has anyone gotten the newer iPad? I was looking at the mini and in truth I like it over the larger one, but price wise its still out of reach for me to be able to get it (a macbook is still a better option for me).

I have an iPad and I actually feel like my life was complete befre I had it. It's a rather expensive toy. If it broke, I probaby would not replace it. Or I would get a Kindle Fire.

I've actually just put on my xmas list an iPad, figure it can't hurt - even if we can't afford it its something to aim and save for.

Question for you iPad owners: Have you used it outside yet? I spend a lot of time outdoors by the pool, on my balcony or at the beach reading, and I've heard it's difficult to see in the sunlight. Of course, this came from a kindle user, so I'm not sure if it's true or not. If anyone has had any experience, I'd like to hear about it. THanks! Cheryl

I had some money set aside and I got one a couple weeks after they came out. I know it's called a big iPod Touch by a lot of people, but once you use it for awhile you realize that it is much more. It has become my main source for books, news, weather, and the few games that I play. Even here on SparkPeople I find myself using the iPad (as I am now).

In the past I would pull my laptop out and use it in the evening. Now there are many nights were my laptop doesn't even come out of it's bag.

It really is an amazing device.

I teased my boss after she asked if I though an ipad would be a good gift for a birthday and I said yes and mine is coming up. It was worth a try.

I played with one in the store and liked it but I think I can live without it for now.

I pre-ordered my iPad yesterday or the day before - whichever day they started allowing pre-orders - so I'm excited for April 3rd!

Edit: I guess I should say "reserved" one, not pre-ordered. You can reserve one to pick up at an Apple store on April 3rd.

I'm definitely getting one, but not until I have the cash to pay for it up front. I love my iTouch, but have always wanted a bigger screen. I will get a lot of use out of the web-surfing and simple editing capabilities when I'm sitting on the train or on the couch watching TV.

Am considering the one with 3G, as travel with grandchildren quite often (we have 15 grandchildren) and currently entertain many of them with my iTouch or iPhone, so a bigger screen for games and videos would be great for them.

Do also read lots of news, books, and e-mail when we travel, so would be of use to me as well and smaller to carry with me...

I was extremely excited about an "Apple Tablet," but what I got was a giant iPhone. I'm still not 100% I'll get one, but I probably will. I have no use for a laptop, but I do like the mobility of the iPad.

I just wish it were more of a computer, and also that it came with a stylus for taking notes.

Not sure about it as its not up here in Canada yet because there is no one who is able to carry the service apparently .. Rogers and Bell apparently are set up for it to connect to their services or something according to apple canada.

But it looks like an interesting device from what I've seen of it online

It's an interested device with a lot of subtle applications. Like the iPhone, I think the iPad is a going to be a trojan horse in a lot of markets. It's certainly going to destroy the market for a lot of other services and gadgets.

The one thing that I'm not totally convinced with is the ebook feature. At $500 bucks, I don't think I would buy an iPad for ebooks when I can get an e-ink type device for $200-300 dollars that has better reading characteristics.

So what are everyone's thoughts on the iPad?

I think i'll get one for development purposes, not sure I am sold on the concept yet tho. It could be a great device for the "older generation" since there is no multitasking. It appears quite quick and a 10 hour battery life will be nice for long flights.
