L, glad it's over. you had immediate reconstruction? wishing you a smooth comfortable recovery. hip to hip? don't remember your breasts being down there. glad they're giving you unprocessed food. hospitals are notorious for unhealthful food.

so i treated myself to a no sugar cake on thursday and i'm eating it up too quickly. otherwise i've been quite good this week.

LABRYANT, I have been thinking of you this week. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!!

This week has been much more difficult than I initially thought it would be. It has been a real eye opener, or maybe reminder. I think deep down I knew I was not eating my best.
-The bad, I have not made it one day fully sticky to this.
-The good, I have been doing better than I normally would attempting to follow this. And I have a few more days to try and complete a full day.

Have a great day everyone.

Hello all. Writing to you from the hospital bed following the double mastectomy and reconstruction I had last Wednesday. This challenge is easier for me in the hospital because i can choose from a menu what I want to eat and I'm asking for non-processed foods. I do have to eat oatmeal though but I'm eating a quarter of what i used to eat because of the tummy incision I got, going hip to hip.

Like i said. Just do the best you can, remembering that this is a MC only and if it does does nothing more than inspire you to look at labels then I'm happy, my job is done.

Whos ready for next weeks MC? ;)

L.

Alright, I've decided that I am going to tweak this challenge a bit to make a bit more sustainable. I am going to define non processed food more traditionally, as food in its purest form. In other words I will include whole grains and ask fruits and veggies. I have to say it's still pretty challenging but doing well so far and hope to keep it up.

OK I had what I would call a perfect day but I'm not sure about everything. The canned red beans I ate had no preservatives but natural seasonings. Also, I had a small piece of homemade squash souffle that had whole wheat flour and some demerara sugar. Otherwise it was great lots of awareness and I got in more veggies than usual. But, I found I was fuller for shorter periods of time and I went out of my calorie range but it was 38% protein so I guess it's not too bad. I will try again tomorrow.
In general what is the consensus on homemade baked goods using whole wheat flour and demrara sugar or other natural sweetness?

L, wishing you a good experience and quick comfortable recovery. my understanding is that your prognosis is very good.don't gain back the weight you'll lose (though it's a lousy way to lose it).

i've also started non-homogenized milk. i don't understand why there is no layer of fat on top.

generally don't eat processed food. not willing to restrict my fruit to your suggestion.

Well, my dinner last night was almost completely unprocessed. I had locally grown/made pork, cabbage, shallots, cauliflower, milk, butter, and seasonings but did have shredded cheddar cheese. I know Beyond Diet isn't a big fan of dairy, but I do try and get as much of my dairy local and minimally processed, so I figure that helps. My milk isn't even homogenized!

it sounds too strict for me but I might try it for one day. I already try to avoid processed food, not always successfully, and eat a lot of fruit and veggies.

I am checking in for this week a bit belated. I definitely would love to give this a try. Although, I'm not sure I'll be perfect. I'll aim for one day of perfection (probably Thursday) and the rest will be lots of awareness and as close to perfect as possible. Any explanation on the limited fruit?

I can work on more real food and cut out a lot of the processed foods.
However, I have already eaten a fresh peach. Not sure why some fruits are cut out.

I'm pretty much low on processed foods already. I have one piece of sausage with my breakfast and add pbfit to my smoothie. I barely eat during the day and it's mostly fruits and veggies. Dinners are mostly meats and veggies with occasional additions like sauces and salad dressings.

I get Isabel's Beyond Diet emails, but I've found her system too exclusive for me. I do like some of her substitute items though!

Remember, all...this is a MINI Challenge...you do not have to do this every single day of the week. I'm challenging you to do it for a couple of days...when you can...this is merely to gain some insight into processed foods.

Heck, if you begin to read labels, that's a habit that you've not done before and it fits the challenge!

Go for the MINI part this week if all 7 days is too much!

I know I should be eating this way, but I'm a picky eater and have found that I may see immediate success when I deny myself the bad foods I love, but (time for some transparency) I eventually have such cravings that I end up binge eating and regaining everything I lost (and then some) so I'm better off indulging a little occasionally and adjusting accordingly. 5 years ago I lost 65 pounds that way and right now I'm up about 20 pounds but I'm on my way back down in a manner I can live with. I will try to eat more natural this week, but this time I can't commit all the way. Good luck to everyone though!

Seeing I am new to this Team (1 month) and I have loved the MCs, I cannot do this one... it is too restrictive for me.

The time is here to make things happen!

This week I'm going to challenge the way you are eating. It is only the 2nd time we've done this MC on the Team and I'm interested to see how many of you are on board with it and what progress you make because of it.

I have lost over 30 pounds in April, beginning 12/26/15 and I've done it by eating an all natural, high protein diet. I think I told you all I signed up with Beyond Diet for their meal plans (SP meal plans didn't work for me as they had too many things on them I couldn't eat, e.g. dairy, etc.) I've enjoyed their meal plans immensely, and without getting into the nitty gritty of it, essentially I cut out every food that is processed.

Let that sink in for a moment.....

What this forces us to do is stay on the outside rim of the grocery store, sticking with fresh foods that you cook yourself. It does NOT include: bread, pasta, rice, frozen entree's, packaged cheeses, yogurt, etc.

That said, any grain that is sprouted is ok, plain yogurt is ok (with honey if you choose), bacon is ok...but choose meats with no nitrates and no nitrites, minimally or not processed. Choose wild caught fish, not farmed and choose, organic if you can/are able to.

The only fruits you are allowed this week are: green apples, bananas and any kind of berry.

Eggs are ok, they are in your diet, farm fresh is best or get organic, free-range if you can! Raw nuts are ok. Not the roasted, and not the salted kind. Raw nut butters are ok, but not with sugar in them. Next is pre-packaged greens and fresh frozen veggies, such as spinach. It comes in a bag but that is ok....it's fresh. Lastly, any canned item is ok as long as it is organic, no sugar or salt or preservatives added.

So, who cares to try this? It has worked for me for the last 3 months and I'm anxious to see what kind of progress you can make with me.

If you have any questionable item, just ask.

Good luck and happy shopping!

L.

PS: I'll be in the hospital beginning Wednesday but will try to post the following weeks challenge asap so all I have to do is move it up.
