Long day - left here at 10:45 am and got home about 8:15 pm! DH had 2 appts. The stitches removal and then get his hearing aids adjusted. Then we went to Walmart, Aldi's and Dollar Tree.

Tomorrow is my meeting and that's all for now. The stitches, all 17 of them came out just fine. The NP took them out, but then the surgeon popped his head in and chatted for a few minutes. That was nice. And DH wanted to thank him anyway, so it worked out.

It was warm and sunny all day with temps in the upper 80's. But tomorrow will only get to the mid-60's and we're supposed to get some t-storms in the morning hours.

Kate - How did your eye appt. go today? Is it common for lenses to collect debris like that?

Leslie - hope all is well.

Enjoy your Wednesday, everyone!

Leslie - have a nice time reading. Hope your weather is cooler.

Mema Ė hope all goes well w/ the stitch removal.

I had cataract surgery years ago but one of the lenses has collected a bunch of debris on the surface so that eye is very blurry. What my optometrist said is that they use lasers to blast away the debris. The appt. today is just to meet w/ the specialist who put the lenses in and have him evaluate the eye.

I need to be out the door to catch a train in less than half an hour, so I'd better be closing up and getting dressed.

I was able to help out at church today. I cut all the celery! They are going to serve a cold ham pasta salad, fruit, buns and dessert tomorrow evening. Unfortunately I won't be here to help out. DH and I will be going to the Twin Cities so he can get his stitches out. I'm sure he's looking forward to that and when he can actually take a full shower!

I slept so good last night. I think I went to bed about 11:30 and didn't wake up until 7 am!!

Kate - What is the procedure that you're getting on your eyes? There are times when public transportation just makes sense!
How nice that your DD and DGS will be going with you on your trip. And the place you've booked sounds perfect. Especially when you have a youngster who needs to go to bed before adults. And then having a place where you can make your own meals if you choose is a nice option.

Leslie - I hope you are enjoying cooler weather and getting in a lot of reading. DH and I watched the movie The Shape of Water. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but it was rather fascinating - but it's 2 hours long.

Have a great day!

Leslie Ė Those were the matinee prices!

How nice of you to rescue the spider. I will do that if itís easy to catch. If one tries too hard to escape, Iíll end up squashing it. My DS is terrified of spiders. His new home has a partial basement and partial crawl space under it and there are a lot of spiders there. He was asking me how to get rid of them Ė although he did say that he recognizes that they eat other bugs so theyíre not a bad thing to have. Thatís a real sign of maturity coming from him.

Mema Ė Iím glad the birthday party worked out so well and the weather cooperated. Cupcakes before lunch sounds so decadent. LOL.

Boston is an expensive place to live. Itís hard for young people like my DD who earns barely enough to live on. Over half her income goes toward rent.

We had a quiet weekend. It cooled down enough that I was able to open up the windows and have some fresh air over night. Wonderful! I do hate living in air conditioning 24/7.

On Tuesday I have my early morning appt. w/ the eye doctor down in Boston. I have to go buy some commuter train tickets today. Itís much easier to ride than to try to drive down there in rush hour. I hope I donít have to wait as long for the actual procedure as I did for this appt. It will be nice to be able to see clearly with both eyes.

We have plans to visit my MIL near the end of August. Iíve got a Air BnB about 15 minutes away from her home. Itís 4 bedrooms and 2 baths for about the same price as 2 hotel rooms. Nice that DS, DD and DGS will all be able to have their own rooms, although I expect DD and DGS will share the room w/ twin beds. And it will be nice to have a place to make breakfasts, and hang out in the evenings after DGS goes to bed.

Whew!!! What a busy weekend! With 8 grand kids both Sat/Sun and then all 10 on Sunday it was a mad house! I've attached a few pictures. The picture with the grand kids and DH, one of them is missing because he was napping. And DH turned 70 today, but as he likes to call it, he was turning 60/10! LOL And Dakota is standing next to grandpa.
The last picture was of Finlee (DH's son's little girl) found that grandpa could give fun rides on his 'rollator"! But was wondering why he was going so slow! LOL

We swam, played tag, lawn jarts, cards, dice games, had our cook-out and today had our cupcakes BEFORE lunch! Everyone enjoyed that. That was because DH's youngest daughter was planning on leaving at noon - she has a 14 month old and wanted her to nap in the car on the way home. After the cupcakes a bunch of us went swimming and then ate lunch around 2 pm. By then everyone was hungry.

But boy oh boy having all the kids around at once really wears you out. And now I'm doing laundry - sheets and beach towels!

Leslie - Our weather today was perfect! Yesterday we thought we might have to cancel the cook-out because about 4 pm, we had one heck of a storm - lightning, thunder and windy. But by 5 pm or a little after, the sun came out, everything dried up and we had a great night.
You are a better person than me when it comes to spiders. I'm not so sure I would have "rescued" it. I'm not a fan of those at all.
The book you were reading so much of sounds interesting. You seem to have quite a wide span of interests when it comes to reading.

Kate - wow, that is a lot of $$ for 2 people and one slushee. My DH worked for Gillette (now Proctor and Gamble) and their headquarters was in Boston and he always liked that because all the employees in MN got "East coast" wages. Your cost of living was higher than MN.
North Carolina always sounded like a neat place to visit. The furthest East I've been was in Pittsburgh. An old boyfriend lived outside of there, but I was there for a wedding and really didn't stay long enough to see a whole lot. But I've also wanted to visit Maine or Vermont.

Well, I'd better get back to my laundry. Tomorrow I'm going to church to help cook and set up for a community dinner. There are several churches in surrounding communities that all take turns doing this. I won't be there on Tuesday, the actual day of the dinner because DH and I will be in the Twin Cities so he can get his stitches out.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Kate - wow, that was an expensive movie date for you and DGS!! My friend often goes to movies on Tuesdays when the ticket prices are lower, and sometimes they also have matinees. I would be interested in going to one of those if there's a movie that interests me. My friend goes with 2 other women, but she has said I'm welcome to join them. The evening shows are too late for me.

I'm very glad to hear that your DH will be home for a few months now!

It's still not too hot here, so I'm glad of that.

I rescued a large black spider from my bathtub this morning, and put it out on my balcony. I hope it's happy now.

When will your DS find out more from the doctor? I hope all will be well! When we get test results online here, it lets us know if anything is 'high' or 'low', but of course, I usually do know what the doctor is looking for, and having been a nurse is a definite advantage.

Mema - I hope you're having a great time with family!

Have a wonderful day.

Leslie Ė sounds so nice to have weather in the 70ís.

Weíre about that right now so I opened up the windows to air the house out. Itís already humid and the temperature will be going up so Iíll probably switch back to A/C when I come back from church before noon.

DH will be home now until a couple of trips in October and November. Unless something unexpected comes up. Weíre all going down to North Carolina for a few days in August to visit my MIL.

DS tends to avoid things he doesnít understand so heís not asking the doctor questions or trying to understand whatís up. He can see the test numbers on line, he just doesn't know what they mean or why the doctor is concerned. I guess heíll know more after the ultrasound results are read.

I donít go to the movies very often either. Itís so much cheaper to just watch them on the TV when they are available on line. One child ticket, one senior ticket and one Icee slush drink for DGS - $26.00. Whew!

Sorry for not posting for a couple of days - I've had good intentions, but the time has just flown by. I wasn't even doing anything unusual.

Kate - I'm very happy your DH is home! I hope he'll be home for a while now.
You've had a busy week!
Have you heard any more about your DS's 'numbers' or u/s? I would also want to know what was going on! Here, we can go to the lab's website and see our test results for ourselves.
I'm glad you had a good day with your DGS yesterday. I'm really not a mini-golf fan, but last time my family visited here, I took them to a big park, which has mini-golf, and my grandsons played a game - I watched.
I'm glad the movie was cute; I guess your DGS must have really enjoyed it. It's been a very long time since I've seen a movie in a theatre! I can't even remember the last one I saw.

Mema - I know you'll be busy today with all your visitors! I hope you all have a wonderful time, especially your DH.
How was your pizza buffet lunch? That sounds great!
I LOVE hot dogs roasted on the fire - enjoy!!

We have been getting rain storms that haven't lasted long, and it's cooler. Today's high will only be about 70.
I have been reading a wonderful book of short stories called A Manual for Cleaning Women by Lucia Berlin. I usually read 3 or 4 books at a time, but for the past couple of days, I've only been reading that one. I should finish it this weekend, and then I'll need to decide what to read next.
My family is having a wonderful time in Australia! They have posted some photos on FB which I am enjoying!

I hope you both have great days!

I had a fun time w/ DGS yesterday. The mini-golf was fun. It was a course weíd never been to before. Not really fancy but interesting enough for a quick game. We went early to avoid the worst of the heat and then after lunch we saw "Hotel Transylvania 3". It was cute and just about the right level for early elementary age. Lots of music, too.

I did get out in the garden after the golf. I picked 8 pickling cucumbers. There are tons of tomatoes just starting to lighten up but not yet pink. I made some refrigerator pickles. DGS had been asking if I could make pickles w/ all the cukes.

Maybe itís a New England thing. All the meetings start and end on time. Except for an occasional business meeting that might run over time.

Too bad they wouldnít take the saw. It seems like the cost of a new safety cover would be worth it to take the saw.

Hope your DHís birthday bash is marvelous.

Kate - Glad to hear your DH is at home. You can now resume your coffee in bed again! Very nice.
My meetings up here usually end close to or right on the hour mark. But in TX, they seem to run late (unless I'm running the meeting! ;) I like to keep them on time. Mainly because we have several people who come on their lunch hour. And I think for us AA'ers, we need that discipline of staying on time.
How was the mini golfing and lunch? Oh, and the movie, did DGS enjoy it?
Were you able to get out in your garden? The mosquitoes are quite fierce up here now, too as we have had our share of rain.
I must be like you when it comes to doctors. I want to know exactly what they're doing and why they are doing it. I can't imagine not knowing what the doctor is looking for if he/she is requesting an ultrasound! My first question would be, Why?

Leslie - I hope you had a good day!

So DH and I went into Spooner today. He was going to drop off this old table saw, but it didn't have a safety cover over the blade, so they wouldn't take it. I guess he'll have to take it to the dump and pay to have them take it. Then we went to the pizza place. It was good. They had a great salad bar, too!

After we got home, I finished up a few things that I didn't get done yesterday and then DH and I had a campfire. It was just a bit cool outside, so it was nice. Tomorrow evening we'll roast hot dogs over the fire for dinner with the kids and grand kids and celebrate DH's b-day a day early. And the temp should be about the same tomorrow as it was tonight, so it should be another good day.

I may not get a chance to write tomorrow with everyone here, so just giving a heads-up if you don't see a posting from me.

Enjoy your weekend!!

Ahh! DH is home. His plane was an hour late but heís here.

Mema Ė thatís a nice size meeting. My Wed. meeting is usually about that size but it was a bit smaller this week. We never end early at meetings. Itís just not done around here.

Itís always nice to just miss a rain shower when youíre shopping. How great that all of the kids and grandkids will be there for your DHís birthday.

Today DD is dropping off DGS and bringing his kitten for me to take to the vet for her spay. Then all 3 of us will go out mini golfing. After lunch, Iíll take DGS to the movies so that DH can get caught up on some work. I bought tickets for ďHotel Transylvania 3Ē about a family of vampires and other monsters. Iíve watched the earlier 2 movies w/ DGS and theyíre cute with a nice message of tolerance and love.

I need to be out in my garden harvesting sometime today since weíve had all that rain the last 3-4 days. But I need to coat myself in mosquito spray first. The beasties are blood thirsty out there. They ate me alive while I was pulling out the pea plants last week.

They were doing blood tests on DS b/c of his gout and the medicine heís taking for that. When I asked him what numbers were off in his blood work he said he wasnít sure but thought there was something about his bad cholesterol. And they did the ultrasound on his Ďstomachí but he didnít know what they were looking at or why. I donít understand that level of ignorance. I always wanted to know all the details from doctors.

Leslie - hope you're having a good time reading. Are you still hot and humid?

Kate - at my meeting yesterday we had 20 people! Every chair around the tables was filled. It was great. And everyone had a chance to share and we still got out of there just a few minutes after the hour was up!
My shopping went well. Although it was chilly and cloudy when I left our place and just 60 miles south it was sunny and warm and humid. When I returned home about 6 pm, it had rained most of the day here and was still cool. Amazing how just a relatively short distance away the weather is completely different. Today was rainy off and on and cool. I don't think we ever got out of the upper 60's. I loved it!!
My last stop was Walmart yesterday and I just made it to my car and put all of my things away and it started raining.
I hope your DS gets answers to what the number is the dr. is looking at and what it is they are looking for. That is scary for a mom!
Were you able to find a movie for you and your DGS? I love mini-golf! Haven't done it in quite awhile!

Leslie - This pilates video seems like it will be a good workout. At least one that will challenge me for a bit. I do need to get myself a good yoga mat, though. I have been just using a towel on my floor and it's not quite enough. I have one in TX, but that doesn't help me up here. I did find one at Amazon that I may order. I have a couple of other things to order so I'll get free shipping.
Did you get a lot of reading done yesterday?

I got most of my house cleaned today. I'm waiting to do the floors as we had the rain off and on today and DH was in and out so I didn't want to get them done and then have him track dirt in. We don't take our shoes off up here - that was one thing DH didn't want to have to do or have the kids and grand kids have to take their shoes off. We have wood laminate and ceramic tile, so clean up is easy enough. He said "this is the cabin". Works for me!

Tomorrow DH and I are going into Spooner (one of the smaller closer towns - 30 miles) for a pizza buffet lunch and he's dropping off an older table saw that he no longer uses (he has a newer one) at ReStore. It's a thrift-type store affiliated with Habitat for Humanity. They don't take clothing, but anything usable for housing - building materials, furniture, dishes, etc. He wants to get out of the house! LOL

I also talked with my DS tonight and he and his 2 kids are going to drive up on Sunday for the day - so then we'll have ALL of the kids and grand kids here! It will be fun! DS's wife is volunteering at the state prison making lunches or something like that. She works for the DOC, but that is close to their house. The prison is about an hour and a half away. So since she's going to be doing that all day, DS said he would drive up.

Hope you all enjoy your Friday!!

This whole week has been incredibly humid here w/ thunderstorms or down pours at random times. I ran into the grocery store yesterday to return one item and pick up 2 more. It was sunny when I went in and sunny when I came out but the ground was drenched. There had been some hard rain in those few minutes. DH is flying home this afternoon so Iím hoping the storms donít delay him too much. His flight out to Nashville last Sunday was delayed for several hours.

DS stayed for dinner when he picked up the dogs last night. DD had come and picked up DGS early so it was just the 2 of us. It was good to have a chance to chat. He told me some of his ďnumbersĒ donít look right so the doctor sent him for an ultra sound. And thatís all he knew! Not what the number was or what they were looking at! Whatís a mom to do about that? Wait and try not to worry.

Today DGS will be in camp and the dogs wonít be here so itís my free day to get the house back in order. I told DD that I would go out and do DGS's back to school shopping, too. The list is not just paper and pencils, it's boxes of tissues and wipes and other things for the class room. I'll go to Target for all that stuff and pick up some lunch stuff for DH as well since he'll be home for lunch tomorrow.

Fridays we've been keeping DGS with us and doing special trips. I figured that DH will probably have some work to do since he's been out of the office for 2 weeks so I'll do something by myself w/ DGS. Perhaps a movie if I can find an appropriate one locally. Surprising how few good kids movies there are. And if the weather is decent we might go mini - golfing in the morning.

Mema - I hope today's shopping trip goes well, and you get everything you need for the weekend.
It will be nice for you to have DH's son do the rest of the mowing.
I'm glad you liked the Pilates you found. I am just doing the exercises we do in the classes, and they aren't really enough, but they do help me to stay limber, which is a good part of what I need. I do need to do more work on my core too. I never used to have a 'belly' but do now.
I agree that time goes by a lot faster as we get older!
I'm sorry you didn't receive gifts for having the first baby of the year, but I'm sure it was exciting to be in the paper at least.

Kate - I'm sorry you were awake so early. I don't like it when that happens to me. I'm glad your DH will be home tomorrow, and getting your coffee again. You are very lucky!
I'm glad you had a relaxing day yesterday. How is today?
We really needed the rain badly too. Now there's more rain in the forecast for tomorrow, and Friday's high temp will only be in the 60s!

I've been to the exercise class this morning, but reading is the only other plan I have for the day.

Have a great day!

UGH! I was wide awake before 4AM and couldnít get back to sleep. Iíll be tired by the end of the day for sure.

Iím downstairs now to start the coffee pot. It normally brews at 5:30 but Iíve already waited an hour and Iím ready for my coffee now. DH will be home tomorrow night so just one more day of getting my own coffee. I'm so spoiled. LOL

Yesterday my DD called in the morning to say she had been sick all night so she was staying home w/ DGS. No trips to camp to drop off and pick up. And no dinner to make. I just had left overs for my dinner. Made a relaxing day.

Mema - I have a meeting this morning, too. Hope yours is good and you have a fun time shopping. Pilates is one of the forms of exercise that I was never able to 'get into'. I find it uncomfortable and boring. But I know a lot of people who love it.

Leslie - time does seem to go more quickly as we get older. We often have a fire ban during the summer months. The rain we're having this week is really welcome.

I'm going on another shopping venture tomorrow. I have my meeting, which is just about 1/2 way to the "bigger" city, so when I'm finished with my meeting, I'll head into town. Found out we needed some extra things for when all DH's kids are here this weekend. I don't mind going in at all.

I did get most of the lawn mowed today. It was not as hard to push as I thought it might be. DH's son can do the parts I didn't get done - those parts are on slopes.

I found a beginner's Pilates you tube video (20 minutes) that I tried today. I liked it, so will try to do that often. It really works your core and I need that!

Leslie - If I happen to get on my phone and start playing one of my games, the time flies by, and I have found that happens if I'm reading as well. And time does go by a lot faster now than it used to - must be that I'm older! LOL
We always experience a fire ban here every spring. And if we don't get the rain, it can last awhile. We also have to get a burn permit every year, as well, so we can have our campfires in our fire pit. We used to have DNR rangers in towers to spot fires, but they stopped that for some reason (maybe $$) so now we have a DNR plane that will fly over and report wherever he sees smoke. Even with campfires I guess they report. But it's on their computer system those who have burn permits. And of course they mainly are looking for any out of control fire.
It was kind of exciting to have the first baby born of that town. I guess in larger cities, the mother receives a lot of "goodies" from companies. But the town my DS was born in was very small so we didn't get anything - but we did get our picture in the paper, so that was pretty cool!

Kate - I hope you had a good day. Did you have your DS's dogs today?

Enjoy your Wednesday, ladies!!

I'm sorry for not posting yesterday. Sometimes I just don't know where the time goes!

Mema - I love the shoes and jewelry!! They do go together very well.
It was my library volunteer who went to Pittsburgh - I imagine it would take most of the day to drive there from here. We are about 3 hours NW of Toronto. Yes, that shooting event was awful! I used to live in Toronto, and enjoyed visiting it with my son last month, but I'm quite glad I live here now.
We did get a day of rain, and the fire ban for here has been lifted.
You will certainly have a crowd visiting for your DH's birthday!
That must have been very exciting to have had the first baby of the year when your DS was born!

Kate - I hope your DGS will be approved for the 504 plan.
I'm sure it would be hard for the puppy to wait all day to go out!
You are certainly not alone, with all that activity going on!

I have been reading as much as I can. I should be finished with one book today, and then I have 4 more library books to choose from!

It's extremely humid here now. I hope we'll get drier air soon.

Have a great day!

Mema - I know theyíre continuing to improve the adjustable lens implants, so you may get your wish when you do need cataract surgery. And even if you get the fixed focal length, theyíll pick a correction so youíre not ďblind as a batĒ.

I do like finding old pictures and reminiscing. Itís fun to see the old styles, etc.

Leslie Ė hope you had a nice day of reading.

Kate - oh, darn! And here I thought I was going to be able to ditch my glasses. LOL Oh, well. Thanks for letting me know. At least now I won't get my hopes up!
I guess you won't be so "all alone". It sounds like you will have a very busy week! You will have a lot of coming and going.

My day was spend ironing and going through some under bed storage bins. It is a lot of old stuff, but I found some pictures that I hadn't seen in quite awhile. A couple from when I was in High School. Pictures would be taken all thru the year but not all made it into the yearbook. At the end of the school year, you could go thru the pictures and if there was any of yourself, you could take them. I had 2 - they were fun to see. One was of me in marching band. Then I found the small town local newspaper that I was in when my DS was born. His b-day is Jan. 1 and we lived in Carol Stream, IL and he was the first baby born of that year in that town. So we got our picture in their local newspaper.

I love looking at old things like that. Especially if I haven't seen them in a long time.

Tomorrow I will do some mowing. DH had to order a new belt for the self-propelling part of the mower, but I can still use the mower before we get the belt. I just won't do the front where our yard slopes. Since his kids are coming this weekend, I'll get one of them to do the rest of the yard. The back yard is getting quite long. The mower broke before DH had his back surgery so it's been awhile since the yard was cut. Although it's not as long as you would think for going on about 3 weeks or so.

Leslie - I hope you had a good day and got in some reading. I heard what happened in Toronto - how horrible. You're pretty close aren't you?

I hope you all have a great day!

Mema Ė what a lovely color shoes and the jewelry matches so well.

You will have a houseful next weekend. Itís so nice that all your DHís kids and grandkids can come and celebrate.

Sorry to burst your bubble but cataract surgery isnít a cure all. And unless your surgeon uses the new adjustable lens, that means you have to choose whether you want to be near sighted or far sighted and you still need glasses for the other. When I got mine done, the surgeon didnít think the adjustable lenses were advanced enough to use so I have the regular fixed focal length that are usually used.

Most people choose to have good distance vision and use reading glasses. I chose to be nearsighted b/c I love to read in bed w/o glasses. I can read just fine w/o my glasses. I need them for distance and for mid-distance like the computer. I got bifocals that have those two prescriptions Ė for distance and for what I call ďarmís length distanceĒ so I can see what Iím cutting or cooking in the kitchen.

Mostly I use one contact lens that gives me distance vision in my left eye and no lens on the other eye so I have reading vision in my right eye. That works pretty well overall.

Leslie Ė how nice for your DS and his family. I love the way you can keep track of people on FB now.

Yes, if DGS is approved for a 504 plan, they would supply the keyboard. DSís puppy is about 6 -7 months. She doesnít need to eat in the middle of the day any longer but still has difficulty waiting all day to go outside.

Yesterday I dropped DH off at the airport after church. The thunderstorms were not as bad as predicted but he still had a flight delay b/c the plane was late arriving. Must have been worse storms where it was coming from.

Iím home alone for another week. Although Iíll not really be alone w/ DGS here and DSís 3 dogs. Oh, and both DD and DS coming by morning and evening for drop offs and pick-ups. I had to make my own coffee this morning and after I get up, Iíll have to do all DHís usual chores as well as my own.

Went to church this morning and then came home and did laundry. Plus I cleaned out some stuff in my closet to give to Goodwill - 6 purses, 8 pairs of shoes, plus some other odds and ends.

It is DH's b-day next Sunday and so his kids will be up for the weekend. We'll have one of the daughters, her partner and their 2 kids stay with us in the cabin. The oldest boy and his family of 5 kids stay out in our "bunkhouse". It's like a 3rd stall of our garage, but separated by a wall. And the youngest daughter and her family stay just down the road from us at her aunt's house. (DH's ex-wife's sisters cabin). I've got the rest of the house to clean but I will do that later this week. We will have a house full that's for sure!

Leslie - Oh, and my glasses are also progressive bifocals - so that is a great price! And I need my glasses for everything! I'm blind as a bat w/out my glasses. Some days I think I can't wait to have cataract surgery and they put that lens in your eye and most people no longer need their glasses!! LOL
Wow - 72nd floor!! That is high. I wouldn't mind it as long as it's in a hotel. I bet the view is spectacular!
How far of a drive is it for your housekeeper to go to Pittsburgh? I did a youtube search on John Prine and listened to the song you said you loved. It is a great song. He's very good.
When I lived in Milwaukee, we lived not far from a Frank Lloyd Wright building. I think it was a church, if I'm not mistaken, but I could be wrong. I do know it was FLW.
Did you get the rain you wanted? We had a pretty nice day here.

Kate - How nice for your DH to bring you coffee! I'm not a coffee drinker, but if my DH would do that, I think I'd turn into one! LOL
Did you DH get off on time today?
Thanks for explaining the 504 plan. I hope that works out for him.
And that is very interesting what your DH does. I guess I've never thought about things like that (toilets, copy paper). That really does make a difference for the consumer!

I've attached pictures of the shoes and jewelry I bought for my mom's memorial service.

Hope you have a marvelous Monday!!

Mema - I can certainly understand your being tired Friday - shopping wears me out!
I'm very glad your DH s improving rapidly now!
I also love raspberries, and blackberries too.
That's a great price for a pair of glasses! I think the last pair of bifocals I bought were in the neighbourhood of $500! However, the last time I got glasses, I got two separate pairs - one for distance, and one for close-up, but I actually hardly ever use either pair. I do wear the distance pair when I'm out because they get dark in the sun, and I don't have to carry extra sunglasses. But I don't need glasses for reading, or being on the computer. I only use the close-up glasses for reading ingredients on vitamin labels, and looking up phone numbers in the white pages. I can thread needles with no glasses...
Yes my DGSs are with my DS and DIL - they have already posted some photos from their room on the 72nd floor!! It's a great view, but I would really not want to be up that high myself!

Kate - how lovely to have coffee brought to you in the morning! My dad used to do that for my mum too - then she would get up and cook a big breakfast.
Your DH is certainly getting around! That sounds like very important work.
Would the 504 plan provide your DGS with a keyboard should he need it in the future?
I'm glad your DS has a dog walker to take the dogs out in the middle of the day. How old is the puppy now? I'm sure the daycare would be expensive to take all the dogs!
I think my DS and family will be doing some sort of diving at the reef. I'm sure it would be beautiful!
I hope your DH's flight will be on time today. How long will he be gone this time?

My library volunteer and her DH went to Pittsburgh this weekend, to go to a John Prine concert on Friday night, and to a Frank Lloyd Wright house on Saturday. I adore John Prine, and have gone to YouTube to listen to his song The Speed of the Sound of Loneliness, which I love! She is always doing interesting things!!

It is cloudy today, and the street is getting wet, so I guess we're getting some of the rain we need. I hope we get enough this time!

Have a wonderful day!

Oh, it was so nice to have my coffee brought up to me this morning. That is one of the little things I miss when DH is traveling. Today is going to be wet and stormy. I hope DHís flight isnít delayed by the weather.

Leslie Ė that sounds like a wonderful trip. Will they snorkel or dive at the reef? I remember snorkeling in Hawaii and it was fantastic.

DH was in Montreal last week and will be in Nashville TN this week.

DS has been taking the puppy to a regular doggie daycare where she can play w/ other dogs. He was taking them all on a few occasions but itís too expensive to do every day. He has a Ďdog walkerí who will come to the house in the middle of the day and let the other dogs out into the yard to bounce around and do their business.

Mema Ė glad things are going well w/ your DH and that your shopping trip was successful. Raspberries are my favorite fruit. Weíre just starting to get them from our farm share.

Nice you can get glasses at such a good price. We have eye insurance but even w/ that mine cost more than $72.

A 504 plan is a way the school adapts to children w/ disabilities. For DGS it would mean that he would get time w/ an occupational therapist to work on his hand muscles and the way he holds a pencil so it wouldnít cause as much pain from muscle cramping. There might be a limit on how long he has to write and eventually, they might need to provide him with a keyboard for longer writing assignments.

DH is traveling less than he did a few years ago. He used to be gone about 30% of the time. Now itís just 6-8 trips w/ year but they tend to be back to back. Part of what DH does is work with a couple of international standards organizations. Those are trade groups where representatives from different companies get together and agree to follow certain rules so things from different companies have the ability to match up. Almost everything is standardized these days. Thatís why any brand of toilet will fit w/ your plumbing and any brand of paper will fit in the copier. Lack of standards is a pain in the neck Ė like all the different little charger plugs (usb, mini, micro) and any kind of electronics that will plug into your electric sockets in this country but not every other country.

I'm sorry about not posting yesterday. But after shopping for most of the day and then DH wanted to watch a movie together, I was pooped out!

My shopping went well and it was nice to get out of the house. DH is doing really well now. It seems like once you start feeling better it goes quickly. He still has to be careful, that's for sure but I'm not getting up in the middle of the night anymore to give him his pills. emoticon

I've got a bunch of raspberries to pick today. We have some bushes in our yard and quite a few red berries I've been noticing. We also have wild blackberries all up and down our driveway, but those won't be ready until mid-August I think. With the raspberries, I think I will make raspberry pancakes. I did that last year and they were delicious.

I bought myself a new pair of glasses with my casino winnings! I order my glasses online from Zenni Optical because they are so much cheaper than if I go to a place here in town. I have a very strong prescription so that's why my glasses always cost so much - it's the lenses I need. My new glasses were only $72.00! And my last new pair, just a few months ago was about the same. I'll have to see about posting a picture - I'm terrible at selfie's! These frames are a luminescent green plastic - I really like them.

Leslie - well, the reasons you mentioned about your divorce certainly make a lot of sense. I can see why you are finishing it up.
That is a long flight for your DS and family, but what a great trip! How long will they be there? And are your 2 DGS's on the trip as well?
My sister and her husband are on a cruise over in Europe and they flew from the Twin Cities to JFK, but then over to Copenhagen and it was going to be the next day for them, too. I'm not sure I would like that. I think I would be too jet-lagged! LOL

Kate - I agree with what Leslie and the doctor said - since your DGS is so young yet, there's probably a very good chance there will be new testing for him once he's older. And it does seem like there was a bit of good news with the low score. What is a 504 plan? I've never heard of that.
An hour and a half for a 7 mile trip - THAT is a lot of traffic! I don't blame you for being "stern". I think I would have been the same way. One of my DGS's whines a lot and it drives me batty!
Wow - your DH is traveling quite a bit. He doesn't usually go this much does he?
Hope your week doesn't get too busy for you.

Hi Pat - nice to "meet" you. Glad to see you posting! That is a long bus ride! But nice that you can get out for a bit when the weather is nice. Where are you from? My DH and I live in TX, but have a cabin on a lake in Northern WI for the summer months. I was born and raised in St. Paul, MN.

Hope you all have a great day!!

Kate - My goodness, your DH will not be home long this time! Where is he back from, and where is he headed next? I'm glad he was home in time for dinner last night.

I'm sorry you'll have another week of being so busy. What does your DS do with the dogs on the days you don't have them? What will you be doing with your DGS while he's with you on Monday?

I guess my DS and family should be close to their destination after that long flight - it's really hard to imagine being on a plane that long! I'm sure they will have a wonderful time. They are going to a koala sanctuary, and also sailing to the Great Barrier Reef. All their plans really sound great to me! I'll be looking forward to seeing their photos on FB.

I anticipate a quiet weekend, with lots of reading.

I hope everyone has a super Saturday!

Mema - how was the shopping day?

Leslie Ė yes, the geneticist said the same thing Ė maybe there will be more definitive tests by the time heís thinking about a family.

Those do sound like good reasons to get the divorce finalized. Hope your DS and his family have a simply marvelous time in Australia. That is a very long time on the airplane.

DH was home in time for dinner last night. DD arrived almost at the same time as we did from picking him up at the express bus. Today weíll be getting all the clothes washed so I can pack his suitcase tomorrow morning for his next trip. Next week DGS will be here on Monday, too, b/c DD has to be in court w/ one of her clients. Another busy week for me.

Kate - That sounded like quite an ordeal yesterday with the long appointment, and the heavy traffic! I don't blame you at all for getting 'stern' with your DGS - I can't abide whining! I'm sorry his results were unclear. I hope he'll be able to get the OT for his hands. Maybe there will be more tests available before he would be having kids. That would be important to know.
I hope you're having a quieter day today!

Pat - it's good to hear from you! That is a lot of travelling on the bus. I hope there will be good improvement in your leg.

Mema - I'm happy for you that you had an uneventful day yesterday. I hope you enjoy your shopping trip today.

I was also divorced from my first husband, in 1974, and my ex paid for that one.
The benefits of getting a divorce now are that neither of us will be responsible for carrying out any 'last wishes', and neither will be responsible for the other's debts or any legal difficulties. Also, Canada pays a 'death benefit' of about $2500 to a surviving spouse or closest relative. Obviously when I kick the bucket, I would want my son to get that to cover the cost of cremation; and I wouldn't want the benefit if Greg should die first because I would feel obligated to get involved with putting on a funeral.

My son and his family will be leaving later today for their trip to Australia! I spoke to him this morning. They will drive to Montreal, fly from there to Vancouver, then fly from Vancouver to Brisbane on a 14 1/2 hour flight!! It will be Sunday in Australia when they get there.

It's a nice day here, but heating up again, and there may be storms later. I hope we get them since we really need rain!

I hope you're all having great days!

Pat - nice to have you posting. I'm glad you're able to get out although that's a long bus ride.

Leslie - sounds like a day of getting things done. Will there be any benefits to having the divorce? other than peace of mind?

Mema - an uneventful day sounds like just what you needed. You've had a lot going on. Have fun w/ all the shopping today. Hope you find everything you need.

We don't have fun trips planned this week b/c DH is out of town. I think I may plan a movie for next Friday. DH is coming home next Thursday night but he will probably have work to do on Friday after being on the road for 2 weeks. We're going to go canoeing the first Friday in August.

Yesterday was DGSís appt. w/ the genetics counselor. I picked him up from camp at 1PM. Drove down to East Boston to meet up w/ my DD. I got there early enough that I could take him out to the park next door to shoot baskets for 20 min. Then we hit a ton of traffic on route to the medical center and just barely got there on time. I dropped them on the corner so they could go in while I took the car to the parking garage and found a spot.

The appointment was long w/ a thorough history and exam. It ended up mostly good news. Although they did see some joints that were hyper-mobile, his score was not high enough to warrant a diagnosis of EDS. So Ė he either has it and itís very mild or he doesnít have it and is just a flexible kid. Frustrating not to know b/c if he does have it, he can pass it on to his kids. Also, DD wanted him to get some OT at school b/c his hands are affected and he has a hard time writing for very long. Sheís not sure the hyper-mobility diagnosis will be enough to warrant a 504 plan.

The traffic coming home was horrific. A 7 mile trip took us an hour and a half. I even got a bit stern w/ my DGS at the end. He was tired and hungry and complaining and said he just wanted to be out of the car. I told him I wanted to be out of the car just as much as he did. That it was really hard for me to be driving in all that traffic and he was making it harder for me by whining. And after I dropped them off, it was another hour to get home.

Hi all I have been very busy going to PH and learning to use muscle in left leg that I have used for a while. I have to take a bus and then 1 hr and half then back on bus home some day I get home quickly and other day it is quite long. I am also learning to take the fix bus route to some places just to get out while the weather is nice. I am doing all this I am tire very often. That is enough for now. Pat

A rather uneventful day for me today. That was OK. Tomorrow I will go into one of the bigger towns for shopping. It's about 60 miles, but it has Walmart, Walgreens, Aldi's, Dollar Tree, Dollar General - all the stores I need for this trip. Next trip I think I will go to Superior, WI - then maybe I can meet up with my friends from TX.

Leslie - when I got divorced from my first husband, he filed and paid for it. I didn't have to pay for anything - I just needed to show up at the courthouse. We were pretty young and didn't own a home or anything so there wasn't a lot to divide up for us. He paid child support and carried health insurance for our son. I'm sorry you have to pay for yours.
Did you get your phone calls made and did all your deliveries come?

Kate - I'm glad you are pain free. I think toothaches can be some of the worst pain. It seems like it affects your whole being. Glad you have your appointment, even if it is a few weeks away.
Anymore fun trips with your DGS planned?

We had a pretty cloudy day here and it was just comfortable. It's been very nice for sleeping here - our lows have been in the upper 50's at night - I love it!! My bedroom, up on the 2nd floor faces the lake, so I usually get a nice breeze in my window.

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday!!

Mema - I'm glad your DH is apparently having less pain since he's been able to cut back so much on the Percocet! I'm glad he can take the ibuprofen too. I can't take any aspirin or NSAIDS because they all cause excessive bruising. I'm glad you're able to get more sleep now.
It's great that your DH was able to get into the shower! I'm sure that felt wonderful.
Good luck with the yoga!
My husband and I have been separated almost 14 years. For the first 4 years, my income was too low, about $1000/month, to be able to pay for a divorce. When I turned 65, my income went up a bit, but then I wanted a car so badly, that became a priority, and once I got the car, I couldn't save enough money to pay for a divorce. Now I no longer have a car, and have also found a less expensive way to get the divorce, and decided to just get it done. I have called the guy who's helping me with it again today, and am still waiting to hear from him...
Your lavender pumps sound really lovely, and so does your necklace. That's a great idea.

Kate - I'm glad you have no tooth pain! I hope you'll be OK until your appointment.

I am having a day of phone calls and deliveries. I have ordered groceries, and also meds from the pharmacy, and am waiting for calls back from Danny, the paralegal, and Rhonda, my library volunteer. I have 5 books for her to return, and a list of 5 more I'm requesting.
It's another sunny day, but at least there is some rain in the forecast.

Leslie Ė hope the plans for the divorce are moving ahead smoothly. And itís nice that your housekeeper can be flexible and do other things for you if thatís what you really need.

Mema Ė what a lovely idea for all the people to wear something purple. Iím glad your DH is feeling better and able to get into the shower. I know how good that first shower felt after a surgery.

My tooth is pain free now. So I have a temporary crown on the side that had the infection and a temporary filling on the opposite side where I had the root canal. The periodontist canít see me until the 9th of August. The dentist wanted to get his opinion on the infected tooth and deal w/ that one before starting the root canal-ed one.

Leslie - Yes, DH is taking Percocet. He was taking 2 pills every 4 hours and last night and today, he's taking 1 pill every 5 hours or so. He's also taking 800 milligrams of ibuprofen 3x/day - which his doctor prescribed for him several years ago. And he said that has made a difference in his pain as well.
Last night and tonight I get his midnight-1 AM pill ready for him and then I go to bed about 10:30. That way I don't have to get up until about 5:00 AM - that has made it easier.
When I did those extra "jobs" cleaning, I would also have to let something else go. I usually worked in 3 hour shifts for my customers.
Glad you made it to your exercise class. I'm thinking of starting to do Yoga (from youtube) since I can't walk up here and I can't do my "walking" dvd's because of my heel. But I do need to do something!
I remember you mentioning about your divorce before - you haven't been with your husband in a long time, is that correct? If you don't mind me asking, why has it taken so long?

Kate - Wow - what those nurses said about your DD is really awful. But there are people who if they have not experienced something themselves it's hard for them to empathize. I know my sister can be like that.
Is your tooth feeling better now that you've finished the antibiotics? When will you be getting the work done?
We're supposed to get some rain tomorrow and possibly Friday, but it seems like the likelihood keeps going down, which wouldn't be a bad thing. We've had our share of rain. As a matter of fact, the lake is so high that if we get a lot of boats making waves, one of the dock pieces right at shore tends to get moved. And the dock is as high as it goes! Nice that the rain took a "break" for you when you needed to get your DGS!

Today was rather uneventful for me. I didn't go to my meeting. I really didn't want to leave DH by himself yet. I will give him a couple more days. DH is doing better - he even got into his shower to get cleaned up. Up until today, he was giving himself a sponge bath at the kitchen sink. And he hated not being able to get "completely" cleaned.

I think I will go into town on Friday. I desperately need a haircut! I ordered some lavender suede slingback pumps to wear for my mom's Memorial Service! We're going to ask people to wear some sort of purple since it was her favorite color. I love the shoes! And I ordered a collar-type necklace with clear, blue and lavender jewels in it. Those will pair with my black dress. It was fun to get those today!

Hope you enjoy your Thursday!!

Mema - I'm glad you and DH are finally home, but it's good that he stayed that extra day in the hospital. Is he still taking Percocet? That's what I take for my arthritis, scoliosis, and kyphosis. I hope it's working well for your DH. I'm glad he's able to be up a bit with his walker. I'm sorry you have to be up during the night with his meds.
Yes, my housekeeper will run errands for me, but she has to be able to do everything in 2 hours, so when I ask her to go out for me, I tell her to forget mopping the floor. There is a grocery store nearby, and a convenience store right on the corner. I am just going to order groceries again this week, not just for the bananas, but I'd like a lot more fresh fruit, and I also need meat, which I didn't realize when I ordered last week. I usually only order every 2 weeks, so this is unusual.
I'm sorry you have so many mosquitos!! We still need rain badly.

Kate - I'm sorry you couldn't have gone for a walk during that long wait, but I understand the problem.
You're right that a lot of doctors don't understand chronic pain. That was an awful thing for the nurse to say in any language!
I'm glad you got rain, but the thunder wasn't severe. Where are the dogs on the days they're not with you?

I've been to the exercise class this morning, and I'm waiting to hear from the guy who's helping me with my divorce.

I hope everyone is having good days!

Leslie Ė if I had known how long it was going to be, I would have gone walking. But DD either didnít know or didnít tell me. And she left me her purse to ďwatchĒ so if we had gone out, she wouldnít have been able to call us when she was finished. Just some lack of foreknowledge and planning.

Mema Ė Iím glad youíre home and your DH is recovering. Iím so accustomed to having hospitals within easy distance. 125 miles is a really long trip.

I just finished my antibiotics for my tooth that meant getting up around 3:30 AM for a dose every night. So I understand how tiring it can be not to sleep through the night. Glad you were able to go back to sleep for a few more hours.

I donít think doctors always understand chronic pain. I know my DD has issues from time to time and sometimes it seems that itís misunderstood. She went to the ER w/ a dislocation and overheard one of the nurses speaking in Spanish calling her ďjust another drug seekerĒ. Itís never wise to assume someone doesnít understand your language.

Our ďmajor thunderstormsĒ turned out to just be strong rain storms. I only heard occasional thunder but the rain really poured down a couple of times and we got well over an inch of much needed rain. Since one of the dogs is afraid of thunder, I was glad it was mild. And it was really nice that there was a break right at 4PM when I had to go pick up DGS from camp. A few minutes after we got home, it was pouring again.

Hi Y'all! We are finally back home. DH stayed over night on Sunday, too. He was doing pretty well on Saturday, but on Sunday, he was running a slight fever and in a lot of pain. The doctor came in to check on the holes where the tubes were and they looked clean. He took off the bandage and the incision looks like a big night crawler with the way the stitches are. But it was clean and looked fine.

The doctor seemed like he was kind of razzing DH about pain and wanting to stay, so I finally told him that DH lives with pain on a daily basis and very rarely does he complain. The doctor looked at me and said, So he must be in a lot of pain, then? and I told him yes. So he said we'll keep him one more night. The pain medication DH got right after surgery was Dilaudid thru his IV and that worked well. But in order for him to be released he had to be taking pain meds orally and that is Percocet. Well, that didn't seem to be working as well for him, but he was taking the minimum dose. That was partly the reason for the extra pain on Sunday. The nurse finally told him he could increase the dose and that seemed to help. His fever went away on Sunday, too.

I think DH was a bit frightened on Sunday with the increased pain and fever. He usually doesn't get concerned, so I'm glad he was kept that extra day. Especially since we live about 125 miles from the hospital. There is a hospital near us in one of the smaller towns, but it's not like being able to go to the Twin Cities. So, today, DH seems to be doing better. He's using his walker and has been up a couple of times walking.

I did get up at 3:30 am to give him his meds and then again at 7:30. After finally falling asleep last night about 11:30, I was a bit tired this morning. So after the 7:30 pills, I went back to sleep for a couple more hours. So, that's the update!! Glad to be home.

It is a nice day here - mid 70's and low humidity.

Now to catch up with everyone else -

Leslie - I'm glad you are having a cooler day but I hope the humidity lowers for you.
It can be frustrating when your grocery order doesn't come the way you ordered, but I hear you when you say you are grateful for the service. That does count for a lot. And glad to hear you were able to make room for the extra loaf of bread!
Glad your housekeeper is there for you today. Does she ever do small errands for you - like running to the store to get you banana's that were forgotten? I did some housecleaning years ago and a couple of the ladies that I cleaned for had me making muffins, grocery shopping or even taking one woman for walks after surgery! I figured if that's what she wants to pay me to do, I'll do it! emoticon
When we were driving to the Twin Cities on Thursday afternoon, we hit downtown Minneapolis right at rush hour and during a huge downpour! It was coming down in buckets! And we must have gotten rain up here while we were gone, too. The mosquitoes are out in full force now!
I'm not a huge reader, but if I'm not hooked on a book right away, I'll find something else.

Kate - The science museum sounds like it was a fun day - except for the shark movie. Good thing you left right away. And how fun to find $$! The most I've ever found was a $5 bill on the ground.
I saw the pictures you posted from the photo booth! Very nice! Boy, have they changed since I've been in one. Being able to email the pics sounds cool!
I'm sure it was hard to keep a 7 year old occupied for 90 minutes! Does your DD have to go to more PT appointments? And will you be driving her to those as well?

Cynthia - So nice to see your posts!
I'm glad you had a good time with your friends from church. I love going out for lunch!! And I do love buffets! Probably more than I should! emoticon
I have shopped at TJ Maxx, but usually never find anything there. Part of the reason is that the store I go to (only one closest) is always such a mess. My DH has found things there. I do love shopping the thrift stores. Our Goodwill up here is GREAT! I have found so many things there. But I've gotten into the habit of shopping online lately. I shop at Bonworth - they have weird sizes (I take an Xtra Small Petite) and I'm not an extra small by any means, but I am Petite. I usually wear a Med-Large depending - so their things run large. But I only order tops there. And I've ordered from Bath and Body Works lately, too. Love that store. And Avon. I used to sell Avon, not anymore but I keep my account active so I can still get their discounts!

Hope you all have an enjoyable day!!

Kate - I didn't realize I didn't post yesterday! I'm glad you're able to sleep better now.
Good luck with the dogs today!
That must have been hard for you and your DGS in the waiting room all that time! Too bad you couldn't have gone out for a walk or something while you waited. I remember all the energy my kids had at that age!

Yesterday was hot and humid, and today is cooler, but the humidity seems to be hanging around my apartment... I hope it will improve soon.

My housekeeper is here today, working away...

Mema - I hope all is well with your DH!

After a good sleep in yesterday, I spent a restless night and woke up way too early this morning. Today is the first day we're doing this trial doggie day care. I'm signed up for 2 days this week, 3 days next week and 2 days the following week and then we'll re-evaluate.

I didnít realize that yesterdayís appointment was for DDís first PT. Since it was an ďin-takeĒ appointment it was 90 minutes. And 90 minutes is a very long time to keep a 7 yr old amused in a waiting room. I had brought a book but he didnít want to listen to me read. So we chatted and played word games. He hadnít been out to run and play in the morning, so he was full of excess energy and it was really hard for him to keep it contained. When we finally got out, he was running and jumping and doing karate moves.

Leslie Ė we have some rain in the forecast this week. Mostly itís been just really muggy Ė kind of that awkward weather where itís not really hot enough to use the A/C but uncomfortable to move around b/c the humidity seems to cling to everything.

I remember quitting a book b/c I just didnít like the characters. No point spending anymore time w/ unpleasant ďpeopleĒ. LOL

Mema Ė hope your DH is releases w/o any more issues. Itís great he was up and walking already.

Last night was the last night I had to wake up to take an antibiotic pill. Afterwards I went back to sleep and slept really soundly. So soundly I didn't wake up until an hour later than usual. Feels nice to get that extra bit of rest.

I'm going to drive down to pick up my DD early in the afternoon and take her to some kind of medical procedure and watch DGS while she goes through it. Then take them home. I figure I will be heading out of Boston right in the worst of the commuting traffic. Sigh.

Mema - I'm very happy to hear that your DH is doing well! I did know fish oil is a blood thinner, but didn't realize it would need to be stopped so far ahead of surgery. I hope your DH is released today, and that he will have an uneventful recovery at home.

Kate - I'm sorry your DH is leaving again, and you will be missing him during your busy week!
That photo booth sounds amazing, especially being able to email the photos to friends!

We finally had a downpour yesterday, and the grass is greener today. There is supposed to be more rain in the next couple of days. Today it is hot and very humid. I will not be moving much!

I almost never give up on a book I am reading, but have done that today. I read over 100 pages of The Sportswriter by Richard Ford, but just couldn't get interested in the characters. I am reading 2 other books, and will also start another library book today which I'll hope to finish by Saturday so my volunteer will be able to return 5 books then.

I hope everyone has a emoticon day.

Mema Ė glad to hear things are going well. I didnít know that fish oil was a blood thinner. Good to know if I ever need a surgery.

Leslie Ė a lot of the stuff at the gift store was very expensive. DGS found a super bouncy ball for his money. And I bought him a sugar crystal lollipop. I donít think we were in the movie long enough for him to get nightmares. The scary music during the introduction was all it took to petrify him so we left before it got any farther.

I was surprised to find how much the photo booths had changed. It printed out a 3 part page of the photos so you could divide it into 3 strips and pass them around and itís linked to a web site where you can email them to your friends. It also films a short video of you before each shot so you can see yourself getting ready in your pose.

This morning I have to pack DH suitcase b/c Iíll be driving him to the airport right after church. Tomorrow Iím picking up DD and DGS and taking her to some kind of medical procedure. With all the driving and traffic that will end up taking half the day. The rest of the week looks pretty busy and Iíll be missing DH.

Just a quick update. DH's surgery went well but he had some tubes put in his back because there was some fluid draining. And some blood mixed in. The surgeon checked in on him this morning and took the tubes out and there has been no more draining. The surgeon will be back again tomorrow morning and should release him. DH takes fish oil and stopped taking it only one week prior to the surgery. It should have been 2 weeks because it's a blood thinner. Anyway because of that, the doctor kept him another night. So we are not home yet. He should be released tomorrow. He's actually doing quite well. Has been up and walking a bit.

I will write more after we get back home.

Mema - thinking of you and your DH.

Cynthia - I'm glad you were able to have lunch with your friends.
I've never been to TJ Maxx.
I haven't been to BC for many years. I've lived in many places in the US, but in Canada I've spent most of my time in Ontario or Quebec. I was born in Montreal, and went to nursing school there too, at the same hospital I was born in!

Kate - I loved the photos you posted from the photo booth. I don't think I've been in one of those since I was a teen either! The Museum of Science is probably a lot like the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto. I took my kids there when they were 7 and 8 and they loved it, but we also didn't see everything.
I saw some sharks up close last month when I was with my son in Toronto, at Ripley's Aquarium. It was a fabulous place! I'm sorry that movie was too much for your DGS; I hope he won't have nightmares. How great that he found money! What did he pick out at the gift shop?

I am having a quiet day - my groceries came yesterday, but with no bananas... There's always something missing, or the previous time, they sent 2 loaves of bread when I had only ordered one - it was lucky I had just finished the ice cream so I had room in the freezer for one loaf! Oh well, it is a wonderful service, so I try not to complain.... Especially now without a car, it would be very hard to go out and get my own groceries.

Have a great day everyone!

Mema Ė as Cynthia said, I hope the surgery went well and your DH is recovering quickly.

Cynthia Ė I do like TJ Maxx. Iíve gotten some nice things there. BC is beautiful. Since my mom grew up in Alberta, we went there a lot but also over into BC sometimes. Since my addiction is food, I find southern style buffets difficult. So many lovely looking foods.

Leslie Ė hope all your groceries arrived on time. Yesterday we took DGS to the Boston Museum of Science. Itís a huge place with all sorts of exhibits and hands on things to do. We only saw about half of it.

The outing w/ DGS was a good one. Although he panicked at the 4D movie on Sharks. I had thought it might be too intense when DH suggested it but DGS said he wouldnít be afraid. Unfortunately that lasted only about 2 minutes and then we had to leave. But the rest of the day was great. He even liked the electricity show even though the lightening was bright and loud. And he found a $10 bill on the ground so he got to pick out something at the gift store at the end of the day. I posted a strip from the photo booth in July Goodies. I havenít been in one of those photo booths since I was a teen.

Hi there!!

I am caught up reading posts. Yay!!

Mema~ Hope your DH's surgery went well today. I read in earlier posts that you are watching Midsummer Murders. That has become my favorite show. I find it so quirky, interesting, and I especially enjoy the witty lead lead detective and his sidekick! I also enjoy the countryside and the neat villages.

Leslie~ Too cool that your DS and family will be going to Australia! How exciting! I have never been there. I have only been out of the country a couple of times and that has been to Canada. When I went, ya didn't need a passport...ha...long time ago. I do want to go back to Canada to British Columbia. I haven't been there before, but I have family members who have been there. I have seen some beautiful photos too.

Kate~ My you have been and are going to be very busy. I understand the feeling overwhelmed part. I get like that myself. I am Glad you are enjoying time with your dear grandson. So sorry you are going through so much with your tooth. Thankfully you are in less pain. I do hope the nausea let's up. I also hope the tooth can be saved.

My sister is out of town so she wasn't there when I did my laundry. It was just me and the dogs. And boy were they happy to see me. It feels good to have laundry done for awhile.

Today I went out to lunch with three women from my church; one of them being my dear friend I meet at least once a month with. We are at a Southern cooking type buffet. There was a large variety of veggies, meats, fruit, salads, a salad bar and of course desserts. The food was quite delicious. We had a really nice time together. After lunch I went to my friend's home and we talked over coffee and watched a little TV.

I am so tired this evening. I feel a nap attack coming on.

Last week I went shopping at a thrift store and also TJ Max. I found a really pretty top. I actually found two, but I didn't want to overspend. At the resale shop I found a barely worn pair of Sketchers, a pair of earrings, and some nice mugs and bowls. I ordered a dress from Old Navy. The dresses were half off the other day. It came today in the mail. I am excited, because it fits and looks nice. It's not too short and not too long.

Hope y'all have an enjoyable and relaxing evening!

Kate - I'm really sorry your DD was bitten so many times by the mosquito - they are nasty!

I've also never been to Australia, nor anywhere near there. I'll be watching for their posts on FB.

Where will you be taking your DGS today? I'm sure he enjoys the time with you!

I'm glad you'll soon be done with the antibiotics.

Mema - thinking of you and your DH!

I have ordered groceries today. There is supposed to be a 60% chance of rain, but we've had none yet. We need it so badly!

Have a good day everyone!

Leslie - I was thinking about mosquitoes b/c DD said she had one in her apartment one night a few days ago. It kept buzzing around her head and she woke up w/ half a dozen bites.

How exciting for your DS and his family to go to Australia. I've never been to that part of the world.

Today we have another outing planned w/ DGS. The next two weeks DH will be away so I donít have anything planned for those Fridays. Actually, DH will come home on Thursday night one of the weeks, but I expect heíll need to work on that Friday. I might just take DGS to a trampoline park and out to lunch on that Friday. Last night was the first time I didnít wake up between 3-4 AM for my antibiotic dose. Iíll need to shorten the intervals today. 4 more days and Iíll be done w/ them.

Kate - I agree that at least it wasn't a mosquito!! I haven't had those to deal with thank goodness.

I know what you mean that once you settle into the new routine, all will be well. I'm like that too. I still think your kids are very lucky to have you helping out!

I hope everything will work out well with that tooth.

I was going to order groceries today but have decided to wait until tomorrow.

My son and his family will all be going to Australia in about a week. They are getting excited about it and I am very happy for them! They will be there for about 3 weeks.

I anticipate a quiet day today, and hope to do lots of reading.

Mema - prayers for a successful surgery for your DH.

Mema Ė you and your DH are in my prayers this morning.

Cynthia Ė nice to have you posting. Enjoy your sister time.

Leslie Ė amazing how annoying one small insect can be. But at least itís a fly and not a mosquito. I hope your favorite restaurant re-opens soon and has the same menu. My friend and I go to a local Thai restaurant that closes for 3-4 weeks each winter when the owners go back to visit Thailand.

I should say that Iím not really overwhelmed. Just ďfeelingĒ overwhelmed. Thatís the way big changes in my schedule tend to affect me. Once I get used to the new schedule, everything will fall into place.

The dentist took off the cap on the bad tooth. She thinks it may be possible to save it if I get ďcrown lengtheningĒ so my next step is a consult w/ the periodontist. Meanwhile the pain seems to be resolved so Iím feeling better. Another half a bottle of anti-biotic to take so Iím still a bit nauseous but otherwise OK.

36.5 pounds gone, 17.5 more pounds is my 2020 goal.

Mema - I wish you and DH all the best with your trip and his surgery.
My friend did take me out yesterday and I got all my errands done; we went to the restaurant to have that Thai Shrimp Curry bowl, only to discover that it was closed for renovations - that was a disappointment! We went to an Italian restaurant instead, and I ordered pasta primavera which was another disappointment - the picture in the menu showed a LOT of vegetables, but there were VERY few! At least my friend was happy with her meal, pizza and large Caesar salad. It was my treat of course to thank her for taking me around to do my errands. I was able to pick up the money for my car from the mechanic. He had sold it to the junkyard and got $250 for it which he gave to me, and I was very appreciative! I really haven't missed my car much at all.

Cynthia - I hope you get your laundry done - you're lucky to have a place to do it!

Kate - oh my goodness, I don't blame you for feeling overwhelmed! You are taking on a lot! Your kids are certainly lucky to have your help!
I'm glad your new antibiotic seems to be effective. I hope your dental work will be able to proceed in an orderly fashion.

I have one annoying fruit fly, flying in front of my face. When I wave it away, it comes back immediately.

I went to the exercise class this morning, which was good since it wasn't as hot, but it's starting to heat up again...

I hope you are all having good days!!

Leslie - we're getting the cooler weather, too. Did you get all your errands done?

Mema - if you buy peas, look for ones that are still young with the pods not quite filled out. Those are the sweetest. Have a safe trip tomorrow and best wishes for an easy, successful surgery for your DH.

Iím feeling a bit overwhelmed w/ the start of the busy summer schedule. I guess it was compounded by having vacation week followed by a holiday week.

DD has already lined me up to go with her to two appointments - one to drive and watch DGS during her appointment and the second is a genetics consult for DGS. DGS will also be staying overnight twice and be here one Saturday, too.

DS has asked me to dog sit a couple days/ week for the next 6 months. His former GF worked 3-11 so she could watch the dogs during the day. Now heís having to hire a dog sitter to come and take them out during the day. Between the extra expense and not having GFís contribution to the mortgage, heís feeling strapped for cash.

And then there are my teeth! I had the root canal in the other tooth Monday and the endodontist switched me to another antibiotic. That one seems to be working. But Iíve spent the last 5-6 days in pain w/ one or both teeth, nauseous from the anti-biotics, and a bit spacy from pain killers. Tonight Iím finally seeing the dentist to get the infected tooth looked at to see if it can be saved. In any event, Iíll be having multiple appointments over the summer for one crown and some kind of major repair on the other.

Now Ė all of this is manageable and, except for the tooth, they are things that Iíve willingly taken on. But Iím still feeling overwhelmed. I will eventually hit my stride in this busy summer schedule, but right now I feel like Iím struggling to keep my head above water.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that DH will be out of town the last two weeks in July. emoticon

Kate - well, those peas sound delicious! I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to try them, maybe buy them at a farmer's market.
I hope your new antibiotic works better. When do you go back to the dentist - pretty soon, isn't it?

Leslie - I'm also very happy all those boys were rescued! Unbelievable!
Were you able to get out for your errands? What about lunch - did you go to the place you wanted for your Thai Shrimp Curry bowl?

I got my ironing done and cleaned my house. Tomorrow I've got my meeting and then pack for our trip down to the Twin Cities. It's going to be very warm these next 3 days, but I'll be in air conditioning so that will help. We're going to try a new Chinese buffet on Thursday evening before heading to DH's daughter's house. She offered to feed us, but he didn't want her to have to do that after working all day.

Have a Happy Hump Day!

Mema - sorry your mower wasn't working properly! Good for you for getting the work done anyway.

Kate - I'm not a fan of mowing either. I did it for years while I was growing up, and also in several places I've rented. I'm happy to be here and not have to worry about it.

I've heard that all those boys and their coach have now been rescued - that's wonderful news!!
It's slightly cooler today, and I'm glad because my friend is taking me out to do errands this morning, and we may have lunch too.

Have a great day!

Leslie - 98 and sunny does not sound like good exercise conditions. Good thing you skipped.

Mema - peas from the pod aren't hard and crispy - just firm. And if the peas are young, they're very sweet.

I'm not a fan of lawn mowing. I always had DH or DS do it until we finally got a lawn service.

The pain from the infected tooth wasn't getting better after 72 hrs so the dentist switched me to a different antibiotic. Hope that heals the infection.

I cut the grass yesterday and when I was in the front yard, the self-propel part of the mower stopped working. Our front yard slopes, so I had to go back and forth to avoid going up the slope. But then I had to go uphill to get to the back of the yard. It was warm yesterday, but breezy but I was bushed by the time I got done. DH still has the mulching blade on because we still had a lot of semi-crushed leaves and he wanted them mulched good. So I was quite dusty and grimy by the time I finished up. Our yard is not nearly the way it should be but part of that has been the last 2 summers were so short for us and there were so many other things that needed to be done, so our yard has suffered some.

Anyway, DH is looking into what happened with the mower. I guess there's a belt that came off and got a little burned. I didn't hear or smell anything, so I wasn't aware other than that part wasn't working and so I kept on mowing. I finished the main yard, so that was good. I do enjoy mowing - it's great exercise and I love how the lawn looks right after - so nice and even!

Today I got my laundry done and I'll do some ironing tomorrow. Then I have to start thinking about what I need to pack. We'll leave on Thursday to go to the Twin Cities. I may not have internet access while I'm down there, so if you don't hear from me for a few days from Thursday, you'll know why. We will be back to the cabin on Saturday.

Leslie - WOW - that was a lot of emails. Glad you found out what it was. Probably a good idea to leave that group.
I was also relieved to hear they are rescuing those boys! I just can't imagine what they are going thru.
Skipping your exercise today I'm sure was a very good idea. Too hot!!

Kate - Thanks for the prayers for the surgery.
I've never eaten peas right from the pod before - are they kind of hard? I like frozen peas and canned peas cooked.
Our mosquitoes are quite bad now, too. I think because we've had enough rain here, they have multiplied! Even hanging my sheets today on the clothesline, I was getting bit!
I hope the antibiotics help you.
In TX, all of our stores are so close, it's nice but then living up here in WI in the summer I love being out in the country. I just plan to make a day of it when I need to go into town. I've gotten so used to "taking inventory" so I'm pretty good at keeping things stocked up. LOL

Hope you both have a great day!

Kate - I also don't understand why anyone would cook peas!! I especially dislike canned peas.

The thousands of emails were all spam - I have left that group (in which I had not been active for a while anyway) and hope it won't happen in another group!

I missed the exercise class this morning because it will be feeling like 98 with the humidex, and the side of the room I sit on is also in bright sun at that time of day.

I'm so glad those boys are finally being rescued from the cave in Thailand! That has been an awful ordeal.

Have a great day!

Leslie - that's the way I eat peas - raw straight out of the pod. I remember doing that when I was little in my grandfather's garden. They are so much better that way, I can't understand why anyone would cook them. LOL

4000 emails sounds like something got hacked. That can't be normal. It sure doesn't seem that long since your visit w/ your DS.

Mema - prayers for your DH's surgery this week.

Mema - I'm glad you've tried Mindhunter.
I'm sorry all the plans for your mom have been so complicated.

Kate - I only go to Walmart about 3 times a year. I only get very few grocery items when I do go there, but I try to stock up on coffee.
How great that you've been able to pick peas and a cucumber. I love raw peas, right out of the pod.
I'm sorry you have an infection in your tooth, but glad it's being treated.

I woke up to over 4000 emails from another group here! When I was slow at leaving that group, I got about 500 more. It took a long time to delete them, but I'll just leave them in the deleted folder which will be emptied in 30 days. That was quite a shock!
It's a gorgeous day here, but the heat is creeping up again.
I've talked to my son this morning - it was a month ago today that we were in Toronto. Time sure flies!

Hope you both have great days!

Leslie - hope you had a great day reading. I'm loving this weather.

Mema - I think the Walmart that is 4 miles from home is too far to drive to very often. LOL. But then we have at least 4 good grocery stores that are closer. The arrangements do sound complicated. I know that there must be many people there that will appreciate having a chance to remember your mom even tho' she's been away for a long time. In our church, we occasionally have services for folks like that used to be active but retired somewhere warm and haven't been present for years. People still remember them and want to honor their passing.

Yesterday I picked my first batch of peas and one cucumber. Yummy! I should get a couple more bunches of peas before they are done and then I'll try planting beans in that spot. The tomato plants have lots of small green tomatoes. I was going to do some more weeding but the mosquitoes were fierce. I'll try again tomorrow with bug spray on.

The tooth that didn't get it's root canal and might need to get pulled has developed an infection so I'm on antibiotics. I'll need to get some yogurt and other fermented foods to restore my gut bacteria. I already have sauerkraut in the fridge.

Did a bunch of shopping today, stocking up on groceries before DH has his surgery - our closest Walmart is 60 miles away!

It was a gorgeous day here - a good breeze and very low humidity and dew point. Tomorrow may be a bit warmer, but a good breeze again. Hopefully low humidity as well.

Kate - I know what you mean about usually having funerals and/or memorials all wrapped up. That's what we did when my father passed away. But with my mom in TX and us still in TX, first I had to wait until we got back up here. Then I needed to see when or if my DH was going to need surgery. We had 2 dr. appts. with that. The first one was June 1st, but then the 2nd appt. wasn't until June 18th. Then he had to wait a week until the scheduling nurse got back from Europe. Then once the surgery was scheduled I knew he would need recovery time. The first 2 weeks in August would only be weeks 3 & 4 of recovery time, the next 2 week-ends were tied up with other plans already made, so that brought me to Sept. for the service.

Then the reason for the burial next year is because I couldn't get the date I wanted in September which would have been the next day, but that's a Sunday and they don't do burials on Sundays. I wanted the memorial service on a Saturday so most people could attend. And I originally had been thinking of June (2018) for the service and burial since that was my parent's anniversary, but with DH and all, I couldn't make that work, so next June was my next choice. So, no - I didn't HAVE to draw this whole thing out, it just seemed like circumstances worked against me. And living away from the Twin Cities makes it a bit more complicated, too in trying to get everything organized.

DH's surgery is scheduled for "lucky" Friday, the 13th of July!! emoticon It is in the Twin Cities, so we'll go down on Thursday and stay with DH's daughter and family. He'll be in the hospital overnight, so we'll head back to our place on Saturday.

The Eco Tarium sounds like it was a fun time for DGS and the rain let up for you so you were able to enjoy the outside exhibits, too. Crowds don't generally frustrate me if I'm outside and people kind of move along, but if everyone is stopped at an exhibit and no one is moving, that's not fun.

Leslie - When I was on my way to shopping, I go thru a smaller town first and they were having their Rodeo Days and getting ready for the noon parade. I was driving thru at 11:15! Tons and tons of people, cars, vendors all over the place, so I was glad I didn't need to stop there for anything today. On my way home, everything was over so it wasn't bad.
I hope you got in lots of reading today.
I started watching Mindhunter, but haven't gotten back to it. It was interesting.

I hope you both enjoy your Sunday!

emoticon

Kate - we are also having gorgeous weather this weekend.

I know what you mean about the crowds where you were yesterday. When Erik and I were at that huge aquarium in Toronto last month, there were numerous school groups, and lots of parents pushing strollers - otherwise it was a great experience.

I plan on a quiet day today with lots of reading of course!! emoticon

Leslie - probably better to avoid the downtown street sale. We always have a street fair early in September and the whole downtown is mobbed with people. It can be fun, but you do get bumped and pushed sometimes.

Our nasty heat and humidity streak has broken and we're going to have a simply lovely weekend of sunny upper 70's or low 80's and low humidity. Perfect for doing outside stuff like weeding my garden and picking peas.

Yesterdays outing went well. It was very heavy overcast driving there but dry. It poured rain while we were inside the museum but stopped after lunch so we could go out and see the outside exhibits. Lots of interesting exhibits to see, but unfortunately also lots of big groups of kids from various summer camps crowding through them. DGS is used to that kind of crowd but I'm not.

Kate - the place you are taking your DGS sounds great! I hope you won't have to be driving in really foul weather later.

Mema - I also wonder why you need to wait so long for the burial - that sounds very stressful to have both events hanging over your head so long.
I haven't seen The Shooter - I'll have to see if can get it. I have finished watching the latest season of The Ranch. I am watching Heartland, Mindhunter, and Midsomer Murders.

I did survive the heat yesterday (obviously!) and today it is gorgeous - sunny, upper 60s heading for low 70s, and not humid! My friend was going to take me out to do errands this morning but she sent an email last night saying she seemed to suddenly have a bad cold. Then I discovered that today and tomorrow are the days for the annual street sale downtown, so streets are closed, and it would be hard to get to the places I need to go. Now I hope we can do the errands on Tuesday. I will be taking my friend out for lunch, and was looking forward to the Thai shrimp curry bowl which is what I always seem to order at the restaurant we will go to. I usually only go there when my sister and her partner take me to lunch. It will be a treat! emoticon
My hairdresser did come, and my hair is very short, but I'm glad it's done!

Have a great day!

Leslie - I went and got my haircut on Tuesday. I like having my hair washed by the stylist - just laying back and relaxing while she massages my scalp. We'll be getting the nice cooler sunny weather for the weekend.

Mema - wow! that's a long drawn out funeral process w/ the memorial in the fall and burial next year. Very different from my parents where everything was finished within a week of their passing. I wonder if that make it easier or harder that way? When is your DH's surgery scheduled?

Today DH is taking the day off and we're taking DGS to the "Eco Tarium". It's a science and nature museum with outdoor animal exhibits and indoor animal and science exhibits. There is a cold front coming through this afternoon w/ thunder storms so I hope we can see the outdoor part before the rain hits. If not, we'll stay inside. Not looking forward to driving in that type of weather after the drive last Thursday to pick up DGS after school.

Kate - I'm no longer a team leader so I don't have access to "sticky" topics - darn.
I think you're right about buying a bit bigger pepper plants. Hopefully I can try it next summer. I'll be very glad to get back to our "regular" schedule of leaving WI about mid-October and coming back end of April. I love the fall season here and it's still scorching hot in TX in September.

Leslie - did you survive your last day of heat? Yikes, that seems awfully hot for where you are. We had a pretty nice day here. It was mid-80's, but low humidity and very low dew point. Tonight should be nice for sleeping.
Did your hairdresser make it over to get your hair cut? I need to get mine cut. I think I will be going into town next week.
I've started watching "The Shooter" on Netflix - only a couple of episodes in, but it's good. I also "binge watched" the next season of "The Ranch" - still loving that show! emoticon
Glad you told me about that.

Today I got a lot accomplished as far as my mom's Memorial Service. I'm planning on Sept. 8th. My DH will be well recovered from his back surgery, everyone should be finished with vacations and it's a Saturday, so most should be able to make it. I'm having it at 2 pm with a one hour visitation before and then just cake and coffee afterwards in the church basement. I do need to meet with the Pastor there about 2 weeks before as he was called to the church after my mom moved to TX permanently so he doesn't know her (or me for that matter) and just give him info on who my mom was.

Then I called Ft. Snelling National Cemetery and made burial arrangements for both my mom and dad with full honors. But that won't be until next June, 2019. I think that will be a very emotional day for me - it really will bring closure. Everything will be finished.

I now need to make a lot of phone calls to aunts, uncles and other close friends of my mom's to let everyone know the date of the Memorial service. I will also put a full obituary in the paper the week prior.

Hope you both have a wonderful Friday!!

Mema - glad you've had time with your grandkids!
Thanks for the compliment on my new picture. My son took it the day we spent being tourists in Toronto last month.

Kate - I'm glad your tooth isn't really painful.
I can imagine that life is busier for you with your DGS being there so much!

This is supposed to be our last really hot day, feeling like over 100; tomorrow it's supposed to be in the low 70s - quite a change!! I may need a sweater... emoticon

Mema - do you still have "team leader" ability to make the July Goodies and Chat Threads "sticky"?

We took our DGS to the lake in NH last week. He's such a fish - he loves pools and oceans but this was the first time in a lake. It was surprisingly comfortable - about like the lap pool at the gym. The lake water is usually much colder this time of year.

The tooth isn't bad - just a bit uncomfortable. The Endo-dontist said the root is probably dead. I'll be glad to have it done with one way or the other.

If you buy the nice big pepper plants from the gardening shops, they might have time to grow in the months you're there. Some of the plants I saw when I was buying my tomato plants were already showing blooms.

I put up new fencing all around my little garden this year b/c last year the rabbits chewed a hole in the fence and were eating things. This year they're not getting anything.

Leslie - oh no! wet laundry. I do hate it when that happens. Glad the things air dried.

Another busy day today. This first two weeks of July is just crammed with appointments, and other things. Not my usual pace. And I have to be sure to watch the clock to get DGS to and from camp on time. Plus dinner for 4 instead of 2. Summer schedule!! I do love seeing DGS so much, but it take a while to get used to the busier days.

DS and the two grandkids left a bit ago and I'm exhausted! LOL We did have a fun time. Dakota LOVES the water and being in the lake, but younger brother Ryan really doesn't want anything to do with it. Although he loves taking baths. Maybe it's just his age - he's was just 4 in May. But Dakota doesn't want to touch the bottom of the lake, so I have to be holding her the whole time. Which is ok right now. I did enjoy being in the lake - it was my first time this summer.

Yesterday was cloudy, but warm - not hot like they were saying - and then today was real cloudy and warm. We went in the lake this morning, but then got rained out. It poured down here pretty good. Then we got one more quick swim in before they had to leave.

Kate - is you tooth causing you any pain? That's too bad you have to wait another week. I hope it all works out.
Thank goodness for air conditioning. When it's been hot these past days, there hasn't been a breath of air moving at all. So that makes it feel even worse. Usually because we're on the lake, we've always got a bit of a breeze.
You garden sounds lovely. I keep telling my DH that I want to plant green peppers. Just a couple of plants in a pot. But for the past 3 years, we haven't had enough time up here, so I'm hoping next summer. We don't have a big garden (vegetable-wise) at all because it seems some sort of animal finds it.

Leslie - was it your washer that stopped spinning or one in your building? And no heat in the dryer? That is too bad. But I'm glad most everything did get dry for you. I hope they get them fixed for you soon.
Oh, and nice new picture of you!! Looks emoticon

I'm about ready for a nap, but it's really too late in the day for that. If I do that now, I'll be up all night. And last night I did not sleep well.

Hope you both have a wonderful day!

I've heard too about the difficulties in getting all the boys out of that cave - it sounds horrible! I know they are suggesting that it could take months. I really feel sorry for them.

I'm glad you have A/C. I am just staying in front of my fan. It will be hot today and tomorrow, but nice on Friday with temps in the low 70s.

I've been to the exercise class this morning. I was in a chair that ended up in the sun during the class, so I had to move.

My poor housekeeper had to wring out my laundry by hand yesterday because the washer became unbalanced and quit spinning. Nothing got dry in the dryer, and there are things draped over chairs, and my drying rack, and shirts were hung. I think everything is dry this morning except my slippers which were really soaking wet. I'm sure it will take a few days for them to dry. I will be folding everything else and putting it away as soon as I work up the ambition.

I hope to be reading in a little while. Enjoy your day!

Yes, it's great that they were found alive. I've been reading that it may take quite a long time to get them through the flooded tunnels and out to safety. Poor kids.

It's very hot here, too. We're spending our 4th of July avoiding the heat.

I have a 12 Step meeting this morning so I'll head out to that but then stay home in the air conditioning.

Kate - it's another hot day here, feeling like 98.
My housekeeper has just left, and I need to get away from this screen.
I'll write more tomorrow.
Very happy they found those boys alive in Thailand!! emoticon

Mema -

Seems like you'll be busy w/ your kids visiting this week. It does sound like an up and down time with your sickness, the loss of your mom, your DH's surgeries (past and future) but also the good times w/ family and friends.

Leslie - we've got today and the next 2 days up in the 90's. It's not officially a heat wave unless we have 5 days in a row but it's still hot. I'm looking forward to cooler weather on Friday and Saturday.

Well, the endodontist drilled through the top of the old gold crown to start the root canal but then he stopped. He says there is a lot of decay in the tooth and it goes pretty deep. There might not be enough tooth left to mount a new crown. Soooo -- he sent me back to my dentist to have her cut off the crown and see if she thinks the tooth can be saved or needs to be pulled. And she's on vacation all this week so I'll be waiting until next Monday to make an appt. with her. UGH!

Boy, that week of warm weather while we were on vacation made my garden take off. I was seeing a few blossoms on the peas, cukes and tomatoes when a left. Now I've got masses of peas that need to fill out a bit before picking, lots of 1 inch cucumbers and tiny tomatoes on both plants. The rhubarb needs to be harvested again, too. It's huge.

Mema - emoticon I'm glad you are able to be spending time with your family there! I'm glad you are feeling better.
I'm sorry your DH needs back surgery. I thought it was his shoulder that he was having a hard time with.
Congrats on your win at the casino, and how great that you could get together with old friends!

Kate - good luck with your root canal today! I have only had one and that was in 1984, so it's lasted a long time too.

It seems very slightly cooler today, but I am still parked in front of my fan. I don't have A/C.

I wish you both good days!

Good Morning!!! I'm baaaaaaaack.......maybe not every day but we'll see how it goes.

My step-daughter and granddaughter our on their way over so this will have to be quick. They are just stopping for a visit. Then tomorrow my DS and DGD and DGS will be here for overnight! I'm excited about that.

It has been a weird summer so far - was sick for 3 weeks off and on once we got back to WI. But I think I'm over all of that.

DH needs back surgery and that is scheduled for next Friday, the 13th - emoticon I do hope that's a luck day for him! LOL

I did go and visit a friend and we stayed overnight at a casino and I won $250.00!! First time ever! That was exciting.

Then I had dinner with about 8 gals that I went to High School with. This year marks my 40th year since graduating - yikes, I feel old!! But it was great fun and we all laughed like we were back in HS. Pretty much all looked the same other than a few more pounds and a few more wrinkles! emoticon

We had a cool front yesterday, but before that it was hotter than blazes and this week seems to be headed that way. I think when my DGD and DGS are here we'll be spending a lot of time in the lake!

Leslie - I hope you get some reprieve from the heat. Do you have A/C? We do, but don't use it all that much, but when it's hot like this we do. Electricity is expensive up here because our town is not by water.

Kate - I don't envy you with your root canal. I've had crowns, but haven't had to have the root canal first. I hope it all goes well for you!

Hope you all have a great day!!

emoticon

It's good to be home from vacation and sleep in my own bed. We had a lovely time both before and after my grandson was with us.

Today is my root canal - UGH! I don't like any kind of dental work and root canals take so long. And then there will be a crown replacement to go through after that. The crown that I have on that tooth has been there for about 30 years so I guess it did it's job and I shouldn't complain.

Leslie - we're cooking hot here, too. I'm glad we have the A/C units in the bedroom and family room.

Kate - it's obvious that your DGS has really been enjoying the adventures! It's too bad your checkout is so early; will you have time for a last swim there? I wish you a safe and uneventful trip home.

It's Canada Day here today, so I think we'll be having fireworks tonight. I hope I can stay up late enough to see them. The heat exhausted me yesterday and I was in bed early.

It's still hot today and I am parked in front of my fan again.

Have a good day!

Leslie - so glad the news about the spot was good. We're having an unusual amount of heat here, too.

End of Vacation. We pack up after breakfast and drive home. We've had a lovely time but I'll be grateful to be back in my own bed tonight. Yesterday we took DGS for his horse ride and then to the beach on the other side of the lake. The water was surprisingly comfortable. Just about like the lap pool. It's usually freezing cold this early in the year.

Today I'll be packing up after breakfast since check out is 10. DGS was asking if we would have any more adventures today but I don't have anything else planned.
