I didn't list my 4 things but they would have all been:

1) start a garden
2) start a garden
3) start a garden
4) start a garden

I've had the area tilled and I've been wanting to start a small garden for forever. I was able to do that this week. :D I still have rows to plan but I've made a good start. :D

Not so well as I'd hoped. Still one load of laundry to finish and too many papers on desk.

poor timing. the problem is that i will have a busy two weeks ahead of me. lack of time, rather than fear, will keep me from doing things. i'll list some anyway just to raise my consciousness.not what you are lookin for.
1. read loads of things
2. do assorted exercises
3. finish headspace book.i'll be embarrassed if i can't manage last 40 pages in a week. maybe this should read "redo the take 10" once a day.
4. find a replacement dance class

Just back in from overseas! Your Challenge for this week is one that is generally very popular:

This weeks MC is an Esteem Week so we'll be doing something to help us feel good about ourselves (read: raise the self-esteem).

I'm a firm believer that if you feel good about yourself and your surroundings, you are half way there! That's why I include an Esteem MC every month. It is JUST AS important as exercise, the way you feel about yourself, your accomplishments, no matter how small, and your journey.

This is once again a repeat one of our most popular challenges from the previous series, so I hope all the folks that have joined since we did it the last time will like it as much as those who did it before. Also, it's a time for those of you who have already done this MC to take a look at your progress from last time. Ok! Strap yourselves in, here we go!

My story regarding this MC:
I had indulged (and sometimes still do) in so much negative self talk about my weight for SO long that it literally exhausted me. Since I originally lost 50 pounds, I've gained some weight back, in fact, almost all of it as I sit here this morning, and that's when I noticed the negative self talk creep back in. It's not pretty, repeating negative things in your head to yourself. Some of it sneaks out of my mouth. There are some things that I had done to change my life over the last 4 years that had also helped me slow down the constant negative talk in my head....for instance, starting to hike again, an activity that I always loved when I was younger. Simply through meeting a member of this group, I was inspired to begin hiking again. I joined a group of hikers back in February 2007, then I joined another group of hikers and I actually went on a 10 mile hike for the first time in my life!! Since then, I hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, 10 miles in, and slept down there for 4 nights in July of 2009! Hiking also led me to pick up another previous interest: photography.

I've always been interested in photography, even took a class many moons ago to get better at it. I've had several of my photographs was published. Also, I started taking Ballroom Dance lessons 3-4 years ago and began competing last year!!! Ballroom Dancing led me to become a licensed Zumba(R) Fitness Instructor in 2012 and continue my education just yesterday with another licensing level! I have started to teach a regular Zumba class every Tuesday in my own home studio! I've been teaching Zumba for a year and half now, every week.

And cooking. I've always enjoyed cooking and in the last 2 years I've picked it back up with a little passion. My Facebook posts are mostly about the food I make.

These are all things that I very nearly didn't begin almost any of them. Why?

FEAR!

Because at the last minute, my mind started working overtime from a negative angle and it began telling me, 'WHAT are you thinking? You aren't fit enough to be hiking 10 miles!" or "You haven't danced in YEARS, you might look stupid!" and "Pssst....You are no better a photographer than anyone else" and then the most recent, "You stink at memorizing choreography, so there's no way you can make it through leading an entire Zumba class!"

The mind can play terrible tricks on a person. It's the same negative self-talk and fear that kept me from doing things I love or am interested in trying. Truth is, what was whispering in my ear was a, literally, paralyzing fear of failure. I was afraid of being last in the line on the hike, I was afraid of holding up others, I was afraid I'd look like a fool on the dance floor, I was afraid I'd come in last in the chili cook off, afraid to be in front and mess up the choreography. Many scenarios, none of them good, ran through my head. I am, frankly, scared to death to undertake new things that are outside my comfort zone but I've adopted the saying, "Face the Fear and Do It Anyway" as a mantra.

There is such a huge sense of accomplishment I have for doing some of these things and the feeling of self worth that it gave me is still here! Doing things that I didn't think I could do has done so much for me. I feel more confident in those things that I've actually tried and it's fueled me to try more new things, without the huge burden of fear & of failure weighing over me.

Am I still afraid? Unequivocally, yes. I still, honest, stink at memorizing choreography. What I realized though is that if I do not compare myself to others' abilities, recognize what it is that *I* must do to succeed, and concentrate on those things, I can actually succeed! So maybe I have to work a little harder at memorizing the routines than other people do, so what? If I concentrate and put in the work, it does come.

So, be easy on yourself. Stop comparing yourself to others! Recognize the areas you need to work hard and just do it! You will gain confidence and gain a new freedom in proving to yourself that you CAN DO!

So, the Esteem MC this week is to List 4 things that you have been meaning to do but simply have not gotten a round to it yet. They do NOT have to be "big" things. For instance, one of the things I added to my list last time was to complete one crochet square. I hadn't crocheted since my eye surgery in February 2011. But, I had learned there was a "Sit & Knit" about a mile from my house. I hemmed & hawed about whether I should wear the crocheted shawl I made a few years ago to the Sit & Knit. I put it on, I put it back in the closet, I put it back on again. I was certain that every other lady attending that night would have an brilliant creation and mine would be laughable, not worth looking at. But head held high, I took a big deep breath and wore it in the door. To my utter shock, I was met at the door by several ladies who couldn't wait to compliment my shawl. I was so pleasantly surprised! I didn't get much done that night & I wanted to complete just one square that week! I did.

Another thing I've had on a previous list was to just START reading a book I've had for the last year. I don't know why but making time for reading is hard and it's something I love so much. I've noticed folks in the past have posted that they just want to take a minute for themselves and take a bath, door closed, lights down and RELAX! Perhaps it's just cleaning out your closet...whatever you feel will give you a feeling of accomplishment...something either long overdue or something that you must face a fear to "win" over.

Rules of the MC:
The list must only include things for yourself. It cannot include things that you want to do or buy for your family or your children.

Post your list of the 4 things you haven't had time to do in this Forum; things that have slipped through the cracks of your busy life or that you've wanted to do but for whatever reason haven't done.....and then pick ONE of those things and actually DO IT by the end of the MC (end of the week).

Want extra credit? (LOL) Pick and DO more than one thing on your list!

Post your thoughts, feelings and experiences about doing this one thing here in this Forum as well. Post a link to a picture...we'd love to SEE it, see you, get to know you better through your thoughts, experiences, failures & achievements with this Team.

I wish you all great success this week. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them....as always,

Hugs ya'll!

L.
