Hi SandySew and welcome!

Metformin actually compliments weight loss and also helps to reduce fatty liver problems.

You might want to begin by reading about smart weight-loss here on SparkPeople. Check out the many articles and choose those that interest you.

Best start is to estimate your resting metabolism, figure out how much exercise you get daily, then subtract 500 calories from that figure as an estimated daily calorie goal, plus or minus 150 calories.

Keep a food journal to track your nutrition daily. Write everything down. And learn. About yourself. About your own unique needs.

For we diabetics and pre-diabetics, it's always best to check with our doctors before choosing a weight loss/exercise regimen. Make sure you drink enough water to support your effort. Be sure you get enough calories protein, fat and carbohydrate to keep your blood sugar even and your body functioning optimally.

Good luck to you. Give this your best and best-informed shot! You can do this!

All things are possible.

I have been on Metformin for about 8-10 yrs. I have not really had any side affects that I know of. My being tire a lot was going on before I was ever diagnosed as pre-diabetic or before I ever became pre-diabetic.

I was wantintg to know though, how many in here get off of medications due to diet change and weight loss? I see some get reduced dose in here but just want to know how many get off all the diabetic meds?

I need to loose weight and change my diet and am trying but carbs call out to me all day long! Today so far has been better as I have only had one mug of sweetened hot tea and a bowl of veggies that are cooked.
