Oh no don't be embarrassed! lol ... these things sort of come in and out of fashion. Right now I think Rumi is very 'in'. Gilbran was very 'in' during the 80s and during what I've started to call the dysfunctional movement.

To me it's interesting how certain ideas over time come into focus and then sort of get too much focus and then go out of focus and eventually ... settle into a sort of reasonable focus.

I had The Prophet and The Beloved. I have no idea why I don't have them anymore. I must have turned them in to the used bookstore I go to. I'm going to have to get them back. LOL Sometimes if a book reminds me of an unhappy time I will turn it in to the used bookstore. I was reading those two books while in a pretty destructive relationship.

Yeah, they are great books! ...kind of upset that I don't have them anymore. LOL

I just got a copy of the Prophet from the library. It just seemed as if it jumped out at me and 'got me'. Interestingly, it is a newer edition than the one I used to read as a teenager, with a very engaging introduction, as well as annotations, by Suheil Bushrui. As I revisited the pages after many, many years, I realized how fortunate I was to have found his writing at such a young age. If you have not read it, you are definitely in for a treat! This lil' book also makes an excellent gift ... .

Such truth . . .

I read him in college - when a dear friend and teacher shared her book with me. Still love it today - but haven't read the book in years!

Thanks for sharing!

I loved Gibran and think I would get much more out of him today.

Goodness, I haven't read him in forty years!

I, too, have read Gibran many times even underlining things from his book. His saying seems to be appropriate for your episode yesterday. Have a great day everyone!

I used to read Khalil Gibran over and over again while I was at work - taking 125 calls a day in an 8 hour period - doing support for credit cards. I needed my Gibran during that time.

I was always struck by the theme of ambivalence woven throughout his work.

I picked out this one this morning. I like it:

Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.
Khalil Gibran
