Well I make a corn pudding that some people think is essential. One year I didn't make it and my 10 year old granddaughter was horrified. She said, "Grandma you need to give me that recipe." I replied that she could of course have it and it was so easy she could make it herself. Her reply was a classic...."Grandma, I don't cook for other people; other people cook for me and Grandma T will make sure I have it on Thanksgiving!" (her other grandma!) Well we old folks sure laughted at that! Guess what? Kelsey now brings the corn pudding to our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

Apart from that story, I'm with Vicki - love that cranberry sauce, and even more with leftovers!

When I reached 60 I started "needing" a sweet bite after my evening meal, Dessert was a rare thing before that, only holidays or events. Now even if it's a few raisins, I need a sweet and don't rest til I get one (been known to nurse a tsp of honey!)

For Thanksgiving we always have a turkey BBQ'd on the Webber grill, frees up the kitchen and gets everyone outside. We almost didn't this year but the landlord gave us extra time due to the holiday before we vacate.

One of the good things my sister did for me/influenced me in was to quit using salt - this was back in the 70's!!!! She was on some crazy wacko diet but one of the things it emphasized was reducing sodium. She just stopped using it in recipes, adding to foods on plate, etc, and so did I (I didn't do the wacko diet though - ha!). I don't keep track of my sodium because I don't use it/add it to anything ... if I buy canned I try to get low sodium but regardless I rinse the canned veggie and drain (this removes a lot of residual sodium the veggie has not "absorbed"), and if I notice on a label something is high in sodium I won't buy. Once you quit using it, like everything else, your taste buds will adjust and you won't miss it. And your body will be so happy! emoticon

How much sodium do you allow yourself daily?

I have it set up for 500-2500 grams daily but would love to get and stay under 500 grams daily. Because of high blood pressure and fluid retention, I need to keep my sodium as low as possible but rarely manage to keep it under 2000 grams.

I never have. My mom tried all of them and watching her proved they didn't work, She indeed would lose weight but upon resuming her normal eating, go even higher. Then my sister was 300+ and I watched her struggles. That scared me, the health problems resulting from her weight. Watching her kept me from exceeding 200 'cept for one time I did get to 210 or so. All I'd do to diet is live on Lean Cuisine- which starts to all taste the same! (and never lasted long!)

I did do a Keto diet under Dr. supervision for low blood sugar problems- it worked for losing weight and stablized my blood levels but I only followed it about 2 months. (I need my potatoes!!!)

So what finally worked for me was getting kidney disease diagnosis and being told what my life expectancy was, the dialysis looming in front of me. I eat very specifically now, low sodium. Since it's my life on the line, I seldom cheat.

I tried Bright Line Eating (last August started it) which was new to me and not well known on the market back then ... glad I did because it helped knock off 35-40 lbs. and I still am using some of the "principles" of that plan. Do not "think" I'll be trying any new diets coming down the pike (and they always are) because I've combined/created/come up with what works for me AND I can live with on an ongoing basis the rest of my life.

Trying again another day.

As for waxing floors, 33 years ago I kept the wood floors nicely waxed, but then my MIL fell due to the slickness and I never heard the end of it. Took the joy out of it. We moved to a house fully carpeted, even the bathrooms, ugh, more of a chore. I liked waxing, so pretty.

As for single food meals, a couple times a summer I will just eat corn on the cob for supper and in the winter, baked potatoes but to each of these I do add butter. Is it still a single food?

I used to wax my floors decades ago - loved to see shiny floors too but in this place? There's barely enough floor to wet mop ... there is a small stretch of carpet which I CANNOT wait for Bill to rip out of here and install the tile that's been in storage forever now it seems - ha! He has his "priority list" of projects and unfortunately replacing the carpet is way down the list. Anyway, my waxing floors days are long gone...

OOPS! I must have been posting my last answer when Vicki was posting the new question!!!

Nope, no floor waxing going on here! My only hard floors are in my bathrooms and laundry room and they have a matte finish so no need to wax. Even my kitchen is carpeted due to my arthritis and the fact that our home is on a cement slab that gets icy cold in the winter. My carpet cleaner would probably say I am one of his best customers even though I'm very careful in the kitchen. I do love shiny floors though.

Gosh Vicki, my answer is much different today than it would have been 30 or 40 years ago. I used to verbally beat myself. I wanted to be Super Woman....perfect Mom, perfect wife, best employee ever, perfect Christian....I never felt like I was really meeting the challenges in any of my roles in life. Thankfully I've grown a lot and one thing I learned was how to forgive.....I'm so glad I learned to forgive myself and others for not being perfect.

So, the answer today is NO - I am not hard on myself, I do not give myself negative messages anymore and I refuse to shy away from something just because I cannot do it as perfectly as I would like. I'm reminded of the Amish and quilters from colonial days who used to deliberately put an error in their quilts to remind themselves and others that only God is perfect.

That being said.....sometimes I do sigh over the items on my to do list that never get done. Just a sigh though, no more than that. The list will be there tomorrow, next week, or whenever.

What are your Oct. goals?

Mine are to get more mobility in my wrist since breaking it 2 months ago. Little by little I can use it more. But it'll need the soft brace for awhile yet.

No, since I don't work, one day is pretty much like the next. If I had to say one though, it'd probably be Saturday cause I can watch westerns all day if I feel like it.

No don't sunbathe . Can't tolerate too much Sun .


Vicki I use Oil of Olay facial cream everday. I also try to remember to put on some body lotion after a shower. In winter use hand cream because cold temperatures dry out my hands.

No not since the late '70s, otherwise I grew up on Coronado, almost an island a little over a mile square, so most my days were spent at the beach or on the bay or at the public olympic size pool on the Strand (which connected us to the mainland).

In the Summer time, do you lay out in the sun to tan?

I used to - faithfully ... now not so much ... but I sometimes do after shower or bath. And this year - we seem to have a surge in "bugs/mosquitos", etc. so now I'm trying to remember to put on Avon's Skin So Soft (original formula is the one I like) for my "pest control". I use the body oil. Some people claim it's not really effective for that ... but I forgot it this morning and had proof it works for me here - ha! Previous mornings I used it - no pests! SO I get a 2-for-1 - nourish my skin and keep the bugs away.

Yes I use creams/lotions daily and often thru the day, my skin feels thirsty and irritable without it, hot and cold weather. We tend to often have low humidity in SoCal. My niece in North Carolina says I'm a dry roasted peanut while she is a boiled peanut, she told me that years ago and I still get a laugh from it.

I do on my feet. Especially in the summer when I wear sandals, I get split heals that hurt if I don't keep lotion on them.

Oh, baths for sure! Only we do not have one emoticon . I love bubble baths with scented oils...and a book to read while soaking.

Showers at home, baths if at a nice hotel that has deep tubs. I love baths but ours is tiny and gets cold too fast plus we live in drought country so a bath is wasteful they tell us, especially a deep bath like I want.
