It amazes me how many foods are 'dumbed down' with low calorie sweeteners!

I had a big talk with my son awhile back on this topic. Now he reminds me not to order my diet coke when we're eating out.

I subsitute iced tea.... I think I mentioned this recently, but hibiscus tea is very sweet tasting with... no calories.

This is a great challenge! I used to drink tons of diet pepsi because the real soda made my teeth squeak. Until i read how horrible the artificial sweeteners really are. Don't plan on having then eat up my insides and hand me cancer on a silver platter. So i will be looking for hidden sweeteners this week and avoid them like the plague. How is everyone doing?

emoticon I used to eat little candies (I can't remember what they're called) just a little something sweet after a meal -- only a few calories each. I'd been eating a couple of packages a month until I realized they were sweetened artificially - I didn't expect to find 'fake' sugar in a candy - it wasn't advertised it on the front of the package as a selling point and they didn't have the artificial after-taste. It made me a lot more conscious of looking at labels for artificial sweeteners; I thought I'd been avoiding them all already. emoticon

This is a brand new Mini-Challenge but it's been something I've been doing for the last year and I wanted to share. I think we've done this one only once before.

I was a big, big lover of The Little Pink Packet called SweetnLow, the artificial sweetener. And when I say love, I mean LOVE. I even sewed myself a personal carrier for my purse especially for the pink packet. There are other packets out there, there's the Blue, there's the Yellow and I think there is now the White & Green (Truvia). I was using 2 pink packets PER CUP of coffee or tea plus adding pre-sweetened creamer on top of that. I was drinking 2-4 cups of coffee a day, so that's up to 8 packets in just my coffee or tea!

My doctor told me to get off of the artificial stuff immediately. He said that if lab rats are fed only those sweeteners, they gain weight, though the cause is not known.

Here are a few articles on the subject I found useful:

Your challenge for this week is to get off of any of the bad sweeteners on the list above and move to the "good" sweeteners.

Yes, this means Diet Sodas or Pops or Cokes, or whatever you call them, too!

Do that for 5 of the 7 days remaining in the Challenge. See what you think! Post here.
