Winter is ok if you don't have to go outside, lol I live in NY and we've had more than our share of cold and snow. Had over 6 feet of snow from one storm in November. Burrrr

i LOVE the cold and snow and hate detest ABHOR the hot summers. I only like heat if i am IN the water....
But cold? i can go outside without sweating or feeling like crap. I can walk my very large dog through the deep snow and we both love it. i can snowshoe..xcountry skiing is out for me now but i used to all the time. i love to tobaggan and go down hills on flyting saucers..bobsledding is fun. i cant downhill ski any more either but i loved that when i was able. Ice skating is a fun activity...i thrive in the cold weather...
today is far too hot for me i'm NOT liking the 50 degrees..and all our snow melted making me an unhappy camper..
Try seeing it like a kid. beautiful, fluffy white snow ready to be made into a snowman..or have a snowball fight.or make an igloo or tunnels!! and shovelling is great exercise!!

I completely agree, Amanda. While I'm "lucky" in being stuck in arguably the relatively warm spot in NY (at the end of this big old sandbar) I also miss the loss of my chosen activity (open water swimming). Don hits a lot of great points, though. Not knowing where you're located it's tough to offer suggestions for outside but do you have friends to workout with? How about a friend circuit, one week doing someone elses' workout and then rotate? It could be indoors, outside or a combination.

As a fairweather bicyclist I "sorta" agree...I say "sorta" as there ARE ways to celebrate the cold if one tries to pick up outdoor winter activities such as snow-shoeing, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, ice skating or hiking. Our bodies ARE capable of generating LOTS of heat when we get SPARKIN' outdoors.

I've been trying to learn cross country skiing, which is a popular winter sport for many members of our local bike club.

Indoor options? Joining a gym or working out at home. Workout DVDs are available at the library and Coach Nicole offers a wide range of workouts available here on SparkPeople.

Even if our workout opportunities are limited, winter offers us the option of focusing on improving our healthy food choices as there isn't ANYTHING like THAT to help us drop the pounds!

Hang in there...you can DO IT!

NY weather is a real downer for me. I have lived here all my life but seem to hate the cold more and more every year. Lost some of my motivation the past few weeks with the weather change and some other personal things going on..really need to get back on track emoticon
