For me I do a little bit of both. Because just in case one does not work the other does.

I've found that if I plan too much something always comes up. I make tentative plans and I build flexibility into those plans to avoid frustration.

I like planning to a point but too much structured planning came be oh so boring. Just waking up one morning and getting dressed taking off to no destination and just having fun is great

Keep on track

It makes sense to me. I often resist the idea of a plan..... however years ago I was a compulsive list maker. If my parents were coming to visit for the weekend, I had every meal planned and a menu posted on the side of the frig. One of my biggest challenges is finding a happy medium between compulsive lists and insane spontaneity.

QUESTION: Do you like to plan things out in detail or be spontaneous?

ANSWER: Well, I can go either way. I like to be organized and there is nothing I like better than a chart, a list, or a database. I was the type of kid who went into bookstores back when they had those huge planners and would finger the different type of organizing pages with longing. However, since I've been at such things for so long I've learned that if you make a list of things to do for the day, you probably won't get them all checked off. At least I don't. For me, it's almost a way of brainstorming and I am okay when everything isn't completed on a list. I have gone places with no plan at all. In contrast, for geekfest last weekend I had a chart and a list that I had prioritized and sorted in Excel. I didn't follow this list to the letter and that did not make me cry. So I like to be organized - don't mind being spontaneous - and when going somewhere I don't mind playing it by ear even when I have a plan.

Hope that makes some sense. LOL
