I'm back! We had smooth driving, great weather, and saw lots of good friends. Unfortunately there was a bad tummy virus going around. Our friends came down with it first, then T got it on the way home. I was glad to be able to do most of the driving (I did about 500 of the 620 miles), but I am starting to have some symptoms now. Hopefully I won't get it as bad as the rest of the gang! I'm back to work (and to teaching at the Y later). Lots to catch up on! Missed you all!

Good Morning!

5 more days until vacation emoticon emoticon

My sister says she is definitely going to Indiana with me. We both need a break. My oldest sister is in the hospital, had a stroke and has a lot of rehabbing to do. She lives in PA in the house I grew up in. We will see her in September when we do Niagara Falls and then visit family in PA for a few days.

I chatted with my niece last night who was saying the weakness in my sister's hand, right side of her body, and slurred speech has her very agitated. I told her about the story board cards I had made for Gary when he lost his voice and couldn't communicate. She is going to check with the social worker at the hospital to see if they can come up with something like that for her. She is on thickened liquids and pureed soft foods for now.

This is yet another reminder to take care of ourselves and live each day in happiness that we can. Her years of untreated MS and smoking have caught up with her. Her husband is by her side 24/7 right now which is scary for his own health.

My brother in law here will be released from the hospital soon and return to the rehab center.

Life is definitely happening at a fast pace!

Time to go hop on the exercise bike. Have a lovely day everyone!

Susan, that last activity sounds like fun.

Pat, we always had this much rain and grass, we'd have to get a riding lawn mower. But all this rain and grass is so rare that I bet we never have this much again. So we'll just try to catch up with our nice new self propelled lawn mower and eventually we'll get back to no rain, no grass, and almost no mowing ever. I'm looking forward to it. emoticon

When I think of dessert, I think of a gallon of Ben and Jerry's and things like that...not something that is made of mostly bread, rice, or eggs. I should NEVER think of dessert...it's not healthy for me. emoticon

Mari, There Has To Be An Easier Way to do all this mowing! By the time you get the last part done the first will need it again. You are going to wear yourself out girlfriend! Rice Pudding, Bread Pudding, ah they are so good. I like to make my bread pudding with raisin bread. Susan I hope things work out for you with John. He seems like a good man. It is always nice to have someone to go around with. Linda, Shell and Joann, Callie girl hope you are all doing well. Hugs to all. Pat

Gosh Marilyn that's a lot of mowing!

Had a fantastic time at Improv this afternoon. My troupe had me rolling with laughter several times. I learned some more technique, which is always a plus.

In one of the last activities, we had to establish who we were, where we were, and our relationship to our partner (two person scene) within the first three lines. We are getting stronger as a troupe.

Susan, I hope you figure out just the right place to be on your anniversary. emoticon

I'm a real junk food-aholic with a super charged sweet tooth, and when my parents (they are 83) mention rice pudding, bread pudding, egg custard, and things like that my brain makes the emoticon face. Spoiled modern kid that I am, I could never warm up to those desserts. Now give me an old fashioned cobbler and we're talking. emoticon

With me literally mowing 2-3 hours a night, it's still going to be a long time until I have our front yard mowed (it's about an acre). So I'll be at it for 3 hours again tonight. I'm going to try to take a little nap before I go out to mow. I'm so exhausted when I come back in, it's all I can do to take care of the animal night chores and take a shower.

Missing Jo-Ann and her posts. emoticon

Callie I adore your photo!

I agree with Lightly, snakes freak me out!

Five more working days until vacation. I am looking forward to it! The original plan is for my sister and I to go to Shipshewana, Indiana the 16th and 17th. We have our reservations but with her husband still in the hospital, I'm not sure she can make it. If not, I have until Saturday morning to cancel and then figure out something else to do on the 17th, which is my first wedding anniversary as a widow. I want to make sure I am OUT of town that day and doing something to nurture myself.

I am casually dating a wonderful man, John, whom you've seen me post about, but I think it might be too much to ask him to keep me company on that day. I will pray about this and seek my answer.

Last night, I took myself to the movies and saw Fantastic Four. The movie wasn't as good as the original, but maybe because like so many re-makes, I already knew what to expect. The popcorn was over priced and overly salty. I will remember to not buy it next time. Then I took myself to dinner at one of the few remaining "memory" places that I'd not been to yet, a family run restaurant that has fantastic rice pudding, which I had after my meat loaf dinner.

This morning I slept in until 8 AM , which is a rarity with two hungry cats in the house, and now having breakfast and some cuddle time with them before heading out to the grocery store. Improv class is this afternoon.

Have a lovely week everyone!

Oh Lightly, they freak me out too! Before you joined the group, I told the others about walking in our pasture and I squatted to pick something up and when I stood up, all the sudden I felt "biting or stinging" and you should have seen me jump a mile high and scream very loud like a "girl" because I thought I'd been bitten by a snake or attacked by wasps. But instead it was a piece of cactus that got stuck to my pants and then fell on my lower leg.! emoticon

Plus one of my horses almost died many years ago when he was bitten by a rattlesnake and a neighbor's dog died when he was bitten (I held him until they drove off to the vet with him) and another neighbor's dog lost an eye because of a snake (we killed the snake for them). So we kill all rattlesnakes...the only thing we ever kill but we allow the bull snakes to live because they kill rattlesnakes. I did scream loudly when I was surprised by a bull snake in Sammy's outdoor stall...I'm always glad no one is around when I scream. emoticon

When we lived in a city with much more water, I kayaked all the time. Wish I could canoe with you. emoticon emoticon

I mowed for three hours...I didn't know my hands were very sore from all the mowing I've been doing until I started mowing this evening. Wow, they are sore. I usually wear work gloves but I'm afraid they would make me overheat because it's so hot outside. Still have a lot of mowing to do. emoticon emoticon

Hi,

Hope you all had a wonderful day. I am whipped! My daughter and I went canoeing. It was so peaceful and beautiful. There were honeysuckle bushes and mimosa out on the lake. I looked up calories burned- over 800. Yowsa! Now to keep from putting that back on tonight!

Oh snakes,....you are so brave Marilyn, omg. They freak me out to no end. Maybe it is different when they are in abundance and a way of life????

Neat pics Callie!

That's all the reading I did of the thread. I'm going to watch the "House MD" series on DVD and prolly go to bed early.

Oh Callie, I am so trying to keep comments to myself when I want to speak out in different situations. I have a real hard time with people texting or on the phone when driving. If I see someone doing it I want to holler out to put it away, it is against the law and very dangerous. In stead I start seriously praying for them. I am really trying hard not to judge or complain but pray instead. There is a wonderful Catholic Saint by the name of Padre Pio. I was bless to be able to go to his center today which was in Pa. There is another one in New Jersey. I loved going there seeing all his things and learning even more about this holy man. I prayed for us all. Especially thought of Mari and Robert knowing they are Catholics too. Mari, hope you did not overdo today! Give ear rubs to our fur kids. Love to all. Pat

Callie, that is a good story to go along with your pictures. I could stand to learn to not speak up so often, myself. emoticon

Got a lot of mowing done yesterday evening and I'm going to try to start an hour earlier even though it's still 95. Today is cooler than it's been and the temp will only go down so I'm going to give it a try, with lot so cold water breaks.

You know we've been way too busy when it's restful for R to get to go to work and control air plane traffic. emoticon As we get a few more things done regarding our neighbor and making sure she is safe, we should eventually not be so busy and have so many worries in that area of life. Her former daughter in law and one of her long time friends (she had shut both of them out of her life) are now going to get to act as her guardians. I know they care about her and have her best interests in mind, whether she wants help or not. Once she has been off alcohol long enough, she may start wanting to live again although right now we don't know that she will even get out of ICU.

This challenge hasn't gone well for me but I have continued to work out each day and mostly eat right. R is such an inspiration that I can't stray too far off the good eating path when he's done so well at changing his bad eating habits so dramatically. I'm hoping life will slow down so we can get back to walking/biking together but for now we've been so busy and it's been so hot, we each get out workouts in when we can and that hasn't been together.

I was so tired after mowing last night that I went past the stage of sleeping well to the stage of being too exhausted and muscle sore to fall asleep. I may be adding to that in a few minutes but I did get a nap this afternoon so that helped. Doing anything in this heat can wear a person out. I pace myself and get a drink each time I empty the grass catcher.

Callie, it will be nice for you not to have to mess with gasoline. emoticon

Hi ALL

I am hearing thunder coming my way. Hope there is rain with it.

OK...if I don`t bore you...here is my photo for tomorrow...."Something New" I had thought about this and could only think of something tangible but I had not bought anything new so I had no idea of how I was going to do the photo challenge for the day. Here is what happened, unexpectedly.

I was in line at Costco and this grumpy older man came right up behind me (in that personal space) I felt crowded and he said grumpily to anyone who would answer...."what is the hold up?" The line had come to a halt and even though I had suspected why...I didn't respond to him. He kept complaining and you could see his by his body language that he was very frustrated. The cashier was cordial but you could tell she was irritated with him, but she said that they were waiting on a price check. During all this...I never said a word to him and usually I would try to be kind and say something that might appease someone who is angry. But I didn`t. I actually recognized that "hey....this was new to me" because I kept my mouth shut and I loved enjoying my silence. It was new...so very new. emoticon

The middle of summer is the most uncomfortable time for me since my body runs so hot all the time. So I look forward to fall and the things that remind me of fall.

This morning a bull snake followed R into the garage so he tried to chase it out and we can't find it now so we think he was successful. They are not poisonous and are enemies of rattlesnakes so we don't want to hurt them even if we don't want to be around them either.

We are still very busy with neighbor things but there are now two people who are willing to be her guardians, is she gets out of the hospital. She is back in ICU but may get sent to a regular room. Monday I will go to her house with the APS lady and the two friends that have also been trying to help her and we will look for a will and a directive and whatever the APS lady wants us to do. Now I'm just supporting her friends, who I have become friends with although APS also now considers us like "family" members and we have access to her info and visiting, as a family member would have.

R's feet and hands have been bothering more than ever but yesterday he had a cortisone shot in his bad knee and that seems to have helped his entire body so once he is done with the infusion treatments and the are able to put him on a short term high dose of cortisone, he may feel much better.

I would use icons but I'm on R's ancient (soon to be retired) XP computer and it is so slow that we try to do the bare minimum on it. Earlier today it was running so slow that I could only type one letter every 30 seconds. I'm glad that we are getting a new computer and R will inherit my very good computer. I had wanted to get him a better computer for a long time and now he is ready to let me set him up with a good computer.

(big heart and hug icon here) haha

Good Morning Everyone!! Callie, I love seeing your pictures. I love doing scrapbooks with all my pictures and putting descriptions of who and what they are . Our youngest daughter loves to do the same especially with her family pictures. Mari, sounds like you are getting slowly but surely the grass done. Good for you. Like Callie, I would be very nervous about the snakes!! Another day of hot and humid weather so another day in. Fran is going to go and get some peaches that I am going to freeze . There is a store nearby that has whole chickens on sale so I am going to get Fran to pick them up also. I feel like getting ready for winter , storing my nuts like squirrels. I truly hope I do not get a bushy tail though!!

Callie, you are not boring me. I'm enjoying your pictures and your descriptions of them and your day. I have a picture of me that looks so much like Christy's picture on the right. emoticon And Stormy was such a pretty dog, thanks for that picture because I knew you had a dog and now I know what she looked like.

Lightly, sometimes when I have to do indoor walking and can't use my treadmill (because we lost electricity) I will put my wrist weights on while I do loops in the house. I know it gives my shoulders a workout because I feel it the next day and the extra weight burns more calories. emoticon

Pat, do take care of yourself with the heat. At least climbing your walls will mean you are in the house with AC. emoticon

We've only seen three rattlensnakes this year and that is a record low for us. It's due to our strange weather but also due to the fact that R has CIDP now and can't go for walks with me. That's kept me off the trails and actually working out in the house more.

As far as mowing, because the grass is so tall, I'm taking just slivers off at a time and I'm behind the mower so I'm well within the short grass when I'm mowing the long grass. More likely than me getting bitten by a snake is that a snake will get chopped up by the mower, which I would never want to see. emoticon

R reminded me that a week ago our insurance company sent us a letter that we'd be responsible for the $430,000 of infusions treatments he's had so far. Of course this letter upset us but the insurance company made a mistake and mis-coded a lot of things and now we are back to "just" paying $7000 this year. Still R had to spend many hours on the phone and at the hospital, getting the mistake fixed.

Even though it will still be hot at 6pm this evening, I'm going out then to get in two hours of mowing. That two hours burns about a 1000 calories according to my smartwatch and heart rate monitor. Nice to burn calories and actually get work done at the same time. emoticon

Hi ALL

emoticon for all the conversation over D in his cowboy hat. It was fun to read.

Marilyn...how many rattle snakes have you encountered this year? Is it also because of the rain?

Susan....I hope all get settled on who will sleep with who on your trip. Do you have a special person that you want to be with?

Pat....Oh my!!! you must have been really sock from the heat. I have been sick over it before but not like you. Take care out there!

Lightly....cold and rainy???? my kind of day...good soup weather

My taxes are not done yet. I cancelled on Tuesday because she was downloading Windows 10 and it was my idea just to hold off on it....and when she came today...she feels that we don`t have to file because we paid no taxes from earned income. We don`t have any income...just Social Security. But she ill get back to me and she is coming back with a used electric mower for us. She gave it to her son but he never uses it. It is old...but who cares....our gas one is giving us major problems. D thinks it can be fixed by changing the spark plug and my cousin offered to help. That was a huge surprise.....he never offers too much. He is like a mole out there in the small trailer he lives in...never see him hardly. I guess that is a good think because he never bothers me either.

Now D wants to know what we are going to do??? I don`t want to do anything...just scrap book and mess with pictures on my computer. I uploaded 20 some folders of pictures to my Walgreens account yesterday and still have more. This way, if my computer crashes...all my pics will be safe.

I have been doing a 30 day picture challenge with my daughter who lives in Missouri...today is day # 15....animals. (This is what all my pictures will look like and then I need to write a description about them to add to the album.)

This is Stormie.....she was D`s dog and she was very smart. She got out of the fenced yard and got ran over 2 summers ago. She loved water and it was so fun to take her to the cabin and go hiking around the lake. She was Australian Shepherd and Queensland Heeler

This is for tomorrow.....day # 16 "memories"

These are my 2 precious daughters when they were babies. Cory is on the left and she hates this picture but I love it because she was always so tenderhearted. I am sure she was crying because she was scared of the photographer. But either way....this is the only baby picture of her that I have about the same age as Christy. I have always called her my "Tenderheart Bear " after the CareBear.Christy has always been bubbly and cute. Cory hates the picture because she is crying and Christy is laughing. The lady is a picture that I have on my wall by these photos....I love it and it always reminded me of how I loved holding my babies.

Corys` and my album will be combined. We are making 2 set of pictures...one for me and on for her. It will be about $30 when all is done but such a wonderful gift.

Here is another one...then I won`t bore you any more.

Wednesday...day # 15...technology

I love my laptop, my cell phone and my camera. This technology has kept me connected to family and friends .

Well...guess I will say emoticon for now. Hope your day is blessed.

If you want to see more...then I will post them emoticon
All these pictures will be 4X6 prints. (as well as Corys`) and they will be added to the same album.

Sitting here watching the Phillies game. Hubby went fishing with his brother since our granddaughter was coming over to "watch" me. It is quite warm again so I am staying in. Going to go stir crazy if I have to stay in too long though. If it cools down enough I want to go out to dinner otherwise I will be climbing the walls. ( Wonder how many calories that would burn)!! Have to look that up, guess it wouldn't be the same as rock climbing! lol. I know vet costs are really high. We spend a lot on Muffin trying to save her but couldn't which broke my heart. She was fifteen and such a sweetie. Mari, hope all goes well with Robert. Give ear rubs to our fur kids.

Good morning,
Woke up to a cold rainy morning so that cancels out swimming and my walk at least so far. Planning on watching a movie or two, and trying to motivate to exercise while watching movies. My get up and go got up and went though, so I don't know if that is going to happen! I may just put on my ankle and wrist weights. That way I keep getting in exercise/toning from just moving at all.

Pat, so sorry you got sick so it's good you do stay in until the weather is better for you...maybe we need some fainting icons to go with the vomit icons. emoticon

So glad you checked in Callie. I love the pictures of D and you are right, that hole in his boot really adds character to the picture. emoticon

Susan, I am such a hermit, shy person that I wouldn't be able to sleep in a room with someone else. I really am like that, it's so annoying but I can't help it. I have trouble sleeping anyway so another person would seal the no sleep deal. Now days I sleep with our oldest, sickest cats so R gets to sleep alone and snore all he wants. Even he will keep me awake but that is because he snores all night. emoticon

We went ahead and took my computer to the Geek Squad so they can work it over since Windows 10 had really messed it up. I've never needed help fixing my computer before but I think it'll be less stressful for them to help us this time. MS is still insisting I drive my computer to about 500 miles to one of their stores so they can fix it for free but that's not going to happen. emoticon That's just crazy.

Amy and Knick got their blood tests and Amy had a bump taken off her face. Two weeks ago a closer vet gave her antibiotics for it, to see if it went away but it didn't...our regular vet thinks it's cancer as do Robert and I so she did a deep biopsy on Amy while she was sedated and she'll call us tomorrow with the results. The blood tests results will be ready in a few days. Our vet costs over the last two weeks have been over $1300 and most of it has been preventative care but we wanted to do those things so we are prepared for what is facing our very old cats. Overall, most of them are doing very well for their ages and Calico, who is 16 and has diabetes is doing great. She acts like a giant kitten with all her running and playing.

Tomorrow R will see his knee doctor and then we hope things can slow down some. We are pretty worn out and R starts a long work week tomorrow, with 10 hour days while I'm going to be mowing the lawn as much as I can with our heat...I guess we really aren't going to be slowing down yet. emoticon

Pat I hope you get a break from all this soon.

Well, today was a real bummer. Went to Outreach today which I never should have done! I got severe reaction to the heat and humidity and ended up in Urgent Care with heat frustration. I felt like I was going to pass out, threw up and was so dizzy. They hydrated me then check to be sure it was nothing more serious. I am to drink until I float and stay in the air conditioning until the humidity is down below 40 percent and it no more than 80 degrees. That is probably going to mean I am in most of the rest of the month. I definitely will not overdo as I felt so horrible and still not great! I am glad though Susan I do not have a sore throat I do not like warm jello either! Like Mari I would probably gag. Yep, Callie I agree. David is a Hunk!!! Linda, Shell, Joann hello. Wishing all the best. Pat

Marilyn....are you getting so much rain that you want to give it away??? You must be getting a lot.

Pat....I hope the coming summer days get more comfortable for you. Breathing must be hard for you this time of year.

I had an OK day...just did things I needed to do. My taxes were canceled (my decision) as the lady was trying to download windows 10 and at 9:30 when I called her...she had only 27% done. She said she would still come over and see my paperwork but I felt it was a waste of time so I rescheduled for this Thursday....she was appreciative.

We just got back from the casino. We have not been for 2 years and I thought it would be fun to go. I always set a limit of $10 (big deal) and once that is gone...we leave. True to fashion....we spent about 40 minutes in there and that included walking around to see if we wanted to eat dinner there. I decided to come home for dinner and spend $25 another time.

Thought I would check in and say "Hi".

Thank you, Marilyn & Susan for the nice compliments about D and I. He does look very handsome with his beard. I think he looks sexy also.

I took this one just yesterday a/m.

Here is a close up of the beard growth , so far. He can`t grow a long one...I am grateful for that. It will be all filled in , in a few more weeks. ...at least as much as it is going to.

I took this one when we went to the rodeo on Fathers` day. This one I posed him so we could see the hole in his boot...I felt it really added quite a bit of character to the photo. It is one of my favorites. I have it in a frame on my kitchen shelf where I do dishes.

Susan, until we get that grass mowed, we can't let the horses out to graze or the dogs in the front yard, which is the place we like to play with them the most. It's just too dangerous with our rattlesnake problem. But the mowing is a great workout for me so at least I'm getting two things done when I mow...shorter grass and a hard workout. emoticon

I'm sorry John is sick and also, I think warm jello would make me gag. emoticon (we need a vomit icon). emoticon

It's good to get in those cries about missing Gary and doing so at someone's memorial is a good place to do it. Memorials are for those you love and care about and it's ok if you were thinking about Gary then. emoticon

Yes Callie, those pictures of you and D show a very attractive and well matched couple. emoticon

I have spent so much time on the phone with Microsoft about the botched Windows 10 upgrade and they are telling me I have to drive to their physical stores about 100s of miles from my home so my computer can be fixed. I urge you guys to hold off on upgrading to 10 if you can do so because it's no where ready to be released.

BUT, I have been googling for ways to fix this problem and a guy in Germany had the answer. It worked! emoticon

Wow ! Pasture grass! Sounds like a place to hide snakes :(

John has a cold. We talked on the phone tonight and he sounds awful, poor thing. His throat is sore, I told him to drink warm jello, and he thought I was kidding. It's the one thing that always helps me when I have a sore throat, coats it to take away the pain.

I will probably not see him til the weekend, if he's feeling a little better. Our group is doing Karaoke Saturday and he said he'd join us if he could, not to sing, but for me to sing to him. I have a couple of old school 70's songs picked out. "No Sugar" by The Guess Who and "Rolling Down that Highway" by the Doobie Brothers. I also have a couple of newer songs on my play list this time.

Tonight after work, I went to a vigil for a friend's Mom. It's the first I've attended since Gary's and towards the end I was crying. They didn't know it was for him, and it's ok. They were good tears.

My brother in law is not doing well, getting worse instead of better and now on an ng tube. I am praying for him and my sister as I know all too well what she is going through.

Callie the one thing Gary would NOT let me do is shave him. The pics of D on Facebook with his beard grown out were very good looking, dare I say SEXY? You too are one HOT couple!

Pat I am so sorry this weather has got you down. Asthma is rough in this weather for sure.

Well, our lite dinner got moved to Thursday because my friend had something come up, and then I found out about the vigil so I would have had to cancel it anyway.

I can't believe that we'd want to be sending anyone rain but for the first time ever, we'd love to send you our rain Pat. Wish we could really do that. We'll send some tall green grass too...it's just amazing that we have a real pasture in our front yard. emoticon emoticon

I have had such a rough two days sleeping at night. I have trouble getting to sleep then if I wake up to go to the bathroom I have trouble getting back to sleep! Over the last two nights I have only had about four hours of sleep. I really felt it today no energy at all. I think it is a combination of overdoing with church work, a new heart medication and too much on my mind. I have even taken an over the counter sleeping aid which does not help that much. I took a three hour nap this afternoon. I felt ready to drop so I laid down and was out in a second. It was super hot today and very humid. Chance of some T-storms later tonight. Hope so we need the rain, Mari, you can send me some of yours please! Hope all had a great day, Hugs to all.

Susan, you are having a great dessert! emoticon

Callie, loved hearing about your days. My lawn mower isn't electric so I still have to fill it with gas but it is very easy to start and it is self propelled so if I push the bar to do self propel, all I have to do is hang on because off it goes with no effort on my part. emoticon I've always been afraid I'd run over the cord if I ever got an electric lawn mower. emoticon

I've enjoyed visiting with Cory and I think her pictures of Riley, that I see on Facebook, are so cute...so is Riley's little dog. D having a beard seems like a good way for you to begin shaving him. That way there is less shaving than if he didn't have a beard. Hope you get some tax money back and get to take D for steak dinner.

I grew up watching Gunsmoke, Rifleman, and Bonanza, and one of my favorites was Rawhide. Plus I watched all the old western movies. I remembering be so disappointed when I would think I was going to get to see John Wayne in a move and it turned out to be John "Payne". emoticon

Gotta go spend time on the phone with Microsoft because installing Windows 10 messed up something on my computer. Two hours on the phone yesterday did not fix it. emoticon

good a/m everybody

I can`t believe how fast the das are going. I have been busy doing scrapbooking, uploading pictures to my Walgreens account for this 30 day photo challenge that I have been doing with my daughter in Missouri, visiting with family and friends........busy stuff.

Marilyn, I am so happy about the news. Cory said that you and she have emailed back and forth a few times.I sent her your report about R as she was asking me about him.

I have thought also about buying an electric lawn mower so I can do it myself.

A new thing has happened....I am now shaving D. Only because he is growing his beard back and does not understand how to shape it and clean it up.

I have been lying low about my computer time as I have been spending so much time doing pictures and that is more time on the computer than I thought. But I have been enjoying it.

I would love to go to the Amish area. The simple life has always intrigued me. That is an interesting fact about me an surprises so many....that I am country girl at heart.

D and I have been watching a lot of westerns on tv...movies as well as Bonanza, Rifleman, and Gunsmoke.

The weather here has been HOT but we had a beautiful rain last Friday evening.

Susan....you are going to Chicago??? I have never been. If I could afford to go anywhere...it would be New York City. I hear it is very busy, though.

I am getting my taxes done today. This lady worked for H&R block and now has gone out on her own. I had to file for an extention because Healthcare did not send me the form I needed to do my taxes with. I finally got it after 3 calls to them but I received it late June. We now live only on Social Security but because I got a heath care tax credit...I must file taxes. If we get any $$ back...I have in mind to take D out for a good steak dinner. I don`t buy steak and when I do...I feel I don`t cook it well. We do eat a lot of chicken of which is my favorite food.

D is still asleep. He had a restless night and woke me up several times . I still managed to get up at 5:00 a/m to talk to my daughter at 5:15....7:15 her time in Missouri. It will change later in the fall to only one hour difference so then it would make my call about 6:15. With our calls, FB and pictures......it really closes the gap.

She and her family are coming out mid Oct. for about a week. Tried to keep it a surprise but D has been informed.

I have yakked enough...don`t want to overstay my welcome.

I know I don`t have to say this...but I think of you all EVERY day. You are such huge part of my life. Thank you for loving me.

Susan, your meal sounds great...so good and healthy, at the same time. And thanks for another picture of the kitties...I still have Houdini and Rascal on my fridge via the magnet. emoticon

We are heading to 102 for the rest of the week. emoticon R is always busy and that's why he falls asleep the minute he sits down. But we are sure that his exercising and activity is part of what has allowed him to stay so mobile even though he has nerve damage. We are continuously researching about CIDP.

I'm going to bed early again. I overexercised in the heat and still feel the affects of doing so. Have a great night! emoticon emoticon

R is really a marathon man! Wow~

And with all those fitness calories on your vivo, you are doing great Mariln!

I was able to fix the lamp. There is a piece that had screwed loose. She is a scamp indeed. It's been decades since I had a kitten too small.

But, when she's not getting into things, she cuddles up with Houdini. This was them this morning:

I've got our singles group Chicago Christmas Shopping trip planned and some of the folks are coming to my house for light dinner tomorrow so we can purchase our train tickets at the same time over the internet. I've got six hotel rooms reserved and they will be given reservation numbers to call and add their credit card to.

I'm making wrap sandwiches with flatbread, 97% fat free honey ham, turkey, 2% cheese, lettuce and diet dressing. Will serve with a scoop of low fat cottage cheese, half a sandwich and fresh cantaloupe, honeydew and strawberries. I have bottled water and skim milk as beverage choices.

It's in the 90's here and we had a huge thunderstorm with hail during the night. I didn't lose power, although a lot around me did. By Wednesday it will dip to the 70's a few days. My favorite temperature range :)

Have a lovely night ladies!

Oh Magic, you little scamp! emoticon

Every now and then I have to watch Batman shows for hours, with R...actually, once they start, R falls asleep so then I don't have to watch them. emoticon

I miss Callie and Shell...I do see Callie's pictures on Facebook though.

It's getting even hotter here and I've been getting worn out with my outdoor chores. Still I'm going to do more yard work this evening since all our rain has sent the plants on a growing spurt (with a vengeance). When I mowed the lawn for 2 hours the other night, I wore my heart rate monitor with my Vivoactive and I burned over 950 calories and my heart rate got up to 173. emoticon No wonder I got so tired.

Another busy week for us...we are waiting for results on our cats' tests, tomorrow the handyman fixes our garage door, Wed we take two more cats to the vet about 60 miles one way (that vet is worth the long trip), Thur R sees his ortho doc about his knee, and Sat R starts a week of working from 5pm to 4am because they are so short handed at work.

emoticon to everybody!

Loved Batman as a kid. I could just hear you saying that Marilyn.

Pat how's the asthma going? Hope it's not bogging you down too much.

Callie I'm missing you but enjoying your photos on Facebook.

My 2.2 pound little Magic decided to land all four paws, claws out, on the lampshade in the living room. She was chasing a fly that had got in the house. I can replace the lampshade but the weight of her has loosened the socket from the base. I will ask John if he knows how to fix it. I just bought these lamps 4 months ago. Toddlers, such fun LOL!

Going to visit Shell's page and let her know we miss her.

Have a lovely day everyone!

Pat, perfect movie night for us is to rent some movies and then lay on the floor among lots of pillows, with cats sleeping all over us. R will be snoring beside me of course, since he can't stay awake if he isn't moving or working. emoticon

I would love to see Amish country some time.

Susan, I'm very allergic to cats and my daily Claritin D 24 hour and Singular (prescription) make living with them possible for me.

Looking forward to your blog.

I didn't get out early enough for my walk so I....um....not croaked like a frog...um...almost bit the dust, after my 5 miles? emoticon I'll get out earlier tomorrow. emoticon

BTW, when it's really hot outside, I say "Holy heatstroke Batman!"...R and his family watched all the old Batman TV shows and R still watches the DVDs sometimes so I get Batman sayings stuck in my head. emoticon

Welcome Lightly!

Ladies, ladies, I can't invite John to my living room and sit in my jammies with him after two dates LOL! Yes, he is being respectful and patient which are two of the qualities that appeal to me. He is a member of the singles group I belong to and we first got to know each other over several group events before he asked me out.

I am going to post a blog in a few minutes of all the memes I made for our upcoming anniversary. I had also posted them on facebook. I was originally going to do one per day and finding that a bit too painful.

Good Day Everyone! Welcome Lightly! So glad you could join us! Susan, so sorry to hear about your BIL. May I ask how old he is? I am in my 70's with two heart attacks. I have told my husband that if I stop breathing let me go! I have lived a good life and am ready to go. I would like to be able to see my grandchildren married first with great grandbabies but will have to see what the Lord has in mind for me and them!! The Pa. Amish we visit on in Lancaster mainly but we go to other areas like Intercourse. There is still so much farm land there , so beautiful to see especially in the Spring when they are planting their gardens , the little ones helping and in the Fall when they harvest everything. I truly admire these people as they are hard workers and deeply devoted to family. Susan, sounds like things are moving along with your new male friend. So glad you have found someone to go out and about with and he respect you! Mari, I have not been to the movies in a long time. I usually wait until it is on the movie channel on t.v. I can sit in the comfortable of my own home, not pay for popcorn and be in my jammies if I want! I know, I know, I am getting old !! So Be It!!! lol. Love to all, Pat

Susan, sending prayers for your BIL, sister, and family. emoticon

Last time I went to a movie was back when "The Others" came out and that might have been 25 years ago. If we went to one with recliners, R would be asleep immediately, esp since he'll fall asleep any time he sits down. At least he would be comfortable but I'd have to elbow him every time he snores. It'd be just like watching movies at home. emoticon

That would be nice to work 4 miles from home. Hope that opportunity presents its self to you.

Lightly, Susan lost her husband after a long illness, and now she is dipping her toes as far as dating is concerned. We have several others on the list who are also single.

Pat and Susan, I've never been near Amish country but I enjoy reading about the Amish. This is totally different, in a not good way, but we did live in San Angelo and were near a famous polygamy cult compound. That doesn't count at very interesting though except it creeped me out whenever I hauled my horse to ride with a friend on a ranch near the compound. (I may have use a word weirdly again Pat, when I wrote creeped). emoticon

Oops forgot to give the jobs update.

I haven't heard about the position I applied for yet, but another manager in our group has resigned which means there is now a position open should I be the displaced one, at a branch about 4 miles from home. I can breathe a little easier knowing that one.

EARLY (2;55 AM) Sunday morning Hello.

Sheila I've not painted laminate before, and glad I read about it from you so I"ll never try to.

Mari you are going to need an ark at this rate! Hope all the kitty vet reports come back in good shape.

Pat how as PA Amish/Dutch Country? Which part were you in? My sister and I are going to Indiana Amish area in mid-August.

It's been a long day. At 7 AM I got a text from my niece informing me Gary's Brother (who is married to my Sister) had stopped breathing at the nursing home and had been taken to the ER by ambulance.

I heard from her again at 8:30 just before starting work that she had heard no updates, and we agreed that's probably a good sign. At 10 I got a text from the guy I went to the car cruise with to see if I'd like to go to dinner tonight. I called and explained that I'd love to but needed to find out first about this family situation.

I visited brother in law in the hospital this afternoon, after work. They kept him overnight (and possibly longer) as his hemoglobin is dropping. They had used the paddles to zap him back to breathing at the nursing home and then transported him by ambulance to the hospital. My sister was there along with my oldest nephew and my great nephew.

I left the hospital at 4:30, called John to confirm where we her having dinner, drove straight there and we had a nice dinner and were still sitting there talking an hour later so I asked if he'd like to see a movie. We saw Minions at a theater where all the seats were power recliners. It was so comfortable! We both enjoyed the movie which is a prequel to the Despicable Me movies. The evening ended with a hug and a kiss on the cheek (progress!)

We will go out again. I greatly appreciate that he is willing to move a little slow and be a gentleman. One hiccup, he's allergic to cats! I will be finding out what kind of Benadryl to stock before I invite him to my home for dinner some day, or he'll have to eat on the porch.

Now I really need to go to sleep. I had fallen asleep on the couch after I got home and woke up about an hour ago.

emoticon Pat, now that I think about it, I was so exhausted from the work I was doing, in the heat, that I'd probably have silently passed out...no croaking like a frog. emoticon

I hope the cats get good blood work reports too but Tiger does seem to be declining. Hopefully whatever the reason is, we can correct it with DRUGS. emoticon As our dogs and cats have aged, prednisone seems to be the miracle drug that adds a lot of quality time to our older pets' lives.

And that same drug may be what the docs put R on next year...a high dose for his immune disease. I know it can have bad side effects but it sure has helped my older pets enjoy life longer.

All our cats have always been indoor cats. We have always had what we call the "cat room" in each house we've owned. Usually it's a fully enclosed heated/air conditioned back porch that we've built on or was already part of the house. That's where our dogs' crates are too. This allows me to visit all the pets and get all hairy without the house being too hairy. Our special needs/sick cats end up sleeping on me in bed though so I guess that doesn't work too well. emoticon After I've brushed the gang, the washer is near that room's door and I'll put my clothes in the wash and take a shower to get the hair and allergens off me.

I know I'll sleep good tonight with all the hard work I did. emoticon

Hope all the cats come back with good reports. Max, our cat is seventeen years old now and doing really well. He has always been a totally inside cat. Totally spoiled with his own bed, air conditioning and treats every night before bed. This guy has got it made!!! Mari, just curious, why do you say so you don't croak! Sound like a frog on a lily pad!!! Just kidding! Couldn't resist!!! I know I am bad to the bone picking on you!! We went to Penna. Amish Dutch area today. They have such wonderful produce at very ,very good prices picked fresh that day from their gardens. Love it! Hope all sleep well tonight! Hugs to all. Pat

Shelia, I've never used poly before on furniture because I'm afraid I'd mess it up. emoticon But I have used a poly spray on the metal legs of a bench, and four coat/hat hangers made of horse shoes and rasps. That worked out well but all those things are rugged looking and I don't think I would be able to see a mistake anyway. I also did metal stair rails, all made by my farrier's husband so he was using mostly horseshoeing supplies that needed the poly to keep them from rusting.

I think you did good with your eating. By paying attention to how you felt and doing what was needed, you kept yourself from having a big crash, which often leads to a binge.

Today we took our old cats Tiger and Polly to the vet for their geriatric blood work. We'll get the results Monday. They are 16 years old...Polly is almost blind now and Tiger is looking less robust so we wanted to check them out. Tiger has looked good until just recently and I didn't even know Polly was losing her sight because she has adapted so well. We will go back to the vet on Wed with Amy (Tiger and Polly's sister) and Knickerbocker, out black cat who is 14 so they can get their blood work too.

I'm doing yard work right now and needed to come in and cool off before I croak. emoticon

It has been a long busy day but a productive one. I have been on the road and was able to do fine with the diet. I have been "low carbing" and was getting very low in energy which is not my usual so I ate some more carbs to rev up my energy and that worked fine. I am still under for my calories so it all worked out. The balance is very crucial because if you eat too many of them then it stalls the weight loss. I guess it is all about balance. At any rate I still need to get my cardio in so will get on that next. I am actually looking forward to it. Took yesterday off so I need to get moving again today. Still at 150 and I'm looking forward to breaking that barrier and getting under it.

Marilyn, tomorrow I will get back to doing another coat of poly on that table -- was just too busy today. The can recommends 3 coats. I am planning on 2 with a light sanding in between. Have you used poly before and do I really need 3 coats? Just wondering???

Hope this finds everyone well.

Later guys,

Sheila emoticon emoticon

Shelia, I've done some home improvement around here and I tried painting laminate before and you are right...don't do it...it's so hard to paint and hard to get the paint to stick. So I won't try it again but I did paint some laminate cabinets and it took forever but they are holding up ok.

Because we've had so much rain, it's a little cooler than usual here and that is the only thing that made no AC tolerable. emoticon

Glad you checked in Shelia! emoticon

Hi Guys -- just checking in to see how you all are doin. And you're cleaning toilets! And now I'm feeling guilty cause I should go clean mine. So maybe God's trying to tell me something. LOL! I guess I'll do that later on. Right now I am headed out to the barn (our 2 car garage with a shop on the back of it) and put a coat of polyurethane on my son's desk. We got it at Goodwill for $25 and I painted it 4 coats (ugh!) of Dark Forest Green paint. Now so it doesn't get ruined I'm putting poly on it to protect the surface. The top is laminate and the sides and legs are wood. A tip --never try to paint over laminate. It is a chore! I used a latex stain blocker as a primer but it was still difficult to cover that stuff. So hardwood only for this girl in the future. I do enjoy fixing up old furniture. At any rate Jeff is happy with the desk and anxious to use it after the poly dries.

Hope you all don't lose power again -- that doesn't sound good. In Virginia it is hot muggy and miserable if you outside. I am indoors almost always!

Later guys,

Sheila emoticon

I did toilets too, yesterday. emoticon And you tell those two young guys I sent to you that they are supposed to do toilets! emoticon

We lost our electricity from 8am to noon today but it's back now. Considering it's a hot summer, those hours weren't too uncomfortable but it would have been a lot hotter in the house this afternoon, if we hadn't gotten our electricity back.

R spent an hour on the phone with Blue Cross because we got a letter from them saying they were reviewing whether R's expensive treatments were covered. R's already had 10 of them and we would have never started them if they weren't covered and the hospital wouldn't have started them if they weren't covered since they know we sure can't pay for 1 treatment, let alone the entire cost.

Turns out they are covered still but Blue Cross got a lot of the coding wrong so all the paper work is spurting out saying we'll probably have to pay. The BC lady and her higher ups were very apologetic because to be sending a patient with a serious disease, having to get infusions, letters scaring them that they may have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars. emoticon

Glad R did get that cleared up so we don't have to worry about it. emoticon

A bit better today with the humidity. Got a lot of house cleaning done along with the wash. Good feeling of accomplishment. Hubby did our grass and the elderly neighbor across the street. Most of our neighbors are elderly so we try and help them as much as possible while we still can. Hey, Mari, it is so much fun doing the toilets. Wanna come over and see!!! lol

Pat, we had heavy rain this afternoon too. It's like the weather has forgotten that we live in a very dry desert because we aren't dry now. emoticon The home repair guy came this morning and got more done in 3 hours than we could have gotten done in three months...he just has to come back to make some modifications to our electric garage door.

I felt like Huckleberry Finn, making the kids around him thinking that getting to paint a fence was the most fun thing ever invented. That's what I did with our new lawnmower. I showed R how much fun I was having using that new mower and now he wants to have that fun. emoticon
