How can you be so cruel, Lynn?

Guess my challenge must be a maximum of 6 glasses a day, including ice cream and soup.

I did pretty good last week. Monday I didn't get my 64oz, but I'd say 5 out of the 7 I got in my water. It was a strange week and I didn't have my normal method of keeping track.
Keep on drinking everyone... unless you are on a fliud restriction emoticon

Just heard this morning that someone I know didn't keep to her fluid restrictions, her legs were swollen to twice normal size and she ended up in hospital for ten days. I'll be good.

I got busy so I only got about 48 oz. yesterday and today's not very promising either. We are leaving on an 8 hour car ride this afternoon, so unless I want to turn it into a 9 hour car ride, I'd probably better curtail my fluid intake today! :-) This has been harder than I thought this week for some reason!

Oh? Ok....check your settings though. If you're set to get posts from the group, you should get notified in your email. I get a notification from myself (ha ha) whenever I post a new challenge.

The sun is shining and it is hot, I gaze at the water purifier and long for a glass of water but must be patient and wait. While most people are trying to drink more, I am struggling not to drink too much as my cardiologist has put me on a limited fluid intake.

Enjoy the challenge and have a glass for me!

walking challenges are always good. i need to get back to it, too.
since exercise is limited, food must be, too. i knew you didn't know that without me telling you. i need to follow my own advice.

You should never feel the need to apologize for being human. If after all you have been through did not affect you, then that would have been a little strange.

I'm picking option A. Because at my current weight, well that's a lot of water. I can handle 64oz, but I'll aim for more.
Monday I did not make the 64oz mark, but I have 6 more days to try emoticon

I started drinking 2 dixie cups of water with each child (they leave a 2 different times) before they head out the door. That gives me and them a head start on water consumption for the day. We started slacking on this, so I plan to restart that tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone!!

***This is a long introduction...if you want to skip straight to the Challenge, it's below.****

I'll preface this post with an apology for dropping off the face of the earth. Some of you may know (or you may not) that I was diagnosed with Stage 0 breast cancer (DCIS) at the end of August 2016. Without all the nitty gritty medical details, it required I undergo a skin sparing double mastectomy with immediate tram reconstruction. Essentially, they took all the fat and some tissue from my abdomen area and moved it up to my breasts. I went to sleep with some "lady lumps" and woke up with some too, which was great since I now have the flattest tummy on the planet (something I was never able to get pre-surgery no matter how much I exercised), but the recovery was a bear. I have a 17.5" scar across my middle and lollipop scars where my nips should be (trying not to get too graphic).
I woke up from the 4 hour surgery feeling like the worst was over and physically, it was. I lost only 18 days of work and worked from home November & December. Emotionally and mentally, however it wasn't over. I had a lot of grieving to do about losing my fabulous set and then I had to contend with a huge amount of anger. I was SO angry! I didn't feel as if had anywhere to "put" the anger and I began to feel pressure from friends & family to just "be ok"....after all, I LOOKED great on the outside....but I very much was not ok. I hated my body more than ever, weight loss be damned. I couldn't stand to walk by my reflection and I cried. A lot.
I had a mini-meltdown that culminated in a crying jag that lasted over two days in December, set off by the fact that my laptop wouldn't release from its docking station. Obviously, it was SO not about the laptop. I had to make a conscious decision to be happy again. Every day, sometimes every hour. I had to come to terms with the fact that dealing with the diagnosis, the surgery and the recovery was something that wasn't just going to happen like magic. There was some internal work that needed to be done. But it was work. It's been the hardest work I've ever done but I'm doing it and I'm now in a much better space. I now have a compassion for the body I'm living in, probably for the first time. I no longer loathe my reflection but am filled with a heart full of compassion for what I and millions of other women have gone through and are going through, many much worse than me. I did not need chemo or radiation, so I was "lucky".

I'm sorry I let you all down by disappearing and not posting but honestly, it was just something I could not manage during the last of 2016 and first of 2017. I knew I was supposed to post. It's not something I forgot but I couldn't bring myself to do it. It was like I was living my life from inside a very painful bubble.

So, I went in to surgery weighing 138 pounds. Prior to surgery I had lost almost 40 pounds (again) by following my own Starting Over Team "program" and getting on a paleo diet. But, because of my enforced inactivity, I've gained about 15 pounds back and that's really been ok because I've had bigger fish to fry.

What's next? I have a revision surgery scheduled for 3/9/17. This is where they will go in and do some shaping by transferring fat through liposuction into my breast area, building some nips (I've missed them!) and placing implants for fullness. The recovery should be nothing compared to the mastectomy & tram surgery but my exercise will be curtailed for another 6-8 weeks again.

I will be allowed to walk as much as I want to. In fact, I've joined the Atlanta 2-Day Breast Cancer Walk in November and I'll need to train for that. It will be 20 miles on Day 1 and another 10 miles on Day 2. (I you think you'd like to sponsor me, email me privately and I'll send you the link). Don't be surprised though, if in the next few Exercise Challenges you see a lot of walking. emoticon

I'm ready to post again and get working on the external. I hope you will join me in this.

Thank you for checking on me, both privately and publicly. I'm forever touched by the amount of love you all give to me, unconditionally.

Hugs,
L.

Ok, let's get the ball rolling!!! emoticon

64 or 1/2 in 24!!

This is our proven 1st Intake Mini-Challenge (MC) of the 6 months series (and of the new year) in the rotation. Next week we'll repeat this as an Intake MC, then the following week we'll have an Exercise MC, and then a Self-Esteem MC the following week. ;) This is one of my all time favorites! Let's drink up!

I have been taxed by my family (who is worried about my gaining weight again) with a challenge. They know how competitive I am! My sister & I are to compete with each other, the first to lose 12 pounds and then the first to lose 25 pounds wins a monetary payment. If we keep it off for a year, another payment. It's not a huge payment but it's enough to inspire a healthy competition between us. The first step in that is to increase my water and fortunately that is the first MC of the year!

Option A is for you to drink 64 ozs. of liquid, preferably water, in 24 hours for 4 out of the 7 days the MC is in effect. The MC will include the usually Monday Start Weight Weigh-In & it will also include logging in daily to post your water intake, just like we’ve been doing with the fiber Up Challenge this week.

Where does the ½ come in, you ask? Well, I’ve read up a lot on liquid intake in preparation for this challenge and it seems that we (humans) should actually be drinking ½ our body weight in ounces on a daily basis for it to do the most good (and for us to drop weight like rocks (yeah!)). That means a 180 pound women should drink 90 ounces of water daily, *ideally*.

So with that in mind, here is “Option B” of the MC, should you choose to accept it:

You may “up the challenge” for yourself and win a Gold Crown Award by declaring that you will intake ½ your body weight in ounces at least 4 days out of the 7 days this MC is in effect.

Declarations must be made by the end of the day Wed, but may be made as early as the day this is posted; simply post that you will do either the 64 or ½ in 24 hours as your personal MC and we will be off and rolling!

I hope that each of you will share your tips & tricks for getting the water ‘in’ this week with your teammates. Mine is to add a Lipton Green Tea To Go to each bottle of 24 oz water that I drink…and to keep it on me at all times. Here are more tips:

• Drink 1 to 2 glasses of water as soon as you get up in the morning. You have been asleep for 6 to 10 hours, and that's a long time to go without any liquids. (This often helps people overcome their addictions to caffeine, as re-hydrating the body and brain lead to clearer thinking and better energy.)

• Keep a beautiful pitcher of filtered water near your work space so that you are constantly reminded to drink during the day. Fill up the pitcher with the amount of water you want to consume in the day.

• Drink a glass of water before exercise.

• During exercise, drink about 8 ounces of fluid every 15 to 20 minutes.

• Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol, which have a dehydrating effect.

• Never restrict the amount of water you crave during regular exercise.

• Always make fluids a part of your exercise routine.

• Bottles, bottles everywhere! Keep bottles of water in your car, at the office, or around your work areas.

• To reduce the amount of chlorine in your drinking water if you aren't using a filter, try this simple tip: Allow drinking water to stand at room temperature for an hour or more, which will allow most of the chlorine to evaporate out of the water.

• Drink at least one glass of room-temperature water with every meal.

Also, here is a excellent article I hope you’ll read: www.inch-aweigh.com/water.html

Here's a SP article for you: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutriti
on
_articles.asp?id=1014

So, think about it and then post your choice (64 or ½ in 24) for this weeks’ MC and to all of you to participate, good luck and drink up!!

Hugs ya'll,

L.
