You can easily make your own nut butters if you have a food processor..just put them in and turn it on. It is like crunchy pb, only with smaller chunks.
If you are worried about the eggs you could beat them then heat them..can’t remember what the temp is.
I know where I’m from the only time there was a problem was the “farm fresh” ones that weren’t washed properly. I was skeptical when I got the recipe too..but haven’t had problems. But I sure understand!!

I can't find sugar free peanut butter anywhere. I've checked 4 different supermarkets, as well as Walmart. I think I've seen people post to look for 100% peanuts as the ingredient, but everything I found that said "natural" had added sugar.

Am I misunderstanding the meaning of "Natural" and/or "sugar free"?

Holly I thought OH NO! Raw eggs! Having worked for Public Health for almost 35 years, we saw too many cases of salmonella and almost always, it was due to undercooked (over-easy) eggs. So I'll have to pass on that one. Ha!

But thanks for the other suggestions. You mentioned MCT oil. I had forgotten that I purchased some and also bought some Almond butter, so I think that's what I'll go for the next time I come up short.

I'm not a big fan of eggs unless there are enough other ingredients mixed in. Sounds crazy, but I couldn't choke down a boiled egg for the life of me, but if I chop one up into small pieces, I find they add a nice flavor to a salad. Even typing it sounds crazy, so I guess it is. And I can eat a half deviled egg as long as the "stuffing" is pretty flavorful. Yep, it's official. I'm crazy.

As I posted yesterday, I hadn't met my fat %, so I consumed 3 TB of coconut oil straight. It wasn't horrible - tasteless - but I really don't want to do that again.

I feel like I'm choosing some higher fat foods to eat, but still come up short at the end of the day.

I would appreciate some tips to increase that. For lunch, I'm eating sausage links with olive oil drizzled over them. With guacamole and a high fat (12g) keto muffin for breakfast, I still have 60gm of fat to consume for the day! So, I'm going to eat 4 fat bombs, which will then leave 19 grams to have for dinner.

I'm finding it hard to choose higher fatty foods, so any help would be appreciated.

Wanda you are fine. Some people get meters to be sure they are in ketosis. you are losing well, feel good, know what you are eating. Its not something necessary. I have a cheap breath meter...i check it when i get bloodwork done and its always the same...i only use it once in a while to be sure. Some people like to check daily. its personal preference.
I will say that there is tons of information on NOT using the urine tests. they are ok before you get into ketosis, but once in, you are burning the ketones not spilling them so most get a false negative on the test, and think they arent in ketosis when they are. Hope this helps!

Karen KD -

Curious what do you mean by recording your ketones? Is there something I'm not doing besides 5% carbs, 20% protein, 75% fat? I want to make sure I'm doing everything according to the book for best results.

Thank you!

KDGIRL (Karen),
that is a great path, and realistic, a pound a week of loss. The other good thing is that you've found things you like to eat (and drink).

Joy you and I are almost in the same position!! Except for the moving part. I (re)started my keto on the 10th of January and I've lost 11.6 pounds. I had a major plateau for almost a month in between then and now. I just started recording my ketones, and that's made a world of difference for me. Today's was a pleasant 4.8!! I did 23 hours of fasting yesterday as well.

My 30th wedding anniversary is the end of June, and we are going to San Francisco and Napa Valley to celebrate. I want to look good and feel good by then, James I'm jumping on losing 10-15 more pounds by then!!

I feel like I am in the keto zone. Do not have any desire to waiver. But still a glass of wine now and then. So I'm not feeling cranky.

that is 14 pounds down in 9 weeks. Really really good.

About ten weeks to the wedding. Who knows, you could loose another 10 to 15 pounds, thats possible...

Eat healthy!

Hi, I'm checking in since I can't be online as much as before. I'm down 14 lbs total since 27 Jan. when I started the Keto way. I did break through my plateau number I couldn't get past for a few years. My blood sugar is still excellent.
I have not been as diligent this month as I have used some Atkin shakes and snacks (chocolate covered almonds). I'm so busy packing getting ready to move closer to my kids & grand-kids. As well as tons of paperwork since my hubby passed earlier this month.
But I think I can really make my next goal next month as I will get back to 15-20 carbs and 16 hours between dinner and breakfast. With one of my granddaughters getting married in June I have a great incentive to not only be my healthiest but look my best also. So now that I've written a book here, I'll wish you all a great Easter week-end.

Never give up on yourself. You are well able to accomplish the goal set before you.

If you make keto versions please pass on a recipe
I am sure Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Switzerland would happily adopt these versions.

I happily ate the atkins bars, too, James, totally convinced net carbs were the way to go. Until you enlightened me. Thats when i started really reading and learning....i was so disappointed...

i have only had a pure protein bar once. said friend gave me one..before i started keto and after he had surgery. he would go through a box of them in a day...

Holly (NIGHTSKYSTAR),
ahh bars ...

Well I used to eat various bars. Like Atkins bars with 2 grams of carbs each, and then the (TM) around that 2 grams ... read fine print, read nutrition label, and that is a net Atkins count (whatever that is, and I'm sure Dr. Atkins, who died in 2003, would be really upset that they bear his name).

As I've mentioned I ate about 5 one day, heck just 10 grams of carbs and my blood sugar went through the roof, even the next morning. Then I read the real nutrition label. So 17 grams of carbs each times 5, plus what I ate during the day, adding up to about 90 grams. As a diabetic I can't handle that.

-----
So pure protein bars, lovely name, I used to eat those too. 40% of the weight of one of those is protein, so more than meat, but also about 40% of the weight is carbs, where meat is pretty much 0%, so one 50 gram "pure protein" bars has 20 grams of carbs....
-----
I keep browsing the bars in grocery stores, ... eternal disappointment.

Wanda you are doing fantastic!! I'm afraid with the way my friends eat they will be putting weight back on. I would never say anything, but i do worry. Each of them lost 100 pounds with the sleeve. But they dont eat any differently than they did before they had the surgery..just less. I hear them both say...sooner or later it will catch up with us. They are fairly young and do exercise a lot, maybe thats why they are ok so far.
You are an inspiration!!! So glad for your success!!

Richard..my first degree was in forestry. the college is a hotel/restaurant/business/environmental college. When I graduated i went to work as a head lifeguard/ interior park ranger depending on season, and I also worked through the conservation dept at the 1980 olympics. I saw a need..and i loved to bake..so I supplemented my income with cakes and cookies and breads and pies. It worked into wedding cakes, and then state rules changed...in 2000 I got licensed, built the now required separate location. By now i was teaching..but the bakery got so busy I had to stop to do it full time. I service a couple big resorts in Lake Placid, NY..doing all their wedding cakes/cupcakes. I do custom work only..no walk ins. people call and order pastries, cakes, whatever, and i either deliver or have them ready for pickup. Its challenging and fun.

The resorts are high end destination type places, and they have all kinds of requests. No peanuts for some. Vegan at times. sugar free. one wedding the groom was wheat free the bride dairy free...that was challenging! I also am happy to recreate a cherished food memory for people..Aunt Beana's rock cake...or Grammys calzones..or whatever. I have a catering license, too, but seldom use it. It was only natural to start some keto items, and i am getting quite a few orders for them!
its fun...i like the challenges.

Holly. I would eat other things occasionally, too. If I wanted a piece of cake or a small bag of chips, I could eat them. They call them "slider foods" in the sleeve world. They tend to slide right through, so I can eat a lot more junk food than I can healthy foods. Sweets are such a trigger food for me. Which is exactly what I was eating in excess that resulted in a 25 lb weight gain! I was eating just like I did before surgery - not correctly at all. I was snacking on junk all day. Foolish for sure! Keto seems to be working. I've lost 8 lb and I've lost inches. Monday will be 3 weeks, so 8 pounds is good. I'll measure again on Monday.

It was everything I could do to choke down the coconut oil (mainly because I don't like coconut so I thought it would taste like it), but I was surprised. It really had no flavor at all. Not that I want to do that again!! But at least know it's an option.

I had the same fears of lap band because I too live 2 hours from the bariatric doctor. I'm so glad I chose my "Sleevie Wonder". It works as long as I do what I need to do to help it work. I don't have to take as many supplements as persons who had gastric bypass, because I digest foods and absorb the nutritients from food naturally. But I do take calcium (because I'm old). Occasionally I need to take iron, but my labs are generally perfect.

And how long ago?
With catering to all those different specialty customers, did that evolve with time?

Yikes!! i know people eat butter and coconut oil plain..never been able to myself..mind block probably!!
yeah, i have friends that are a couple that had the sleeve done. they eat EVERYTHING. poutine, baked goods, whatever. they just eat small portions, and they havent gained any back..they had the surgery 3 or 4 years ago. He lost far more than she did...but what a difference!!
Like i said..i wouldnt begin to know what to tell you on that. my friends eat a lot of "pure protein" bars. like..they buy them by the case. Not so sure they are doing it as the doc wants. He is one of the docs I talked to about it..and he showed me the food lists and i know a lot of the stuff they have werent on them.
Do you have to do the handfuls of supplements like they do? The first doc i talked to wanted to do the band on me...when i heard about the choking and all, and knowing i'd be 2 hours from help, i decided no. Then the second came closer..about an hour..and does the sleeve or bypass. Keto was my last try before going for the surgery. I'd tried everything else.
I didnt know a thing about keto when i started..my son had had great success with it and helped all he could but as the days wore on and it was working i read everything i could find on it..stayed off reddit, only because there is SO much conflicting information you can find anything you WANT it to be from someone there...
I know there are a lot of people on the facebook pages i'm on who had surgery and gained back the weight . they are doing well with keto. as are you!!
ahh a potato. i crave nothing, but i sure would love to taste one of those again. but i figure i had them for 57 years. now its time to not...haha.

Holly - the recommendation of the surgeons and the consultations with nutritionist say to eat "natural" carbs - those in fruits, veggies, dairy. So when I say carbs in respect to weight loss surgery rules, I'm talking about flour, sugars. Potatoes are even ok as long as you eat them last.

The surgery I had is called the Vertical Gastrectomy Sleeve. Basically, they surgically removed 85% of my stomach. Let me tell you, THAT was a very stressful decision to make! But it was to the point that my life depended upon it. I had tried so many times to lose, but the massive amount of weight I needed to lose (165 lb) became just too much to do it on my own

My stomach has stretched some, but I still have considerable restriction. I can eat about 3.5 oz of meat, but then I can't eat anything else. There just isn't room in my small stomach.

That said, with Keto, I have days when it's hard for me to get in the necessary food to meet the Keto requirements. I generally can control it pretty well, but we are invited out to dinner, so I went to the website of the restaurant to find the highest fat, but no carb choices.

With this information entered into MFP for today, I have gone over my carbs by 4g. Protein is fine, but I was 51 grams of fat too low!! I've spent time trying to see where I could add fat to the day without adding more carbs. (I did eat 2 TB of PB, which is why my carbs were so much) I Googled for suggestions. And finally I just "ate" 3 TB of coconut oil straight out of the spoon!!! It didn't taste bad at all, but I did need to take a big drink of water afterwards. Crazy old woman that I am, it got my fat grams up to where they needed to be. LOL

KATHLEEN624 (Kathleen),
you have a very long and almost empty "signature" It has
"Kathleen in PA"
and then a whole bunch of blank lines. You can delete the blank lines (and I think that clears up everything, even old posts with that signature).

The way to do it is to go to the top right of the page, where your ID appears as a sort of tab. There are four things up there:
"New Mail"
"Help"

Karen..congratulations on the loss!! You are doing great!!
As to your question...you are going to find as many answers to that as there are differing opinions on keto. I personally dont think going under a day here and there is going to be a problem. I did some looking this morning after reading your post..I follow some experts that are having huge success with the people that follow their way...people who were stalled doing it other way, etc..and they all totally abhor the old "fat as a lever" theory. They encourage adding more fat and eating a higher amount of calories. They have many discussions as to why, the science behind it, etc, coming from all angles. One of the coaches I used is adamant about reaching all your calorie and macro levels, the other is fine with not eating if you arent hungry, as long as your percentages are right. I dont like feeling over full so I listen to my body on it..some days i reach the goals some i dont, but i always go with more fat rather than more protein or carb.

Sadie I so agree with you...I worked hard to get here, and i'm not going to go back to my old ways!!

Memaw...I didnt know you had weight loss surgery...I wouldnt begin to know anything about protocol on that..your anatomy was altered so there may be different protocol? You did say one thing I will comment on..you said the rules are protein, fruits and veggies first, save carbs till last...but fruit IS carbs..and lots of veg is pretty high, too..
I give you a lot of credit for having the surgery. People think its an easy fix and its not. its all hard work no matter what route you go...and sometimes i think the surgery route must be more difficult.
All that said,,,i think when you have had the surgery you need to do what your medical professionals tell you. Unless we have an RD or a doctor familiar with WLS on the forum, I dont think any of us has the knowledge to be giving advice on it/

Thanks, James. Once I reach my goal, I will go back to eating the way in which I was taught to maintain my weight after I had the surgery. This would mean, low carb, as the rules for those of us who had weight loss surgery is protein, fruits and veggies first. Save carbs till last, because generally, I'm too full to eat the carbs once I eat the other.

I gained the 25 lb by ignoring those rules after a hip fracture, and total knee replacement in both knees. I went back to eating the way I did before, so it was my own fault. And I couldn't exercise. I think we probably all know someone who had the surgery and gained all their weight back. That's because they don't follow the rules to keep it off. It isn't easy. It's a brain thing, not a "hunger" thing. I have 3 friends who had the surgery and are now just as big as they were before the surgery, I feel bad for them and see how they look at me and make comments about how the surgery worked for me, but didn't work for them. Of course, it did work for them, but they didn't do what is required for them to be successful in the long term.

I'm actually somewhat uncomfortable when I'm around them, because I feel like they resent me to some extent. They don't seem to "see" that I've gained 25 lb. But I sure do!

Kdgirl, In my experience once in a while that is fine. Too often of not eating enough fat your body will start to think it's starving. Weight loss is great, however hair loss which is a common side effect of not enough calories is not a good problem to have. Been there and done that! You really want to feed and nourish your body. Get active and your appetite should help you eat your fat while still helping your metabolism heal and correct your weight.

Moparmemow ,
I'm at goal weight and maintaining on keto. I lost the last 15 to 20 pounds with keto. I found that just decreasing my exercise a tad, and eating the same, average of 1900 calories a day, keeps me at goal. I know I would gain if I introduced carbs and I know my hunger would increase and my energy would drop. However being in ketosis is the reason I eat this way. I think people forget about the ketosis part and are focused on how many carbs they can get away with before they gain. We all have different goals, mine is to maintain my fitness lifestyle and have plenty of energy for the things I love.

Good morning all!! I've lost nearly 4 pounds this week - checking my ketones every day. 3.4 this morning, 2.4 yesterday. Those are the best numbers I've ever seen (granted I just got my keto meter a few weeks ago). Maybe the woosh I've heard about, maybe just stricter compliance with keto. I'm also trying to track, doing the best I can there.

And this includes going out for dinner two times. I'm a very happy camper.

My current question for the experts: If you hit your carb target (less than 20 g) and you hit your protein target (40 but less than 60 g) and everything else is fat, if you are not that hungry, and you don't get the fat target up there, (maybe close but not 80) does your body eat the rest of the fat off your body fat? Or are you screwing up your percentages?

I certainly get to my target calories most days, but not on some since I'm just not that hungry. Is that when the body deep dives into the fat for the rest of your nutrition? Just wondering since this team has some very educated members.

MOPARMEMAW,
You certainly can use Keto as a tool rather than a lifestyle. When you get to your goal weight, or close enough that you are happy, you can re-introduce some carbs.

For myself, as a type-2 diabetic, I just won't go there because of blood sugar issues. However for others this is not the issue. However, you need to take care that you don't go fully back to how you used to eat. I certainly learned a lot about healthy eating from Keto, and I didn't know a heck of a lot before that, I just ate.

So it is a balancing act. If you re-intorduce some carb you will know yourself what happens. Does it get out of control? Or is it manageable? Everyone is different.

The worst case is probably that it gets out of control, and you know it, but you stop before all the weight comes back on. Then you head back to eating Keto again, but at least you have a plan rather than feeling hopeless and that there is nothing you can do.

Richard I already do lots of gluten free, sugar free, dairy free. I’ve shipped to Hawaii, Canada. Most states in the us. I don’t advertise the special diet items that part is all word of mouth. I was lucky enough to have a Ketovangelist coach order from me for her birthday and she tells people..they order and tell people, so it’s pretty steady. I’m a lucky girl!

There is a leisure centre with a swimming pool nearby.

But seriously do you find there is a market for Low-GI or reduced-carb products with you bakery?
Not necessarily for Keto people, but Diabetics would be interested.
Pests like gluten-intolerant would also like bakery goods that accommodated their needs.

Years ago a Bakers delight franchise near use used to make herb rolls that were to die for.
A pleasant Sunday morning for use used to be a herb roll and a croissant, heated in a microwave, in bed with a coffee.
Bakers delight also made very good Cape-seed rolls and bread and were one of the first to introduce soy and linseed bread here.

Cheers Richard

Thanks Holly. I will just keep on keepin' on and "test drive" adding in a few healthy carbs after I've reached my goal. Have you ever slipped up for a day and had ice cream, cookies or the like? These are real trigger foods for me. I can't eat just 1 cookie. If I eat 1, I'll just go"hog wild" literally and eat as many as possible. Sugar really is a drug for me.

for most, its a lifetime thing. Many people get really sick if they increase their carbs. I've seen posts about stomach trouble. feeling ill. and then have trouble getting back on.
This doesnt happen to everyone..i have gone off 3 times in the entire time i've been keto..planned, and unavoidable..i didnt have any ill effects, and i had no trouble getting right back on. My son, however, feels like crap, is nauseous and has stomach problems, and has stated many times its just not worth it.

The other thing is. From the information i can find. Eating high fat and very low carb is, of course, healthy for us. Add in the carbs and you are setting yourself up for some bad health problems. Again..this is what I've read, and been told..I have no proof of it. But personally i'm not willing to chance it.

I think its an individual decision, as we say often for everything. I had hoped i could someday have a peach again, or a few bites of potato. After reading what i have, and seeing others saying their problems with it, I think I will be on the no side. I only have a few pounds till goal...and thats just a weight chart goal..i may be done now, I may do more. My doc is happy where i am ...hard decision!!

Good question...thank you for posing it!

Has anyone here reached their goal? And if so, do you continue on Keto, with the occasional sweets? Or did you introduce a few high grain breads, etc? Someone was just asking me if this is a lifetime thing and I really couldn't answer her question. My thought was to reach my goal, then introduce some healthy carbs back into my daily diet slowly to see how I react to them. Thoughts?

Dearest Melissa,
I feel for your boy, and you.
This way of life is still new for my husband and I. But the mother of my stepbabies has done this for a few years. The kids don't know it but they are keto. They eat what we eat at our house. Their mom feeds them what she eats at her house and sends healthy lunches to school. Not to say they never eat cookies or candies ever, but it is kept to a minimum. They are all so healthy. In fact, my 10 year old boy previously had a problem gaining weight and growing and this has leveled him out. It's just so much healthier.
I can't tell you what to do, but I know we try to show them what to do without making them food or weight obsessed. And they are thriving now!

Melissa, we moms have tough decisions to make every day concerning our children. Your son is still young but at a crucial age when gaining extra weight might cause some health problems but also peer pressure. Of course, kids will always eat carbs and occasional junk food at school. But I think if his meals at home were just prepared healthy without carbs, and not stressing that he is on a diet, that will help a lot. (Sometimes the less said the better/they can be so sensitive about their weight)
I did that with my two children. Do your best to give them healthy meals at home limiting the carbs and it really makes a difference. maybe not KETO but enough to help him lose weight without even mentioning it. Keep him active with maybe a walk after dinner? One rule we did have when they were young, NO SODA. To this day they do not drink soda and their children don't either. Best of luck Melissa.

Mellisa,
I'm glad you wrote "I lost 10 pounds in just a month" instead of "I only lost 10 pounds in a month". That is a healthy rate of loss, and as fast as it gets.

If your son can't seem to stop gaining I think it is worth trying. Even if it isn't fully Keto, but ends up being low carb, it is still worth trying. It sounds to me like excess carbs may be packing on the extra pounds. I think Keto is also focused on nutrition. My view is that it tries to get the most nutrition per calorie eaten, and highly refined carbohydrates, like sugar and wheat flour have lots of calories, but very little nutrients (sugar has no nutrients at all).

So you can look at Keto at home as providing nutrition, and school food (pasta, bread, rice, some veggies, ...) as probably pushing the carbs up, but into the low carb range.

I remember being a kid at that age. It was jam sandwiches for lunch, chocolate bars from the school vending machine, and cans of soda, and my weight problems started. I was in a school the other day and noticed that the vending machines in my part of Canada, no long had those drinks, now it is water, juice, and similar. The chocolate bar machines were gone too.

Even if the overall result isn't Keto, lowering the carb level should be good.

My opinion.

James

Melissa, its tough being a Mom! I would tell you to lead by example! Get all the junk and sugar stuff out of the house and do your keto meals! Make him a great Breakfast to start his day ~~of course he will be tempted or even partake at lunch~~but your dinner will get him back on track. When he sees you loosing weight he will want to jump on board.

Lots of kids get bullied at school because of their weight~~sad but true! What does your son want to do? Ask him!

Melissa - your son is not going to buy into keto or low carb unless he decides to. I have two (grown) sons, and for me, the best way to get them to do something I thought was good for them was to provide another same age example who was successful. When they see someone they want to emulate (like another male same age who looks really good and does keto) it will be more likely that they will want to do it too. Not if mom says so. Just my opinion. Holly is giving you a really good option with Maria Emmerich.

Fasting - not fasting. I like to fast, but I like to eat when I'm hungry. So there's that. I get at least 18 in pretty much every day. Then my eating window closes directly after dinner. Even if that's 5 pm.

I tracked my food yesterday, and was in ranges appropriate for keto.

My burning question for the experts: If you hit your carb target (less than 20 g) and you hit your protein target (40 but less than 60 g) and everything else is fat, if you are not that hungry, and you don't get the fat target up there, (maybe close but not 80) does your body eat the rest of the fat off your body fat? Or are you screwing up your percentages?

BTW - finally got a 1.5 pound loss yesterday. Ketones were 2.4 this morning. I think the thought that I'm going to measure my ketones is keeping me from straying. Like having a spoonful of peanut butter or something.

You might want to message Maria Emmerich. Her sons are keto, I believe. She is really helpful and could maybe help you with information. Here is a link...there is a way to contact her at the bottom of the page.

Hello guys sorry been MIA just been reading about keto and trying to figure things out about it. I read the simply keto but didn't really teach me allot. But I am loving the book call the ketogenic bible its really good. Well I took my 11 year old son to my weight loss doctor cause he keeps gaining weight and can't seem to stop gaining he is now 5.3 at 184 and keeps going. And since I am feeling great on this keto and it's even improving my health conditions like my thyroid levels and my b12 level and i lost over 10 pounds just this month. I thought it would be great for my son. Well before I started him onit I wanted to ask his new weight loss doctor about him doing keto and he said it would help but would have a problem with him being in ketosis cause of the food they give him at school but also said it would help. But after that appointment we had a Nutritionist appointment and she said no don't do that diet that he needs to be a kid and just let him be a kid and just learn to eat healthy. Said she don't want him worrying about being keto all his life. She also said it is truly up to me though since I am his mother. But like I said the weight loss doctor was all for it even stated the history of how it helped kids that had seizures and epilepsy. My child has ADHD and ODD along with some angry problems anxiety so I really thought it would help him. He is also a picky eater. So since one doctor said yes do it and the other said no she just wants him to eat like a kid what should I do?

KAKONOLADY,
I've not fasted, except to eat no breakfast.

But I think I understand what you are saying. When one has eaten carbs as a primary fuel for a long time, the idea of not eating is outrageous. You'll get weak, you'll get hungry, you'll get dizzy ... etc.

But once you are in ketosis, and can dip into your own "reserves" with less hunger, no headaches, etc., it is like a miracle. Carbs have lost their grip on you. Doesn't it feel like that?

I made it through my first ever fast-- 38 hours (I had 3 pickle spears and 2 cups of chicken broth)...the first 24 hours is tough but after it is awesome.. the body feels light and I had more energy...I could have kept going but I need to work up to it considering tomorrow is my 4 week mark doing Keto WOE..

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.

FogFog. I've been "fasting" from dinner until lunch the next day. I've had to give in a few times, but ate something high in fat to help get me through until lunch. We go to the pool for exercise M-W-F, and that lasts from 11:30 until 1:00 pm. By the time we drive home (1/2 hour), I'm really hungry. So, the days I give in" are days that we go to the pool.

I'm not convinced the fasting is doing any good, but I'll keep doing it for awhile.

Thanks, Holly. Just making sure I'm under 20g carb and under 60 protein will sure be easier. My average carbs the past 2 weeks was 23, so I'm working harder at cutting. it.

This is how I felt after not losing for the past few days. LOL But like you said, it's about inches.

I track daily...
and plan dinner from what I eat for breakfast

Praying one day I wont be captive to this... and be healthy and free like I was as a child/teen

I do track and
part of it in my mind is portion distortion..even beyond WHAT I eat yet how much
and
that
foods in the US are not fresh, have many additives/carbs/sugars
and
lifestyle here is sedentary

It is for all of us, Wanda. I tracked my first 6 months, daily, on MFP. my macros were set, as yours, at 5%, 75%, and 20%.
I hired a coach for a month and due to a glitch was given a second coach, so i had 2 opinions(even working for the same site, they each have a little different take..some like fasting, some dont. some have you do TDEE, some dont...and ALL of them tailor it to the individual)
He had me forget the percentages and just go to under 20 g total carb, under 60 gm protein, and the rest fat...and all the fat i wanted. The second coach pretty much was the same on those figures. She likes fasting, he doesnt advocate it, although will use it if someone is REALLY stuck, but never for more than 24 hours.

I think the fact that you lost inches is the real telling point. Many of us dont lose on a weekly basis. I personally dont weigh often because i had a real, unhealthy addiction to my scale...but i sure know if my pants are loose or tight...and i know how many sizes i've dropped, even though my weight loss is slower the closer i get to goal.
I think you are doing really well. its all a learning experience...I CAN tell you both my coaches INSISTED i log every morsel, every day. i am not good about that...something i need to work on.
You have inspired me to log this week..i'll go now and do todays. thank you!

Does anyone track their % of fat, carbs, and protein on a weekly basis? My goal is to eat 5% carbs, 75% fat and 20% protein.

Using my daily totals on MyFitnessPalI, I did a spreadsheet to figure my weekly averages.

From that, I determined my weekly percentages of fat, carbs, and protein. It was an eye-opener for me. 7.62% carbs, 74.7% fat, 18.37% protein. Even though I may have looked at my daily totals and thought "well I went a little over on carbs, but that's ok", the average for the week tells me that I went over too many times.

So, this week I am making sure I stay at or below my daily goal. I didn't lose anything this past week. That said, I did lose inches around my waist. I knew I would because my pants fasten without me sucking it in!

This Keto thing is a work in progress for me. If I wasn't keeping track on MyFitnessPal, I'm sure I wouldn't be doing it properly.

FWIW

Hcg is a hormone from women during pregnancy... it is different from HGH (which maybe what you are referring to??)

KAREN..lol!!! i think my secret is..i rarely eat them!!!! i might pop ONE...let it melt in my mouth..and due to them being totally natural and homemade, they are hard. so it takes a LONG time. they are VERY dark chocolate, so a bit bitter...anyone not fully keto would probably hate them!!

I'm sorry if i went off track with my customer and her drops..as i said..i personally think they are probably sugar water...nothing else. The people that sell it are "food experts" (notice they cant use the word dietitian) and sell the drops..and a short "counselling" session. they have a food list they can eat all they want off...i saw it and its mostly keto foods but for a few. my friend lost 80 pounds then stalled..and hasnt lost a thing since. shes fine with it..she would like to lose another 50 but is saying something about a setpoint and her body knows..well my body thought my setpoint was 328 and i didnt agree..lol. sorry dont buy into the setpoint thing! anyhow..my total point was...your mind has a LOT to do with your success, like it or not. Think positive. Keto works..it heals you from the inside out..and weight loss is a happy side effect. Do it for the health. and its forever, not just to lose weight then go off..or you will be right back where you started!

I was guessing that perhaps the client buying a keto dessert from Holly who claims she uses "drops" may be using Hcg...

Not advocating for it.. just guessing

I dont know about that either! HGC rises as one exercises! I hope no one is using that hormone!

Sorry yes I was thinking about HGH Human Growth Hormone that your body can make~~I would not take it in a supplement!

I'm missing something ... how did HCG enter the conversation?

I understand this is the human growth hormone, and is present in higher quantity in a pregnant woman, part of that is to speed up grown of the fetus. I could see that this might "rev up" metabolism and be seen as a way to loose weight.

But clearly this is very dubious (hence buying liquid drops with it from India), and unnatural (except during pregnancy). In Canada it is only for sale with a prescription, but not in the US.

All in all HCG has nothing to do with Keto, except that some folks eating Keto want to loose weight. Fen-Phen was also a weight loss drug, and was legal for a while, also not Keto.

no its not HCG...its probably sugar water. seriously. I dont think its paleo either...she can have dairy and paleo isnt dairy. its like..keto with an apple..LOL! and she TOTALLY believes that these drops are the entire reason she is losing. maybe its a mind thing? i dont know..i just know that shes lost, she wont eat ANYTHING without having drops first..like..a piece of this keto chocolate. trust me, theres less than a carb in one candy. more like..a carb in 5 candies. I make them myself from the ground up. they are time consuming and expensive...and yeah they are good but not good enough for me to take the time if i'm not getting paid to do it. i can have one..suck on it till it melts, and i'm done. but the thing is, like i said...high fat but a fifth of a carb per..and she wont put one in her mouth with this drops thing.
i think the mind is powerful. I was a nurse. i've seen strange things..and the power of our minds is incredible. so maybe its just that? i dont know.
i'd stay away from the fast metabolism thing. i tried all that stuff. never worked for me..keto is the first and ONLY thing thats ever worked for me!

Id have a hard time having sweets/cake etc in the house too...and having one chocolate today would be one again tom for me...

I have a friend who went on the "fast metabolism diet" after hearing me talk about KETO and how I am sticking with it and had lost 15
She has lost Very quickly as has her husband on that plan
Went online to research it and it is a mess... a lot of restricted CICO. She only had to lose 15 so I suspect she will be able to maintain it.

I am going to guess that the client you have is doing Hcg + paleo ish ... Hcg can be taken as drops orally or via injections. If you get the Hcg in the Us through a diet center its super expensive. If you buy it from India its much cheaper. An Hcg diet is a CICO thing and calls for almost no fats... you do lose fast... however to eventually maintain you are at a super low CICO threshold. Not sure of the long term effects on heart/bones/hair etc.

For Easter I am making Osso Bucco. IF we have anything sweet for a dessert-- I will pick up something super small (like cheesecake) or just get some nice honey to have with cheeses--which is probably a better choice anyway (though I am keto and sweetener free)

One thing about KETO is that brunch buffets no longer have an appeal. So much I wont eat anymore... and with macros being what they are... having a big buffet doesn't work $-wise.

NSV my fitbit and is on the smallest setting -- thats 3 holes smaller than Christmas.

When it's rolling and not registering I will reward myself with a new band! emoticon

oh yay James!! i love waffles!!

spent the early morning making keto chocolates for an easter order. i know better than to taste. i cant do one unless one is all there is...lol. the person ordering is on some other plan..much like keto except she gets some carbs..apples of all things. and takes drops of who knows what before she eats. shes dropped almost as much as i have...but spent thousands doing it. shes now on "maintenance" so we will see how that goes.

I found my waffle maker! I'd lost it for many months. It was put away above the fridge along with other random things.

Waffles for breakfast, not pancakes! Its a different shape! I'll weigh what I eat for breakfast and let you know the nutrition later. I'll even weight the cream in my coffee.

JAISON60 (Kathleen),
I also weigh myself first thing in the morning, with no clothes. I drink my coffee after that. I have a real scale! Though MOPARMEMAW's scale has its advantages.

I do it at that time because of two things, the number is lower, and it is more consistent. Clothes have somewhat random weight, and so does food and drink in the middle of digestion.

I weigh every Morning naked! I am probably addicted too! I think the good thing is that when it does go up, I am able to adjust my eating quickly and make it move in the right direction again. I think waiting a whole week without seeing any progress would not be a good thing for me!
