DONNAJEAN,
your health is making great progress already. Look at what you wrote:
"My gut used to spasm all the time (it looked like a baby kicking in a pregnant woman's belly) but that hasn't been happening either....A whole month without that happening is amazing!"

and on the fibromyalgia:
" I almost read a whole book. That is great though because most of the time I can't concentrate enough to read through a flare up. "

So I'd guess that you fibro flareup isn't as bad as before, since you were able to concentrate. Hopefully it's shorter too.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I'm happy to wait and see how things turn out. I am really so glad about the IBS not happening and that is a big deal for me. My gut used to spasm all the time (it looked like a baby kicking in a pregnant woman's belly) but that hasn't been happening either. Things definitely have improved a lot in that aspect and that is a big victory for me. I mean, the month is almost over! A whole month without that happening is amazing! I never thought of wheat causing that. Now I'm curious what would happen if I had some. Not doing it though. Not yet at least.

I am on day 2 of my fibro flare now and I'm hoping it will chill out soon. I didn't get to sleep until around 11 am. I almost read a whole book. That is great though because most of the time I can't concentrate enough to read through a flare up. I'm very grateful for that. One of my sons cooked dinner tonight and he took care of the dog all day for me. I was still sleeping when my husband came home from work. I'm so glad I have family here to help. I didn't make it to my Restorative Yoga class but I can do some stretches at home instead. My husband just ordered me a treadmill for my birthday so that will help me move some more. I don't get out of my house much during the winter because of the cold here in Alaska. My birthday is on the 27th and it will get here the day after. I'm looking forward to that.

My husband and both sons are going to cook Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow so I can rest. I have to admit I am not feeling as strong now that there are pies in my frig and fruit stocked up etc. I think I'll make through the day though. My husband got a lot of stuff that I can have.

it was like that for me, too. one day, someone that sees me not really often came up to me and said HOLLS...you arent limping!!! i've never ever seen you not limp!!
i didnt even realize it, but when i thought about it it was like James...oh, yeah!! thats better!!

now..dont get me wrong. i'm not totally pain free. days like today when i'm scrubbing floors and lifting a lot and not getting much chance to sit and rest a few mins are still hell. i'm on my second dose of pain meds where i usually only do one a day, and on my second interim motrin dose..and i usually take NONE. but 2 years ago i could NEVER have handled a day like this without a lot of help..

Donna Jean,
well your IBS is better. You wrote: "When I say sick I mean I had bad diarrhea that racked my whole body and caused me to feel ill for a long time afterward.", and you've been good for 3 weeks, so that is a big victory already. I'd put money on wheat being your problem, though I could be wrong.

Things like arthritis probably develop over a long time, and probably heal over a long time, ... so give it time. My ulcerative colitis took about 4 weeks before the thought came to me that it was "better" not 100% gone, but better. I'd say it took 3 months for me to be symptom and medication free.

I think Holly has more experience and input on Fibromyalgia and Keto and how long it took for her to get better.

Issues where what you eat slowly degrades your health, and so slowly that you don't make the connection, those issues are going to have a slow healing back to health.

Be patient DonnaJean. i noticed that too..it took care of the diarrhea that i had with IBS. it did take a while for the pain to be lessened...and the sleeping to get better. I'm so hoping it helps you as much as it has me!

I really hope this diet will help with the fibro but it hasn't yet. It has only been 3 weeks now, I think. Whenever I have a bad pain day I usually don't feel like eating much and I just want to stay in bed. I usually can't focus enough to read or do anything productive. I do have the temperature issues too and I spend a lot of time huddled under a heated blanket when I'm having a Fibro flare. I also have Psoriatic Arthritis which is an auto immune disease so that causes a lot of inflammation. My Rheumatologist said Fibro doesn't cause inflammation. I've heard some people say it does. Either way I have enough. I also have IBS and oddly enough I haven't had any problems since I've started this diet. The doctors always told me it was FAT that made me get sick after eating and to avoid fatty foods. I usually get really sick at least once a week even though I was really watching the amount of fat in the food I ate. When I say sick I mean I had bad diarrhea that racked my whole body and caused me to feel ill for a long time afterward. I started this diet on Nov 1st and haven't had a single incident this month so far. I'm pretty sure it isn't fat now lol Maybe it was CARBS?

I haven't slept all night because I'm so achy but I have been able to read thank heavens. I'm usually a big reader but I hit a slump (bit of depression) and haven't been reading much. I'm hoping to get my reading mojo back because I miss it.

well let me tell you from experience. I have pain. lots of it. to the point where my doctor is always surprised that i can walk with it.
Part of it is fibromyalgia. part is lyme. along with lyme comes Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
and i cant even BEGIN to tell you how much keto has helped me.
Its why i never, ever cheat. its why i am so strict, following it exactly.
i dont like to hurt...and i know if i stick with it, the hurt is much less....

This topic is inspired by DONNAJEAN's wall post bringing up fibromyalgia.

My cousin has fibromyalgia, as does about 2% of the population. I myself have ulcerative colitis (in remission for 8 years now), which is probably unrelated to fibromyalgia, though the jury is still out on fibromyalgia being an auto-immune disease (body's self defence mechanism attack the body, not an external invader).

So will eating Keto help with fibromyalgia? Here is one web-page:
www.everydayhealth.com/fibrom
yalgia/tr
eatment/drug-free-ways-treat-
fibro
myalgia/#diet-and-nutrition-are-h
i
ghly-individual

Where it says:
"No single diet has been shown to improve these symptoms."

www.everydayhealth.com/fibro
myalgia/tr
eatment/drug-free-ways-treat
-fibro
myalgia/

On that page it says:
(According to Dr. Shelley-Tremblay, research indicates that people with fibromyalgia do not metabolize carbohydrates and sugars normally and that many “improve dramatically when they are on a low-carb or keto (low-carb, high-fat, moderate-protein) diet.”

On this page are a list of fibromyalgia symptoms:
www.medicinenet.com/script/ma
in/art.as
p?articlekey=89309

which I'll list here:
1. Cognitive and memory problems (sometimes called "fibro fog")
2. Trouble sleeping
3. Morning stiffness
4. Headaches
5. Irritable bowel syndrome
6. Painful menstrual periods
7. Numbness or tingling of hands and feet
8. Restless legs syndrome
9. Temperature sensitivity
10. Sensitivity to loud noises or bright lights

My thoughts on Keto and some of these symptoms are as follows....

1. Possibly. Type-3 diabetes, where the brain itself can't get fuelled by carbs, has a possible escape by being fuelled by ketones

3. If carbs are associated with inflammation and arthritis, perhaps Keto can help with this.

5. For myself with ulcerative colitis, which is related to, but worse than IBS eating Keto made a huge difference for the better.

7. I had this too, due to low vitamin B absorption related to IBS. Vitamin B supplements helped a lot, seemed to be a nerve issue.
