I do cardio 5-6 times per week and strength training 3 times per week.

As a runner, most of my cardio is running, but I'm really trying to cross train a couple of times a week by training on spin bike or elliptical machine. I also inline skate.

I follow an exercise program called Les Mills Combat. I also run, do yoga and play softball. Les Mills Combat is Beachbody's at home version of Body Combat. Which is a class based workout at gyms. Combat is a 60 day cardio based program that uses mixed martial arts as the core and science behind the workouts. Some of the workouts are HIITS, which stands for High Intensity Interval Training. They are high impact involving plyometrics and strength training. The exercises remind me of athletic conditioning. The best part though, because they are so intense the workouts are only 30 minutes. The other workouts in the program are longer and these workouts are the ones with lots of punching and kicking combos. They are a little less intense. Not much though. Both types of workouts leave me lying face down in a puddle of my own sweat.

I do the Combat workouts 4 days out of the week. I use one day to either play softball or run about 3-4 miles. Then I use one day to do yoga.

As far as my diet. I keep it clean. I try to eat as much natural and fresh food as possible. I can't get away from all processed stuff, but I really really try to. When I first started my journey I ate to lose weight. I ate what ever would keep my calories low. My biggest Ah Ha moment was when I learned how to eat to fuel my body, to help it function better, and to keep me feeling healthy.

I'm here for a purpose...I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy. - Og Mandino

I'm currently working my way through Chalean Extreme. It is a program by Beachbody which focuses on strength training and heavy lifting. The program is broken into 3 phases which are called Burn, Push, and Lean. Right now, I'm on the last week of the "Burn" phase.

Basically, the concept is to lift heavier using fewer reps so that you achieve muscle failure between 10-12 reps (for this phase, next phase is heavier weights and 8 or so reps). The videos are anywhere from 20 minutes to 45, with most of them falling in the 30-35 minute range.

This program was my first attempt at a serious strength training program, and I love it. I like the feeling that I get after lifting, and I have definitely seen more definition in my body. My shoulders and arms look great, and I'm much stronger in my core area. I can't really comment on the next two phases yet, but I'll try to update here when I get to them.

Tell us about your fitness program, are you following any existing program or did you make up your own?
