I agree NIGHTSKYSTAR,
the chicken products are so close to Keto, and then they put breading on the outside, and the advertising on the page about leaving the breading behind is just plain FALSE.

James i love your explanations!!
i dont, however, love companies that market their food as one thing when its another.
but. with my parmesan breading..i could do my own kiev, or broccoli and cheese, or even cordon bleu, and make it totally keto!

yup, every picture is of a breaded "chicken brick". I wonder how why the web page incorrectly says

"Seasoned Stuffed Chicken Breasts leave the breading behind and let the flavor shine through."

The old latin phrase: Caveat emptor

means "let the buyer beware", so of course sellers trying to rip you off must have been a problem for thousands of years now if in Roman times they came up with this phrase.

But I think in this case it is "eater beware" translated by google into latin:
"Cave comedenti"

Amazingly though my latin is pretty weak, I recognize a "caveat" as an english word that is typically a warning in contract, and the second word "comedenti" has "denti" in it, English, dentures, dental, and yup, you need teeth to eat.

i always loved the Barber chicken breasts..they have all different stuffings and are really reasonably priced...and were a great meal for me..BUT...i havent ever seen one that isnt breaded..so unless there is one? they wouldnt be keto..

ok i just went to their site. one serving has anywhere from 12-16 gm carb..they all have sugar and wheat. such a shame..i really did like them.

Kathleen can you find any with no breading or sugar?

IWANTTO - We don't have the same product that James is showing in the US but if you look in the frozen foods you will find "Stuffed chicken breast" by a company called BARBER. It looks like what James is showing and they taste very good. Frozen just put into oven.

there is a company in Canada called M&M Frozen Foods. They sell a lot of frozen products, among them are various stuffed chicken breasts, like this one "Bistro Chicken Swiss" which has a ham and cheese filling.

The one pictured on the left has 2 grams of carbs. The others on the page are breaded and have about 20 grams of carbs, and I don't eat those. Prices are in Canadian dollars so the $4.99 (Canadian) is about $3.75 (US dollars). The middle item on that page seems to have a typo in the price.

Now for Canadians, you need to be a "member" to shop there. Membership is free, you just need to register. I got a membership card, lost it, but now I just give them my phone number when I shop there.

I hope that other companies make similar products, if they do it would be in the frozen food section. Read nutrition information.

2 egg omelette
20 gram slice of cheese broken and melted in
3 cherry tomatoes cut in chunks and added in

About 2 grams of carbs in that omelette.

3 cups of coffee with cream across the morning

Lunch:
Frozen chicken "brick" stuffed with ham and cheese, package said 2 grams of carbs
Diet cola

Supper:
Mixed greens
cooked ground hamburger on the salad
ranch dressing
peppermint tea with a little bit of stevia

I have had some chicken lately....after I cook it in the oven, I've been heating in up in a frying pan with some butter. It's OK, but I'm thinking gravy might be better?

here is a picture of the nutrition label of the "FRANCO-AMERICAN Mushroom Gravy"


60 mL, so lets say 60 grams (60 mL of water weighs 60 grams) has 3 grams of carbs, so this means 5% of the weight of this gravy is carbs. Makes my 6% cutoff.

You just open the can and use as-is. Now the whole can is 10 fluid ounces or 284 mL, so the whole can has about 14 grams of carbs. I probably put about 1/3 of the can on my meat, so 5 grams of carbs roughly.

Before you get all excited about the carbs in the gravy, the gravy was from a can and had 3 grams of carbs per 60 grams, so about 5 grams per 100. Low.

that is an interesting point on quantities of food, I'll give you my opinion on this.

I think that when eating carbs in large quantities, your blood sugar goes up, then down, you get hungry, you eat more carbs more often. In an effort to stave off hunger ones intuition is to eat more. Surely if you eat more, then you won't get hungry as soon. I guess to a degree that must be true.

So now you get used to eating a larger quantity of food. You switch to Keto, and if you keep up the quantity of food it is probably denser in calories. Fat has the most calories per gram. If you want to loose weight you don't want to eat too much. I had a bunless burger for lunch yesterday, and a diet drink. No fries (of course), and nothing else. Not a large volume of food, but it was enough to keep me feeling energetic enough until supper time.

Pre-Keto lunch might have been that same burger, but with the bun, and large fries, and an ice-cream, and a sugar filled drink, not a diet drink.

I personally find that I don't need a lot of food at any meal to feel satisfied, or to bring my energy level to normal.

FYI - very proud of myself. We were at a Redwing baseball game and I did not eat anything at the stadium - not even a bite of anything.

Visiting family this weekend and sticking to keto has been a little challenging. I did manage to keep my carbs under 20 g!

Meals for 9/1:
B - 2 eggs, provolone cheese and bacon omelet with coffee, stevia, creamer

L - Cobb salad with diet coke

D - Smoked ribs (I steered clear of the mac & cheese, baked beans, chips and cherry cobbler)

S - Parmesan crisp with 1/4 Lilly's chocolate (sweet & salty)


Focusing on progress, not perfection.

5% Goal of 12 pound loss - Achieved Sept 19, 2018

I WANT Excellent day of keto eating!!

Mine was so-so.

Breakfast - coffee and coffee with 2 tbsp. hwc

Lunch - subway salad with roast beef and 1.5 oz blue cheese dressing

Dinner - 1/2 ribeye steak, 5 stalks asparagus in butter

Prior to dinner - wine tasting - probably 2 glasses total, some cheese and charcuterie

2 scrambled eggs mixed with 1/2 diced jalapeno pepper fried in butter.
2 strips bacon.
1/2 avocado
coffee with Heavy whipping cream

Lunch 12;30
1 can of Tuna mixed with celery & 4 TBSP mayonnaise (dash of onion powder) served on lettuce plate
Cucumber slices.
Seltzer

Mid day 3:00
2 cups chicken broth (bullion)

4:00
Dill Pickle
seltzer

Dinner- 6:30
Roast beef 3 oz
Spinach with butter
cucumber slices with full fat ranch dressing
seltzer

Dessert 7:00PM
Sugar free jello with whipped cream

NO EATING AFTER 7:00PM only liquids
Seltzer/broth

Yesterday was a stupid day for me. I'm so busy, my A/C has been out for a WEEK (and I live in Texas and it's been in the high 90s) and we have company from out of town. Sigh.

Breakfast - coffee, coffee with cream.



Lunch - one slice bacon with almond butter (what is this?) and a salad with blue cheese dressing and swiss cheese.

Dinner - crispy chicken thigh with spinach sautéed in bacon grease. One glass of wine. I also ate a second skin my husband gave me. Yumm.

Did not track macros, have no idea where this food falls on the spectrum, but it's done and I'll track today if I can. This is life, keto is awesome, and my ketones were great this morning!!

extra meal:
romaine;
1/4 cup shredded mild cheddar
3 tbls mighty caesar salad dressing
1/2 perdue chicken
decaff coffee with some heavy cream

Lunch:
solid white albacore in vegg oil
3 tbls mayo
1/4 cup onions
good thin corn (this was a big mistake)

Dinner:
3 scrambled eggs with heavy cream and cooked in butter
about 6 or 7 slices of bacon

My overall percentages seem to match up but in reality I am eating too much protein and carbs too.

Thanks KDGIRL and James! Yesterday was a good day and I stuck to my plan.

KDGIRL - The heavy whipping cream (HWC) that I use comes up as 0.84 g carbs per 2 Tbsp.

August 29
B - Low carb egg bake browned in butter with 2 strawberries and 5 blueberries, coffee with stevia and HWC

L- Leftover chicken parm (4 oz bscb, topped with low carb marinara, mozzerell and parmesean) with zucchini noodles cooked in butter and garlic salt. YUM!

D- Plan is for shrimp with cauliflower pilaf and asparagus

Focusing on progress, not perfection.
