Good a/m..lovely ladies

I got some sleep...not the amount I need but I did stay in bed for 6 hours. emoticon Daughter calls me in the a/m (from Missoiuri on her way to work) 5:00 ish my time...7:00 ish her time. These calls are important to me so I drag out of bed and talk . If I need sleep and let her know .....she accepts that easily. Day light savings time will change for her (not Arizona) on Nov. 2...yea!!! I may get an extra hour sleep if my mind will let me.

I don`t have a lot planned as of yet, but my days do tend to get fuller as the day goes on.

We have an appointment with an insurance agent at Barbaras` house at 10:00 a/m.today. He just lives right down the street from her and she was gracious enough to let us meet there. We are getting another insurance for DH as he is on Medicare and not 65. It is a plan called SCAN that takes place of a Medicare supplemint of which he does not qualify because of his age. Then an appointment on Nov. 6th for me to discuss health insurance.

I was recommended for a movie to go see but we probably will just go to Costco. My DH loves going there and sampling.... emoticon and it is right on our way home. Probably will end up there having lunch as well. I try to not sample EVERYTHING that is offered but DH usually does. I don`t have anything I want to buy there but looking around is always fun.

Have a blessed day, my SP sisters emoticon

Good evening all! emoticon

You ladies sound really ambitious today. My extent of activity was doing laundry and taking my emoticon for her walk. It was a longer one for her today. I sure will be glad when the pool at the gym opens up again on Sat. I really miss my water aerobics.

I guess that's about all for me this evening.

Hi Lola, good to meet you! I admire you in trying out new things, such as getting a Nook and taking up quilting. It is so much easier to sit and do nothing but not healthy or fun in the long run...I know from experience. Eldon must have a very strong constitution, and you are no doubt an excellent caregiver and partner.

I've read a lot about gluten free diets but haven't tried doing one. What prompted you to try it?

I have OA and my husband has diabetes type 2, and has had prostate cancer, prostate removed, cancer came back, this summer he had 8 weeks of radiation treatments and for the next 18 mo (he's already completed 6 mos) he has periodic Lupron injections to bring down his testerone to zero...many unpleasant side effects from that. I wonder if going gluten-free would have any benefits for either of us.

I quilt also although haven't really done anything in about 3 years. I retired in 2011 and motivating myself is a problem....I am a great procrastinator.

You inspire me, GreyGrannie!

Howdy Lola! Eldon sure does sound like he's doing very well with all the surgeries and health situations he has and I am sure that a big reason he's doing so well is because he's had such a good caretaker...that's a full time job! emoticon

The gardening and quilting is good for both of you...good job and keep it up! emoticon

I'm 57, my husband is 55 and we've been married 32 years. I've had several surgeries in the last 2 years (knee, 3 foot) and now I think I'm "fixed". emoticon

My neighbor's garden is a small raised garden and it's amazing how much she gets out of it..plenty enough that she keeps us stocked in good things too. emoticon

Callie talking about Walmart reminded me that once I asked R to buy some eye makeup remover for me and he needed help finding it so he asked a customer what kind to get because he couldn't get store clerks to help him. emoticon

HI LOLA...nice to see you.

Sleep in day??? when I have the time to sleep in, I am still up at 5:00 ish at the latest. emoticon

I was somewhat productive today. Did most of the things I wanted or needed to do....will do more tomorrow.

I just got home from Wal-Mart...boy!!! that store drives me c-r-a-z-y when it is busy. Waited in the customer service line for 20 minutes to take back an item that was less than $7 and I was #4 emoticon

Bought me some lipstick, a foot scrub and perfume.....I was the only customer in the cosmetics and I waited for the cashier to stop yakking with her co-worker for another 5 minutes.

OK...done griping emoticon

On the other hand...my roast smells good emoticon

This was a sleep-in day for us. Things are moving slowly around here - but I've finally come to realize it doesn't matter to anyone else what, where, when or how things get done around here.

I need to introduce myself to you. I forget that I'm with a new team and am a stranger to most of you. I'm 74, have been married to Eldon (78) for 57 years. I've been a "caregiver" for so many years that I sometimes forget that I do have a real life of my own. Eldon had two heart transplants almost 27 years ago. The doctors are amazed that he is functioning and doing as well as he is at this time. His issues are often related to medicine side effects and, lately, to the general process of aging. He had a hip replacement about 1 1/2 years ago, dislocated it 5 times and had another joint implanted about 6 months ago. His knee is also very bad but surgery is a real risk at this point. Falls have been an issue for him.

I've recently taken up the art (?) of quilting - hoping to make my mind work on solving problems, learning a new skill, giving another venue for my creative juices that seem to be rather dormant lately. I've recently gone gluten-free and find my digestive issues are much improved. I do very little baking other than gluten-free breads.

We have a small kitchen garden - a 8 x 16 raised bed where we grow summer veggies. Eldon has taken care of much of the garden this year - the first time in 4 years that he's been able to do much outdoor work.

What else? I bought a Nook and have check books out of the library on their E-book system. My arthritic hands don't like to hold pages of a book open for long and I've really love the e-books.

We have Bible study at our house on Thursday evenings and I need to do some general housework today - like dust, vacuum and clutter removal.

emoticon emoticon Think sunny thoughts today. emoticon

Good a/m...ladies

Checking in bright and early as I am forcing myself to be more productive today. Also if I get busy ...just maybe DH may get motivated as well. emoticon

He sure likes sitting on the couch and watching tv. I am learning this behavior is common in dementia patients...lack of getting motivated like they use to.

Yes...It was a good movie and I would recommend others to see it.

Marilyn...think of all the $ you have saved... emoticon

We are not avid movie goers...I may have seen 5 movies this past year.

Youngest daughter will be calling soon..so I will close for now. I have lots to do that I am planning on.

Wishing all a blessed day. emoticon

Aw, hope tech can help you get your Spark Tracker to work soon Barb. I think it's really fun to use and it helps me to move more each day.

So far this has been a busy week for me and will be busy tomorrow too...then things should slow down for me...town is far away so that can take up a day for us.

It's best for me to not touch the ice cream...I've been know to eat a quart of Ben and Jerry's in one sitting. emoticon Let's not even think about how many calories that would be emoticon

I think it's been over 15 years since I've been to a movie...the last movie I saw was "The Others". emoticon

Hi Ginny. Yes, we will and right now we appreciate being able to be home when he feels he need to be so that's good.

We thought the movie was excellent too. I don't care to see too many films a second time but I think this is one I would because so much happens, it's so intense!

A small DQ sundae is a good thing. I had a cup with a scoop of Pumpkin Pie ice cream and a scoop of Jamoca Almond Fudge, no toppind but big scoops so probably 800-900 calories...oh my! I sure did enjoy it but won't have it again unless i plan it into my calories and then I am going to remember to have just one small scoop...less than 200 calories.

Barb, glad your husband is feeling better. You will get to go on another trip together.

Ted & I went to see Capitan Phillips a week ago. It was excellent I think. My only complaint was that the captions on the screen were too small for me to read since I am legally blind. That was ok though since the movie was so good.

I guess that's it for me today. Goodnight everyone.

p.s. I had a small dairy queen sundae yesterday.

Hi ALL

Barbara is planning on having ice cream today... emoticon

We are going to go to the movies and see Captain Phillips...a true story about a captain of a ship who was kidnapped back in 1990 and she has already looked up where there is a Baskin Robbins.....just saying emoticon

I did OK on my trip with food but for some reason had the munchies last night...but today is another day. Right???

LOLA...that is a lot of garlic....what do you do with it all? How is Eldon? Is that your husband?

Barbara...it was fun even if it was only for a day....there will be other times when Jerry is healthier.

I am up and DH is still asleep...that is good as I am wanting my computer time. He doesn`t say much but he does always come over and see hat I am looking at. It is uncomfortable having someone look over your shoulder. I try to be patient but it doesn`t always work....he doesn`t know it though.

Have a great day. emoticon

This is really Barb (not Callie, LOL). Our planned 4 or 5 day trip was cut short after just one night due to my husband realizing he just isn't up to it at this time and sweet Callie and her husband David didn't care that the trip was cut short, their concern is for Jerry and that helpd Jerry be able to admit it and not feel too terrible about it. Truth be known, I think the portion of the trip that we cut out, going to New Mexico, was more important to him than to any of us...the main thing was that we got to get away together and see something new while enjoying being with each other. And we did that!

My husband had prostate cancer about 10 years ago, after surgery thought it was all gone, but the cancer reappeared this past year. He had 8 weeks of radiation treatments and now is on Lupron which kills all his testerone, and he must continue with the Lupron for another year and half. He's dealing with multiple side effects and he so wants to be back to feeling normal that when he has a few good days he thinks yes, all is improving, and then the side effects start back in. So that's what happened on the trip. Hoping to try again in the Spring to go to New Mexico..meanwhile day trips are what we will try to do instead of longer ones.

I see a few of our team members have the Spark activity tracker. I got mine several weeks ago and haven't had sucess getting it to plug any numbers into the computer. Tomorrow I am going to call the Help Desk for assistance.

Until then, sleep tight! One more thing, I still didn't have any ice cream!
Barb

I can't believe it's evening already. Didn't sleep well last evening and was doing quite well when it was a reasonable time to get up. Stayed in bed and snoozed. Hope tonight is more zzzzz friendly.

We worked out in the garden for almost 4 hours today - though I must confess it was a slow workout. Trying to get it cleaned up for the winter - dug the last of the carrots, enough kale for dinner tonight. Eldon fell and it took us about 1/2 hour to get him off the ground. I was about ready to call for help but we managed to work it out. He has a few bruises but nothing that a few days won't heal. It gives me a jolt to see him fall. I keep nudging people to be sure they can get up off the ground. Get enough leg strength so you can stand back up again. Eldon's legs are not strong (at all).

I still didn't get to the grocery store....... the pantry is getting bare. It's actually a good thing to get to the back of the cupboard occasionally and get a new stock of everything.

We planted next year's crop of garlic today.. Here we plant it in October/November and it is ready to harvest in late spring. It really doesn't interfere much with other springtime plantings.I saved cloves of the biggest garlic bulbs and had about a dozen to plant. The bulbs they came from were about the size of softballs.

I'm off to sew a few quilt seams before bedtime -- which might come early tonight.

Hi guys,
Yes I got my Spark Activity tracker, Love it. It does tracks steps miles and most importantly calories burned, etc. but you do have to go to the computer to check it. That's the only downside. I do love it though. Got to get ready for work but will write tomorrow!

Love ya,
Sheila

Checking in for a minute before going to bed just to say Hi and let you know I have joined the team. Have one more night to go on this rotation. For those of you who may not know me, I am from Virginia, I'm an Overnight Support Manager for Walmart. I retired but living on social security is not easy and we have some obligations to take care of so I am back to work for now. I walk a lot on the job so that's good and I enjoy the people I work with so those are the blessings. It's not forever but it is where God has me for now. I'll post later and I'm looking forward to hearing more about you guys and what is working in your healthy weight loss journey. Callie, thanks so much for starting this and inviting me to join.

Take care,
Sheila
PS...we had someone from Minnesota charge on our credit card. We did get credited for the charges. Discover was really good about that. Hope it works out well for you.

HEALTH ALERT - Don't continue to shampoo your hair in the shower as the shampoo will run down your body. If you read the label on most shampoos, they say for thicker, fuller .... We need to shampoo and bathe with Dawn - quickly removes fat and grease

Oh, I'd want to go to the copper mines with the husbands. emoticon But then I'd want to shop with you too emoticon

Funny about the nautical theme..AZ and NM really don't fit with nautical themes. emoticon

I'm very careful how I cut off the tops and ends of my okra so that I don't cut too much and cause my steamed pods to be slimy. YUK!!! emoticon

Hopefully you will get to see how Barb's Spark Tracker works since she will have her IPAD with her...I think it should be able to link to an IPAD...hope so

Her tracker will hold 2 weeks data though so if now, she can upload the info when she gets home.

Have fun and stay safe!

Good a/m....ladies

I am all packed except for last minute items. DH is still asleep but I will go in and take my shower and get dressed in awhile.

Tonite we are staying in a hotel that is very characteristic of the area and is 100 years old.. Even though Bisbee is an old mining town with frontier culture...our room is in a "nautical" theme. emoticon

Barb and her DH are in the same suite as we have 2 rooms with an adjoining livingroom.

I will take pics an post a blog after we get home. I still need to post a blog on our trip when we all went up to our cabin...I have not forgotten.

Our drive is 4 hours away and I have been up since 3 :30 because of a "potty" break. Hope to be able to check in and nap a little before checking out things.

Our husbands will tour the copper mine and Barb and I will check out the stores. I am not one to buy "stuff" but do buy postcards to add to my scrap booking.

Will try to post each day as Barb has an IPAD and I know she will let me use it.

Have a blessed day and a blessed week..... emoticon Callie

I loved deep fried okra...Ds mom use to pickle it. I called it "snot" as it was slimy emoticon

I ate very well at lunch today at the restaurant and nothing was offered for dessert at my daughters` (yay) emoticon

Now...to behave while I am gone this week. I want to walk every day as a committed exercise in the evenings when we stay at the hotel. I am going to try to work towards this (fingers crossed)

I will be back on Friday (maybe late) .....please keep up encouraging each other.

I have invited 8 more ladies so maybe they will join us.

If any of you know someone that needs encouragement...please invite them to join us.

Good night emoticon will check back in the a/m as we are not leaving til 9:00 a/m.

Good morning on this lovely day that will be sunny and beautiful as soon as the fog dissipates from the ground.

We drove by the farmers market yesterday to buy some apples and winter squash ... the parking lot was parked, the crowds were crowded, cars were in a long line trying to get into the crowded parking lot -- so we drove home. Maybe Monday when all the kidlets are off in school would be a better time for us old folk to go to the market.

I am missing our kitchen garden produce that we've been living on over the summertime. The only edible still standing is the kale and we are both appreciating the many ways we can prepare kale. I dried some, ground it and mixed it with dry parmesan cheese and spices (smoky paprika, chili powder, black pepper). It makes a great salad sprinkle - soup sprinkle - garnish on eggs - cottage cheese - etc.

HELLOOOOOO beautiful ladies

Sitting here with my morning drink....diet emoticon it makes me happy. emoticon

DH is still asleep and I will give myself 20 more minutes to be on here.

emoticon Barb....she is the newest member and my SIL. She has not posted yet but did join the team last night.

If any of you know of someone that would benefit from a new encouraging team ...please ask them to check us out and join if they want to.

I have renewed interest and excitement for this team and together we can reach our goals.

Add a new topic anytime you want...post anywhere you want. Don`t feel obligated to post on everything...that can take too much time. Start a challenge....it may not be for everyone but someone may be encouraged and join you

. emoticon I will be gone tomorrow til Friday. I m sorry but I will be able to check in just not as often

Have a beautiful Sunday and count the blessings (gifts) that are yours to receive today.

I LOVE chatty posts....chat away...LOLA

That is another reason I don`t get out and do exercise....unless DH goes with me ...but he tends to lag behind when I am out for a good walk (his dementia does this) so I would rather go alone but can`t find that "alone " time.

Give me a food hint. emoticon do you mean what you eat that works for you?

I think my biggest problem re exercise is to make ME my priority. It seems that I've taken care of others for so many years and I have set myself aside for so long that I almost feel guilty when I'm not tending to actual chores or to physical necessities like grocery shopping and cleaning house.

My personal restraints right now are the feeling that I can't leave the house for too long at a time. Eldon is getting more frail - balance and leg strength is an issue with him. I do make sure he has his cell phone at hand when I leave.

My personal preference is to not have a separate challenge topic, it seems hard for me to go to too many separate topics. Though whatever you decide is fine.

I do tend to get too "wordy" when I get on line, I find it hard to be brief in anything. Which, in itself, is quite strange. I'm rather quiet and reserved in person. Mild mannered, a peace keeper and often thought of as being reserved and rather stuffy. I guess the internet and chat friends bring out the real "me" which is kept in check by my inner inhibitions.

ME time should be my priority, whether it is mental, physical or just a time of quietness.

Oh, yes. I should get some bright pink walking shoes.

and ... morning is not my time. I can't make decisions in the mornings ... need to gather my head together with coffee, the newspaper and a breakfast.

I would love to share my 'food' hints and get some gentle nags about moving my body.

Marilyn...I did a lot of walking in my house when DH worked or when he was outside working and I may resort to that again.

If I can stay off the computer when I 1st get up in the a/m emoticon ..then it can be accomplished. I get on here the 1st thing because DH usually stays in bed for a few hours more and I have my quiet time without feeling guilty

But now...you are right...I have to make it a priority and work around things.

Oh..which pair of shoes should I wear? emoticon emoticon I really do have a pair of each of these.LOL

Lola, my strengths lie in the area of working out and my biggest challenge is the eating. So we can help each other and balance each other out.

My husband and I walk up to 8 miles at a time now that I've recovered from foot surgery and that's in this rural country that we live in, but I want both you and Callie to know that I've walked up to two miles non stop in our little 1300 sq foot house and most of those steps were in just part of the house. It can be done!

What I'm working on now is getting back to strength training and biking again. I have a very nice stationary bike that is so quiet and I love using it when I get back into the habit.

HI LOLA...so happy to see you join us.

Maybe we can get motivated with moving our bodies together.

Do you know of any challenge that will help motivate you? We`ll set up a room on here and get encouraged from others as well.

I have such a hard time getting started .....last year I lost 20# but it was with diet and exercise. I want to keep my weight off and am doing that but I want to feel more energetic and I KNOW exercise is the key but no motivation.

Let me know what your capabilities are and we`ll partner up. I like walking the best but can`t seem to get out there and do it. I don`t have a really great place to walk (that is procrastination ) but it isn`t a priority either.

I'm just checking in -

I'm glad to be with a positive and encouraging group. I've been doing Sparks for quite a while and am happy to report that I've kept near my goal weight for the past 4 (?) years - up a few and down a few. I'm happy with that. My goal is to be healthy - whatever it takes. It's been hard to exercise outdoors because of DH's health restrictions. Seems as though once a motivational habit is neglected it's ever so hard to get started again. Eating isn't the issue, it's the moving the body that seems to be harder for me right now.

You will get to know me - Callie has known me for a number of years now.

Since you caught it so fast and have started the paperwork Callie, I bet you won't be responsible for paying the bill at all. Do check with your bank and they will explain it all to you.

Amazon caught a charge on our card for us, right after it was made. The person who made it was in England and that triggered their security team since we are in Texas. We've had one other incident of a person buying something on Itunes and us getting charged for it but it was pretty easy to fix. R watches our accounts on a daily basis because he wants to know right away if something is not right.

I forgot to mention....I looked at my bank account yesterday for my charge card and someone had charged fencing of $980 , somewhere in Virginia, So, now that account is closed til further investigation and paperwork is sent to us to sign that we verify that this is fraud.

How can someone charge that amount without proper ID? I am happy that I discovered it. This was charged on the 16th and I discovered it on the 18th.

My bill is due on the 1st.....I hope all is resolved by then so I won`t have to pay the $980. I may just go to my bank and see what I can do about not paying it.

Today is doing laundry and cleaning. Callie, I can't stand to have any laundry around. As soon as it is out of the dryer it is folded and put away. That is just one of my quirks emoticon I will take Baby for her walk then try to get my walk in. Today DH has a helper working on our wall project so I don't think that I will be getting in my 10,000 steps. emoticon

Hugs, Ginny
