weíll go to an oceanographic institute and on a whale watching boat trip.

Iíll have to look up that book. I love books that make me laugh.

Today is a state holiday, Patriotsí Day, to celebrate Paul Revereís ride and the first battles of the American Revolution. There are re-enactments of the battles and other celebrations but of course the big news is about the marathon. Unfortunately, itís going to be a nasty rainy morning. We just heard a bit crack of thunder here.

DD doesnít have to work so Iíll be free today to get some stuff done. The rest of the week will be busy w/ DGS here.

After church this morning, there was a voter's meeting so we stayed for that. No major issues so that was good, but it was rather long. I did get my laundry done, but didn't get the ironing done. I will do that this week sometime.

We had an absolute PERFECT day here. Sunny, light breeze, low humidity, low dew point and about 80 degrees! It was just lovely. I sat outside off and on during laundry loads. It's supposed to get down to 59 or so tonight, so if I get up in the attic tomorrow morning, it should be nice and cool.

DH and I watched a Netflix DVD tonight - Adrift - it was a true story of a young couple who were sailing a boat across the ocean and ran into a hurricane. It was very good.

Leslie - I'm fascinated by wolves. I'm hoping this summer or next to go up to Ely, MN - there is the International Wolf Center and they have a huge area where their wolves run all around and camera's situated all over. Plus they have a large center with information. They actually have live webcams that you can look at online and watch the wolves. DH and I saw one years ago right along the highway when we were coming back from the cabin. It was rather interesting. Wasn't expecting to see him right along side the road.
That movie you watched sounds good, but I'm not sure I could watch it. It might hit too close to home for me right now. The 28th of this month will be 1 year since my mom passed. I will be bringing flowers for the altar at church. I'm reading that Sunday as well.
I usually use chicken in my stir-fry's too, but this winter I was low on chicken so I used a boneless pork chop and it was good.
I just found out that we also use the ashes from our palm fronds for Ash Wednesday. I had never heard of that nor did I know that - it was in our bulletin this year on Ash Wednesday.

Kate - I, too love big old houses. Yours sounds great! I've never lived in a home with a 3rd floor.
I think about twice a year, the town of McAllen has a free shredding day. We've never used it before, even before we had our chimnea. I would divide my things up into different trash bags, but now we keep a small fabric box (the kind that fit into shelves) right by our back door that goes out to the deck. When it gets full, DH burns it.
Having a vacation on Cape Cod sounds so lovely! Do you rent a place out there?
I'm sorry your DGS seems stressed. He does have long days, so it's nice that he can be with you this week and relax and have some fun! The activities at the library sound like they would be fun things for him.

Happy Monday!

Mema - I'm glad you had a productive day yesterday. You're really making good progress with your pictures. That's another thing I need to do. I'm glad you can get into your attic in the mornings.
I'm glad you had the pork chops - I bet they were good grilled too. Adding potatoes to the pork chop/sauerkraut/onion meal sounds good - I'll try that next time I make that meal.
I was reading a book I've had for a week or two, Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat (a Canadian writer). He spent time in Canada's far north studying wolves, and some of his observations are really hilarious! I'm glad I'm not reading the book on public transit - I keep bursting out into gales of laughter. I'll probably finish that book today and then I can start the one my volunteer brought yesterday, called There There by Tommy Orange. I know it's about Indigenous Peoples, and I think it's autobiographical, but haven't really had a good look at it yet.
I watched a wonderful movie on Netflix last night called What We Had, about an older couple in which the wife has some form of progressive dementia, and the family really struggles about how to best care for her. Blythe Danner and Hilary Swank are in it. It brought me to tears, but was very well done.

Kate - your big old house sounds like the one I lived in during my high school years. It also had a third floor - my brothers shared the insulated room up there, and there was a bathroom, and lots of shelves for storage, and a big 'attic' room where our trunks were kept, and boxes full of who knows what. I like big old houses. We had a basement too, and had chunks of coal down there that we burned in the fireplace. The coal lasted a lot longer than wood.
Your poor DGS - those are very long school days for him! No wonder he needs a break. It's too bad your DD can't also get a break.
When I lived in Grand Rapids, MI, everyone had a 'burn barrel' at the back of their property along the alley. My husband got us a new one - unfortunately it had been used to store oil prior to our having it, so the first time I went out to burn our garbage, the flames shot up about 40 feet into the air - I was terrified. Thank God there was no wind that day!
I wish we had a shredding event here in town! I detest shredding.
I don't think I've ever used pork for a stir fry but it sounds good. I've only used chicken, or if I'm making fajitas, I've used beef too. That meal with the diced pork chop sounds good too!
When you go to Cape Cod this summer, is the whole family going, or just you and DH?
Those events at the library sound interesting, if your DGS is up to it.

Happy Palm Sunday. We used to get small crosses made from the palm fronds when I went to the Catholic church. Then those would be burned and the ashes would be used for the next Ash Wednesday.

I hope you're both having good days; we're getting sleet at the moment!

Happy Palm Sunday. Our church decorates w/ potted plants (tulips and daffodils) that people donate money for. After Easter they can take them home or leave them to be taken to shut ins. The ushers will be handing out small palm fronds at the end of the service.

Mema Ė when we first moved into this town, we could get a burn permit. Then there was a space of a few years where we were in drought conditions and they stopped all burning. And they never started it up again.

Nice to be making progress on a big project like your attic.

Our house is a big old place. There is a basement that has field stone walls. It used to get a bit of water (about Ĺ inch) on parts of the floor before we had the gutters redone so we were limited in the places we could store stuff. Right now itís only our tools, outdoor stuff, and some of my DDís things she dropped off and doesnít want back right now.

We also have a 3rd floor that goes over about ĺ of the house. The big front room is insulated and finished so my DH has his office there. The big back room is only semi-finished and is full of shelving for storage. Off of that room, we have two Ďatticí spaces under the eaves. Thatís where we store suitcases, and stuff the we can hang from the rafters.

Leslie Ė oh, I hate shredding paper. Our town has an event twice a year for recycling, etc. They bring in one of the big shredding trucks and every resident can bring in one box full of papers to dump into the machine. But I also do your tear it up method. Iíll rip out the portion that has half or more of the sensitive numbers and put it in the kitchen trash (wet and yucky) and put the rest into my paper recycling bag.

Iíll use sliced pork chops for stir fry usually. I also have a recipe where you dice the pork chop and sautť the meat. Then make a small amount of sauce from pesto and diced plum tomatoes. You add the meat to the sauce. Itís served over spaghetti squash w/ some crispy bacon bits on top.

DGS used to like to have stories read but since heís been in school, there is a requirement for reading every day so it seems like homework for him and he doesnít like that. I do have 3 books ordered that are background for our trip to Cape Cod this summer so if they come in time Iíll read those.

I did check w/ the library and they are doing a play one morning and they have a crafty event one day, too.

I think my DGS is just stressed out b/c my DD is stressed out and working lots of long hours. He's in school from 8:15 to 6PM every day. I think he just needs time to unwind and rest.

Had a busy, but productive day today. Had some errands to run this morning and when I got home I cleaned the house. I also had 3 small "shirt boxes" of pictures I wanted to go thru. I just sorted those into 2 piles. One pile for DS and one pile for me. Later I'll get them into date order.

Tomorrow I'll do laundry and hopefully get my ironing done as well.

I feel like I am making progress on the attic, but I still have some things to go thru. If I can get into the attic a few mornings when it's still cool up there, that will be nice.

Leslie - We're fortunate that we can burn the paper that has account numbers and such on them. Otherwise I think I would look into getting one of those "data protection rollers". Sounds like you got a good start on those checks of yours. It's funny to see the difference in the spelling of certain words from the US to Canada - like cheques and checks.
What a difference a day makes sometimes in how things can work out. DH was able to mail his sister the paperwork she needs to fill out for the transfer of the car. I went to the post office for him and sent all of that in a priority mail envelope, she should have it by Tuesday.
Thanks for letting me know how you cook your pork chops - that's what we had for dinner tonight, but I grilled them. It was 90 degrees here and I didn't really want to run the oven if I didn't have to. I, too love pork chops and sauerkraut. We add potatoes to the whole mixture, as well.
Hope you were able to get in some reading after your library volunteer brought you a new book to read.

Kate - Yes, I am getting restless and wanting to get home. We're seeing more and more people packing up. Last Wednesday Lent service we had 32!
Do you have a basement at your house? You mentioned your attic - up North where we are I think everyone has a basement and that's usually where a lot of their storage is. I can't even remember going into an attic in all the homes I lived in up in MN and WI. There are no basements down here - I think the water table is too high. We're pretty much at sea level. And our frost line in a lot of areas is only about a foot or two deep, so there's no need for a basement from that standpoint.
I hope you find some interesting things to do with your DGS. Did he say why he didn't want to go to any of the camps? Just curious.

Enjoy your Sunday!

emoticon
Tomorrow for Palm Sunday, all of the end of our pews at the center aisle will have very LARGE palm fronds taped to them. Then they actually make an arch over the aisle - it's pretty neat to see.

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I have a new 'data protection roller' to obliterate personal info on papers, bills, etc. so I am using that instead of shredding - shredding is very time consuming and can get frustrating when there's a paper jam. I started doing it yesterday and got to a stack of old cheques, which have the same bank account number on them that is still my account, so that took quite a while. I should have just torn them in half and tossed each pile of halves into different garbage bags which would go down the chute at different times. Anyway, I've made a start with that basket.

Mema - that was an awful day for your DH on Thursday! I'm so glad the situation with the death certificate has now been worked out! And it's great that he got the car back so quickly and at a reasonable cost.
I'm sorry your DS got more snow. We are expecting it tomorrow, but just a couple of inches.
I use the bone-in pork chops for breading. I dip them in egg beaten with seasoned pepper and garlic powder, then get them into the mixture of half bread crumbs and half Parmesan cheese. Then brown each side in olive oil for about 5 minutes/side, then put the frying pan into a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes, turning chops half way through. I find them quite tasty and sometimes have them with applesauce. I use boneless chops when I put them in the crockpot, with seasonings, a layer of sliced onion, and the contents of a tin of sauerkraut. I like those too.
I do have tea every afternoon now. My mother always used to have tea in the afternoons too. I just started it a couple of years ago. In the summer I usually have iced tea, and if it's a very cold day in winter, I like hot chocolate.

Kate - Mixed berries sound good! You could always include grapes too.
I have also had dizziness due to an ear infection, but I don't think that's it this time. I actually have felt much better yesterday and today.
If you slice or dice the boneless pork chops, how do you use them? In a stir fry?
I think it's wonderful that your DH can retire whenever he wants! As Mema said, that would make it a lot easier to go to work. I hope the merger will be good for him.
I hope you're having a good time with your DGS today. I'm surprised he turned down the offers of the sports camp or the swim camp! I hope you find other things he might enjoy. Maybe the library has something going on that would interest him. Is he a reader?

My library volunteer will be here soon with another book the library has been holding for me, and I have 2 books for her to return.

I hope you're both having good days!

Leslie - hope you had a good day reading and that the dizziness is gone.

Mema Ė so nice that the death certificates are done and almost ready to pick up. I hope all the other things that need to be done will move along quickly. I can imagine youíre getting restless and ready to move north.

Our attic also gets hot in the summer. But itís freezing cold in the winter, too. LOL Youíre getting a lot of stuff sorted and organized.

My DGS loves hot chocolate. We make it for him when he spends the night. He drinks it while we have our morning coffee.

Today DH has a leadership team meeting at the church. DD will drop off DGS on the way to her office. Iíll take him to swim class and then weíll have lunch together when DH gets home. Iím not sure when DD will be picking him up. Iíll get the laundry sorted and keep that going until itís done.

Next week is school vacation so DGS will be here all day every day. We offered a few activities like a morning sports camp or an afternoon swim camp but he declined both. Iíll be searching around for some activities to do w/ him.

Well, today was much better for DH. His sister called him and she decided to call the funeral home to get the person she should talk to at the hospital. Long story, short - she was able to get the doctor to sign the death cert. and they will be available on Tuesday for DH to pick up. Amazing!! DH is going to see about getting in touch with their corporate office to let them know everything that has happened with them - but that is in London!

So, now things should get rolling. But it does seem like this year, DH does not have a "fast" speed. I would like to think we could leave here in a couple of weeks, but I'm doubtful. I think it will still be in May.

I went up into the attic this morning and it was pretty cool up there yet, so I got down about 5-6 cases and went thru them in the house. I've got a trunk full of stuff to bring to Goodwill tomorrow. I still have more to get at up there, but I made a good dent in it. I was glad about that. I guess even with our hot weather, the key is to get up there in the morning before it has time to warm up - it gets hotter than blazes up there real fast! LOL

Kate - I'm a hot chocolate drinker if it's cold outside - I do like holding the warm mug in my hands, too.
I have found with the boneless pork chops, I brown them and then bake them in the oven (covered) and they don't seem to dry out as much.
Nice that your DH seems to have the flexibility to work if he wants or not. Sometimes just knowing you can leave when you want, makes it easier to go to work.

Leslie - hope all is well!!

Enjoy your Saturday!

Leslie Ė Iíll see what looks good at the store just before Easter. Most of the melons arenít really flavorful yet. Perhaps Iíll just do mixed berries.

Hope your dizziness continues to be better. When I get dizzy, itís my ears that are the cause.

I like to have tea in the afternoon Ė particularly in the cold months. Itís comforting to hold a warm mug of tea.

Mema Ė so sorry your DH had such an awful day. It does sound like that funeral company should be reported to the BBB.

Nice that he had one bright spot w/ his car being fixed quicker and cheaper than he expected.

The big pork chops Iíve gotten were boneless so itís a lot of meat. Iíve heard that bone in chops cook up more moist and tender b/c of the bone. But I usually get the boneless ones b/c I will often slice or dice them up rather than cooking them as chops.

The meeting w/ the adviser went well. He had a lot of suggestions for small shifts in our investments. My DH is 67 so he can retire whenever he wants. Right now, the company he works for has merged w/ another one so all the roles are changing. If he likes the way things work out and he enjoys the new role, heíll stay on and work for another few years. If he doesnít like it or finds itís getting to be too much for him, heíll retire. Just depends on how he feels.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

Well, this has been one crappy day for DH. First off - he called to see if the death cert. were in. No they were not. He asked when they would be and now was told that the funeral director hasn't even gotten back the forms from the doctor on the death!!!!!!!! The funeral home said the director has tried 3 times and is waiting on the hospital. (Personally, I have my doubts) My DH kept his cool, but basically told them that was unacceptable and it was their responsibility to keep him informed and he would be contacting their corporate office to see if they can get this resolved - so ALL THIS TIME, it hasn't been the state of TX, it's actually been the funeral home because they haven't even submitted the form(s) to obtain a death certificate!!

I didn't say this to DH, but now he knows what I went thru with this company in trying to get that plaque for my mom. I told him back then I would NEVER recommend them to anyone and at that time he said, well they did do all the cremation stuff right and all of that. Well, now he's gotten a taste of what I went thru. But this place is unbelievable. I said I would never recommend them, in fact I would advise against them. So who knows how long this is going to take.

Then he had a problem with our car insurance co. voiding out his payment check and just taking the money directly from his account electronically w/out advising him of it. He never has automatic withdrawal on bills like that. So he had to get that corrected.

Then he has a problem with the Investor's club president who wanted to bring up a very sensitive issue at their meeting today and DH said not now, wait until the officers could talk about it first. Then the president said if he couldn't do that he might have to quit, but DH talked him out of that for now.

Then, we went out to dinner - that did go well, but on the way home he stopped to get gas at 3 different places and none of them would accept his credit card so he has to call about that.

So, I'm going to let him be for the rest of the night. He did get his car back from the mechanic today - that was a good thing - he wasn't expecting it until Saturday and it was less than what the owner told him.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better for him. My day was good. I sorted some more pictures and got my sister's b-day presents wrapped and boxed up to send off to her. I also have another box of stuff to mail to my DS's house of things of mine that I want up north. I'll mail those things next week.

My DS emailed me a picture of the snow they got! Quite a bit for April and it was pretty windy out where they are. I've attached a picture! Looks like Christmas - not spring! LOL

Leslie - I'm not sure why that woman volunteered either to do the supper. But if we do this again next year, I think we'll figure out something else for her to do.
Your pork chop with the bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese sounds good. How do you fix it?
Do you have tea every day? I used to clean for a woman who was from Canada originally and when I would be at her house, about an hour and a half into my cleaning she would tell me it was time to take a break and have tea with her. She was such a fun lady to clean for and we got to be good friends. I still talk with her on the phone occasionally. She is living in Arkansas now.

Kate - Our church has 2 stoves - regular size, but 8 burners all together and so we also have 2 ovens. Which comes in handy as we can have items on separate temperatures, which we have done often.
Fruit down here is one of the things we usually have plenty of. The pineapple's this year have been sooo juicy and sweet.
Wow - almost a pound of pork in one chop! That is a lot. Well, I suppose that includes the bone? Or do you get boneless? I prefer the bone in as they are more flavorful but DH prefers boneless, so we buy both.
I hope everything went well with your financial advisor. My DH has always done is own investing and saving, but that was always something that interested him. Part of why he's in the Investor's Club. He's working on where he's going to put the money he gets from his dad's inheritance and this year is the first year of his mandatory withdrawal on his 401K so he also has to figure out where he's going to put that money. It's good that you and your DH were savers - I was never a saver. Good thing DH was/is. emoticon

Happy Friday!!

Mema - I'm glad your cake was such a hit! I feel sorry for the one who was supposed to be putting the meal together. I wonder why she volunteered too. I'm sure she'll be able to handle bringing fruit to the Easter breakfast. I'm glad others chipped in with the meal.
I hope your DH's car gets fixed up completely at the mechanic's.
We have had a bit of snow today, but not inches of it thank goodness.
I'm glad the dew point was low when it was so hot there!
The pork chop was pretty big, about half a pound - too much for me for one meal. It was very tasty - I breaded it with half bread crumbs and half Parmesan cheese.

Kate - What kind of fruit will you bring for the Easter breakfast?
I am thinking the dizziness may be a vision problem. It's better today, but if it goes on I will definitely get checked.
It's too bad you don't have local public transit. I am very grateful for the mobility bus here that takes me around.
I've had Black & Decker products - it's a good company.
I hope your time at the gym went well.

My groceries have just arrived, and now it's time for tea, cookies, and books!

I hope your days are going well.

Mema Ė nice that your cake was such a hit. Does your church have a big stove so the cooking can be done there for things like burgers? Our church has a big one w/ 8 burners.

Iím bringing fruit to our Easter breakfast. I noticed last time that there wasnít any and I missed it.

Glad your DH took his car to the shop rather than working on it further. Sometimes itís nice to have someone else diagnose a problem.

Iíve been seeing news reports on the big blizzard in the middle of the country. That storm may bring us some rain but only a slight possibility of a few flakes in the higher country.

Leslie Ė hope you figure out whatís causing the dizziness. That doesnít sound good.

The local co-op where we get our meat tends to bring BIG pork chops. Iíve complained to them that a 15 oz chop is not really what I want. I have to cut the one chop into a couple of small ones or I cut them up in strips and use them for stir fry.

We live about a block and a half from the commuter train so itís really easy to get into Boston. But there isnít any local public transit if you just want to get across town. Long time ago there were street cars all over the town but not anymore.

The company that made the iron was Black and Decker.

I did get some of my errands done on foot but my hair appointment went long so I needed to walk back home to let the dogs out instead of doing the rest of them. I think Iíll go to town hall today on the drive back from the Y and stop and pick up my dry-cleaning, too.

We have our financial adviser coming over this afternoon. We had some phone discussions w/ him and now weíre going to make some adjustments to our funds. Since DH is so close to retirement, weíre moving into fixed income investments. Iím happy that weíve always been frugal and saved a lot so weíre looking good for retirement.

Iím going to the gym this morning to do my heavy weight lifting. Itís a fairly short routine b/c itís so intense. Even w/ a shower afterwards, I should be home in less than an hour.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

I got my cake baked and only ended up with 3 pieces left! Everyone liked it at church. The gal who's turn it was to put the supper together was a little overwhelmed. But we all helped her and everything got done. She's a bit "flighty" anyway, so her trying to do something like this probably was not the best idea. She asked me what she should bring for our Easter breakfast and when I said she could bring an egg bake, she looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. I told her to bring fruit. She said she wasn't much of a cook - so I'm wondering why she volunteered to do the suppers at church. She had decided on hamburgers, but at 2:30 they were still frozen and the buns were still in the freezer. The gal who is in charge of our kitchen committee was there and got things started. And the other's on the committee brought potato salad, cole slaw, and beans. This woman wasn't very well prepared. Oh, well - it all worked out in the end. Good thing we have one woman who is in charge.

We had to take DH's "new" car (his dad's) to the mechanic today. DH was having a hard time getting it started. Sometime's it started right up and other times it would take several tries. The mechanic thinks it needs a new fuel pump. I'm glad he took it in instead of trying to fix it himself. He did change the spark plugs himself thinking that was the problem.

I got some pictures from my DS today and this evening with their snow. It looked like they had about 5" or so. They are out in the country, so I'm guessing they will have a lot of drifting. I guess it was very windy along with the snow. And more is coming.

We had 96 degrees and wind! But the dew point was low, so it actually wasn't as bad as it could have been. If you were directly in the sun, it was hot, but we sat out on our deck and with the wind, it was OK.

Leslie - I'm sorry you missed exercise. And feeling dizzy and nauseated is not good. I do hope you get it checked out if it continues.
It is rather complicated getting a car title transferred when it is in a Trust. DH is going to call again tomorrow and see if his dad's cert. are in this week. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Wow - that must have been a big pork chop to be able to have it 2 dinners. That is my DS's favorite! He absolutely loves pork chops.

Kate - That is very nice about your iron.
Our Easter breakfast is also a pot luck because we're more likely to have a heavier crowd. The church is providing biscuits and gravy and the congregation will bring the other things. I'm not a big fan of biscuits and gravy, but it's a big hit down here. I'll bring a baked egg dish. I like to make sure we have enough "main dishes". One year we fell short of main dishes so we make sure that doesn't happen. That year the church did not provide any food, but with our new pastor it seems when we do have pot lucks the church is now buying the meat(s).
Was it nice enough to get in all your walking?
Hope you had a good hair appointment - was it just for a cut or something else?

Happy Thursday!

Sorry for not posting yesterday. My housekeeper was here and that takes a big chunk out of my day so I don't do everything I would like.
I've missed the exercise class again today. I am wondering if I have vision problems that are making me feel slightly dizzy and nauseated. If this doesn't stop soon, I will have to get it checked out.

Mema - I really hope you'll get the certificates soon. It sounds quite complicated to get the car's ownership transferred.
I'm glad your devilled eggs were so popular. I think you're right about older eggs being easier to peel.
I'm sorry the woman at your meeting is struggling with the alcohol. 'There, but for the grace of God, go I'. I hope her difficulties will be taken away from her. I have also struggled off and on. I'm happy that the urge has been taken away from you.
I hope the new cord is all that your iron needs.
That really is a lot of cooking for one person! Maybe pot lucks would be easier.

Kate - I did indeed finally cook the pork chop Monday. It was so big that I had the second half of it last night. It was very good!
I'm sorry you missed your yoga class yesterday. You do seem to do well with only one car most of the time! Is there any public transit where you are?
That was very nice of the company to replace your iron when it quit just after the warranty ended. What company was that?
I like to spread the word about good service or products. I wish I had people to tell about the great help I got with my divorce. I did call Danny after the divorce was final to thank him for his help. He seemed very pleased that I had called. I also hope I'll have occasion to recommend my former mechanic, who was great at his job and always treated me fairly.
I'm glad your day at home yesterday went well.
I hope your busy day is going well today, and I hope you'll be happy with your hair.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema Ė oh, those addictive electronic games! Iíve sometimes got caught in one and stayed up too late. But only when DH is away. I canít be sitting up in bed playing games when heís home. But I have sometimes read a book on my tablet way too late at night. I can do that laying in bed w/ the lights out.

We have one person who cooks for the church breakfasts that we have every month or two. But on Easter, people are bringing stuff b/c there are likely to be more people there. I can see that cooking for a whole crowd would be more work than some people want to do.

I had one iron fail on me just a few days after the one year warrantee ran out. I called the company and explained. They said that b/c it was past the date, they couldnít replace it totally for free. But they would send me a new one if I was willing to pay the couple of bucks for shipping. The woman was very apologetic about having to charge me anything. I thought it was very nice of them to do that. One of the ďgood guysĒ. Iím still using that replacement iron all these years later.

I made good use of my day at home and got all the filing done and paid the bills. I have a couple of them tucked into the side of my purse so Iíll mail them when Iím out walking this morning. If the weather is good, Iíll walk to the town center and pay the real estate tax, too. Hum, I should stop over at the church, too. Someone requested a receipt from the church for a donation last January. Oh, I just remembered I have my hair appointment at noon. I guess itís going to be a busy day.

Leslie - hope all is well w/ you.

I totally forgot I had Bible study at church this morning. And I didn't go to bed last night until after 2:00 AM - but I woke up at 7:30 and made it with plenty of time to spare! I was on my phone last night playing a new game - can't be doing that until all hours of the night!!

Then I had my meeting and we still had 14 people there, so that's good. I hadn't seen one of the gals for a few weeks, but she was there today. She really struggles with the alcohol and had gone out and bought a bottle of vodka. But she's back again, so I guess that's good. She did say she wouldn't come to meetings if she was drinking again (which had happened before). When I see that happening to someone it always makes me so grateful that the urge to drink has been taken away completely.

After I got home I finished all my ironing. DH thinks I may just need a new cord for my iron, so he may try that for me. I do like the one I have so I will see if that works. My aunt paid $60 for her new one. I don't buy one's that are that expensive. I've had this one for a long time.

Tomorrow I am baking a cake for the supper tomorrow night. The last one for Lent. It was a nice thing having the dinners each week, but that is a lot of cooking for one person. We may have to change that up if we decide to do this next year.

Kate - There are a lot of "last time" things going on down here. Happens like that every year. I was talking with DH today and he mentioned how he hopes the death cert. come in this week. I said, well once they do come in and you get the banking stuff done that you need to do and the title transfer done, basically we can go back north. He said to me, Yeah, but I don't like to be rushed. (which is actually quite funny because he's ALWAYS rushed even when he knows the exact date we're leaving! LOL)
Sorry you missed your yoga class - it does seem like having the one car doesn't interfere that often for you guys.

Leslie - I hope you were resting and reading today!

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Leslie Ė hope you feel better now and were able to make your porkchop.

I had ham and sweet potatoes for dinner last night. I do like that combination.

Mema Ė seems like youíre doing a lot of ďlast timeĒ things now that spring has come. Hope the death certificates come quickly so youíre not hanging around too late in to the summer heat.

I think there was some other news thing that came out the same time as the cyclone and it was under-reported by the media.

DH is going to the local office of his company for a big event. He'll have the car all day so I'll be home w/ the dogs. I have a bunch of paper work to do and the housecleaners are coming. I'll miss my yoga class b/c I won't have the car. One of the few times it makes a difference only having one car.

Ran a few errands today and did some odds and ends until we had our get together for Investor's Club. It was fun to get together one last time for the season. We had polish sausage, potato salad, chips, deviled eggs, veggies and dip and assorted desserts.

I did do some ironing today, but my iron is giving me a hard time. I plug it into the wall and sometimes it turns on and sometimes it doesn't. Took me about 10 minutes for it finally to stay on. I'll be buying a new one soon.

Tomorrow I have my meeting and should probably finish up my ironing if I can get it to work.

Leslie - My deviled eggs turned out good. Two other gals brought them, too and mine were all eaten, so that was a good sign. The eggs were left over from the fish fry, so they were "older" and I think that helps with the shells. That's what I've heard and it always seems to work.
I'm sorry you weren't feeling well this morning and missed exercise, but I'm glad you felt better as the day went on. I had a bit of a headache this afternoon, but took my headache pills and it went away.

Kate - Very nice to get free bulbs!
Unfortunately we can't transfer the car by mail as it is part of the Trust. Back when DH's father put the car in the trust, it was only a couple of years old and worth quite a bit. But now that it's old, not so much, but was never taken out of the trust. So, in order to transfer it, DH has to have his sister (who is the administrator and lives in WI) sign off on the title and some other papers, (which he has to mail up to her and then she has to mail them back) go down to the DMV in person with all this paperwork (title, copied pages of part of the trust paperwork, gift transfer paperwork, death certificate, etc.) to make this particular transfer. The car is being gifted to DH so no sales tax is charged, but it all has to be done in person unfortunately.
My DH has ordered "Roadkill" from Texas Roadhouse many times. That is one of the meals that is offered on the early dine special. He always said it was good - and he ate the whole thing!
Wow - I hadn't heard about the cyclone that hit. Thank you for the link - that is awful!

Enjoy your Tuesday!

Mema - your beef and bean tacos sounded wonderful! Is the Investors' Club get-together a pot luck? I love devilled eggs, but always worry that the shells won't peel off easily and the eggs will not look good! I hope yours turn out well.
Your hot weather sounds fine to me. I love heat, but it's usually about the end of May before we get hot weather here, and often not until June.
I remembered that you got the purse first, but thought it might have been one that serendipitously matched your outfit too.
Your steak dinner sounded terrific - I love sweet potatoes.
I have a very large pork chop that I had planned to cook last night, but I wasn't feeling great and didn't have the energy to bread it, etc., so now I plan to have it tonight. I wasn't feeling very well earlier this morning either, but seem to be feeling better as the day goes on. I was disappointed to miss the exercise class this morning. I sort of subscribe to the idea of Meatless Monday, but need to be cooking this chop tonight, if it isn't already over the hill.
That's really awful that you are still waiting for the certificates! I hope they will come soon so you can be off on your journey north.

Kate - I also love the fresh air that is coming in! It's a little cooler today, but still quite pleasant. I think it's in the 40s, but not windy.
Nice to get early spring flowers as a freebie!
I think it would be rather creepy to order 'Roadkill' at a restaurant, but it does sound tasty. It's always good to have leftovers.
That cyclone in Africa was awful. I wish I could afford to donate. I have 2 charities I give to every month, but it is a stretch for me to do that.

I will be reading soon of course. I hope you're both having good Mondays.

I donít remember what the bulbs are. Iíll have to go look at the shipping papers from last fall. As I mentioned, they were not something I ordered, just a freebie the company sent.

Leslie Ė yesterday was mid 60ís here and I had windows open in every room to get the fresh air blowing through. Wonderful!

Mema Ė sorry the death certificates havenít come through yet. Hope they donít push your departure that late. Could you simply take the car with you and do the transfer by mail?

Oh, yes! Now I remember you were posting about purple at the time of your momís memorial.

Last time I was at the Texas Roadhouse I had what they called ďRoadkillĒ. It was a chopped steak w/ cheese, mushrooms and onions on top. It was big enough that I cut it and took half home for a second meal the next day.

Sunday was peaceful although the morning was long. We always have communion on the first Sunday and there was a special offering for the people in Mozambique who were hit by that cyclone Idai. We have missionaries in that country and will be sending the money collected through their agency.

Laundry day today. I'm finishing up on that now. We're going to have beef and bean taco's for supper tonight. I had the taco beef meat in the freezer. And I don't have to cook tomorrow night because it's DH's Investor's Club end of the season get together. I do have to make deviled eggs for that.

It was hot here today. And looks like it's going to stay that way thru the week.

Two good shows are on tonight for me. American Idol and the ACM Awards (country music awards). I'll record one and watch the other.

Leslie - The new purse I got was not for the new dress. I actually found that first - just a spring/summer purse. The handles on my other one were starting to get frayed and I didn't want them to break sometime while I was carrying it.
On Texas Roadhouse I did have a steak - 6 oz. sirloin - medium and it was done to perfection! And then I had the sweet potato and house salad. Everything was very good!

Kate - Actually my mom's favorite color was purple, but I seem to be getting more and more of that color. I do like it, but I think my favorite is pink or red.
The trays or baskets for your cubby's (or is it cubbies?) sounds like a great idea! I hope you find something nice.
I'm curious, too as to what kind of flowers you have popping out! I always loved seeing the first flowers of spring. I had crocus and tulips that would come up early.

Oh - DH called last week on his dad's Death Certificates - still not in!! This is truly unbelievable! But really nothing that we can do. The funeral directors, the Justice of the Peace, the doctors - none of them can get them any sooner than when the state gets them done! And DH cannot transfer his dad's car into our names until we get the Death Certificate, which means we can't leave here until that is all complete! We weren't really planning on leaving until the end of April, but we surely don't want to stay much into May! Sheeeesh!

Have a great Monday!!

Mema - welcome back! It sounds like you and your aunt kept very busy, but it sounds as if you were enjoying it all! I'm glad you got a purse, and the dress and shrug, which are lovely. I also like flowery dresses for summer. I bet your shoes will match - that will be very pretty. Is your new purse to go with this outfit?
I'm sorry Dirty Al's wasn't as good as you remembered. That's disappointing. I'm glad you really liked your other dinner out! I've never been to a Texas Roadhouse. Did you have steak there? That was really a large group of you! Did your aunt know the birthday gal well? That SPACEX looks like a very interesting place.
I hope today is going well for you.
I probably will take those cameras out to the bench.

Kate - how wonderful to have flowers popping up now! What are they?
I have the screen door to my balcony open now - I'm really enjoying the warmer weather! It's cloudy today but bright.
Good luck finding baskets or trays for your cubbies.

I am just having a quiet day; I'll be reading soon.
I hope you are both having good days!

Leslie Ė I think most people use their phone cameras unless they are really serious about photography. When I was in my 20ís I got into that for a while and had a really good camera. When it broke, I just switched to a ďpoint and shootĒ simple camera.

How nice to be having some warmer weather. I really like it in the 60ís for being out walking and doing things although thatís not quite warm enough for just sitting out.

Mema Ė nice dress. Do I remember correctly that your favorite color is purple? I do like flowery dresses like that for spring/summer.

Sounds like a nice visit and itís fun to see things like the rockets. Iíve been to Texas Roadhouse a couple of times when I was traveling and I do like their food.

The third cubby will be on my list for this week. I still have a few things I took out of the first two that need new homes. And Iím wondering about putting some baskets or trays in there so I can pull them out and not ďloseĒ things in the back. I'll have to do some measurements and see if I can find something the right size.

Last fall when I bought the perennials for my butterfly garden, the company threw in a couple of bags of bulbs. I didnít really have a place to put them so I dug them into the ground around the place we had a tree removed a few years ago and forgot all about them. A couple days ago I was surprised to see these pretty little things popping up.

Hello!!

I got back home about 3 pm today. Had a wonderful time at my aunt's house. We were very busy, but had a lot of fun.

When I got there Thursday, she was finishing up playing shuffleboard. Once she finished, off we went. She needed a new iron, so we went to the mall. We went to my favorite store Charming Charlie to look for some earrings to match the top I had on. Didn't find any earrings but found a purse that was $42, marked down to $29 and then on sale further for $16! What a deal. There is a JC Penney there and that's where my aunt wanted to go. She got her iron and while she was waiting in line to pay, I wandered over by the dresses. I need a new one for my niece's wedding this summer. I found one I liked and tried it on and it fit perfect! Then I found the shrug to go with it and both pieces were 30% off, so I got them both for just about $60 instead of over $100! I've attached a picture of it. The shrug is a bit wrinkled because it sat in the bag in my trunk for 2 days, but it will get washed! So that was a successful trip there!

I'm going to see if my lavender shoes that I bought for my mom's memorial service will match. Although those are suede and the wedding is in July - might not work.

Then we did drive out to S. Padre Island and shopped a bit. I bought a couple of new sweatshirts. There's a place that always has buy 1 get one free, so for $30 I got 2 sweatshirts. We did eat at Dirty Al's after that, but it wasn't quite as good as when DH and I went, but still OK.

Friday morning a couple in my aunt's park took us out to Boca Chica Beach, where SPACEX is and we drove along the beach. SPACEX is the South Texas launch site of Elon Musk and he's hoping to launch rockets from there. It was really, really foggy out, so my pictures weren't very good. But it was fun to see.

That evening, 35 of us from the park all went to Texas Roadhouse for a b-day party for a gal in the park. It was fun and had very good food there. Came back and went over to one couple's place for cake and ice cream. My aunt and I split a piece of carrot cake and couldn't even finish that!

This morning, it was nice and sunny, so my aunt and I drove out ourselves to SPACEX and I took more pictures. Earlier this year, the top part of the rocket was blown off by high winds. They are still working on that, but we were able to see part of the rocket. Pictures below:

It was pretty cool to see. So, I had a really nice time and my aunt was so happy to have me there as well. Seemed like we were on the go, but that's kind of what we do! It was like that when I would go and see my mom when she lived down there.

Tomorrow is church, Bible study and then I have to do laundry!

Leslie - I think taking your things to the bench is a good idea for your camera's and other things. I think there are a lot of people who like older camera's. And I don't know, but I'm wondering if someone can still get film online - seems like these days you can get just about anything online.
My aunt lives about 65 miles from us, so it's about an hour's drive down.
I hope you had some nice weather today and nicer tomorrow for you. We were in the low 90's today and sunny and breezy. I don't think we'll be having any more cool weather now.
I've heard of the show Arrested Development, but never watched it. I'll have to put that on my list for this summer when all my other shows are on break.

Kate - I did have some of the sloppy joe mix to take home. I put 2 - 32 oz. containers of it in the freezer and about another 1/2 of that in the frig for DH to eat. And he did eat that up while I was at my aunt's house.
Having a dog curl up on your lap and sleeping sounds wonderful! I don't blame you for not getting up.
Nice that you got some of your de-cluttering done! Did you get to your 3rd cubby?
Were you able to walk to your meeting today? I didn't check to see what kind of weather you were having today.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Kate - I know what you mean about the places you don't see all the time being forgotten. I need to finish my large closet. I did the major part of it, but now have a few almost empty plastic bags I need to sort through. And the contents of my desk drawers are also not readily visible - out of sight, out of mind is very true!
Maybe with the cameras, I will take them to 'the bench' where I put things to give away. I don't know if someone else would want them or not. Actually, I should probably just throw one of them out because it takes a film cartridge which I'm pretty sure is no longer available. I think it's about 50 years old! The other one uses a regular roll of film - it's a good camera (Minolta), but I haven't used it in several years. I don't have a digital camera, but use my phone these days to take photos.
I am just considering these things for the weekend, but hope to 'attack' them starting Monday. I have sewing supplies (needles and thread) in the top drawer of the desk, and need to sew up the hem of a shirt before it goes in the laundry again. That won't take long, but it's a distraction from getting through all the items in that drawer.
It's in the 50s today, and will be in the low 60s tomorrow! I'm excited about that!
I always have a good time reading!

Mema - I hope you're continuing to have a wonderful time, and I hope your dinner was great last night! Are you going home today? How far away from you does your aunt live there?
Safe travels.

I've been watching a really silly show on Netflix, called Arrested Development. The episode I watched last night saw them hiring a new lawyer, Bob Loblaw - hahaha! I laugh every time I think of it! Tonight I'll see if I can find a movie to watch.

I hope you're both having good days!

Today DGS will be here for swim lessons. I have an OA meeting.

Mema Ė I hope youíre having a nice time and got to go out to S. Padre Island.

Leslie Ė those places that have doors that close so I donít see them, tend to get cluttered. Those cubbies are usually hidden by doors. But it feels good to have them almost clean. I didnít get anymore done yesterday so I hope to find time to finish the 3rd cubby today.

I also find it hard to know what to do w/ things like your cameras Ė stuff thatís too good to throw away but is not really of value to anyone else.

Hope you had a lovely time reading.

Kate - I can see why you'd want to organize those cubbies - I have a lot of places that look like that, and hardly know where to start. I think your idea of choosing 2 spots to work on for the month is a good one. I need to work on one of the bookcases in my bedroom, and the desk in my bedroom too. I know I have a couple of old cameras in one drawer, and don't know what to do with them - they're not digital... Good for you for making such good progress already. Are you able to do more today?
I am having a pretty quiet day today. I will be getting a delivery from the pharmacy this afternoon, and have been trying to clear out some old emails that were in my inbox.
Once my delivery is here, I want to read of course.
Oh, I cleared out some old items from the freezer and the fridge and took the garbage out this morning, sort of on my way to get my mail. So I have done a little bit!

Mema - I hope you're having a wonderful time. I'm sure the shrimp last night was very tasty, and I hope your dinner tonight will be very good too. I hope you're relaxing - you've earned it!

Enjoy your Fridays!!

Mema Ė hope youíre relaxing and enjoying your time w/ your aunt.

Leslie Ė sorry about the long wait at the bank and for the bus. Good thing you had a book w/ you to pass the time.

Glad you are going to get some warmer weather finally.

I did get to the de-cluttering. I cleared out 2 of the three cubbies in the top of my dresser. I still have one more to do. I trashed a lot of stuff. I have to sort through the things that are left and decide which ones to put back there and where to put the other things.

This is what it looked like before I started.

Mema - I'm glad the meal at church went so well! How nice to get compliments, and I'm glad there were leftovers.
I bet you really are ready for a break! I hope you have a wonderful time with your aunt. Your plans for eating out sound wonderful!
I wish you safe travels, and time to relax.

Kate - I don't blame you for deciding to just relax once the dog was settled on you - I'm envious!
Are you able to get to the decluttering today?

I took the bus to the bank this morning, and there was a long line-up there. Then I had to wait almost an hour for the bus to come back for me. I took a book along so I could read while I waited. It was a pretty nice day, but still cold. By Saturday it's supposed to warm up to about 50, so I'm looking forward to that.
I hope you're both having good days.

Mema Ė glad the dinner worked out well and there were left overs for people to take home.

Sloppy Joe meat would freeze up nicely, but coleslaw doesnít really keep for a long time. Did you take some home for your DH to eat while you are away.

Have a lovely and relaxing visit w/ your aunt.

Leslie Ė glad you had so many people remembering your birthday.

I didnít even get started on my de-cluttering project so thatís on my list for today. I was planning on heading up right after I finished watching a TV show after lunch, but DSís youngest dog climbed up on me and fell asleep w/ her head on my shoulder. It was so comfy laying there w/ a doggie ďblanketĒ keeping me warm that I just settled in and stayed there.

WHEW!! What a day! Everything went very well - my only complaint would be we didn't have as many people in church as in the past weeks. But fortunately, I was able to give a lot of the leftovers away. Everyone commented on how good it all was - so I was very pleased.

I put all the food into Tupperware containers and boxed it all up and just put it in my trunk. Our church is only about 2-4 miles from our house. I got to church at 1:30 and just stayed right there. DH drove separately to church.

I'm ready for a break!! It will be nice to go to my aunt's house to visit. I think I'll see if she wants to go to S. Padre Island one day to shop. Haven't been there at all this year. We will go out to eat for dinner each night. Tomorrow I'm going to take her to Dirty Al's (for shrimp) and then on Friday night we've been invited out to Texas Roadhouse with some others from her park, so that will be fun.

Leslie -How wonderful to get so many birthday wishes!!
I'm glad you got to exercise this morning.
Hope you get caught up with all the things you want to do.

Kate - Did you have a good meeting?
How did you do on your dresser?
I was a bit tired when I got home this evening, but got a little "second wind" to get my things packed for my aunts, watch some TV and go to bed.

Have a great day!!

Apologies for not writing for a couple of days. I received what seemed like hundreds of messages for my birthday, so I was a little overwhelmed, but by yesterday I had opened and responded to most of them.
Thank you also to everyone here for the good wishes!

Mema - I just read what you wrote about fish tacos, and that made them actually sound pretty good. I'd be willing to try one.
You have done a LOT of work for the meal tonight! I hope it all goes well. It sounded as if you were very well organized about it all. I'm glad your DH was helping you too. I hope it won't be too hard getting it all to the church.
Glad you ordered a pizza too! I think it was about a year since I had done that, so it was a real treat. I just finished it on Monday.
Enjoy your visit with your aunt!

Kate - I did hear about that young boy who murdered his parents. That was horrible.
Good for you with the decluttering challenge. I'm not sure I would know where to start! I need to check out Marie Kondo on Netflix - maybe that would get me going.
I'm glad you got a long and deep sleep.
How was yoga yesterday?

I went to the exercise class this morning. Now I'm trying to catch up with the things I haven't been able to do for the last couple of days.

I hope you're having good days!

I have a meeting today and then I want to start clearing out a part of my dresser. I did most of it when I went through the Maire Kondo book, but one section still needs to be de-cluttered.

Mema Ė that does sound like a lot of work getting all that food prepped and/or cooked. Hope youíre not too exhausted today after that kitchen marathon.

I do love it when DH takes the initiative to plan something for dinner. Heís good about either taking me out to dinner or picking something up, but rarely makes the plans for it. It's a reflection of his lack of "pickiness" about eating. He doesn't much care what he eats but I do.

Have a lovely visit w/ your aunt. A good break after all your hard work on the supper.

Had Bible study this morning - our Deacon led the study since our minister was sick. I do have to say, the Deacon needs a little more practice in leading a Bible study. He tended to be all over the place, but that's ok. It was better than having to skip it. And it gives him practice.

Went to Walmart to pick up my fruit for my salad. Came home and started in cooking all my sloppy joe's. I made 5 batches of 3# each. Lot of work!! But I'm glad I did it today. Now DH is actually shredding my cabbage for me!! Tomorrow I'll cut up my fruit - I just have to slice the strawberries. The other fruit will be blueberries and pineapple. Then I'll have to bring the whole works over to church tomorrow.

I skipped my meeting today - it starts at 12:30 and that was right in the middle of all I had to do. I'm glad I did because I started cooking about 12:30 and didn't finish up until 5:30 with all the clean-up, too!

On Thursday, I'm driving down to Brownsville to stay with my aunt for a few days. I'll come back home on Saturday afternoon. Her DD and SIL left for MN on Monday, so she's by herself again. She did say she's getting more used to being by herself, but I know she'll be happy to have me there for those few days. She flies back to MN on the 18th. It will be a nice little break for me. I'll try and post those days, but their wi-fi is a bit iffy.

Kate - Yes, it is starting to feel like things are winding down. Over this month now, we'll see more and more people getting their RV's ready to head back North. About 1/3 leave and go North for the summer, 1/3 stay here year round and 1/3 have RV's and just travel for a few months in the summer (their permanent home is TX).
I slept pretty well last night myself so that was good for all the things I had to do today. Glad you did, too for your yoga class.

Leslie - We ordered a pizza for supper tonight and had it delivered!! I thought of you! I had suggested we just get Burger King after cooking all day and DH was the one who suggested the pizza. It was good!
Hope you are getting caught up on things.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

Mema Ė it must feel like things are winding down w/ the Bible study ending and the Zumba class teacher leaving.

Hope all goes really well w/ your cooking and w/ the supper.

Leslie - hope you had a lovely day. Did you finish off the pizza for your birthday dinner?

Had my last Bible study for this year here in our club. The church Bible study will continue. Although our Pastor and his wife just got back from a short vacation in PA and he's getting over pneumonia! What a bummer! So our newly appointed Deacon will lead Bible study tomorrow. Then I have my meeting.

I went to Walmart today to get some of the things I need for my Wednesday supper. I'll have to go again tomorrow to pick up the fruit and buns. So I didn't get up in the attic today and probably won't tomorrow either because I'm going to do some of the cooking tomorrow. Get all the hamburger cooked and make the coleslaw.

I wish I could have gone up in the attic because the rest of the week it's going to get warm again! And it's always twice as warm up there!

Kate - We had another chilly day with some misting in the morning. Each day this week it's getting better and better.
Good for you in "de-cluttering". It will be such a good feeling when you get those areas cleaned out!
I can see why it would be easier for you just to park at the airport. Makes sense!
How sad about that 11 year old - I just can't imagine!

Leslie -

Based on Kate's clip art, I'm guessing it was your b-day today!! Hope you had a wonderful day!

Have a terrific Tuesday!!

Mema Ė we had lovely weather for Sunday morning Ė in the low 60ís and sunny Ė but our afternoon was like yours Ė cold and wet.

I should do my oven, too.

Another group Iím part of is having a Ďdeclutteringí challenge during the month. Weíre to pick one area to work on each week. I already know two that Iíll be doing: the cabinet in the top part of my dresser and the book case in my bedroom.

Our airport cell phone lot is on the other side of the airport and is about a 5 minute drive on a very twisty route. Iíd rather just park since DHís company pays for the parking anyway.

Leslie Ė

Yikes! Snow! We have had snow as late as April but itís rare.

I know what you mean about fish tacos. I thought they sounded really strange but once I tried them, theyíre actually pretty good.

There is a family in NH just last month where the youngest son (11 yrs old) murdered his parents. The situation does have some similarities to the one in the book. The parents seem to have gone from a normal suburban family to pulling out of all that. They ended up taking their kids out of school and living on a farm w/ big signs warning off Ďgovernmentí intruders. Just a weird downward spiral over a number of years.

There is power in well-chosen words, and often there is equal power in silence. Learning when to talk and when to listen are among the most powerful skills you can develop.
