I'd also like to see multiple "uncategorized" sections. If my blood sugar crashes I have to eat and retest, and there's no place to put it. AND, if they would go in order as I test them. LIke, between my morning snack and lunch, it would show up there where it happened, instead of at the end!

I think it would be great if there was a blood glucose category for pre and post exercise. As a type 1 diabetic I am always checking my sugars before and after I exercise and dont have a place to really categorize it. And since food and blood sugars go together so well it might be useful to actually have the blood glucose tracker mixed in with the meals.
I am so glad that the bg tracker was thought of. It is very useful.

I.M.MAGIC - You should be able to select any meal or snack (right above the calendar in the pop up box to select the day you want to copy the meal to. It will say "copy to this meal" and select the same meal you ate it but there should be an arrow and drop down box to select a different one. Are you seeing that?

SP, you're doing a great job, and I am very appreciative, but... I have another question for the tech folks...

I absolutely love the 'copy' function, enabling me to move a whole meal from one day to another... is there any way to make it so we can move it to a different MEAL?

I often have dinner leftovers for breakfast or lunch the following day, and the only way to move a meal is from dinner to dinner or lunch to lunch... so I move it to the day I want, but then I have to move each item individually to the meal I actually want it on. It's a bit awkward... not to mention time consuming!

Glucose readings are included with the weight report. The readings will be in graph form. There is a print button at the bottom of the graphs.

I haven't found a way to get a list.

I've been thinking about the glucose tracker... the uncategorized readings. wouldn't it be nice to have it in multiples, and have it show up in the order you enter it? I use that for the crashes etc that come between meals... and if it's low I take glucose and test again in twenty minutes... and I need to document WHEN that happens, whether it's between lunch and my afternoon snack, or in the middle of the night... My paper log I can do that, but online I can't unless I skip to the start page and redo the whole day-- it would be helpful. Just a thought.

I really do love having it on the nutrition page with my food entries, it makes SO much sense and is a lot easier.

As far as I know, it seems to me that the program doesn't differentiate between the two--you just feed in the numbers and it simply records whatever you type in to it, so you should be fine!

Good news too emoticon My 12 hour fasting blood sugar on March 1st was 143, tested on Tue was now 136. March 1st my A1c was 7.1 now it is 6.5.

I was upset because my weight was not down much, so the past 2 weeks I have been eating too much. Especially when eating out. I have had so much advice about how to do this diabetic eating thing, Atkins, GI index, Weight Watchers on and on. That I just ate.

I told my MD that I am not depressed, just really discouraged. He he said just be happy with what you have and learn to deal with it. So much is good with me.

I was also discouraged with arthritis in my right foot and trying to walk.

Tomorrow I go to Weight Watchers so I want to also go on the 8 Week Diabetic Challenge. I will have to do the exercise I can and do something else if I can't do that days. I am thinking this will help me to stay focused and get on track.

Thanks for all your group support emoticon love the posts and input. emoticon emoticon

If you go to you MY NUTRITION section under the MY TRACKERS tab you will find the Blood Glucose Tracker as well as the nutrition tracker.

To track insulin, you can set up a CUSTOM measurement to track. Here's how:

On your START page, click the WEIGHT, GLUCOSE & More button below your user name

Click the ADD/CHANGE WHAT YOU MEASURE link

Scroll to the bottom of the page and under CUSTOM MEASUREMENTS, put in INSULIN, select the Multiple Times a Day from the drop down and then click SAVE SETTINGS.

You can then click the Weight link, scroll down to the bottom and track your insulin intake for the day as you need.

Hope that helps.

INSULIN TRACKER

Hi all.

the new diabetes tools are AMAZING! Thanks Spark. I have some other feedback; I really hope I've not missed it - sorry if I have!

I've had a really good look and I can't find anywhere to track insulin nr the blood glucose and nutrition trackers. being type 1, this would be a really useful addition, as it would help to have all my important diabetic info in one place for comparing etc.

Are there any plans to introduce this? If I've missd it somewhere, I really apologise.

Once again - thanks for these fantastic tools!

Very true! LOL
thanks for the suggestions, Coach Tanya!

When I was first diagnosed with CKD, I was already in stage IV, with only 30% kidney function. I worked with SP and tracked as I was told, and the 44% was the result of 2yrs of hard work. Then I had that surgery I mentioned last year and... well.

I'm getting some really good results with some tweaking of my program, as I mentioned--and again, SP has been a huge part of it.

I'm team leader on the ESRD team, maybe you'd like to just read a few posts over there and see what we do that's different from this side of the coin--you'd be more than welcome!...

As to this forum topic--I tried some organic almond milk on my cereal this morning. It was a lot... blander... than I expected. Not terrible, but... hm.

...I think I'll just skip cereal from now on! LOL

Milk is not a friend of those with kidney disfunction (former renal transplant dietitian here) because of the factors you have listed. Four oz of milk provides 4 grams of protein; 63 mg of sodium and 175 mg of potassium. You would need to include it as part of your high phos intake for the day depending on what your RD and medical team has prescribed even when taking phosphate binders. Usually Poly Rich or Coffee Rich serve as alternatives for cereal, coffee etc. Work with your Renal Dietitian to help you work your eating plan. Spark can help you track once you have the plan to follow.

Like I said... I don't LIKE milk. Probably just as well under the circumstances...LOL

I did google the Smart Balance website just now...

For me, it's my kidney function I am concerned with, so it's not the lactose that causes the problems. If it were, I wouldn't HAVE a problem! LOL It's the sodium, the potassium, the calcium and the phosphorus--it's those that I need to track, and they don't offer enough nutritional information on the site for me to know if I can use the product or not.

I know what to look for, but I couldn't even FIND a list of ingredients, just an incomplete nutrition label. They post the bare minimum required... and it doesn't help me-- especially since I'm just getting over a situation where I went from 44% kidney function to 31%: I LOST an additional 13% of my kidney function.

I have now, with the help of SP and some friends on another team, and some good advice from a renal nutrition specialist, worked my way back up by 8%: I'm now cruising along at 36% and hopefully rising.

Rather than take any chances and jeopardize that progress, I will have to pass.

I do thank you for your desire to help though. Such thoughtfulness is always appreciated--that's one of the reasons why I love SP so much! The people here are all like you, wanting to help... THANKS!

Hi Kathy, Have you tried Smart Balance Milk? Our store carries 2 flavors...1 with Calcium and 1 with Omega 3s. I like the one with Omega 3s. It's rich and Fat Free. And you can get a coupon from their website.

My problem with the nutrition tracker is that many of these foods are not available in Bangladesh. No bagels, soy milk, Oikos Greek yogurt etc. No way will I buy 12 strawberries at over $20 a kilo. Where will I get bagels unless I go 2hours & back to a large Hotel Bakery & its so expensive & I hate them anyway. I eat a different diet my computer is old & too much to change as then I will have to spend 4 hours just tracking the food so I tick what I might eat & leave blanks. So the nutrition tracker mentions i am much under my goal. But its too much for me

I don't even LIKE milk, though I've been known to use it IN things on a rare occasion. But I have CKD... so any dairy is a problem for me too. I've been told by my renal nutrition specialist that I can substitute soy or almond milk, or a non-dairy creamer... but I don't like any I've tried so far. I'm still experiment... LOL

When your plan calls for milk you will simply want to use what you substitute in its place to ensure you are still getting adequate calcium, protein etc in your diet.

Hi, I have been trying this new program, but having difficulties, as the diets are no good for me -- I'm milk intollerant and it doesn't cover that. Love having the blood sugar count, but I'm forgetful. Will have to keep reminding myself. Could that be a suggestion -- to send a reminder to users??

My favourite people I look to for inspiration:
1. JESUS CHRIST
2. BFF-she ran a 5k marathon this year at 57.
3. my cousin-a warrior in Christ, who has survived 3 cancers through Prayer.

Hi, Coach Tanya, and thanks. I guess when I finally got going on SP, this was already in place. So I wasn't sure what everyone was talking about. DUH! emoticon

If you have a place to enter your BS on your nutrition page then you have everything set up and you are good to go!

Thank you so much! um silly question, but how to set it up? lol! I know I can enter my BS on my nutrition page. Is there anything else I have to do? I'm new at this (site), and there's ... so much going on that it gets to be a tad whirlwind like ^_^ please let me know ,and thanks again for your time. Its much appreciated.

God Bless!

Cyn,

If you have set up the diabetes (prediabetes is included) program you can enter as many blood sugar readings in a day as you like. Hopefully when we make future updates we will get the ability to enter times that might also help as well.

kewl! thank you! can I log the same BS more than once? wait. that sounds... um never mind LOL! I mean, lets say I have more than one snack, can I log the bs more than once? (this would obviously need to be done for the exercise one too). I'm not diabetic, I'm pre-diabetic. apparently I'm hypo, but today, my BS is on the higher side (nothing drastic, but its just weird) and I'm all over the place with stuff. sorry. ^_^

Great suggestion -- we will add it to our ongoing list of ideas for future updates.

Hi!
I wish there was an option, when we log in the BS results, for pre and post exercise :) My doc told me to take my bs before and after. (along with meals too). I don't know if that's possible, but it would be really nice.

Cheers! Cyn

I know I need to cut back on my salt intake, but have no idea how to track it. emoticon

I actually joined SP in Nov 2010, so I guess the diabetic amounts were already in place.

Hugs and thanks,
Renie

Irene, it was just a little while ago, so you're not that far behind any of us! LOL

I get an email article from time to time, and it was on one of those that the FDA had changed the minimum daily requirements for sodium, etc. My renal nutrition specialist hadn't even been notified yet, I actually told HER! LOL

You're good...

Just FYI for anyone else, I did as Coach Tanya suggested and went back to before I changed the parameters on the sodium...

The range has been changed on ALL my entries, but the calculated data stayed the same--so it looks like most of my entries are way over the mark even when they were in the range that was current at the time.

At least it's still there! LOL
Kathy

P.S. Michele, I made up my own spreadsheet on Excel to do basically that. My doctors didn't want TOTALS on anything, they wanted the 'meal to meal' details so they could see patterns of ups and downs-- they also wanted carbs along eaten with every dose of insuliin, not calories, plus the BGL, the amount of the insulin doses, the BP, how much water I drank, how much sleep... I went to Office Depot and paid $40 for them to print and bind it all (PLUS a week at a glance calendar for my dr appointments) into 2 books, one for this year and one for 2012. It's the size of half a sheet of copier paper, and fits into my purse with my meter and my syringe container, and all my ID stuff... It's a pdf file and I haven't figured out how to cut and paste it to anything but I can email the file--if you're interested, send me a sparkmail. It's something you could start with to make your own.

COACH TANYA, do you think anyone at SP admin would be interested in seeing it?
