God, grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me.

face your stuff. don't stuff your face.

L, i fell and fractured my foot. it's healing.
jaw surgery was final procedure in something that started half a year ago. i'm recovering slowly.

top 2 links don't work for me.

this wasn't here on monday (holiday) and i forgot about it since then. i've been taking it easy and doing relaxing things:
deep breathing
daily puzzles
daily short slow walks
phone and in-person visits
meditation cd's
reading

not looking forward to resuming work on monday but glad to have recovered enough to do so.

This week, we're on Week 4 in the rotation which means we are on our Self Esteem Mini-Challenge!

How many of us fill our lives with so many things that sometimes we feel utterly overwhelmed? I am guilty of that, certainly...sometimes worse than others!

I'm sure many of you have read this one before but it's such a good example in my life, I'm afraid I'm going to repeat it again for the new folks: I used to take on SO much without realizing it....or I offer for new tasks all the while wondering, then worrying, about how I was going to fit anything more into my already bulging schedule and life.

I'm an artist. Several years ago I thought I would make a little extra money doing pet portraiture. Fortunately, it seemed, I immediately began getting commission after commission that I kept saying "yes" to. I was thrilled! Until I realized that they had started to pile up. It got to the point where the act of painting for me was no longer the stress-relieving fun time I had come to look forward to. Instead, it had quickly become a 'chore' to complete the commissions fast fast fast and it actually began to cause more stress than it alleviated.

Unable to manage commissions definitely left me harried and depressed. I eventually returned several of the commissions with apologies that I simply could not get them done. What a relief! I was able to breathe again. The pressure was off. But, I felt somewhat of a failure.

I learned from that experience that I can NOT agree to do things I cannot fit into my schedule or projects that will provide more stress than they relieve. It took a while to figure out how to spot those stress inducing tasks though and to learn that saying "No" from the start is SO MUCH better for me than saying "No" after the fact and feeling like a big failure. Of course, that part takes practice!

I have learned that just because I CAN do something, doesn't mean I HAVE to do it!

Wow! What a revelation!

I let it go. In my mind I learned to say, "No thank you" and I not made a call to accept yet another candle burning project that was surely fraught with stress since. I've made similar changes in my life, too, in order to simplify and let go of stress. For instance, I stopped the daily newspaper & stopped all my subscription magazines. I never had time to read the newspaper or the magazines and they would pile up in the corner waiting for me; each time I walked by I could feel them calling to me, asking for my time. Then, to top it off, I felt guilty that I was paying for subscriptions that I wasn't reading. All that has stopped. I said, "No thank you" to all the requests for renewals and simplified. Update: I started my newspaper subscription again for the SOLE purpose of getting the coupons. In order to relieve the stress associated with not reading the paper, I open it, immediately throw away everything that isn't a coupon and I feel just fine about it. I am sticking to my purpose of getting the paper.

The update on this is that I have an annual subscription to the paper and I'm no longer couponing like I used to, so they are piling up and causing stress! Ugh. The subscription stopped in November...relief!!!

Recently, I opened a shop on Facebook called Crochet Cafe' by LB (come & Like my Page if that interests you!). I'm getting in consistent orders for things but it's not out of hand...I'm paying close attention and if it starts to become real "work", I'll need to make some decisions.  So far, so good. Shew!

Those are some examples in my life that have really helped me simplify. Now, it's time for next weeks MC:

It's for you to say "YES!" to some stress management tips. From the articles below, pick at least ONE stress management tip per day for 4 of the 7 days the MC is in effect (more than that might be stressful!! :) And, of course, report the ones you choose (and their affects) here.

(SP article - don't forget to get your 3 points for reading it!)

Let's hear how you do, how you feel, how you manage your time and if you learn anything new! I'm still open to simplifying in every aspect of my life & I have no better teachers than this team!
