Susan, praying you get the job you applied for. Even if it is less money as you said it will be a lot less stress. That is so much better. We gals are good at nipping and tucking our money went need be! Joann, have a wonderful trip. Hope your weather is great for you! Mari, you and R are such an inspiration to me. Your new lawn motor sounds like it will work well for you two. Do the fur kids help too??? Give them ear rubs from me. Was a bit less humid today. Our oldest granddaughter stopped by. We took her to lunch then stopped by the library to pick up some books that I ordered. Had a heavy downpour with some thunder lightening . We really needed the rain too. Made it a bit less humid too which was a pleasant change. Hope all have a great night and a super Friday! Hugs to all. Pat

We are going to miss you Jo-Ann. Have fun! emoticon

It's rained again last night and it raining now...we are over 7 inches of rain for the year now...for us that is a LOT. emoticon

We are waiting for a call from the home repair people to see if they still want to come today. Whether they come today or not, R and I don't have to go anywhere today so we will get another rare day without R having to go to town.

So glad to hear that things went pretty well at Rs appointment. I know your healthy habits are going to make a big difference for him.

Things are in crazy last-minute mode both at work and at home, and I've got 2 new and large kiddly classes plus an adult class at the Y. Hoo boy! I sure am looking forward to getting us out the door and on our way tomorrow. (T has to work until 5pm. I have to run errands, but will have a little time to do all the last minute stuff. We will pack most of it in the car tonight.)

Hugs to all, not sure if I'll be able to check in again here before I go~

Susan, I think it'd be wonderful if you could work from home because you'd get to be around Houdini and Magic more. emoticon emoticon

Pat, I know that our active life has been a very important part R doing so well despite the fact that he's lost nerve function in his feet. He still could do all the moves the doctor asked him to do and that's because he's lost no muscle strength since he works his muscles everyday. emoticon emoticon

Jo-ann, I wish I could be there to watch you with your water babies. emoticon emoticon

Calllie, it'll be nice for you to get to enjoy the improvement you do to your house, before you sell it. emoticon emoticon

Even though we were tired, we ended up going outside and doing chores because they needed doing. So while R took care of all the water troughs, I put together the new mower and started mowing. It's very nice and once R was done with his chores, I asked if he would like to try it. He could see that with this new mower that he could get the job done in a third of the time it takes with the old one and since it's self propelled, it's much easier on his body than the old one. So he's planning to get all the mowing done in the next few days. I had to be sneaky and say I was buying myself a lawn mower to get him to stop using that old one. It can still be used in the pasture for big clumps of weeds though. emoticon

Gosh miss one day and you miss a LOT on here!

Callie it is wise to plan now. I did the same. I just didn't expect to lose him as quickly as I did. You are absolutely right about how your are feeling and how others who haven't experienced the 24/7 caregiving don't understand the stress you are under.

It does sound like you are getting a great price for the roof and I'm glad to hear you will be able to get it fixed.

Marilyn so happy that you were able to get the mole removed although you did have to wait a long time for the doctor.

I applied for a different position yesterday in our auditing department. I probably won't get an interview for a few weeks. It's a new position (they are hiring three) to do back office investigations via computer and if chosen, I might even be able to work primarily from home. The pay is less than branch manager, but still very manageable for me and a LOT less stress.

Not looking forward to weigh in at TOPS tomorrow. I've not eaten well at all, and it will show on the scale. I will go anyway and maybe that will help me put the brakes back on.

Have a good night all.

Wonderful news Mari about Robert. It sounds like you have wonderful doctors that are staying on top of R treatments. Your healthy life style I am sure is really helping too. Good for you both. Today is another very hot and humid one . Was not able to volunteer at Outreach which saddened me because I really enjoy working with my church friends helping those in need but it was just too humid for me to go out. Praying for each of you all and sending positive thoughts!

The news about R is about as good as it can be in that he "only" had CIDP and does not have an additional immune disorder. The tests verified that his nerves are being destroyed by his immune system but his muscles are not being affected. The immunologist doesn't need to see him anymore so he'll just be treated by the neurologist from here on out. R is already getting the top treatment for CIDP, with the infusions. After those are over he will be getting plasma transfers and then, next year, he'll be hit with very strong steroids.

I bought myself a self propelled lawn mower today so I can take over most of our yard work. With all the rain we've been getting, even with the horses grazing in our huge front yard everyday, I still have a lot of lawn mowing to do. No way was I going to use the Walmart tiny lawn mower that R uses...he'll get to take care of mowing Sammy's round pen and our smaller back yard. emoticon

R is very happy with the news and I am too...we will keep on with our healthy living program and keeping us both strong and fit. R sees his knee doctor next week and then in a few weeks he'll see his neurologist. We are both pretty tired from everything that has been going on lately so instead of rushing out and using my new lawn mower, we are both going to take it easy this evening. emoticon

Leaving for R's immunologist right now to discuss the results of his last tests. Can't help feeling scared. I think the best we can hope for is that the doctor continues to rule out more of the most aggressive and deadly auto immune diseases. I'll be very happy if the doctor will just tell us what R has will progress slowly, although I do want the doctor to tell us the truth, whatever the truth may be.

Also we have been on the phone with the hospital as our neighbor has now been moved to ICU and they are searching for the closest kin. I've had to make a lot of phone calls to try to find a relative. I now think that through my neighbor's ex step daughter (who used to have a restraining order against her because my neighbor was threatening to kill her), that they will be able to contact her estranged sister.

Prayers for everybody! emoticon

It has been a busy month for work celebrations. A large work-group just hosted a cookout. My co-workers were all about the cake and cookies. I skipped the bun and cheese on my burger so I could have extra cole slaw. I might just be a little strange :-)

Callie, we lived in a condo for about ten years. It is wonderful that they take care of your lawn, etc. but the condo fees can climb which happened to us. We moved into a really nice community. When the time comes that hubby cannot do the yard work there are a lot of people who do it for seniors at a good price. Moving behind your daughter might be really nice. You are close to family if you need to be but have your own privacy which I agree is really important for both of you. My asthma is really bad today with a terrible cough. Will probably have to visit the doctor tomorrow to get a prescription of cortisone . I am lucky that they will take me without an appointment as they know me very well. I dread going out as it is suppose to be near 100 without the heat index. Mari, hope your fur children are doing well, especially Miss Kitty. I hope R is not jealous I asked about fur kids first. Praying for him too! Hugs. Susan,Shell, Joann and Linda thinking of you all. If I miss anyone I am sorry! Love to all. Pat

Pat, we live so far out of town (it was a 90 minute drive to this doctor) that we had to leave home before her office opened. What I do a lot of the time, esp if R is with me, is I'll get in my steps...I've walked laps around my podiatrists building, I've walked back and forth in this very doctor's office and I get in a few miles sometimes so at least I'm getting something done. emoticon I do think some of what happens in El Paso might be because this city is so big when you add in the people who come from across the border every day and doctors are in such short supply here, that it's very easy to overbook. But this particular doctor is usually pretty good about not overbooking so we were surprised to wait that long with her. emoticon

Callie, you have to plan. I wouldn't want to live with anyone but Robert either. Even though it's far away, we are actively planning for the time we move from this house because we see the need for certain things we want for our next home. We want to be near good hospitals and doctors, we do NOT want to live in or near El Paso, we do want a house with a yard in a very good neighborhood. And we are improving our house now for the idea of selling it later. emoticon

Jo-ann, glad you were able to go to the concert and not get rained out. You do such interesting and varied things and I enjoy hearing about them. emoticon

Susan, I did get to go to the concert. It rained nearby and looked threatening, but we were fine. We heard Klezmer music, a yodeling cowboy band, and some Cuban music. I'd hoped to go back to the festival over the weekend, but was too busy with other stuff. I did have some wonderful Malaysian food.

Pat...my plans are to sell and move into a condo. But I have talked about living in a small trailer behind my daughter who lives here in Phoenix. I will NOT live in their home. I need my privacy and so do they. I was told that when I sell....the roof needs to be in good repair or it can`t be sold until I pay out of pocket for it. We need it replaced any way so might as well do it now. I don`t feel guilty about planning ahead.....I have to. We have almost 1/2 acre...too big for me to handle and I hate my neighborhood. I live in a very diverse neighborhood. Many of my neighbors are Spanish and don`t speak English. They also don`t keep up their yards and homes. We live in the county so many are in violation . We also have my cousin living behind us and he is an eyesore. We keep our place very nice hoping others will follow suit but they don`t. I only know one neighbor. ...and we don`t neighbor. We have both lived here for many years....our daughters were friends in the 4th grade.

Mari, so glad that the mole removal was quick and easy. Sorry it took forever to get the procedure done! So typical of so many offices. Whenever I have a doctors office I call before I leave to ask if the doctor is running on time or if they are backed up . Our time is important too! Callie, Hope all goes well with your repairs. Sounds like the man is not too expensive which is a good thing. As for your thoughts on David. I so understand your feelings. It must be so overwhelming at times and it is very good that you are looking to your future on how you will be able to take care of yourself. My husband is for the most part in good health but I too, look to see how I will make out if the Lord takes him first. I am more concerned about taking care of our house. Our lawn is quite large and I would definitely have to have someone cut it etc. At least the roof is new, air conditioning and heating is new, as is the plumbing. As we get older we need to really think of these things. Not always pleasant thoughts but necessary. I am getting ready for bed, had a heart to heart talk with Max about Not waking me up at the crack of dawn. I am not sure he had his listening ears on!!!!

Callie, you're back! (((BIG SQUISHY HUGS))) Love reading your posts. emoticon

Just checking to say that my mole has been removed and is being biopsied although it's not supposed to be a bad one, just one that got in the way of my clothes. My appt was at 10 but didn't see the doc until 12:15 and once I saw her, she had the mole off within 5 minutes.

We just got back home and have been rushing to get R ready for work so I'll be back later when I've caught up with things here at home.

So glad to hear you had fun with your daughter, Callie. I hope the Grand Canyon trip is fun!

We're heading to our annual history convention out near Pittsburgh, PA. Some of our friends have already arrived, so we are getting eager to be on our way.

I haven't had time to read through all the posts, busy work day today.
Hugs to you and to the rest of the team, Callie.

Our cabin trip was wonderful...the 3 days with my daughter. The weather was perfect and so cool. we will be going back up on Aug. 10th and will take the man who has come back into our lives after 20 + years. He can`t drive...he just got his license (40 years old). I do not know all his circumstance except he has deep depression and 2 marriages behind him. I am sure I will learn more over time. Anyway, he made the statement that he would like to see the Grand Canyon so we invited him to go to the cabin with us and we will take him to the Grand Canyon...we have a free pass and it is only 1 hours drive from the cabin. He is very anxious to go and looking forward to it.

Marilyn......finding a handyman is such a blessing...I do believe I have found one as well. He doesn`t drive but we know of him because we have watched his work being completed as we have picked up a lady to go to church. He lives with her and has built mny things...a swing, 2 storage sheds, etc. We had to go pick him up to come over and do an estimate to roof our home. He is very fair...only $400 to roof and we buy materials. $10 an hour to take off the existing shingles. He is very fair . I am guessing he has lost his license due to drinking (in the past) but I really don`t know.

Pat...I am not dealing well with the heat either.

Susan...I am excited for you about your upcoming trips. I do think of you and am learning from you.

Jo ann...I will have to catch up with you but it sounds like you have a trip planned. Where are you going?

I have missed you all and have been thinking of you daily. emoticon for missing me, too. emoticon

I guess I will sneak over to the 5% Summer Challenge .

Blessings for a beautiful day emoticon

For some reason...my post was posted and I wasn`t done with my post.

My mind goes to "that in 5 years, I will be a widow. "He has been a dementia patient , going into his 7th year and I can see things progressing that no one else can. I think of the life insurance policy that we have and know that I will be OK.(actually we have several) I plan on things I will do when I am a widow (sorry) and expect it to be totally NOT what I think. My mind has to plan or I feel stuck. I will not get involved with another man...I do not want to take care of another one. Some days...I am so done with this horrible disease...I want it over. He is a believer of our Lord and that brings peace.

It is very lonely being a caregiver. Others say they care...and they do...but they have their own lives. I am not going to beg anyone to "friend" us. I have reached out in different ways but have stopped. My fault, I know... sorry...just not in a good place right now.

Hello emoticon

I am back and have been back for a while but have not been on SP. I have thought of all of you DAILY but have been curbing my computer time. I now I was wrong to not come and check in. My deepest apologies.

I have not even checked in with the 5% Summer Challenge. I will be leaving that team as I feel pressure to always check in and do the weekly weighins and exercising. It is too hot to exercise...even in my house.

I can not relate to you , Susan, in the same way but I do get a little "ruffled" when others say...I understand because I do the same thing (about memory loss). I want to really speak out that it isn`t only memeory loss. It is the agitation that comes, the sense of confusion, not being able to express yourself....need I go on and on? emoticon No one knows what dementia is like unless you are a caregiver 24/7. And being the spouse is another beast in itself. We treat each other differently (not always the best) . I am still learning each day about patience and of course I have very bad moments. I am angry because "he could have prevented it". No...he couldn`t...even though I have learned that diabetes is a big contributer and he could have managed that better. I am tired of dealing with this and I get angry. I don`t want to resent him...but some days I do.

Pat & Mari I hear you about cats and sleeping. Mine sometimes treat me like a trampoline! Other times, they just want to snuggle.

If Houdini thinks it's feeding time he will continue to pester me, first with head buts and meows, then move on to nibbling on my earlobe or elbow to wake me up. They sure have us trained well LOL!

Aside from waiting for him to have time to get to things (he does big contracting jobs and fits me in where he can), my handyman is pretty good. The work he did last year is still holding up. The one funny thing that happened last Thanksgiving when my kitchen sink needed snaked he said he didn't do that, he'd never had any luck with it, yet he's a licensed plumber. That one, I ended up fixing myself. Well, at least he was honest about his ability on that and didn't try to do it and mess it up.

Golf was fun in the 86 degree heat. We all needed a cold beverage afterwards and I didn't blink about paying $2 for a small bottle of Gatorade that I could have gotten at the store for much less. A couple of the folks then got buckets of balls for the driving range and the rest of us sat and watched them before we all went out for dinner.

Back to work Monday already....time flies!

Pat, I am a furnace all the time so the last thing I want to do is wear a sleep mask covering my eyes at night because that makes me even hotter. But our cat Calico will paw at my eyes and I'm afraid she'll get me with a claw someday. So I've been wearing this black sleep mask for about two years and I'd really like to NOT wear it but I'd rather keep Calico happy instead. She is 16 and the last of the litter that contained Waddles, Super Tiny, and Calico. She has diabetes and that's her excuse for getting everything she wants. Stress makes her glucose go up. I do get onto her when she paws at me and she's getting better about it but I still don't want to take a chance of my eyes getting hurt. emoticon

Sometimes the angels stop holding up folks who drink, for what I've seen lately. emoticon

R has loaded and unloaded our big hay loads for several decades but we are seeing that he might not be able to do it much longer. At the same time, all the exercise that R does may be what is helping R get around so well with the damage he has in his feet. We'll find out more when we see the doctor on Thursday. And tomorrow is my day to see my internist about my mole. I hope she'll take it off so we don't have to find another doctor to do it.

Night everybody, don't let the cats keep you up too late! emoticon Oh, did all of you go to Susan's blog and see Houdini hugging Magic? The picture is so cute. emoticon

Cats are stinkers at times. I had to put this out there. I know everyone seems to have dogs I have a cat. He Loves to wake me up crying and pawing me at 5:00 A.M. I usually am able to get up with him, give him a drink out of the faucet while I take a pee break and he will go back to sleep. Not this morning! He would not be quiet no matter what I did. So, I had to take a nap after church this morning as I was so tired. He of course slept as soon as I got up the bum! Alright then got that off my chest! lol, I am so thankful that Fran can do most of the handy work around here. I do worry sometimes what I will do when he can no longer do it. Honest, inexpensive help is hard to come by for sure! Mari, you talked about workers drinking. We had a highly recommended man to put in a chimney for a fireplace we had done. When he arrived he would not stand close to me and started putting up scaffolding . He was merrily whistling along so I left him be. I saw him take out a flask and said I hope that is not alcohol and if so he had to come down immediately. He said the angels in heaven were holding him. Mari, am so glad that Robert is doing well with his treatments. You get your work done this coming week don't you? Hope all have a wonderful week. Suppose to be very hot here. Going to think cool thoughts!! Hugs to all. Pat

Susan, I'm glad you have your handyman who you can trust. We had a very well recommended pro from El Paso do work at our place and had him do things following El Paso code, even though we don't have to follow code in the county we live in but we now know that man we heading deep into his drinking problems. He and his crew did some bad work for us, like not even using glue on some of the plumbing joints of our water line from the street and other things we would start having problems with lately.

Another guy who built our barn and fence, started out great but over time he got into drugs big time although we didn't know what was going on with him until later. It was hard to get him to finish his work and at some point I had R stop even calling him. That guy lost his full time job because of his problems, too. So because of things this guy did and didn't do, R and I are always doing extra repairs on the barn.

I hope R and I aren't somehow driving people to drink and drugs. emoticon Really though, the culture here makes drinking and drugs easy. We are more Mexico than USA, being so close to the border and drinking is such a big way to celebrate everything, I sometimes think there are people who drink alcohol like water and it gets away from them.

Peoples is the company that we use now and they are a family of a dad and 4 grown sons...the dad is mostly retired now but this company is who we call for almost everything. They are fair, they are very family oriented, and just very nice folks. We recommend them to anyone who asks and I know they like coming out here and working at our place. I'm so glad we have found this company. We've been using them for over 6 years.

Have fun miniature golfing and then dinner. We have been so humid here, which is not normal, so I'm extra hot all the time, because I'm not used to the humidity.

Robert could not have had a better experience with his infusions so far. He's there with people getting blood and chemo and a lot of them get sick from the chemo so the nurses work hard to find the right additives to help them not get sick. Also a lot of people have strong reactions from their blood transfers so R gets to see the nurses in action, doing the best to help the patient and to counteract reactions. It's almost like being in an emergency room at times...doctors are nearby at all times.

We have great admiration for these nurses. They are very much like hospice nurses in the compassion and kindness they show to everybody, including spouses. The head nurse is a guy who has been there 35 years and R and that nurse talk a lot when things are slow. R is one of the easiest patients Perry has worked with although R is also getting one of the most expensive treatments Perry has even given.

Pat your outing sounds lovely and I'm so glad you had good weather and a chance to enjoy time with family.

Marilyn my cats are covered in cat spit too. Houdini is forever giving Magic a bath. It's a wonder he doesn't have hair balls from bathing her emoticon

The man who said that to me, about being a widow must be hard, is 59 and single, never married. I think he truly has no clue. Yes, it was insensitive, and also possibly curious?

I agree the dementia was a different kind of grief for me, mourning the loss of his capabilities and the connection as husband/wife. Now it's more the loneliness that gets me sometimes and the "foreverness" to coin a new word.

Leave it to a banker to "coin" a word LOL!

Yesterday I caught a fantastic sale at Salvation Army. The usual 5 for $5 was increased to 10 for $5 as they had a surplus of items to get rid of. I am turning into a clothes horse, on a budget!

Today I am miniature golfing with 15 people from my singles group and then we are going to an Italian restaurant for dinner. The temps are in the high 80's so we'll want the air conditioned restaurant as soon as we are done.

I hope all continues to go well with R's infusions and the handywork around the house. I am waiting for a plumber to give me a quote on replacing my outdoor faucet. When I turn it on water sprays everywhere except out the bottom. It might just need a part. I'm using the same person who did all the painting and handywork for me last year, so I know he'll give me a fair deal.

Hope everyone has a fantastic Sunday! emoticon

Susan emoticon emoticon emoticon I know it was hard when Gary was here because he was so sick and you had to do everything but Gary being gone is so permanent and that is a different kind of hard (a hard that I can't bear thinking about because the thought is overwhelming). I also know that in the final stages of dementia, the spouse is a sort of widow/widower with their spouse still with them. It adds even more stages of grief to the entire situation. emoticon

I get so mixed up with the dates of Callie's trips but I thought she should be back from this last cabin visit by now. emoticon

Pat, the good thing is the Amy got a long lasting antibiotic shot called Convena so even if the other cats lick the ointment off, she's still got the shot helping her. They are all giving each other baths, even without ointment to entice them. I have a bunch of cats covered with cat spit. emoticon

When the home repair company comes on Thurs, we have 4 big things we will have them do and I'm sure they can't get them all done in one day. We don't need to try to do any of those things even though we could do two of them. The doctors appts, vet appts, and other things we are dealing with are taking up all our time and energy for now. Heck, we'll try to think up anything thing else that needs to be done while the repair guys are here, just to help us out.

R is his having his 10th infusion right now. Next week is a doctor's appt for me, a doctor's appt for him, the home repair guys, a vet appt for full geriatric blood work for two of our oldest cats, and R working extra hours. We both need to be at each appt together. Of course it's R who is the busiest since he has to go to work but I try to do as much at home as I can, so he has less to do when he gets home.

What a nice day you had yesterday Pat. I'd love to have seen the sights you saw. It reminds me of visiting my parents in WA state with lots of boats and ferries and the colorful houses and flowers.

God is so good. Yesterday was so nice. The weather could not have been more perfect. In the high 70's with a wonderful breeze. The ferry ride was a delight as was the trolley ride through the town of homes built in the early 1800 with their beautiful ginger bread trim in colors of pinks, blues, a lovely lavender, a pale yellow that one with tulip designed fencing. Reminded me of Key West, Florida. Had a nice dinner and great sharing with our youngest daughter and her daughter and my hubby. So happy it all went so well. Sure did sleep well after being in the fresh air all day. Today, back to reality , doing wash and cleaning. Susan, I am not sure how I feel about someone saying to you it must be hard being a widow. Feel that is a bit insensitive. What did they expect you to say! Callie, I miss hearing from you. Hope all is well with you and David. Mari, glad your cat is alright. Hope the ointment works quickly. Our cats would forever lick the stuff off! Well, it is lunch time. Going to make a salad I think. Truthfully, not in the mood to do anything!! No, ordering pizza is not a good choice!

Sniffer trucks, I learn something new everyday. Never heard the term before :)

Jo I hope you got to enjoy the concert and it wasn't rained out.

Marilyn you made a good decision to not let that dermatologist work on you and charge more than necessary. Hopefully your internist can take care of it for you and they certainly need to remove that dermatologist from the recommendation list.

Pat I'm sorry to hear about your neighbor. That is a very long time on Earth, made me think of Mani. I miss her and wonder how her dear husband is doing without her.

Yesterday someone said to me "It must be hard being a widow" which caused me to pause a moment before I replied "I have nothing to compare it to. I'd imagine it's equally hard to be a divorced person." Of course it's hard, but in reality, it's not like I had a choice. It was equally hard for him to be so sick for so long, and it was taking it's toll on both of us.

Well, I'd best start getting ready for work. I'm going swimming at my gym tomorrow morning though ....woo hoo!!!!

The term "sniffer trucks" makes me laugh. emoticon

For sure that dermatologist is breaking the rules of the preferred provider contract. When I see my internist, on Monday, I'll discuss it with her to find out from her if she thinks other dermatologists do things that way also. I know I don't want to go to a derm who seems to specialize mostly in cosmetic surgery again. Didn't know that until we got to her office. BTW, she is the first doctor I've ever been to that wears a mini skirt in the office...she was dressed and made up like she was going night clubbing. emoticon .

Our 14 year old cat Amy had a gouge out of her neck this morning and a bump on her face. She either was very aggressive while scratching her neck with her back foot or she got in a fight with one of our other cats. Never have the cats hurt each other before but they do play rough sometimes. So we took her to the vet for an antibiotic shot and some ointment. She's just a tiny 8 lb super healthy little whippersnapper and she wanted to explore the entire room when we let her out of the cage. She's going to be just fine.

T and I are going to a folk festival concert this evening. There is wonderful ethnic food, and I am looking forward to that as much as the music.

I have an early swim planned for the morning, then teaching 3 kiddly classes. After that, I get to do my planning and packing for vacation. Not leaving until Friday, but must get everything done on the weekend because I'll be teaching at the Y every night next week before we go.

Marilyn, sheesh. I don't think those charges are legal, so you might want to pass that info along to your insurance, etc. I'm sorry you have to get someone else to do it.

Pat, the sniffer trucks have what look to be funnels under the front bumper. Apparently they are connected to a monitor inside the truck, so that gas can be detected as they drive over it.

Have fun in Cape May.

Sniffer trucks! Love it!! I can just see a truck coming down your street with a large blood hound type nose in the air ! lol. Mari, so sorry it didn't work out with the dermatologist. This insurance now is so frustrating. What a bummer about your guttering. You have been having a time with it girlfriend between the house and Robert's illness and now this with your doctors visit. A lesson in patience for sure. The weather was much better today with the humidity but for some reason really rough on my asthma. Have the cough back so I have to take my extra meds. Going to Cape May, New Jersey with my hubby , youngest daughter and her daughter tomorrow. I am taking a bag with every possible medication I could need. I am going!!!!

After seeing this dermatologist, we are going to find another one to go to. Even though she is a preferred provider with Blue Cross and can only charge us a set amount, she is getting around that by charging us over a $100 extra for "supplies" like the trays she uses and other things. We had already felt uncomfortable with this place due to the fact that it seemed heavy into cosmetic surgery.

This doctor is on a list provided by my internist so it wasn't like we just picked her out of the phone book. R's going to call my internist and ask if she will remove the mole. We sure don't want to be going to a doctor who is not a preferred provider with Blue Cross and/or who is going to add in extra fees to get around our insurance. I now have an appt with my internist again and hopefully she will remove the mole for me on Monday.

The last really heavy rain storm we had caused the gutter at the back of our house, to pull loose. R and I were on the roof for about 2 hours yesterday, working on it so that it will stay up until workers come next Thursday, to fix it. These massive downpours overwhelmed our gutter even though it didn't have anything in it but water. The downpours were so hard and solid that it was like standing under a waterfall.

R now has an appt to see his immunologist about the test results next Wed. Wow, our appt calendar seems full.

We had a very nice lunch at Red Lobster. I had a salad, grilled salmon with broccoli and a baked potato but I gave the baked potato to Robert.

I didn't have to call, Pat. They were there when I arrived. Their "sniffer" truck found the problem, so that was a good thing.

JoAnn , that must have been really scary smelling that gas. So glad you called right away and they are taking care of it. I have seen on T.V. of homes blowing up from a gas leak in their house. As we have gas heat here it really concerns me. That is great they are fixing things there. Susan, sounds like you are working hard at doing what you need to do to keep healthy. Nope, it is not easy but oh so necessary. I have thought of joining a gym myself but with my severe asthma and the weather I cannot always get out. This next six weeks or so will be the worse with all the humidity. I am off to a funeral in a bit of a friend whose father died at 95 years old. The wife is still alive but I would not be surprised if she goes shortly as they had been married for 68 years and were close. I truly cannot imagine living that long. Just think of all the changes they have seen over the years! Have a great day everyone!! Hugs to all. Pat

Jo my sister and I are going to PA in September, by way of Niagara Falls first, then across upper New York over to Erie PA and down to Pittsburgh area to visit family. We are excited to go away for a whole week together.

Last night I joined the Romulus Athletic Center and was surprised when I went at 5:15 AM today how many cars were in the parking lot. The guy behind the desk checking people in turned out to be someone I knew from networking years ago and hadn't seen since around 2008. Small world! I need to schedule some type of meeting with a trainer to understand how to do some of the machines but for today the goal was just getting there and getting on a treadmill. They have a lazy river, lap swimming pool, aqua fitness classes, full set of weight machines, multiple cardio machines and I got a senior discount on my annual membership.

After joining last night I had dinner with my singles group and it was good to reconnect and enjoy their company. I'm in a much better frame of mind this morning.

TOPS tonight and I'm going even though I know I'll have a gain. Better to face it and put a stop to it than to stay home and try to lose it on my own.

Hope all is well with everyone. emoticon

All is fine, but I got in at 9pm to discover that an emergency repair team from the gas company was responding to repair a small gas leak in front of our house. I had them come inside to inspect our basement and make sure there was no gas buildup before I went to bed, but it was just a problem with the old lines in the street. These were put in early in 20th century, and the connections every 8 feet are joined by rope (!) that is deteriorating. Anyway, I went to bed to the sounds of enthusiastic jack hammering. They were out there with generators and big trucks for several hours.

Hmmm, thought I posted earlier, but don't see it here. Yes, Susan, I leave for Slippery Rock, PA a week from Friday. A few weeks ago, things were so flooded or muddy there, that there were lots of concerns, but it sounds like things are drying out nicely.

Move over Susan, it is my time to Whine! Having a really rough time with this heat. I went to volunteer at our Outreach Program at church and felt so sick from this heat even though it is air conditioner in our food shed. Just moving around I got light headed and felt sick to my stomach. Had to come home and lay down and the hottest month is still ahead of me. I have to do my attitude of gratitude list so I do not feel sorry for myself. I feel terrible that I am so down about it when I have so much to be thankful for.

Good Morning!

Catching up on posts after being away from the thread a couple of days. Working 13 days straight means barely time for housework and personal care and YES I am WHINING about it LOL!

I've not eaten well the past couple of days. I am trying to get back on track, I start out well in the morning and somehow by evening I've derailed again. Weigh in on Thursday night will be ugly, but I will go regardless. If nothing else it will help push a reset button for me.

I am still conflicted and stressed about the job situation and impatient and don't want to have to wait until September 30th to learn what will happen to me. I am told they can send me up to 35 miles from home (one way) to avoid paying severance pay if I'm not the one selected to stay at my office and I feel (this moment) like telling them I'm gone as of October 31st and then take November and December off and look for a part time job in January. By noon I'll feel differently. I just feel that way right now.

I definitely believe all this work stress on top of widow stress is making it much harder to try and eat on plan and focus on being healthy.

Magic had her next round of kitten shots last night. She is doing well and growing. Up to 2.2 pounds now. Next round in 3 weeks and hopefully then done until it's time for her to be spayed. It's a joy to watch her and Houdini play together.

Marilyn that rain storm sounds scary even without thunder and lightening. Thank goodness you were home and able to get the animals put up safely!

I agree with Pat that it's great for you to meet new friends, and that they are going to look out for your self destructive neighbor.

Callie I love the painting! We have these places here called "Paint & Pour" that are also $30 but you can buy the sample paintings 3 for $10 that are done by the instructors of the class. I got two of them that way. Of course, the darn frames were $20 each so not sure how much of a bargain I ended up with!

Jo is it your history group vacation coming up?

Marilyn, I'm glad your neighbor is going to get protective service and so relieved to hear that you don't have to be her guardian, just the pet guardian. Isn't it strange how we make friends sometimes? Nina sounds like a gem.

That sounds like quite the rain adventure, getting everyone squared away last night.

I'm getting into the horse trailer in a few hours, to wash our 4 dogs. That's always a fun, very wet time. The dogs are so happy after their baths and the two Great Pyrenees are so much easier to keep groomed after their baths.

Last night I was here alone, outside with pets, when we had a sudden rain storm of 1 1/3 inches of rain in 30 minutes. NO THUNDER AND LIGHTNING THOUGH emoticon The horses and goat came racing to the barn when it started raining but I had to leave the barn to get Sammy, who was hunkered down in his pen...he got up for me though, so I could take him to his stall in the barn. Then I had to get all our dogs, who had been playing in the front yard, to their room in the house. Poor short legged Rufus, our basset hound/boxer, who has the body and short legs of a basset hound. Water was rushing down our hill in rivers and since Rufus has grown up here, in the desert, he didn't know if he could cross the running water. I got him to wade through the water that went to his shoulders, to get him in the house. He was so cute and he trusted me to take care of him.
