i like them IN stuff...like..well like that!!! lol!! i use a magic bullet. when i make eggs, and i only like them scrambled or hard boiled...but when i make scrambled eggs i put 2 eggs in the bullet, pour in a tablespoon or so of HWC, and an ounce of cream cheese. it makes yummy eggs!! when i make mousse, its HWC, cream cheese, and cocoa powder or flavoring.
i do sauces with cream cheese. i just dont like it alone. and brie..nope. tastes like dirty socks smell to me..lol.
boursin...is just cream cheese with stuff in it..herbs and all. again, mixed in stuff its fine..just not plain.
i am going to try your recipe..if i can ever start my car again and get to the store for stuff!

I saw that Holly doesn't like the soft cheeses but an ounce if cream cheese mixed in at the end is quite tasty too.

A recent favorite meal of mine is bacon (I bake a package or more at a time and put it in the fridge) with guacamole or avocado. I get the Wholly Guac mini packs (not 100 cal packs) for 120 cal and I think 2 total carbs (1 net) and 12 g fat. I either spread the guac on the bacon or just dip away. Most bacon I get has equal fat to protein or just a touch more fat. Pair that with fat from avocado and it tastes great. I also don't blot the bacon fat from the bacon. I just set it on a paper towel to cool. Leave all that good fat there!

i'm old as dirt too..but my hair was falling out, i felt tired, and i hired a coach..who looked at my menus and said NOONE..he doesnt care WHO they are, should be eating much below 2000 calories a day, unless they are 4'8 and do NOTHING, and then it should be 15-1800. as soon as i did what he said my hair stopped falling out and i felt better. all my life i've eaten 900-1100 cals..with zero loss, sometimes gains..and his reaction was..well of course..when you starve yourself your body will do ANYTHING to keep going....and if it thinks its starving, you will pay in energy, hair, feeling tired, etc.
i struggle with protein too. my coach gave me a shake recipe that is low in protein and high in fat..2-3 eggs..if you are too high in protein do one whole egg and one yolk, or 2 whole and one yolk. the protein is in the whites..most of it anyhow..so toss them..lol. ok so add in 1/4 cup of heavy cream, an ounce of cream cheese or a tablespoon of coconut or mct oil, any flavoring you want, and if you want some stevia thats fine too. whiz it up good (i use a magic bullet) and then add a couple ice cubes and whiz that. tastes like the best eggnog ever!!! really really good...for not hardly any carbs, and very little protein.
i smoke pork belly quite often for evening meals...its mostly fat, tastes great, and fills you up.
hope they help a little!

Well I'm old as dirt and sedentary so I don't need a lot of calories. I struggling to keep my protein and fat down without eating too many carbs. I know most days I eat too much protein most days. On the upside I am rarely hungry except just before eating, often forgetting lunch or just having a piece of cheese to get enough calories. Whenever I try upping my carbs I end up having too much. Ideas would be helpful. I keep looking at Keto-blogs for recipes. Years before when I was eat this lifestyle I had no problem keeping the carbs low but then again I didn't worry about protein or fat either.

1200 a day is starvation!!! take a look at this TDEE calculator. You do NOT want to eat to a deficit on Keto. I know it goes against everything you've ever been told but PLEASE trust me..I speak from experience. my hair fell out..i wasnt feeling good..and it was because i was starving my body!! tdeecalculator.net

this is the MINIMUM number of calories you need just to exist based on age, and height. done worry about the other figure. you really need to eat this many cals just to keep your body healthy!!

It's funny I haven't tried to eat that few calories but somehow that's been a problem. I want to eat at least 1200 calories a day. I guess I need more fat. maybe a couple bulletproof coffees a day or some kind of fat bombs.

FRC13177,
its all about eating what your body really needs. Your body does not need carbs, it can get its energy from other places.

Its not that I eat zero carbs, I eat some, but only as a way to eat what my body really needs. I need vitamin C, but how do get that in real food without a few carbs coming in.

So look at Keto as cutting all "cheap" calories.

I agree with Holly, don't go too low on the calories, and don't worry about the fat, over time you'll find your groove, and chances are you fat intake will go up.

James

your calories are awfully low...but the rest looks great!! i'd add more fat to get the cals up...at 1300 you are in starvation mode.

I'm using Sparkpeople to track my carbs, fat and yes calories.

CALORIES CARBS FAT PROTEIN FIBER
Totals: 1347 5 106 57 1

This was yesterday results. I think I have a handle on it and DH loved the stroganoff-like ground beef and cream cheese mixture and broccoli along with mashed potatoes for my family(none for me) we had for supper. Eating a high fat, moderate protein is an intriguing idea

I like cauliflower. My fav "alternative" with it lately is loaded mashed cauliflower. cheese and bacon and sour cream. It's a yummy way to eat cauliflower (and don't try to convince yourself it will be like potato).

I agree, I have to be in the mind set that it is a vegetable dish, not potatos that I am making. I've had a similar experience with alternative pizza crust. I have to think about it in terms of what it is, not what it's replacing.

If you try the cauliflower again be sure to squeeze out a lot of the water that way it can soak up the flavors that you are adding to it, I know that helped me a lot.

That sounds great!!! Glad to know someone else feels like me. I cant even stand mashed cauliflower now..i've tried it several times in different ways and its just not right...so i just dont eat it. I really wanted something like that to fill that potato void, but better to have none than to try and sub it with something that to me is so nasty!! LOL!

I feel the same way about many keto-friendly "alternative" recipes. I love mashed cauliflower, but if I'm expecting mashed potatoes, it's a major letdown. Same with spaghetti squash and zucchini and things like that - if I'm prepared for them to taste like they actually do, I do very well. But there's just no substitute for pasta or potatoes, sadly. That being said, I made a fantastic casserole this past weekend - ground beef, broccoli, mushrooms, and spaghetti squash in a creamy garlic parmesan sauce :) Turned out great.

i love pasta. i'd rather have it than most anything else..but it hasnt crossed my lips in 10 months. first week on keto i did a zucchini lasagna...and it was ok. i dont do it often, the tomatos have too many carbs for me to justify,,,but i do like it..i just cant tell myself it tastes like real...same thing with cauliflower..if i hadnt told myself it was supposed to take like mashed potatos, maybe i would have liked it..but it doesnt..it tastes like mashed cauliflower..lol. i need to try it again to see if i can convince myself its ok....

This past week I made a keto lasagna for the first time.
OMG was it ever so good.

I bought the light green and freckled zucchini that is shorter and fatter. I sprinkled them
with salt after slicing to pull some water out, patted with paper towels, then 10 min. in 350 degree oven to help even more. Patted with the paper towels again.
It was a huge lasagna, so after eating our meal, I froze
the rest into portions, saving back a couple portions to eat in a day or two.
Well,
Next day, DH requested an omelet made with the lasagna. Just spooned it onto the eggs before flipping omelet onto itself.
Wow! It was absolutely fantastic. I never would have dreamed of trying this.

So, this is for those who may be tired of the same kind of breakfast everyday.
Do count your macros as you put it together, your carbs, your calories, and portion it out.
A nice savory breakfast.

I was hesitant to make it with zucchini replacing noodles. Now, I actually would rather
have it this way as I love the texture and taste so much more.

i'm pretty sure you have to plan your own. make combination meals that you have often and name them, like "egg and bacon breakfast" or something so you can add them quickly.

Welcome MMMONET.

I'm a leader of this team. While I know plenty about Keto, I really know almost nothing about the spark people nutrition tracker. Sorry, maybe someone else can assist you.

What does that planner have you way over on?

Hi! I've had good success with keto and great success almost ten years ago with SP. I came back to SP today to see about blending the two.
I changed my goal macros (50 carb, 69 protein, 87 fat) but the suggested meal plan has me WAY over. Is there a trick I'm missing?
Or do I not get to be lazy 😂 and have to still plan my own?
Thanks for any answers emoticon
