STARFISHK,
well done. That was not easy. Returning them shows commitment.

One likes certain things, and wishes there were very low carb version of high carb things, buy often that is not the case.

STARFISHK,
there are many types of carbohydrates. Any type is made of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms.

There are many types of carbohydrates, glucose, fructose, maltodextrin, .... many many. All with slightly different configurations of those atoms and with different calories per gram, 3.85, 3.92, 4.11 etc. which we tend to approximate by just 4 calories per gram.

Fibre is just one of many types of carbohydrates. Even then there is soluble fibre, and insoluble fibre, and the bacteria in our gut can certainly digest some of that.

So how did we get those very precise numbers of calories per gram? Not from test on people, no, in a lab, with some chemistry going on (maybe just burning it). How close is that to digestion? Not very close. So why do we think that fibre has no calories for humans? Well maybe less than other types of carbs, but zero? So I would err on the side of caution.

P.S. I know those Atkins bars well. emoticon . Sadly they each have my daily number of carbs, in one bar.

the old feeling, proposed by a doctor, was that you could subtract fiber and sugar alcohols from the total carb count to get net. (if i'm not mistaken, this was something proposed by the atkins diet..but i may be wrong on that.)
He has since recanted and apologized. They have done more studies showing it does, all, count. trust me...i'd way rather do net...LOL. but...i also know i have a problem with sweet addiction. so, i mostly stay away..because sweet is sweet, and i have too much, even of the natural sweeteners besides sugar.
many people flatly refuse to go to total..personal choice, as always. But i prefer to know..and i changed my thoughts accordingly.

What's the difference between the actual carb count and net carb count? I know it's the calculation of fiber and sugar alcohols that makes up the difference... this sucks... there was chocolate peanut butter bar that just looks sooooo good LOL.

I used to eat Atkins bars, not products so much, just those.

I thought they had a few grams of carbs each. That is the idea you get from the front of the bar, where is says things like "2g net Atkins count (TM)". Its the (TM), or the little * at the end of it. If your read the nutrition label on the back the each bar has about 20 grams of carbs.

I don't know about their other products. My weakness is candy bars. I'm superman and it is my kryptonite, so I stay away from kryptonite.

to add...Atkins and keto are not the same. Atkins is low carb...high protein. The induction phase is closer to keto, but not the rest. Keto is very low carb, moderate protein, high fat. So Atkins products are formulated for a different ratio than keto is.

I did Atkins and gained...really. 11 pounds following it to a t,,in one months time. Its one of the things that had me hesitating when i was told about keto. For me, keto works where Atkins didn't..so i'm wary of things with the Atkins name on them.

anything packaged processed as they are is probably not your best choice. here's an example..when i first came on this team, i was eating atkins bars. only 2 net carbs!! woohoo!! James said..do you know how many total carbs they are?
but...net is how to do it, right? not really...they are like 25-30 carbs per wee little bar!!! when I stopped eating them, i started doing WAY better.
I now count total carbs, which is what most experts recommend. I think probably occasionally it wont hurt you, might stall you, but its your choice...
but i'd steer clear of them.

personally..if something has a long ingredient list, with a lot of things i have zero clue what they are, its probably not something i want to eat....

I've read mixed posts about whether atkin's products are keto friendly... any advice?
