Been taking care of sick kids this week. Now I caught it too. Going to use the weekend to get better so definitely will not be meeting this weeks goals. Will begin again Monday, hopefully healthfully. This had made me realize that my goals have veered towards the way too superficial and I buck at that. It's also too tenuous to put all the importance on weighing in. Need to change that motivation or I self-sabotage. Good to remember this.

Day 5:
emoticon

I didn't mean to get on the scale today, I swear! We were using the Wii Fit to do some balance exercises, and since I had never done them before it gave me a starting weight and BMI. It really ticked me off because the number was higher than I would expect. Now I feel like I haven't worked hard enough this week! I know that isn't fair because it's not the same scale, or time of day I weigh in, etc., but I can't unsee the number and it's a tad deflating. I am actually looking forward to not weighing in again until Monday now, so that I can have a few days to use this as a push.

Okay, I broke and weighed myself so as per the rules of this challenge I will be honest and share. emoticon

I think I got on because I wanted to see if the few changes out of the last 3 days had made any difference on the scale. Water, veggies and exercise everyday with no drinking alcohol. Good news, at least for the moment, it was down a little bit. So I guess I got what I wanted in that respect.

But what if it would have given me the opposite effect? Would all of those good choices have been for naught. No, logically I know that but emotionally it's a different story sometimes, isn't it? This is an interesting MC.

So far so good on the goal. Did turbo fire yesterday and will do it again today. It was HARD not to step on the scale this morning. I didn't realize what a habit it had become. Get up, go to the bathroom, step on the scale. But I resisted. Kind of makes me want to do a better job so that when I do weigh in at the end of the week, I am more likely to see a difference. Maybe that's twisted thinking emoticon .

only times I feel like weighing are when I shouldn't.

if I complete the challenge I will treat myself to a frog, not the croaking kind but a clip which you attach to a table at one end and your handbag at the other. it saves having to search on the floor for your bag.

what do you call them?

This is a neat idea. I like the focus. I will have to hide my scale from myself. :)

I will book myself a spa pedicure or facial.

I will do everyday of scheduled Turbofire this week. As well as never having more than one drink at a sitting and only if I REALLY want it.

This is a great challenge for me this week! My TOM is due any day now, so I don't need to be looking at the scale anyways. But this is going to be a real challenge for me because I normally weigh myself daily.
So, I am going to commit to resisting the scale until next Monday! emoticon

I am also going to shoot for my walking & ST goals that I've already set for this week, regardless of how crummy or rushed I feel.

If I meet both of these goals then I get a spa pedicure! If I meet only 1 of the goals, then it's a home pedicure!

I've been struggling with rewards, and not feeling the natural rewards doing it. You know, the pants, to big, NSV's that can keep us going. They just don't come often enough. So my reward will be to schedule a Home Spa day, complete with new candles, face masks etc. OR a pedi on Sunday. It depends on scheduling. My boys are gone for Friday- Sunday, and the Princess birthday on Saturday, which she wants to celebrate on Sunday. My reward will depend on her schedule. or it might have to wait until the weekend of the 30.

Weighing issue is tough.. I donated my scale to the work place biggest loser contest, and am only suppose to weigh Monday mornings with the official scribe. I'll sneak a weigh in tomorrow and post my starting weight.

I LOVE THIS!!! I have to weigh myself tomorrow to know what I'm looking at.

For a reward, this is tough, because we're moving this week. We'll be back in our old house on Saturday morning. What can I give myself for when I get back to Virginia?

I think stickers and maybe some make-up from Target. =)

It's Self-Esteem MC week so let's talk about some self-esteem, shall we? emoticon

We get different and interesting results every time this MC comes up! For some, it's a struggle but for others, it's just what the doctor ordered....see what you think!

The following is most of the post from the 1st time we did this challenge, over years ago now! Wow! At the time, the team was brand new and I was close to my goal weight. I was struggling with making eating well a lifestyle change; trying to see my involvement in SP as more than just a "diet" plan. And, frankly, that is a lot of why I have stayed here on SP.

Once before, I'd quit SP before after hitting goal weight and went right back up there in weight because I went right back to my old bad ways. The following post lays out the MC for this coming up week starting, as always, on Monday:

I've seen a shift in my attitude about..... what motivates me..... recognizing small accomplishments in myself and my choices of reward for doing well. Like food. Let's me honest, most of us are here because we like good food, yes? Well, good food used to motivate me. After starting SP the 2nd time I had even said to myself, "as soon as I reach my goal weight of 129, I am going to reward myself with a gigantic burrito & chips & flan and I will be so happy to get to eat that again!" Hmmm....something wrong with that picture? I couldn't WAIT to get off the "diet" and get back to eating good food. My thought process still was mixed up!

Since, those feelings have changed. In fact, when I reached my weight goal I didn't want that burrito at all! My first thought when I realized I was at the point to reward myself was, "Oh my gosh, that burrito was probably more than 1200 calories in one sitting!!! ...and HOW am I going to log that in to SP? NOT worth it!"

My thought process now is more along the lines of: Do I really want to reward myself with something that will set me back? After I've worked so hard? The answer is a resounding NOOOO!

This weeks MC comes in two parts. The first part will focus on rewards. What types of rewards motivate YOU? Think about it: is it money, or a new outfit, a trip? We had a motivating challenge at the end of the year. It did inspire me. I carry that little picture that we printed & put in the kitchen around in my wallet now so I look at it every time I open the wallet. It's a picture of me, a couple years ago at 119 pounds (too skinny, I know) trying to get some 6 pack abs. I never quite got there but I DO recognize my EFFORT. It was a huge accomplishment to have lost the 50 pounds that picture represents. Anyway.....

Part 1: Post by the end of the day Monday (midnight) something that, should you complete Part 2 of this MC, you will reward yourself with. It could be a trip to the movies, some undisturbed alone time in the bathtub or as 'big' as new diamond necklace; whatever will give you incentive personally. There are two restrictions to choosing your reward:
1) it cannot be a food reward (see above!)
2) it must be a reward for YOU; not your kids, your husband or your dogs....of course, they can be involved, but it cannot be FOR them. For example, I might tend toward buying my dogs a new bed or some goodies as a reward.....not this time, the reward must be for YOU!!!!

So, the point is, post your reward choice by Monday midnight. Once next Sunday rolls around and you have completed Part 2 of the MC, pick something that you WILL reward yourself with and Part 2 won't be a 'gimme', so make it a good one. (smile)

Part 2: Here is where we focus on the EFFORT that we are going to reward ourselves for, rather than the OUTCOME. You know, I had a super great start with Spark People and lost 2 pounds per week pretty consistently there for several months. However, through a series of being sick & some recent hormone imbalances (menop..YIKES!), I've gained 25 pounds back.

Yet, and this is the important part, I still tend to judge my progress solely on the number reflected on the scale. If it doesn't go down, I have to be honest, I get a bit demotivated. That kind of thinking let's me know I still sometimes look at this journey as a 'diet' rather than the lifestyle change I want it to be. Some thoughts are just very hard to get out of the head! SOOOOO, that being said:

Part 2: We agree to not get on the scale a single time during the week this MC is in affect. Rules of engagement are as follows:

1. Log in your 'Start Weight' this morning, as always.
2. After that, we agree not to weigh ourselves for each day this MC is in effect. That means Tues through Sunday, no peeks at the scale!
3. Should you 'break under pressure' and decide to get on the scale, you must post to the group and tell us your feelings about it. In fact, we'd like to hear about it even if you are making the MC....Did it do for you what you thought it would or didn't it? What were your reasons for getting on it?
4. Post throughout the week on your progress, your thoughts & your feelings about this MC.

Hopefully, this weeks 'mental/motivational' MC will help us focus more on the effort we are putting in to what we are doing....becoming healthier people, living a better lifestyle....than the outcome of just numbers on a scale. Feel free to post how you feel about what I've written, about the challenge, how it applies in your life, etc....I want to hear from you. YOU are what keep me motivated!

Hugs ya'll,

L.
