I'm sorry about your dog? Is it the black little dog on your page? What breed was it?

My "Crazy" came from my daughter, she would say to my 3 gdkids, when I was being silly or "crazy", "Grandma is crazy!" In fun and love.

That's how it started out -- about my dog (who sadly, passed away on the 21st). But it IS me too! LOL

Keep that determination. Keep that focus on HEALTH. The rest will follow.

Ah yes, fellow crazy!!!

Hang in there. As the metformin brings down your sugars, you'll feel better. I had a knee replacement in 2010 and my other knee needs it, too, BUT sinc emy blood sugars are controlled, the pain is much less. HUGS and hang in there.

ILARIAMARCUCCI That's what I tried. I do, do water aerobics, they have tappered off because of being sick. I guess I should say River Walk at Kroc Center, not water aerobics.

!CRAZYDOG Whats funny is my license plates say CRAZGMA! We are kindred crazys! I do hope to get off Metformin too. I had pretty much given up most white flour, sugar foods and processed foods. Now no fast food, which I guess is processed food? I haven't had sugar in about 5 days, And exercise is a long story, everytime I try to rescue I feel sick a few days later I feel sick, it's not that I haven't exercised, I always have off and on. I like to exercise, but gradually I have tapered of because I miss to much work.

I had did 6 mins of walking out side for 2 days and then 3rd day did upper body chair exercise and now I have missed 2 days of work, I feel awful, a lot of pain, not muscle pain. It's just complicated. I have bad knees, suppose to do non weight bearing exercise, trouble with breathing, wheezing, diabetes of course, overweight of course. Right now I am in the process of getting diabetes under control, have a PFT soon, had a few other test.Just want to feel better and be able to exercise. I use to do bodypump, walk a lot, hike a mountain here and 5 yrs ago it changed

Thank you for the encouragement!

I agree w/you about having the goal being to get off Metformin. I was able to get off after 16 mths. I really revamped my diet ( only complex carbs, healthy fats, and proteins.)

getting rid of the refined sugar, white flour, white bread, white rice, white potato and all processed foods helped a lot.

I started out w/10 min. of exercise a day and increased as I got stronger.

The combo of proper nutrition and exercise was the ticket for me.

I did forget to mention I have been taking Metformin since I was prediabetic. But it so much more than that! I want to take care of myself, just don't know how? I missed work yesterday and this morning I feel terrible! Lets keep in touch!

Here's what I have learned. Keeping your carbs in check will help wit the dry mouth and your sugar levels. I was told 135 grams of carbs a day is ideal. It will also help keep your sugars low so you don't have to pee all the time. Carbs are in everything so it's hard, but the sparkpeople app has helped me track. I have stopped eating a lot of things that aren't good for me or not ideal like pasta, potatoes, and rice for the most part. There are some good food options. This is the website my doctor gave me about food.
http://www.diabetes.org/food-and-fitness
/food/what-can-i-eat/
It's also a good resource for learning about it. Everyone is in a different place with this disease. I'm finally getting it under control and feeling good, with a lot of energy I didn't have before. My symptoms were thirst, fatigue-used to sleep 16 hrs and would feel like I hadn't slept at all. I also have neuropathy and kidney disease from not taking care of it right away. I found that regular metformin made me have diarrhea, so it wasn't until I was put on the extended release I started taking it regularly with my insulin because it didn't give me any side effects. In women can also give you yeast infections. It's important to take care of it now so you don't have to worry so much. Blood sugar meters also really help. I only test 1 x a day even though they say I should test more.

Hi I am a heart patient & now found out I'm diabetic. Just started on medication for it. Concerned and worried . Not sure what can & can't eat. I love carbs and have cut most out. Any help is appreciated. I plan to take a class as well.

Hi I just joined. I been have pretty frustrated, I haven't been feeling good for a couple years, more so this year. At first they said I was prediabetic, about 6 months ago and was never given any instruction about what to do? My last doctor visit I really stressed that I need to take a class or something, I want to feel better. The doctor did set me up with some classes in September. I was reading up on it and realized how many of the symptoms I have!

Sweating(almost always) back of neck, hairline.

Nervousness, shakiness, weakness

Slight nausea, dizziness, headache

Blurred vision, feeling anxious

Inability to concentrate. Confusion

Slurred speech (it was more like at work, on phones, felt tense and hard to get words out)

Unsteadiness when standing or walking (I've tripped and fell on knees several Xs this year)

Muscle twitching

Increased thirst.

Fatigue (weak,tired feeling)

Pins and needles

Sleeplessness

Ketoacidosis - Shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, very dry mouth

I know I eat way to many carbs, I can't wait to know what to do. It seems the more I read, the more confused I get.
