Just FYI ... I went ahead and started the medication. My first day was kind of wacky! I took it, didn't take the pill it was supposed to replace then took my other meds as directed. My BS fell so low (40 was the lowest it got) that I got shaky and sweaty. I ran out of calories in the day and ended up going over just to keep my sugars from bottoming out. The second day I switched some meds around and think I found a good combination. If the first few days are any indication, I will be able to eliminate one medication and half another.

So far, so good! The "loss of appetite" side effect seems to be accurate for me. I get full faster and I don't have the urge to snack as often. Of course that is during the busy week. I'll see how it goes on the weekend when my days are my own!

My doctor wants to switch me from one of my meds to Trulicity. It is a name brand, no generic available, so it is $200 with insurance for a 3-month supply. I have a coupon card that says I could only pay $25 a month (though I would have to pay $50 due to my insurance costs) but I have to go through Express Scripts for my meds and they do not take the coupon cards. I have a two week sample so I don't have to buy the med right away but at $200, more than 4 times what I pay for the prescription I'm on now, I'm not sure if I can/should try it.

I even thought about just going outside my insurance to pay for it thinking I would still pay less with the coupon card but they only pay "up to $150" so that won't work. Without insurance the 3 month total would be $6,300!!!

The benefits for me - as told to me by my doctor - are weight loss (the pill I'm on now promotes weight gain), stabilized numbers, one-week dose. It is a shot so that is a bit of a drawback, but to me the promotion of weight loss alone is almost worth it being in shot form.

So my question is - does anyone take it? Or have had experience with it?
