Kate - they are adorable!! emoticon

Hot and humid here today, with occasional rain or thunderstorms. Tomorrow will start a string of lovely days. I am praying for good weather for next week when I'll be in Toronto.

Have a emoticon day!

Kate - I hope the raven didn't get one of the bunnies - they sound very sweet. Do they have fur?

I also really liked Miss Congeniality! The Heat is with Melissa McCarthy, very funny.

I did enjoy reading yesterday, and plan to do more today. I am missing the exercise class this morning - it would have been too much of a rush to have a shower first, and I don't rush when the tub is involved!

It's another hot and humid day, with probable storms later today and tomorrow.

Have a great day!

Bunny tales. Remember I chased the bunny out of my garden and found she had been making a nest there? Over the weeks since then, I've seen the bunnies out in the yard. Yesterday I saw a big raven land in the yard and one of the rabbits came charging out and chased that bird away. I went to look and sure enough, there was the nest right in the grass with 3 little babies. I think the raven got one of them? Not sure. I hope the mommy bunny went back to the nest after I was there poking at it. They were so cute - about the size of chipmunks.

Leslie - I like her Miss Congenitality movies, too. And The Lake House. I haven't seen The Heat.

My DGS is 7 now. He's just finishing 1st grade.

Hope you had a nice time reading.

Kate - I'm sorry your DD lost that subsidy for the camping days for your DGS, but it sounds like it will work out well this summer, with him staying with her on Mondays, and with you on Fridays. How old is he now?

I really like Sandra Bullock's movies too, especially The Heat, Hope Floats, and Two Weeks Notice.

It's going to be a nice day here once the fog burns off. It will be sunny and warm, and not as humid as yesterday, which makes me happy!

I just have several little chores to do today, but there should be plenty of time for reading this afternoon.

Have a emoticon day!

Cynthia - our Memorial day was gray and gloomy, too. We did get a good turn out at the meeting so that was nice. Prayers for a good result on the MRI.

Leslie - how nice to get your new purse. Hope all the rest of the stuff comes. I've seen that movie 28 days. I do like Sandra Bullock's movies.

A visit to an aquarium sounds like a lovely thing to do on a hot day during your visit. We have a nice aquarium here in Boston and DD always gets an annual pass using the cash she gets as Christmas gifts. She takes DGS there a couple times a month on the weekends.

Summer camp works out well for DGS b/c if he just spent the days w/ us, he'd be bored and playing on the computer too much. This way he gets to be w/ other kids, play and swim every day. My DD works from 8 - 5:30 and camp is 9 to 4. My DD drops him off on her way to work and picks him up at dinner time so we see him a couple hours every day - we feed him and he gets some computer time.

Last year she had a government subsidy that covered 5 days/week with before and after care but she lost that so she's scaling back the days he's at camp. She works a 4 day week so she'll have him home on Mondays and we'll take him on Fridays.

Cynthia - I'm glad you'll have the MRI on Thursday! I hope you'll get the result quickly.
Do you have a car? I hope your friend will be going to the store.
What are you watching on Netflix? I am now watching Line of Duty, a British police show. Saturday night I watched the movie 28 Days with Sandra Bullock - it was pretty good, about a woman in rehab.

Kate - My kids also went to day camp during the summers, Camp Genesee in WI - they loved it, and it was perfect for while I was working. I hope your DGS also loves his camp!
I'm glad you have some other activities planned for him too.

I did find some things to do near our hotel in Toronto. There is a fantastic aquarium nearby, and two art galleries, one small and one large. There is also the big museum (ROM) Royal Ontario Museum, but I'm less interested in that. I don't want to do too much. I hope we'll have time to just relax at the hotel, talking and reading.

It's very hot and humid here today. I went to my exercise class and forgot to take my water bottle. I left the class for a few minutes to get it, and just when I came out, the postman was here with a box for me - my new purse is here!! Now if I can just get the bras and a T-shirt I ordered, I'll be good to go! It was lucky I came out when I did!! Now that I don't have a car, it would have been hard for me to get it at the postal station.

I hope you both have a great holiday!

Good morning!!

Gloomy rainy day; perfect for staying in. A friend of mine might be going to the store, so if he does I will go as I need a few items. I didn't go out yesterday at all. I napped some, curled up in bed watching Netflix, and enjoying a nice phone conversation with my dear friend who is like a second mom to me.

I feel sleepy again today. I think the melatonin I take for sleep is making me a little groggy I the mornings. I may have to cut back the dosage.

Kate~ How nice that DGS will be going to Summer camp. Sounds fun, and even more so that you have special plans made too.

Leslie~ How wonderful that you are doing some research for your trip. I hope you are able to find some really enjoyable fun things to do. I am thrilled that you are going to be spending time with your son.

Well blessing to each of you!
Hugs!

Cynthia - sorry to hear about the possible tumors. Hope the MRI shows it's not anything. Sounds like a nice week w/ lots of time for friends. My MIL in Charlotte was saying they were expecting storms.

Leslie - fingers crossed that at least one of the bras fit. What fun to research attractions and restaurants. I always like planning a trip.

My DGS will be in summer camp in our town in July and August 3 days/ week. We will be taking him on Fridays so I've been planning special excursions for those days. We'll go to the science museum one day and go canoeing on another in July. I have to plan some other ones for August.

I use the fan at night when if it gets cooler. Sometimes it stays warm and muggy all night.

Kate - I didn't get the zipper front; it looks like either a clip or hook and eye closure. I ordered 2 of them. I chose a slightly faster delivery option, so according to the site, they should be here before I go - fingers crossed! I also really hope they fit well, and it will be wonderful not having the right strap hanging down my arm! Thank you so much again!

What sort of restaurant did your DGS choose? I hope you all had a good time!

Today will be my research day, finding attractions and restaurants close to our hotel in Toronto. We will also spend some time just relaxing at the hotel, and catching up with each other.

I'm glad you have your bedroom A/C in now! I sleep with my fan blowing at me during the night.

I hope you have a lovely day today!

Hi!

Kate~ So glad you are back in your Spin class! You are doing great getting all that exercise in! I know what you mean about not being able to sleep in a hot room. I need to be cool in order to sleep well.

Leslie~ I am so sorry you had panic attacks earlier this week. I used to get them and they are really scary. I hope you don't have any more. I also hope your bras come in time for your trip.

Last week I had 3 appointments.... psych Dr., Primary care physician, and therapy. Made for a busy week. My primary care doctor ordered a MRI to check my pituitary gland for tumor. See my prolactin hormone levels are you high. It might be simply one of my medications, but it could be tumors. I am grateful that this doctor is being very thorough. My MRI is scheduled for this Thursday.

I met with a friend a couple times for coffee. We had some sunny days so we sat outside. I did laundry with friends at the laundromat. Going with friends made it a whole lot more enjoyable. Friday, I met a dear friend from church for lunch. We are at a really nice Mexican restaurant. It was a right nice time.

Today, it's gloomy and rain and thunderstorms are predicted. More than likely I will stay in today.

Happy Memorial day weekend!!
Enjoy!

Leslie - I haven't tried a zipper front but I have tried ones w/ front clips or hooks and eyes. I also fasten my bra in front and spin it around.

I don't know how long the shipping will be to Canada. Particularly w/ the holiday we have on Monday. I hope you can get them in time and they fit well.

I walked home from my meeting yesterday and it was muggy and hot. A taste of the months to come. DGS chose a different restaurant for his Saturday treat - lunch w/ the grand parents.

We did put our A/C in the bedroom window on Friday just b/c I have trouble sleeping in a hot room. Fortunately it was only for those 2 days. It's cooled down again today.

Kate - Wow, thanks for that link! There are so many styles, I haven't decided on one yet, but I will definitely order one or two... I just hope they will get here before I go away June 7th. I would like to look good in my clothes while I'm away. I'm really surprised the store I went to didn't have anything like these bras among the thousands they have!! Do you get one of the ones with a zipper front? That looks like it might be a little hard to do up, but it's impossible for me to do up bras in the back - I've been doing mine up in the front, then spinning them around.

I'm very happy for you that you were able to do the spinning again - I'm glad you didn't overdo it.

It's a pretty steamy day here, and we are expecting rain and possible thunderstorms here later.

I have no particular obligations today, so I hope to get caught up with all my correspondence.

I hope you have an enjoyable day!

Leslie - have you tried "racer back" bras? perhaps with a front closure? I buy my bras on line from Her Room b/c I need a bigger than average cup size and can't find it in the stores.

No, the asparagus didn't last long. I can normally harvest for 6 -8 weeks but it needs more feeding than I gave it the last 2 years.

It's going to rain here on Sunday and Monday morning but today will be HOT and humid.

I went back to spin class yesterday for the first time in over a year. I had stopped b/c my knees were hurting but they're better now. I only took the first half hour of the class b/c I knew I'd be 'saddle sore'. I'm so glad I can spinning again. I missed it.

Kate - the asparagus didn't last long! I love red leaf lettuce - it's almost always on my grocery list.

The fencing all looks very neat!

We got all the errands done yesterday that were on my list. Next week will be the great bra hunt. Ever since I broke my right collarbone a couple of years ago, my right bra strap will NOT stay up, so that side droops. I did go to one specialty shop yesterday but they didn't have anything that would work. I think I need a bra with wide straps, but they didn't have any...

We got lunch at the A&W yesterday - that was a treat!

Today I just want to be lazy - I may be out on my balcony later with iced tea and a book.

Have a emoticon day!

Here's a photo of the last bit of old fence w/ the new fence on the other sides. I had to dig up a lot of grass around the beds as I took out the old fence. The red leaf lettuce is about ready to pick. And the asparagus harvest is over. Time to add more fertilizer and compost to that part of the garden to give it a good feeding so it can store up energy for a better harvest next year. I didn't do that last year and it was a bit spindly this year.

I hope you enjoy your time at the gym today.

Leslie - hope you have a wonderful time out doing your errands on a lovely day.

I'm headed to the gym today for my weight training and then water aerobics. I was supposed to do the weights on Tuesday but a muscle in my upper arm felt sores so I decided to wait a few more days for it to heal.

Yesterday I replaced the last bit of fence around my garden. I still need to fasten the new fencing a bit more securely and make one section removable as a gate to get in. I used to step over the old fence but the new fence is higher and I don't want to pull it down accidentally trying to get over it.

Kate - if I know ahead of time that I'm about to have a panic attack, I can do some breathing techniques, but the one(s) I had yesterday came on so quickly that I could hardly breathe at all. Having my housekeeper here, + the medication finally provided relief. I have been fine today. I'm sure the exercise class helped, and tomorrow my friend is going to take me out to do errands, so I can cross things off my list - I'm sure that will help too!

When I lived in the US, if I had Thanksgiving off, I often did have to work on the Friday - it was very frustrating as a single mom since I had no family nearby, and the kids' father was not often cooperative about taking them, or he would sometimes agree to take one of them!

I'm glad you were able to open the window for the baby robins! It's great that they're flying now.

I'm sorry about the cat's face; I hope she'll heal quickly.

We are having a gorgeous day, and tomorrow will also be nice which will be great for doing errands.

Enjoy your day!

Leslie - sorry about the panic attacks. My DD gets them and they're pretty scary. Have you tried other stress relieving techniques as well as the medicine?

Our Thanksgiving is always on Thursday which is awkward in some ways b/c the schools are closed on Thursday and Friday but not all the work places. Sometimes my DD needs to go back to work on Friday and we get to watch DGS.

The baby robins in our garage have left the nest. I came home to find them on the window sill at the back of the garage. My presence spooked them and they tried frantically to get through the glass. I moved very slowly and when they 'froze' I reached over them and slid the window open. They were gone in a flash.

The cat looked good over all but her face was awful b/c they had removed a growth off her cheek so she was shaved and stitched up on one side.

I have been having panic attacks this morning - getting very anxious about going to Toronto I guess. I have been taking tranquillizers but they do not seem to be helping - I suppose I would be worse without them though...

Our Thanksgiving is on a Monday, but Canada Day is always on July 1st, no matter what day it is. Christmas and New Year's day are also on their right days.

I'm glad your DD's cat looks better after her grooming.

My housekeeper will be here today - I hope her presence will help me to calm down.

I hope you have a great day!

Leslie - I think DD wanted the cat groomed mostly b/c she's gotten so old and fat she's not grooming as well as she did. They did a really good brushing and got out lots of fur so she actually looks thinner.

Pretty much all of our holidays are moved to the closest Monday - except for July 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Our town does fireworks on Town Day which is the middle of June. There is so much competition for the fireworks companies on July 4th, it's really expensive. They can hire a company much cheaper by going a few weeks early.

It's good you didn't get newborn size - babies outgrow those so quickly, and a lot of newborns these days are pretty big babies!

How great to have 'your' robin babies! I've been watching a live-cam of a great blue heron's nest - there are 4 babies. They're fun to watch too.

Good luck getting the cat to the vet! My cat was very mellow about getting his nails trimmed - the front ones at least. He would climb into my lap so I could do it. I never did bathe him. He was an indoor cat and kept himself very clean.

We're having our Victoria Day holiday today. It used to be on May 24th before it was changed to a Monday holiday. When I was growing up, we always had a big fireworks display for the holiday but now our fireworks are on Canada Day - July 1st.

Have a great day!

The robins' nest in our garage has three baby birds in it now. When I told my sister about it she was confused about how the bird got into the garage. We keep the garage door open all the time except when it snows. It's way back behind the house and detached.

My DD dropped her cat off here last night. I have to drive it to the vet this morning to have some minor surgery. The cat will also get a bath and nails trimmed while she's woozy from the anesthesia. She's a very bad cat and will bite and claw if you try to groom her.

I got size one diapers for the shower. I thought about the new born size but decided to go up one size. I noticed that she got about a dozen packages in newborn, size one and size two so it's a good selection. Should last for the first month I think.

Kate - I remember the old A&W restaurants with the trays on the car windows, but they don't have that any more - it's like McDonald's or Wendy's, with an eat-in part, and a drive-through window. I like their burgers much better than those other restaurants though. We also have Harvey's burgers here and Dairy Queen which are both very good too.

Congrats on winning the prize at the shower! What size diapers did you get?

I did watch all of the wedding hoopla yesterday - it was great! I especially liked their ride in an open horse-drawn carriage after the ceremony.

I hope you can have your picnic before the rain today. It's quite cool here, in the 50s. It's supposed to be warmer tomorrow for our holiday. I don't have any special plans, other than lots of reading of course.

Have a great day!

The shower was nice but not really "fun". They just had a breakfast followed by opening gifts. No games or fun stuff. At the end, they put all the guy's names in a hat and drew one - my DH - and gave him a nice gift bag. It has a set of grilling tools, some BBQ sauce and a jar of grilling spices. My DH says I went out and bought the diapers and I do all the grilling, it's actually my gift.

We're having another summery day w/ temps near 80 and thunderstorms this afternoon. It's cool right now but I can feel the humidity building already. They're planning a cook out picnic on the lawn after church. We'll see how the weather goes.

Cynthia - I really would recommend a water aerobic class. The women in the classes at the Y come in all ages and sizes. It's a great way to get moving and the support of the water makes it easy on joints.

Enjoy your taco lunch.

Leslie - did you watch the wedding? What fun!

Glad you have the scan scheduled and it doesn't conflict w/ your trip to Toronto.

I remember when I was a kid, going to the A&W was a special treat. The servers would come out to the car with a tray that fit onto the window. They don't have A&W's here and I expect they would be very different than my memories anyway.

This morning is the baby shower for a young couple we are friends with. This will be my DH's first baby shower, I think. They're doing a "dude's diaper" drawing so all the guys have to bring a package of diapers, too. DH asked me to go out and buy him a pack b/c he didn't know the right kind. LOL

Cynthia - I was just given a date for the scan - it will be June 13. I had hoped to have it before I go to Toronto to see my son, but I'm just grateful I have a time for it.
It sounds like you have been enjoying your girls' time!
I am enjoying my books thank you.
Did you go out for tacos? I love Mexican food.

Kate - Your book sounds good!
Wow, great news that you have the instructor you like again!! How awful to have had an instructor with no sense of rhythm.

I signed off on my car yesterday, and got my stuff out of it and the license plates. My friend will take me to return the plates next week, and then we'll go to the A&W for burgers with guacamole. I need to do a couple of other quick errands, so I'll see if we can do those too. I had planned to be doing these things on my own but then my car died...

I had my alarm set for 4 am so I could watch the royal wedding today, but I've been up since 12:15! I hope I can get a little more sleep.

Have a great day!

Oh Kate that is Awesome!! I am so excited for you!! Enjoy! I have wanted to go to an arthritis water aerobic class, but I am nervous about going. You just might inspire me to go for it!!

Leslie~ How are you doing? Hope you are doing well and enjoying books. I am glad you will be visiting your son in June! How nice!

Well another morning enjoying coffee with the girls on the screened in porch. So very relaxing!
It poured rain and now it's stopped and the sun is shining brightly! Yay!!

Lazy day, my sister's and I might go out to lunch for tacos. Not much else planned. If we don't go today then for sure tomorrow.

Happy Friday!!
Hugs and blessings!!

Leslie - Nice that your mechanic is helping out w/ the sale of the car and the tires, too. That can be such a stressful thing.

I'm just finishing up a really short book called, "Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It". It's a kind of self help book.

Cynthia - girl time w/ your sisters! How lovely. My sister lives far away and we only see each other once a year or so. We did talk for hours on Mother's day.

Sometimes I feel God is arranging the universe just for me!!
Backstory - "The aerobics instructor w/ no rhythm" - almost 2 years ago we got a new water aerobics instructor with no sense of rhythm. She would have music playing and she would count 1....2....3..4.5..678 with no correlation between the count and the music or with how fast we could actually do the movement. I'm not very graceful or coordinated but I do have a good sense of rhythm and the competing input of her counting and the beat of the music was so stressful after several months I finally quit the class.

Yesterday - I was looking for some movement opportunity. It was going to be a bit hot and humid for walking. I decided I would go to her class and go out in the deep water where I could ignore her more easily.
WHAT TO MY WONDERING EYES SHOULD APPEAR? My very most favorite instructor!! And she's taking over the class until September!!

Hi! emoticon

Leslie- I am so very grateful that you are safe and that you will get money for the car. Have they scheduled the ct scan yet? Praying the growth on lung has not increased.

Kate- your Mother's day flowers sound beautiful. Glad you had a nice lunch. Good job getting a lot of the fencing done.

On Sunday, a friend of mine and I went to Waffle house for breakfast. We had to wait a bit but it was worth it. Good food, coffee, fellowship and we just enjoyed our time together.

Today I am at my sister's house in the country. My other sister and her daughter are here and we are having girls time. My BIL is out of town until Sunday.

Just a day of relaxation.

Happy Friday eve!
Hugs

Kate - I'll be going to my mechanic's tomorrow to sign off on the car. It will be a relief to have it off my mind. One of the guys will pick up my tires from the tire place next week, and my mechanic thinks he has a buyer for those as well.

It sounds like you're making good progress with the fence. I envy you having rhubarb! I love it.

I guess you liked the mead if it was sweet; I would have wanted to taste the chipotle!

Quiet day for me today, so I'm looking forward to reading. I am reading a book called Indigenous Writes by Chelsea Vowel, which is a non-fiction book about the Indigenous peoples of Canada - it's very enlightening. What are you reading now? I am also reading 3 other books.

Have a good day!

Leslie - I'm glad you at least got a bit of money for the car. I know you've thought about getting rid of it for awhile.

I hope you do have those beautiful weather days.

I've got the third side of the garden fence replaced and it's looking like the rabbits are staying out. I decided to harvest the rhubarb while I had the fence down and had good access. I got over 4 pounds of stems to cut and put away. I'll freeze most of it.

We tried the mead last night. It's quite sweet but I couldn't taste any chipotle.

Thanks, Kate!

My car is now done. My mechanic agrees it is not worth fixing and can't be driven as is. He knows a guy who will buy it, so at least I'll get a little money for it.

I have had a terrifying experience this morning! I was driving my car up a hill on the way to my mechanic's garage when the gas pedal stuck! Hoping to release it, I pressed down again, but then it was stuck at full throttle, and too powerful for my brakes to overcome. I was heading for a stop sign. Thank God the car at the stop sign left room for me to go by on the right - I made a very quick right turn, without having stopped obviously, and thank God there had been no traffic coming from the left. I finally got the car into neutral and was able to get it stopped, although the engine was still racing. emoticon

I was going to call CAA, but called my mechanic first, and 2 of the guys came to rescue me. They will be fixing that, and replacing the battery, but only if the transmission leak is not too bad - no point in putting more money into it if the car is not likely to last the summer. So now I'm waiting to hear if I still have a usable car...

It was raining very hard this morning, but now it's just cool and steamy. The next 2 days are supposed to be beautiful.

Kate - I would probably like the mead with hot pepper!

I survived my pelvic u/s yesterday, and the doctor's nurse called later to say it was fine, but my chest X-ray was not very clear, so I'll need a CT scan. I'm actually glad about that, since the spot on my lung was found on a scan last November; I want to know if it has grown. I hope I'll be able to have that soon.

My bladder also has a very large capacity from the years of having to hold my urine when I worked as a nurse!

We're having another mid-summer taste today w/ temps in the mid 80's and thunderstorms predicted for the late afternoon. I want to get another side of the garden fence replaced before the heat builds up too much.

I have't tried the mead that my DD picked out w/ the hot pepper. I've tried other meads and like some of them. I usually like the sweeter ones.

Leslie - oh, I do hate that one where you have to have a very full bladder.

My sister in law is a nurse and she often had to hold it for a long time until she could get a bathroom break. When she went in for that kind of test, the technicians were amazed at how much she was holding and told her she had to go to the restroom and empty about half of her bladder before they could do the test.

Kate - thanks for telling me about mead - it sounds interesting. Do you like it?
Your petunias sound very pretty! And so do the flowers your DGS got for his mom - I'm sure she was very happy with them.

I'll be going to Toronto June 7, spending that night and all the next day there, and returning Saturday June 9. I really am getting excited.

I've been to the exercise class this morning, and will have my chest X-ray and pelvic U/S this afternoon; I'm drinking 40 oz. of fluids now and can't pee until after the test. I hope I won't be in agony a little later... emoticon

It's a gorgeous day here, sunny and will be in the low 70s.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Leslie - mead is a drink like wine made from honey instead of grape juice.

The hanging flower basket is petunias in purple and yellow.

DGS made a first choice of white daisies w/ blue accents but then when he was trying to decide which bunch to pick he spotted the roses and quickly changed his mind. He got a nice big bunch of smallish red roses.

I remember you mentioning you were going to Toronto to spend some time w/ your DS. That will be a nice trip.

Cynthia - did you celebrate Mother's day w/ your family?

I didn't do anything special on Sunday b/c we had celebrated on Saturday. I did have a nice long chat on the phone w/ my sister in FL.

Cynthia - I'm glad you found some pretty things at the consignment shop!
The iced strawberry green tea sounds interesting - I've only had green tea a couple of times and didn't really care for it, but if it had been flavoured I would probably have liked it better.
I'm very glad to hear that your brother's treatment is not as hard to take as chemo or radiation. I hope he'll do well with it.
I'm sure he'll really appreciate the package you sent! I'm glad you and he are so close. I also have bipolar disorder.

Kate - I also lived far from my mum and MIL, and now I'm far from my son. I am so looking forward to seeing him in Toronto next month! He has called this morning - great to hear his voice.
I'm really glad you had such a good family lunch yesterday. It's fantastic that your DS got that wonderful discount!!
What colour are the flowers in your hanging basket? I'm not familiar with mead - is it to drink, or is it a condiment?
That's very sweet that DGS wanted to get flowers for his mom! What did he get for her?

It's a gorgeous day here, sunny and upper 60s. I plan to do a lot of reading this afternoon.
I hope you both enjoy the day!

Leslie - I always lived far away from my mom and MIL so they always got calls on Mother's day. I'm so fortunate that both my kids live close to me and I can see them on holidays.

Cynthia - sounds like you got some good bargains from the shop.

So sorry to hear of your brother's cancer. The side effects of most cancer treatments are so awful, I'm glad the new one is more gentle on the system. The care package sounds very thoughtful and I'm sure he appreciates your efforts.

I had a lovely Mother's day celebration yesterday. I took my DGS to his swim lesson and walked a while on the treadmill while he swam. Then we picked up my DD and DH at home and met DS and GF at the restaurant where my DS bartends. We had a lovely lunch. When we got back home they gave me a huge hanging basket of flowers for the front porch and a small bottle of mead (raspberry chipotle). It should be an interesting taste? When my DH made the reservations, he didn't realize that my DS would get the employee discount so our lunch was 50% off!! A really good discount for lunches for 6 people.

DGS wanted to get flowers for his mom and the shop he chose had a line of cars in and out of the parking lot and all the clerks were working hard to try to keep up w/ the lines of people buying flowers and plants. Even DGS commented that the clerk was really in a hurry.

Hi!!

Pedicures sound lovely!! Kate your color is spunky and cute! Leslie, sorry your color isn't what you had hoped.

I went to my clearance ,$5 grab bag sale at the consignment shop, but it was a bust...Wintery things, shoes not my size. But not all was lost. I went into the store (,the sale was outside) and found two pretty tops, a pair of capris and a pair of ear rings . And at a reasonable price.

Am at Starbucks enjoying the air conditioning and iced strawberry Green tea.

My brother is being treated for melanoma skin cancer. He had surgery to remove large area from his back last summer. He now goes for a new FDA approved treatment every other week. The treatment has much less side effects that chemo or radiation. It hasn't made him sick at all. I sent him a package with sunscreen, notebooks, pens , pencils , gum, a couple snacks, deoderant, socks, and such. See he lives in a group home and has very limited budget. My uncle is his payee but sometimes seems slack. My brother has mild autism and biplolar. Good guy, just had a lot of issues. I love him dearly. We talk about ,2-3 times a week. I am grateful we have such a close relationship.

Kate~ let's hope that dang bunny will keep out of your garden. Enjoy your Mother's day lunch! How special!!

Leslie~ Glad you have grocery delivery. Very nice. You are on top of your game keeping a list of books to read...I so need to do that. Enjoy your new library books!

Wishing you a Happy Mother's day!! (Just in case I miss checking in tomorrow.)

Blessings!

Kate - I'm glad you're being taken out today for Mother's Day. I expect a call from my son tomorrow.

I'm glad your plants are getting the rain they need. I don't think we're expecting any rain this weekend, just cool temps.

I'm glad you're getting the fence up to keep the rabbits out of your garden.

I have a little notebook where I keep the names of all the books I want to read. My library volunteer should be bringing me more books today. She'll be calling for the list of what I want. I give her the names of 4 or 5 books. She's great at getting what I want, or getting me on the waiting list.

Your blue toenails do sound like fun! I live in sandals all summer so my toes are visible.

I hope you enjoy your day and especially your lunch!

Cynthia - I hope your Saturday is great!

The kids are taking my out to lunch today for Mother's day. It's been years since we went out on the actual day - the restaurants are mad houses on Mother's Day. We'll meet up right after DGS's swim lesson. DD will be up here b/c she's taking the kitten to the vet. I think it's to have her spayed. I missed part of the conversation DD was having w/ DH about the weekend.

After a week of simply lovely weather, it's turned cold and rainy but that's OK b/c the plants need the water. Yesterday, I got my drip hoses put together and installed in the garden and I replaced one side of the fence w/ wire "rabbit" fencing. I still have the other 3 sides to do but at least the part w/ the hole is fixed. I had to go out and buy a heavy duty wire cutter to cut the fencing into lengths for each side since I knew I couldn't manage to wrap it around the whole garden at once.

Cynthia - I don't envy those hot humid days. Staying in air conditioning sounds just right. My MIL lives about half an hour south of Charlotte - not too far from SC. Are you shopping for something specific at the consignment shop? or just looking for a bargain. I've gotten some really nice things at our local shop.

Leslie - that does sound like an interesting book you just finished. I don't have a TBR list. I probably should start one b/c I easily forget the recommendations I've gotten from people. When I got my toes done, I chose a bright blue - just for fun. My shoes are all closed toes anyway so they didn't show except at home or in the swimming pool.

I thought maybe I had missed a day, but apparently I didn't!

It is much cooler today, only about 40, but it will warm up gradually over the weekend so it should be in the 60s on Mother's Day. My mum died in 1994, and there are no more 'mother figures' in my life. I guess I couldn't expect there to be at my age of 75!

I have ordered my groceries today, for the first time in 3 weeks; they'll be here sometime this afternoon.

Cynthia - I'm glad you also got your hair cut and are mostly happy with it. It looks good!
Where is your brother, and why does he need a care package? I'm sure he'll be happy to get it.
I have also heard of A Man Called Ove. It isn't on my TBR list yet - I think I have about 100 books on that list! I'd love to hear what you think of it when you get it from the library. I finished a wonderful book this morning called All the Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr. That was my last library book, so I've called my library volunteer and she will bring me more books either today or tomorrow. I'm never without something to read though - I am still reading 3 of my own books!
It is really going to be hot there!
I hope you enjoy the sale tomorrow!

Kate - toenails do indeed grow much more slowly than fingernails. My pedicure was excellent and my feet look and feel so much better! I'm not so thrilled with the polish though. It looked beautiful in the shop, but when I got out in the daylight, it suddenly looked more purple than the rose I had wanted.

I hope you're both having a good day!

Good morning!! emoticon

I really ought to be getting ready to go to the post office to mail my brother's care package yet here I sit in my jammies. lol I would've gotten it out yesterday but I left for my appointment without the package. Realized it once I got to the car, but didn't have time to go back for it. Oops!!

Kate~ How nice that you will visit NC this summer. I used to live in Asheville. I love the mountains. I live about 29 miles from the NC border. Yes the photo is me with my new haircut thanks for the compliment.

Leslie ~ How are you doing today? I thought of you. I was given a book recommendation . It's called ',A Man called Ove,' . I don't know the author. I have the book on hold at the Library. There are 4 people ahead of me, so I suspect it will be quite a while before I get the chance to read it.

We are headed for about 4 scorching hot days. Mid 90s Sat thru Tuesday. No walking downtown for me....I will stay in air conditioning. Although tomorrow morning I plan to go for the big sale that starts around 9 at my favorite consignment shop that's over in the next town. I am excited.

Hope your Friday is a great one!

Leslie - I have a friend in Wisconsin who was talking of terrible storms in the middle part of the country. Glad you didn't lose power.

I've only had one pedicure and it lasted for a long time. I guess toenails grow much slower than finger nails.

Cynthia - oh, I've been known to get up and move when someone w/ strong perfume sits down. So wretched. Is the photo your new do? Looks nice.

I'm also w/o a Mother but I sent a card to my MIL. We'll go down to NC to see her later this summer. We'll take DGS and I hope DS and DD can come, too. They don't get down there as often.

Hi!

So sorry to take so long to check in.

I am doing okay. Wow we all got our hair done!! emoticon How nice!! My niece ended up not being able to work me in, so I didn't get my haircut from her. Monday I went to the nearby beauty school for my haircut. It looks nice, yet the layers around my face aren't quite short as I would like, but the gal did a good job overall.

Leslie~ so glad your power didn't go out! A true blessing! Enjoy your pedicure!!

Kate~ Hope your garden comes in nicely. I know you enjoy it. My sister has a great big garden she is working on. Each year she has a nice variety of veggies.

Right now I am at Starbucks enjoying my freebie...A caramel frappucinno. Yum! I had my therapy appointment this morning so I stopped in on my way home. I got my mother's day cards ready to go while here and there is a mailbox in the neighboring parking lot. My mother passed away December of 1995, so I celebrate Mother's day by sending my aunt's and a special friend who is like ,a second mom to me cards. I miss my mom at times. Mostly when I have things I would like to share with her, phone calls, lunches, good news, shopping.

Saturday night I enjoyed time with my best friend and her family at a small bonfire party her mom and dad held at their home. It was so nice to see them. Good food, and fellowship.

Hope you have an enjoyable day! Someone has some super strong cologne so I am out of here and off to my apartment!

Kate - I'm glad you have good weather for working in the garden today. I love cucumbers and snap peas! I hope yours will grow well.

I'm glad you like your hair; I like mine too - it's very short! My hairdresser came very late though so I had to change the appointment for getting my car battery - I'll be doing that next Tuesday now.

We had a bit of a bad storm during the night which knocked out power to part of the city - fortunately for me, it was not my part.

Today I'll be getting my pedicure - I had one once last year and enjoyed it. I can't afford to get them regularly, but really want to get my toenails polished for the summer. I have a hard time reaching my nails now.

I hope you enjoy your day!

It's going to be cool and overcast this morning - a perfect day to work on the garden. The whole thing is cleaned out so today I'll put down compost on the last section and lay out new drip hoses. The old ones were patched and pretty fragile from a few years of use. I have a few cucumber seedlings to plant and some snap peas. I hope they grow - it's kind of late in the season for peas but they should do OK if it doesn't get hot too quickly.

Yesterday afternoon, I went and got low lights in my hair and a haircut at a new salon. I had decided not to go back to my old stylist last fall and hadn't decided where to go all winter long so my I really needed a cut.

Leslie - hope your new hair cut is nice. I like mine although it's pretty much the same as always.

Sounds like you had a very busy and productive day.

Kate - I'm in the middle of a very busy day! My housekeeper forgot to take down my recycling yesterday, so I did that first thing today, then went to my exercise class. I got a few things done here, then went to the book chat at noon. I picked up the 2 pairs of pants I had shortened, and got a frozen pizza with one of the coupons I received after I notified the company there had been a hair in the last pizza I bought. Now I'm waiting for my hairdresser to come and cut my hair, and then I have to go and get a new battery for my car.... emoticon

Tomorrow should be much calmer!

I hope your day is going well.

Leslie - sorry you were not feeling well. I hope you're better today.

I really upped my weights yesterday and I can feel it. I usually have some soreness the second day. This time I was noticing the muscles by the time I went to bed. I hope tomorrow isn't too bad. LOL. Yes, it's a good kind of sore, but I don't really enjoy being sore at all.

I'll be doing some garden work today. I got my new fencing so I need to get it put up.

Kate - my housekeeper just left and I am about to have a nap. I'm not feeling very well, upset stomach, and I need to lie down.

It's a beautiful day here too. emoticon

I'm heading to the Y today. I'll do my heavy weight training and then swim a bit as an active recovery and cool down.

Leslie - that is a good deal for an introductory offer. Nice to have a new magazine to look forward to getting.

Hope the physical shows only good things. Or at least, nothing bad.

This week we're actually having nice spring weather - all week! Mid 60's to low 70's in the day time and around 50 at night. Some sun most days. Some showers every few days for the plants but only for part of those days. Simply lovely.

Kate - I found an offer that is 12 weeks for $6, so I snapped that up, and was told I should receive my first issue withing 2 weeks, so I'm excited about that.

That's both sad and funny about reading the names of the states on the license plates.

I've been out for my physical this morning and to the lab for some blood work. It is a gorgeous day but a but cool.

I hope you're having a good day!

Leslie - a magazine subscription sounds like a very appropriate gift for someone who reads as much as you do. I pay for "Zoo Books" magazine for my DGS.

I've been near sighted since I was a little girl. I remember when we traveled, we would play the license plate game - where you see how many different states license plates you can identify. I had memorized the color combinations of so many states. My brother and sister always seemed to do better and I didn't realize they were simply reading the name of the state. I was so surprised the first trip we took after I got glasses.

Kate - after all the aggravation of yesterday, today I didn't have to log in at all! emoticon
Your vision issues sound quite interesting! I've been very fortunate, not to need glasses for any 'close' work - reading, computer, threading needles; I do have a pair of glasses for reading fine print, and another pair for driving, but I really don't 'need' them. My eye doctor advised me to take AREDS vitamins for my eyes, to help prevent macular degeneration. I've been taking them for a few years now, and so far, so good.

I've just talked to my son on the phone - always happy to hear from him! He has been trying, without success to order the New Yorker magazine for me - it was supposed to have been a birthday present for me over a month ago. I told him I've been getting offers to subscribe to the magazine, but hadn't done so because I thought it was coming. So now I will try to subscribe, and he wants me to use his credit card number, so that renewals will come to him instead of to me. So, I'm still looking forward to that late birthday present!

I hope you have a lovely Sunday.

Leslie - I find that sometimes the basic operating system updates and things that I've done for years change. Hate that. And what's really funny is that when I log in here from my lap top in the morning I have to hit the log in button but when I use the desk top computer downstairs, it logs me in automatically. Weird.

Your dream about bowling balls sounds funny, too.

What makes the eye problem worse is that I use a "mono vision" correction. I put a contact lens in that eye to give me distance vision and use my other eye for reading vision. So I haven't been able to see clearly in the distance for driving, etc. I've been having to switch to my glasses whenever I need to drive anywhere outside town.

emoticon I have been trying to log in to spark since about 6 AM. I never had a problem using 'log in with Facebook' until today; I used that because I couldn't remember my password for this site. emoticon So, I finally reset my password and was able to get in right away. For years, I would just automatically get into the site without logging in at all, but that changed a few months ago, and I've had a very frustrating morning!! emoticon

Kate - I'm sorry you didn't sleep well. Billy goats sound like an interesting dream topic. A couple of days ago, I dreamed I was bowling, but the ball was too heavy, so I found a lighter ball, and when I released it, it flew off over the pins, way over, and off into space...

We had really wicked winds here yesterday afternoon, over 70 mph! I was very glad I had cancelled my appointment for yesterday afternoon - I wouldn't have been able to walk; I would have had to crawl!

I hope you can get your eye fixed up soon. I'm sorry you've had problems seeing well out of your left eye.

Have a great Saturday!

I've been tossing and turning since 2:30 this morning. The winds were pretty fierce so it was noisy and it was still hot in the bedroom from our 3 days of July type weather. When I did drift off to sleep I had really random dreams. Some of them about my garden. Some of them about a pair of billy goats I was supposed to be taking care of. emoticon No idea where that came from emoticon

Leslie - hope your appointments all go well next week. They do seem to bunch up that way, don't they?

I had my eye doctor appointment yesterday. I had noticed that I wasn't seeing very well from my left eye. He said I've got a lot of "debris" stuck to my cataract lens and need to go back to the surgeon who put the lens in and have it "polished". Basically, he'll use a laser beam to clean it up.

Kate - I love snap peas!! I hope you're able to get them planted soon.

I've had to cancel my appointment for this afternoon to get a new battery. It will be warm today but very wet and windy with gusts to 55 mph. It would be too risky for me to get back and forth across the parking lot; winds like that can blow me off my feet.

Next week will be very busy with appointments! Oh well, I can relax today, and read.

Have a great day!

We have one more hot day here but I'm going to try to finish off that last 1/4th of the garden. I just need to clear it out and add some extra compost and fertilizer and it will be ready to plant. I'd love to get some snap peas planted.

Leslie - I hope you get a good replacement instructor for the exercise class. And good luck on the physical next week. Hope it goes well.

Kate - good for you, getting your garden started already. Good luck protecting it from that bold bunny!

Sorry you had to be in rush hour traffic yesterday. I hope your DGS doesn't have that syndrome too.

I went to the exercise class yesterday; it was our instructor's last day before she moves out of town. We don't know who the replacement will be yet. I won't be able to go on Monday because I'll be having my physical that morning.

That headache didn't last too long, thank goodness. I get them very rarely, so it's quite startling to have one.

I didn't go out later yesterday because it was really pouring. We're getting lots more rain today and tomorrow. I hope that will melt the last of the piles of snow, and turn the grass green again. The trees are starting to have tiny buds where leaves will be.

Have a great day!

Leslie - sorry about the wicked headache. Hope it didn't last too long.

Yesterday we drove down in to Boston and picked up DGS from school. Took him to see a specialist to see if he has the same Ehlers Danlos Syndrome that DD has been diagnosed with. We waited an hour and a half past our appointment time so DGS was tired and hungry by the time we were seen. The doctor was very nice and the conversation and exam went pretty well. He says that DGS shows borderline symptoms so he wanted to talk to DD before he made a final diagnosis. We finally got out of there two and a half hours after the appointment time which put us right in the middle of rush hour traffic going home. Ugh! a long slow drive w/ a hungry, tired and cranky boy. I cooked him some pasta while DH picked up dinner for the rest of us at a local take out.

Yesterday hit 90 degrees here. I gave my baby lettuce plants some water and rigged some shade for them. Today is supposed to be hot, too, but turn to a thunderstorm this afternoon. Fortunately it's just these few days of heat. Tomorrow will be the last warm day and then we'll be back to normal May temps in the 60's.

I got the 3rd section of my garden all cleared out from the winter debris and weeds. It was such a nice day I decided to buy some plants. I got a little six pack of lettuce seedlings and a small cherry tomato plant and put them in the ground. Around dinner time I looked out and saw the rabbit inside the garden. I ran out and chased him out of the garden and out of the yard. Such a bold bunny - kept stopping when it got about 10 feet from me and wouldn't move again unless I chased it. I knew there was a place where they had chewed through the mesh fencing and I have some wire mesh replacement on order. Meanwhile - I took a heavy piece of screening and put it over the hole in the fence and held it in place w/ some bricks. About half an hour later, I looked out to see the bunny circling the garden over and over. It finally gave up and hopped away when it couldn't find a way in.

Leslie - sounds like a lovely day doing your exercise and then out w/ a friend. I love eating by the water and watching the wild life.

Cynthia - How do you like your new haircut? Did you go short?

Sad News from Mema - her mom died last week. Mema was able to be with her until the very last although she was unconscious for the last days.

Now she is very busy w/ all the aftermath of the death and getting ready for the move back to MN for the summer. Her DH is still recovering from the shoulder surgery and doing PT.

So - it will be a while yet, before she can be here posting again. She said to say "Hi" to both of you.

Cynthia - sunny and 70 is my favorite type of weather. Have a fun time w/ your sister.

Nice to have someone in the family that can cut your hair. I'm long overdue for a hair cut, too. I wasn't happy w/ my stylist and need to look for a new one.

Leslie - hope you got all your stuff done on your busy day.

I am going to try to finish getting my garden all set up today b/c we're going to have two really hot days coming up.
