Oh, it was tough getting up for church today. I slept ok, but it was cold, windy and raining. It rained all day long today. I did get some cleaning done, but wasn't really in the mood. And after supper, I cleaned the oven (it's self-cleaning, so I just had to press some buttons! LOL) - not really a tough job there!

Tomorrow is Bible study - it's our last one of the season as the gal who is leading it has to go back early. Her BIL was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is not doing well. And I will try and get up in the attic sometime tomorrow, too. It's still going to be cool, but not so much rain.

Leslie - I'm with you, on the fish tacos. But I think they put a shredded cabbage mix on them and marinate the fish in oil, lime juice, cumin and other spices and then cook the fish. I would try them if someone had one, but not likely to make them myself.
Your pizza sounds delish! Haven't had delivered pizza in a long time.

Kate - Your day did get a bit out of whack, but seemed like things all came together in the end, like you said just not in the way you were expecting them.
And glad your DH was only waiting 5 minutes for you and so then you didn't have to park. When I fly up to MN, I have my son just pick me up right outside the terminal. If he would happen to be very early, the airport has a small parking lot right outside the terminal that people can park for free waiting for a phone call from the person they are picking up. It saves on parking and from just driving around in a circle.
Oh, and Unsurepat was right on the ball with getting the new thread for April started - it was up while I was posting this message.

Happy Monday!

Oh dear, it sounds as if all of us have had one bad night for sleeping this weekend! I did sleep well last night.

Mema - good for you for getting your laundry done! Sorry you'll need to clean today though.
Your weather has been odd. It is good to have a cool day while you're cleaning.
We got snow yesterday and overnight - enough that the guy with the plow was here this morning to clear our drive. It's staying below freezing today so it isn't melting yet either.
Good luck getting through your knick-knacks! That's another thing I should probably be doing too.
That fish dinner certainly sounded like a big meal!
The family in the book I was reading did have a lot of paranoia. They ran a junkyard, so there was lots of work for the kids, and the mother also made homeopathic remedies, so that was her business, and the girls helped with that too. She was also a midwife, for other families who wanted nothing to do with doctors.
It really was an amazing situation.

Kate - Good for you for getting all the laundry done after your DH got back.
I'm sure you did a great job homeschooling your kids. In the book I read, the kids were taught to read, and maybe some basic arithmetic, but that was about it. The Bible seemed to be about the only reading material. The girl who tells this story had never heard of the Holocaust until she started at university. They didn't learn basic hygiene, such as washing hands after using the toilet. It was really quite eye-popping!
I'm sorry your day didn't go quite as you had planned! Nice that your DH was actually early, and you didn't have to park at the airport.

Thanks to you both for telling me more about tilapia.
I've never had fish tacos. I love fish, and love beef tacos, but fish in a taco seems unappealing to me.
I have just had a piece of pizza for lunch. I'll have the last 2 pieces tomorrow.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – I was awake early yesterday morning, too. I woke up at 3:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep. I finally pulled out my tablet and read until it was time to get up.

I usually do laundry on Saturday morning. With DH coming home in the afternoon, I had everything sorted in baskets down the basement waiting for him to get home and add the stuff from his suitcase. We did get it all done, but the last load of clothes is still in the dryer waiting to get brought upstairs and folded.

Leslie – since I home schooled my kids, I sometimes heard some of the stories about people who were keeping their kids home out of a kind of paranoia rather than a desire to give them a really good education tailored to their needs.

Tilapia is a smallish, fairly flat fish, so you get it as whole fillets like sole not thick pieces like cod or haddock. It’s very common to have it down here as generic “white fish” like in fish tacos.

Love the idea of celebrating your divorce w/ pizza.

Yesterday was a totally different day than I expected. I had to run out early to pick up one thing at the grocery store. I thought that would be before my DS or DD arrived. When I got back, the dogs had been dropped off early.

But then DD never showed up w/ DGS. DGS finally called that they were on the way - 15 minutes before swim lessons. I told him to have his mom take him directly to the Y. I met them there w/ his swim suit and towel just in time for the lesson. I told her what time the lesson was over and suggested she come back to the Y to pick him up.

She was just a few minutes late, but by the time we said our good byes, it was about 5 min after 1. I just got into my car when DH called to say he had landed 15 min early. So – I headed straight down to the airport and picked him up at the curb. Nice not having to find a parking space at the airport. He said, by the time he got through customs, he only had to wait about 5 minutes for me.

For as tired as I was last night when I went to bed (11:30 pm) I woke up at 3:00 am, then again at 4:00 am. From 4-6:30 I was awake! I finally fell back to sleep. I got up about 10:30 - sheesh! I hope I don't have a night like that again. I had thought about staying up, but finally at 6:30 I was tired.

I did get my laundry done and I'll clean tomorrow. It's going to be cold, windy and rainy tomorrow! So it will be a good day to clean! It was in the upper 80's today. It has been a crazy winter down here. To get cool days like this now is very unusual.

When we get this next few days of cool/cold, I'm going to go back up in the attic and go thru more cases. I have a bunch of knick knacks in some cases of things that I don't think I really need to keep any longer. I found a carved wooden bench (small, like for on top of a dresser) that came from Honduras that my in-laws bought for me on one of their many trips. I don't think I need to keep that. It doesn't have sentimental value really, so I'll make a box for Goodwill. I know I also have a lot of keepsakes of my DS's in some of those cases so I'll have to see what to keep and maybe what to bring back North and give back to him. He can decide what he wants to do with that kind of stuff!

Leslie - We had corn and coleslaw with the fish and baskets of bread on all the tables. Tilapia, to me is a mild white fish - I suppose similar to cod but the fillets are larger and flatter.
The book you just finished does sound heartbreaking. I can't imagine why parents would want to do that to their children.
More snow for you! Ugh! I bet you are getting eager for spring!!

Kate - I think it would be better to fly home and have it 5 hours earlier than 5 hours later, but it's still an adjustment.
We cut our cakes in 15 pieces, and so with 17 cakes we had 255 pieces. We take a plate out to the guard house and give them about 7-8 pieces. Plus we had a few "oops" pieces - the piece fell off the plate. And we did have one cake - a carrot cake - that was not baked all the way thru! That's the first time that ever happened, so we could only use a few of the edge pieces on that one. And some of the men do take more than one piece, especially at the end when they can see that everyone has been served. We plate all the pieces of cake and set them on 2 long tables, so everyone can help themselves to which ever piece they want. So it usually works out pretty well.
I hope you didn't run into any bad traffic going to the airport.
Nice that your DGS will get to see the dogs.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Mema - the fish fry did sound like a big success. That was a lot of cake, and a lot of fish too I'm sure! Were there potatoes and coleslaw to go with the fish? I'm sure it was a lot of work!
Good for you for making progress with your pictures. That's something I need to get back to. I think I need to start taking an hour a day to work on those, or other projects that keep not getting done. There just don't seem to be enough hours in the day for me to do all the things I want to do online, and read, and various projects that I really want to be making progress with.
I'm glad that guy is going to buy the car! That will be one less thing to worry about.
I've heard a lot of people mention tilapia, but I don't think I've had it. The main fish around here are whitefish, salmon, and trout, but at the seafood restaurant they use either cod or haddock for the fried fish.
Thanks for the congrats on the divorce! I started all of this last June, so it's been a long haul. I'm just glad it's done. I called the guy who had been helping me to say thank you for all his help. I had to leave a message for him yesterday, but he'll get it Monday. I just want him to know I'm grateful.
I decided to celebrate a bit by ordering a pizza - I haven't done that for a very long time! That was a real treat, and I'll have more for tonight and Monday. Tomorrow I'll need to steam the asparagus I bought, so I'll have that with a hamburger patty, and maybe potatoes, or a baked yam - half of it anyway.

Kate - ah, I thought the Crown Victoria may have had a slightly different name in the US!
I'm sure it will be hard for a couple of days for your DH to adjust to the time change.
I didn't sleep well at all last night, about 4 hours total, but I don't feel sleepy now. I don't think I'd have the energy to do anything strenuous though.
I'm glad your DD will be able to take your DGS to the event this afternoon. I'm sure he'll be happy to spend the time with his mum.
It's great that your DGS will be able to see the dogs today.

I finished a heart-breaking, gut-wrenching, amazing memoir yesterday called Educated by Tara Westover. She is the youngest of 7 children who were raised by anti-government parents who didn't send the kids to school, nor had them see doctors, even for severe injuries. The story is almost unbelievable, especially when it all took place so recently - it seems to me it would have been more likely to have happened in the 1940s or '50s. She is only 32 now I think. Of the 7 children, 4 have essentially no education, and 3 ended up with doctorates. I felt as if I'd been punched in the solar plexus when I finished reading it. I have more books to read of course.
It has been snowing all morning and everything is covered in white again. It is supposed to be a little above freezing on Monday.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – yes, Crown Victoria. I think spell checker got me there.

DH will have jet lag. They are 5 hours later than us. It’s usually 6 hours but they don’t start Daylight Savings Time until tomorrow.

17 cakes for that many people sounds like a lot. If only 8 pieces were left, a lot of people must have had seconds.

Glad things worked out w/ the car sale.

Leslie – congrats on the finalization of your divorce. That’s been a long time in the works.

Sorry you’re feeling so drained and tired out. Hope you’re better today.

Today my DD will drop off DGS so she can go to the office and do paperwork. She has an event in the afternoon and she will take DGS with her. As soon as she picks him up, I’ll need to head to the airport to pick up DH. It will be nice to have him home.

DS asked me to watch the dogs again today. His GF is recovering from her hip surgery and staying w/ her parents. But they’re away for the weekend so he wants to be there to help her out. DGS will enjoy seeing the dogs. He usually misses them since he's here on weekends and they are here on week days.

Went thru some more pictures - it is fun to look back on so many memories. Most of the pictures are from 15-20 years ago (and some a lot older).

DH and I went up to the clubhouse about 3 pm today to help get everything set up for the fish fry. We had 17 cakes (9x13) and only had about 8 pieces left over, so that was really good! I did have 1 piece. One of the gals makes a pumpkin dump cake and it's so good. But that was all I had. Usually it's the wives of the members that bake the cakes. There are several women in the club and they have baked cakes as well. There are 27 members, so not everyone has to bake.

We got home about 7:30 and I was bushed! But DH wanted to take a golf cart ride and so we did have a nice ride. It was a nice evening. The fish fry was a huge success. Two of the women who are in the Investor's Club organized the whole thing. They had notes from previous years, but they took it on all themselves. That is a lot of work!

Tomorrow I should really clean my house, but I'll see how I feel - I'm really tired now.

Leslie - So, that guy who came over yesterday is going to buy the car. He'll work out all the details with DH! So that's a huge relief.
The WI fish fries are very good! We have gone to them up there. We serve tilapia ( it's a white fish) down here. They lightly bread the pieces and then pan fry every one! I don't know how many fillets they fry, but we serve about 230 people - so that's a lot of fish!! They usually have about 3-4 people frying fish. They get a good head start and we have a large warmer that they can keep trays of fish on. We serve from 4:30-7:00, but most everyone shows up about 5:30.
I'm not sure, but it sounds like it's OK to say Congratulations on your divorce. I know you wanted to make sure your ex didn't get stuck with any of your debt, so I'm glad that's taken care of now.

Kate - I'm wondering if you meant Crown Victoria - I've never heard of a Crown Victory. I don't mind driving a bigger car. Although up North, I drive a small Saturn and I like that, too. Down here the drivers seem much more aggressive than up North, so I like that I'm in a larger car.
Wow - $16 for 2 people for lunch does sound like a good deal! And I think your cost of living is higher than ours in WI, and for sure higher than in TX.
Will your DH have jet lag when he gets home? What is the time difference?
Have fun with your DGS!

Happy Saturday!

Mema - How great that you were able to sing to Dakota before school on her birthday! I know you're eager to see the kids.
I hope your DH does have a buyer for that car. I would not want to drive such a big car. In about 1980 we had a huge Dodge, Polara I think. I much prefer small cars myself.
The Fish Fry sounds good. What kind of fish do they use? Who bakes the cakes? I loved the fish fries in WI, where they were a big deal every Friday.
Oh, it's good Ft. Snelling is where you can get to it quite easily.
I'm glad you've figured out how to do the cooking for that large group - it sounds as if it's all very well planned!
I'm glad you liked your chicken stir fry. I finally finished last night the one I made on Sunday. Now I have to think of something else for tonight.
I didn't get a call back from the hospital yesterday so I called back today but had to leave a message. Since it's Friday, she may be out for the weekend now.
Donna and I were going to shop, but I was going to offer to take her to lunch to thank her for the ride.

Kate - That Thai restaurant really sounds wonderful. I love a Greek restaurant here which is also very inexpensive. I took myself there for souvlaki on my birthday a couple of years ago, and last summer my friend Diane and I picked up food from there. It's very good.
I see that the big car you drove was a Crown Victory - here they're called Crown Victoria!
I didn't have a nap yesterday. The fatigue I was feeling didn't seem like a nap would have helped. I wasn't at all sleepy, just feeling totally worn out, and I don't know why. I woke up too early this morning, and had a nap a little later, and continued to feel drained all morning, but I'm feeling better now.
Nice that your DH will be home tomorrow. Will you pick him up at the airport? Oh, I see that you will!
I'm sorry you weren't able to get to the spin session today, but I know it will be a relief to have the new water heater.
I'm sure you'll enjoy your DGS tomorrow.

It's a beautiful sunny day, but a little cooler today, just above the freezing point I think.
I seem to be late with everything today, but it's almost time to go and read.
Oh, my divorce is final today!

I hope you're both enjoying your days.

Mema – nice that you could sing Happy Birthday to your DGD.

When my kids were little we were hosting women in crisis pregnancies and needed a car that could comfortably hold a pregnant woman and 2 car seats in back. It’s only the really big cars that had enough width so I drove a Crown Victory for those years. I wouldn’t dive a big car like that anymore, but it was comfortable to have all the room inside and out.

Have fun at the fish fry. Are you going to avoid eating cake as you serve it?

Leslie – did you take a nap when you begged off going w/ your friend? Or just take a rest.

Nice to get some groceries in the house. I will try to do that this afternoon so there will be things for my DH when he comes home tomorrow.

The Thai place is wonderful – close to home, inexpensive, and very good food. My friend opted to pick up the bill and she did a double take at the amount. It was just over $16 for lunch for two people.

I decided to take yesterday off from the gym and go to spin today. But yesterday afternoon, the heating company called and said they had a cancelation and could come and install our new water heater this morning so – no gym today either.

Our hot water has been murky looking for a few weeks so it will be good to get that fixed before the tank fails entirely. We’re switching to a “tankless” system which should last longer. The oil fired hot water heaters have a short life span – about 8 years – although we’ve been lucky and ours have lasted over 10 yrs each. It will be nice to get rid of that recurring expense.

One more quiet day at home w/ the dogs. Tomorrow DGS will be here from early morning until DD picks him up around 1 and then I’ll be headed to the airport to pick up DH.

I called Dakota this morning before she left school and sang her "Happy Birthday" over the phone! I asked her if she felt like a 7 year old today and she said, Yes!
That was too cute! They were going out for pizza tonight. I can't wait to get home to those two little munchkins!

I went into the attic and got down some more pictures to go thru today. I still have a LOT yet to get to. But I will do what I can.

I think DH has his 1995 Lincoln Town Car sold to a guy who lives here in our club. He took it for a test drive, took it over to the mechanic and said he would buy it. His wife wasn't too keen on the idea - she wanted to buy a Mini Cooper their neighbor had for sale, but her husband said that vehicle is a death trap! They have a Honda SUV down here that his wife can drive so he will probably end up driving the Lincoln, but it is a big car. It's the old style that is long!

Tomorrow I will be helping at our Fish Fry that the club my DH belongs to - Investor's Club. They host an annual fish fry every year. I cut and serve cakes with some of the other women. It will be a fun time. And the fish is delicious!

Leslie - Ft. Snelling is in Minneapolis - it's one of the National Cemetery's in the country so it will be there forever. It's similar to Arlington, but probably not quite as big, but it has the white marble headstones for the Veterans.
I'm going to make the sloppy joes in batches of 3 - and I'll make 5 batches total. Then I looked online as far as how much fruit to purchase and I got 3 medium heads of cabbage that was left over from the gals who are getting all the food together for the fish fry so I'm sure that will be plenty.
I hope you hear back from the hospital tomorrow so you can schedule your mammo.
Maybe you can go out with your friend, Donna another time. Were you going to go out to eat or shop?

Kate - I made a chicken stir-fry for supper tonight. It was good!
That would have been nice to have your vacation at the end of your retreat. I hope you'll be able to figure out something else.
My DH's friend, Danny did have other health issues - he had high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. When he was born, his feet were deformed - turned inward, but with surgery, they were able to correct that quite a bit. It was amazing, though the things he could remember. He was good with numbers and dates - as far as remembering my birthday and DH's birthday and phone numbers. God gives us all gifts and burdens.
I've got 15# of hamburger and as I was saying above, I'll cook it in 3# batches. We have a large roasting pan that I can put it all into when it's done to keep it warm and if the church doesn't have a large frying pan, I've got one at home I can bring, but our kitchen is pretty well stocked. I'll check that on Sunday after church.
What did you decide to do - yoga or wt. lifting?

Have a great day!

Mema - I'm so sorry about the loss of your DH's friend. I'm sure you'll both miss him. It's good that he was able to have Last Rites. You have been having a lot of losses. I hope that will be the last one.
Where is Ft. Snelling? I hope the pastor will get back to you soon so you can make the arrangements for your parents.
It's good that the cabinet maker has agreed to make the cross for your altar and the Easter service.
I can picture the huge potatoes! I got an enormous one one time when I ordered a baked potato with a steak. I don't know if I was able to eat 1/4 of it!
I have never cooked for 50 people before either! I wonder if it would be helpful to get some tips from the cook at a facility such as the one your mom was in. There might be some helpful tricks for such large batch cooking. The things you are planning as side dishes sound wonderful. I love sloppy joes but don't think I've made them since my kids were young.
The hospital had not yet received the referral from my doctor for the mammogram. The woman I spoke to said she'd watch for it and call me back. If I don't hear from her today, I'll call again tomorrow...

Kate - That Thai restaurant sounds heavenly! I love curry and stir fries.
Ear plugs would have been nice for when the fire alarms were all blasting away. The only time I've used ear plugs was when I worked at a Del Monte green bean canning plant, in Plover, WI. There was a lot of loud machinery.
The fire alarms were very shrill, and you're right - almost painful.
I thought you both were talking about just shutting down an individual meeting for one particular day. Of course if there are consistently too few people, it would be impossible to pay the rent, so I would understand closing that group.
What did you decide on, the yoga or the weight lifting?

I was going to go out with my friend Donna from our exercise class, but this has seemed like a long week and I'm feeling very tired, so I begged off. I will need to take the bus to the bank at least, one day next week.
I've ordered groceries today so they'll be coming this afternoon. In the meantime I'll be reading.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie – for my ‘every-other’ Tuesday lunch and Bible Study, we walk over to the local Thai restaurant. The lunch menu is limited to five or six flavors of curry and about eight or ten different stir fries. But you get to chose your protein, too, so it multiplies choices. Earlier in the winter, I had taken my other friend there and she loved it. So I ended up there twice - having one of the curries on Tuesday and a stir fry on Wednesday.

Sorry about the fire alarms. They really are obnoxiously loud – on purpose. I have ear plugs that I wear when I do spin class b/c the music is too loud for me. I find that kind of volume almost painful.

Glad that it was a nice warmer day when you needed to get out to your doctor’s appointment. We’re going to have some really nice warm weather for a few days here.

I have a women’s retreat in San Diego the end of April. I was trying to add on a vacation at the end w/ my DH flying out the day after the retreat ended. So the problem is that I have a very specific date and place. I can usually find a good trade when I’m open about either the exact place or the dates.

My Monday morning meeting of OA is quite small. The church gave us a special rate on the rent but even so it’s hard to make ends meet in the winter. If a meeting can’t get enough contributions to pay the rent, then it has to close up.

Mema – so sorry about your DH’s friend. It has been a season of loss for you two.

We have some “challenged” people in our church and they are so nice. There is a special Sunday School class for them. It seems that many people in that category have other physical problems that tend to limit their life span.

Sloppy joes sounds like a good choice. Do you have some big pots for cooking that much food? seems like you’d need around 12 pounds of meat plus all the veggies for the sauce.

I had a nice lunch w/ my friend yesterday. And then another quiet afternoon.

Today the cleaning people will be here so I need to do a little bit of tidying. Mostly just making sure a few things I left out on the kitchen counter are put away.

I’m trying to decide if I should go to yoga class again today or do my heavy weight lifting. The yoga class on Tuesday did a lot of planks and dolphins and I’m still feeling it in my shoulders.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

We got a call this morning that a friend of my DH's passed away. He was a "kid" - 58 yrs. old, but he was mentally handicapped and my DH knew him since he was a child. He and his family lived on the same lake that we go to now and he would come down to see my DH often when DH was up at the cabin. My DH helped him a lot with his speech, taught him to use a phone and would bring him down to the local bar once in awhile for a beer. Danny moved to a close town up by us and got his own apartment years later and even worked in a factory. There was a factory in that town that hired specifically challenged people. We had Danny down here in TX twice after we built our home here. He would fly down like an "accompanied minor". His brother would sign him off to the flight attendant in Minneapolis and then my DH would be at the gate of the plane here in TX to pick him up. He was a special friend. He called my DH on the phone every week! He had a massive heart attack right before going into Mass last Saturday at church. The Priest gave him Last Rites and they rushed him to the hospital. They kept him on life support for the last few days, but realized he would not wake up. He had stopped breathing for about 6-7 minutes after his heart attack and the doctor said even if he would wake up, his brain would be much more severely compromised. So, they stopped all the machines and let him go. More sad news for us. This has been just a sad winter for us.

I had some phone calls to make today - confirmed everything for my mom and dad's burial at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in June. I called the Pastor who did the Memorial Service for my mom, but didn't get a hold of him. Left a message and am waiting on a return call. I would like him to go out there for the committal service.

I also called a man who lives here in our club about making a small wooden cross (about 2 ft. high) for our church alter. Yesterday in Bible study at church, our Pastor has been looking for one and hasn't had any success. He wants it for our Easter Sunrise service. We are going to start out in the parking lot and proceed into the church carrying that cross. This man that I talked to is a professional cabinet maker so he said he would do it for us.

Our baked potato supper was delicious! The potatoes were HUGE! A lot of people split their potato with their spouse. Next week is my turn - I'm going to do sloppy joes instead of my hamburger soup. I have never cooked for 50 people before and it will be much easier to make the sloppy joes vs. the soup. I'll have cole slaw and fruit salad and chips with it.

Leslie - that must have been awful listening to the fire alarms going off like that for so long!
I'm glad you had a nice visit with your housekeeper and I'm sure the quiet was nice afterwards.
I'm glad you had such a nice day when you had to be outside! Having the sun out on those crisp days really helps. I remember those days. The sun always felt so good!
I hope you get your mammogram appointment made.

Kate - That is nice that your DS can get his GF to the hospital and back to her parents house. My feeling is the same as yours and Leslie's about safety with 3 dogs!! That could be scary.
I understand people not liking the snow and cold, but I'm not sure how people manage the heat down here or in FL during the summer! It's oppressive sometimes and it's not like it only lasts a week or two or even 3 weeks at the most - often the very cold weather up North lasts about that long. Down here it's a solid 5 months at least of mid to upper 90's or low 100's! I'm blessed that I have the best of both worlds.
How frustrating about your vacation plans! I hope if you make your call, you can find something that will work for you. I'm curious - where was it you wanted to go? And are there usually a lot of options available?

I hope you have a good day!

My head feels like it's vibrating. They were testing our fire alarms, and it was ringing for a minute or two, then off for about 30 seconds, then ringing again, etc. for about half an hour. I felt as if it were destroying my hearing. There are 2 buttons that are supposed to dull the sound when pressed, but I can never get them to work, so I got the full force of the sound each time. If I still had my car, I would have gone out to sit in it with my book. I could have gone out anyway, but wasn't sure there'd be a place to sit. It would have been hard for me to stand that long, and I can only walk very short distances. Anyway, it seems to be done now, so I'm grateful for that.
I did have a great time with my housekeeper yesterday. I always used to need a nap after she left; now I just sit on my couch with a book, and appreciate silence. Haha. I really do enjoy her company, and our conversations, but it's also good to be alone again!
It is a really glorious day, with sun, and it felt warmer than low 40s when I was out. I just had a routine visit with my doctor that went well. She sent a referral for my mammogram, and I need to call tomorrow for the appointment.

Mema - I'm glad the Zumba went well, but sorry there was a bit of an issue with the music. I am not at all tech savvy; I've heard of MP3 players, but don't know how they work. Good luck getting it sorted out for next time you need it.
How exciting that Dakota will be 7 tomorrow! It's great that you'll be able to call her before school.
I wonder too about the message your pastor has written especially for you! That will be fun to read on Sunday.
The baked potato dinner sounds good! I would love either brisket or pulled pork with it.
When I was going to AA, we never closed a meeting. Even if I was the only one who showed up, I'd stay for the hour in case a newcomer might wander in. There actually aren't a lot of meetings here, so if one shuts down, it doesn't leave much of an alternative. When I lived in Toronto, there were plenty of meetings, at all times, and all over the city.

Kate - I'm really sorry it didn't work out for you to have gone on the vacation you wanted - how disappointing! I hope you'll find something else. What area do you like to go to for your vacation? When will you be going?
I'm glad your DS got the message about the dogs, and you were able to complete the errands you wanted to do.
It's great that you remembered your sister's birthday, and sent her flowers. And how wonderful that they got there so quickly! I'm sure she appreciated those.
I'm glad you are having lunches with friends. That should keep you from feeling too lonely while your DH is away. What did you have to eat at your lunches? I always love to hear about others' meals!
I hope the surgery goes well for your DS' GF. You're so right - it would be very risky to be on crutches around such active dogs!
I love heat like your sister, but couldn't stand the humidity in FL. I used to like all 4 seasons, but the older I get, the less I like winter.

I hope you're both having good days, now!

Mema – how interesting to think that something in the bulletin is especially for you. Wonder what it is.

I think pulled pork on a baked potato sounds yummy.

I had the dogs here yesterday and they will be here again Thursday and perhaps Friday.

Today DS will be home off and on during the day so he’s leaving them home. His GF has to go in for some surgery on her hip this afternoon so he’ll be coming home to pick her up and take her in and then drive her to her parents house afterwards. They figured being home w/ her mom to care for her would be better than being at DS’s house w/ 3 big dogs . And safer, too. I wouldn’t want to be dealing w/ crutches w/ those 3 crazy dogs running around.

My sister lives in Orlando. She’s been down in FL for over 30 years. Different places around the state. She hates the cold and loves the heat. One of the many ways we are different. I usually send her a check to buy herself a nice dinner somewhere.

Leslie – hope you had a nice day w/ your housekeeper there. Did you take a nap after she left?

I'm feeling very frustrated this morning. I planned a vacation using our time share trade and found one just right. I put it on a 24 hour hold while I checked it out w/ DH. After we had emailed back and forth a few times, we decided to go ahead and book it. When I got back to it, I got a message that the resort had "pulled" all their openings and were not available. Humph! And, even though I had chosen this resort out of several listed, when I went back to my search there were no other listings. Sigh! I might need to actually call someone to make a new reservation.

Bible study was pretty good today. On the back of our Sunday bulletins, the pastor will put a short "blurb" called "1 Minute Seminary" and it's on a variety of subjects - Deacons, Lent, the colors on the alter, things like that. Well, today, he told me that this Sunday's blurb was meant especially for me! So, I'll have to see what it is. He didn't give me any clue on what it is.

Then I ran to Walmart for a couple of things, came home and went to my meeting. There were about 15 of us and one of the men got his 1 year coin! The last Tuesday of every month we celebrate sobriety b-days and have cake.

It started raining during the meeting and kept on all the rest of the day. Just a very light rain, but enough to make it kind of miserable to be out. But tomorrow will be nice again. It was warm today.

I don't have anything in particular for tomorrow other than church and supper afterwards. The gal making the supper tomorrow is serving Build Your Own Baked Potato. That should be good. There was some leftover brisket and pulled pork from Sunday's pot luck so she's going to include those items.

Kate - I'm glad you had a larger group to your meeting on Monday. I know in AA if our meetings tend to be small, sometimes they end up closing those. I hate to see that, but with AA, there's ALWAYS a meeting somewhere!
I don't know of anyplace up by us that would have camps like you talk about. But it's not something I really looked into, so I might check into that once we get back up there. But any place that would have something, it would be at least 25-30 miles away from us (one way), so that's kind of a lot of driving every day.
I'm glad your DS got your message about not being home. Will you have the dogs any other day this week? Sounds like you have some nice things planned for yourself while your DH is away.
Wow - that was a pretty quick delivery on flowers! And quick thinking on your part! My sister and I exchange b-day presents, but that's about all. I'm usually on the look-out through out the year for something she would like or something a bit unusual. Does your sister live far away from you?

Leslie - I hope you had a nice day with your housekeeper at your apartment. And I hope you weren't too terribly tired out after she left! LOL

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Leslie – it’s good that the weather will be a bit warmer tomorrow when you have to be out.

Enjoy your time w/ your housekeeper. I know she’s a good friend.

I’m glad you were able to have a nice long conversation w/ your DS. That must have been a comfort to you both.

Mema – nice that the small study worked out well for all of you. I’ve noticed that when I have a really small OA group, we sometimes get to discuss things that wouldn’t be appropriate in a larger group.

My OA group on Monday is usually small – 3-5 people – but we had 8 yesterday which was really nice.

I’m glad someone was able to get the songs up and running for your Zumba class.

Perhaps you can do something like I do w/ my DGS. He comes here all summer but he’s in camp here, too. We have him for an hour or so in the morning and a couple hours in the afternoon but not all day long. Is there any kind of summer activity near you that they could participate in? or are you too far away from things like that?

My DS did get the message and so I didn’t need to worry about the dogs being left alone all afternoon. I got all my stuff done yesterday and feel very accomplished.

I remembered yesterday morning that it was my sister's 65th birthday. I had been thinking about it last week and planned to get her something special but then forgot entirely until I saw the date. I quickly went on line around 7AM and ordered her a bouquet w/ a birthday balloon. When I chatted w/ her yesterday around dinner time, she said it had arrived in the morning before she was awake. She is a night owl and usually gets up around 10 or 11. I'm impressed at how quickly they managed the delivery.

I'm having lunch w/ different friends today and tomorrow and then a phone call w/ another at lunch on Thursday. Nice to have something to look forward to each day when DH is away.

There was only 3 of us at Bible study this morning, but it actually worked out well. The 3 of us all go to the same church and there was an issue that the one gal wanted to talk about, so it was good it was just us.

I went up for Zumba in the afternoon and at first I was able to play the songs on my phone, but I use the clubhouse's wi-fi and it was really slow so I couldn't pull up the songs. Luckily, one of the other gals who was there let me borrow her phone to play the songs thru. So, since I rely on wi-fi, I think I'll have to come up with a different system. DH said I should use an MP3 or MP4 player. He'll just have to show me how to download songs onto it. Other than that, it did go fine. I was glad about that.

Tomorrow I have Bible study at church and my meeting.

Leslie - I'm glad you had such a nice long "uninterrupted" conversation with your DS. My DS called me tonight. We had a nice chat, too. I'll be calling him early on Thursday morning (7 am) as it is Dakota's 7th b-day and she'll be heading off to the school bus about 7:15. I can't believe she's going to be 7!!
We had a warm day here today - mid 80's and a little humid. I'm glad you will have a nice day when you have to be out and about on Wednesday.
Glad you made it to exercise.
Enjoy your time with your housekeeper. I think you said at one time, she loves to talk with you while she's working, so I can see how that can tire a person out.

Kate - Did you DS end up getting your message about not bringing the dogs over? I hope so. Did you get your errands finished for your DD? Nice that you can do that for her. When I was talking with my DS tonight, we were talking about how the kids will go to day care in the summer and he kiddingly said, "Unless you want to watch them all summer"! I said that certainly would be nice if I could! And maybe I will be able to take them more often once Ryan is 6 and then Dakota would be 8.

Have a good day!

Thank you both for mentioning my daughter. She was older than my son, but only by 15 months and 4 days, so they were very close.
He did call me yesterday and we had a wonderful long conversation. My DIL is still away in Greece, and both boys were busy with events, so there were no interruptions for a change.

Mema - Good for you for getting your floor steamed!
I know you'll do just fine with the Zumba today. The other class members are fortunate that you can lead the class when needed.
I'm not really surprised that you've been tired - you keep yourself very busy!
My stir fry was very good. It made a large amount, so I have enough for 3 more meals! I'll be eating it all week.

Kate - Your DD really has a lot of responsibilities!
I hope your DS got the message that you wouldn't be home a lot today to be with the dogs.

We are having a sunny day, but it's still cold. By Wednesday, it's supposed to go up to the low 40s. I'll be out that day, so I'm looking forward to it.
I went to the exercise class this morning, and that was good.
I may not post tomorrow. My housekeeper will be here, and I really can't write much while she's here, and then I'm tired by the time she leaves.

I hope you both have good days, today and tomorrow.

Mema – have fun doing the Zumba class! I think the ladies will be glad to have the class even if a few of the routines are a bit so-so. I’m sure you’ll do great.

Leslie – Yesterday must have been a really hard day remembering your daughter and missing all the things she never got to do. Hope your son got a chance to call you.

How was the chicken stir fry? I do like stir fry w/ either chicken or beef.

DD is the team leader at her branch of the agency so she runs all the family events. We almost always watch DGS on those Saturdays but once in a while there is one that she can take him with her.

Quiet day around here w/ DH gone. I promised to do some errands for DD today that she can't find time to do. I sent DS a message yesterday morning that it would be better if he put the dogs in day care today since there won't be anyone home most of the day. Not sure if he got it or not. I guess I'll find out when/if he shows up w/ the dogs.

The pot luck at church went well. Plenty of food. I came home, though and took a short nap. Not sure why I am feeling tired the last couple of days. The nap did help.

I did get my floor steamed today, too!

This afternoon I got an email from the regular Zumba instructor, she can't make it at all tomorrow and asked if I would take the class. I said I knew I could do 3 routines confidently and the other 2 so-so. She told me just to do the best I could, so I'm going to give it a go! So I did practice a bit today.

Tomorrow is Bible study and then the Zumba in the afternoon.

Leslie - I ate some of my cabbage salad for dinner tonight. I didn't eat much of it at the pot luck, so I had that for supper. DH had some chicken soup.
How was your stir-fry?
Did you hear from your DS today? I am so sorry for you loss. That must be such a heartache. I can't imagine. How many years difference would there be between your son and daughter? So thoughtful that he calls you on her birthday.

Kate - That is very nice that your DD's agency does that for the adoptive parents and children. What a challenge for your DD with 8 teenage boys!! That is a handful!
Glad you didn't run into a lot of traffic when you brought your DH to the airport. Did he have a long layover in Amsterdam?
So, do you have any particular plans for the week with your DH being gone?

Happy Monday!

Mema - I admire all the ironing you do. I actually do enjoy ironing once I'm doing it, but it's one of those things that gets put off.
I hope you have good leftovers for your dinner today. I'll be making the chicken stir fry tonight - I'm looking forward to that! That will be enough for at least 2 meals for me.

Kate - We are having pretty good weather today. It's in the low 30s, so still very cool, but at least there's no precipitation.
The family events hosted by your DD's agency sound like a great idea, but I imagine teenagers would think they had better things to be doing with their time! Does your DD participate every month, or does the staff rotate those responsibilities? I'm sure it's wonderful for the adoptive parents to be able to get together with others in the same situation.
I'm glad you heard from your DH when he was in Amsterdam. It's great that the traffic wasn't bad taking your DH to the airport. I flew into Logan once, to meet my son who was a student at Harvard at the time. We rented a car and drove to an inn in CT near the cemetery where my mother's ashes were being buried next to her parents. I was working in OK at that time and had to fly from Tulsa and change planes at O'Hare. Memories...

Speaking of memories, today is my daughter's birthday. She would be 51 today if she hadn't died at 14. March 24th was on a Sunday in 1968 too, so this whole weekend I've been thinking of that weekend, of long labour and the delivery. I was never so happy! My DS usually calls me on her birthday. I haven't heard from him yet. I called there about an hour ago and left a message, so I'm sure he will call before the end of the day.

I hope you're both having good days!

Mema – I’m w/ Leslie. I iron a few of my summer clothes but that’s about it. I used to do ironing when I was growing up. My mom would set the ironing board up in front of the TV and do hers sitting down and watching TV. I had to do the pillow cases, handkerchiefs, etc. at first but worked up to shirts and things like that.

Today it’s supposed to be a lovely spring day here – sunny and highs near 60. The rest of the week will be mid 40’s and lows around freezing.

Prague weather is actually not much different from Boston weather. A few degrees warmer but similar.

Leslie – DD’s agency hosts family events once a month. The purpose is always so families w/ adopted children can get together w/ others. Just b/c they have that in common. Sometimes it’s families together and sometimes the split up kids and adults. We used to do them when our kids were little. It was nice to have the opportunity to talk w/ other parents about the unique issues an adopted family can face. Yesterday was a “split up” event. The kids were doing arts and crafts. DD was “wrangling” 8 teenage boys. LOL.

Just got a call from my DH. He’s on a layover in Amsterdam waiting for his flight to Prague.

DD came and picked up DGS late in the afternoon and we had just time for a quick dinner and then I drove him to the airport. The traffic wasn’t too bad going into town at 6 PM on a Saturday.

I’ll pick him up next Saturday in the early afternoon when I drop of DGS after his swim lessons. DD lives less than 2 miles from the airport.

I did get my ironing done and my salad made for tomorrow. But I skipped the floor. I just didn't feel like doing it today.

Tomorrow, we have our pot luck after Bible study. I'll stay and help clean up afterwards as well. Then it will be whatever left overs are in the frig for supper. I won't have to make a big dinner.

Leslie - My mom always ironed her clothes and I just started getting into the habit of doing it, so I iron pretty much everything! T-shirts, jeans, blouses and pants. Since I do laundry every week, it's not too bad ironing. And if I don't go a lot of places, the t-shirts I wear just around the house I don't iron, it's only the things I wear when leaving the house.
I had heard the movie - Crazy Rich Asians was pretty good and funny. I'm sorry the book wasn't like that. I'm glad you are enjoying your new book that you're reading.

Kate - So glad to hear your DD passed her test!! I bet she is relieved.
What kind of weather is Prague having now? I suppose I could just look online! emoticon I hope your DH had a good flight.
Is tomorrow when your church is serving breakfast? Hope you enjoy it!

I hope you both enjoy your Sunday!

Mema - Good luck with getting to steaming your floor, and doing the ironing. You always seem so much more ambitious than I am! I usually only iron about 3 times/year because I do have some summer clothes that need to be ironed. I haven't done any yet this year.
I did finish the book, Crazy Rich Asians, which was a rather horrifying expose of how extremely rich some people are. I know that as a movie it was a comedy, and I can picture that although I have no intention of seeing it. Now I have started Educated, which is really drawing me in. I'm looking forward to reading more later this afternoon.
Our postal workers are also federal employees. If I have another problem, I will not only complain to Canada Post, but will also call my Member of Parliament and get his office involved. Of course the postal workers are unionized, so who knows what will come of it.

Kate - it's wonderful that your DD did pass the test - congrats to her!
What is the purpose of the family event she is hosting today? I hope everyone, including her, enjoys it.
Will your DGS still be with you when your DH leaves this evening? Is there a direct flight to Prague? Your DH and my DS and DIL all seem to do a lot of travelling! Do you ever go too? Would you like to?
Nice that you don't have all the laundry to do today!
We didn't get the snow yesterday after all, but we still have lots of snow to melt. Today it's sunny but still cold. It finally got up to the freezing point.

I debated what to take out of the freezer for this weekend. I finally decided on a chicken breast, and hope to make the stir fry this time. I will probably have that tomorrow; tonight will be either a bacon and tomato sandwich or a frozen Indian dinner.

I hope you're both having good days!

DD did pass her test!! Whew!

She's hosting an agency family event today so she's dropping off DGS around 8 this morning for the day. We also have to get DH packed up for a flight to Prague this evening. I did all the wash earlier so DH could have choice of his whole wardrobe for packing. So that means I don't have laundry to do today.

Leslie – sorry you’ve been so tired out. Hope you got a good nap.

We’ve got snow piles in all the shady places but the areas where the sun shines – like my gardens - are clear.

I don’t think DH has ever been to Madrid, but he was a several conferences in Portugal.

That’s terrible about not even attempting to deliver packages. Just lazy and dishonest. Glad the guy was good about your package yesterday.

Mema – we’re getting a lot of wind today and yesterday was rainy. We got a few snow showers overnight. Less than an inch. Fortunately the wind should be dying down by the time DH has to fly. I hate flying when it’s windy.

I did get my laundry done and I went to Walmart to pick up my items for the pot luck on Sunday. But I didn't steam my floor or get my ironing done. I may do that tomorrow. It was sunny again today, but pretty windy.

Leslie - sorry you have been so tired this week.
Were you able to finish the book you wanted to?
I hope you like your new book, too.
That's too bad about tracking packages. Here in the US, it might take a day or two once I get an email that my item(s) have shipped, but after that day or two, I do find the tracking. But if you can't really leave a note for the carrier, I guess it doesn't matter. I think that is awful, too about the carriers filling out notices before they even attempt delivery. Our postal workers are employees of the Federal government and any tampering with someone's mail is a Federal Offense. I would think that type of behavior would be along those same lines. But you're in Canada, so.....

Kate - I love my floor steamer! It does do a great job.
Lifted your DD up in prayer today! I hope she passed. If not, maybe God has other plans for her!
Did you have some nasty weather today? It looked like you may get a rain/snow mix? And a lot of wind?

Hope you have a great Saturday!

Sorry for missing another day. I have been very tired this week; I went to bed at a little after 7 last night and was up shortly after 3 this morning, but I needed a nap a little later.
I have been trying to read, but with the fatigue, it's been hard to concentrate. I really want to finish one book today because I have a new one I really want to get to. It's called Educated by Tara Westover, and everyone I know who's read it has raved about how good it is. I hope I'll like it too.

Mema - That church supper sounded good. I think the meal you are planning sounds good too.
Sometimes it seems hard to track packages coming to Canada from elsewhere; often when I have tried, it just says 'no information'. I do know about how long it takes for orders from Amazon, and for another company in the US. There really isn't a way to leave a note for the postal carrier. They're supposed to call us from the lobby, unless someone lets them in, in which case they just come to the door. I did get another package today, and the guy was very pleasant.
A friend of mine used to work in the post office in Victoria, BC, and said she used to see guys filling out the 'attempted delivery' cards before they even left the postal station, so they weren't going to be making any effort at all! I think that's really awful.
I hope you can find the fragrance-free U-Lactin!
How nice that your DH made the crockpot meal. It sounds good. I have some pork chops I want to have soon with carrots and potatoes, and applesauce.
I'm glad you got your hair cut too. I know how happy I was to get mine done.

Kate - How great that your DH will be in Prague. My son had all good things to say about that city after he was there.
My son will be going to Madrid in June and Israel in July. My DIL is now in Greece and has posted great photos.
I am certainly praying for your DD to pass that exam! Could she just move to a less stressful position at her agency? I'm sorry she's seemed to be in over her head.
We are supposed to be getting blowing snow today. I haven't seen any yet, but there is a cold north wind. I had to close my bedroom window almost all the way. We still have quite a bit of snow on the ground.
I'm glad you were able to do some outside work.
It's a good thing you came along with the key when the speaker was already there!

I hope you're both having good days!

Please send up prayers for my DD. She has a re-certification exam that she has to take every year. The past two years she passed it on the first try. This time she's failed twice. She's taking it again today and if she fails a third time, they can fire her. She’s never been good at test taking but she’s really overwhelmed w/ all her responsibilities right now. I’m wondering if it’s just stress related, or if she has a subconscious wish to get out of this high level job she took on last fall. She’s felt out of her depth since she got it.

Mema – my Wednesday morning meeting is a speaker meeting. The ones I go to on Monday and Saturday are not. I like the variety.

I remember when my sister first got a tile steamer for her house in FL. She was so impressed w/ the good job it did.

When we moved out of the city to the suburbs, that was one of the things on my “must have” list – being able to walk to places including public transit. (in this case the commuter train)

Leslie - how are you? Is the snow all gone yet?

I did clean my house, but didn't get the tile steamed. I may do that tomorrow. I will probably also do laundry.

DH made dinner tonight - just a crock pot meal - pork, potatoes and carrots, but it was good. I'll have to go to Walmart tomorrow. We've got a pot luck at church on Sunday and I think I will make my Oriental Cole Slaw, that seems to go over well. We're having the past President of our Synod in as a guest pastor and he will also lead Bible study after service.

And I got my hair cut!! It feels so much better!! The sun was out today and it was lovely!! Only got to 79, so it was pretty much a perfect day.

Kate - I think because most of our church members are "Mid-westerners", we don't have many that are vegetarian. At least I've not heard of anyone speak about it. But that is a good idea about putting the yogurt on the side.
That is nice that you are close enough to be able to walk to a lot of places. Even down here, we're smack dab in the middle of our small "city", but it is still too far to try and walk to anyplace. Up North, when I drive into Spooner on my way to a meeting or the larger town Rice Lake, that is a perfect example of a town that you could walk to all sorts of places for errands. It's your typical small town w/main street. And we do shop there often.
Good thing you did get to your meeting early. Do you have a speaker often?

Leslie - I hope you had a much calmer day today! And I hope you got in a lot of reading.

Enjoy your Friday!

Mema – my DH is going to Prague for a week. It’s an international standards meeting and they like Prague b/c it’s fairly inexpensive for a major city. Since people come to the meeting from all over the world, it has to be a place w/ not too many visa restrictions, too.

I like the idea of fruit salad although I’d leave the yogurt separate just in case people are lactose intolerant. I’m always thinking of ‘vegetarian’ options b/c of DGS, but it sounds like your dinner last week was all meat, too.

We do have only one car. DH started working from home a number of years ago and we decided we didn’t really need a second car so we gave his to our DD. There have only been a handful of times that we’ve really run into problems w/ not having a second car. It helps that we can walk to a lot of the places we go.

Leslie – do I remember that your postal workers were on strike earlier? Sounds like they weren’t satisfied w/the results of the strike.

I was thinking about the third way to enter a phone number b/c the way credit card numbers are entered w/o any dashes or spaces.

We had lovely weather for the first day of spring. I did a lot of walking and some outside work. Fixed the ‘gate’ in my garden fence and picked up some winter trash from the beds. It’s still way too early to plant anything but I spent some time w/ the seed catalog.

Yesterday, I walked down town to deliver a tax document that came a day after I took our paper work to the accountant. Then I walked to my meeting even though I was a bit early. I'm glad I got there early b/c the church secretary was late and the building was locked. The only person there was the invited speaker - standing outside wondering if she had made a mistake in the time or place. I am the keyholder for another meeting at that church so I could let us in and we set up the room for the meeting together.

It was another gloomy, misty day here today. I'm looking forward to some sun pretty soon. We've had several gloomy days.

I did run over to my FIL's mailbox to check for mail. There was mail there, but we're also getting mail that is being forwarded, so we're not sure exactly why all of it is not being forwarded. And it's not all catalogs or things like that. So we'll hold onto the key and keep checking.

Then we had church and supper afterwards. The gal this week made a chicken noodle soup, and then had meat and cheese sandwiches to go with. It was all good. Next week I guess we're having build your own baked potato bar - that should be good. Then it will be my week - I'm nervous about cooking for 50 people! I've never done that before. I'm making hamburger soup (like a vegetable beef soup with hamburger), crackers and bread and then a fruit salad (3 different kinds of fruit mixed w/vanilla yogurt) to go with. Do you think I should have anything else? The desserts will be provided. I do the main meal. Or any suggestions instead of the fruit salad? I'm open!!

Tomorrow I may do laundry. I'm also getting my hair cut! I can't wait for that. It's getting way too long and won't "go" the way it should!

Leslie - That is terrible that the postal carrier said he attempted delivery when he didn't. I'm sorry you have to wait now for your books. Usually you can track your packages online and when you know they are to arrive, could you post a note on your mailbox or somewhere to let them know you are home?
I'll have to check online about the U-lactin creams - my mom's podiatrist was the one who recommended the cream for her feet. She was diabetic and it was a good cream, but the smell was just awful!

Kate - Where does your DH have to go this time for his trip? Will he be gone long?
Nice that your church does a breakfast occasionally. I think the only time we do that is on Easter Sunday after service. We have an earlier time, so we can have the breakfast. We have been doing more "food" at church this year than in years past. But it's been kind of nice, too.
Do you just have one car? DH and I right now just can't do that. We both go too many places for our own meetings and such, that one car would not do.

Have a good day!

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I was worn out from being upset about the postal carrier who claimed he had 'attempted' to deliver a package Monday afternoon, when I was home, and did not receive either a call from the lobby or a knock on my door. This is the second time that has happened. I won't be able to get it until next Tuesday when my housekeeper will be here. She will go to the postal station for me instead of mopping my floors. It just infuriates me that they can say they tried to deliver a package, when I know that is false. The package contains the books I had ordered from Amazon. I called Canada Post yesterday to complain. This morning I got another package which the person delivering it seemed to throw against my door! I guess that is in retaliation for my complaint. Unfortunately I am still expecting more packages. I just hope they will all come when I am home, and I hope I will be notified about them!

Mema - how wonderful that you led the Zumba and did so well!
My U-Lactin is scent free. I'm sorry the one you had smelled awful.
It sounds like you had a very busy day yesterday! I'm glad things went so well with the cable company. Your method of dealing with things like that is obviously the right one!
Your anniversary dinner sounded wonderful. I love shrimp, but the shrimp I had at Red Lobster a couple of years ago was awful - mushy rather than firm. I bought my own shrimp not long after that, and cooked it right - that was good! Your DH's shrimp in a spicy sauce sounds delicious!

Kate - your third example of how to enter the phone number turned out to be correct. That format occurred to me while I was complaining about it here! I was sure I had already tried that, but apparently not. Anyway it's all OK now.
I'm glad your phone conference went well, and that everything looks good for your DH's retirement.
Unfortunately I missed the exercise class today because I wanted to be here for a delivery.
I'm glad it worked out for your DH to drive on a day you don't need the car!

I hope you are both having good days!

Leslie - hope you had a good day reading yesterday. Are your muscles still feeling the workout?

Mema – nice that it worked out so well to just turn in the equipment for your FIL’s cable. Sometimes it really makes a difference being there in person.

Glad you had a good anniversary dinner. I love shrimp. I like them fried best of all but shrimp cocktail is a good second. Those cool rainy days seem to be made for staying home.

Our church does breakfasts from time to time. We have one this Sunday which will be really nice since DH is leaving on a business trip on Saturday.

Today I have a meeting and DH will be driving up to the local company office for a luncheon. The company that merged w/ his company are taking the next step in the merger and announcing their new name. Nice that it came on a day when I don't need the car.

Had a good Bible study this morning, then ran to Walmart right after. Unloaded my groceries and then went to my meeting. I took a short nap and then DH and I went out for our anniversary dinner. But before we ate, we stopped at Spectrum Cable to return my FIL's equipment that he had in his house and cancelled his monthly bill. My DH had tried to cancel over the phone, but they said they needed a copy of the death certificate in order to do that. We still don't have that yet, but he printed out a copy of the obituary that ran in the local paper down here. A funeral home will not run an obit w/out first verifying the death, so he thought that might work.

I went into the place for him and I just told the guy I was returning the equipment and wanted to cancel the contract. The guy did it all for me and back dated the cancellation to Feb. 20th when DH first called in. When I told that to my DH he asked if I showed them the obit and I told him no - I didn't say anything about that. It's been a little bit of a joke between DH and me. He tends to offer a lot of information right away or will start a conversation like this - "I know you probably can't give me such and such information ........" and I always do the opposite of that. I tell him, let THEM tell you whether or not they can give you information or let THEM ask for documents if they need them. So, anyway he was very pleased it's all taken care of and they will send out a refund check in 3-4 weeks!

The place we were going to eat was just down the street from the cable place so that was why we stopped there first. We ate at Dirty Al's Bayou Grill - weird name, but this guy "Al" started his restaurants down on S. Padre Island. His first one was a little spot right on the Gulf, but he serves fresh Gulf caught shrimp as well as other seafood. Now he owns about 6-7 restaurants all together. Mostly seafood, but also a burger place and a Mexican restaurant. Anyway, I wanted the shrimp there. And it was delicious!! They are huge shrimp that they butterfly so they cook up perfect. I always get the fried shrimp - not the most healthy, but very good. DH got a meal of 1/2 fried and 1/2 Shrimp Estouffe - which was unbreaded shrimp in a spicy sauce. He said it was very good.

Came home and hunkered down for the evening. It turned out to be one of the dreary days - cloudy, cool and light rain most of the day. I watched American Idol that I had recorded.

Tomorrow I will go over and check FIL's mailbox to see if it's empty - we have been getting the forwarded mail now, so DH thinks I can turn in the mailbox key. And I will go and see the gals over in the Personal Care section that were so good to my mom to say good-bye to them. I will miss them.

Then we have church and supper afterwards, so no cooking for 2 days in a row! emoticon That was kind of nice!

Kate - The cardio teacher said I did fine in leading and she texted the Zumba instructor and she emailed me and said I could lead the class on Monday (even with her there)! So we'll see how that goes. It will be good practice anyway!
Glad to hear things are good for your DH's retirement, whenever that might be.
Even if the air is a bit chilly, having the sun out sure makes a difference - nice that you could do your errands all by walking.

Leslie - Hope you had a good day and got in some reading and any other catching up you needed to do.

Happy Hump Day!

Mema – glad the mammo wasn’t too bad. And it did sound like you needed a nap yesterday.

Nice that you could lead the Zumba part time w/the cardio teacher there. Did she have any comments on your routines?

Leslie – sorry about the hard time trying to order. Hope they get back to you soon about your order. I can only think of 3 different formats for phone numbers: (xxx)xxx-xxxx or xxx-xxx-xxxx or xxxxxxxxxx.

It does sound like a good exercise class if your felt your muscles working.

The phone conference went well. Our adviser has some changes he wants us to make in our retirement funds. He wants us to look over the material he will send and meet in person early next month. But, all in all, things look good for DH’s retirement whenever he decides he’s ready.

It's been low 40's around here and sunny. Yesterday I decided to do all my errands on foot. A bit of a biting wind but otherwise quite nice to be walking around town. Yoga class today.

My smash-o-gram wasn't bad. I must have had a good technician. Bible study was just "ok" today, nothing special. But maybe because I was tired. I didn't sleep well last night.

Then I went up for Zumba and was able to lead 3 routines! I think I did OK. The cardio gal was very excited when I asked if I could lead, so it worked out well.

Then DH had some errands to run and I did take a nap. That felt good. Tomorrow I have Bible study at church and then my meeting. And will probably run to Walmart.

Leslie - I'm sorry you were having such a hard time with your order. I've run into something similar, maybe not with phone numbers but other things like passwords. It does get frustrating.
I was told about U-Lactin from my mom's foot doctor! It is a very good lotion, but does your have a scent? The tube I bought my mom had a terrible odor. I did use it on my legs and feet, but it just smelled so bad putting it on. Maybe there is an unscented version. I just bought my mom's at Walmart.
Glad you had a good exercise class!

Kate - I hope your phone conference with your financial planner went well.
I love making cold roast beef sandwiches. We don't buy "roast beef" any longer, we use brisket now, but the result is usually the same.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

I have just had a frustrating time trying to order something online. I have ordered from that company before, but now they want my phone number which is fine, but every way I've tried to enter it is the 'wrong format', so I have no idea what they want! I've sent a message to them, but don't know when I'll get an answer. Usually a company will show an example of how to enter numbers, but this one doesn't.

Mema - I'm glad you had such a good day yesterday, but sorry the ribs weren't tender. I'm sure that was disappointing.
The lotion is called U-Lactin. I had never heard of it before, but I ordered it through amazon.ca as my friend suggested. I think it's wonderful.
You really are having a busy day today! I hope everything goes well. I should be having my mammogram this month too, but I haven't been notified yet.

Kate - your cold roast beef sounds good! I do the Meatless Monday thing, so will probably have either an omelette or quesadilla tonight.
I hope your conference call goes well this afternoon.

Our exercise classes resumed today - I could feel my muscles working today, so I guess it's good to be back.

I hope all is well with you both!

Mema – I’m normally awake around 5:30 so 4 AM is kind to the tipping point. If it’s much later than 4, it’s not worth trying to get back to sleep.

Hope all goes well w/ the mammo. Sounds like you’ll have a busy first part of the day.

Leslie – nice to have a good lotion for your dry feet.

I’ve had those kind of “wide awake” in the middle of the night times. Now that I have an iPad, I sometimes grab it and read part of a book. Since I don’t need to turn a light on, I can often read for an hour or so and then go back to sleep.

We have a phone conference call w/ our financial planner late this afternoon and then DH has to be at the church at 6:15 for a meeting. I’m planning cold roast beef for dinner b/c the timing will tight.

Church, Bible study, nap, block party! That was my day. Nice and relaxing again. But tomorrow is busy.

Mammogram first thing in the morning, then Bible study, then Zumba is at 1:00 pm instead of 3:00. Then, not sure what is after that.

Leslie - the golfers didn't get rained out, but it was chilly for them. I was glad our block party was moved to indoors. Worked out well. We had bbq ribs, a mac & cheese corn casserole, fruit ambrosia and desserts. The casserole was actually very good. But the ribs could have been cooked longer - DH and I thought they were a bit tough - they were cooked thru, but not tender.
What kind of lotion did you order? My feet get dry, too.
I'm glad you had a nice quiet day!

Kate - I do remember now that you are studying Mark - that's a good book.
I understand about kids and the computer, too. I think my grand kids tend to get too much time on them, but not when I'm around! I think they can serve a purpose at times.
If I woke up at 4:30 it would be like the middle of the night for me - and back to sleep I would go! LOL

I'd better get to bed, though as I have to be at the mammo place at 8:30 am and that means I'm up about 6:30 am! Yikes!!

Enjoy your day!

Mema - I'm glad you finally had a relaxing day!
I don't blame you for not wanting to go out when the restaurants are so busy. Happy Anniversary for today, BTW!!
Enjoy the day off from cooking for the block party! I hope the golfers aren't getting rained out.
I don't think I'd have the patience for such a long movie, or one with so many stunts. The movie I watched last night was called Juanita. It was a good story. It was only about 90 minutes.
I hope your DH won't have too much trouble changing the spark plugs, but I'm sure it is a good change for him to get away from the paperwork!

Kate - I'm sure that when our temps were in the 50s, there were people in shorts here too. That was probably the day before you had the warm day.
Ah, the computer makes DGS want to stay home for lunch! I can understand that.
I would normally have tried to go back to sleep at 2 AM also, but I felt really revved up that morning, as if I'd had about 3 cups of coffee, so I would not have been able to get back to sleep then. I've been sleeping better since then.

I'm having a nice quiet day - just got done soaking my feet, and my new lotion is working wonders on my poor dry feet!
Now it's time to read.

I hope you're both having lovely Sundays.

Mema – we’re doing the book of Mark. The sermons are on Mark as well so we do the same passage ahead of time. That way on Sunday morning we’ve already had a chance to tackle the passage ourselves and the pastor just adds to what we’ve already learned.

That day when the temps reached 60, our mail carrier was in shorts. I was out w/ just a sweater not a coat. It felt lovely.

Nice to have a block party before people start scattering for the summer. And nice that you have a day off from cooking.

Leslie – most of the time DGS wants to eat here now. He used to like going out for lunch but now he knows he can play some computer games while I make lunch and he likes that better.

Sometimes if I wake up around 4:30, I’ll just stay up. At 2 AM I really try to go back to sleep.

We’re having dry weather here for the next several days w/ highs around 40 – 45. Not bad for March.

Had a NON-busy day today! LOL I slept in until 9:30 - but I didn't go to bed until close to 1 am I think it was. Practiced my Zumba today and got my ironing done.

DH and I are not going out tonight for our anniversary. We don't generally go out on Friday or Saturday nights. The restaurants are very busy then and we have Spring Break going on down here, too. Although most of that is down on S. Padre Island. We will probably go one day next week.

Tomorrow we have our block party. Most of the streets down here in our club hold block parties at the end of the season. We usually have ours at the outdoor pavilion just down the street from us, but with the cool weather, we'll be up at the clubhouse in one of the smaller rooms. So I won't have to make dinner tomorrow. That starts at 4:00 pm. We just have to bring our own drinks - the 2 couples who volunteered for this year are doing all the cooking themselves! Usually it's a potluck type of deal. And then they also have golf for those who want to do that in the morning and early afternoon. But tomorrow it may get rained out for the golfers.

Leslie - I went with a friend of mine down here several years ago to a Zumba class and liked it, but didn't want to keep driving someplace for it. I had thought about teaching it myself, but it was quite expensive to become a "certified" instructor. And I didn't know about all the routines online, so until this year, I hadn't done it. But yes, I guess I do have a passion for it!
The movie was pretty good, although it was 2 1/2 hours long! And the Mission Impossible movies tend to get pretty crazy with all the stunts, but that's what his (Tom Cruise) movies are like.
DH thinks the car needs new spark plugs (a certain kind, not just your regular ones). He went to the auto store and bought a set. He's going to do that himself. It is probably a pretty easy fix, but on this car - the Lincoln, the spark plugs and wires are not all easy to get to. I tried to tell him he really didn't have the extra time to put towards that, but for him, it's like a distraction from all the paperwork he's been doing.
Did you find a movie to watch for yourself?

Kate - What are you studying in your Bible study? I don't remember if I asked you about that. If I did, then it's a senior moment and I've forgotten.
Did you go out for lunch?
Temps in the 60's does sound nice for you! I know in MN and WI, that when temps would reach 50, people would be in shorts! For us down here now, that's cold!! LOL

Have a peaceful Sunday!

Mema - I'm glad you have such a passion for the Zumba!
How was the movie last night? I seem to be running out of things I want to watch on Netflix. I hope I'll be able to find a movie for tonight.
You're right that your DH's time is worth money, and I hope he'll let a mechanic take care of the car unless it's something very obvious and easy to do.
Is it tonight you're having your anniversary dinner? I hope it's wonderful!

Kate - I can imagine how hard it would be to wipe the paws of 3 excited dogs!
I woke up late last Monday and Tuesday but have been early since then, but yesterday was ridiculously early - I think it was before 2 AM! I stayed up because I felt very wide awake then, but felt exhausted for most of the day. I did better today.
Did you have lunch out with your DGS, or did you cook something?
Good luck with your laundry!
It's quite a bit colder here again today. We've got more fresh snow, but next week we are supposed to have sun and relatively mild temps, so I hope a lot more of the snow will melt.

I hope you both have good days.

Mema – yes, I used to wipe my dog’s paws. But w/ the three of them and none of them being as well trained as my dog’s used to be, I’m not sure I could manage. I should try to work on that.

We used to fix our cars when we were young and poor. It was a great relief to pass that task onto a mechanic when we could afford it. Neither of us liked doing it.

99 degrees sounds way too hot for me. Sorry your box got all wet in the rain. Nice of your DS to open it and let things dry out.

Hope your anniversary dinner is really good when you go out tonight. We usually celebrate our anniversary on which ever Friday or Saturday night is closest.

Leslie – I’ve been waking up way too early this week, too. Probably something w/ the time change although you would think it would make me sleep later.

I’ve had crumpets before. You’re right, the holes are good for holding the butter and jam.

Funny to ask for meatloaf and end up w/ fried chicken. I wonder how that happened.

Just an ordinary Saturday here. I have a Bible study in the morning and DH will drive down and pick up DGS for his swim lesson. We’ll have lunch together and then take DGS home again. And today is laundry day so we’ll be switching loads all day, too.

Yesterday was amazingly warm – in the 60’s – but it will be back in the low 40’s today and for the next several days. I still have snow on my garden but a lot of the yard is clear.

Got my laundry done today and practiced my Zumba. I taught myself a new routine. Not to use this year, but maybe for next year. And I have a whole bunch of other routines lined up for myself if I want to learn those over the summer. I put those into an email, too.

Tonight DH and I are watching a Netflix DVD - a Mission Impossible movie with Tom Cruise. Those are always "exciting", but it's long - 2 hours.

Leslie - I'm sorry you couldn't nap today.
I think cable/internet/tv companies must run a call service every so often. We get those calls, too. We have internet with a company, but no TV or phone service.
DH will try and figure out the car himself first, but I think he's getting tired of doing it, it just bothers him to spend money on cars when most of the time he can fix it himself. I do try and tell him that his time is worth $$, too.

Kate - Actually, transferring the songs is easy. When I have youtube open and find a song I like, I just right click in the address bar and then click "copy", then go to my email account (I'll have 2 windows open) with a "new" email to myself and then right click in the body of the email and click "paste". So it's actually an easy thing to do. And it gives me not only the song, but the video that goes with it. Which is nice for the routines I want to save. And then I just put as many as I need into the email and then send it to myself!
Oh, how I remember days of rain and mud and having dogs. I would have to keep a large towel by the door and wipe their paws off before I would let them come inside!

Time for my movie!

Have a great Saturday!!

Mema - I'm very sorry about the car that wouldn't start. Is it getting fixed today?
Good for you for figuring out a way to have your Zumba music on your phone. I wouldn't have a clue about that.
I'm glad you had your BL! I didn't have a sandwich last night because my groceries came late. I had a frozen dinner instead. I was going to make a tuna casserole tonight, but I'm too tired. I woke up way too early this morning, so I'm a little grumpy too. I may just have fish sticks, hash brown potatoes, and a salad.
I'm glad everything went well at the church, but you were there late!
Congrats on your upcoming anniversary! Enjoy your celebration, whenever you have it.
I'm sorry one of the boxes you sent got wet. We are getting a lot more rain now, but it's supposed to change to snow at some point. The snow that's left looks brown and ugly. It was really hot there!
If you Google crumpet, you can see what they look like. They're the size of an English muffin, but not 'bready' - I don't know how to describe the texture. The top has holes like a sponge, so the butter really soaks in - I love them.

Kate - I just get groceries every 2 weeks, so I do know what's available in my freezer. I didn't get any meat this time and my bill was under $120 which is unusual. Unfortunately, there were 2 problems. I asked for Stouffer's meatloaf but got a fried chicken breast. I don't know how that happened. When I talked to Cathy this morning, she said she was looking right at the meatloaf! The other thing was a container of whipped cream cheese which has an expiry date of today. They are going to exchange that this afternoon.
I'm sorry you have a lot of mud. I can imagine the muddy paw prints! Too bad your stairway had just been cleaned!

I've tried to lie down a couple of times, but that hasn't worked. Last time I got another phone call from my phone and internet service provider. They demand to know about twice a month why I don't have my TV service with them. I've explained it so many times that I just hang up on them now.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – sorry you got stuck w/ a car that wouldn’t start. Hope it’s an easy fix.

Nice to have a day when you don’t have anything to do. Particularly after a late night at the church.

That sounds very tedious getting the music transferred one song at the time to an email.

Leslie – bacon and tomato sandwich sounds lovely. I got some bacon from the meat co-op but it’s frozen so I have to thaw it out enough to separate the pieces. I’ll re-freeze them so I can pull out 2 slices at a time and cook them.

Since I only get my meat delivered once a month I have to do some long term planning for the main entrees.

How nice to have some money left over from the tax refund.

We were forecast for pouring rain today but it’s now been downgraded to showers. But it will be warm so more snow will melt. Right now the back yard is half snow and half mud. The house keepers cleaned the back door stairway and then I brought the dogs back in the house and they covered the steps w/ muddy paw prints.

Well, another busy day. DH went to Bible study and then wanted to go and pick up his car from the mechanic. We took his dad's car over there. I told DH I was going to stop at the grocery store and then be home. I got out to the parking lot after my shopping and the car wouldn't start. DH said he'd been having some trouble off and on with it and I had forgotten all about that. So DH came over and he got it started - that's the car we just had the brakes and new tires put on, so I'm sure that will go back to the mechanic.

When I got home I was trying to figure out how I could put the Zumba routine songs onto my phone so if and when I lead a class I'll have them. I couldn't find a "free" place for a playlist, so I copied and pasted the songs from youtube into an email to myself - so when I go up the clubhouse, I just play the songs from my email. Then I was looking at other Zumba routines that I could learn myself for next year. Haven't found anything yet.

Then I did do some cleaning while DH was at his Investor's meeting - bathrooms and vacuumed tile and carpets.

Made dinner early as I had to go to church tonight. Leslie - we had BLT's for supper - although mine is just the BL - I leave out the tomato.

It all went fine at church - the family provided the cookies and other desserts - cheesecake, carrot cake, mini cinnamon rolls and 3 different flavors of pound cake plus other home made things. But we didn't get out of there until 9 pm!

I don't think I have anything to do tomorrow! Yea!!! I'm the reader at church again this Sunday. And this Sunday is our anniversary - 15 years! And then we are also having a Gideon presentation. The gal who took over Bible study for me, her husband is a Gideon and they go to our church, too. So he's the one who will do the presentation.

I told DH that I wanted to go to Dirty Al's for shrimp for our anniversary. We always have to go on a day that's not the anniversary day being it's St. Patrick's Day, but that's ok with me.

Leslie - I spoke briefly with my DS today because I mailed up 2 boxes of things that I wanted to have up there and I knew it was raining there today. He said one of the boxes was a little wet, so he opened it up and spread the items out to dry thoroughly. Nothing got real damaged, so that was good. You may be getting more rain coming your way - it looked like a pretty big patch of precipitation.
I'm glad you woke up at your usual time today!
And I ended up having a fried egg sandwich for breakfast today! Every once in awhile that sounds good. Your crumpet sounds good - is that like a scone?
The cool front has come in, but it's not too cold right now. We were watching the news tonight and it got to 99 yesterday! We didn't know it was THAT warm! LOL

Kate - I have never tried any of the other nut butters, but they sound like they would be good, too.
I really should plan my meals; I usually figure it out the day of - I know what we have in our freezer so that does make it somewhat easy.
Did most of your snow melt today with your warm temps?

Happy Friday to you!

We are having the rainy day today, but I don't see the snow disappearing. We have a lot of it! It will be cooler again tomorrow with up to 2 cm of snow, which isn't much, but I'm very tired of snow.
For some reason I ended up with 5 things which were to be delivered! I got one of them this morning (lotion from amazon.ca that a friend had recommended for my poor very dry feet), so that leaves 4.
My tax refund is in my bank account, so I've distributed it, and still have a little left.
I've ordered groceries today, so they will be here this afternoon.

Mema - I'm glad you felt better yesterday. I hope you're fine by today. I have asked my doctor if I should get the new shingles vaccine and she said no, so I won't.
Your church supper sounded good. I hope that freezing the cake will work. I've never done that, but Sara Lee has frozen cakes...
I'm glad you can pick up DH's car today.
I did wake up at my usual time today, so I feel much better.
I hope you liked your peanut butter this morning. I had a crumpet with butter and strawberry jam. emoticon
You are having a lot of fluctuation with your temps!

Kate - you sound very organized with your meals. I haven't decided yet what I'll be having tonight - it will depend partly on when my groceries are delivered. I may have a bacon and tomato sandwich.
You'll be lucky if all your snow goes away today; I wish ours would! We almost always have snow in April, and now and then in May also.
I'm glad the dental appointment went well. I've had most of my crowns for almost 50 years! I also had an excellent dentist then. One of the crowns got pulled off a couple of years ago when I was eating a Tootsie Pop - my dentist was able to glue it back on, but even that was expensive! I haven't eaten a Tootsie Pop since then!

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – I’ve never tried freezing a cake that’s already been cut. I wonder if that will work? Still, it’s better than having it sitting around tempting you.

Glad you’re feeling better after the shot. It sounds like a really nasty one. I knew the first vaccine wasn’t really good but I figured any protection was better than none. Just like the flu shots aren’t 100% effective but I still get one.

I like peanut butter, too, and all the other nut butters – almond, cashew, etc.

Leslie – I plan out my meals for a week or two but I don’t specify what day I’m having each meal. I’ll look at my list the night before and decide what I’m making and take things out of the freezer if needed.

We’re going to get low 60’s and rain tomorrow so I’m hoping that will be the last of the snow. Although we’ve had snow as late as April some years.

The dentist trip went well, although she had a lot of problems getting the old crown off even though it was over 30 yrs old. I had a really good dentist back then. Unfortunately he retired and it took me a while to find this one.

I did feel better today, but took it a little easy. The other thing this shot did for both DH and myself is it makes a huge welt on your arm with a large red area all around the shot spot. That happened the last time, too. And it's tender to the touch.

I made my cake for church. We had to drop DH's car off at the mechanic. I tried to take a nap, but couldn't sleep, so I just rested. Our church supper was good. The gal for this week made chili and potato soup, corn bread, salad and then 2 of us brought desserts. I have about 10 pieces of cake left over so I put plastic wrap on it and covered it and put it in the freezer. I don't have to bring another dessert until April 10th. I'm hoping it will be ok for that long. If not, I'll bake something else, but worth the try. Otherwise I'll eat more than I should of it now!

Tomorrow we'll go and pick up DH's car - we had a message on our voice mail when we got back from church. DH has a meeting in the afternoon so I may do some cleaning if I get up the energy! Haven't really felt like doing much of that lately. Then I'll be back at church for the memorial service - just doing the set up and clean up for that.

Leslie - Sorry you're having a hard time with the time change.
I got an email from the Zumba instructor today asking if I wanted to lead the class today! Wow, I was surprised. But I couldn't as our church services are at 4 pm. Zumba is from 3-3:45. Nice that she thinks I would be able to lead the class.
I'm a huge fan of peanut butter. I have either toast or English muffin with peanut butter every day for breakfast! DH once told me that he didn't think I could ever survive if they stopped making peanut butter! Ha - I think he's right!!

Kate - I'll be curious to see what your doctor says about the shingles shot. I've heard people say that the first shingles vaccine wasn't very effective and so they are urging people to get this new one.
I hope you're getting rid of most of your snow with your warmer temps. It looks like you've got a few nice days ahead of you. We were 92 here today!! That was a warm one! But now we're getting a cool front coming in. Tomorrow's high is 79 and then in the 60's for the next few days with rain.
I hope all went well for your dental appointment.

Enjoy your Thursday!

My apologies for not posting yesterday. It was the day my housekeeper was here, so when she left at about 1, I just wanted to get away from the laptop!
I slept late again yesterday, so had to hurry a bit to get ready for her arrival. Today I had my alarm set, because I don't like to get up late, and of course I woke up about half an hour before it went off. I will set it again tonight. I don't usually have such a hard time with the change, but this is unpleasant!

Mema - I'm sorry you suffered again from the shingles vaccine. I hope you're better today, and I'm glad that was the last one, at least until you're over 65.
I'm glad you had that Zumba class after all!
I'm very sorry you have yet another memorial service to attend!
I did get my hair cut. I think it's shorter than usual, but my housekeeper said she likes it, and now my hair will be growing faster, as it does in spring and summer.
That cake you're making today sounds good! I like peanut butter cups. Other than those, I really don't care much for peanut butter any more. I think that's because I took peanut butter sandwiches to work with me so often - I just got tired of it.

Kate - I'm glad it only took 35 minutes for you to drive your DGS home with you.
Good for you for planning your meals for the week. I usually only know what I'm having a couple of days ahead. I made curried chickpeas on Monday, and will be having those leftovers tonight. I'm looking forward to that!
We've still got a lot of snow on the ground too, but tomorrow it's supposed to be in the low 50s with rain, so I hope we'll lose a lot of it!
I'm sorry about your long dental appointment today. I hope it goes smoothly.

I am trying to catch up with things today, but I'm still pretty far behind.

I hope you're both having good days.

Leslie - how was the hair cut? Did you do anything different or just a trim?

Mema – sorry the shot is giving you problems again. At least you know what’s going on and are prepared. When I have my physical later this year, I’ll have to ask her about that shot and if I need it. I did have the older shingles vaccine.

We’ve got several inches left on the ground even w/the warm days. I was walking home from my meeting on Monday along a retaining wall and a robin was hopping along side me on the edge of the ground where the snow had melted. My first robin of spring! We’re getting rain later this week so I hope that washes away the last of the snow.

I’ve been so draggy feeling the last two days. Just not quite in sync w/ the time change yet. I had been trying to go to sleep an hour early and that wasn’t working so last night I stayed up an extra hour later than usual. Perhaps tonight I’ll be tired enough to fall asleep at the right time.

Today I’m headed to the dentist to get yet another tooth crowned. There is a very old crown on the tooth now and last year the dentist noticed there was a hole in the tooth right at the base of the crown. I’m not looking forward to the long session in the dentist chair today.

When I went to bed last night, I had my heating pad on the floor next to the bed and a sweater at the foot of my bed. I was kind of thinking that if I have these things all set to go, I won't need them. But that didn't happen. About 3 am I woke up with chills, fever and body aches. Like a really bad flu. So I used my heating pad and put on my sweater.

I skipped Bible study this morning. But about 11:30 I felt a little better and ran some errands. But then I came home and rested all afternoon. I will probably go to bed early tonight, too. Thank goodness this only lasts about 24 hours. And now that I've had the 2nd shot I'm all done. Although, the pharmacist did say because I'm "younger" that I will need to get this again once I'm 65 or older. Not looking forward to that at all. Sigh!

Kate - I don't know why, but this year the time change has not affected me as it has in the past. I'm not sure why, but I'm glad about that.
I'm glad your drive home from DGS's school went relatively quick. That's always nice when that happens.

Tomorrow I don't have a lot to do. I do have to bake a cake for dessert after our Lenten supper. But I can do that in the morning and then frost it in the afternoon. I'm making a chocolate fudge cake with peanut butter frosting and then chopped peanut butter cups sprinkled on top.

Leslie - I hope you had a good day of reading!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Mema – hope the shingles shot doesn’t bring on the same complications as the first dose.

Nice that you still had your Zumba class. It’s always sad to show up for something and no one else comes.

I’m glad the swollen gland is responding to the antibiotic. Those neck glands can be quite painful.

Yes, my degree was in Materials Engineering w/ a specialization in bio materials. I worked as a research engineer for a company that made implantable devices. I loved my work but was OK with leaving it when I decided to home school.

Leslie – I find it hard to get to bed on time after the time change. And hard to get to sleep so early. I think that’s why it’s hard to get up early in the morning.

Enjoy your haircut. I do like having someone do my hair.

I picked up DGS and got back here in very good time – only 35 minutes for the drive back. We usually hit the beginning of rush hour and it takes closer to an hour. I watched him do his homework and checked it and then he had free time until dinner. DD came to pick him up around 7:30 so it wasn’t too late.

Today I’ll be headed off to yoga class and then doing some shopping for things I’m running low on. All my meals for the week are planned.

Just before I got up this morning I got a call from Walgreen's that DH and I could come in for our 2nd Shingles shot about 12:30 - so I told them we'd be there. I had the first one back in November, but had a terrible reaction - chills, fever, etc. But you have to have your 2nd dose w/in 2-6 months after having your first dose. It has been 4 months, so I figured I'd better go. So far today, I've been fine. I took some ibuprofen when I got home and just took another dose at 9:00 pm. Hopefully, I won't have those horrible symptoms again.

Had Bible study in the morning - we started our new study - Golden Fruit. I think this is going to be a good study. Then went and got our shot. When it was close to the time for Zumba I went up and the clubhouse was all set up for a dinner that was going on in the late afternoon. No one was there for Zumba (and usually someone is early). I thought maybe I missed that it wasn't being held today. So I decided I would go to the exercise room and walk on the treadmill for awhile as long as I was there. But just a couple minutes before 3 pm I thought I would check the main hall and one of the instructors was there and a couple others as well. So we did have our class. I was glad.

This evening I watched a couple of shows to catch up - New Amsterdam and American Idol.
Tomorrow I have Bible study at church, my meeting, I have to stop at Walmart to pick up some groceries. I have to bring a dessert for our soup suppers after Lent service on Wednesday. Then on Thursday evening I have to be back at church for ANOTHER Memorial service. It is for one of our shut-ins who passed away over the weekend. They are just having cookies and coffee and ice tea. And the family is providing the cookies, so we just have to have everything served and the drinks made - easy enough.

Leslie - The gland in my neck seems much better - at least for now.
Sounds like you make good use of the books you no longer want. That's nice that you can put them by the elevator for other's to take.
Did you get your hair cut? I'll have to do that one of these days. My hair seems to grow so fast down here. Plus having short hair I think you have to have it cut more often.
Thank you for what your said about DH's daughter. She is a very warm and caring person - and she is quite smart!

Kate - Ugh! Heavy wet snow - that's the worst! I saw on my phone that DS's town is now under a flood watch! With all of the snow they've had, now the temps are going to be around 40 with rain. They just can't seem to catch a break!
My step-daughter has worked on projects that directly affect her neighborhood and she really enjoyed that. She was on TV about it, too.She really does enjoy the type of work she does. Didn't you get a degree in Engineering?
Was your DD able to pick up DGS reasonable early? Does your DGS have a lot of homework?

Time for bed!

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Mema - I'm very sorry about your swollen gland - I hope the antibiotics you have are the right ones for the problem, and are starting to help. You're right that if they don't do the job you'll need to see your doctor after all.
I don't blame you for going to bed early Saturday night. I go to bed early pretty much every night, but usually between 8-8:30. I usually get up around 4 AM, but this morning I slept until almost 6:30! I could hardly believe it. I can't remember when I last slept that late. I've been behind with things all day.
Thank you for the link to your DH's daughter. She looks like a lovely young woman, and is clearly extremely intelligent. I'm glad she is enjoying what she is doing.
I'm glad you're able to get the weather for Owen Sound! They said on the radio that we might get blowing snow today but I haven't seen any. It's right around the freezing point. You have certainly had some hot weather! I would love that! I don't like humidity at all though, which is why I like West Texas, as well as NM and AZ, and also the CA desert.
I am looking forward to the new books! Some I keep if I think I might want to refer to them again, or pass them on to my son and his family; some I give away by putting them out on the bench by the elevator; some I donate to the library.
There's no exercise today, but I will be getting my hair cut this afternoon in about an hour. I'll be happy to see Joanne!
You are having a busy day, with Bible study and Zumba! I hope they both go well, and you feel up to doing both.

Kate - I'm sorry you got some heavy snow - I hope it's melting quickly and there isn't a lot of ice from the cold nights.
I'm sorry you need to return one of the bras! That's always a pain.
Nice that you can pick up your DGS from school today. I hope you won't have to stay up too late.
I guess the time change is partly why I slept so late this morning! It's a good thing there wasn't a class this morning - I may not have been able to get there!
Besides the books, I have 3 other things I'm waiting for, so I'll be excited to get them all!

I hope you are both having enjoyable days.

Mema – sorry about the infection. Nice that you had a prescription you could use as needed. My endodontist gave me one just before I went away last summer – just in case the infection in my tooth flared up. Hope the swelling goes down and you feel better soon.

Your step-DD is lovely. Sounds like she does some pretty interesting work, too.

Leslie – that sounds like yucky weather w/ the snow and blowing. Glad you don't have to go out in it.

What fun to be waiting for a package of new books. I just got an order of new bras. Two of them fit nicely but the 3rd needs to be returned so that’s on my to-do list for this week.

Here, the snow started around 9 Sunday morning and it was really heavy for a while – big sticky flakes. Between the snow and the time change, church was only half full. Then it rained off and on in the afternoon. DH decided not to go out and try to clear the driveway. I hope it’s not too icy this morning. It will be above freezing during the days this week but below overnight.

Today my DD has to work late so I’ll be picking up DGS from school and bringing him here. We’ll get his homework done and have dinner. Not sure when DD will drop by to pick him up. Hope it’s not too late since the time change is already making me tired.

Sorry about missing yesterday. The cleaning at church went well in spite of the fact we only had 6 of us there. But we focused on the Sanctuary and got that done. I cleaned windows! Came home and just did some things around the house. But while we were eating dinner, I was noticing the gland right under and a little behind my left ear was starting to hurt and got real swollen. This has happened to me off and on for many years and usually goes away if I take Ibuprofen, but this time it wasn't going away completely and so I took more Ibuprofen and went to bed early - like 7:00 pm early! I have a Rx that I got from my doctor for my sore throat if I needed it - it's just a penicillin med, so I had that filled today and started taking that. I figure I've got some sort of infection. If it doesn't go away after a week of this med, I'll have to go and see my doctor. So that was why I didn't post. I was in bed.

We had a hot week-end - it was 93 yesterday and 91 today! Breezy, so that helped and not overly humid, but I stayed inside mostly.

Leslie - My DH's daughter has her PhD in Civil Engineering and also has her Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering - here is a link to her specifically for the company she works for in case you just want to see who she is and what she looks like:

https://www.mwmo.org/about-us/our-staff/
stephanie-johnson/

I posted that she earned her Master's degree in NM - it was MN - although she did live in NM for awhile. She was teaching P/T at St. Thomas University in St. Paul (while working FT at MWMO) and then they offered her a job to "start" an engineering course, but she has 2 small children (9 and 6) and her partner works as well. The place she is at now, the director wants to retire and offer Stephanie his job. She passed on the teaching job for now. She has more flexibility with where she is at and she needs that more than a "new" project.
I did put in Owen Sound, ON on my phone and deleted Toronto. Thanks for giving me that info. It's just kind of fun for me to see the weather of people I know in different parts of the country! emoticon
How fun to get some new books with your gift card! I'm sure you are looking forward to getting them. When you finish books like that, that you have ordered for yourself, do you keep them or donate them to your library? For me, if I read a novel (or watch a movie) very rarely will I read it again or watch it again, so I give a lot of those types of books to our library here at our clubhouse.
I'm sorry you won't have exercise this week.
I texted my son this morning and he thought they got about a foot of snow out by him - but there is lots of blowing and drifting by his house, too.

Kate - When we had limited minutes on our cell phone plan, I rarely gave my number out, but now that we have unlimited minutes I give it to everyone. We still have a "land line", but I very seldom get any calls on it. DH doesn't give his cell # to anyone either, only our land line #. As a matter of fact, he never even set up his voice mail on his cell, so if someone calls, they can't leave a message. He tells people his phone doesn't take messages and people look at him oddly! He takes it with him only when he HAS to. He hates cell phones. But back when cell phones used to be a big as the portable land phones, he had to keep one with him every weekend - even when he was up at his cabin (our house now). He had to be "reachable" 24/7 for the Gillette Plant, which ran 24/7. So he doesn't want anything to do with phones if he can help it!
But I will say this about my phone, if I don't recognize a phone # on my phone, I don't answer the call. If it's important, they will leave a message. And I would say 9 out of 10 times that happens, there's never a message, so I know it's a spam call.

Bible study tomorrow in the morning and Zumba in the afternoon.

Have a happy Monday!

Kate - I also don't give out my cell number. It isn't even turned on at home unless I need to call one of the few people whose number I can't remember. Like, you it's mostly for calls when I'm away from home, such as calling for the mobility bus after an appointment.
Yes this coming week there will be no exercise classes. My housekeeper will be here Tuesday, so that will be the 'big event' for the week, aside from ordering groceries, probably Thursday.
How is your weather? We're apparently getting some freezing rain now, but it will be snowing and blowing later, with 50 mph winds.

Mema - I hope all is well.

I hope you're both having good days. I used more of my Amazon gift certificate to order 3 more books, so I'll be excited to get those in about 10 days! emoticon

Mema – did you have a lot of helpers there for the cleaning?

Nice that you still got your lunch even though you couldn't do the licensing swap.

That death certificate muddle is a real mess for people who need one right away.

Leslie – we originally bought the pre-paid plan for my DS when he got his first cell phone in high school. Since I’ve kept it up and running, I keep "out living" plans. When I got a replacement phone, I had to change the plan b/c the old one wasn't available any more. That's probably true of the plan I have now, too. I only use the phone when I’m out of the house and need to get in touch w/ someone. I rarely give out the phone number and tell everyone not to bother calling it b/c the phone is in my purse which is in my desk drawer and I never hear it ring. I use the land line for all my calls. And there is 31 cents tax added to my $5.

Nice that you got to your exercise classes. Is this coming week the one where there are no classes?

Sorry I wasn't here yesterday - just another day that got away from me, nothing special was going on.

Mema - I'm so sorry about the spiked punch, but I agree with your sponsor and Kate - it was unintentional on your part. I'm glad it didn't start cravings for you. I'm sorry too about another funeral.
I'm sorry there continues to be a delay for the death certificates. It must be awful for people who need the benefits/pensions etc. for survival! The end of the month is pretty far away.
How wonderful to have that eagle fly in front of you, leading you on your way. They are huge birds too.
Your DH's daughter has seen quite a bit of the country while getting her education. I saw a lot while I was with my first husband: New York (Brooklyn), San Francisco, Fargo, Grand Rapids (MI), Seattle, Williamstown MA, and Wisconsin, several places around Milwaukee, and 2 around Stevens Point. Then I was in OK and TX on my own when there weren't jobs for nurses here.
What did she get her PhD. in? Is she teaching?
I'm sorry that the place for the license plates moved, but I'm glad you were able to eat at the Golden Corral! And, if the place is now in your town, it will be easier to get to on Monday!
I guess you're doing the cleaning at church today - well, you'll be done by now. I hope a few people were there to help.
I'm quite far north of Toronto actually, and we are often in different weather systems. They get the snow that goes south of us, and we get the snow to the north of them. If you could find Owen Sound (where I am) or Barrie (east of us but usually getting about the same weather), you would get a better idea.
We are having a nice day today - it's even just a little above freezing! But tomorrow we're expecting more blowing snow. Spring isn't here yet!

Kate - How wonderful to only pay $5/month for your phone! I do have an iPhone, but I'm not sure why. I just wanted a phone for emergencies, and I never send or receive texts. I use it for making some calls because the phone numbers are handy there, but I don't receive calls on it. I have been paying $22.60, which includes $2.60 in tax. I was just notified that my bill will be going up by $3/month!! I am not happy. Aside from making calls, I do take a few photos, but rarely. I may call another service provider to see about a better rate. When I used to do the prepaid thing, it was $15/month, and I'm sure that's up more by now too. And there would be tax added to that also.
I'm glad there was nothing serious wrong with your DD's car!
Yes, I did get to both exercise classes this past week! Thanks for asking.
I have 3 books on the go at the moment, so I'll be getting to them shortly.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – the Boston forecast is a good indicator of our weather. Since we’re farther from moderating effect the ocean water, we ‘swing’ a bit more. Often about a few degrees colder in the winter and 5 degrees warmer in the summer.

Our forecast is for sloppy wet snow tomorrow morning. Just in time to get up an hour early and get to church. Sigh.

Glad your sponsor was able to relieve your concerns.

Hope the cleaning goes smoothly at the church. We haven’t had a ‘work day’ at our church in quite a while. Last time it was outside work – we raked and pulled weeds from the flower beds and put down some mulch.

I do have apps on my IPad although I don’t have any of the games we put on the old one that my DGS uses when he’s over. I mostly use it for reading eBooks. I take it to my meetings when we do a 12 step study like today’s meeting.

Leslie - hope you have a good day reading. Did you get to all your exercise classes during the week?

I did talk with my sponsor today and she said basically what you said, Kate. I didn't knowingly drink the punch with the alcohol in it and when I found out it had alcohol in it, I dumped the remainder of it and asked if they would put a sign by it. So I felt much better after talking with her. I figured it wasn't a "slip", but just wanted to talk it over w/my sponsor. It didn't trigger anything either.

Today, DH and I picked up his dad's ashes. Still waiting on the death cert. I guess there is a letter that is or has been sent to our 2 Senators regarding this issue because there are people who can't get benefits - mainly money until they can provide a death certificate and some of those people need that money just to live. That is really something. I guess the state tried out this new system in 2 towns (smaller towns) and then put it into place up in Dallas and that's when it failed!

Then we went to go and get new license plates for his dad's car and found out the place had moved temporarily because this past summer it was flooded out! We were over in one town and the temp place was in our town. We had planned on eating at Golden Corral so we didn't get to the license place in our town in time before closing. He'll have to go there on Monday.

Tomorrow I'm going over to church. We are doing a "cleaning" - polishing all the pews, cleaning windows and I'm not sure what else. I'll be there from 9-Noon.

Kate - You're right about getting up in age where more of our friends are passing away now. And even tho' I'm not quite that old, most all of my friends down here are much older than me.
I love my smart phone, but I don't have an I Pad. If you have one of those, I think that's very similar except you can't make calls??? Do the I Pad's have apps you can install? I do quite a bit of texting and I like that, too. Our plan includes a limited amount of data, so I don't get pictures on my texts. For unlimited minutes and unlimited texts and 250 MB of data for 2 phones we pay $35.00/month with Consumer Cellular. And we LOVE them! Their phones, I think are reasonable, too. I have an Android phone, not an Apple I Phone.
I'm glad your DD's car wasn't anything major. I'm sure that was a relief to her, too!

I've added both Boston and Toronto cities on my weather app so I can check out your weather, too! I know you both don't live directly in those cities, but I can get an idea of your weather when I want. I usually check my DS's weather most days. They are in for another major snow storm tomorrow! Then their temps will warm up next week, too.

Leslie - I hope you had a good day of reading and catching up!

Have a great day!

Mema – sorry there was another funeral. I guess we’re getting to that stage of our life where more people we know are dying.

That’s terrible about the spiked punch. I read somewhere about the difference between “knowingly and intentionally” using and just getting caught unaware.

I don’t have a smart phone so I don’t have all that tech available to me. DH was suggesting that someday I may want to get one. IDK – I have a pre-paid phone that costs me about $5 a month unless I’m traveling and need more minutes to call home.

Leslie – I ended up not doing my strength training. I came home right after yoga class.

My DD called early in the morning and said she was going to be here b/c she had to take her car into the mechanic a few blocks from our home. It was making a shriek. It turned out there was just a tiny pebble caught in her wheel.

We’re going to be above freezing every day for the next week. It will still drop down to freezing overnight. I hope we don’t get too much ice from the snow melting during the day.

We had our 4th funeral to go to this winter!! We haven't had that many since we've been coming down here. We found out on Sunday evening that the wife of one of the Investor's Club that my DH belongs to passed away in her sleep. I guess she had been sick and losing weight and the doctor's couldn't find out what was wrong with her. We didn't know the husband was going to have a service down here. There was the funeral at the church in the afternoon and then afterwards he invited everyone back to the clubhouse for pizza and beer. They also had punch and water - I took a glass of punch and took a taste and it tasted funny to me. But I didn't think anything of it. It didn't taste like alcohol. When I sat down a gal came up to me and asked how I liked the punch - she said, "Oh, it's left over from Ladies Golf League today and we just added more Vodka". I was stunned! I couldn't taste any alcohol, but I immediately went up to where they were serving and asked if they could put a sign on it. I dumped mine and drank water. That's never happened to me before. I guess I know now to ask before I take something like that again. I feel awful. I'm going to call my sponsor tomorrow. I don't feel like going out and drinking or anything like that.

DH and I have some errands to run tomorrow. He's got to get new license plates for his dad's car and get the title changed. We'll check the mailbox over at his dad's place. And then go and pick up his dad's ashes. Those are ready, we're just waiting on the death certificates.

Leslie - that is funny about the raven and your partner! It must have been pretty tame. I've never seen a vulture up close. I did have a full size eagle fly in front of my car. He was on the side of the road up North eating whatever had been killed and when I got close to him, he took off in front of my car and was flying ahead of me - like I was following it. It flew low for quite a distance and then took off into the sky. I have a smaller car up North and the wing span of that eagle was close to the width of my car. It was an amazing site.
DH's daughter lives back in Minneapolis now. She's lived in WI (for college), Utah (her partner had a job out there for awhile, NM for her graduate degree and TX for her PhD.
I'm sorry you had such a cold day, but glad it will be warming up for you. We were in the low 70's here, but tomorrow we'll be 86 and on Saturday 93!

Kate - My DH got his "echo" first for his bedroom because he likes to listen to a certain radio station out of Chicago when he goes to bed at night and so I thought that was fine. And he bought it around Christmas or right after and got a good price. Then he decided to get the Alexa for the kitchen so he could continue to listen to that station in the mornings. I very seldom ask it anything. Personally, I would not waste my money on it. With my phone I can pretty much get whatever information I need. And I have a weather app on my phone, so I can see that, too. I guess I'm not really impressed with them.
Although one of the things we found out you can do with Alexa is ask her to play Jeopardy! She'll ask about 5-6 questions. That was kind of interesting and fun!
I think I would not want to have the name Alexa myself now.
Did you get in your strength training?
I'm hoping to continue with the Zumba in my house if the gal does stop or when we go back North. The gal emailed me all the steps and I have been practicing for next year.

Happy Friday!

Mema - I have also been to the Desert Museum! I loved it.
Another place I really liked was in Carlsbad, NM - I think it was called Living Desert. There were a LOT of plants, and several animals - I especially remember the birds. There was a raven who was entranced by my partner who was rather bald, but had a beard. The raven tried to turn its head upside down, I guess to get the hair on the correct position on my partner's head. They also played with a stone for a while - my partner would put the stone in front of the raven, who would kick it off the ledge; they repeated that for quite a while! There was also a vulture in an enclosure we walked through. What an enormous bird!
I've driven by White Sands, but haven't toured there. Las Cruces is where I would have liked to live. Where does your DH's daughter live now?
My concession to Ash Wednesday was having mac & cheese last night.

Kate - I hope you can do your strength training today.
I would hate to be named Alexa for that reason!
The emotional healing program sounds good. I hope it's helpful for you.
Before Alexa, there was Siri on the phones - I remember my son asking it questions the last time I visited. I'm quite happy with Google online!

We're having another very cold day, but it will be warmer for the next few days, and may even be above freezing by Sunday - that would be wonderful; I could open my windows wider.
I'm having another nice quiet day, and expect to do lots of reading.

I hope you both have good days.

I'm headed to yoga class today. I may stay a bit longer and do some strength training. I've been doing that on Mondays or Fridays but there was the snow storm this Monday, and I've signed up for spin class on Friday.

Mema – I met a newcomer at my meeting whose name is Alexa. I wonder what it’s like to have that name now? I didn’t ask b/c I’m sure she gets those questions all the time.

Nice that the car doesn’t need any more work and is ready to go for either keeping or selling.

Too bad the Zumba class won’t continue. Hope there will be enough interest to keep it going until you leave for the north.

Leslie – I’m doing an emotional healing program. It works in well w/ the 12 step work I’ve done – “clearing out the wreckage of my past”. I’ve always had the problem of binge eating when I get upset about something.

It’s a small convenience to be able to say something like “Alexa, what is the weather going to be like today?” and have it tell you w/o having to go and look it up. But I’d never have actually spent money on it. DH likes gadgets so he told DS that it would be a nice gift. My DGS actually used it more when it was new. He’ll still ask it to play songs for him sometimes or he’ll ask it questions.

We brought DH's dad's car over for the alignment, but the mechanic said with the new tires it didn't need it. That was nice. They also do the TX inspections and so now the car passed.

Did some laundry today and will finish up tomorrow. I did get to Zumba today. That was great. I found out we're only having it until the end of this month "officially". emoticon The gal who leads lives down here all year now, so she may continue for awhile in April and thru the summer if there are enough women here. That would be nice. I still need more practice so I can do it on my own after that. Went to Ash Wednesday service this evening and came home and watched American Idol.

Tomorrow I'll finish my laundry and run to Walmart and .........??

Leslie - We went to Chiricahua National Monument and then also went to The Desert Museum. Both were fantastic. We loved the mountains and scenery of AZ, but not the dry weather. And it was cooler than TX, too. We've also been to White Sands National Park in NM, that was pretty cool. DH's daughter lived in Las Cruces, NM for awhile.

Kate - On the Alexa, makes me wonder how much these devices "hear". Supposedly, they are turned "off" until you say their name, but like you say they come on from other things being said.
I'm pretty sure what happens down here at the Island with the spring breakers, is they pile in a number of kids into these rooms. Probably one of the ways they can afford to come down.

Enjoy your day!

Mema - I hope you can sort out what to do about all the cars!
No, I don't have Alexa - I think it would drive me crazy!
I've done a lot of touring in Arizona and NM, but more in NM. I love the desert! I have been in north, south, and central areas of both states. If I could, I'd be living in NM. One of my favourite places in AZ is the Organ Pipe cactus national monument - did you ever go there when you were near Tucson?
It is sad that the young people overdo the drinking or whatever, which causes deaths.

Kate - I'm glad it will be dry there for a few days. We are getting snow squalls today. I'm really looking forward to the warmer temps on the weekend.
What sort of program are you doing?

I went to my class this morning, and will soon be reading.
I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – my DS bought DH an echo a year or two ago for Christmas. It does occasionally come on and start talking from something one of us says or something that’s playing on the computer. I haven’t heard it start playing music, but it will start spouting facts about something.

I think the hotels can bump up the prices so high b/c the kids will put 4-8 people in one room and share the costs. Apartments in our area see the same kind of price pressure. There are so many college students who have multiple room mates and share the cost of a high rent. But it makes it very hard for a young couple or family to afford a place.

Leslie – our house lot is long and narrow and the garage is out in the back beyond the house so it makes for a long driveway.

The weather people say that this cold snap we’re getting now will keep things dry until the weekend. It was lovely and sunny yesterday even though it was cold.

I used to travel for work and found the best Mexican restaurants were in New Mexico.

OA meeting this morning and then I have some things to do on the computer - videos for a program I'm doing.

A little bit back to normal today. Went to Bible study at church and my meeting in the afternoon. It was still chilly here today, but in the upper 40's at least. DH got new tires on his dad's car this morning at Sam's Club. Tomorrow we'll drop it off at the mechanic shop to have it aligned. He's not sure yet what we're going to do - we have 3 Lincoln's (all older) but we have to sell one of them. And if we don't sell one before we leave, we'll have to find a place to store it. We have a 2 car garage and we leave 1 car here and the other half of the space is the golf cart and his work bench area. Oh, well, I'll let him figure that out.

Then I'll go to Zumba and then we have our Ash Wednesday service at 7 pm.

Question for you - do either of you have Alexa in your house? We just recently (well, 3-4 months ago) got 2 actually. DH has one in his bedroom and the other one is in the kitchen area. And the one in DH's bedroom answers to Echo and the kitchen answers to Alexa. This has happened now 3 times. We leave the house we turn on our radio in the kitchen (not Alexa). We started doing that when we had the dogs, but now I think DH keeps doing it to make it sound like someone is home. We live in a very safe place, but that's what he wants to do. Anyway, when I or we've come home after being gone several hours, both the radio and Alexa are on!! Has that happened to you or anyone you know? At first I thought it was the radio maybe doing it, because the station we listen to has a commercial they play for their station asking "Alexa to play 710 KURV". Only that's not the station Alexa is playing. It's usually a "pop" station. Very strange! So I was wondering if you have heard of this happening.

Leslie - I've never been to the panhandle in TX. We drove across New Mexico one year coming from Arizona, but we were on the south side of the states and came across the Big Bend area of TX. We spent our first few winters SE of Tucson.
I'm glad you got 3 books to read. And I hope you can get the other one when your friend comes.

Kate - Wow, you guys did get quite a bit of snow this time.
Too bad that DGS didn't have his snow pants.
I'm sure he had fun at Target and getting a new toy!
How very nice that the man with the plow plowed away all the snow at the end of the driveway for you DD.
We've got TX Week down here for the Spring Breakers. Then it will be the rest of the country. the following 2 weeks, I believe. It's amazing how high priced the hotels go out on South Padre during spring break. We've looked before spring break and the price for one on the beach runs about $89.00/night, but during spring break they all run between $200 - $400/night plus deposit!
And the saddest part, we usually hear of at least one young person dying while down here. It's so sad.

Have a great Wednesday!

Mema - emoticon on getting the keys turned in already! I'm sorry it was sad to see the people for maybe the last time.
Your temps have really been fluctuating! I envy the 80s that you'll have on the weekend. We may warm up to the freezing point by Saturday so I'm looking forward to that.
I don't blame you for skipping Zumba! You have really been working hard.
I'm sure your DH will be busy sorting things for quite a while!
I have to get back to sorting pictures too. I have so many things that I need to sort through - I have a list, but sometimes I get distracted by another project. I need to be more disciplined.
I lived in Amarillo, in the Panhandle - I loved the proximity to New Mexico, and I had a wonderful Mexican restaurant I could walk to.

Kate - you did get a lot of snow yesterday! I'm sorry your DGS didn't have his snow pants. Being cold and wet is no fun.
I'm sure the Father Brown books are quite different from the shows. Maybe there isn't a Mrs. McCarthy in the books, but she's quite funny. I get a kick out of their interactions.
The dishtowel with bluebonnets sounds pretty.
I did get to the class yesterday, and really want to get there tomorrow too.
My grandsons also have breaks in February and April, but here it's still March.
It sounds like you all did a lot of work clearing the snow yesterday. It's great that your DD had help with that big pile of snow at the end of the driveway. You have a long driveway!

We have been getting snow off and on today but I don't think it's supposed to amount to much.
My volunteer brought me the 3 books the library was holding, and of course today the library sent another email that one of the books I had requested last night is now available! They will hold it for a while, so I'm hoping I'll be able to pick that one up myself when my friend takes me out in a couple of weeks.
Today is my catch-up day, but I'm not taking the recycling downstairs because they are working on the elevators today, so only one will be available at a time, and there can be big crowds waiting... I'll do that job tomorrow after the class.

I hope you're both having good days.

Mema – that’s a wonderful accomplishment getting the whole place cleared out so quickly.

You’ve had a busy and emotionally charged week. I can understand why you didn’t want to go back out again after you got home.

Your Bible studies sound very interesting. I’ve done a different study based on women in the Bible and really enjoyed it.

Our typical winter, we get a total of 60 inches of snow. But it’s not uncommon to have a couple of thaws throughout the winter so the snow from the beginning of the winter rarely sticks around. In a usual winter, we will rarely have more than a foot or so of snow on the ground at any one time.

Leslie – from the one time I watched a bit of the Father Brown show, I think it’s quite different from the books.

A friend who lives in Texas gave me a dishtowel w/ bluebonnets printed on it. My kitchen has blue on the walls so it looks nice hung on a drawer handle.

Hope you get to your exercise class. Our schools have breaks in February and April so some of the exercise classes don’t meet then. The colleges have a break in March, but the YMCA follows the regular school schedule.

It was indeed the biggest snow storm of the season yesterday. We got a foot of snow to top off a winter with very low snow fall totals. DD decided to go out and get her car shoveled out early in the AM. Someone w/ a plow on his truck saw her and offered to help. He pushed aside the big heaps made by the street plows. Very nice! That’s always the hardest part to do. Even so, it was a lot of work. DD finished up the 10 ft in front of her car. DH did the rest of the 125 ft. driveway w/ the snowblower. I shoveled the steps, front walk and sidewalk.

DGS did go out and do some playing in the snow. It was above freezing and sunny in the morning. But DD forgot to bring his snow pants so he soon got too wet and cold. The afternoon was cold and grey so we did a little shopping trip to Target and I bought him a small toy.

emoticon Turned over the keys and garage door opener today!!!!! DH will keep one mailbox key to make sure he gets all the mail. He put in a change of address for his dad, but it can take a week or so for it all to get finalized.

I told him I would return the key because I want to say good-bye to the gals in Personal Care over there. I said good-bye to the main receptionist and the women in the office. I got to know all of them so well while my mom was there. It was kind of sad to think we won't have to go over there anymore.

I came home and did a little bit of ironing and rested. It was just a very blustery day. Our temperatures stayed between 37 - 39 degrees all day! And we had light rain most of the day and cold North winds. Tomorrow a bit warmer, no rain. But by the weekend we'll be back in the 80's! That will feel nice.

I skipped Zumba today. After we got home, I just did not feel like going back out again. I'll go on Wednesday. Tonight DH and I are watching a Netflix DVD that we got in the mail about 3 weeks ago! It's one of the Avenger movies, it's over 2 hours long and we just haven't had the time to watch it.

Tomorrow we start a new Bible study at church based on our Lenten theme - Behold the Man. Should be interesting. And I'll get to go to my meeting that I've missed the last 2 weeks. We didn't have our Monday morning Bible study as the gal who is leading, is on a cruise of the Panama Canal! And we'll be starting a new study there, too. The book is called "Golden Fruit - Living the furit of the Spirit through the best times of your life" -It's based on women of the Bible.

Leslie - Thank you for the compliment of Dakota - she's my sweetheart. I call her Tootsie Bell. She always gives me a weird look when I call her that. That's an old saying my mom used a lot.
You are correct in saying that DH will be sorting thru papers! Not me!! Not this time. And he's got a garage full of stuff to sort out now as well.
I'm feeling the same way about going thru my stuff so my DS won't have to. I guess that's kind of why I started sorting thru pictures. That project got way-laid so I'll have to get back to that.
I did listen to Gulf Coast Highway - I had never heard that song. It's a beautiful song! And I think DH and I have seen the bluebonnets once, maybe twice when we were driving back to WI. They are beautiful. What part of TX did you live? If you told me already, I'm sorry I must have forgotten. And your trivet sounds lovely!

Kate - I was surprised when you said you rarely get enough snow for fort making. I guess I just assumed you got near as much as the Midwest, only not so cold. But you've mentioned the rain you have gotten and it never rains in MN or WI during Jan/Feb.
What did you and DGS decide to do today?

Enjoy your Tuesday!

Mema - great photos! Thanks for sharing them. That fort, and the pile of snow, are impressive, and Dakota is a very pretty girl.
Your beef tenderloin dinner sounded heavenly!
You, and probably mostly your DH, will have a big job sorting out all the papers from your FIL's place. If he saved 'everything', no doubt a lot of it can be recycled. I am trying to get rid of a lot of my extraneous papers so my son and my sister won't have to deal with them.
I'm glad you can turn in the keys today - you did a lot of work very quickly!
Have you heard Gulf Coast Highway yet? I think it's a Nanci Griffith song - I love her too! On the duets album I was listening to yesterday, Emmylou was singing the song with Willie Nelson. One of the lines is "it's the only place on earth bluebonnets grow". I have a trivet (I think that's what it's called - for putting a hot pan or plate on...) which has a ceramic tile with a picture of bluebonnets on it. Some kind soul gave me that when I left Texas. I really didn't want to leave - I loved my job, loved my apartment, loved Texas, but I also loved my home here in Ontario, and I was still with my partner at that time, so I was really torn.
I used to watch American Idol, but haven't done that for a few years.

Kate - I hope your DGS is enjoying playing in the snow! Did he make a snow man? We always did that, and made a lot of snow forts too!
Maybe I should look for the Father Brown books too. I am really enjoying the show, especially the characters of Father Brown and Mrs. McCarthy.
I have called my library volunteer this morning but she hasn't called back yet. The library now has 3 books on hold for me, and I want to request 2 more, which I know I'll also have to wait for.
I'm glad you've had enough precipitation to replenish your reservoirs. Did you get much snow last night and this morning? I'm glad your DD and DGS were able to spend the night. I hope her car didn't have a huge amount of snow to clear off this morning.

I went to the exercise class this morning. There won't be any classes next week because of March break, so I certainly hope I get to the class on Wednesday this week.
We are supposed to get some snow today, tonight, and tomorrow, but not a lot. It's still pretty cold though, less than 10F.

I hope you are both having good days!

Mema – nice that you were able to get everything done so quickly and are able to turnover the keys.

But – oh, my! You and your DH are going to have a job going through all the papers and stuff you brought home w/ you.

Your DH must be very happy that he got the photos up for his dad to see and enjoy. That’s a reminder to us all that we should do things when we think of them b/c you never know how long anyone has in this life.

Your free dinner does sound lovely.

What a nice fort your DGD made. We rarely get enough snow to do that kind of thing, but there have been years when we did.

Leslie – I’ve read all the Father Brown books but have not watched the show.

We’re not really having that much snow compared to a usual year. And a lot of what we have had has been a mixture of sleet and freezing rain. We’re fortunate that the rain has brought the reservoirs up to full. We sometimes have a drought when there is very little snow.

We had a snow storm overnight. The schools are closed for the day. We told DD that she might as well come up and stay the night since she would have to stop here to drop off DGS for the day. It also means that she’s a dozen miles closer to her job and she has DH to help her dig out her car. She opted to park at the end of the driveway near the street instead of in the garage. She won’t have to wait for the whole driveway to be cleared even though it means she’ll have to clear snow off the car.

Not sure what I’ll be doing w/ DGS today. It’s supposed to be cleared off and fairly nice later in the day. Maybe he’ll play in the snow?

We've got one small load left for tomorrow and we're done!! After church we headed over to my FIL's place and just kind of got things in order. DH had to take personal pictures down - all those pictures he put up on the wall in the diamond shape! He did say he was very glad he got that all done for his dad and his dad enjoyed it so much. Met the other couples for lunch and that was very nice. We had a choice of beef tenderloin or Swiss chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, asparagus, stewed tomatoes, fresh baked rolls and a salad bar. Oh, and of course there was dessert! It was like a light cheesecake (no bake) with cherries on top. It was delicious. I had the beef tenderloin and it was out of this world good!

Afterwards, DH and I went back over to his dad's place. I changed clothes and we finished up. We just didn't have room in the car for the other things this afternoon. We'll call the director tomorrow so we can return the keys. DH filled up 3 plastic tote cases (like you get at Walmart) full with papers out of his dad's 4 drawer file cabinet that was in the garage!! I think his dad saved everything!

So, my dining room table is covered, the floor space around the back of the table is covered and the garage is piled high!! And we really didn't take that much, but it adds up.

Leslie - we did not have to get rid of furniture, bed frames, mattresses, some of the knick-knacks, dishes and glass ware. Although we did take a lot of miscellaneous glass ware, pots and pans, utensils (that were good) and of course all the clothes and bedding to Good Will. The place over there has a "White Elephant" sale every month and residents and outsiders can go and buy things. So that is a blessing to not have to worry about trying to sell furniture or moving it out. I suppose if you had very nice pieces and they were fairly new, you might want to do that. Luckily, my in-laws had decent pieces, but nothing that we would have wanted to sell. We didn't want to spend any more time there than needed. I'm guessing we won't have to pay any pro-rated monthly fee. They usually are pretty good about stuff like that.
I'm glad you are enjoying your books.
I'm not sure if I've heard Gulf Coast Highway - I'll have to look it up on youtube. I do like Emmylou Harris.
I haven't watched too much on Netflix now. Tonight American Idol started, so I watched that.

Kate - I guess DH's dad's cart is "road ready", but ours isn't. And it's about 12 miles from our house over there. So we had to have the trailer.
Your dinner by the harbor sounds like it will be very nice - once your weather starts warming up! It sounds a bit like when we go over to South Padre Island - many of the restaurants are so close to the ocean. I love it.
Oh, boy, your getting your fair share of snow, too! I'll share some pictures my DS sent me of their snow with Dakota outside.

Dakota is actually standing in their front yard next to the driveway!

This is the big pile of snow in front of their 3rd garage stall! They don't use that one. I love how she has one leg tucked under the other! She's such a "poser" for pictures.

This is her snow fort she made!

Close up of her in her little fort! 2 years ago, I helped her make one of these.

Tomorrow afternoon I plan on going to Zumba!

And our cold front has definitely come in down here. It's 53 with a sharp North wind. But we only have this for a couple of days.

Have a wonderful Monday!

Mema - I'm glad you got to sleep in! You certainly deserved that after all the work you've been doing.
I'm glad you were able to get the golf carts moved. And it's great that you were able to clear out the small room in the garage. I'm glad it wasn't a huge job.
How nice that you'll be joining friends for that noon dinner today - I hope it's a good one!
It sounds wonderful that you may be able to turn the keys in tomorrow. Was there furniture that was moved out? I forget if you've mentioned anything about that.
I'm very sorry there will be a delay in getting the death certificate.
I'm glad your throat is feeling better!
I'm sorry you may stay in TX longer than you had hoped.
It's great that your sponsor finished her trip so well! And I'm glad you heard from your DS. I finally got to talk to mine yesterday for the first time in a few weeks - we had a great chat.

Kate - how wonderful that you will also be having a free dinner! I hope the weather will soon be suitable for that.
I'm sorry you seem to be getting a lot of snow. We are supposed to get some here, but I think only a couple of inches. It was sunny earlier this morning but it's getting cloudy now.

I am enjoying my reading. I have just started a new book, Evening in Paradise by Lucia Berlin, a book of short stories. I read another book of her short stories last year and loved it.
I am listening to one of my favourite CDs, Duets with Emmylou Harris. The song Gulf Coast Highway always brings me to tears, but it's beautiful.
On Netflix I have been watching Father Brown and Blacklist, and last night I watched a lovely movie, Brooklyn.

I hope you will both have wonderful days.

Mema – so great that you got to sleep in so late. Did you move the carts by trailer b/c they can’t go on regular roads?

Enjoy your free lunch today. What a nice prize! My DGS’s Boys and Girls club (where he goes after school) had a Christmas raffle and we won two coupons for dinner at a restaurant down near the harbor. We’re waiting for better weather to go try it out.

Nice that you got to talk w/ both your sponsor and your DS. My DD works one Saturday a month hosting family events for their clients. It’s usually a short day but not always.

Sorry your DS didn’t get to have his meeting. I’ve had some meetings w/ only 2 people, but I think I might be uncomfortable meeting alone w/ a man I didn’t know and opt to go home.

Leslie – how great to have a doctor that does house calls. I don’t think we have any of those.

My DD tells me that if she goes to one of those free standing clinics here, they charge the same fee as an emergency room visit so she might as well go to the hospital if she can’t get an appointment and needs to see someone right away.

Our March is certainly being "lion-ish". They're saying 5-7 inches of heavy wet snow coming in tonight on top of the 3-4 inches we got yesterday.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

My day wasn't quite as busy. I did get to sleep in. Got out of bed about 9:00 am!! DH had arranged for his friend to pick him up in the early afternoon so they could go pick up the flat bed trailer with a ramp that DH rented. They took our old golf cart to the dad's and brought his back to our place. That was a big job done! I went over to the dad's place ahead of them and cleaned out the small storage room in the garage. Was not as bad as I thought it would be. I was done in about an hour but had to wait for DH and his buddy to come. So I just wiped counters off and wiped out the frig.

Tomorrow after church we are meeting 2 couples from our park over at John Knox Village for noon dinner. One of the couples won a free meal for 3 couples and they asked if we wanted to go. Normally you have to be a guest of a resident to eat there and the cost is around $11.00/person. So it was a nice gift the guy won. It was during a golf tournament that was held here. They give out a bunch of prizes. DH and I don't golf ourselves.

After dinner, DH and I will go over to his dad's place since we will be there for the dinner and I think finish up everything. Now it's down to odds and ends. We should be turning in the keys on Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! emoticon Actually this went much smoother than I anticipated from the very beginning.

Then DH got a call from the funeral home this morning. His dad's ashes are ready, but they were also going to order the Death Certificates for him, too. Just makes it easier that way. No other running for us. But they called because I guess the state of TX is going thru some sort of changes in their systems and so the D.C.'s are back logged until the end of this month! I watched a short news story out of Dallas that was saying the same thing. That was very disappointing to hear. DH needs them so he can get some banking stuff done, and he also needs to mail a bunch up to his sister who is the executor of the estate. So all of that is on hold right now.

Leslie - I do like to be busy, but then I need a break every so often to "catch my breath". Hoping things will slow down a bit now.
Our insurance will pay for lab tests, but DH would rather do it this way if possible to help try and keep costs down. Seems that when these same tests are run thru the doctor's office, the cost is much higher. And it was so easy for us to do it that way down here. We don't do that up North - they don't have free-standing labs up there like they do down here.
My throat is feeling a bit better. I did gargle last night and will again tonight.

Kate - DH is talking about possibly being here into May! emoticon I was hoping we'd be able to leave the end of April. But I guess one more year of staying late will not kill me. I guess I was disappointed because my DIL mentioned having Dakota and Ryan's b-day celebration together this year and would probably do it early May. Dakota's b-day is end of March and Ryan's is 3rd week of May. Maybe it will all work out. But I have to be understanding like he was for me last year.
It sure seems like winter up North was delayed this year! You're getting all your snow now when it's so close to spring!

Oh, and I got a call from my sponsor tonight. She's home in Iowa already!! She left at 5:00 am on Friday and was home by 4:00 pm today! She said it was a good trip and she was able to drive further than she anticipated on the first day. So I'm glad she's safe and sound! She said she never made a wrong turn and between her maps and GPS it all worked out.

And I just got a call from DS! I had been thinking of both my sponsor and my DS and received calls from both of them! Had a nice chat with DS - he worked a 12 hour day today. He doesn't usually have to work Saturdays - I think 1/month or something like that. And it's usually a shorter day than during the week. But not today. There were 2 semi's that needed work done on them and it needed to be finished today. Then he was going to a Candlelight meeting. At the place where he goes to his meetings every 1st Saturday of each month they have a 9 pm meeting. But only he and another lady showed up and then she said she was going home. Not sure why no one else showed up.

Have a wonderful Sunday!!

Mema - you always sound so busy, it makes me feel slothful by comparison!
I'm glad you were able to sort out the hymns more easily with the couple who looks ahead as you do.
I'm glad you'll be having the mammogram. I used to be able to call the Ontario Breast Screening program and make my own appointment, but since I've had breast cancer, in 2010 - just DCIS, now they are scheduled for me every March, so I should be having it soon. I'm not sure if I'll have to wait until I see my doctor to get the appointment.
I'm glad you can get the blood draw for $25. I'm so glad I don't have to pay for lab tests.
It's great that your DH got so much done. I hope the mail will start coming to you soon.
Good news about the golf cart too!
I can imagine all the 'stuff' that is coming to your place. It will be good when you can take some of it north with you this spring.
How is your throat now? I hope the gargles are helping.
Most of the time I feel about 50, so I know what you mean.
March definitely came in like a lamb here, so I'm a little worried about how the end of the month will be.
I'm sorry you had to miss out on the Zumba.

Kate - I'm with your friend in her 70s who likes to visit the 'old folks'! Haha.
I usually get an appointment with my doctor in about 10 days. She has a LOT of patients, and I think most of us are seniors. She also does house calls for some patients one or two afternoons/week. When I got the appointment, I was told to go to the hospital if I got worse while waiting. Unfortunately, we really don't have walk-in clinics here. There is only one clinic in town, with one doctor, and he doesn't want to see anyone who has their own doctor.
We are also getting snow today, but I don't think it will be a lot.

I hope you both have good days. I will be catching up with emails, and reading of course!

Mema – nice that you got all the hymns picked out and can relax all summer long. When do you plan on heading back north?

I always have to ask my Dr. to put in a request for any test like mammogram.

Nice that your DH got so much done on his dad’s place. It will be good to have that finished. I’m going to have to start doing a “purge” of stuff here over the next decade so my children don’t have to deal w/ as much stuff as we have now. Of course if we ever move to a smaller place, we’ll have to do it then.

Leslie – “old is 10 yrs older than I am” LOL. I have a friend who is well into her 70’s and likes to go and visit the “old folks” at our church.

That is a long wait for your doctor appointment. We need to wait that long for something like a physical but for a sick visit it’s usually the next day.

We have a small snow storm that will be dropping snow all day. Then there is supposed to be a bigger one coming on Sunday night. If it lives up to the forecast, it may be the biggest storm of the season.

We have hymns picked out now thru November so we don't need to meet again anymore this winter/spring. We did the months of July/Aug/Sept/Oct/Nov. It was a good meeting. Although, one of the couples that is part of our group works ahead like I do and so between us we go with some of the hymns they've picked and some I've picked. It does make the meeting go much faster when there are some of us who have hymns in mind before the meeting.

Then I had my appt. with my doctor. She is one of the best doctors I have ever had! And for down here, I was in and out in about 45 minutes!! That's almost a record! But I only needed new prescription refills and I had to get orders for my mammogram that's coming up. Down here you just can't schedule that w/out having orders from your doctor. Not sure why. When I used to get them up North, I would just call the place and schedule it myself. And the dr. told me that the stand alone ER's that we have down here do a "wellness" blood draw for cash - usually about $25.00. So that's good to know. I will probably go and do that before we leave here.

DH went and worked over at his dad's place and really got a lot done! I was pleasantly surprised. He's thinking we'll be done by Monday and be able to turn in the keys and garage door opener. He will have to keep the mailbox keys for awhile. He put in a change of address a few days ago, but it takes awhile before that all gets done completely. We are exchanging his dad's golf cart for our golf cart and John Knox Village is going to buy our old golf cart! Ours is very old, but in good shape and runs fine. His dad's needs 2 (out of 6) batteries and a new tire. That will cost about $300.00, but it is newer than ours. He's going to rent a trailer and he and a neighbor will bring our cart to his dad's and then bring his dad's to our house sometime this weekend, I think.

Our house is slowly filling up with "stuff"! It's just a lot of little odds and ends things that you don't really want to give away or throw away, but it all adds up. And then there are the wall pictures that do need to go back up North. DH's kids gave their grandma and grandpa a really nice wood plaque engraved with "memories" they shared at the grandma and grandpa's cabin. And then DH's sister gave her mom and dad a large wooded clock in the shape of Texas. She doesn't want that back, but we're going to take it for our cabin up North. So all those things start taking up a lot of space. And papers, and papers, and papers!!! At least it's his turn to find places for all of his stuff that he's keeping. emoticon

Not sure if we're going back over tomorrow or not. I may go myself. There is the small storage room off the garage that DH forgot about. It has the chest freezer in there and then there are about 3 or 4 shelves. Luckily, they are not jammed packed with stuff. I told DH I could clean that myself.

Leslie - my dr. did give me a prescription for my throat and said if I needed it, go ahead and fill it. But try salt water gargles and/or hot tea and see if it goes away on it's own. I had her look at it and she said it was red back there. At least I have an Rx if I need it.
I was talking with someone recently and told them in my mind I feel like I'm about 35 or 40! I don't "feel" 58 - although some days my body feels like that if I've done too much! LOL
I saw on the news that my DS was getting more snow today, so March is coming in like a Lion up there. Hopefully it will go out like a Lamb.

Kate - Hope you had a good strength training session. We didn't have our Zumba on Wednesday. The regular Zumba leader was having company and the other lady wasn't feeling well. I do miss that when I can't go. Last week I missed both days!
I'm glad your DH is in a position as far as retiring that he can really decide for himself. Sometimes that makes going to work a lot easier - knowing you can be done when you want.

Happy March! emoticon

Mema - I'm glad you took a day off yesterday! You have been working very hard. It sounds as if you'll be busy today too. I hope your sore throat is gone. If not, it's good you'll be seeing your doctor.
Your temperatures are really fluctuating! It may go up to about 30 here today, but it was still very cold this morning.

Kate - I read that someone said something like 'old is at least 10 years older than I am'. I'm 75 and don't feel old at all except for some physical limitations.
I'm glad your DH is OK with whatever happens re: his job.
I was also always the navigator whenever I was a passenger. I loved it. I would like to know what lane to be in! I hate knowing there is an exit I need, and being in the wrong lane to take that exit, or being only barely able to cross 2 or 3 lanes of traffic in time.

Happy March to you both! I really hope our weather will be a lot better this month than it was in February. So far, no storms are predicted for the next few days.
I called for an appointment with my doctor, and can't get in until March 27th! She must be taking a couple of weeks off this month; I've never had to wait that long before.
I've also ordered a few more groceries today.
And of course I'll be reading this afternoon.

Enjoy the day!

Good Morning,

Welcome to a new month.

Leslie – in my mind 70 sounds old. But then I realize I’m going to be there in just a few short years and I don’t feel old.

My DH is 67 so he could retire anytime he wants. The company he works for was bought out last year and they’re still doing the “merging”. He’s not sure what he’ll end up doing there or even if he’ll still have a job. So for now, he’s in a wait and see mode. If he likes where he ends up, he’ll continue working. If he stops enjoying the work, he’ll retire. And if they let him go, it’s all OK.

Mema – I like maps, too. I was always the navigator when I traveled w/ my parents. But I do like having the GPS tell me the turns. And I like it when it tells me what lane to be in on the highway before a turnoff.

I’m glad you were able to take a day off from the clearing out.

Our weather is in one of those up and down modes, too, with storms every few days.

I'm headed to the gym this morning to do my strength training. I skipped yoga class yesterday b/c I didn't want to go out in the snow. Such a wimp.
