My contractor did finish his work in my kitchen on Friday, and I have finished the wallpaper. I have some painting that needs to be done--paint was so fresh that the wallpaper paste caused some problems and I have spots to touch up. I also need to paint inside cabinets and drawers that were not emptied during the renovations. Then of course, I need to replace everything that had to be moved. Some of it will be permanently banished--perhaps through a yard sale this spring or summer.

Hope everyone has reached their February goals. Let's hope that March is good to us and we have an early spring.

Well, I will report that after doing the new video yesterday and exercising the abdominal muscles, that I know which muscles I worked yesterday, but they are not painfully sore. I must be exercising them on a regular basis in the walks that target the mid-section. I really do like the videos by Leslie Sansone and Jessica Smith that I am doing.

My kitchen should be finished today, as far as the contractor is concerned. That we leave me with the wallpapering to finish, and a few things to paint or finish on my own as time permits. I do love it.

Hope everyone is reaching their fitness goals for the month of February, and we profit from an extra day to accomplish those goals.

Have just finished my workout, which was a new video that I got last week. The walking portion of it was a 2 mile walk but it incorporated some new moves which specifically targeted the mid-section. I then when on to do one of the floor exercise sessions which targeted the abdominal muscles. Time will tell how sore my muscles are going to be tomorrow. It seemed like I could do all the exercise for as many reps as called for so I did it all. I may regret it, but I think it will be a good test to see how much conditioning this area needs.

Judith--I am glad that you have been feeling stronger recently. I am sure that everyone we join me in praying that this continues and that with your March appointment you find the answers you need. You are the all important glue that hold this team together. My kitchen/pantry renovations are nearing completion and hopefully I will be able to post pictures when the work is done.

Ute, thank you for your kindness, yes I am feeling stronger and better these days, I see a specialist in March so will soon have further answers on what they will do about kidney stones, good news they haven't given me much trouble now for about 1 year, thanking the Lord for His touch on my body....It's good to see you popping in here, I too enjoy hearing from you...Sounds like you had a lovely time with family...Blessings on your day...

Eileen, I am thrilled to hear how your renovations are coming along, you soon will have the home you have been wanting and hoping for. Your new kitchen will be lovely when it is all complete. Ute, I have missed you not being here recently. Glad you got the chance to check in, and hope that your work is going well.

I have had a busy day, since I had an early chiropractor's appointment, and then drove to a town about 25 miles away to renew my driver's license. I actually lived in that town a long time ago, and by going there to renew my license, I was also able to drop off a couple of baskets I am donating to a fund raiser. A man (and his wife) with whom I had attend school from kindergarten through senior high school lost them home due to a fire this winter. I am so glad that everyone is rallying around them, and organizing fund raisers, etc. to help, since they have always been the ones helping others. It is time they were on the receiving side of good deeds.

Hello my friends!!

Eileen..... I can't believe it is almost done. Renovations seemed to take forever, but you are on top of it. Hope you will be able to enjoy your beautiful new kitchen soon. When we had a wood stove, we also used the ashes to make the driveway and walkway less slippery. It was well worth it. I hope eventually we can use the wood stove again. When our basement flooded a few years ago, we had to buy a new water heater and furnace and decided to install them upstairs, so we would never have that problem again. Unfortunately when the furnace kicked in, it pulled air from other rooms, and when the woodstove was going, it pulled smoke smell out of the stoe. Unbearable. And until we can put the piped back into the basement, we will not be using the wood stove. Too bad, because it is the best heat ever :) Also, great job on losing those 5 pounds! I seriously must renovate, lol.

Judith.... how are you these days? I hope the recent health troubles are out of the way and you are doing much better. Thank you for always thinking of us and posting your encouraging words every day. I always look forward to them!

I had a few days off and spent them with my daughters, hubby and daughter Julia's friend Nano. He is Catholic, so we went to a little church in town I had not been to in years. He was pretty stunned after the service, because the pastor kept saying that different scholars really don't think that it happened the way it is written in the bible. That was exactly the reason I had left that church a long time ago. If they don't believe what's in the bible, we might as well use Peter Pan or Alice in Wonderland as our base of faith. Just my opinion. :) I like my bible.
Okay, to all a great day. I am just puttering around the household today, and thought I would spend some time catching up on Spark with everyone.

Good afternoon everyone. I have just proved something to myself during the month of February. Because there has been work going on in my kitchen and pantry, and all the contents of both rooms had to be moved for this work, I have not been snacking between meals as I sometimes do. As a result I have lost five pounds so far this month. Gets I need to hide some of my favorite things such as nuts.

Kitchen is progressing well, but because of the above i am doubly pleased with the renovations. Eileen

Woke up to a very heavy wet snow this morning, and it is now raining. Guess I am going to have an icy driveway again before this is over. I am thankful that I have plenty of wood ashes available to spread on the ice once this is over. My new floor is going down in my kitchen today, so I will have to b more careful with what I track into the house. BUT, my philosophy has always been that it is easier to wash a floor that has had ashes track onto it, than it is to cope with a broken leg or hip from falling.

Another beautiful, but very chilly, day here in Maine. I am still trying to stay out of the way of the activity going on in my kitchen. Today the countertop is being put down with a new sink and faucet installed. I am so happy with the choices I have made as to colors, etc. I think everything will be great when it is done.

I hope everyone on this team is able to make healthy choices to be as healthy as the possible can be.

Finally getting a chance to check in here. So much progress has been made this week. I have mostly been trying to get things moved out of the way of my contractor and stay out of the way so that I don't interfere with the progress. My washer and dryer were delivered today. They will sit in the boxes until there is a chance to install them, but the connections are in and they are here when the schedule calls for their installation.

Hope everyone has had a good week. My thoughts and prayers have been with you, but since I had a basket class yesterday, this is the first time I have actually tried to catch up with e-mail, etc.

On this Monday, with my new flooring going down in my pantry and the fact that it is still very, very cold out, I find it hard to do anything but was the progress in the pantry while huddling around my heat sources.

I will get a workout in eventually, but my DVD player is upstairs, and there is little heat up there. I know that I will warm up as I exercise, but..............

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you out there in Spark People land. Hope you are having a wonderful day.

I have just finished a new workout on a DVD that I just got. It combines interval walks with stretchy band strength training so I am hoping that my tracker counts it as exercise. I may have to move the position of the tracker for this particular workout. I would hate to think I got that much good exercise and not have it count. I know I could record it manually, but since I did a one mile walk section before I started this section, it would be hard to separate the two workouts.

It is bitterly cold outside, but the house is toasty warm with both wood fires going.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. Hope you are planning a great weekend.

It is extremely cold here, so my main focus is staying inside, keeping the fires burning, and keeping warm. I will go do a workout in a few minutes, so that should warm me up. Last night my dog, Pixie, slept up against my back and since she generates a lot of heat, I was nice and warm. She is such a cuddle bug.

A trip out of town to pick up the flooring for my pantry/kitchen remodel. Things are really looking great. Hopefully, I will be able to post pictures when it is done.

Ute, please take care of your knee, and only due the types of exercise that you can with risking injuring it further! It is hard to realize that our bodies sometimes do not do exactly what we wish them to do, but if we work within their limitations we are preserving what they can do for as long as possible.

I have done some shoveling today for my workout and hope that I don't need to do more later, we have just had a snow shower, but it doesn't seem to have accumulated.

I am so excited as one of the cabinet units for my pantry is being installed as I type. I will have to learn how to post pictures here so that I can show everyone the finished results. The colors I picked for the walls and wood trim go so well together that I am so pleased.

Hello all,

thanks Judith for the well wishes for my knee. I am careful and it has not complained. I did low impact aerobics while watching a show, and used small hand weights, so I did get a really nice workout in. I kept it short, 20 minutes, but that is enough. I do not want there to be any trouble.

Eileen, so happy that your renovation is coming along and that you are happy about the changes. I also started rearranging my kitchen to some degree, but it basically just involved some new curtains :)

Shawfan - I encourage you on your journey, and I can relate in that my weekend was not as productive as I wanted it to be. I guess we do the best we can, and have to settle for that. I am hoping I can get back to my 10,000 steps per day today, but as yet my workout is still ahead of me. We are supposed to have a winter storm coming in later today, so will more than likely be shoveling tomorrow.

Hello everyone. Thanks Judith, for your continued encouragement!
The weekend wasn't the best for me. Had a lot to work on with granddaughter's 8th birthday party Saturday then DH wanted me to go with him to shoot photos today.
Was a whole day thing with him and a lot of time spent in the car. I did manage to get some house cleaning done both early this morning and again this evening, once we got home, so that counts, even though the fitbit didn't pick that up.
Looking forward to a good week ahead, although quite colder than we've had over the past week into this weekend.

The 10,000 steps and 500 burned calories through exercise have slipped a little this weekend since I had a lot of work I had to do to get ready for my contractor on Monday morning. I have finally gotten my pantry almost completely emptied out and everything stashed until I can move it back in to the new shelving. I did have to shovel yesterday and managed a three mile walking video today, but that did not give me the required number of steps. I thought I was walking quite a bit with the work I was doing, but my tracker either didn't record it all or didn't think I was moving far enough at a time.

Am so excited to see my kitchen and pantry finally being renovated to how I want it.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend! I went shopping to replace my microwave today, and I couldn't be happier. My knee is doing okay, thanks for your thoughts, Julie, and I did some really good stretching to limber it up and get those tight muscles a bit more flexible. No need to give injury a chance. I did cardio, but kept it to my Deck of Cards workout and only 20 minutes. It was a gentle exercise, knee raises, side steps and big arm movements for a nice elevated heart rate. Lovely what one can learn from Spark suggestions and videos. I have been more consistent with exercise since my knee has been iffy, since I am scared to be unable to work out and then lose momentum. Makes one cautious! I really feel much better when I get my exercise in. I bought a Hula Hoop today and found that now that I am 30 years older than when I really used one last, it hurts my knees something aweful to try and hoop. Might be trying it again tomorrow, or give it a little rest.

So sorry about your knee Ute. Hope you get to feeling better real soon. I agree, and Love Jessica Smith and Peanut! Follow her videos all the time!

I'm proud of myself and have to give myself a lot of credit today! I've stuck with a good, healthy eating plan all day, except for a small chocolate cookie, which didn't taste that great. Had a fruit smoothie for breakfast, a spinach salad for lunch, without meat, greek yogurt and an apple with natural peanut butter for snack.

Haven't had any real exercise yet today, other than climbing stairs. Trying to decide if I want to go to the gym or go home and climb on the elliptical. Either place will be elliptical workout. The gym's are "looser" if you will, than mine at home. Can't figure out how to loosen it up. Then again, why make it easier, right? emoticon

Good night, lovely friends,
I am checking in quite late, but I can sleep in tomorrow. I have a 2-11 pm shift the next two days. My left knee is busted (again) and I dare not do any kind of cardio workout. I actually did chair cardio sitting in my bed, I wasn't even in a chair. I can't believe how great a workout that is for my arms, shoulders and abs. I used part of the Jessica Smith youtube video series. With her little dog Peanut. So cute. I definitely have to say.... I have the highest respect for people who do these workouts on a regular basis. That ought to make us fitter.

Well, I am going to sleep now, but will see soon. Love to all, and prayers as always.

Started with 45 minute walk this morning.
21 minute lower body workout with Jamie McFaden video.
31 minute elliptical workout this evening.
Stair climbing throughout the day.

Over 14,056 steps today

Just finished a four mile walk video Have not checked steps yet, but had no problem with the 10,000 steps or 500 burned calories yesterday. I have also taken some things to our local landfill, and met with my contractor to finalize the paint color for all the woodwork. I am also going to take a trip this afternoon to a wallpaper store that is about 15 miles away to pick out my wallpaper. I think I am going to finally get a kitchen that I feel good working in.

It is a beautiful day here today, but tomorrow is supposed to be a mix of winter weather and rain. Hopefully not freezing rain that leave everything so icy.

Hope everyone is off to a good start for February.

Have set a couple of new goals for February--try to walk 10,000 steps per day and burn 500 calories through exercise per day. Wish me well, since my weigh in this morning showed that a couple of pounds were rather sneaky and didn't really disappear. Only lost 3 pounds rather than 5 for January. BUT, that was a net loss of 3 pounds. I tried to make excuses like I had been working out a lot more so the two pounds were fat converted to muscle, etc., but I know I could have eaten better than I did last week. In the end, I faced the fact that I indulged my snack cravings a little too often.

Hope everyone is off to a good start for February.

Hello friends!

It is still January, but in 1 1/2 hours it will be February, so I guess we can already use this thread to chat in . I have tomorrow off, and had a very lively weekend working at the vet. So after my 20 minute workout, it was eat a nice healthy meal and then go to bed. I think my pillow is calling.

Am definitely on board for another month. In fact I have decided to try to up my tracker step count on most days to 10,000 and to set the goal of burning 500 calories during my workout each day. I have the Spark activity tracker so I should be able to keep track easily. Of course, I will be in the middle of kitchen and pantry renovations, but I should be able to at least do a workout every day.
