Kate, I'm sorry you had too many berries - I know they're very prickly!
We had a gorgeous day yesterday, sunny and high 60s - the first time this year I was able to go out without a jacket or even a sweater! Today it is even warmer, with a humidex mentioned in the forecast, and we just had snow a few days ago! It's quite a rapid change; I would have liked it to be a little more gradual too!
I'm really glad you enjoyed the workshop!

Cynthia, I am glad you're visiting your sister, and that she lives quite close to you.
I'm glad you were having good weather too.
How nice that your niece will be cutting your hair today. I am also due for a cut.
I did have time to read last night finally - finished 1 of the 5 books I've been reading, and have another set to go.

Yesterday I went to the exercise class in the morning, then spent most of the day out shopping with my friend. We had a great time, and got lunch from KFC and ate at the waterfront, watching a very large swan and several ducks. It was wonderful. Today I'm trying to catch up with things.

I hope you both are having very good days!

emoticon Hi!

I am in NC visiting my sister. I drove up this morning. It's only an hour and a half drive. Traffic was good, and excellent weather! My sister is napping, since she didn't get much sleep last night, so I thought I would check in while I had the chance.

It's sunny, breezy and around 70 or so. I sat outside for a little bit just to enjoy some sunshine. It felt really nice.

Tomorrow my niece is going to cut my hair. I am so looking forward to it. I am long overdo for a new look. I always feel so good after getting my hair done.

Leslie~ Busy day! Hope you get a little time to relax and read...maybe this evening.

Kate~ How sweet to have birds nested in your garage. Hope they get used to you. I will check out the items you linked. Glad you enjoyed a good conference.

Have a great evening!

Cynthia

Leslie - when the kids were little we had wild blackberries and wild black raspberries show up in our yard. I guess the birds planted them. I tended them for years and would pick them each summer but they're so invasive. They threatened to take over the whole yard and I got tired of cutting up my hands while pulling up the new shoots that came up from the roots. In the end we pulled them all out.

We were cool and rainy yesterday and again today, but they're predicting 80's for Wednesday and Thursday. I'm not ready for that heat.

Yesterday I went to a wonderful workshop on Abstinence and a Plan of Eating hosted by my OA intergroup. It had a set of great handouts w/ things to write about and share. I'm posting the link here if anyone wants to print them out and use them.

Kate - I think we got a very faint dusting of snow, but it's going up to about 40 today, and mid-50s tomorrow! It's also very sunny today. emoticon

I have picked lots of wild berries - I especially love the blackberries.

I hope the birds do get used to you coming in and out of the garage!

I anticipate a quiet day with lots more reading.
I wonder how Mema is, and her mom...

Have a lovely Sunday! emoticon

Leslie - hope the snow doesn't show up at all. This year we're going straight from winter to summer. There was snow just 10 days ago and they're predicting 80's by middle of this week.

It's tough losing friends. I've lost a few good ones - much too young - and don't look forward to the coming years when there will be more losses.

I've never seen wild asparagus although I've heard of it growing wild. I have picked wild grapes and blueberries.

I'm trying to go quietly in and out of the garage fairly frequently so the birds will get used to me and not be so easily startled. If they realize that I'm not a danger, they won't have to leave the nest every time I show up.

I haven't seen the predicted snow yet, but it is very cloudy.

Cynthia - good to hear from you! I'm very sorry about your best friend moving away. My last 3 'best friends' have died, so that was a permanent leaving and all left me devastated. At least you will be able to communicate with your friend.
I hate having trouble falling asleep - that happened to me Wednesday night. I'm glad you were able to sleep in.
My weekend plans mostly involve reading, as usual. I finished one book yesterday and will be starting another one today.

Kate - I do know that rhubarb and asparagus are perennials. When I lived in WI, we often cruised ditches along back roads, and were able to find quite a bit of asparagus! I do love both those things. I have also eaten rhubarb raw - I liked that too.

I hope you both have good days!

Leslie - the rhubarb and asparagus are perennials so they just pop up every spring w/o having to do anything. Ugh on more snow!

Cynthia - I made strawberry rhubarb crisp for Easter w/ last year's crop from the freezer. I've got just a little bit left in there. I do like the tart taste of it. When I was a kid, we used to cut a stalk and eat it raw w/ a little bowl of sugar to dip it in.

Sad about your friend moving away. It's tough to say good bye and I'm sure you'll miss the regular times w/ her.

My weekends are always pretty much the same - Bible Study and then 12 step meeting on Saturday mornings. My DH picks up DGS for swim lessons while I'm at the meeting. Then we have lunch together. The afternoon is free for chores around the house. Sunday is church and time to rest.

Hello friends! emoticon

Kate~ How wonderful that you are able to garden. Asparagus is one of my favorite vegetables. My grandmother had rhubarb plants and made strawberry rhubarb crisps are pies. Pretty good, but quite tart.

Leslie,~ more snow eh? Eek, thank goodness warmer days are in the forecast!! Enjoy your quiet day of reading!

It's been a while since I have written. I have read posts though. Things seem crazy around here. My best friend made the decision to move earlier than planned. So today is her moving day rather than the second week of June. Quite a shock really as the decision was made on Wednesday. It is best for her family so I understand and respect that. I am sad, but it doesn't feel real in some ways. Last night we met at our usual stomping grounds...Waffle House. Enjoyed a big breakfast for dinner. We enjoyed chatting. It was kind of hard to say goodbye, but it was a goodbye for now. We plan to video chat once she gets her internet set up and running. In the meantime we will talk and text.

Last night I had such great trouble falling asleep. It didn't help that a headache came in and some fibro flare just about the time I laid down to sleep. I ended up having to take some medicine for it. Thankfully I finally fell asleep. I ended up sleeping in really late this morning. I have another headache today. A little bit ago, I put a couple drops of peppermint oil and eucalyptus essential oils on the nape of my neck and temples. That has taken the edge off.

We had a lot of rain this week, so I am glad to see what sunshine we have today. I know we needed the rain, but several gloomy days in a row get to me.

Do either of you have weekend plans? I don't have any at the moment. Probably will Netflix, maybe go to Starbucks alone for journaling time, and a little bit of tidying up.

Have a great evening!
Hugs and blessings!

Kate - how lovely to have a robin's nest so close! I'm sure it's not easy to remember to try to stay quiet.

I've never made, nor had, jambalaya - I would like to try it. I was very lazy last night and had a frozen dinner. I didn't have a nap yesterday, and didn't have a lot of energy either.

How wonderful to have your own asparagus growing in your garden - I love it, and also love rhubarb! It would be too early to plant things here. We're going to get more snow tomorrow, not a lot, but still... However, I think it will go up to the 70s next week!!

I anticipate a quiet day today, so should have lots of time for reading. emoticon

Have a emoticon day!

Leslie - sounds like a productive day for you. Sorry you didn't sleep well. That seems to become more common the older I get. Hope you got a good nap.

I cooked instead of raiding the freezer. The pork chops will wait for a day I don't want to cook. Yesterday I made jambalaya.

I got 1/4 of my garden all cleared out. The asparagus tips are just starting to show above the ground. Today I'll clear out around the rhubarb plant. There's not as many weedy things there since the rhubarb plant pretty much takes up the whole quarter of the garden when it's growing. I hope to get the whole garden cleared by next week so I can start planting things. We're finally getting some good warm weather.

The robin's nest on our garage motor is being occupied. I see the mom on the nest pretty frequently. We're having to move quietly as we get in and out of the car so we don't startle her. Yesterday both Mr and Mrs Robin were out in the yard picking for worms when I was out in the garden.

Kate - sorry I missed posting yesterday; Wednesdays are my busy days. I have the exercise class quite early, and then I make phone calls and do errands, and go to the book chat. I did all of those things yesterday, then slept poorly last night so I may need a nap today. emoticon

That is amazing that you remembered everything on that grocery list! emoticon

I've got the remainder of the pot roast in the freezer now. I may use some of it to make beef stroganoff. Tonight I'm thinking of a bacon and tomato sandwich. Did you have your leftover pork chops? emoticon

I hope you have a good day today! emoticon

Leslie - I impressed myself b/c it was a full shopping list for the week. My memory is not usually very good.

We're getting that cool rainy weather next, too.

I have some left over pork chops in the freezer waiting for a day when I don't feel like cooking. Might be today, LOL.

Enjoy your time at the gym, and your lunch out! My housekeeper will be here today, so I'm looking forward to seeing her. I hope to be reading later.

It's cloudy and a little cooler here today, and is supposed to rain later. I am kind of expecting a hot summer too.

I took a break from the pot roast last night, but I'll be back to it tonight. Not having to cook is great!

Have a great day!

Leslie - it has been a cool spring. I expect we'll probably go straight into "too hot" with hardly any break.

I'll get to the gym this morning and then out to lunch w/ a friend. Trying to decide if I'll swim after weight lifting or not. Probably depends on how early I get out of the house.

Yesterday I went grocery shopping and forgot my list on the kitchen counter. I was impressed when I got home that I had remembered every single thing on my list. LOL

Kate - the pot roast is lovely, but there's a lot of fat so not as much meat as I had thought. I'm taking a break from it tonight, but I'll have it again tomorrow, and probably Wednesday too. I haven't had one in several years, but I also usually only have in cool weather - of course it has been very cool here this month until the past couple of days.

I'm glad you're finally having some spring weather too. It's going up to the 60s inland here today, but I am close to the water so it will be in the 50s in my neighbourhood.

I'm glad you had a good night!

I'm off to my exercise class. Have a great day!

Leslie - the pot roast sounds nice. That's something I only make in cooler weather so it will probably be fall before I make another one.

We're finally having some spring weather - sunny and 60. I should go and clear out the dead stuff from my garden but my back has been sore for the last few days. I might do a bit anyway just to be out and feel the warm sun. I am just seeing the first leaves of my rhubarb plant coming up.

I did sleep well last night - just one bathroom break and I went right back to sleep. DGS has been sleeping in DD old room when he stays over. He finds her old water bed quite comfy. I don't know why he kept getting up Saturday night. The last time he had such a bad night was when he had that bad virus and high temperature a few months ago.

Kate - I'm really sorry your DGS was awake so many times during the night! I hope you'll have a good sleep tonight to make up for the 2 bad nights.
I slept well, but was wide awake early this morning - at 4 AM, so I've had a short nap since then.
It's another lovely day, and going up to about 50 today.
My pot roast is delicious! I'll be eating it pretty much all week, so I'm glad I like it.
I have a bit of work to do around here today, but then I'll be reading. emoticon

DD's social work support group went out to dinner last night so she dropped DGS off here for the night. He was sleeping in DD's old room but woke up at 2 b/c the covers kept slipping off the bed and he was cold. Then he got a cough that wouldn't stop so he was up again at 3 for a bit of cough medicine. I had switched his covers to a down comforter the first time he was up and he ended up waking me a 3rd time at 4AM b/c he was too hot. Sigh! He is normally a very solid sleeper so it was strange to have him waking me 3 times. Not good for me after the sleepless night on Friday night. Sigh.

Leslie - having left overs in the freezer is nice for days when you're tired.

The bits of grass was from nest building - but I do want to avoid having anything else dropping down on the car. LOL.

I'm waking up to pre-dawn bird songs in the morning. Someone has built a nest on top of the motor that runs our garage door. I'm going to have to park over near the side of the garage - the birds dropped lots of bits of grass and twigs down the side of my car as they built it.

Leslie - a 2 kilo roast is a big piece of meat. Hope you can get it cut down into manageable pieces. Or you could roast it and then slice it and freeze the pieces. They say a big roast doesn't get dried out as much.

When I got my groceries yesterday, I was shocked to see that the 2 lb roast I ordered was actually 2 kilos, and about twice as expensive as I had expected! emoticon I will see if I can cut it in half so I won't have to cook it all at once. That's a lot of meat for one person!!

We finally seem to be getting spring - it's sunny today and will be going up to about 40; by Monday it will be in the 50s. emoticon

Cynthia - good to hear from you! I hope you have more energy today! emoticon

Kate - your DGS does have full days. Maybe when he's older he will be able to play an instrument at school, if he wants to. That's how my DGS got started with the saxophone. emoticon

I hope you both have good days! emoticon

Yesterday was a slow kind of day. It snowed all morning but then the rain washed it away. DH played w/ DGS in the morning and I took him to swim after lunch. By 4PM we were all lined up on the couch - DGS watching something on the iPad, DH playing computer solitaire and me reading a book. DD picked him up after dinner and took some food w/ her for her dinner when she got home. One more day of vacation for him today. Not sure what we'll do. I think we might walk to a local Thai place for lunch if the weather is decent.

Cynthia - hope you get rested up from your busy days and recover some energy. Do you get those fibro crashes?

Leslie - I think we're finally out of the snow, too. I can see sunshine outside.

DGS is at school for the breakfast program at 7:30 and then school and after school care until 6PM. There's really no time in his life for music lessons or practice. We take him for swim lessons on Saturdays. I have thought that we could do music lessons, too, but he couldn't practice during the week.

Kate - as far as I know, this is the last day snow is in the forecast. Hallelujah! There is actually some blue sky now.

I'm glad your DGS had such a good time at the music class! Is he taking any sort of music lessons? My grandsons both take piano, and the older one also plays the saxophone. They are older than your DGS though.

The place you got your meal sounds very good - I like large quantities of vegetables!

I know you appreciate your DH for bringing your coffee in the morning. My dad always did that for my mum too. I'm sorry you didn't sleep well.

I am just trying to get caught up with some things here, and I've ordered my groceries, which will be delivered later.

Hope your day goes well!

DGS had a lovely time at the music class. They do a really nice job of engaging the kids in different activities during the morning. DH arrived home around dinner time last night and we picked up dinner on the way home. We have a local place that is set up a bit like a cafeteria. They have half a dozen proteins you can chose from that come w/ a couple of sides. I got pork roast w/ green beans and broccoli. And they do really nice big servings of the sides - not the tiny dishes I sometimes get at restaurants.

It was nice to have my coffee brought up this morning. DH always goes down and gets it in the mornings. I didn't sleep at all well and I'm tired out. Today DH will take half a day off to play w/ DGS - they do the things that I don't much care for. And the cleaning people are coming mid day so I need to do a bit of tidying.

Leslie - we're going to have some wet snow this morning but turning to rain later in the day so it should all be washed away by evening. They are saying it might get up to the 60's next week - at last!! My bulbs are starting to sprout so I may have a few daffodils next week, too. emoticon

Kate - we will get more snow today and tomorrow. It's supposed to start warming up on Friday and be up to 50 on the weekend! I'll believe it when I see it! I'm not going out today after all.

I'm glad everything worked out with your DGS, and your DD could sleep in. He certainly likes to get up early!

I hope to read a lot this afternoon. Have a great day!

Leslie - hope your busy day goes smoothly.

They're predicting possible snow showers on Thursday here.

DD doesn't have to be at work early today so she suggested keeping DGS home this morning. I told her this was one of the mornings I had enrolled him in a special music program and she was bummed that she'd have to get up and drive him here earlier even though she's not working. So I suggested that he spend the night last night. That way she can actually sleep in this morning w/o DGS waking her at dawn. Win - win. We went to bed at 8 last night so we both got a nice long sleep even though he woke me up at 5:20 this morning. I told him he had to wait until 5:45 to get up. LOL.

Kate - We are still getting more snow today!

I've been on the phone all day and now need a break.

I may not have time to post tomorrow either - it will be my busy day.

Have a great day!

Leslie - hope you finally get a break in the weather. It's like winter doesn't want to leave.

I looked over the side of the house but didn't see any damage so I don't know what cause the thump.

Yesterday it poured rain all afternoon. The town center where my friend lives has lots of little restaurants. We didn't take into account that it was a holiday. The first one was closed so we walked on. The second and third were closed, too, so we crossed the street. Two more closed restaurants and then we found a little Indian restaurant that was open. My friend and I looked like a couple of drowned rats even though we had only walked 2 blocks.

I need to go down and get my own coffee since DH is in CA. DGS will be arriving sometime in the next 2 hours so I should unlock the back door, too.

Good morning! Our foul weather has continued into today, with more snow and freezing rain this morning. All school buses were cancelled this morning, and when I went downstairs for our exercise class, our instructor failed to show up. We really weren't surprised about that. Now it doesn't sound like we'll have a decent day until Wednesday, when there's supposed to be some sun, and it will actually be above freezing!

Cynthia - I'm very sorry you were under a tornado watch yesterday; I hate those. We used to have them when I lived in WI, OK, and TX. I'm glad you didn't have to go out yesterday!
How nice that you saw the play on Friday, and went to a great birthday party Saturday. That strawberry cake sounded heavenly!
Did you find something to watch on Netflix? I am usually watching a few shows there. Now I'm watching Heartland, Alias Grace, and Scott & Bailey; the last one is like a British Cagney & Lacey...

Kate - I hope your DH got his flight all right this morning. We had bad winds here yesterday. Did you discover what caused the big thump?
I hope you have a good lunch with your friend.
Your DD is very lucky to have you to take care of your DGS when needed.

I hope you both have good days!

Leslie - my DH is going to CA but just for a couple days. Enjoy your reading on this wet windy day. Everyone coming to church yesterday was commenting that if felt like winter.

It's a really windy day here. I was woken in the small hours of the night when something hit the house w/ such a big thump that I could feel it as well as hear it. That got my adrenaline pumping and I couldn't get back to sleep for over an hour. DH is flying out this morning and the airport is already warning of flight delays. I still need to get him to the airport express bus before 8 this morning.

Cynthia - I'd rather have a blizzard than a tornado. I find them terrifying. I loved the movie Mama Mia. I think it would really be fun to see it live. The birthday party sounds fun.

Today is my rescheduled meeting w/ my friend. We'll have lunch unless she calls to cancel again. This is the first day of school vacation week but DD is off work today for the Patriots Day Holiday. She does have a doctors appt. this afternoon so she may be dropping DGS off here if she can't find a neighbor to watch him for an hour. Then he'll be here every day for the rest of the week.

DGS isn't planning to stay overnight but I may suggest that he stay the nigh if she has to drop him off today. Then she won't have to do another trip up here this evening to pick him up.

Hi! emoticon

Good golly, so much bad weather all around it seems. Stay safe, and warm too! Today we are under tornado watch and flash flooding until late this evening. It has been raining like cats and dogs ever since I got up this morning. I am so very glad I am able to just stay in for the day!

Kate~ How nice to have DGS all week! I hope y'all have a lot of fun together. How long will your DH be gone? I pray safe travels for him.

Leslie~ Enjoy your reading! I hope you keep power. My brother in Michigan is expecting ice storms too.

Well I have been busy, which has been nice, but I am resting today. It has been gorgeous here, sunny and warm until today.

Friday night my best friend and I went to see the play Mama Mia. It was a wonderful production. The singing and acting was superb!! It was a lot of fun and and a very enjoyable evening.

Yesterday afternoon I went to a dear friend's birthday party. She turned 76. The party was held at a local p pizza place. The pizza was good, but the homemade strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting that her daughter made was much better. It was delicious! It was a very nice time. We (,her friends, she and myself) thoroughly enjoyed the party.

I suppose I will look for something to watch on Netflix or Amazon prime. I do hope we do not lose power today, also praying no tornados hit. Scary stuff.

Blessings!

Kate - Where is your DH off to this time? I hope his flight will be on time.

Our nasty weather is continuing, with a lot of freezing rain today, and winds of 50mph. So far the power has stayed on; our power does not go off frequently, but these icy and windy conditions are the perfect set-up for it.

I'm glad you'll have your DGS this week. Will he spend nights too?

I hope you have a good day. I plan to do lots of reading, as usual. emoticon

Leslie - yucky weather, indeed! Do you lose power a lot?

My DH is flying out on Monday and they're predicting cold, wet and windy weather. I hope his flight is not delayed.

I'll be getting his suitcase packed up this afternoon so he's all ready to go in the morning. It's school vacation week so I'll have DGS here every day.

We are getting lots of snow right now, and it is blowing around. Later it's supposed to change to freezing rain, and the nasty weather will continue tomorrow. Monday it's supposed to rain and be about 40 - that sounds more like spring!

I'm glad you won't have far to go in the bad weather tomorrow, Kate.

I have been doing a lot of reading today, and hoping the power will stay on.

Have a good evening!

Leslie - it does sound like a good day to stay inside.

We're forecast for "Wintry Mix" on Sunday -- snow sleet and rain. Fortunately church is just down the street and the place we're going for lunch is just across town. It will be nice for today when I have to be driving down to Boston. My DH will be in a meeting so I'll be picking up DGS for his swim lessons.

My friend called and cancelled our meeting. She was too worried to leave her DS home alone. We'll meet for lunch next week instead.

And I think your messy weather is headed this way, too. Sunday won't get much above the freezing mark so I hope it's not freezing rain.

Sounds like good weather to stay inside and read.

Kate - we are going to have very messy weather for the next few days, with a combination of snow and freezing rain - yuck.

It's very kind of you to meet with your friend who is having the difficulties with her son. I'm sure she'll be very appreciative.

I'm glad you got the book you requested - I hope you like it.

That was great of your DH to do the laundry when you lived in that apartment!

I will be catching up with a lot of correspondence today, and then reading of course.

I hope you and the rest of the team have a good day.

Leslie - I find I'm frequently waking at around 3 in the morning. But I never have been able to sleep soundly through the night so I'm used to it. I love the occasions when I sleep deep and sound.

I picked up a book at the library that I had requested from a different town's library. It's called "The Personalized Diet" and written by a couple of scientists and medical researchers. It's based on some studies they had done. I had seen the Ted Talk one of them had done about the study and was interested to see more of their results.

When we lived in a 3rd floor walk-up w/ the laundry in the basement, my DH very kindly did the wash for us. It's a lot nicer having our own washer and dryer.

Our warm up is coming tomorrow and then back to the cold on Saturday - just one day later than your weather.

Cynthia - are you still at your sister's or back home now?

I'm meeting a long time friend for coffee today. She's in the midst of a really bad family mess w/ her youngest son and needs a listening ear. I called her a few days ago to see if she needed to talk. NOT something I am looking forward to doing, but what are friends for if they can't do the uncomfortable things for each other?

Cynthia - I'm happy for you that you were able to do your laundry. I used to enjoy doing laundry when I had my own machines. Now I live in a large apartment building (almost 200 apartments) and there are only 6 washers and 6 dryers. It's hard for me to get my laundry down there, and I'm too short to reach into the bottom of the washers now. So, my housekeeper kindly does my laundry for me.
I'm sorry you were so tired. I wonder if I also have fibromyalgia because I'm very tired a lot of the time too.
I'm sorry you haven't been able to read!

Kate - I actually didn't have a nap yesterday, just did a lot of reading. I never used to be able to sleep in the daytime either, but a few years ago, when I started getting up at 2-3 in the morning, I really needed naps to get through the days. Now I sleep better at night, and only rarely have a nap.
Did you find anything good at the library?
We're supposed to get into the 50s tomorrow, but it will be cold again Friday; 70 sounds heavenly!

I really slept last night - it was after 7 when I woke up!
Some of the Joan Didion books I ordered with my Amazon gift card came this morning! I am especially looking forward to reading Blue Nights, which she wrote following the death of her daughter. Since I have also lost my daughter, the book has a special appeal for me.

Have a great day!

Leslie - hope you had a good nap.

Cynthia - and that you had a good nap, too. Fibromyalgia has a way of wearing you out. Nice to be able to get all your laundry done at your sister's.

I am not able to nap. Never have been able to sleep in the day time.

Today I have a meeting in the morning that I can walk to and then I'll continue my walk and go to the library. It's forecast to be a grey day but warmer than it has been (upper 40's) and dry. And they're still saying it might be near 70 on Friday. Nice!

Evening friends!

Quiet day here. I did my laundry this afternoon. Then I took a really long nap. I just felt exhausted. I get fatigued easily due to my fibromyalgia, so no doubt that is the reason for being so tired.

I am grateful to be able to do my laundry here at my sisters. It saves me from having to go to the Laundromat.

Leslie- How wonderful that you'll be able to spend some time with your son. Happy and excited for you.

Kate- I am sorry to hear DDs having so much trouble with her insurance company. I know from reading posts she has a lot of medical issues from her disease. I pray she will be able to get all the treatment she needs.

I am still quite tired despite having had a nap. It was such a sunny warm day here. I probably should've went outside. My sister enjoys watching The Voice. We watched it last night. I think it's on again tonight. If so I am sure we will watch. Right now I am not reading anything. I have difficulty concentrating a lot of the time.

Enjoy your evening.

I had a new experience yesterday - an on-line small group personal coaching session. The trainer does a session w/ a small group - 5 - 7 women - over Zoom. That way she can watch all the participants and comment on form. It was a free session as an introduction. Interesting to be talking and exercising over the computer. And to have someone watching me, too. "Katherine, keep your butt down a bit further". LOL.

Leslie - sorry you're feeling queasy. Perhaps something you ate at the brunch? Hope it's better now. How nice to be planning to see your DS.

Cynthia - enjoy your little break in the country. Sounds like fun.

My DD is dealing w/ the twin devils of a chronic disease and an uncooperative health insurance plan. They denied her a much needed surgery so she's meeting w/ our state insurance group trying to satisfy their qualifications so she can buy supplemental insurance to cover all the things she needs to have done: jaw surgery, neck surgery, possible hip replacement, regular monitoring on her heart.

Good morning! I've been to the exercise class and had brunch but now feel a little queasy and have a bit of a headache. It's very rare for me to feel like this. emoticon

Kate - I'm sorry you have also not been feeling very well. I hope that won't last long.

Cynthia - yesterday continued to be a wonderful day. One of my friends dropped in for tea and we talked up a storm for a couple of hours. It was great to see her, and her little dog.
Later, my son called. He will be in Toronto in June and has made hotel reservations for us - it will be so good to see him! I will take the airbus to the airport, and a cab to the hotel. I'll need to make a reservation for the airbus.
What are you reading now?
It will be nice for you to be out in the country for a couple of days!

I hope you both have good days!

Good morning!

Kate ~ Sweets are my biggest downfall. Sorry the Chinese food didn't sit well and triggered the sweet cravings to boot. I hope today's a better day. Don't beat yourself up over the cookies. Hugs. How is your daughter doing?

Leslie~ A nice chat with friends is always great! I too enjoy The Crown. I like that you read a wide variety of books. I don't like sci-fi or fantasy either. Just not my cup of tea.

Yesterday I did some more puttering around here at the apartment, trying to do a little more straightening up. My dining table is the catch all for anything and everything. I struggle to keep it tidy. Junk mail doesn't help any! Lol!

After doing a little work at home I walked downtown to the Starbucks which is about 2 blocks away. I met a couple of friends there. It was fun, but a tad bit on the chilly side. We sat at a table outside. It was nice while the sun peeked out for awhile.

Today there is a lot of electrical work being done at my complex, so I am going to my sister's house until Wednesday. It will be a nice little break from the chaos of being home with noisy neighbors. She lives out in the country. My friend who lives just a street behind me will be coming over to feed my kitty cat and spend some time with her.

Enjoy your day!
Hugs and blessings!

I don't know if it was the MSG in the take out or what, but I was craving sweet food all day yesterday and ended up making a 1/8th batch of no-bake cookies last night and eating them. I feel awful this morning. And the scale is awful, too.

I love lilacs too!!

Cynthia - I read a lot of different books - currently I'm reading 2 fiction: Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner, and At the End of the Century by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala - the latter book is short stories. I'm also reading 2 non-fiction, The Places that Scare You by Pema Chodron, and After Henry by Joan Didion. The Didion book is a book of essays - I love her writing! I don't read sci-fi or fantasy.
Other than tired of winter, I've been quite well thank you.
I'm sorry your friend will be moving away; I know how hard that is.
I also like This is Us; I liked Life in Pieces too, and The Crown, and Call the Midwife.

Kate - how great that you had Chinese food - I love it. I ordered that for my birthday last week, and ate it for 4 days; it was very good.

I have spent the morning on the phone, with 2 different friends - great to catch up with them! I hope I might also talk to my son, but if we don't talk today, I'll be calling there on Thursday for my DIL's birthday.

Have a lovely Sunday!

Cynthia - lilacs are lovely. It's my favorite flower scent. Sorry your friend is moving so far away. That's tough. Maybe you can schedule lunch by skype once a week? I have a friend I meet for lunch and Bible study every other week and she was away during the month of March. I missed our times.

Leslie - we saw the same switch of a warm February and a cold snowy March and now cold in April.

DS and his GF had a wedding to go to yesterday and were going to be gone over night so DD and DGS went over to his house to care for the dogs. We went over for dinner. DD had chosen Chinese take out. I haven't had that in years and it was good but so very heavy on oil. I feel like I could go w/o food today just to give my tummy time to digest. I'll probably feel differently by lunch time. emoticon

Afternoon friends! emoticon

Kate~ Lilacs are so pretty, and fragrant too! Oh I do hope you do not get hit with another Winter storm. You, and the rest of the NE have had way more than your share.

Leslie~ Sorry you are stuck in February like weather. Enjoy your reading. What kind of books do you like to read? I like Amish fiction, true crime, and certain women's fiction, and Historical fiction. I don't read as much as I used to, because I have difficulty concentrating.

So how have you been other than cold and sick of snow?

I have been quite busy this week. Thursday I met my best friend at Waffle House for late lunch. We had great fun catching up over yummy food. After lunch we did a little shopping at Dollar tree. Just a really nice time. We try to meet at least once a week. In two months, she will be moving 3 and a half hours away to Charleston. I am happy for her and her family, but it's going to be quite a bit change. We have been friends for 18 years. I will really miss her. She said I am free to visit and spend a few days at a time here and there.

Yesterday I went to a friend's house for breakfast and binge watching our favorite show on on demand TV. She is a dear sweet lady from my church. We both enjoy the show This is us. Since, I haven't kept up with the second season, she invited me to come over and watch it. We had a lot of fun. I got home mid afternoon.

Today I slept in, and have done a lot of lounging around. I did get trash out, and a little bit of work done in the bathroom. I have more to do. I will just do a little here and there.

Take care!

It was snowing like crazy when I got up this morning, and everything was white, including the street. It's strange that we had April weather in February, so now February is taking its turn!

I anticipate a quiet day, and hope to do lots of reading.

Leslie - I've found that frustrating over the years when there is a product I really like and it disappears from the shelves. Sometimes the store doesn't carry it anymore and sometimes the manufacturer has just discontinued them.

We did get 1-2 inches of snow but it only stuck on the grass and melted on all the roadways. They're watching another storm coming through on Tuesday. Sigh. But my lilacs are putting out tiny buds!!

I am also very tired of this winter! We are getting more snow today, tonight, and tomorrow! I am not planning to go out today. emoticon

I appreciate my grocery store's delivery service, but now that they're in the new store, which was supposed to have 'everything', they do not have several of the items I've been getting for years, and I am not happy! emoticon I plan to have a discussion with the manager.

I hope to be doing lots of reading today. emoticon

Have a great day everyone!

No snow yesterday but bitterly cold and windy. The snow will arrive this afternoon. Wet, sloppy snow! and a bit more on Saturday, too. Another snow storm perhaps on Tuesday. Will this winter never end?

I'm glad I don't need to go out today. I went out yesterday right after lunch and did a whole long list of errands.

It's very windy here today. I was hearing the gusts during the night. They have gale warnings up for the harbor. Fortunately there's no more snow in the forecast for the next few days.

Sounds like a lovely Easter package. Glad you didn't have to wait around all day for it to arrive.

I don't like the slushy snow we get in the spring. It's so heavy to clear and slippery, too. Fortunately it doesn't usually last long.

I ran out of day yesterday! Went to bed early and now am up in the middle of the night, but I hope to get back to bed soon.

My package had Easter goodies that my friend ordered from Laura Secord. They make the best chocolate 'eggs' - dark chocolate! The package came before 1 PM. The guy delivering it had a shopping cart full of packages to deliver in the building! Tuesday was the first day for mail delivery since last Thursday, with all the holidays.
After it came, I was finally able to have my shower and then get out to do errands.

Yesterday I woke up to several inches of slushy snow. I did not go out for the book chat.
Today I will be ordering groceries.

Have a great day! emoticon

Cynthia - nice to get to know a bit more about you. My in-laws live in Charlotte, not too far from SC. I was raised mostly in Montana but I've been in the Boston area for going on 50 yrs.

Good luck on the mammogram. It's one of those uncomfortable procedures that are unfortunately necessary. A good technician can make it a bit less painful.

Leslie - hope you didn't get too much snow. I woke up to thunder this morning - quite loud, too.

What was in your package? Hope it was something nice. I usually get notices that something will be delivered "before 8 PM".

The Chinese food sounds lovely. I found a new recipe for "unrolled egg rolls" It has all the stuff that is usually stuffed into a pork egg roll - and a lot less calories since you don't have the fried wrapper.

Yesterday I did my weight training and then a few laps in the pool for a cool down. Then I walked over to the high school to vote in a town election. I can feel all my muscles this morning - a bit stiff.

emoticon Thank you for the birthday wishes! I don't live very far from Michigan. I wish I had the option of moving south - I would go to southern NM, but as a Canadian, that just isn't possible.

We have a winter storm warning, with snow coming later today, and continuing overnight and tomorrow. I guess I won't be able to do everything I had planned for tomorrow. I would be doing a lot of it today but I've been told a package is being delivered here today; I just don't know when, so I can't do much except wait today. That's a little frustrating! emoticon

The Chinese food I ordered was: spring rolls, mushroom fried rice, pork with snow peas and baby corn, and a spicy mixture of shrimp and vegetables. It's all very good. I had more of it last night, will have more tonight, and will finish it off tomorrow - I love leftovers!! emoticon

Good luck with your mammogram! I'm glad you're getting checked. My sister had breast cancer in her 40s and again in her 50s. I had a bit of it in my 60s and had a lumpectomy in 2010, but my sister and I have both been fine since then.

I know what you mean about time flying - I can hardly believe I've just turned 75!! emoticon

I hope you both have great days!!

Good morning! emoticon

Leslie~

Sounds like you had a nice day; so very glad!

Kate ~ I was born and raised in Michigan, and have seen more than enough snow to suit me. LOL! I now live in upstate SC. I have been here nearly 20 years. My brother still lives there. He said several years back it snowed closer to 10 inches on his birthday which is mid April. Way to go getting back to the Y!

It was 80 degrees and sunny yesterday so I walked a couple blocks to Starbucks so meet a couple of friends. We had a really nice time. Good, coffee, conversation and enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the pretty weather.

Today it looks like it might rain. Today I go in for my first mammogram...I am less than thrilled!! What fun! I turned 40 last July so the time has come. Seems like I was just 20. Seems time just zoomed on by!

Hope you have a great day!
Blessings!

We had a couple of inches of snow yesterday but the pavement was so warm it didn't stick except on the grass. I was thinking how strange it was to have snow in April but then I looked back in my 5yr journal and saw that we had snow the first few days in April last year and the year before. I guess I just repressed those memories in my desire for spring.

What kind of Chinese food do you get? I was thinking it's been a long time since I had Chinese food except for the stir fries that I make at home.

I'm headed to the YMCA today to do my weight training. I've just started back up 4 weeks ago after a break for most of the winter.

emoticon Kate - I had a wonderful day yesterday! We got some snow which didn't bother me at all. It didn't last long.
We are supposed to get more snow tomorrow.
My Chinese food was wonderful, and I'll be enjoying leftovers for 2-3 days. emoticon

I know it's a day late getting the new thread posted. I was so rushed yesterday I didn't think to start a new thread.

Leslie -

I'm so glad that you had so many people remembering your special day and sending you gifts and well wishes.
