WANDERINGCUPPA,
the thing about food, is that it isn't all about calories. There are so many facets to it, protein, minerals, vitamins, who know what other things we don't even understand yet.

But also there are allergies to foods, and everyone is different there. I can eat almonds with no problem, yet others can have an allergy to them. So if you are having a reaction to something you typically eat, and you don't know it, it really takes some hunting and clean eating to figure it out.

Plus I think that for mild (not life threatening) long term problems, you don't stop eating the food and your issues clear up the next day, no, it can be weeks or months, so it is harder to make the connection. So, I wish you the best in your search, and your recovery.

Glad things are improving Cuppa!

Dr. Jason Fung: "Holy consensus, Batman. With so many 'experts' from Michelle Obama to the USDA to virtually all of the medical professionals (including doctors and dieticians) agreeing that 'Eat Less, Move More' is the way to go, you might think that it is 100% unquestionably true. But here's a queer thought... if we all agree that we know the cure for obesity, and we've spent billions on educations and programs - why are we getting fatter? In other words, why does this 'cure' suck so bad?

OK, good news this morning upon waking: my hands seem to be clearing up...

I've been putting a combination treatment of organic shea butter (anti-inflammatory + other healing properties) plus some allergy cream plus a thick coating of Eucerin on and keeping my hands in cotton gloves....and it seems to be working.

The other thing I've done is cut out cheese (sniff, sniff, this makes me sad) and actually come to think of it, I haven't had eggs in while either....YIKES.

Going to experiment with putting eggs back on the menu in earnest and see what happens; then, maybe some bits of cheese back in...

I honestly think now that it's food "allergy" related....or food sensitivity. While it would really be a drag if I have to give up eggs and cheese permanently, if it means clear hands....

emoticon Cuppa,
another possibility is that fat cells hold toxins, and when you start to loose weight some of those toxins are released.

This means two things. First it means that one of the reasons it would be hard to loose weight in the first place is that your body is doing things to avoid loosing the body fat and facing the released toxins.

My wife experienced rashes on her upper chest when she started low carb.

Ramona,
be positive.

"Holly, maybe next time you should search a little further than wikipedia before you comment ..."

This is clearly more than about the facts, because you could have written the same thing in a positive tone. Your wording is negative and attempts to be controlling:
"maybe next time you should" and "before you comment".

Ramona -- thanks for the information! And thanks for the tip about ACV...I had read that somewhere once before and your note reminded me.

I've been using shea butter, coconut oil and allergy med cream help.

Then it has changed since the very highly and respected well known doctor told me that it ONLY happens with Lyme or syphilis. No need to be nasty...I have no problem admitting if i'm incorrect.

Not trying to correct, but i believe the herxheimer reaction is only seen with syphilis and Lyme...as a response to the spirochetes being killed off by the antibiotics. This coming from the NYS head of epidemiology---not from me. So unless you are taking antibiotics and have either of those things, I doubt thats what the rash is from.

Heres another link on it that backs that up...

Hey Gang -- I am about 1 month into Keto (using to get diabetes under control) and I've got a terrible rash going on my hands. Now to be fair, I have had "something" going on for a couple of years on my hands -- I believe it to be a type of eczema called dishydrotic....it comes and goes actually.

However -- it got exponentially worse after I started STRICT LCHF...I have heard mention of a "keto rash" while your body detoxes, but any info I can find is about rashes on other parts of the body, not necessarily on hands.

At first I thought I might be reacting (never before have though) to lots of eggs; then I thought it might be higher intake of cheese. I've laid off egges, no real improvement. Next I'll be cutting down on cheese intake to see what happens. If I can get it cleared up, I will reintroduce eggs and see what happens from there.

Sorry for jumping in with such a long post, but I just wanted to know if anyone else experienced the "keto rash"?
