On a conversion factor -- multiply the Canadian readings by 18 to get the American equivalent.

That means a 5.5 (doesn't matter if it is fasting, pre meal or post meal) equates to 99 American.

However, Canadian A1C's are measured the same way as the American. There is no difference there....

I hope this helps.

So sorry, I was told that by a Canadian, I apologies for the mistakes.
My range is from 80 to 120 so my FBS is in range. I like it to be in the middle at 95 to 105.

That really helps me to know where I am.

I did not know that when they are posted they are still FBS but not A1c.
I am still confused but now I am not concerned. I thought you always knew your A1c. I do appreciate the information. Pat in Maine USA.
PS it is great when you know you can eat well and stay in range. I was diagnosed at 8.4 I found spark and I was 5.2 last time/

How do Canadians (I am Canadian) know our A1C by the day? We just measure in mmol rather than MG, but doesn't mean we know it by the day. It still has to be calculated over a period of three months to get our a1c.

As for my a1c I went from 6.9 to 6.2 and was taken off my gliclazide

Woot woot!

I like the way the Canadians are able to always know there A1c by the day. In US we have the daily fbs numbers.
Using the numbers every day we break down the numbers to a very definite number.
Advantage is we have more finite control but alas we have to wait three months.to find out just where it is.
I wonder if any of the companies make a conversion chart. I know one is on the internet but I would love to have it done for us . I will talk to Accuchek about that. I would like to know my FBS 91 or 101 and what that means in terms of A1c.Pat in Maine.
