Learn'n how to be a care taker for my wife as her busted up shoulder heals. Most of my time is watching her sleep and making sure she has not let her arm slip, despite the sling on her arm.
She has had to deal with pain most of her life, she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when she was 23. We recently were finding success with our move to Tucson's kind environment and a change to a fantastic Rheumatoid Doctor and staff that have her on new meds and treatment. All was so great, but a slip and fall put her back in severe pain. She has been prescribed opiods (OxiCoden) but she only takes a pill when the pain peaks. Wants to keep away from any dependency.

Sunny skies, more humid, and 88F / 31C, dew point is 71F. Rain, heavy at times moving in tonight.

So far today: Breakfast (we ate outside!), house cleaning, and finished mowing. Eating lunch now, then I plan to get in a run later on, maybe a trail run. Tonight: Leftover Mexican dinner from last evening.

Have a great Saturday gents!

We survived graduation - the rain held off for the most part and the graduates were happy. I couldn't really have asked for more. Today we're supposed to go to a Memorial Day cookout/potluck - it should be fun, but I have to figure out something to bring. It's only going to be 72F today, and the cloud cover is still pretty heavy. Still, it's the unofficial start of summer, so we're going to celebrate!

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Mostly sunny, hot and humid today. 75F at 8 am. High in the mid-90s.

Taking it easy today. I rode about 30 minutes on my Airdyne bike until it got too stuffy in the garage. That's the limit to my exercise today. Spending the rest of the day reading and watching war movies on TMC.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend.

The start of the Memorial Day Weekend promises a sort of sultry heat and humidity, Not really inviting. Rain in the forecast, particularly Sunday, but may clear by Monday AM, so the parade will not be rained out. I'd like to go.

More than warm enough for our walk this evening with temps in the mid-eighties and full sun. Got in over forty minutes and was pretty drippy by the end.

The cable guy set me straight about my modem/router situation. It was as I suspected and the new Comcast combo router and modem do not match my router for getting the wifi out (it's a Trendnet triband with six antennas), especially in an old house with plaster and brick, like ours. He said my assumptions were correct in that I would probably need the signal boosters if I were to switch and also if I ever do switch, I can use just the modem portion of their device and keep my router. I told him that I was clocking near 250 Mbps download speeds as presently configured and he said the new modem would not improve that since that is my max anyway. He said the only reason to change would be if Gbps speeds come to the area and even then, I can hang onto my router if it's still working well. (That's using the Comcast test.... other sites tell me between 78 and 220 Mbps.) Unless you're a serious gamer or a business, I can't imagine the need for anything faster. My concern was keeping the signal to the existing devices with minimum hassle.

Have a great weekend!

Partly sunny this morning an in the mid-70s. Warming up to 90 with a chance of an early afternoon thunder shower.

I've used a Wi-Fi extender in my last house. It worked fine for our purposes without any significant loss of bandwidth. This house is much smaller and doesnít need an extender. In the new house, Iíve ran Ethernet cables alongside of coaxial cables for streaming/IPTV. I planned to provide my own modem/router in the new place.

Dean, the new kid/goat is adorable. Too bad about the other one.

Steve, congratulations to all of your graduates and congratulations to you for obtaining a Master of Arts in Communications! Well done.

Spending part of the morning making arrangements for the angio-cath procedure. Getting old sucks!!

On another note, I had a great run this morning. Finished 3.5 miles in 39 minutes (with no chest pains) and walked an additional 2.5 miles. Don't know how long I can keep this up but felt great!

It's Friday and the Rockets won last night!

A chilly, wet graduation day. High of 58F only, good chance of showers for the certificate ceremony at 1:00pm but the rain may stop for graduation at 6:00pm. There is still a lot to celebrate.

Ron, I hope you get whatever treatment you need to correct your ailments. I just read about another Spark friend who had a heart attack on Mother's Day. We need to take care of our tickers!

Patrick, I've been curious about the new whole-house WiFi systems that have three devices scattered through the house but are supposed to ensure good coverage everywhere. They aren't cheap, but I wonder how good they are. Our modem is in the living room where we spend the majority of our time. It manages to get the signal throughout our place (and probably half the neighborhood). Our SSID is "FBI_5781" which I hope deters the hackers.

Dean, congrats on the new addition but I'm sorry to hear about the other doe. I loved the picture on FB of Jane snuggling with one of the goats. I think they are beautiful creatures - definitely one of my favorite farm animals.

It is going to be a big day on campus, but a long one. I'll get home tonight around 8pm and ready to start the 3-day weekend. Happy Friday, gents!

It is sunny here on the west side of the Delmarva as well. 68 degrees. Wind 2 mph.

I spent most of Wednesday asleep except for dinner at a neighborís place. Got some mowing done yesterday and made it to yoga class. But I am still dragging from the cold I caught. Six days of being wet and chilly caught up with me.

We did have a surprise Wednesday evening. We got home from our neighbors to find a new addition in the goat shed.

But we also had a doe who lost her kids yesterday so it has been an uneven week.

Today: Move the chicken pasture fence and harrow the sweet potato field. Sweet potato slips are due to arrive next week. Iím hoping it will be dry enough today to work the field.

Hope your Friday goes well.

NITEMAN3D, I'll keep that in mind!

Speaking of modems, Comcast sent a note out stating my speed was increased (250MB). The "problem" is that I have to station it in the basement since I use the phone service and it needs to be near the phone lines. If I ever drop the phone service I could bring it upstairs, but my Verizon Wireless signal is so so, so until that improves i'll stick with Comcast phone. I use Netgear Powerline devices to extend my internet service throughout the house, but speeds drops off into the 50 - 60MB range. Still not too shabby.

Another sunny day here on the Delmarva. Currently 64F / 18C, heading to the upper 80's. A bit more humid today.

On tap for today: AM yoga here at home, breakfast, work, normally I do strength training at lunchtime on Friday but I may get some of my mowing done instead and enjoy the warm sunny weather, then back to work. Hoping it will be a quiet work day.

Tonight: DW just reminded me today is National Wine Day, so I'm sure wherever we go we'll enjoy some wine.

TGIF gents!!

Eighty and sunny today, so I should get a walk. BTW Patrick, if I get really energetic and walk three miles (usually two or less), I get there in just under an hour, so if we ever meet in the middle for coffee, don't forget to leave late.

Cable guy replaced a couple items and left, but now I feel better about my "out of date" modem. He said it's just fine and will keep up for years.

Hope everybody is feeling better today. Have a great day!

"Love is an action verb. It requires sweat equity. There is no such thing as passive love. "

78F headed to the high 80s. Some clouds this morning and a good probability of an early shower and then sunny the rest of the day.

Just finished watching my grandsonís graduation from Dhahran High School in Al-Khobar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was live-streamed via YouTube. Technology is a wonderful thing!!!

Saw a fawn this morning during my walk/run. It was too far away to get a picture, nevertheless it was beautiful!

Meanwhile, the cardiologist suspect that I have a hiatal hernia that may be the primary cause of my intermittent chest pains. He also showed me a restriction or narrowing of the blood flow in one artery that appeared during my stress test. He's recommending catheter angiography. Deciding . . . . .

A beautiful sunny day here on the Delmarva. 71F / 22C, heading to the low 80's.

On tap for today: Yoga for abs here at home, early morning run, breakfast, work, whole blood donation, and more work. Tonight: Leftover Italian dinner.

My run was going very well until I incurred a nasty cramp in the upper part of my calf. Still ran a 32:46 3 mile run, but the cramp slowed me down considerably. Oh well....

Have a great Thursday gents!

Ron, I hope the cardiologist appt went better than you feared. Keep us updated. Sending good thoughts to you.

Dennis, that's such a sweet thought about caring for your wife while she recovers. When I was in recovery after my accident 4 years ago, it definitely brought us closer together when I was getting daily injections, needed help showering, eating, etc. I wish you both the best.

Today is the day before graduation at our campus, and it couldn't come soon enough. We have a rehearsal with the students at 4:30 today to walk the route and make sure everyone is comfortable. The chance of rain tomorrow increased from 25-30% to 50%. Not a good sign.

Have a great Thursday, everyone! I'm getting ready to head to the judge's breakfast to hear more local candidates speak about their, um, qualifications.

Thanks all for the well wishes for my recovering wife. Today was all about my wife dealing with life's common tasks, like showering, dressing, eating, tending to her house plants, and many others................ all with one arm/hand. You never miss something until it is gone. As we age, we can not allow ourselves to be rushed, or be distracted while living life, like walking! My wish is for this incident to make us closer. It is all about giving and receiving. So far, so good.

Sorry to hear about your wife's injury Dennis. Sending her well wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hey Dean, hope you get over the cold posthaste.

It's already 80F at 10am. Expecting a high in the low 90s. Woke up too early this morning but started and finished my morning trek by 7 am. There was a clear sky this morning with plenty of stars but by time I got home the clouds were moving in from the south. Expecting a heat thunderstorm in the late afternoon.

Seeing the cardiologist today to discuss my stress test results. He insisted I go to his office to speak to him face to face. It's a little disheartening (pun intended). Not a good sign.

It's Wednesday already!

71 going up to 81 here today. 4 mph wind. No rain.

Poor nightís sleep due to cough. Went to bed in the 5th inning and was up before daybreak. Been just sitting around, reading, drinking tea. We will see what the rest of the day brings. Lots to do; just not lots of energy.

Hope your Wednesday is more enthusiastic.

Cooler today - high of 74F. It is supposed to only be 63 on Friday, which is the day of graduation. At least we won't be roasting in our caps and gowns, but if it rains (there's a 25% chance), it won't be fun.

Back at work today after a nice day off yesterday. There's a lot to do between now and Friday. Better get busy.

Cloudy skies and 68F / 20C, heading to the low 80's with clearing skies. Had 0.33 of rain yesterday.

On tap for today: AM yoga here at home, breakfast, work, strength training at the Y, and more work. Worked late last evening....

Tonight: I'm thinking Italian. Not sure it will be take-out or dine in.

Sunday we are going to do something to celebrate my son's 36th birthday. But now that they have a puppy their time out is limited. So checking out maybe finding a hotel so we can do movie and dinner.

Happy hump day gents!

Dennis, I'm so sorry to hear about your wife's fall and arm break. I have a lot of sympathy. I hope she heals quickly.

It was a great day today. I slept until 7:30 on the sofa in my dad's office after a long series of interviews and deliberations for the hiring committee for the Dean of Student Services position at the college. The committee was terribly dysfunctional, but that seems to be normal for that bunch.

The college president called me this morning to ask for my take on the committee after talking with the dean who chaired it. We all agreed that it was worth interviewing the candidates even though the committee didn't want to send any of them through. Ultimately, the president makes the hire anyway and the committee is just an advisory body, but oh, boy, did those faculty members on the committee get their panties in a bunch! We will see how it all plays out. This could be a good sign for a change in regime down the road.

I'm back home again. The ironing is done, and now I have 17 applications to review for another hiring committee that I'm co-chairing. Our next meeting to determine which candidates to interview will be Friday morning. It must be that time of year with a lot of open positions that need to be filled.

Graduation is Friday evening! It can't come soon enough.

Got in a half hour walk a little later than usual and it was pretty cloudy with temps in the mid-seventies, but I didn't get wet.

I fell for a Comcast offer to "upgrade" my modem to a faster version which they sent me for self-install. After reading a bit, I decided that wasn't for me as it kind of looks like it's all in one with both modem and router. Their video shows "optional" signal boosters available for the router portion and my router is pretty high end with no need for boosters. Additionally, I would have to change networks for all our devices... another pain. So off I go to the Comcast office ten miles away in another small town. The kid that waited on me couldn't have been any more outstanding. He readily allowed me to return it with no hassle and pointed out that I pay extra for system maintenance inside the house, so he scheduled a service call and said that if the tech should decide to replace my antique modem (he seemed sure he would) he will do all the switching on all the devices and that he can even install in "bridge mode" that will allow me to keep my router and use just the modem portion of the Comcast device. If down the road, my router fails, I can fall back on the Comcast router portion of their device. We'll see.....

Dennis... falls are the bane of us in the over fifty crowd. Wishing her speedy recovery.

Patrick... The Longhorn in town has been there for several years and the food and service are great as long as they're not busy. For whatever reason, it seems they can't keep up with a rush. If we go there and the lot is over half full, we go elsewhere. Funny thing is that Olive Garden is right next door and doesn't seem to have any trouble with high volume and they are both still owned by Darden if I'm not mistaken.

Good night to all!

Sorry, Dennis, for your wifeís fall.

More rain today, about 1/4 inch.

Woke up with a cold. I mulched and planted eggplants and peppers in the high tunnel today. Quit early because I was dragging. Baseball now but I donít think Iíll see the end of the game before I hit the sack.

Have a good Tuesday p.m.

Spent last night in the ER, trying to get my DW mended from a bad trip and fall in the garage. The ambulance left our home at 6 pm and we were discharged from the ER at 8 am this morning. Her shoulder is broken up. The Humerus Bone has three thru and thru cracks in it, one just below the ball on the straight bone. No cast - just a sling and an arm brace. We got substantial rain late yesterday. Surprised everyone including the weather reporters!

76F and partly sunny, expecting a high in the upper 80s with a good chance of a late afternoon thunder-shower.

Finished a great walk this morning, plenty of wildlife out and about; armadillo, rabbits, deer, several species of water fowl and a turtle!

It's $5 Tuesday! I may go to the movies in the early afternoon!

Clouds have returned with a good chance of showers later today. 61F / 16C, heading to the mid 70's.

On tap for today: Yoga for abs here at home, breakfast, work, run, and more work. Tonight: Likely take-out for dinner. We made our first visit to the new Longhorn Steak Restaurant last evening. Food was great, service was spotty at times, but I'm betting it will improve over time - they have only been open for 3 weeks.

Have a terrific Tuesday gents!

Golf was grand this morning. Started the round at 7:30 am with temps in the low 70's, ended the round at 11 am with temps in the high 80's and a nice breeze. Sunny skies all morning.

Another warm and humid day with a chance of showers later this evening. High in the high 80s, few clouds with prevailing winds at 10 to 15mph

Finished a long walk this morning despite muscle spasms on my left calf. This always happens to me when the temperature and humidity rises. Iíve got to remember to get more fluids and electrolytes to replace all I lose while sweating.

Skipped my usual Monday yoga class because of the leg cramps. I've been trying to decide if Iím attending the Joe Bonomasso performance tonight, but Iím having a hard time separating myself from the $100 ticket. Heís one of my favorite (living) guitarist, but I just may have to settle with listening via my computer or phone.

Meanwhile in Oakland, the Warriors turned the Rockets into duds last night!

Monday: Day of the Moon. Happy Victoria Day to my Canadian friends.

The goats and chickens seem to be enjoying the sunshine and mild 7 mph breeze after living in mud for the past week. Me, too. 69 degrees out, going up another 10 degrees during the course of the day.

Lots to do today. Some mowing. Lots of cultivating and hoeing when the soil gets dry enough. Some planting hopefully. Like everybody else around here, we are way behind at getting seed and transplants in the ground.

Hope your Monday is productive.

A break in the Mid-Atlantic rain. Lovely day shaping up. Some travel coming up, and primary need is to clean up loose ends before we lock up the place.

Our grapes are doing well too, Dave. In fact, our garden looks better this year than it ever has. It's tiny, but it appears to be mighty!

I feel like I need a week of sleep to catch up from all the festivities this weekend. Having to drive to the main campus in Woodland today won't help. At least I can sleep in tomorrow, since I took the day off.

It's Monday! Make the most of it.

Made it to church and got a walk in. Temps hit the eighties and the rain finally gave up for a while. We've splurged this year and already have way over half of our hanging baskets bought and in place. We usually get about four and wait for the prices to go down for the rest, but this year we decided to pay a little more and go for selection. We still have much to do with the containers and shelf pots for flowers. DW will probably be buying seeds and veggie plants for another month, but that involves the historic property next door that we (mostly her) do the garden for as well as our own kitchen garden. She did con me into trimming the grape vines this year and I always get stuck with the vines on the fence. Time for new flags for Memorial day and new paint for the house as well.

Hope everybody had a good weekend!

Well, we survived another wine adventure weekend! Our friends John, Lori, and Lisa and my sister Janet and her husband John all arrived safely on Friday, and we had two great days sampling local wines and small bites. I did better than ever with portion control and dumping more wine than I drank. Everyone has gone back home and I'm now doing laundry a little later than usual on a Sunday.

I will be driving to the main campus in Woodland (outside Sacramento) tomorrow to participate in a hiring committee for interviews for our Dean of Student Services position. I am hoping for a positive outcome. I'll spend tomorrow night at my parents in Sacramento because it's closer than driving home. I took Tuesday off as a mental health day and will get some shopping done while I'm down there.

Have a great week!

Warm and humid today. The temperature at 5 am was 74F with a dew point of 74F-- 100% humidity with no rain in sight. Partly sunny today with a high near 90F.

Off to church in a few minutes, than grocery shopping. Later, picking up my grandson for pizza and a movie. Tonight: watching the Rockets versus the Warriors.

Happy Sunday

The sun is finally making an appearance here on the Delmarva! 74F / 23C, dew point at a pretty oppressive 69F, heading to the 80's with a 20/30% chance of showers. I still have some standing water in the gully out front, but it is WAY down from this time yesterday! 4.74" over the past 7 days!

On tap for today: Breakfast out, Sam's Club, then will do as much mowing as the ground will allow, but there is a breeze so hoping things dry out while we are out. Tonight: Not sure if it will an in or out dinner.

Happy Sunday gents!

Our children need protection in school. If we protected them with the same logic that we protect airline passengers the problem would be solved. It would be costly and cause delays.......................... no, cost and time are far more important..... forget I said anything.

Rain on and off again today. 0.8 inches in the last 24 hours. Coolish today. Sun is she used to come out at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Rain again at 2 p.m. It is not raining here but it is raining in DC where the Nats are playing the Dodgers.

School shootings are a quandary. I thought they were a phenomenon that would pass, but they donít seem to be. I donít understand that we canít do a better job of prevention.

It was a wet morning at the Farmers Market but good to see quite a few customers who have become regulars. We sold about half as much as usual. Next week we have off because there is a big event in Chestertown ó The Tea Party. Apparently it wasnít just in Boston. We had one here, too. Weíve never attended.

Hope your Saturday has gone well.

75F at 10am clear and sunny a little more humid. High in the low 90s.

Dennis and Dave, you guys make some great points. Itís a very deep subject. Too deep for my shallow mind. The inexplicableness and tragedy of it all confounds me.

Finished a nice long walk and a short jog this morning. Washing my automobile today and a little yard work.

Happy Armed Services Day

I guess we can get into a protracted discussion about the sudden and violent attacks on schools and other public gatherings. My problem with that is... I think that's a great part of the problem. Public exposure seems to be what drives this sad phenomenon. In my opinion, that is the solution. A complete and total news and social media blackout on the subject. These tragedies are a result of monkey see, monkey do "glory" seekers who want to get attention in any way possible. Take that away and much of the problem will disappear.

Yet, the problems that should command unstopping media coverage seem to get lip service only and there are many, many things that can be done to reduce them. Two of these problems are almost completely preventable... death from obesity and death from a drug overdose. Give these two more and more press and social media coverage:

www.drugabuse.gov/related-to
pics/trend
s-statistics/overdose-death-
rates

Anyhoo, my heart goes out to the victims of all these unspeakable horrors and I pray that we can come up with some new ideas on eliminating them all from our culture. What we're doing now surely isn't working. A thousand deaths a month from all forms of gun violence and more than five times that from drug overdoses. Only God knows how many die as a direct result of diseases caused by obesity, but it's surely more than the first two put together. One thing is certain, we have work to do as a society or it will simply continue and worsen.

The rain continues with temps in the sixties and I've been abandoned while DW slogs off to the annual Master Gardiner's plant sale.

Good day to all!

AMEN Dennis!

Another wet day here on the Delmarva. 60F / 16C, just overcast at the moment, heading to 74F with more chances for rain today. Appears one more day (Sunday) with rain / showers in the area before the sun makes an appearance on Monday. 4.55" in the rain gauge since last Saturday evening. I wish I could send some of it your way Dennis.

On tap for today: watch the royal wedding, breakfast, trip to grocery store, run, then back to make some progress on my office. Slowly but surely it is getting there. A rainy day is perfect for that sort of work. Tonight: Watch the Preakness, then dinner....?? Not sure out or in.

Have a great Saturday gents!

I can not believe that there is not a solution to the death of school children by firearms and bombs. We can stop terrorists from taking over commercial aircraft, we can stop the world from using nuclear weapons, but mankind is incapable of stopping the unnecessary deaths of school children from mass murder violence. We live in a very sad time of history.

Wow Patrick! You got to meet Capt. Kirk; how cool is that!!? I still watch Star Trek reruns on Netflix.

Congrats Doug on reaching your high school weight!

Stress test went well. No problems during the test. I'll talk to the cardiologists next week.

96F sunny and less humid today. Another record breaking high temperature. It looks like a long hot and dry summer.

On a sour note, it's another sad day for the country with the school shooting at Santa Fe, Texas. It's only 30 miles from my house. I regularly drive through the town on my way to Galveston. I just don't know . . . . . .

The sixties and light rain... again. Our company is here and we're debating loafing around the house or finding something to do. They've been on the road a lot, so I think loafing is going to win. Looking at pics of their travels.

Patrick, I didn't get that Shatner was actually going to be there when you first posted that. How cool is that? I tended bar when that show first hit the airwaves in the mid-sixties and the old farts who came in would holler at me about getting that crap off the TV and put on some sports. By the time I left three years later, they would all complain if I didn't have Star Trek on.

G'day to all!

Seems like continuous rain in DC area - light, but requires jacket/hat/umbrella.

Reached high school weight today. Christmas pounds are gone. Now the hard part starts, because my weight distribution is not high school, but much older, and still a bit of a beer gut showing. Losing weight from here will take more attention than the past. Will work on it. Goal is something around 20% body fat and greater strength, wherever that takes the scales.

Our vote-by-mail ballots came in the mail yesterday. I'll be glad to have those completed and mailed off. Ron, I hope your stress test went well today so you can enjoy some caffeine again.

Dennis - sending good thoughts your way that wildfire season is manageable. We are in the same predicament, so I hope all is well down south.

Patrick, that is so cool that you actually got to experience the film with Capt. Kirk. I'm glad you had a great time.

Dave, that commercial is a crack up. That was the "small" Chrysler!

Friends from the Bay Area and my sister and brother-in-law are all arriving tonight for the Wine Adventure weekend. There are 25 wineries participating this weekend, and it will be a fun time. A neighbor loaned us her big SUV with the 3rd-row seats so that the 7 of us can ride together to drive around the lake tasting wines and small bites. It's always a blast to share the event with friends.

High of 80F today and casual Friday. We have a retirement party for a staff member and two faculty who are leaving us this year. It will be a happy-sad occasion.

Have a great day, all!

Wish we could share some of our rain with you guys in the west and south. Two more inches in the last 24 hours. Washington Post says the region will get another 1 to 3 inches today. High today will be 67.

We got so desperate to get more plants in the ground that I transplanted tomato plants in the rain (it was light) late afternoon yesterday. It was at the edge of a field so I could kneel in the grass without sinking in the mud, which is what would happen anywhere else in our gardens. Another problem: because of the constant humidity, those of us with green houses and high tunnels are having trouble with aphids. I talked to another grower yesterday and she told me they had to close down one of their high tunnels because of aphids. Iíve been fighting them with Dr. Bronnerís soap, overhead watering, diatomaceous earth, and other organic, non-poisonous methods, but we may not have many early tomatoes this year. It is an adventure.

Have a great Friday.

CLASSIC Ricardo Montalban commercial! Thanks NITEMAN3D!

Interesting story that Shatner told last evening -- that Ricardo barely had any use of his legs during the filming of ST II. I don't recall if it was due to an injury or an illness, as anyone who has ever watched that movie, he had WONDERFUL pecs!

Even more suprising -- movie wrapped up around 9:15PM, so I am thinking maybe 45 minutes with Shatner -- no, 1 hour and 20 minutes! Not too shabby for a man in his mid 80's!

Well the Seattle weather continues here on the Delmarva -- 64F / 18C, another 1.20" of rain in the gauge overnight. Today and tomorrow will be the worst, then it should slow down a bit...but not stop. At least the temps will be rising.

On tap for today: AM yoga here at home, breakfast, work, strength training at the Y, and more work. Tonight: Planning to cook the last of the our Home Chef meals -- pork chops!

TGIF gents!

Light drizzle and 63F / 17C here in Seattle...err I mean the Delmarva! Just feels like Seattle. 5 straight days of measurable rain, and a BUNCH more is on the way (maybe as much as 5" by the time we get to the end of Saturday!).

On tap for today: Yoga for abs here at home, breakfast, work, driving to Philly at lunchtime. Working from the Philadelphia Library. Tonight: GEEK TIME:

We are now in a SEVERE Drought stage here in Tucson. No rain since mid Feb. No rain in the forecast for the next two weeks. The only good thing is that the winds are not strong. Still, a wild fire alert is in place (since one month ago). For those of you east of the Rocky Mts, I hope you are safe and well.

Another hot day in the Houston area. We're breaking records and it's not a good thing!
76F at 9 am humid and mostly sunny with a high in the mid-90s. No rain in our forecast for the next 7 days.

Finished a shortened walk/jog this morning and just had my last cup of coffee. I have to reframed from caffeine 24 hours before the nuclear stress test tomorrow morning. Other than the IV, this is probably the most difficult part of the exam for me.

Headed to the polls later today for early voting. Election day is Tuesday, but I prefer to vote early.
Have a great Thursday!

All that rainfall in the east, and you are all so selfish not to share. The nerve!

We actually did get a sprinkle yesterday when it was so cloudy. I'm not sure it was enough to actually water anything, but the pavement was wet when I left for work. I'm sure it was less than 0.05" of rain. Today it is back to warmer temps (high of 74F) and clearer skies.

Judge's breakfast this morning - another political candidate. The co-host could have scheduled forums with all the candidates for a particular race, since our primary is coming up June 5, but he didn't have that much foresight. So we just have one candidate telling us why we should vote for him. I don't even live in his district, but I'm interested in what he has to say.

Heavy rain overnight, discovered downspout seems clogged. But overflow is landing on a concrete pad sloped away from house so not a terrible discovery. Gutters being replaced next month. No gutter covers planned, however. Rain continues through Saturday. Then a bit dryer.

Out of the house today on a volunteer gig. Good dealing with others' problems. A break from dealing with my own which will still be waiting when I get home.

Another 0.7 inches of rain overnight. More rain today. In fact, the forecast predicts rain for the next six days! Whatís going on?

We just got notice that the delivery of our sweet potato slips has been delayed a week. Good thing. We couldnít get them in the ground anyway. If we didnít have a high tunnel, weíd have almost nothing to harvest so far this year. Iím sort of complaining but Iím really more nonplussed.

Nats-Yankees games rained out last night. Nats have off tonight so they should be well rested by the time the Dodgers get to town Friday.

Cool day today. High of 69. Iíll be working in the high tunnel. Then yoga. Have a great Thursday.

Since I'm a fair weather hiker, I guess I'll be cooped up for a bit. They call for temps in the sixties and rain until Sunday. Maybe I'll get some breaks in the clouds long enough for a walk? The upside is that the A/C isn't necessary with ceiling fans until night time temps stay above seventy in this house, so lower electric bills are nice.

Good day to all!

Must be a cold front that came through last night. High's today only 70 or so, but rain forecast for the afternoon, evening, night, and into tomorrow. Good for the grass. Except I don't have any grass. Good for your grass, maybe.

Stuff I'm doing is moving today, which always makes me feel better.

So, all's well at this end - hoping the same for you.

Itís hot and humid here too, but no rain. Mostly sunny with a high in the low 90s.

Finished yoga this morning at the gym. Paying bills today. The parts arrived for the weed whacker. I'll repair it today and mow the lawn late this afternoon.

Phone call with the builder this afternoon to discuss progress on construction. Finish carpenters are doing molding and trim. Floors, cabinets and granite countertops are done.

It's Wednesday already!!

1.1 inches of rain overnight on the western side of the Delmarva. We seem to get just a little less than where you are, Patrick. Rain scheduled on and off all day today. High of 72.

Mulching, pruning, trellising in the high tunnel today. Too wet to work the soil outside or mow. I agreed to a meeting with a nearby college student this afternoon. His grandfather was an acquaintance. Iíll see what he wants.

Have a great Wednesday.

It's going to be even cooler today - high of 66F. I'm sympathetic to you east coasters with the heat and humidity. That was the worst part about summers in Indiana - you were always drenched with sweat. Still, I wouldn't mind a little more warmth right now. It is supposed to be nicer this weekend.

A couple meetings today but mostly I'll be doing preparation for graduation, which is now just 9 days away. It couldn't come soon enough.

Happy Wednesday!

Cloudy, occasional rain, 67F / 19C, just climbing to the low 70's after a high of 87F here yesterday. 1.27" of rain overnight.

On tap for today: AM yoga here at home, chiropractor appointment, breakfast from Wawa, work, plumber coming to fix slow bathroom sink drain, run, and more work. Tonight: 2nd Home Chef meal. We had fish cakes last night and they were VERY good!

Happy hump day gents!

No DirectTV tonight because of a thunderstorm. So we were listening to the Nats-Yankees game on our MLB app but a rain delay was just called with the game tied in the 6th.

Got all my chores done before the rain started. It was hot and humid today. Temperature of 88 and 80 percent humidity. I changed my clothes in the middle of the afternoon because I was soaked with perspiration.

Still, it felt like a productive day. Mulched and pruned the outdoor tomatoes. Planted 200 feet of potatoes and cultivated the rest of the potato field.

Rain tonight. Rain for the next theee days. Glad I got some field work done today.

Have a great Tuesday night.

Well, it's pretty out right now but apparently not going to stay that way as there is a flash flood watch in the forecast. In the eighties and mostly sunny right now. Must go to vote and maybe stop at a grocery store or two. Got my trekking poles... man, are they light. Now to test them.

Have a beautiful day, no matter the weather!

Beautiful weather here in Tucson - perfect in the mornings for golf. Example: temps in the 70's, clear skies, low wind, active critters everywhere! Week day golf traffic is low.

69F and foggy this morning. Expecting a partly sunny high in the low 90s.

My lower back is still on the mend but much better than yesterday. Finished an early morning walk but will take it easy the rest of the day. Have another visit scheduled to the chiropractor tomorrow if necessary.

Cardiac stress test scheduled for Friday morning. That gives me a 3 days to study for it!

A bit cooler today - high of 73F. Should be comfortable for the most part.

Yesterday was another marathon meeting today - started at 9:00 and didn't let up until 4:45. At least I had an hour from 8-9 to get some emails answered. Today should be a little easier.

Still, I'd rather just stay home today. I think I'm feeling a little burnout, but it will pass.

Partly sunny and humid -- 69F / 21C, dew point at 65F -- heading to the upper 80's with storms moving in.

On tap for today: Yoga for abs here at home, breakfast, work, A/C company coming to do A/C check (perfect day for that!), strength training, and more work. Tonight: Our first "Home Chef" meal box arrives, so we'll do one of those. I have a conference call with folks in the Philippines at 8:30PM.

Looked like we finally had a nice day for walking and then I checked the weather app. Severe t-storm watch in effect till nine this evening. Boo!

Baseball is my happy place right now with both teams doing well. Seems like there is no perfect team, Dean. A little (or big) problem always pops up by either people doing less than expected or injuries coming out of nowhere that change the whole game plan. The road is long and sometimes bumpy.

The more expensive fitness watch is nice and actually does do a couple extra things that I use, but if I had it to do over again I would stick with the basic function fitness tracker. Nice, but surely not a necessity unless you're into serious athletics.

Good day to all!

Last night rain. Worked on moving my shop (downsizing! - moving into the equipment space so the former shop can be converted (back) to a guest room). Felt very positive about identifying stuff I'd accumulated that I no longer need to store and am unlikely to use in future.

72F and mostly sunny and humid. High expected near 90F. It's been nearly a month since there's been any appreciable rain here. It's been a dry April and May so far.

My lower back is still sore this morning. It looks like a visit to the chiropractor is in my near future. Headed to yoga later this morning and probably workout on the stationary or spinning bike to accommodate my sore back.

I've been using a fitbit Blaze for a few years now and although I don't run as much as I use too, the fitbit app meets all my needs. It tracks pace, distance, and path (with the phone). But itís not an Apple watch. I'm considering upgrading to the fitbit Versa.

It's Monday! Have a great one.

High of 77F today. Should be a pleasant day and not too windy. That's a good thing. We have already had one wildfire last week. That's a lot earlier than when we've had them in the past. Usually they show up in mid-to-late summer.

I had a nice visit with Mom and Dad. Mom seemed to appreciate the dinner out Saturday night. There were many other mothers dining with families at the restaurant. It was nice to see.

Should be a fairly normal work week leading up to the party celebrating our retirees on Friday afternoon.

Happy Monday!

58 and cloudy outside. Feels cool. Supposed to get significantly warmer today and tomorrow. We may have more rain here Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Nats game kept me later than usual last night. Snacked on some toasted corn nuts but my weight is still down a bit this week. The Phillies are impressive this year, Dave. If theyíd figure out their closer problem, theyíd be scary.

My Fitbit is on its last days Iím afraid so I bought a spare on sale. Be interested in how you like your Apple Watch, Patrick.

Too wet to plant but got lots of mulching to do. Have a good Monday, guys.

Cloudy and 59F / 15C here on the eastern side of the Delmarva, heading to the upper 70's later today. Had .10 of rain overnight and woke up to a clap or two of thunder.

On tap for today: AM yoga here at home, breakfast, work, goatee color, not sure it it will be a run or strength training today, then back to work. Tonight: Our "Home Chef" order comes on Tuesday, so we have to figure out dinner tonight. Thinking maybe Applebee's or Chedder's, both close by and likely no leftovers.

I may have mentioned that I got an Apple Watch last week. Big challenge is to find a running app that effectively will replace my Garmin running watch. May have found one that meets my need -- iSmoothRun. But will test it out running today or tomorrow to determine that. Otherwise I am REALLY impressed with the new watch. Got a $100 voucher from my company's wellness program so that made it even better.

Have a good work week gents!

Another overcast and misty day. Will opt for the Gazelle again, most likely. Should get trekking poles from a Groupon buy tomorrow, so that should be sufficient excuse to head for the mountains and try them out if the weather cooperates. Just got back from church and getting set for an afternoon of baseball if the rain stops in the Bronx and it's televised. Otherwise, I may just nap and read?

Good day to all!

Dean, I'm sorry that the weather has wreaked such havoc on your garden. I hope things calm down during the summer. I have no idea what we would do with 2+ inches of rain in one day. Yikes!

Only 76F at the lake today. We will head home shortly after having breakfast with my folks to celebrate Mother's Day. It has been a nice visit, and the dogs have been well-behaved.

Happy Mother's Day to all the women in our lives who provide motherly love.

2.1 inches of rain overnight. Plus hail. Hail pruned the tomatoes I transplanted yesterday but didnít break any stems. Hopefully the plants will be okay. More rain throughout the day.

When our children were school-aged I gave them two days off from school a year. When I wrote the absence excuse the next day, Iíd wrote: ďxxxxx missed school yesterday because of the way she was feeling.Ē We missed church this morning because of the way we were feeling.

My highest priority is to get the goat stable cleaned out today. We are not sure when our does were impregnated. The buck was here for six weeks and it could have been early or later, but Nessa Rose is acting like it could be soon.

Hope your Sunday is pleasurable.

72F at 6 am (dew point 70F) relative humidity at 98%. The high temperature will reach into the upper 80s on this humid Sunday.

Sore back this morning, probably from moving stuff around the garage yesterday. Taking it easy today. Headed to church, then brunch with the wife, daughter and son-in-law to celebrate Mother's Day.

Have a great Mother's Day fellows

It looked like rain all day, but I got all my chores accomplished and stuck with the Gazelle for walking. Finally mowed the grass and took the last load to bulky item collection point, so that's done for the year. G'nite all!

Ok. Now it is hailing here on the western side of the Delmarva. 77 degrees and hailing.

We had a good Farmers Market this morning. After lunch and a short nap after getting home and cleaning up, we transplanted tomatoes, which took a while. Just as we finished up and I was preparing to feed the animals and collect eggs, the heavens opened. I got in the house soaking wet, heard banging, saw it was sleeting. Wonder what the sleet will do to the tomato plants?

All of the growers at the market were talking this morning about how far behind we are with our outdoor crops because of the strange spring weíve had this year. It may be harder to find good local produce on the Delmarva this year.

Hope youíve had a good Saturday.

Partly sunny skies, a bit humid, and 74F / 23C, dew point is 63F, heading to the low 80s. Storms tonight, some may be severe. NWS says even an outside chance of a tornado! I miss my puppies but at least one has always had issues with storms so I am thankful they don't have to endure that any more.

On tap for today: Sam's Club trip, breakfast, a few more shopping stops, and have the front yard mowed so far. After I finish my lunch I'll head back out to mow the back. Look like I'll get it all done before the storms get here. Tonight: Leftover Italian!

Have a great Saturday gents!

Partly sunny skies. The high will be in the mid to upper-80s on this humid and breezy day.

Finished a shorter than usual trek this morning. I just wasn't feeling it, so I turned around and when home. Clearing out my garage. My DD and SIL are the recipients of a few items we don't plan on bringing to North Carolina, such as, the portable generator, small chest type freezer and a gas grill. I see a garage sale in my future. I hate doing garage sales which is strange because I really like going to them.

Anyway, have a good Saturday guys.

High of 80F today here, 83F in Sacramento where we'll be by lunchtime. Spending the weekend with my folks to celebrate Mother's Day. Last night's awards banquet was awesome - it's a heart-filled evening celebrate student accomplishment.

Enjoy the weekend!

Nice weather again, but only a short walk as time was also short. All vehicles now inspected and good for another year. Have a good nite, all!

Just back from taking Louise, the young doe, to the vet. Two problems: she limps and we worried she is pregnant too young. The vet worked on her hoofs which are slightly deformed to see if that would help her walking. He also did an x-ray. She is pregnant but it is only one kid so he thinks she will be able to deliver it. She is a little over a year old and usually we donít let them breed until they are at least 18 months old, but somehow she got exposed.

Soon Taylorís (the visiting dog) family will be here to pick her up. Weíve thought about getting a dog but the chickens and goats keep us pretty busy. Taylor spends a month or two here every year.

I need to harvest for market tomorrow. 74 degrees and wind at 8 mph. Have a great Friday.
