Welcome! It is indeed a disease that must be taken seriously, and good for you for gettting in the driver's seat. I personally don't go ultra low carb as I feel it impedes the performance of my brain and makes intense workouts difficult to tolerate. I've experimented with different levels and different kinds of carbs and kept track of how my body responds, and come to my own conclusions about what works for me (in consultation with my diabetes educator who is a very reasonable person). Everyone's needs are different, and everyone's body responds differently, so you need to figure out what works for you. Regarding exercise, I don't have a specific suggestion, but you might want to browse the exercise videos available at your local library. There might be one worth trying that won't aggravate your foot. Or find a free one online. YouTube has a huge collection.

Thanks for reply. Sorry about your friend and not ending up as that is truly what motivates me. Took me forever to find my post again to see if any responses lol. I have been looking all over this great site. I already do resistance bands but not aerobically. I'll look for stuff on it and see what I can do. Also trying some low impact stuff. I was just seeing results with the treadmill and now feel stalled.

The carb thing still has me perplexed :) Working on it.

Thanks others for reply as well.

Hi and emoticon I personally I would listen in the beginning to their reasoning. Later when you have learnt enough to think about changing just use your own judgment and listed to your body.
We are told the brain runs on Carbohydrate so I do not go low .
Read as much as you can and be sure to question the educators and these great people who will tell you what they can.

The best exercise I have done is the seated 20 minute resistance bands .
There is usually a challenge and the coach used that exercise.
RESISTANCE bands are low in price at Walmart ,target etc.
Check out the resistance band work out using the spark search. emoticon emoticon

emoticon Glad you are back on track. Please listen to your doctor and take diabetes seriously. I met a good friend here on Spark. We emailed and talked on the phone and became a diabetic buddy. She exercised and ate right. She passed away 3 weeks ago died in her sleep. Heart disease , diabetes, and not using her CPAP machine. I really miss her. She was 61 left way too early.

Most of know what the diabetes educators teach as far as carbs But you do have to see what works for you. Our bodies are all different. What works for one does not necessarily work for another.

This is a great team and we all try to help each other.

Welcome. I personally do not get near that amt. of carbs daily, but it's all a matter of what works with your body!

Wishing you luck.

Not sure if I am posting this to the appropriate forum or not but....

Great Place. I was searching for exercise videos and found this. I was diagnosed with type 2 in 2012 and silly me did not do any thing about it. Well past the regrets now of my stupidity but better late then never I guess. My Dr. told me recently I was a heart attack or stroke waiting to happen. Wake up call:) Signed up for diabetes management classes and boy did they get me motivated.

In my 30's and 40's I was big into physical fitness and life occurrences and some injuries just put an end to it all and I gained around 50 pounds since. I have found this 55 year old lethargic body can not do what it use to but am trying. About a month into it now. Lost 5 pounds so far. This site is awesome. I was already tracking my BG/ diet/ and fitness for my diabetes classes but this will help me to continue it.

Unfortunately, shortly into starting working out on treadmill (and remembering how good it felt to move:), I injured my foot (the old body can't preform as it did 15 years ago duh) I am seeking other aerobic ways off my feet to keep it going with out purchasing equipment. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The good news is through the exercise I did get in and diet my blood glucose is wayyy down. Yesterday morning I tested twice as it was 87! I just want to keep the exercise going.

I also get a bit confused about carbs. I see diabetics suggesting and doing ultra low carb a lot on line and even here. My medical diabetes management dietitian and nurse say I must have at the very minimum 110 g per day they prefer 130. It just seems counter intuitive. Wondering what others think or have been told.

Thanks
Jeanie
