The lower the carbs the better. Get most of your carbs from veggies, maybe one serving of fruit/day. The low-carb team on Spark is very supportive to help people how to do it.
I suggest eliminating all grains, legumes, high-starch items (tapioca, potato etc.)
My A1c is now normal after gradually reducing carb levels and I'm not on meds or insulin. If you lower carbs check your blood sugar often as you may have to lower your meds quickly. Stay in close contact with your doctor as well.

Yup -- definitely cut out the whites and processed foods. Too high in simple carbs.

If you have not already. cut out all white products. White flour, rice, pasta, bread. If you really want to get your A1c down, you need to go low carb. This means no bread, pasta, starchy vegetables, etc. ADA says 45 g of carbs per meal and 15-30 for snacks. This is too high for most diabetics. Check out the Sparking Low Carb team.

Hello, since I just joined again, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to learn different ways to get my A1C down. At the last check up in Sept it was 8.2. I go back in January for a retest. Currently on Metformin and Glimepiride and want to stay away from Insulin if I can. Looking forward to hearing from others.
