James,

Do you look at sugar content. I think we might have chatted about that once before on another thread. Forgive me I just can't remember. I've been keep my choices on sugar content fairly low, around 5 - 7 or so. For example, carb level on a Chobani Yogurt which I love, is about 19 carbs, but the sugar level is 15. It seems to raise my blood sugar. Where strawberries are only a 7 and around 12 carbs.

Purely from a Blood sugar level I find the higher sugar level spike my sugar. I am through trial and error trying to find the cut off point in my carbs, of where I am successful at losing weight and keeping my sugars in control. I keep journal what works and doesn't work for me, but I wondered any feedback from you or group.

JUMIORSISTER ~ "Failing to Plan ~ is Planing to Fail"

Good job planning ahead!
Yesterday I knew we would be enjoying Spaghetti Night at my husband's Amer.Legion Post, so lunch was Salad, low carb.

It is the only smart way to do this!

If it's to be, It's up to ME!

JUNIORSISTER,
Plan ahead! Good work. I often search for the online menu of a place before I go there.

Then I research the calories carbs of protein, fat, carbs ahead of time and pretty much make my decision before leaving the house.

That is a great idea to have several ideas for what to get and have them listed on cards like that. I noticed a small file box in the other room and think it would be ideal to put cards like that in under which restaurants I would like to go to. Thanks for mentioning it.

Way to go. It's nice not to get blindsided and not know where to go from there. Glad you enjoyed it....

Yes, when I have to eat out I do my research as well. It is so worth the time it takes.

Well I'm glad I looked over the menu before I went, and kind of had a plan B in my head. Not to long ago, a fellow spark member said, she made up cards, for local places she like to eat, and put 3 go to options on each card. So if she went there, she already had an option planned out.
I kept that in mind, and did just that. I picked 1-2-3. Unfortunately even though a NY Strip Steak was on the online menu, my local Applebee's did not have it. So I went with my next option. I wasn't flipped out, because I already had a plan b prepared.

Plan B, and probably the better option over all turned out to be.

9 oz House Sirlion

330 Calories
17 Fat
1030 Sodium
1 Carb

With Steamed Broccoli.

I had about 4 wings, with no breading, so sauces just the chicken.

We enjoyed our meal out and I left feeling satisfied that we ate a meal out and it didn't throw my program out the window. Really pleased.

I know salads can be problematic but ordered right can be a satisfying way to fill up. Looks to me like either one would be a good choice.

ENJOY!

That sounds good. I think that checking menus before going out is a good idea. Of course, I always forget.

Mmmmm..... Steak and Salad. That's one of my go to foods when I have to eat out. Good choice. Easy on the blood sugars and often plenty to take home for another meal.

I want my food plan to work with my life style, not against. Trying to make good choices while eating out has been a struggle. I don't want to stop eating out. I certainly have limited it. But I don't want to stop it. That's my life. At this point I probably eat out twice a month. I don't eat appetizers or desserts. I usually eat out for Breakfast and Lunch meals that keeps me in check for the rest of the day.

I'm finally learning how to look up the menus before going. For Father's Day, I will be going with my Stepfather to Applebee's, I have actually looked up the menu and found choices that will be good for me. Added them to my tracker and looked at what I would have left for the rest of the day. It works.

I think I will go with a Steak and a Salad. I don't eat a lot of red meat, and usually save that choice for when I eat out. This choice will keep me within my Carb and Calorie range for the day. I could exchange the salad for veggies, but in planning out my day I think I would like to keep it.

12 oz Strip Steak 480 Calories
25 Fat
1 Carb

I could swap out for grilled veggies, still thinking on this one.

Strawberry and Avocado Salad
240 Calories
12 Fat
14 Carbs
5 Fiber

Edited to add the Fiber on the salad choice
