Since I'm not part of a unit, I get involved in Council helping with their camps:
Twilight Camp - Day Camp in the evening for 4 nights. I'm the photographer.
Eagle Flight - One week of camp working as a merit badge counselor.
NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) - Working as supportive staffer for the Youth Leaders on 3 of the 4 courses Council offers.

Start third week in June and end mid August for 4 camps while the last one is three weekends in September-October. Keeps me plenty busy during the summer months and gets be back to camping once again since I was missing it not being in a unit any more.

Summer Camp at El Rancho Cima, Devil's Backbone, Texas. Temperatures 104/105 degrees, rough terrain, Haven't had any rain in months. Scouts and Scouters are tough, this camp builds character. Come and blast shotguns, take a 2000 foot zip line over the Blanco River, ride horses, survive the "Death March," have fun and learn something. emoticon

Our troop is just getting started. With only seven 5th graders, we aren't doing any high-adventure stuff. We will be doing monthly campouts. The highlights will be Summer Camp (Tomahawk Scout Reservation in northwestern Wisconsin), and an overnight canoe trip down the St. Croix River between Wisconsin and Minnesota. We will be inviting Webelos from the Pack for the local campouts.

We have our open house on Thursday, then we normally have the rain gutter regatta in July and the waterpark in August, However we are meeting next week to discuss plans for differnt summer events. I took the kids on a 4 mile hike a couple weeks ago and I would love to take them on a few more nature oriented trips over the summer. We did our overnight camp trip on May 14 but I would love to plan another one for the fall.

Our troop is of course going to the Sabattis Scout Reservation Long Lake NY for a week. We are also doing a camp and canoe trip in the Lowville NY area and a camp and climb trip in the Adirondacks. We have one youth on camp staff and 2 crew members on staff.

Our pack is going to Herkimer Diamond Mines Herkimer NY to camp and taking a trip the Boston Aquarium and Gloucester for a Whale watch. We have done a lot of fund raising for that one.

The crew is a little more laid back in the summer since most of them are working.
