I read the article and have been doing some of these things since getting back on trac 4 months ago. I'm working a seasonal job so I've had to do a lot of prep to take my lunch and get in exercise. I take a rest day when needed and don't beat up on myself but get back on track the next ay. I also eat out with friends sometimes and try to each as healthy as possible but preapre my meals the rest of the week. good article!!

When I have an off day, I will take time for personal reflection and indentify the things I could better control for the next time. In that same train of thought, when I have a good day, I will reflect on the things I did RIGHT and that made a difference - and maybe even give myself a little pat on the back!

Key for me in this article is the reminer to GET UP AND MOVE - I know it works every time!!

And the greatest reward of any that I can give myself is this: A "shift in energy, focus, confidence, and overall commitment to [my] healthy lifestyle".

Read the article and it was a great reminder. I started my journey again about a month ago by gradually starting to work out again. I set a goal of doing 15 mins 6 days a week and will gradually increase it until I'm back to 45 mins. I also started by making a goal of tracking of my food. this week I changed that goal to stay w/i my calorie range by tracking my food. I liked the suggestions on reducing the amount of processed foods. emoticon emoticon together.

Good article. It is easy to make big goals and then give up. Smaller steps toward a larger goal gives us something to check off...feel like we have accomplished something.
My motivation poster has a weight chart for every 20 pounds. I have changed it out twice, which gave me a sense of accomplishment. I should celebrate every 5 or 10.
I have a big goal for this next week - going through all my clothes and preparing all my larger clothes for donation. I will only keep what I can now wear and the few things that I am not in yet. I can break it down to a closet one day, a couple drawers the next, etc. Instead of stressing about the larger goal of closet and drawer organization, I can break it down to smaller goals.

Join some of the walk challenges and make a goal of how much you want to walk and log it in every day. That keeps me motivated. See if there are any walking clubs in your area. Our county has some and they are free. I've done all of this and I've found I just like to put on my headphones and go when I want to. emoticon emoticon together emoticon

I read the article and I agree with much of it.

My biggest problem, really, is that I have no one physically in my life that is supportive of me. Online friends are great, but most everyone I know is busy with their own problems and lives.

I live with my mother who is not disabled at all, but all she cares to do is sit on her butt and smoke and listen to/watch the same episodes of Travel Channel shows she's seen a million times. Any attempt to invite her to go on walks or exercise with me is met with a snarl.

So, I'm basically alone in this. It feels overwhelming.

I think I'm going to start an actual journal so it feels like I have 'someone' there with me to encourage me.

I'll also start listing my reasons 'why'. I'm sure I can think of a few.

Very interesting article so thank you for sharing it. My biggest thing I need to work on is truly recording what I eat and watching the portions. So I want to stay a ne challenge for me but I want to start it for June 1 to June 30 of tracking my food

This was a good article and a great reminder. I did set 2 small goals about 2 weeks ago now of exercising at least once a day for 15 mins or more and tracking my food. This helped me to get back on track because I track it in 7 Day Develop or Get Rid of a habit and I just started tracking it in the Spark Challenges about a week ago. This keeps me motivated. I am doing this to keep my cholesterol, blood sugar and hypertension down.

Oh yes!! Nothing "new" in this article, but so much that I have let slide on by in my journey. So back I go to re-visiting those January goals, back to the specifics of how to get there, starting again with some baby steps that I can accomplish and feel good about (and reward myself for!), stay connected with my community - I am so thankful for the 4-5 great SP teammates that cheer me on, and lift me up when I fall. I can't wait til spring comes - and stays - the outdoor work is what I love - but until then, I need to be doing something more physical, and I have plenty of DVD's to use or YouTube is a friend! I have the weights, just need to be using them more. Much, much, much I can do. Thanks for the article and the reality check that it provided!!

And Martha, YES, get that sleep - it makes so much difference, more than we realize when we're skipping it!

I have adjusted my goals as I have been losing weight. I like the mini goals that this team sets (Easter and Memorial Day goals).
I have a great cheerleader in my husband. I also have an accountability partner with a good friend of mine who is also on a weight loss journey. She and I are encouraging one another daily.

Read the article 11 Surprising Mistakes Stalling Your Weight Loss. When I'm on a roll with working out, I do workout everyday but I switch up doing cardio and strength training and reduce the length of time i exercise on some days. I have to work on getting 7-8 hrs sleep when I'm working my seasonal jobs. I'm a late night person and I have to work on getting to bed at a reasonable hour. Good article.

In 11 surprising mistakes the one thing that stood out to me is the mistake of exercising too much. I almost feel guilty if I give myself a rest day. But we have to take one now and then. In the new 30 day DVD I bought Leslie instructs that weight training needs to have a rest day in between - not to overwork muscle groups. She has two exercise sessions. You alternate between cardio and strength training. I have also learned the importance of mixing things up...not doing the same thing over and over. You get better results when you change your routine so you work different muscles.

I pretty much knew most of what was said in the article. You don't have to do hour long workouts for it to count. You can do several shorter ones and get the 150 minutes in. I am trying for 30 minutes 5 days a week and 15 two days. If all I can manage is 10, it is better than nothing. I read the 13 question interview with Leslie Sansone and she has a DVD that incorporates HIIT Walking. It is for advanced walkers. I have been trying to add intervals when I walk outside or when I am biking.

Good article. My umbrella has many times been in bad shape, but I have repaired it pretty well. I am getting pretty good sleep. I am eating right, exercising, and stress is not high. I enjoy me time every morning. I love my me time!
Things I need to work on - de-clutter my workspace and home. It will give me more peace.
I already eat light and often. That works well for me, but I need to step away from my desk at lunch.
I am journaling and reading during my me time. I want to add more visual journaling (drawing).
I want more of my days to have a full 30 minutes of exercise. But I won't beat myself up if I can only manage 10

I read the tips from dietitians. I do most of them already.
I am just about done going through the 100 days of weight loss book by Linda Spangle. I learned to recognize my hunger scale. The all foods fit idea is something I understand. Moderation is the key. The 100 days lesson gave me the "two bite rule" for treats. I am trying several NEAT behaviors like parking farther away and I am counting my steps with a pedometer. Another 100 lesson was about kicking the perfection habit.
The one that was new to me was the "quit the cardio addiction" part. I know cardio is important, but I am not doing enough strength training. I also need to do a little more reorganization of my kitchen.

emoticon emoticon emoticon I understand what you're saying and I agree. Below is an example of a long term goal of mine broken into baby steps from 2017. It was good to revisit because I've gotten off track. I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things.

Example:
Steps to Long Term Goals - 10/27/16-10-/27/17
Friday, October 28, 2016
My long term goals for the next year are:
1. Reach goal weight (lost 29 lbs)
-continue walking for 30 min or more 7 days a week emoticon
-when the weather changes, walk away the pounds 2 -3 miles dvds for 7 days a week

I have made my goals much smaller this year, so much smaller that it will be a greater shame to me if I don't achieve them!! Forget how many times you may have read this from me before, but i truly want this year to be the year - not that I achieve great results that will make the world go "wow"! - but the year that I will remember as the year that I got serious about changing my life, and developed the small habits that if lived consistently will make those changes happen. Very simply, my goal for the year is to BEGIN, but to begin well and to begin consistently. My goals deal with the very basics: Drink 64+ ounces of water a day, eat smaller portions, eat an apple a day, the biggest goal I have is to lose 1/2 pound per week. That's right - only 1/2 pound / week!!! [other goals have to do with home organization, family priorities, etc.] I have other bigger goals in the back of my mind, but I'm not even writing them down until I reach that state of consistency with the beginner goals, otherwise I'll go back to that sense of discouragement if I don't see the "bigger" results as quickly as I'd hope for. Does that make sense to anyone reading this??

I could relate to the article. I break my goals into little baby steps and that keeps me motivated because it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I complete the baby step. emoticon

Read the article,Ion't get up a night to eat (except eat lozenges when I get up to go to bathroom) but I'm a late night person, so sleep in late. I eat my dinner late and usually have snack even later. I'm going to try the banana ad having more healthy snacks.
