Well, the weatherman was partially wrong as to the amount of snow we were going to get. He had said 12-18+ inches. Well, we got at least 2 feet of snow judging by how much had to be cleaned off the top of my vehicle. When I got up this morning the plowman had done my driveway and gotten as close to my vehicle as possible, but in doing so, he made a solid wall of snow that had to be shoveled through in order to get the dog into the driveway for her morning walk. Poor dog had to wait while I shoveled enough snow away to get to the driveway, and toward the end of it, I was shoveling the snow that was ahead of me behind me just to get out through.

I have spent the day outside shoveling, and there is still more that must be done sometime. The back door through which I usually take the dog for most of the day is completely snowed shut--about level with the latch since some snow has come off the roof. I have metal roofing on my house which is great, the advantage being that snow slides off from it quickly, but that is also the disadvantage in some places such as onto decks, etc.

Certainly got plenty of exercise today. My tracker said 24,000 plus steps. I am now very tired so don't think I will do much more today. Hoping I can find something nutritious in the freezer for my evening meal so that I don't have to prepare something.

Was out with the dog a few minutes ago, and it has started to snow--very fine at this point--but snow nonetheless. They have already started to treat the roads. We have a prediction of up to 18 inches or even more in this area because of a strange weather system in this area I am hoping the weathermen are wrong for once. I prefer snow to rain, but in lesser amounts.

Hope everyone stays safe.

Eileen, we are expecting more snow here also, not sure exactly but forecast say within the next 2 days to expect more snowfall, happy your driveway has cleared some. I like it when the snow stays up in higher elevation, looks pretty up on the mountains and the people who ski love it even more...Stay safe and warm, hope you have a great day...

The ashes spread yesterday together with the beautiful sunny day did clear most of the driveway and yard so that conditions are much safer to walk around here. Now we are expecting A LOT of snow beginning sometime tomorrow afternoon. The ski areas will be very happy. I would much rather have snow than ran, but I like it in storms around 6", but it sounds like we could have triple that amount before it stops.

Stay safe everyone.

We had rain and freezing rain during the night and got up to an absolute skating rink for a driveway. With cleats on my boots and a walking pole, I was able to make it out with the dog this morning, and then to the road for my paper, but it was very slow careful steps to do anything. I have now spread some ashes and need to do more, but at least it is looking better than earlier. The advantage of burning wood is having plenty of ashes to spread on occasions like this. I know ashes can be messy, but I would rather have to clean the floor inside than take a chance on a nasty fall outside.

It is now a beautiful sunny day, so I am hoping that the sun also works its magic on the ice.
Hope everyone is having a good day.

Thank you Eileen...so happy you spent the time with your family...I too spent Christmas with my daughter and family, unfortunately due to poor weather and my daughter-in-law not being well my son and Brenda were not with us, they did manage a trip on Tuesday before Christmas, we shared our Christmas presents with them and had a nice meal and fellowship together. My daughter and her family came over too which made it nice that sister and brother could be together, as soon as they got home, they have been snowed in ever since so I was grateful we had the time together.

Good Morning Team,

Wow, we are about to enter a brand New Year, with January 2017 just around the corner.

For some of us it can be a fresh start, new beginnings, however as you begin this New Year, keep in mind, this will be the 1st day of a brand new year. There are endless possibilities out there.

However you begin this new year, remember yesterday, last year is past, today is new, the opportunity to start over and begin your journey to a new healthier you. You are worth it, you can do it!

You are special to me, I care about you and I thank God you are my spark friend.

Blessings on your day, and blessings on the start of a brand new year of endless possibilities!

A belated Merry Christmas to everyone. I was so busy last week trying to get everything finished, packing done, etc. I went to my daughter's for Christmas Eve into Christmas Day, but came home mid-afternoon. I was glad I did. i had my dog with me, but had left the two cats alone. I had given them a full dish of food and plenty of water, but when I got home the food dish was almost completely empty. They were so happy to see me and spent the rest of the day wanting to be in my lap and being patted. Tabitha (the kitten) gets into my lap every time I sit down for a few minutes. I saw her two bothers while away since my daughter kept one and her in-laws next door kept the other one. They look much bigger than Tabitha and have much longer fur. They also love to be held and patted so I would say that is a trait for the whole litter since they were held since birth.

Hope everyone had a great holiday.

Evening Hello Team

Sorry for MIA but have had some very busy days, also visited my son and wife who came into town for a short visit, it was a nice surprise having them with us especially since my daughter in law has not been well and with the stormy weather on top of it all making driving very treacherous it was great to have a visit with them.

We exchanged our gifts as they won't be able to make another trip out as the mountain passes are too treacherous for another trip. Another snow advisory warning is being called for Christmas Weekend, first Christmas we won't be together in a few years..

Compared to our weather recently, today is balmy. Some of the ice is melting from the road which is good.

Sounds like everyone is having similar weather to ours. It is supposed to warm up here for the rest of the week, but as yet that has not happened. Have finally gotten some of the gift wrapping taken care of, and I must say Tabitha loves to steal bows.

Hope everyone stays safe and warm during these busy times.

Made it home okay. But boy is it cold. We got an inch of snow, but had thin layer of ice below it. Fortunately, the road crews had the roads cleared, especially since we took a wrong turn and went about 20 miles in the wrong direction. I kept telling Margaret that I didn't recognize the surroundings. Finally took the GPS out and it got us straight!

Have just finished clearing snow and ice from areas of my driveway. It is freezing rain with a prediction of rain later. Yesterday we had over 4 inches of snow and really cold temperatures. I almost prefer the cold to want is happening today. I just don't like ice. Fortunately my driveway was plowed last night, but there are always places that don't get cleared because of where my vehicle is. When I took the dog out last night for the last time, I spent some time clearing the largest area that was left immediately in front of my vehicle and I am glad I did. It was light and fluffy snow then. This morning it has a thick ice layer and is wet and heavy underneath. Guess I got my workout in for today, although I haven''t checked my tracker yet.

Stay safe everyone.

Same here RHOOK - Actual temperature is in the single digits with prediction of wind chills reaching as much as 30 below zero. Staying in as much as possible, but the dog's sweater on her when we went out this morning. Slept on the daybed downstairs last night so that I could go to the cellar to tend the wood furnace during the night. Managing to stay warm with a few layers.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Good Morning All. It is turning very cold here, so need to go make sure my vehicle has sufficient anti-freeze to keep it protected. Busy time of year, but that is not excuse for not taking care of the basic things.

Thank you for sharing the piece about perspective, RHook. I always try to put things in perspective and be thankful, grateful for all that I have. I believe that if we put our lives in the hands of our creator and trust that he will watch over us, it is easier to take the attitude shown by the wife in your illustration.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

An article on Attitude...

A famous writer was in his study. He picked up his pen and began writing:

**
Last year, my gall bladder was removed. I was stuck in bed due to this surgery for a long time.

The same year I reached the age of 60 and had to give up my favorite job.
I had spent 30 years of my life with this publishing company.

The same year I experienced the death of my father.

In the same year my son failed in his medical exam because he had a car accident. He had to stay in the
hospital with a cast on his leg for several days.

And the destruction of the car was a second loss.

His concluding statement: Alas! It was such bad year!!

When the writer's wife entered the room, she found her husband looking dejected, sad and lost in his thoughts. She carefully and surreptitiously read what he had written, and silently left the room and came back shortly with another piece of paper on which she had written her summary of the year's events and placed it beside her husband's paper.

When her husband saw that she had written something in response he read her take on the year's events:

She wrote:

** Last year I finally got rid of my gall bladder which had given me many years of pain.

I turned 60 with sound health and retired from my job. Now I can utilize my time to write better and with more focus and peace.

The same year my father, at the age of 95 without depending on anyone and without any critical conditions, met his Creator.

The same year, God blessed my son with life. My car was destroyed, but my son was alive and without
permanent disability.

At the end she wrote: This year was an immense blessing and it passed well!!
See!!
The same incidents but different viewpoints.
Moral:
In daily lives we must see that it's not happiness that makes us grateful,

but gratefulness that makes us happy.
There is always, always, always something to be thankful for.

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING....

And attitude is the one thing that we always, in every circumstance, have control over.

Let Go and Let God!

Bob Hook

Whew! I have just finished shoveling my driveway (at least the areas that needed to be done after it was plowed last night. It was the first time plowing this year, and there was an area where I turn my vehicle into when I drive into my driveway--then I back around to where I park. That area was completely missed, so I shoveled it. Between that area and around my vehicle--which I always do anyway, I had 88 minutes of exercise on the tracker. (The tracker called it general exercise, but once corrected to what I actually did I had over 11,000 steps for the day.
Bet I am going to be stiff tomorrow!

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Extremely cold here at this time, but the wood fire are keeping it relatively comfortable. Since I requested and got larger pieces of firewood, I find that I can regulative the amount of heat better than I did with the smaller pieces of wood. Last year it was either way to hot--then the fire wood die down and I had to put way too many pieces in to get it burning again. We are supposed to have snow coming later today into tomorrow. Right now we only have a partial snow cover.

Hope everyone's weekend is enjoyable.

Judith - Thank you for making me aware that a wheel chair can be as dangerous on ice as a car. I had never thought of that. Please be very careful as wintertime has so many hazards. Went out of town shopping today, and have just finished putting away the groceries, etc.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Eileen I agree your safety is important, I am glad you use the walking poles, I have a few friend's who use them and they say it does help, as a matter of fact they use these poles all year round on their walks thru the trails...I would use them too is I were not in a wheelchair, and speaking of that I have to be so careful as the road ways can be so icy and like a car the wheels will slide if I hit an icy patch that wasn't covered in sand or salt...I don't venture out on snowy and icy days as my safety has to come first...be safe and have a great weekend my friend... emoticon

Judith - I love the beauty of winter, but don't like to drive right after a storm. Unfortunately, I have had to on several occasions, and really haven't had a problem. Now as I age, I find walking also can cause a problem if it is icy. I have walking poles which I use when walking the dog or if I sense that it is icy under foot. The extra stability is well worth the few minutes it takes to get one as I head out. I keep one at the back door where I am most apt to leave with the dog, and one at the front door for when I go to get my morning paper or the mail. I don't care whether they are "cool" or not, but I would rather feel safe.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Eileen, in spite of the snowy conditions it was great to hear the roads had been sanded so your trip was safer, I love the beauty of winter the crispness of fresh snow but don't like some of the road conditions but like you have been happy our roads have been sanded too, our manager in my complex is out first thing in morning pouring salt on the walk ways and road ways/parking lot...Our temps have dropped considerably with making it icy which is treacherous for us as we have what we call "Black Ice" can't see it but if you hit it with a vehicle or walking it is extremely dangerous, I have had a few falls when I first moved West when I wasn't in a wheelchair which left me black and blue...Today and right into weekend are freezing temps which means more icy roads.

Be safe my friend with your winter storms... emoticon

Had two appointments this morning, and the road was still snow covered when I headed to the first one. They had been sanded and were good, and the further I went onto the more traveled roads they better they got. My second appointment (for my hair) was up a very steep, tree shaded hill which is always snow covered after a storm, but even that was starting to melt at
the most critical points. Although I love the beauty of winter especially in the country, I am not fond of the road conditions the day after a storm. The weather predictions for the rest of the week are for more storms, so I guess I will only go as far as I have to and put off shopping out of town for better weather.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Judith, It has been snowing here for a couple of hours, and the ground is covered. It is not supposed to be a heavy snow--only 1 to 2" have been predicted, but so far I have not seen that it is slowing down at all. Today is going to be a "catch up" day for me trying to get some of the things that I have put off especially in the last week.

Hope everyone is staying warm. It is quite cold here.

Good Morning, everyone. It is a very cold, crisp day here, but as yet we have not had any significant snow. The craft fair is now behind me,and for the most part it was very successful. There was a crowd that attended, and since there were 74 spaces full of crafts they had a lot to see and buy. I am sure that each craft person wished or more of the total dollars had been spent at their space, but not everyone can afford some of the wonderful things that were available.

I sold a lot of the last minute small items (mostly angels, snowmen and bells for Christmas ornaments) which I had as well as a few of my baskets to make it a worthwhile sale for me. Now I can relax and get some of the things I need to work on for my own gifts.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

As I start this new month, I want to say how happy I am to be on Spark and this team especially.
This morning I had a very pleasant task to do, and that was to find some pants that it an looked good on me for the craft fair this weekend. I have been doing that recently for the pants I wear every day, but had not yet delved into my "dress" pants. I found three pair which I had previously loved, style pretty much in style and that fit well--They have been hanging unworn for a few years as they just would not come together. At this point, I do not want to wear pants that feel like there should be part of another person in them with me, so even around the house I have been looking for smaller sizes. Such a happy task--and hopefully incentive to keep me accountable during the coming holiday season.
