Yes you do sound like you are doing much better and more in control. You are doing better at eating than me. I don't really like to cook, but when I get in the mood, then I do. Today, since we off work as we had a major snow storm, I am fixing soup in the crockpot. I fixed stuffed green peppers on Sunday. I froze those and will be freezing some of the soup too. I am surprised that I have lost 12 lbs already, so I am happy with that. I am doing better at cutting back the carbs, but still need to cut back more.

It sounds like you are doing a lot better, Healthnut.

I try a lot of the recipes at sparkrecipes.com (I think it is under the articles section) for a change of pace to my food. If there is something I can't have I end up leaving it out. I also read the comments because people will tell of substitutions they make to suit both their tastes and diet restrictions. Yesterday I stopped at the store to get a couple ingredients for one that is in there that sounded good that I didn't have. I also have a lot of spices to use. I have 3 different places for them because none of those places has enough room for all of them. Of course, in my case it might be just one recipe that uses a couple of them which is why there are so many. But it does make eating less boring than if a person has just plain chicken all the time or something like that.

Well I wouldn't know what to do with the information the meter would read ..

probably panick -- much calmer now - as opposed to in january - when i got the "news"

i am down now 13 lbs !
read up on vegetarian meals - I don't think that is going happen - be very challenging .. to stick with that ... type of menus ... maybe now and then eat a meatless meal -- but I can't see cutting chicken, fish, turkey, dairy products, out of my meal planning
I never eat pork or any pork products - that being said - we had office breakfast on tuesday - and I did partake in 2 slices of bacon -- however, I never go out of my way to purchase pork -- and as far as red meat is concerned - I never buy it -- yes - i did have a strong desire for a burger friday -- but that is the first time since before january I had red meat --

now i have gone to taco bell and had 2 soft bean tacos actually those are pretty filling -

I do enjoy the odd tofu dish, and eggplant - so I am experimenting with different types of food choices --
O I have set up my herbs and spice rack -- usually go to sage, poultry, onion powder, garlic powder, ground peppercorns, cinnamon, ginger (for veggies with olive oil), tumeric (i love that spice, basil and paprika (for egg whites, tofu) thyme, rosemary,
i may have missed a couple - but those are among my favorites -- no salt --
my mother had a concoction she made similar to mrs dash -- for a substitute for salt --
i need to find those ingredients .. it was really good -

sunday i made my meals for week -- slow cooked one of those full chickens with spices for $12 from walmart - then i portioned it out into 3 oz portions -- cooked up yams .. and portioned that out - put them into freezer bags for meals got about 7 packages -
then i did the same with salmon -- i cooked it all up along with a pot of cauliflower and peas - portioned that out -- into serving portions -- and i got about anorther 5 meals

since i got rid of microwave - I do not even miss it --- as long as i take my freezer meals out the day before and let them defrost in fridge - so by evening get home pop them into a non stick pan - pressto dinner ready in about 10 to 20 min while i make my fresh garden salad --

and I KNOW exactly what I am eating... portion sizes etc.

i no longer panic what do i eat!! --- i feel much better in control than I ever have ....

Now to get back onto my wiifit --- lunch today i must go for 15 min walk in mall --
office tower I work in -- is actually a mall as well - wander around to the stores --

you wont' believe how much money i saved by not buying lunches at the food court in the mall - or buying a morning snack on way to office -- its insane - what was I thinking? obviously I wasn't

it's all good -- just hope my AIC is lower come april late april when i do tests ---

when the SNOW is gone - gotta to get bike tuned up and go cycling -- i used to years ago gof cycling right after work and i can start walking home -- part way --

i love my 50 50 salad greens -- and i like vinegars .. i had pomegrante, blueberry, fig, cherry at this fancy vinegar store in mall -- if you bring back your bottle you only pay for the vinegar -- good deal.. really ---
i want to start cooking with grapeseed oil ...

A meter only helps if you know what to do with the information. You may not need one.

Good job with throwing out 1/2 the bun. You tried. I sometimes eat a smallnportion of what I want with a big salad.

I am concerned that you feel your food is boring. I encourage you to learn about herbs and spices. Look up recipes to make the food interesting.

I like salad with a good dressing, a bit of meat and cheese with a small bit of sunflower seeds for extras crunch. I am starting g to make my own dressings.

Bottom bun is more than enough to spike your blood sugar. It only takes a single bite of a role in a restaurant to spike my blood sugar. The fact that you got so hungry is proof you would benefit from a meter.

Seems to be a week of it. We stopped at Chinese on our way home Wednesday and it started me on the hungries. This morning I started out with an omelet, so maybe things willl settle down again. Did not add any carbs except for what was in the little bit of milk and cheese I added and I had less cheese than usual.

I don't think it would have been the burger that caused hunger, either. The protein usually stays with a person longer, but carbs you will get hungry faster in my experience. Every time I eat many carbs, except potatoes for some reason, I get hungry in a very short time.

I found eating out at many places you can ask for things to your special order (though not where we went Wednesday, which was different than my usual Chinese place). Wendy's will put your burger on lettuce and keep their bun if you ask them. I did that when I was out and would not be home for several hours one day. Next time I will ask them to hold the salt, too, if it is put on while they are cooking.

I think that is what happened to me this past week. Last Saturday, I had pizza and pop, Tues was Fat Tuesday and potluck at work. Ate way to much that day....things just kept rolling....and it showed in my sugar levels and gained a pound.

I agree...I don't think it was the burger but it was the bread.
Since you haven't eaten it for so long, it probably raised your Blood Sugar (BS) and then crashed.
Just remember to eat protein with every meal/snack. It really helps curb the hunger.

Those starchy carbs (bread) will really kick in the hunger. If you had a meter, you could have seen why. You probably hit a pretty high blood sugar followed by a crash. The crash is when your hunger kicked in.
